Specialization Weapon Idea: All 9 Professions

I am confused about how to read your charts.
Agreed. 0_o seriously confusing.
These things are subjective.
Frankly, coming off of WOW, I’m just glad the armor isn’t on an engine that’s over 10 years old.
shrugs Dailies are a way to promote people coming online each day, and Laurels are a big part of that.
A reworked Marionette would be nice. Though in reflection I was fighting that thing without megaservers, so might be easier now.

Between this and the red envelopes, it’s becoming clear people gotta brush up on basic Chinese culture.
Well I mean, this IS an RPG. If we’re moving away from the conventional levels and loot for progression, then we’re going to have to unlock something as a part of progressing, making our character not necessarily stronger! but more able.
If there was a new gear tier, how would you want it done?
An idea would be to have vertical progression leading to horizontal progression. Like working up new gear that doesn’t make you much stronger, but grants you a unique ability.
Perhaps they could have different effectiveness, like a aviator’s armor making gliding easier, or grants you a unique skill that, while not necessarily stronger, offers some horizontal progression.
Of course this could just be covered by new runes and such, but it’s interesting to tackle the trouble of gear grind other than just not having new gear. At the very least, I’d like something more meaningful than the current Ascended armor.
To be fair it is kind of dissatisfying to have you gear all set up for getting DPS and taking hits, and then realizing most of the fight doesn’t really involve your gear at all, it’s part of the reason i don’t run all zerk. Often your own DPS doesn’t matter as much as surviving to do some mechanic the boss has.
That said I understand their place. Perhaps a change to mechanics to let your gear have more say in the more gimmicky encounters would be nice. Like swiftness allowing actions to be done faster, or something.
Two Problems I Have on the Mastery System

