30 points in defense and you call this a DPS build? :S
I run healing shouts with a GS and probs do a hella’ lot more DPS than this build.
The build is ridic’lous yo. Not the DPS.

There really is nothing else out there in any MMO even close to as good as current WVW in GW2.
Feb update is just a bonus really, ongoing fixes.
I actually think this is the simplest solution, for both wvw and sPVP
- Stomp cast time reduced to 2 seconds
- Stomp cannot be used while stealthed, mistform, DSed, etc
- Stability stomp still allowed since you can’t control if someone else gives you the boon
That’s it. We can see how it impacts everything else, but I expect it will solve a lot of issues.
I got some high res pics of the moot, quip, predator and the dreamer if anyone want to see. Unfortunately can’t find anyone with the warhorn or any of the aquatic legendaries (guess people don’t exactly make those hehe)

Thief is probably the easiest to do very well with in wvw.
D/D ele is much more satisfying.
Warrior is just great glass cannon fun.
Guardian is the most useful to the group, and probably the best one for newest players as the gameplay is slower and less twitch.

yeah i was wondering how he was surviving for so long in that 1v5 or something (2nd battle). I thought it was the warrior but in actual fact, it was the enemies’ noobness that were too op for themselves.
Real Men cause panic and awe wherever they go. The weak ones run in fear, fumble and drop their skittles.
But a real Man also has complexity and depth. This is why all the women want him. Consider this.
Also note, Balance stance and last stand conflict. If you use balance stance, last stands internal cooldown of 90 sec gets activated. So you would need to use balance stance after last stand’s balance stance is activated. Endure pain is also currently glitched to give only 3 seconds.
In the video I use balanced stance early in the fight against the necro to preempt a reapers mark fear. 15 seconds later the last stand trait triggers when he pops DS fear and gives me a 2nd stability.
When the necro is downed and fears me away, defy pain trait triggers just as the thief bursts me while I’m feared. I survive long enough to get the necro low enough to rally off his downstate, without the defy pain trait I would have been downed by the thief.
Glass cannon or go home. Real men don’t need no toughness. We don’t need no vitality. Healing shouts, banners? Why not just wear a tutu.
Hammers are for carpenters. Drop your unicorn wand and pick up some axes and a sword. Warhorn because real men sound off.

2700k, 16gb, 570SLI – in other words, nothing special
turn off reflections (makes it harder to see underwater for escaping thieves), shadows to low and it’s 60fps all the time
the main thing is my computer is completely clean, very barebones

Only a WvW player has 2000 hours played but still broke, no map completion or legendary and still sees FOTM as Flavor of the Month.

The whole discussion is ridiculous.
Guardians can send around aoe stability, aoe condition removal, protection, regeneration, might, aegis, dodge heals, virtues heals, retaliation, the list goes on – and yes, this is all in the same build.
Warriors can give 3 stacks of might and 8s of fury on a 20s cd – traited. And immobile banners for some fixed buffs on 240 sec cooldowns. Swiftness and vigor on warhorn. And they do weakness on enemies. That’s it.
There is literally no comparison in terms of group support.
Compare to auramancer ele, then you might have a basis for discussion.
This is probably the best argument for both a global cooldown on thief abilities to prevent chaining, and a reduction in the effect of haste/frenzy

Focus smokelords, dodge telegraphed attacks, use combo fields. It’s simple.

