Pretty sure that never happened, and it’s just you inventing stuff to make a point.
Unfortunately for you, engis are awesome in PVE and in FOM. And it’s not because of their DPS.
Every person should have at least 1 stun break or condition cleanse equipped. If not, you are just further promoting a bunker/burst meta? How do you not understand this concept.
This is kind of a good point.
Locking the utilities might help force people to move away from pure bunker/burst builds, which would actually solve a lot of issues in one simple move.
The thing is, I get where the idea is coming from.
In a lot of esports, you get a “pre-game meta” where the team picks its loadout and that loadout stays the same for the length of that round.
Like in CS, does your team upgrade straight to assault rifles, or do they save cash, go for an extra cash-generating shotgun etc. Or the league of legends pre-game meta.
Having that provides a frame of reference for the round, where you know what each player can do, and how the team as a whole has built for the upcoming game and those:
“oh-dear they decided to go glass cannon DDs, they don’t know it yet but they’re facing a lot of condition builds and they didn’t take enough condition removal, how will they deal with this….” – makes for more pre-game anticipation and conversation.
Some teams will gain a rep for example using bunker guardians, so the other team may decide before the start of the match to counter it with necros or boon removal, but no one knows for sure what the other team’s loadout is, so there is room for a lot of bluffing and double-bluffs, etc.
(edited by xiv.7136)
That’s a pretty big change, people often use weapon swap from inventory to get swiftness etc between fights / while respawning.
Utility swapping for clutch situations was also there, but I guess it makes sense to do this for one main reason linked to e-sports:
It creates a “pre-game meta” where both teams have to choose what they are running with and it’s set in stone after that.
That’s something that viewers and players can “hook” onto, and creates a lot more “how are they going to deal with this with what they have” situations and anticipation.

In pretty much all the game stores/sections, GW2 sits somewhere alongside Dishonoured, CODBOPS2 and Far Cry 3.
It’s really visible from across the store since the box is all white and quite unadorned, unlike the others.
Mine is downloading fine but yeah, the update is pretty large, surprisingly so
oh wait it’s downloading now
it’s going pretty fast but damn, that’s a HUGE update xD
guessing everyone is having the same issue, server hamster exploded
We just had the same the previous week.
It is brutal, but also fun to think of how scared of you they have to be to actually require 2-1 numbers to even the odds for them.
Title says it all. When most games only charge a purchase fee and nothing else and they start dropping the price like crazy; it usually indicates a game that is losing its popularity. This isn’t meant to be a “OH NO THE GAME’S DYING” thread, its just something that could be quite possibly true.
It’s obvious you don’t know anything about marketing or business, or are just trolling.
Aggressive pricing combined with heavy marketing ahead of the biggest consumer shopping week of the year.
Yeah.
The game is hugely successful and obviously making a ton of money. And with all the marketing (adverts just before the hobbit movie? way to target the demographic), GW2 is set to sell like hot cakes over xmas too.
Every single sign points to a simple reality: GW2 is doing very, very well.
Last night they increased the server caps but I’m still getting into overflow in LA.
It was just so people could join their friends on full servers, which people were complaining they couldn’t before since the whole list was full.
Pretty nice really, a friend of mine just transferred and would have had to wait for the “6AM sneaky-morning-transfer window” otherwise.
Well there are some very strangely sore people in here.
It’s only an award.
There were major games released this year: ME3, Torchlight 2, Diablo 3, WoW MOP, Secret World, to name but a few – and sure not all were great, or to everyone’s tastes.
But really, we know GW2 is the best MMO out there by far, and it’s hugely successful.
There’s nothing wrong with that
The original post is pretty obvious.
WoW is full of hacks and bots. We all know this because arena and BGs are full of botters and exploiters. Anyone who has played WoW knows warden does nothing, and Blizzard never bans the cheaters.
Paradoxically I haven’t seen any of that in GW2 sPVP and not a single bot in sPVP. There is culling/stealth problems, but that’s the game itself, not hacks or bots. There isn’t even any power-boosting service or win-trading.
Also, aimbots? Really? Have you ever even played GW2?
(edited by xiv.7136)
Grats and well deserved :>
Agreed.
ArenaNet has done much better than any other MMO when it comes to fighting bots, and deserve a lot of kudos for it.
