As you can see in 2013 already anet admitted “skill lag” problem is real and they were looking for ways to “relieve some of the load from the game server while there are large concentrations of players.” Why would they do that if in your opinion the problem is mainly client related?
Another thing is gpu and cpu have nothing to do with the skill lag as you claim in your 2 posts in this topic. You can run the game with some diagnostic tool turned on and you will see that there is no heavy workload for neither of them. If the problem would be gpu you would notice frame drops, and there are no frame drops. If it would be cpu’s fault you would be affected by freezes, and that doesn’t happen.
I think people don’t actually understand what the skill lag is. Last time I entered wvw some guy was claiming he is not affected by skill lag on his mac, because it is such a great computer. Hardware doesn’t mean anything in this case. You can have high end computer setup and play on lowest settings, you will still be affected by skill lag.
Skill lag, sometimes referred to as skill activation delay, affects only usage of the skills. It doesn’t cause freezes, it doesn’t cause frame drop. It simply doesn’t allow you to use skills, and skills activate with (sometimes few seconds) delay.
Skill lag is mostly noticeable when 3 zergs clash together, but that is not necessary, because the skill lag is mostly caused by conditions. Tracking every stack of condition separately is a huge load for the server. When you are affected by skill lag you don’t suffer from freezes and frame drops, everyone moves normally, you just cannot use your skills. I guess movement/player position is processed by different server than the skills execution/condis tracking? Or maybe some stuff has higher priority than the skill execution?
I don’t know how their backend looks like but your hardware configuration and isp have nothing to do with the skill lag. If your entire game freezes and you lose fps or see people disappearing and reappearing in different place meanwhile you move normally then yes, in that case you suffer because of your hardware or isp, but that has nothing to do with the skill lag.
Skill lag is not an input lag.
I don’t know how to explain in otherwise.
You can check it easily doing the following:
1. When affected by skill lag use a targeting teleport skill (like for example blink).
2. Cast it as far as you can running opposite direction (go out of range).
3. After few seconds you will notice the “out of range” message.
4. You aren’t affected by freezes, you aren’t affected by fps drops, yet your skill is executed with a delay.
5. Illuminati confirmed.
This means server receives your input, and registers it but executes it with a delay. Now you might be wondering why it happens that way. I am not entirely sure, but I guess the same server processes conditions. A lot of conditions means less resources to serve skill execution and it starts to queue them. So when you use a skill what happens is it gets thrown in the queue and you have to wait for its execution.
This in my opinion should be implemented asap.
I see no point in current system, especially after the recent changes. People started joining wvw being low level, having pve build or wearing zerker items and it simply doesn’t work. Of course it also breaks competitiveness, simply because wvw is no longer competitive at this point (oh wait, you called it “competitive feature pack”? hahahahaha).
On Gandara wvw is dead now, people switched to GvG. Newbies run around in EBG getting mercilessly wiped and nothing much happens. Basically only the realm’s border is playable.
If something won’t change fast wvw will soon be dead again and this time it might die for good.
I think that switching the gearing method for wvw from physically acquiring the gear to same method as in spvp will solve few issues:
1. People will start gearing properly as they no longer will need to waste time on gearing up.
2. You won’t need 2 different sets of around 15 items with different stats just to play wvw if you are pve player (and vice versa).
3. People with power/condi build might switch to sup without relogging to another character.
Either this or unlink the servers now. I don’t see many options here.
inb4.: yes, I know you can be good at wvw, pve and spvp all at the same time, but apparently not everyone is.
If there is any reason needed to be given here you are: it’s kittening kittened I have to look for a party to get new skill for my character.
Read: I am not only forced to do meaningless side missions HP are, but I am forced to do them in a team. It might be fun on first 2 characters, but after that it is simply annoying as hell. Especially when HP missions are boring af.
Resuming: HPs are really stupid mechanic. There are a lot of stupid mechanics in this game, but HP beats most of them. Please consider making them less of a pain or at least add some rewards for doing them.

