New weapons for heart of thorns expansion

I’m still resistant to the Staff as a melee weapon theory. If we’re using a traditionally non-melee weapon as a one, why is the idea of an existing aquatic weapon as a melee weapon so far fetched, especially when it clearly has spear qualities in the video?

It really does seem they’re being overly coy with what is actually in this expansion. Hell, they were secretive about it even being an expansion for, like, no reason.
There are some things that will be built up that won’t be in the initial expansion but will require it for sure though. Like how Deathwing wasn’t fight able until the last patch of Cataclysm, we aren’t fighting Mordremoth until some Living Sotry patches set up the battle.
Broken? Always seemed to me that it was utterly controllable by the player, given it’s only as broken as how well you control the camera with your mouse. Never really had a problem. No more than any other MMO.
Given the history of GW1—I created a black human female named Kormir (and will dress her appropriately)—and play/act as best I can to this video.
PlaqueofGripes did a Guild Wars video.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention XD
There will be 1 spec/prof at HoT release

He only way this might work is, if you refuse the specialization, you still get a new skill and ability in line with vanilla version of the class. Like recommitting to your original class.
It’d be nice to at least put more character slots in the Deluxe edition. At that point, you’re clearly committed enough to the game that you’ll roll a whole new character.
I’d like to see more alternatives to the more whimsical and serious version of legendarily. For example, while Quip is a legendary, lots of people don’t use it because it’s more whimsical nature may not work with the character they have.
I like Bifrost, as a staff elemental main ,but would like an alternative to the rainbow projectiles, as it doesn’t quite fit my character.
More options is all I want really.
I’d like more stuff like Sunrise, Twilight and Eternity; just immensely recognizable and unique weapons that I’ve never seen in other games.

Doing a simple arithmetic rule:
8 classes —-————- $50
1 class —-—————— XX=6.25, if they want to round it up, ok, lest go to $10.
So over $10 i will consider it an scam.
Other thing is that we’ll buy it as a caprice or fancy stuff, even if it is overpriced. But just to let you know: even if it is and it is called an “expansion”, it is not too much content and it shouldnt be prized like that.
This may be the biggest logical fallacy I’ve seen in a long time.
For comparison, the digital deluxe of original GW2 included:
Suit of Legacy Armor
Mithril Box
10 Experience Boosters
Summon Mistfire Wolf Elite Skill
Miniature Rytlock
Golem Banker
Chalice of Glory
Tome of Influence
Not to mention the Rytlock statue that came with the Collector’s Editon.
What would you like to see?
For my part, it’d be cool to see a jungle themed elite and, for the love of god, I want a Revenant Rytlock figure!
My guess is they may so it the way Wow introduced the Death Knights, a situation with a lot of parallels. Have a seperate, more accelerated story to justify their appearance amongst the other professions.

Copied and elaborated from another thread because it bears repeating.
Wow’s latest expansion is $50 US, so that seems to be the maximum you could get away with, though I doubt it will reach that level.
Honestly, anything between $30 and $50 seems realistic, bearing in mind that this will be a full retail release alongside the usual download. The price of retail alone would make a price of $20 or less pretty questionable from the business perspective.
Bear in mind that Guild Wars’ value proprotion has always been a buy-to-play model as well, you aren’t paying for subscription ,and aside from gem store purchases, development costs come from somewhere.
I’d bet on 35 – 40 dollars.

Ingeneer confirmed as new class?
I’d hope spring, more likely summer, though I’m prepared for holiday 2015 in case.
Looked up hype train on YouTube.

To be fair, the whole New PVE thing got lumped together. For all we know it could include raid content. They did say group content would be a big part of it.
Will tomes of knowledge still exist in HOT?

I can’t see why not.
There are multiple examples of spears/lances in that trailer. It’s pretty safe to bet its a new weapon.
Bare in mind, there are also new class/weapon combinations in that trailer not directly addressed in the presentation. They seem to be keeping some secrets

