That wiki post is very obviously wrong
I do think proximity has a bearing on it, I am sure damage does also, but I notice dodge rolling away usually doesn’t help, and that wearing a shield doesn’t help often at all
There might be some element of direct damage vs condition damage in the equation, and there might be a simple fact that different mobs have different aggro rules
Either way, it is by no means a simple affair, and it is a question that has not yet been conclusively answered
It’s called “Asking for a group in Lion’s Arch.”
this
getting a dungeon group takes 30 seconds in LA
we need ratings etc to differentiate players and teams by skill levels
Rift PVP is boring and simplistic
WoW PVP is broken, ugly and unbalanced
SWTOR PVP is just a joke
TSW Tera let’s not even go there
Yes, GW2 does have the best MMO PVP, with by far the best balance and meta.
However this is not a major improvement, other MMOs have awful PVP.
It’s time to compete with other game types and get to proper esports success. GW2 can do it, it just needs to focus on balance and adding spectator mode etc.
Thousands are waiting on the sidelines waiting for esport features
Paid tournies, custom arenas, but also spectator mode and some other tweaks.
League of Legends took a good 10 months to put all that stuff in, and you can see where that game is now.
The key is to make sure the meta is balanced and works well to make for good viewing.
not playing at 4am or specifically following you around perhaps
Just levelled a new char on Piken in the last week, it’s one of the lower populated servers
You still meet people every couple of minutes in every lowbie zone
They are usually terrible, which leads me to think they are newbies to the game
The main thing is removing the exploit that gave an advantage to 1 server over the others.
This is a huge improvement, let the results speak for themselves now.
It’s actually half karma 80 exotics and some old pieces of primeval (which I have now replaced with karma pieces)
I think the primeval skin is ok when you hit 80 exotic level, but once you get your karma pieces for heavy, stick with those skins, they are nicer
work harder for your $
the necromancer themed light armors (there are 5 or 6 sets of them) are beautiful, detailed and just totally kitten
medium armor is mostly meh I think, I like dredge, pirate and that witch hunter one, but lots of medium armor is just leather clothes, which is weak
heavy armor is just insane, some of the best I’ve ever seen
1. Mesmer portal: makes mesmers too essential on K
2. Bunkers: too important to the control meta
3. Stealth rendering: makes unique mechanic more annoying and less skillful
GW2 has the best MMO PVP out there. It’s great, honestly. Just needs a few tweaks and we are ready for spectator mode and esports.

Any game can burn out your hardware.
Do some maintenance on your PC every once in a while. Once a year is plenty.
Come on, you know you can make this real!
If you can’t avoid a 3 second cast where the warrior is kneeling down in a hilariously obvious manner, you need to have a cup of coffee and wake the kitten up.
Santa Dragon for xmas event.
It’s 5 buttons guys.
5 buttons. Is it that hard to get used to just 5 buttons?
It’s so that people can refer to “guardian greatsword #5” and it’s always in the same place.
And
It’s only 5 freaking buttons.
Do you really need to arrange the buttons so that when you weaponswap your gap closer is always on 2? Is it so hard to keep track of what weapon you’re currently using?
If it’s that hard, your mind is going to be blown when you play an elementalist.

Honestly, the stuff in GW2 is nowhere near as bad as the rampant cheating, botting, etc in other MMOs.
WoW has much worse problems with players DDOSing other teams in arenas and rated BGs, bots all over, and exploits having destroyed any semblance of anything worth anything.

Dunno why you guys still care about rbgs … Most of time you queue wintrade chinese teams at -700 mmr or exploiters/teleport hackers and obviously gms don’t give a kitten.
There is also a popular rbg irc channel where some guys are looking for 9 ppl “ddos run” :
This season promise to be kittening good for drama, since ddos booters are now 100% free/secure and kittening easy to use.
There is also a tons of free hack going on atm like interrupthack, laghack, teleporthack, totem hack, much more XDSay thank you to mmowned and a known hack forum. They both ruined whole WoW PvP.