Now let me ask you something: you join a squad lead by some guy, and when you get kicked since you do not meet his requirements you say it is messed up. Why? Do you consider someone is obliged to invite you to party and keep playing with you even if they don’t like you?
Get yourself a tag, learn wvw tactics and strategies, and lead your own squad. Now you decide who gets kicked and who stays in.
There are few useless professions zerg-wise. If you are it and squad is full you will probably kiss it goodbye as the first one. Next, comm will probably check your food and utility buffs. You have none or they are crap: bye bye!
Zerg is about mutual buffing and utility. If you are thief or ranger you are the first one to get kicked.
inb4. uuuu, but we thieves give you stun venom for entire party.

Queues got considerably smaller comparing to 1st day of wvw changes, but it seems wvw is dead, nothing is happening there.
Also being on UW and currently paired with Gandara I see we are 3rd in our bracket at the moment, almost 2k points behind 1st realm, and was wondering if wvw caused inactive players, who are extremely good, to come back to wvwvw or simply players who played wvw on this realm are taking a break?
One chance I had to enter since the changes were introduced and it was a total disaster. Is it like that all the time since patch or I have to join during particular hours?
There already is an item that does that and it is called Potion of WvW Rewards.
If you want to rank up faster waste your irl money on xp boosters, that’s what anet wants you to do. If you don’t want to waste your money just keep on playing wvw and rank up as everyone else.
It doesn’t really matter what your rank is as long as you know what to do. And if you want it for rewards, well, tough luck.

I think this is really a bad idea as such number will reflect nothing.
Also finishing people off in zerg vs zerg encounters is a horrible waste of time and resources and most probably will get you killed or separated from the rest of your group.
If you are a roamer this would make more sense, but still is pointless. wvw is a team effort and in my opinion statistics regarding it should be treated as such.
Besides many people will have horrible kills per death ratio due to their role in wvw and trying to improve it they will start doing stupid things during zerg fights just to get the finishing kill.
Honestly Underwater is so abandoned at this point, this is just one more checkbox in an endless list of “is underwater off the development table” list.
Thank god for that. In pvp underwater battle is horribly inbalanced and in pve it is horribly annoying.

It made sense back then…but really all they have to do now is unlink servers…they still have them technically separated.
Actually this is a simple solution I haven’t thought of.
Go go anet, unlink the servers. If pop drops again link them again, problem solved, (almost) everyone is happy.

It sounds like you want to tell me, that the changes to wvw have been introduced to discourage regular wvw players from playing that game mode.
Also your estimations are pure guess. After 2-4 weeks the queues can still be 100+. What then? (Please don’t answer, it’s a rhetorical question)
I was hoping to spark a discussion about changes that could be introduced to somewhat improve the queue waiting. For example priority queue for rank (higher rank, faster queue) or at least priority for commanders. Ability to switch between characters while inside wvw and temp wvw bans for afking.
Worst case scenario Obsidian Sanctum could be made into something more entertaining.
100+ queue to enter any border (160+ on ebg). Is this a new reality we should get used to?
Cleansing Ire requires the burst skills to hit to cleanse if I remember correctly.
Ok, this makes sense, because as per tooltip it removes conditions for every bar spent when you hit a target.
The cleanse on-swap sigils may also require a nearby target. I’ve never run any, however.
With weapons swapping I was referring to warriors trait Brawler’s Recovery (Remove conditions when you swap weapons. Combat only.). No idea how that should work, in the end I changed it already to Destruction of the Empowered. Brawler’s Recovery seems to be crap.
If you are not regenerating health, you are in combat.
That’s the problem. Sometimes I get conditions, I disengage, I swap weapons and nothing happens even though my hp doesn’t regenerate, I have dots on me and there is a horde of enemies below. Using burst also doesn’t do a thing, but ok, I missed the part when it says you have to hit someone.
I often am in combat, but it doesn’t count as being in combat.
When I disengage as a warrior and still have dots on me I cannot clear them with weapon swap or using burst skills (which normally clears conditions in combat because of traits). Having dots on me doesn’t count as being in combat? Because I am pretty sure my hp doesn’t regen.
On other occasions I am locked in combat, with no conditions on me, not fighting anyone, just standing on the wall and checking how situation develops, and my hp regen is frozen. So am I in combat or am I not?
What conditions do I have to meet to be considered as “in combat”? Because receiving damage only is not all, there has to be something else.