We really should stop treating vertical progression as a dirty word. I understand the gear and level grind associated with it, but it has it’s place.
In this case of masteries, it’s vertical progression that then allows horizontal progression. Levelling an ability so you can have a different, not necessarily stronger ability than those without it. Seems an ideal way for gw2 to have both.
I was thinking about the title, and realized we don’t know what it signifies. Of course, it could just simply mean the Heart of Maguuma Jungle, but I do wonder what else it could mean, at least for conversation’s sake.
Perhaps the literal heart of the dragon, or the core of the jungle from which the tendrils are spreading. Perhaps it’s an artifact or place within the jungle. Perhaps this what Glint left for us, or where it was hidden.
And as a personal hope, it would so cool if we got a legendary called Heart of Thorns. Wonder what kind of weapon that would be though.
I HATE that all Sylvari pc have a built in hyper-joyful mood at all times. What if I want to roll a more serious or moody Sylvari? Hard to keep that in mind when my Sylvari is just glaring around with a dumb smile on. Nit that a young race wouldn’t be largely naive and childlike but kitten , they should ALL be like that.
As title. Nothing too major, just a occasional crash here and there. only one per 2 – 3 hours, but noticable. Figured let you guys know.
I’d give Fractals a try. This isn’t Wow. I’ve found PUG for fractals pretty civil.
the 20 – 30 daily is a bit much though.
Always seemed to me it would be a good idea to do a general “Beastman” race umbrella, so you could have the various animal-esque humanoud races work.
Also, I just really want to play a Kodo. I mean, look at them. They’re godkitten polar bear men. That’s awesome.
Yeah, it’s a headscratcher. Part of me thinks this is just some weird backend problem with currencies that they haven’t fixed yet…
Yes.
Don’t get me wrong, unless you’re Wow, MMOs shouldn’t really focus of Raids. WildStar had that problem. But one raid, with potentially awesome mechanics, for the hardcore, would be nice.
Hell, any new instanced content would be nice. I’d love to see what they’ve learned from open world and living story put into more focused, teamwork-requiring ways.
Honestly, why not have a raid?
On that note: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxmkAoLC6_4
Oh Plague I love you XD
“Let’s go to hell, and kill Satan!”
Eh, it comes with the territory. If there are new classes, there’ll be a big influx of people playing them. I remember Wrath of the Lich King. Death Knights. Everywhere.
Though on that note, it’d be cool if there were NPC reactions to Revenants like Wow did. “What kind of warrior IS that?!” “Wait, I thought that guy was dead…”
… Hard to see the concern.
If they’re below Lvl 80, they won’t have the mastery system, so their level will still be viewable.
And then anyone with a mastery level will clearly be lvl 80.
No problems, really.
Uhhhh I don’t’ know about you, but I’ve played Keg Brawl recently.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Keg_Brawl
Isn’t it still part of the activity rotation?
For dueling? Why not. That or some awesome stadium in the PVE cities.
Honestly, with people running glass cannon builds, then proceeding to get downed all the time, support is far more viable then people make it out to be. DPS is increased when members of the party are, yknow, not downed.
. . . I’ve run world boss so much I genuinely can’t remember lol
LOL I didn’t even know Jungle Wurm had a phase that heals itself until recently.
Words are created by popular usage, not by their proper usage at the time. Metroidvania may not fit some senses of style or even the proper connotations of those games, but its still a generally understood term.
Some people hate the word Blog. Doesn’t stop it being the most widely understood signifier for a “web log”.
knew about the truth of the Sylvari, and witnessed a tragic murder
no kittens given
Man, I get that Raid should definitely not be the focus of their content creation, but at least one big raid would be awesome.
And yeah, there was a word on a call for raid building experience. Might be a clue to future challenging content.
Given my main is a priory member, whom I usually imagine trolling around the library looking at books between living story patches, Lore and Exploration seem the right course RP wise
It’s really hard for me to get worked up for a new infusion as a “gear treadmill”. If someone likes fractals enough to master them, they probably should get a new infusion. Sort of the point, really.
And I mean… it’s an infusion. It makes ascended armor look like a substantial increase in stats. I’m not going to lose sleep over +5 Power, +5 Agony Resistance.
While it’d be cool, I’m not holding my breath. Most likely any new skin set would be held for within the jungle. Which makes total sense really.
Still though. Maybe an update one day….
Honestly, this game is one of the best MMOs I’ve played for Soloing and Pick Up groups. I can just wander around, do my own thing, occasionally joining a group taking down a nearby event.
I see no reason why this would change, or indeed, not get better in the expansion.
…And I dunno, if you really want to play a game 100% alone without going into world bosses, dungeons or the Silverwastes or something… why play an MMO?
There’s nothing intrinsically wrong with gating. frankly, its the key way many games include progression within them. The apt comparisons o Metroid or Zelda was made in an Anet interview. You sometimes need an item or ability to go somewhere or do something in those games, and Anet is using this, rather than gating content by necessitating certain stats.
There seems to be the odd idea that this is somehow withholding content. Which I guess it is, but it massively misses the point. It’s withholding content so you can feel a sense of progression when you obtain it.
It’s no more grindy than beating a dungeon to get a new weapon in Zelda. At least you’ve have a little quest and adventure towards your goal, rather than literal gear grind of doing a raid over and over.
From the blog post:
Because the Mastery training bar completely replaces the experience bar, players who’ve reached level 80 will no longer gain levels but will instead train Masteries. This means characters that have reached level 80 will no longer gain skill points through leveling. Skill points will be added as rewards across high-level content to offset this change.
So I’d assume the Tomes are here to stay, likely rewarded more often as rewards rather than through levels.
Let’s be honest though: customers not spending money on their game isn’t exactly the focal point of developing an expansion. Not a bad thing, just a business looking to remain profitable.
That said, I’m sure there will be stuff for people who continue to play for free. Just won’t be a priority.
Based on the last two day’s info I won’t be getting this expansion and I spend a lot of money on this game!
Then you’ll have spent money, but are unable to get the expansion stuff. I spend my share on Gem Store stuff as well, but I understand the expansion is its own thing.
Not a new word. 0_o and I have no idea what you’re talking about.
As in,
New, Word of the Year
Still have no idea what you mean.
It REALLY needs a change. For a supposedly non-grindy mmo, crafting is an unabashed grind. There aren’t crafting activities or anything, just popping mat after mat into crafting, getting the lvl up.
What about quests to get a new material or blueprint? Maybe Crafting Mastery that nets you crafting levels and lets you craft unique items?
I’d assume they’d still give you SP, they aren’t getting rid of them. frankly, it sounds like with other things rewarding SP, we are likely to get more Tomes of Knowledge as rewards and such.
Not a new word. 0_o and I have no idea what you’re talking about.

