Actually, XIV, far from it. I’m a ranger – almost 23K HP, 1546 Toughness, 2610 Armor, and use Longbow and GS primarily. I use barrage as much as possilbe, AOEing in zergs regularly with it. I average 45 – 60 kills per hour. (I believe that’s pretty decent. Lvl 78 Major with 23,328 WvW kills atm that I’ve contributed to.) And I play on EB and the BLs.

I use healing spring, signet of stone and food to deal with damage. And, no, retaliation is not a big deal for me.

A guardian is a pin cushion just like anybody else – in a zerg or otherwise! ;-)

for PVE, don’t need PVT at all – if you’re getting downed a lot in dungeons/fractals, you gotta rethink what you’re doing

for WvW, half PVT as staff is fine, if you’re not a total baddie you can add in some other stuff

there’s only 2 things you need to stand still for: meteor shower (just time it carefully) and water 5 (it’s short cast), rest is all on the move anyway

you don’t need full PVT gear

I have to agree in general PvE content you dont need as much PTV if you can dodge and position. Except higher level Fractals and Arah

it sounds like you’re mainly doing PVE, as ranged staff ele

for that I’d recommend something like zerker overall with PVT chest/legs/helm – mixed with as much valkyrie as you feel you need to stay safe, don’t need much more than that

it’s the very basic bunker staff build as in the title

0/10/0/30/30 with cantrips, I switch out the 3rd cantrip depending on situation

standard 10 air, evasive arcana, cleansing water or aurashare

I switch out the water stuff sometimes to get more dps at the cost of condi removal

I should specify what the video is, since WvW is often confusing visually.

This is a Forsaken Gamers guild group of around 25, fighting in Borderlands rather than EB, which most guilds agree to leave to pugs with pug commanders.

The video is mostly fights against other organised guilds like Red Guard, BuLL, Nuke, Second Law, etc. but also against larger less organised zergs.

We run with our own guild and roam. Sometimes other friendlies are around, this can’t be prevented; they usually just stand around the edges and get downed, giving the opponent free rallies. Sometimes other guilds are around like VII, we roam separately but sometimes paths cross, just the nature of WvW.

My task throughout the video is to drop fields to support the warband – for might, healing, cc, chill, etc. – and to do AOE dps.

Everything staff ele’s do is “spamming AOE”.

That’s kind of how the class works.

FG guild group of 20-25 roaming WvW, mostly fights against other organised guilds like Red Guard, BuLL, Nuke, Second Law, etc. but also against larger less organised zergs.

Nerf the hard hitters and then give them more gap closers, conditions protection and CC.

All the kitten like hundred blades and such is just dragging warriors down, because as long as theoretically they can do like 12k bursts every 8 seconds, they can’t really be buffed.

Slash the theoretical output by 30% and then add more NON-DAMAGING abilities to either sustain himself longer or control the fight more.

Although I agree with you, I think the argument to make would be: that’s what a guardian is.

I think the challenge is to make the warrior a viable, solid melee – but without turning it into a guardian.

I think guardian with regen + prot + aegis + cc, etc all combined has too much, and in turn warrior has too little. That’s the core of the problem.

- kill shot same animation as auto-attack, no crouching and can be done on the move
- hundred blades causes distortion like blurred frenzy
- mending removes all conditions, rest same
- trait for +50% damage on immobilised targets for that “burst class” feel

Here is how I define it:

Think about which type of player you want to play with.

I have something similar but dropped pure of voice and went over to absolute resolution to remove conditions and make the passive stronger on voResolve

Makes for much better condition removal when you need it (lots of condis and need a quick heal), and improves boon duration from the traitline which helps for group play

It doesn’t seem like much, but it helps both the long run sustain and the quick recovery when overloaded with condis which happens a lot in wvw – with the side benefit of adding more retal when activating virtues, it all meshes well together.

Also what if all shouts broke stuns, removed a condition and applied regeneration and vigor, and shieldstance/endurepain prevented condition damage, and mending removed all conditions, and dodging turned you into optimus prime

Lots of people got burned on lack of pvp stream views in the past, but it’s never too late, time to drop the past and move forward, call up that contacts list and make it happen

This build gives you a ton of healing and front line staying power. Get that symbol down from the Auto Attack Chain and live in it. Note the runes and increased symbol duration as this keeps your Protection going. You can also throw on the Signet of Judgement with Protection for 43% damage reduction all the time. Other melee will benefit from your Symbols also.
I run Zerker gear here because the damage reduction takes care of you quite a bit. Mix in some Soldiers if you feel you need to.
This build also supports GSword and Staff quite well. It doesn’t have the highest DPS but its not bad.
After you get used to Hammer you can move into a higher DPS build quite easily.

Here’s something interesting about [TIA] from Riverside.