It is more that meta evolved past it(no backline in any of the guilds). You can still play it in pugs.

Playing warrior right now and wanted to switch to something ranged. I’ve seen people running hammer on revenant. Looking at videos on youtube though it seems people stopped playing it since around 6 months ago? I assume it was ridiculously op and got some nerfs, but is it still viable?
I guess you meant Arc Divider not Arcing Slice. In my opinion the range is ok (450) because of two reasons:
1. It is an elite spec.
2. It is super easy to counter, especially now.Also dodge moves you 300 units over 0,75 s. Casting time on Arc Divider right now is also 0,75 s., it’s seriously hard to get hit by it right now if you arent’t cced.
Range on Arcing Slice is 150, if Arc Divider would have the same range the entire elite spec for warrior would be useless as at the moment warrior without a gs is simply a bad warrior. (inb4. i play axe/whatever and i am gosu)

I wonder why this is so? I guess it is because everyone who sees you turn on berserker mode either can dodge/counter all your skills or runs away so you don’t get any adrenaline.

Basically what it gives you is vulnerability stacking and an insane damage with decapitate > tremor > crushing blow > cyclone axe > decapitate > switch to rifle > gun flame.
This gives you 19 stacks of vulnerability on your enemy stacked during 2 second stun of tremor, so basically your next decapitate hits for almost 20% more. One can start with rifle and add another 5 stacks for a total of 24, but vulnerability from rifle has only 8 seconds duration.
Rifle itself gives good mobility and allows to easily finish off targets that run away or to harass people at distance. Unfortunately the overall damage on rifle is still horrible and gun flame is virtually the only damaging skill here, but rifle butt and brutal shot might be essential when some room to breathe is needed + even with low damage it allows shooting and running which is good when chasing someone or running away.
Downsides:
a) Condi transfer/condi cleanse
b) Stab/break stun
c) Blocking – (solved with signet)
d) Limited survivability
I am also thinking about sigils. Intelligence imho is a must have on rifle for swap and 100% chance to crit gun flame, without it I wouldn’t even use the rifle because of the rng triggering non-crit hit when you most need it.
On axe/mace I go force + strength for additional might stacking. I was also thinking about sigil of peril, it would allow to solo maintain 25 stacks of vulnerability, but vuln on its own is not that great.
If someone is out of stab this can perma stunlock him adding headbutt to the mix.
What do you think? Any feedback appreciated.

Today I had pretty much fun playing wvw until enemy zerg came to sm, then another one. As you can figure out lag was unbearable, I couldn’t even switch my weapons not to mention using any skills.
At the moment I would say the skill lag is determining factor in victory when you play wvw. Without lag we wiped few waves of enemy zergs, including one wave with around 15 golems (some of them omega) and we didn’t even have a comm! Once the lag kicked in our effectiveness started to slowly go down and in the end I don’t know if we finally defended sm or not, I just couldn’t take it anymore and left.
It makes me wonder, will wvw ever be fixed? Why does anet ignore the problem? They promised in 2013 the fix is on its way.

Wvw is basically about dealing with the skill lag. You don’t fight against enemy players, you fight against anet’s servers.

I think that’s what anet is hoping for. They hope people will star migrating to crowded servers thus buying gems. I see no other reason.
Today I had two rangers duo queue and we lost the match anyways. Entire game they kept going far where an enemy engi was pwning them 1v2, meanwhile the rest of us was fighting 3v4.
It all depends on skills of your teammates/enemies and those are basically totally random and are not related to rating whatsoever. Since I started checking people’s rating I am so surprised with performance from different tiers and I am surprised how some people got that far.
Or maybe they play like idiots to lower the rating? No idea, but already met a guy who claimed that’s what he was doing. I don’t know if he was serious though.
This is stupid. Why would you ban/temp ban people for doing that? They legitimately use the game mechanics.
Now I see how some people could have problem with that, someone profits doing nothing while others do the work (sounds familiar btw?), but still I see no point in banning people for that.
You allow to do something and then you ban for it, this are some national socialist techniques of handling the issues. If this is not allowed change the game and create a design where this is not possible. I fail to see why you should be punished for something that is allowed by the game design. Of course anet is the one to decide whether doing something within the game is baneable or not, this is not healthy for the game.