With the implication of new masteries around the world, not just in Maguuma, I’d think it’d be safe to say we’ll have at least a minor update.
Frankly I’d just be happy if we had some minor changes show that the undead are beginning to wane, maybe change the amount of mobs, have them perhaps hunker down in one area of Orr as a last stand.
A “Retaking of Orr” patch after Heart of Thorns’ could be cool, once the pact has regrouped and dealt with the immediate Mordey threat.
And yeah, they really need to work on phasing in this game.

Legendary Weapons - an appeal to ArenaNet

PLEASE ARENA NET:
Do not make a weapon with such a cool name such as Bifrost, and have it resemble rainbows rather than a cool ice weapon.
If you’re going to make rainbow and silly weapons please make alternatives that are more serious and focus on detail.
Alright, Bifrost is the one exception to the “silly legendary” problem IMO.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bifröst
It’s based on the rainbow bridge. While it could have had a slight more serious design, rainbows would likely always be a part of it. Frankly I think they did a good job encorportating that design with the legend.
On reflection, legendaries should really be based on, yknow, legends. Maybe an Excalibur style sword, or an Elder Wood Staff.
Base stuff on Tyrian legend as well, like the Flameseeker prophecies.
Imagine a shield forged from the bones of Zhaitan, or something.
Mastery seem like Rep by a different name

The way I’ve heard it described is like Metroid/Zelda equipment unlocks, you get abilities that let you do things like access new places and abilities as you explore or do certain activites.
So it seems like it will manifest in many ways.
While a really good point, that is a really obnoxious post 0_o
Well to be fair, we don’t really know anything. It was just announced.
Guild wars 2 HOT is coming out NEVER.
the end.
I don’t want anyone to be able to do X because in my mind there is a chance it might lessen my experience doing Y.
Pretty much. With a good dose of, “Jerks aren’t jerks, gameplay with potential be used by jerks make jerks.”
Frankly I’ve heard very few good reasons to not have mounts.
Best argument I’ve heard is it invalidating swiftness mechanics, which I can appreciate. There are ways around that, but yeah, it’d be tricky to build around. Not that Anet couldn’t do it, and make it work.
The “WP, therefore, no mounts” argument has some flaws. Lots of GW2 is just running around. Mindlessly popping swiftness to get from point a to point b doesn’t seem particularly helpful or skillful.
There’s another argument for WPs being much worse than Mounts, but not getting into that.
Having been running Silverwastes, I actually wished that had at least area-locked mounts, so you could cavalry charge to bases in need of help. Especially since that area has few WPs.
Other than that, it usually devolves into “I don’t like it, therefore we shouldn’t have it” arguments.
And I dunno. I’m not that big into mounts, but I see little reason they shouldn’t be in the game. Just have it rely on existing swiftness, and greatly disincentive using them in battle or certain areas.

Of the few things I miss from wow, one of the big ones is /train.
Plus, there are few games not improved by taunts.

So this thread is literally about -two- legendaries, The Dreamer and Quip.
Considering, that just few posts above you i mentioned three others, you might want to rephrase that. And those are not all – there’s also the Minstrel (while ok in itself, it doesn’t fit most focus using classes at all), the Lover (okay for a ranger, but not so okay for a warrior), Meteorologicus (again, not bad by itself, but kudos to anyone that can fit it into a bigger character/class theme).
It’s not just a few joke skins, but a bigger problem that touches most of the legendaries.
Don’t forget the Moot. It’s a disco ball. A disco ball in Tyria. WHERE DOES DISCO FIT I—- cuts off suddenly
Plus it really lost dignity when it update with ribbons. Feels like these should be a different classification of joke weapons not Legendary weapons.
My gut says August. My hopes say April. Cynicism says November-December.