I can see a dual change to AOE:
- Nerf the damage a bit
- Increase target limit to 10
I think just big dungeons for 10 people would work great in the current PVE meta.
Hell, they could just have raid 10 versions of the current dungeons and fractals.
25 man raiding is dead anyway, 10-man is where it’s at, and it’s not a big difference from 5-man dungeons at that point.
Same gear and tokens though, no gear differences from now, of course.
LoL took a long time to become popular and get the kind of views it has.
GW2 can definitely get there. Right now, it has none of the features enabling twitch viewership, but they are coming and very soon.
Personally I prefer watching GW2 pvp videos – and I think many MMO players from all MMO games would prefer to watch GW2 rather than DOTA or LOL.
MOBA / FPS / RTS are the current esports formats.
GW2 is the only game that can add MMO to that list.
The OP makes excellent points about the state of D/D ele at the moment.
The problem with D/D ele might not be with the ele itself, but really is because of the boons, protection is a major offender here.
33% might just be too high, and it’s a crutch pushing guardians and ele’s into over-bunkering state.
I can’t believe some of the kittening in here.
D/D ele is pretty insane right now.
Granted it’s great fun and not a faceroll, but it’s really not as hard to play as people make it out to be – and it’s far stronger overall than any other class including thief and guardian (though specifically for guarding a point without having to move, guardian is still stronger)
In WvW and PVE with large areas, lots of terrain to use and large groups to AOE, ele’s are literally a god class.

Why do you think they keep nerfing us and buffing warriors? Its because we are awesome. On paper it looks like the warrior gets lits of nice things but they lack build synergy that makes Guardians far stronger.
It takes more skill to play a guardian and if you play it well, you will never lose to a warrior.warriors are actually considered a lower tier class by the pro’s. Guardian is floating near the top.
Because its blatant class favoritism. Warrior was designed for its high dps, but has the ability to be more tanky than a guardian and pretty much heal just as much as we do given that they trait and gear for it, just as we have too.
Every sPvP guardian will run a cookie cutter AH hammer/staff build and just hold a point, it takes no skill.I’m sorry but you don’t seem to have a complete grasp of the Guardian class if you think we are just a water down warrior. A warrior’s superior innate defenses in no way compare to a guardian’s active defenses when played by a skillful player. Personally, one of my favorite classes to fight in PVP is a warrior, because they don’t have nearly the survivability and escapes of some of the other classes. If a warrior engages they are pretty much stuck in a fight to the death, which if you can avoid their burst, means it will be theirs.
Um, warriors has plenty of defenses. Shield, Enduring Pain, Sword for mobility, Warhorn for mobility, Rush (although the animation glitchs a lot). As for dodging their burst thats just a silly argument, because u can dodge a guardians burst/dps just as easily lol. All the while your busy dodging a warriors hundred blades for example, he can just pull out of the fight, pull out rifle and range you to death.
You must be a terribad guardian, or have no clue about warriors, to believe this.
I play both guardian and warrior, in tpvp and wvw, and guardian is basically in every way an upgraded warrior.
Sure you can stomp the occasional newbie with a frenzy 100b once in a while, or get a big kill shot crit. But guardian can mow down 10 of those newbies without breaking a sweat, and do amazing group support and healing that puts the warrior to shame at the same time.
And for fighting good players, guardian>>>>>warrior, by far.

Durable melee?
Just reroll to guardian, which is basically a durable melee warrior. Or use your ele as melee D/D, it’s far durable than a warrior can ever be.
Warrior needs regen, protection and proper condition removal to withstand the melee damage churn.
bleed was nerfed because of pvp. can you imagine all the poor thiefs going stealth and dieing of bleeding??? this is unacceptable:)

In my opinion, this topic should be handled like this: quickness for everyone or nothing.
Plain and simple. Having double speed on some guys and not on others is just lame in the context of this game (fast paced combat) and quick stomp should be looked at.
Don’t remove quickness, just remove quick stomp and give quickness to everyone (necromancers, elementalists and guardians) and the complains will stop inmediately.
That makes no sense.
It’s like saying every class should have aegis, protection, equal numbers of knockdowns, and a pet.
The classes don’t all need the same abilities, they just need to be balanced against each other.
And right now the strongest classes are the ones without quickness, so giving them quickness would make things worse, not better.
It’s when there’s a crapload of players + mobs + explosions etc and the engine doesn’t render some of the ones who showed up most recently.
So in wvw in the bigger fights, people appear much closer than the max distance from which you should see them coming.
Culling is what happens instead of lag/stuttering/freezes in other MMO games where anything large scale causes FPS to drop heavily.
Quickness is needed for eg warriors to be viable.
But this is exactly why quickness is a bad thing. It’s part of what pigeon-holes certain professions to one spec.
Maybe reduce it to 50%, halve the cooldown.
This would have to be done along with other class changes to counterbalance the loss of burst, including a major toning down of bunker builds.
It sounds like it’s a general thing they’re fixing with the engine.
Can’t wait to see the results in wvw and in the big DEs