Ok this helps a lot, :s though this should be right on the main website not buried in faqs. This is pretty important value proposition stuff right here that’ll determine whether lots of people will get this expansion.
Man this should have been IN THE PRESENTATION. Lots of confused people right now. XD this helps though.
I’m moderately hyped for this new stuff, but the really important questions were not addressed.
How will this affect the Living Story?
How much will it be, or even, is this a boxed expansion or an online gem store purchase?
When is it coming? Even a basic timeframe would be ok.
Grind-free philosophy is one thing, but have they seen the crafting and ascended item grind? Though with precursors finally being easier to get, this may change.
And while I didn’t expect to be addressed today, there is the niggling problem of Zerkers. The fundamentals of stats sorely need a tweak.
At this point, it might be cool but I still have no idea how this thing will really work, and how I’m getting my hands on it. Currently holding at “it’s a thing that might be cool”.
1. We have no idea if it even is an expansion.
2. We have no idea if it’ll be free or not.
3. You’ll need to watch the official announcement for any real info.
Guild Wars 2 is cancelled, Heart of Thorns is the name of the Patch that transfers all existing players to WildStar.
Man I just REALLY want a house. Part of it just because I love the idea of housing in general in video games. and frankly, well, everyone else is doing it. It’s one of the main things that draws me away from GW2 to be honest.
Lol when I saw this my brain thought up this:
All DPS GONE, ALL PLAYERS NOW HEALERS.
ZERKER PROBLEM SOLVED.
GUILD WARS 2 CANCELLED
ALL HAIL SUPER ADVENTURE BOX
Leaked script for presentation:
“And so, here at ArenaNet like to go beyond the other MMOs in scope and scale. Today, we bring the world of Heart of Thorns into physical reality!”
CUE THORNS ERUPTING FROM PEOPLE’S COMPUTERS
…..
Seriously though, an Apple style “we’re releasing something today” would be cool. Not the whole kitten ed expansion-thing but maybe some precursor patch.
I’m pretty cautiously optimistic, but man, if this presentation doesn’t go well, or worst, this turns out to massive letdown XD. I’ll be less let down and more ready to laugh and ensuing salt.
So it’s finally time for the PAX presentation. Here’s a good time to place your ideas of what will happen, XD so you can say I told you so later.
Extra points if you go all out and make, I dunno, a bingo card or something.
My personal bets of the the top of my head are:
- It’ll be an expansion but will be called something else because if some weird twist they’ve put in the idea of expansion
- Fishing
- Some form of housing, at least Guild Halls.
- No new races
Housing itself can be a contentious issue, but we can at least agree the current implementation of the Home Instance could be improved.
With WildStar and Old Republic having more robust player homes, and WoW implementing Garrisons, and the tease of Heart of Thorns, it would nice to see something added to GW2 for competitions’ sake at least, if not necessarily the same way.
Of course Guild Halls are one solution, and we are likely to see this at some point. I’m looking specifically at the player-specific Home Instance, whether it be a full housing system or a more robust version of the areas we currently possess.
I would love to see a new level of cosmetic item specifically for home instances. After all, GW2 is a very cosmetic game. Maybe a new statue or something you can place, that sort of thing.
Function in some way would also improve the worth of the Home. Currently my main usage of the Home are the few resource nodes I’ve obtained. I wouldn’t necessarily say to have trading posts and such there, which is the fear of some that this would cut down of socializing that woul normally occur in the cities, though that said, that hasn’t stopped things like the Captain’s airship pass.
Having the home key into story may make more sense. Perhaps have the home area of the Pact Commander be a bit of a meeting place for supporters. Perhaps our homes get damaged in some terrorist attack, raising the stakes, necessitating repairs of home, or even moving our home instance to a camp closer to the jungle.
But some change to the Home Instance would be nice, especially with the potential of expansion or at least some large content drop in the future.
Honestly, as an Animal Crossing lover XD I’d be down for some robust homes complete with furniture and trophies of past exploits adorning the walls. I’d love to see stuff like achievements and story completion result in bobbles and plaques in your home, giving a “physical” aspect to those achievements.
But others are less enthused on the idea of homes. But at the very least, the current implementation of the Home Instance could use some changes. What do you think?
World Boss Timers almost exclusively. A nice chill way to earn money, fight some bosses, chat with the people, XD you get some hilarious conversations during pres or waiting for spawn.
I dunno, I always find that the leeching problem is blown way out of proportion. Leeching happens for sure, but its bound to happen with some events anyways. XD Just deal with it, as long as there are MMOs there will be leechers. I honestly have no problem if someone just shows up for a boss after a big event and gets loot regardless. It happens.
As for pres, its less about leeching and more that its pretty unclear where the pres actually are. I’ve had countless times when people on chat genuinely don’t know why a boss is coming up, and I have to explain pres and where they are. A more prominent indication of precursor quests and how they directly affect boss appearances would really help.