I would say the one and only profession that has potential of carrying the entire game solo is thief thanks to his mobility. You totally ignore any teamfights and just jump around stealing capture points, but even if you are godlike this still doesn’t assure win.
Rest of the professions cannot carry solo as even if you are gosu you won’t survive on your own if the enemy team has any brain and uses it.
In case where you play against a bunch of total newbies who have no idea about the game, its mechanics and pvp it doesn’t matter, you can carry with anything.
It’s just too bad that people think you have to have signet of might to make it work. You don’t. And if you say you do, you need to practice.
Playing without signet of might is simply crippling yourself.
Rifle is about applying pressure and if you apply that pressure to let’s say a m/sh+gs warrior he will eventually pop endure pain (either from passive or active), that 4s of dps loss for you, and 4s of passive regeneration for him.
Then he will block you with shield, that’s another 3 seconds. Add to that regen from adrenal health.
If you run rifle without signet of might this basically resets the encounter. Unblockable attacks are one of the best tools that warrior has and it is really short cooldown additionaly boosting your power when you don’t need it. In my opinion in pvp every single warrior build benefits from unblockable attacks, as I said you can play without it but you simply cripple your performance. Not to mention it is a bane of dragonhunters and mesmers.
Let’s see:
1. Build bypasses “Revealed” debuff applied on attack due to using aoe traps.
2. Build revolves around perma stealth.
3. Not counting the stealth disruptor traps only engineer can reveal them actually as the rest of professions need a valid target to cast they reveal skills.
Of course it is not op, this are the kind of builds anet should buff up and make them meta, just like meditrapper.
Make stealth last longer and buff trap damage and it will be ok.

Also before relinking I didn’t have 30+ queues on wvw, so that’s something I won’t like for sure.
Add on top of that the skill lag and you pretty much got yourself a recipe on how to definitely discourage players to play wvw.
I think you focus too much on playing super optimal build recommended by hardcore grinding guilds. If that is what you look for you pretty much have to go with the build your guild requires from you.
Other than that weapons you claim to be not viable are still viable, but not as optimal as meta builds. Then meta builds still suck if one doesn’t know how to play them and you can see it pretty clear in spvp, because people run with particular weapon and skillset but have no idea how to use it.
Go do tequatl event and see how meta builds lie down by his feet asking for revive
In general relinking is a horrible idea as it ruins the social side of the game. I am from UW and already got used to people from gunnar’s hold and ring of fire, started to know the names of players, identifying people. Now we will be paired with a server I haven’t even heard of.
Edit. I am not saying it’s wrong if it will solve any issues present in wvw (which I doubt it will), I am just gonna miss some people from GH and RoF.

I totally agree with you, especially with the point on passives. Those skills that automatically pop saving your butt or dealing massive damage without pushing any buttons are a joke, in any pvp.
Another thing are invulnerabilities- this shouldn’t exist in pvp. I play warrior and I sometimes laugh, so much because people cannot harm me and I am hitting them with everything I have.
But hey, good news, ANet is fixing spvp: you can get the ascension backpack/wings skin…
Last night I got a game that the enemy team wiped the floor with us. At the start I went close with my thief and won 1v2 to cap it. All of my 4 teammates went far and died while the enemy team capped mid, which means they were 4v2. And that repeated through all of the mach. I was getting beaten pretty bad also, a Guardian was killing me in 2 sec. So after the match I whispered with some of the players in the opposing team and 1 if them was Platinum and 2 were Gold, and I’m in BRONZE 1!!! I mean WHAT?!?