Just to point out, we can already zoom in and out which is the same as a FOV slider
Its just increasing maximum zoom out that is the request which the recent patch is testing

The truth is that there are some games which are designed to favour the “play more hours → get more gear → win” players.
Borderlands 2 is a very fine example, it is 100% gear-based and that is what everyone plays it for, and there is no shame in that.
GW2 is just not like that.
I agree with the guy above, the game is “too balanced” for some players.
The tight balancing means those who want easymode kills and the feeling of power that comes from “being able to play more hours → get more gear → win” don’t get the satisfaction they get from gear-grind based games.
Just a side-effect of the philosophy of GW2. After that, it’s up to you whether you want a balanced game, or are really looking for a game where no-life’ing it gives you an advantage. No shame in admitting it either way.
For someone who has been complaining about the game for months now, I would have thought you would have moved on to something else?
He needs to earn his paycheck from the fanboy office of another MMO.
Impressive. Crafting really does allow you to level all the way at crazy speed, but you need a lot of past game experience, like the 300 hours you had before your 8 hour sprint
Game is excellent really. Best combat system out there, with best traits and gearing metagame. Great world, very social game, and with better server systems etc than any other MMO, certainly puts games like WoW SWTOR etc to shame.
So many “viral marketers” on this forum.
Go play something else if you’re a gamer who doesn’t want to play GW2, if you want to hang around this forum and try viral marketing tricks, at least be less obvious about it.
Awesome reply on the botting issue!
10k bots banned last week is a great track record, keep it up
Honestly, there is botting in every game out there, and especially MMOs – and Arenanet definitely does more to fight botters than Blizzard.
Guardians are one of the main issues with the current meta. Given how important defensive utility is, guardians have too much of it.
I would say keep aegis and (a bit of) retal on guardians.
Move stability to other professions so stability becomes what guardian is lacking – rather than what they have too much of.
Every game has bots.
Even borderlands, even single player games.
This is just the nature of a small minority of gamers nowadays who cheat as a matter of course.
The key thing to remember is how much worse things would be if these botters gained permanent, game-changing stat/level advantages over other players by cheating – like if they could use higher item level gear to pwn in PVP.
As it stands, all they get is more gold, which translates to more skins. No numerical advantage because the game isn’t gear-driven. And they also gain a ban sword of damocles over their head.
Think about it.
Spectator mode, ladder/ELO rankings need to be added.
The GW2 meta is good, very e-sport viable.
Reminds me of League of Legends a couple of months in.
It’s an interesting idea, though in its simplest form it would cause a lot of problems. Possibly a very good starting point for discussion though.
Perhaps something like:
- Outnumbered on point flips point to neutral after 6-10 seconds
- After that, to regain full point control works as it does now
That way, bunkers can’t prevent a point being contested indefinitely, but the outnumbering team doesn’t gain full point control until they can actually kill the bunker.
woah woah just saw this:

GuildWars 2 DOTA / MOBA Gameplay In The Works
Was my dream a premonition?
Stupid, but true. Games with gear progression are all about overcoming a lack of skill by spending more time playing. It’s all about outgearing content and outgearing players. Otherwise, it serves no purpose aside from dictating the order in which you have to do things, and the average number of times you have to do thing x before you can do thing y.
This.
People need to read this clearly and understand it. Break the spell.
I discovered that the kind of players who want to feel superior to others because they can spend more time grinding gear that has higher stats also like to post on forums of games that do not cater to their particular proclivities complaining that there is no endgame.
I also discovered that the people who play to get more skilled over time keep on playing and don’t need the crutch of out-gearing someone in order to pwn them.
C’est la vie.
Meanwhile I’m running the game just fine on my netbook while travelling.
On my desktop I’m stable at 70fps with relatively old hardware, no OC, and regular caviar black hdd.
GW2 actually runs very well.
Average age of GW2 player seems pretty high, and lots of women are playing – the overall impression is of a game for mature players.
Yes. MMOs in general are among the best value for money of all types of games.
Compared to other MMOs, GW2 has been the best value for money.
The only game that compares in value for money terms is LoL.
I want my dream to become a reality in GW2.
Is it possible?
In my dream, when my team destroyed their barracks we gained 25 points, their archers lost their veteran armor and HP, and their runners stopped spawning from their Asura gate. This took us to 385 points.
We then destroyed their asura gate for 100 points, while they desperately defended against our full team and our runners. We lost our elementalist and necro.
Then we got a couple of player kills for 5 points each and won the match. I was the only one from our team left standing. It was glorious.