There will always be people trying to bot etc in MMOs, but Arenanet has actually banned loads of them and continues to do so, whereas other companies really haven’t, and probably can’t.
@OP, i too played a healer in every other MMO and was looking forward to trying it in GW2 even though i knew there was no hard trinity. I found that it was a nice change to not have to be the only healer.
My group(4 RL friends) found that dungeons go way way better if everyone has some sort of support in their build. We run 2 shout warriors(shouts heal and remove conditions and buff/debuff), a guardian in full tank gear and support spec’d can keep stability, regen, and aegis up on the whole party so often its ridiculous how much damage he mitigates. And a necro with healing well and condition removal. Everyone is buffing/healing everyone and we basically steamroll everything and have a blast doing it. No one has to stand in the back and heal, i can heal/support on my warrior and still be right up in someones face with my greatsword.
Try it out, i think you will find your niche.
Yeah this sounds pretty good
Maybe 1 shout warrior, 1 tank/supp guardian, 1 wells necro, 1 elementalist and 1 engi
Would love to try that setup out xD
Great, I’m glad we all agree that server capacity is the amount of people registered to that server, as Eva suggested in her response to this exact same thread at https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Server-Populations/first#post703192
Thanks.
I give up.
You want to keep lying on the forums, fine.
I’ll just go back to WvW xD
Well anyway, the official word from arenanet is that server capacity is amount of players registered to that server, you can see the official arenanet response here:
Anyway the fact of the matter is that Eva said server capacity is total players registered to that server
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Server-Populations/first#post703192
Stop repeating the same nonsense, it’s weird xD
We’ve just discussed it and unless you believe that everyone is transferring servers every morning (which they can’t) then what you’re saying isn’t true.
CC Eva does not say anything clearly, and in fact goes back on what she said earlier. I’m fairly sure he/she must be embarrassed at the confusion, and she hasn’t posted anything about it since.
Use your common sense.
Jeez xD
I agree with this, we need more gold for events and such, would be nice, bump it up to like 1g and no one will complain
I have answered it in my previous messages. Read up.
From a programming standpoint, you have to make it the amount of registered users on the server.
You’re not answering the question. Still.
Why do the servers go down from full to high every morning.
People usually move servers before going to bed, or after waking up.
So your answer, let me get this straight, is that:
Servers go down from full to high every day in the morning because everyone moves server at the same hours – between 5am and 8am.
Never mind that transferring has a 1-week cooldown, people are doing this same thing, every day.
Do you really believe this? Maybe you believe that the entire US government are aliens?
You haven’t answered my question.
Honestly, your explanation is entirely fabricated.
I’ve just explained to you why your only reason is obviously wrong, because transfers have a 1-week cooldown.
Surely you agree your explanation is incorrect?
Edit: oh and never mind the hilarious assumption that everyone is moving servers every morning from 5am-8am.
I have answered it in my previous messages. Read up.

Admittedly it is true guardian and ele make for some actually pretty good healers/supporters.
But there is no healing class that targets 1 person and channels heals on them. That’s what I think of as a healing class, and yeah looking back on it, that’s a fairly poor definition and a really boring, static style of gameplay: just staring at green bars and debuff lines while avoiding the fire like everyone else.
And I played a pure healer at top level in many games, you realise how backward the whole idea is after a while.
Just out of curiosity does anybody else have opponent servers who actually put up arrow carts and ballistas in the eternal JP? I understand people camping it but having siege in it seems a little ridiculous to me. I think that siege deployment should be blocked in the jumping puzzle as well but that’s just my opinion. What does everyone else think? I do believe that it is more than a LITTLE annoying when you get camped by people with siege in the JP after you just spend 20 minutes getting that far…
It’s a PVP map, it’s not surprising that PVP ends up being part of doing the jumping puzzle xD
I have explained that many times before. You simply choose to ignore it.
Let’s suppose that server status is current people playing at that time (which it isn’t), what happens if there’s 20 000 accounts registered to that server, but the server only handles 10 000 concurrent players? what happens to the rest? it tells them sorry you can’t connect?
That does not explain why server full drops to high every morning.
Answer the question.
It’s just the most fun MMO, and the most beautiful.