Gandara were also complaining about them glitching into keeps etc

However as mentioned above TIA took a tower in our BL’s by glitching into it. Auroura Glade were attacking the door I ran over to start a defence but 3 or 4 TIA were already at the lord and capped it…nothing down they did it under cover of AG catapult attacks….they also capped Greenlake Tower also but I dont think we had anybody there to confirm if it was legit. They were spotted in Hills Lord room but they ported when we spotted them before anything kicked off and the were also spotted in bay as mentioned above.

Just a heads up! As i don’t want any drama in here so i keep it short. But keep an eye out for a guild called TIA (Riverside). I think they are called “Tyrian Intelligence Agency” and i noticed that they enjoy scouting a lot. Pretty awesome guild concept tbh! But anyways, they were found in our Bay, in the walls and also in the ground. They didn’t capture our Bay but that could be because we had about 4 of ours inside as well, noticing their movements under the ground. We are not accusing them because we don’t know if they actually glitch capped anything yet but please, keep an eye out! They left the Bay later! <3

They’ve added an internal cooldown on Empowering Might and Altrustic Healing procs, either 9s or 10s (tested in mists) just like the weapon sigils

According to inside source, other changes:

- RTL requires a target to work
- damage of auto-attacks increased for staff and dagger
- mist form and flash no longer break stun

This is going to be patched in tomorrow with original stealth change from SOTG, should help warriors a lot to gain ele-like condi removal at the cost of adrenaline.

It’s not bad looking, check the front page, has a link to the tourney leaderboards with ratings.

Also, if you’re in party with someone there’s a new /duel option with right click on portrait.

TLDR version:

My server’s private parts are bigger than your server’s private parts.

I’ve been playing staff lately.

As long as you don’t tunnel vision an attunement and make sure you’re in situations where ranged AOE is useful in some way, it’s really an excellent weapon.

Yes, you don’t have the 1v1 capability of D/D or S/D. Yes, you don’t have the escapes and mobility.

What staff ele does is provide the highest level of both survivability and damage support of any class, and used properly tools like static field, frozen/unsteady ground can make a big difference.

The key is to not focus on one thing. As an ele, use a combination of every attunement, all the time.

Get real. If you can’t compensate for a significant loss as your guys are asking, then cut the kitten and ask for arenanet to just remove ele all together.

Ele’s are overpowered right now.

Until you realise this, you aren’t really going to be able to make sound balance decisions.

When comparing warrior and ele mobility you have to add this in:

-While crippled

When crippled (which is 24/7 against good opponents) warrior movement skills get halved in range:

Warrior Rush -> Bull’s Charge (range is actually 900) -> Whirlwind Attack -> swap to sword and Savage Leap

Total range covered 1200 + 900 + 450 +600 = 3,150 / 2 = 1575 in 4 seconds total time

Elementalist RtL -> Burning Speed -> Lightning Flash

Total range covered 1200 + 600 + 900 = 2,700 Total time 3 seconds

Now you see the difference.

The other way would be to reduce the range of burning speed/RTL and even lightning flash range by 50% when crippled to make it more even.

You see the problem. The problem is not the range, it’s the immunities. Immobilise is the only counter really and ele does have incredible condi removal, so perhaps warrior skills should also remove all movement conditions while doing their thing?

Or make RTL affected by slows/chills/stuns/etc for its full duration.

Personally, my escape sequence is always the same: cantrip flash into RTL (cantrips remove condis in my spec)

Either go standard mouse and ZXCV for attunements (1-5 for weapon skills)

or

Naga Hex 1-5 weapon skills, 1-4 on keyboard for attunements, utilities etc QERTG

Best game, that’s just not a possible judgement to make, you can’t compare say Tetris with Counterstrike, they’re just too different. It’s like comparing Brahms with Spice Girls, or opera with sex in the city.

Comparing like for like, compared to other MMOs with hotbars and such, yes, ok, GW2 makes the other games look plain bad.

Meh, I played axe/mace warrior with no issues. Sword/shield for 2nd set for added utility and control. I didn’t play at the top level though, but either did 95% of the other people claiming to.

Go duel a great sword dps guardian on your great sword warrior 100 times. You could win 99 of them with nothing but an amulet on.

You’re obviously a terrible guardian. Sidenote: GS is good for hybrid builds and not in any way viable for a full dps guard. A full dps guard brings scepter/torch and sword/focus. Which means imboilize, blind and block. it’s too easy to stay in range.
Now look at GS. That means you wanna get into close-range to every opponent AS A GC. That makes not any sense.

PS: if you loose as a guard to a warrior you should stop playing guardian and go ele instead.

The real take-away is that not much has changed – read not enough has changed

We need more updates, more changes, and faster.

The philosophy of “we’ll make 2 tiny changes and wait a month to see the results” is not going to work any more.

It’s time to pull up your socks and do a lot of changes to really push the meta out.

We made suggestions.

They were ignored.

No one asked for a kick buff. No one asked for passive stat boosts on banners to be increased.

People have made a lot of good suggestions, but we are being ignored right now.

I’ve always been a major defender of the game because it just plays so kitten well and looks great.

But right now, I am very disappointed with the s/tPVP outlook, the laziness of actual implementation, and the downright incompetent class balancing.
