Yes. You would still gain 10 levels(and thus 10 skill points) for each craft you take 0-400 at level 80.

I’d like to see a bulk get(like the TP api has) so I am not doing 10,000 individual api calls when rebuilding recipe sheets. EG https://github.com/xanthics/gw2craft/blob/master/create_recipes.py

Ideally you should be able to jump in at any point. Jewelcrafting(and to a similar extent cooking) can have some confusing item flows from point a to point b.
Updated every 20 minutes based on current TP prices.
I’m running into some errors for the Jewelrycrafting guide. Specifically, at 200, it asks me to discover Topaz Gold Earring of Ravaging, but the ingredients won’t show up together in the discovery panel. (Embellished Gilded Topaz Jewel and Gold Hook/Setting don’t go together for some reason.) Also, I suspect there was an error in the buy list as well, as I didn’t have the Topaz Lumps I needed to make the 3 Embellished Gilded Topaz Jewels it asks for in this section. You asked to buy Topaz Nuggets instead, but they aren’t used in the formula..
The Topaz Lumps are refined from Topaz Nuggets at 125 in some guides ( http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Topaz_Lump ). One of the things I definitely need to make clearer but am unsure how to approach(code wise, I plan on tagging them with a “refine at earlier level”).
3x Embellished Gilded Topaz Jewel(rare not masterwork) + 1x Gold Setting + 1x Gold Hook combined fine in discovery for me. Had you maybe already learned that recipe?
The recipes are pulled directly from the API, meaning no more by hand parsing the wiki, so they are the same as what is in game.

Tonights changes added everything I was hoping for. Crafting guide should get automated recipe lists tomorrow and then I won’t have to touch it again (except to add any new cooking recipe locations)

For these API to be useful for me I would need the additional information in bold. This is what I envision needing to automate my crafting guides recipes.
get all valid/known recipes via recipes.json
via recipe_details.json get each(new) recipes item_id created, skill level, craft required(eg cooking), recipe source(eg discovery, learned automatically, learned from recipe – with source), craft type from refine, part and item(they each give different xp)
Sample fields:
“craft”:“cooking”
Possibly values: cooking, jewelcrafting, artificing, leatherworking, armorcrafting, tailoring, weaponcrafting, huntsman
“source”:“discovery”
Possible values: discovery, learned, recipe name eg “Recipe: Ooze Custard”
“craft_type”:“item”
Possible values: part, refine, item. This may be redundant if “type” already implies that information but it would need possible results documented somewhere.

I am excited by what I see here, as it would make adding new recipes to my crafting script very easy in the future(instead of having to parse the wiki and create custom tools I can just run an update vs the api).
However there are a few changes(more information) that I would like to see.
https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/recipes.json
- Fine as is.
https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/recipe_details.json?recipe_id=3479 example recipe
- Field indicating if the recipe is a refine, part or item – different xp gained for each. Unless type is supposed to fill that function.
- What craft(s) can use this recipe.
- Recipe source. Discovery, learned automatically, learned from recipe(breadcrumb to recipe IE “35 karma, Scholar Tholin – Krongar Pass(Timberline Falls 50-60)”)
https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/items.json
- Fine as is
https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/item_details.json?item_id=13273 example item
- Link to the icon used by the item. Such as https://dfach8bufmqqv.cloudfront.net/gw2/img/content/e414cb68.png

My fast guides already make the same item for 25 points, I also have discovery versions but the inventory requirements on those are silly even if they do save you 20-50 silver. These 3 guides are 2-3g(at time of post) and update every hour.

You’ve got it right. I determine the “Top 5” from running the all hearts guide. The top 5 main purpose is to give a guide that is cheaper than no hearts, but a lot less running around than all hearts.( A middle ground as you would).

You only did 7 crafts to 400. (if you started at level 2 first craft is 13 levels due to “bonus exp” from 1-15, and then 6×10 to stop at 75).
Make sure all the Crafting masters are trying too charge you 40 silver to switch to their craft.

There is no difference between a masterwork crafted vs masterwork drop of the same level(and stat name e.g. berserker). However it can be sometimes “cheaper” to acquire an item through crafting it.
I personally would not gear just 1 toon via leveling crafts to make gear for it because of the initial cost. However when you start gearing 4-5 toons the initial cost becomes bearable.

You can have 2 of the 8 crafts active at a time per toon. It costs 10 copper * level in that craft(ie 40 silver for a 400 level craft) to switch to an inactive craft. And you don’t lose levels in a craft by making it inactive.
If you want access to all crafts on your account it is a better idea in the long run to have 4 toons each with unique crafts.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Experience#Total_experience_gain_per_level
From level 1-15 character experience rewards (crafting, events, explores, etc) are based off a table of higher values than is actually needed for those levels. So you end up getting about 30% more experience than expected 1-15. Leveling a craft from 1-400 will net you slightly more than 13 levels assuming you start at 2.