Also, WvW – it’s just extremely relaxing to run around, either doing objective play with the groups, or just roaming and fighting.
I’ll say it again:
Explain why the servers keep dropping to high every morning in the early hours.
Eva said: when you see a server FULL means that the people who’ve chosen that server as theirs, or players who have moved to that particular server, have reached the cap
How is that ambiguous? It’s the amount of people who have chosen that server as theirs, or have moved to that server, it’s reached its limit.
Explain why the servers keep dropping to high every morning in the early hours.
I should have just used the word “off-peak”, that kind of makes what I’m trying to explain simpler xD
Many times mods have said server capacity is people REGISTERED to that server.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Server-Populations/first#post703192
There’s a quote from a mod. WHY ARE WE STILL ARGUING THIS?
Because what she said isn’t clear.
And because server population changes by time of day, every day.
Registered accounts do not fluctuate by time of day, every day.
It’s always lower from like 5am-8am, when late night players go to bed and early morning players haven’t woken up yet.
You must be new to MMOs. All MMOs are quite empty at those hours of the morning. That’s exactly what you would expect to see if the server list was tracking people currently online.
Server population is not players online at that time, it’s players registered to that server.
Yes, it’s full of accounts of people who aren’t playing.
You keep repeating this, in every thread, several times a day, but it is not true.
Otherwise how do you explain servers keep going down from full to heavy in the mornings, and back up again every evening?
People switch server. it’s still free, but you have to wait 7 days to do it again.
Do you really think there’s that many people playing at 8am on a tuesday?
I know there is.
I actually play in the mornings, and there’s always groups running and active WvW.
People are not transferring servers every day in the morning, and then back again in the evening. For obvious reasons, there is a 1 week cooldown.
Your obsession with trying to make everything think “full” servers are somehow empty is interesting.
EDIT: Oh look, you edited your post.
They look and feel empty. I believe he is right btw, it will say high pop in the morning and LA will even be pretty empty.
So your post history says you’ve been doomsaying for the last couple of months.
Yet you’re still here?
You must really love the game to write posts predicting its demise every day, yet still stick around to play and comment.

Every time i login, the game seems to be empty…. i simply cant find any players, and the chat is empty aswell. this makes me so sad, it’s a great game !
is it just me ?
I find these posts perplexing. I play most days, and I have friends on other servers. All of them are very full, with LA on overflow for most of the hours of the day.
The OP mentions blacktide in an earlier post of his. Blacktide is always busy. Even at 6am there are people making fractals groups in LA. I know, it’s weird.
The OP wrote his post at 8AM, asking where everyone is.
People are in bed dude, or getting ready for work, usually.
But here’s the thing.
Blacktide has lots of people in LA at 8AM. I know this for a fact.
So I’m guessing you’re just lying to make a point.
(edited by xiv.7136)
Simply put – fun.
I enjoy WvW a lot, I find PVP overall oddly relaxing and calming.
I have nothing but pity for people who play MMOs to chase pixels that mean nothing at all, or just to watch a number increase on the screen, timesinkers who make the mistake of putting their ego into their gear rather than their skill.
Let’s face it, you don’t play tennis to keep getting more expensive rackets and shoes. You play it for fun, and to become more skilled at it.
(edited by xiv.7136)
Honestly, if you’re skilled and able to juggle a lot of abilities, dagger/dagger elementalist.
Fantastic and fun class, with a ton of tricks and incredibly strong in PVE/PVP/WVW.
If you’re unskilled, warrior will suit fine, it’s very basic and predictable but easy to understand and play at average level.
It boils down to this.
If the MMO in question is WoW: “Server population is directly correlated to the number of people playing.”
If the MMO in question isn’t WoW: “Server population is a complex conspiracy to make us think people actually play when the game is really dyeing.”
It’s really nothing more than that.
Pretty much this.
Tinfoil hat brigade is around.
I take my headset off when they are around. No biggie.
I do think some players do it “just” because they know it annoys people/
We really don’t. Shout warriors are basically buff machines that need to keep spamming their FGJ on cd to keep the buffs up.
No healers, no tanks. Don’t ask for stuff that would ruin the game.
What, like lots of grind or vertical gear progression?
LF2M healer and tank for hours and hours and hours and hours, no sorry, no.