I am just wondering why, in the name of God, the higher rated player allocation is so unfair? Why they are all stacked in one team, meanwhile other team is full bronze?
When is this getting fixed? Why the rating even exists if it matches you with higher tiers anyways?
Another thing I noticed: the further you get with your w/l ratio past 50% the bigger chance that you will be “chosen” to carry the game. As soon as I am starting to get my win ratio over 50% I notice I am paired with worse players each game against stronger teams. At the moment the following pattern developed for me: win streak > loss streak > repeat. Once I get back to around 50% w/l I am again paired with better players against worst teams, so we steamroll the enemy. As you can guess it is a lot of fun for both teams <rolls eyes>
This is a nightmare, I play more balanced games in unranked than in ranked. Ranked sucks badly at the moment in matters of pairing players.
Seems I only join two kinds of games:
1. Ones where my team totally dominates the other other team and tbh it wouldn’t make much difference if they stayed at spawn point entire match.
2. Opposite to point 1.
Games where there was really tight competition between the teams I would say maybe 1 out of 10.
I still cannot comprehend how that system is supposed to work. You receive personal rating based on performance of entire team, ok, let’s say somehow this magically reflects your true performance. But why, most of the time, there is such a huge skill gap between the teams if they are supposed to be of similar skill?

I must admit in the end I tried both builds in wvw (sword/warhorn+hammer and gs+hammer) and what can I say is (keep in mind this is my personal opinion):
1. sword/warhorn+hammer is simply horrible for wvw situations. Warrior sucks badly as a support and you lose a lot of damage potential, not to mention your group utility skills are crap when you compare yourself to other support professions.
2. gs+hammer is my new personal favorite build for wvw. High damage, tons of cc, slows, weakness, I think this build benefits a group much more than the s/wh variant since apart from tons of cc you also deal tons of damage with gs.
In my opinion greatsword + hammer is really, really great for wvw, maybe even perfect, especially when 2-3 people in your group run with it. You land 1 rupturing smash, switch to gs launch thousands blades, whirlwind and arc divider and the damage is ridiculous.
Unfortunately hammer is not realy good.
I tend to strongly disagree with that statement. Maybe it is matter of build, item stats or consumables, I always buff myself with 10% dmg reduction food. As for items I mixed mara with berserker and 2 accesories with some extra toughness, I think knight’s but don’t remember.
As for being slow, well it is, it’s a two handed hammer
Keep in mind it compensates for the speed with its damage output and when you are in berserker stance hammer hits like a truck with the speed of warp 10.
If someone would be wondering whether to choose s/wh+hammer or gs+hammer, from my personal experience I strongly recommend the second option and your group will surely appreciate it.
Thief needs a total rework not nerfing. A profession that has to use all of its resources to cut some of my hp meanwhile I can kill him with 1 arc divider even when he goes to stealth is not balanced at all.
Anet is stuck on nerfing thieves’ defenses and focusing on its damage dealing, but it doesn’t work out. In spvp thief might be useful but in wvw they are still a noob stomping class forced to roam and pick the weakest targets from the herd. They are only dangerous in group of 2 or more but 1v1 I don’t see how evades are a problem when profession can be 1-2 shoted.
Thief by design is ganking profession, but since anet has no idea of balancing the game they gave every other profession tools to defend themselves against thieves negating its ganking potential, so thief right now is pretty weak in my opinion comparing to other professions, especially when everyone has auto-popping invulnerability.
Look at all those professions requiring skill…

Transformations (Just like Lichform) end Necromancer minions because you lose the skills they are tied to. Jagged Horrors remain because they are tied to a trait and not to a skill. That’s the explanation behind it.
So it also destroys mesmer’s illusions and ranger’s spirit/pets?
I fail to see the point. How wvw is imbalanced in your opinion and why do we need -20% Seige Damage taken? Conditions are op because they stack indefinitely and your solution is supposed to fix that? I don’t see how they are op, nor how your “solution” addresses and fixes it.
The biggest problem in wvw right now is the lag. If they fix it we can start thinking about further improvements, but in my opinion any changes introduced to this game mode without solving the lag issues have no sense.