I read I should not use craft booster and I should go to overflow like lion’s arch if I want max xp via crafting.
Can anyone confirm?
Both wrong. Essentially someone is telling you to reduce your chance to critical while crafting to 0. When in reality, your critical rate has nothing to do with the total experience you will get and instead will only reduce the number of items you need to craft to reach 400.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting
Crafting boosters give you a +50%, additive with wvw bonus, chance to critical while doing a craft. Max bonus of 70%. What a critical does while crafting is give you 50% bonus crafting experience that is additive with other crafting bonuses(discovery, masterwork and rare crafts). That page will explain how crafting xp is determined per item.
However the amount of character experience you get from crafting is determined by your progress through the crafting levels based on the following values;
1-100 1% of current level per crafting level
101-200 2% of current level per crafting level
201-300 3% of current level per crafting level
301-400 4% of current level per crafting level
And these values scale to partial levels, like lvl 1, half full bar is 1.5% of a level. Going 0-400 will give you 10 levels from whatever level you started at, every time.
There is 1 exception in that xp rewards from 1-15 are larger than the actual xp needed for those levels. ( source ) so you will get about 13 levels while crafting.
And if you need guides to follow, I have always current ones in my signature.

Always current crafting guides: http://gw2crafts.saladon.net
Information about crafting: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting
If you are trying to do this all with just mats that you have and not buying anything off the TP you are going to need to do a lot of farming(which will probably get you 80 anyways). I would suggest checking http://www.gw2db.com/ to sort recipes by craft/level(you can do that on the wiki as well but easier here).

1-400 is 10 levels worth of xp. However Anet increased the amount of xp you get from rewards during 1-15 so events/crafting/explore/etc will give you more experience than expected(crafting will give ~13 levels instead of 10)

I’m stuck at 375 artificing. I’ve done the steps mentioned but I’m still 15 levels away from 400?
If you are stuck at about ~383-385 it means you made masterwork insignia/inscription instead of rare insignia/inscription.
I’ll fix the guides suggesting Plated Dowels as a prior tier item when I get home.(While it is technically better xp/gold than the other options because of sub parts at that point, it is 0 xp for that actual tier.) Fixed

Check the guides in my sig. I even have a totals page so you have a general idea of what you can do.
Personally, I recommend playing 1-25, 35-50 and 70+ as there is a lot of event chains you can do.

I would suggest grabbing the relevant guides from my site(see sig) and if you need even lower prices, placing buy orders for the parts.
Updated every 20 minutes based on current TP prices.
…the guides when using a crafting booster…
Crafting boosters only provide a 50% additive, with wvw, bonus to critical chance and nothing else. So conceivably you can use a crafting booster and get 0 crits thus still needing a full guide. Guides need to be based around that worst case scenario, 0 critical crafts, or some people will find themselves stuck with a guide that doesn’t give them enough points.
Updated every 20 minutes based on current TP prices.
Can any good chef give me some advice please?
Before I wrote my crafting guide scripts(see sig), I would pull up the recipes on http://gw2spidy.com and find the cheapest one I could make each 25 point tier. Everything you can make in cooking counts as an item too so technically you can get 40 points per recipe.
Updated every 20 minutes based on current TP prices.
Its 10%, not +10. Anywhere you see +10 xp it really means 10%.
Updated every 20 minutes based on current TP prices.
Updated every 20 minutes based on current TP prices.
You still get crafting experience from combining an insignia and the parts to make the item. Every step of crafting an item grants experience as long as each recipe isn’t red or grey.
There is no “costs issue.” The TP is in a natural state from having people wanting to dump items that they made(probably in error) which increases supply, which fills and then decreases demand and drives down prices. Prior to my guides there wasn’t any guides out there telling you to buy insignia or parts of an item, thus only people that wanted to spend the extra time knew about buying insignia directly.

(edited by xanthic.9478)
From the wiki: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting#Skill_level
1-100 = 1% of current level per point
101-200 = 2% of current level per point
201-300 = 3% of current level per point
301-400 = 4% of current level per point
Which works out to 10 levels total. There is 1 exception to this in that they adjusted the character xp you need from 1-15 without adjusting the character xp you get from crafting so you can get ~30% more character xp than expected in that range.
Also since the ‘answer’ in the other post about crafting boosters was incorrect but accepted anyways. Crafting boosters provide an additive(with wvw bonus) +50% increase to your change for a critical while crafting and absolutely nothing else.

[…]I noticed that its actually cheaper to train four of the crafts to 150 than it is to train Artificing (currently the cheapest by ~20sil) to 400. IIRC that’s going to be 15-20 levels for about 1.5 less gold (and you don’t intend to take a craft to 400 anyway).[…]
0-150 is 2 levels(1-100 is 1% per per level, 101-200 is 2% per level, etc). So it would be 8 levels. But it is reasonably close price wise. If you ever decided to finish a craft it would cost 10 copper * level (so 15 silver in this example) to switch back to a craft.
does this take into account crafting boosters?
Crafting boosters are a 50% crit rate boost. From the FAQ:
Q) Various questions about crit rate/chance.
A) This script assumes a 0% crit rate, so crits may reduce the number of crafts needed.
I’ll reword the FAQ to specifically mention boosters.

These guides have come a long way since I first posted them on December 24th. From the initial “check prices on base mats, craft everything and output to a text file for armor and weapon crafts” to the current incarnation.
Features:
- Calculated the lowest initial gold price method of leveling a craft. Considers buying or making any part of an item.
- Normal and Fast guides for all 8 crafts.
- Icons for everything that needs to be purchased or used in a discovery to make them easier to find.
- 3 different styles of Cooking guides featuring no Renown Heart items/recipes, some or all.
- Guides automatically updated about every hour based on current TP prices.
- Pop out buy lists for each tier on non-cooking guides. Ie t1 = 0-75
- Minimalist web page design.
Fast guides craft the same item for a 25 point chunk. They are more expensive than normal guides but require a lot less inventory space and attention.
Feel free to ask any questions, provide suggestions or leave comments. I am still looking for things to add to the FAQ.