Cause it’s much better to stand in LA LFG Fractals level 2 or not being able to do events cause you’re the only one there.
There’s a LFG website.
If you have troubles finding groups, you should go there.
It works remarkably well and you can make a group for any dungeon in the game in minutes.
And no waiting for tanks or healers either!
I would like to know aswell, Blacktide is for some reason always full. Even early morning 5pm.
A friend of mine got onto Blacktide a few days ago in the morning. It goes down from full to high every morning at around 6am CET
The dirty truth is that everyone who actually bothered to post in this thread likes the game.
Or else they simply would not be here (unless they’re hopelessly addicted)
The thing is, with a lack of healers and tanks the game requires more teamwork
Support, shields, boons, CC – all contribute to creating a full group in charge of all mechanics, not just the tank and healer dealing with mechanics while DPS do their rotation for the n-th time and stare at the dps numbers like mindless zombies.
I play a shouts warrior and long ago I disabled dialogue sound.
The thing with “for great justice” is, with a shouts spec, you want to spam it on cooldown. All the time. Never leave a gap.
e-sports are not made overnight.
It took years for SC2 and LoL to get to where they are.
Let’s see some e-sport features like spectator mode, rankings, ladders etc
Look, if it was the warrior misses his 100b and is completely useless this whole 100b issue for the spvp(casual players) would be a non-issue. As it stands you can miss 100b and still easily down someone because the cooldown is so low and you can survive long enough as a good warrior to use it multiple times in one life. Where as other classes might be able to kill you in less than 10 seconds if you are a completly bad warrior, and you can kill them in under 2 seconds. I don’t see any place for a skill like that except for killing bunkers. Thieves in spvp usually suck and sometimes really good people use thieves/warriors to glory boost. It’s a press 2 buttons free kill in spvp and it makes casual players quit. I want casual players so we can have paid tournies pop which take forever now. Too many people are quitting because you want the game balanced on the top 10% which alienates the other 90% which isn’t right. You are the minority and like I said, most of the time a warrior can be the best warrior and I will beat them. Well of darkness, and 3 necromancer teleports + 2 fears can beat almost any warrior and I am at 88% games played as necromancer out of 700 ish games. I am not bad and have a 80% win ratio in free tpvp, saving up tickets for awhile.
Next time think out the whole scenario, and don’t limit it to simple things. Get better at macro logic.
I’ve seen a lot of players like you.
In SWTOR, you were the guys asking to nerf operatives. In WoW you were the guys asking to nerf mages. In TSW, you were the guys asking to nerf assault rifles.
You put a lot of hours of gametime in and think that should make you automatically win with whatever squishy spec you play (100blades one-shots you as a necro? are you serious), but you lack twitch ability and assume the game is at fault.
It isn’t.
Actually… Operatives are very weak. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PVrCJI7dRU
here is me showing off my insane healing. Here is me getting 72% dmg reduction?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgMeyDVI37E
I rock all operatives, except “Agust” he is the only one I could never beat. stalemate everytime.""Well of darkness, and 3 necromancer teleports + 2 fears can beat almost any warrior and I am at 88% games played as necromancer out of 700 ish games. I am not bad and have a 80% win ratio in free tpvp, saving up tickets for awhile.""
gg
In all those cases the class was neutered (operatives got gutted, for example – and warriors in wow ironically were gutted for the same reason, burst which the class needed to be viable but caused bad players to cry) because of mistaken nerf cries from people who blamed the game for their own inadequacies.
Don’t be that guy.
(edited by xiv.7136)
Well ok, you can be a support elementalist, engi or guardian etc and do a lot of group healing.
But it’s not a dedicated healer, and will not keep alive dps who stand in fire etc.
Stop repeating false information.
Full means the server is full of people online and playing.
This is easily checked because it changes intra-day, and full servers go to very high around the early mornings every day.
I’m guessing it won’t be real-time every minute, but updated every hour etc
Enjoy – it’s the best MMO out there, by far.
Remember you can go to the mists to be insta-levelled to 80 with all abilities and gear and try out different classes on the target dummies to see what you like.
No healers, no tanks. Don’t ask for stuff that would ruin the game.
LF2M healer and tank for hours and hours and hours and hours, no sorry, no.