You guys are wrong.
Let me explain.
First of all, you need to compare:
power with 0% crit vs condition damage
not [power + crit + crit damage] DPS vs [condition] DPS
You can see why, right?
In one case, you’re using 3 stats maxed to achieve higher DPS than the other case where you are using 1 stat maxed out.
Second of all:
Condition damage ignores toughness.
This is a very big deal. Whereas direct damage is heavily mitigated by armor (toughness + defense), condition damage is not, allowing it to slice through heavy armor the same as light.
So again, instead of comparing direct damage on a paper target to condition damage on a paper target, compare them on a high armor target.
Remember – 0% crit to keep it fair.
1 stat.
Condition damage is already very strong, and allows bunker stats to be mixed in.
For people to go power+crit+critdamage, they need to be total glass cannons, and as such will spend a majority of their time in downed state.

Should be 10% max
Also, frenzy should be 50% rather than 100%
3% is broken
It might be better to just make it something completely different, like +60% adrenaline gained at max, or 30% reduced cooldown on burst skill – both of which would also fit well with the tree.
Another idea to increase the viability of warriors would be to make it a 1-60% chance of gaining protection for 5 seconds after using a burst skill.

You’re asking for us to need to grind gear to be viable in sPVP. You’re asking for dedicated healers. You’re asking for specifically the things to make the game worse, to make it like old boring games like WoW.
The reasons you liked those things in WoW are nostalgia, because it was your first MMO, your first high. It will never be like that again, even WoW is not like that now. It’s a bot-infested, unbalanced, unplayable mess.

Go play something else if you want those things, or adapt to the new in GW2. It’s your choice.
Well I started off thinking the lore of Tyria etc was pretty bland. I mean dragons and undead, kind of the staples of the high fantasy genre.
But then I realised, all high fantasy is like that, and GW2 actually has more to it than just that, so it’s really no different from any other high fantasy franchise in that sense.
I do think it could do with more emblematic heroes (let’s face it, Logan is a fail xD) but it’s got a pretty good background to add them within the continuing story of GW2 for example
I haven’t really noticed an increase (maybe I’m just not seeing the right posts) but I think Arenanet’s overall communication has been the best I’ve seen from any MMO company, the second being Rift’s developers.
Sure we want some stuff (like the sPVP stuff I keep going on about) but they are really quite transparent about their plans and where they are atm.
I even just saw something on Reddit where they go into the technical side of the GW2 engine and all the programming aspects etc, very open and a really nice report by Arenanet’s actual programmers, the kind of guys you normally never hear from directly.

The key element as you’re getting from what people are saying is the when.
We needed this stuff months ago, Arenanet has been focusing on PVE stuff for the last few months and it shows.
Time to take all those devs away from PVE and really push up the PVP side of things.
Hijack the entire programming team, **** PVE, **** dungeons and events, and get cracking on PVP which really is the key to the game
Seriously, finish it off this weekend, roll it all out on Monday. Break every schedule to do it

I haven’t really bothered to go for ascended rings.
The reason is two-fold:
a) I like fractals but I don’t want to do them a million times
b) I figure they will soon be available from both karma/normal dungeons and wvw tokens
I’ll just wait, it’s not like the minor overall stat difference between my exotics and a couple of fractals rings is going to change anything for me in pve or pvp
The constant movement is what makes it. Dodging, casting while running, all the mobility moves… it all adds up to making for a great pace of gameplay.
Going back to standing still casting, you realise how dull and stodgy the combat in older MMOs is.
Boon removal might just be the solution to the bunker issue
Indeed maybe just reduce the ICD on sigil of nullification to 4 seconds or something to see how it affects the meta