Stuff like Golem’s crates and the safe hill with Shatt are such blatant exploits that I have no idea how its been allowed to keep happening. It’s a shame: Golem is actually really fun if you do it “properly”. It genuinely makes me question how attentive they are at testing these things.
And yeah, Fire Ele needs to be more substantial. It’s always a 15 – 30 min wait followed by a crazy easy boss.
In generally, some tweaking towards higher HP for the bigger zergs would be nice. Make it so we need to really work our DPS to down a boss. I actually liked the Dry Top Giant for that reason: it took a considerable effort to take it down. Not necessarily that extreme, but make it harder to take down at least.
I remember one particularly bad Giant Wurm run where it went into the phase where it starts healing itself with Husks. With the massive zergs that come out for that boss I HAD NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE. Some extra HP supplemented with more of those waves would actually be interesting.
In general, just adding an extra step to the usual zerg is all I ask. I actually really like Shadow Behemoth for that reason. A fairly easy (which i find acceptable for a lower level bosses, i dont expect a super hard fight at that level) but has the portals which adds a little variety.
That said, its a bit hollow to complain too much. I like the fact that these world bosses just exist, with massive groups comes a lot of fun in public chat. I’ve had lots of fun just chatting before and during the events. And its great to have these reliable ways to get loot and still be very social with the large groups.
LOL After playing Destiny, or hell, lots of other MMOs or games with loot, I’m hard pressed to complain about GW2’s loot.
There are easily sought ways of getting good loot, doing world bosses, fractals and so on. And hey, you can BUY stuff y’know. Gold is easy to get if you put enough time in. This game makes it painfully clear how to get the loot you want, either by RNG or buying it.
Only egregious problem might be legendaries, but then, it really mostly the precursors that need fixing, and they are LEGENDARY, they should be hard to get I guess.
Gotta say, being forced to use the whole outfit seems like an afont to the idea of customizing your character. Like, I get stuff like the chef or witch costume, they’re clearly a full costume. But I want to use parts of the other costumes, not be forced to don a completely different outfit that I had no say in.
Eh. As long as there are two people still in an MMO, one will be getting credit for something the other guy did.
It’s a reality if these games, hell, it’s a reality of life.
I’d just say deal with it. So long as we’re dropping bosses, it shouldn’t matter.
Honestly for THAT amount of work, another otherwise unobtainable Legendary would be cool.
Of course, it’d be another Greatsword.
I’d trade Crafting for Mounts. No joke.
Serpiously though, the major problem is that last 400 – 500 often being prohibitively expensive, and even then it’s most jsut for ascended stuff that isn’t super necessary to play the game.
But it’s just a drag to just robotically look up a guide and craft what you need to level crafting. Feel counter to GW2 general levelling experience.
Perhaps you could have little crafting quests that let you level more like the main story, getting mats and crafting specific items for a given quest giver. Seems like that suits GW2 more.
OH MAN just thought of a good one.
-Remove Berzerker/Rampager specs.
Would honestly be interesting if the rampant min maxing was suddenly forced to diversify.
Yknow what would be fun?
QUEEN JENNA HAS BEEN DEAD THE ENTIRE TIME.
Some Mesmer, presumably Anise, maybe has hid this fact, maybe because they are looking for the proper heir in the meantime.
Not bulletproof in the least, but it’d be a fun little twist.
When we use a waypoint, what is the character actually doing?
Waypoints clearly exist in universe, they aren’t just a contrivance of gaming.
Do we use some unmentioned device? Do we just think of a location and the waypoints pick up on it? In universe, is it simply a waypoint to waypoint transportation, and us using it from any location just a contrivance for the sake of gameplay?
With Lion’s Arch in bad shape and slowly being rebuilt, I sometimes look over the current city and wonder what the future of the city is.
If you were to rebuild LA, what would you do?
A more militaristic Lions arch would make sense, with more walls and defences. After being attacked, and with Elder Dragons causing trouble, I could see a more defensively minded city erupt. Plus that actually opens up some lore ideas, concerns of greater military power being to present in a city that’s supposed to be free.
It’d be neat to see them building around the remains of Scarlet’s drill, turing it into a trophy of victory, and maybe have some memorial for the people lost in the battle.
I like the idea of different districts having a new flair. Like you could have one section all decked out with Asura tech, and another with the plant growth of the Sylvari. I like the idea that, with this free city being rebuilt, all manner of races will be providing support in their own way.
I’d throw up two middle fingers to the often irrational haters and add mounts and housing.
And shockingly the game prolly would not be any worse for it.
To be fair, Anet has said (forgot where) that they’ve had some problems with instancing, which is why have things like My Story events supposed to take place in pre-LS Lions Arch, taking place in the ruined one.
I suspect that it may take more substantial content drops, maybe an expansion, or at least more time, to let us have instancing like that.
I think it’d be cool if we at least there’s a bit of advancing in the retaking of Orr, even if not completely cleansed. Maybe a new, bigger fort on the east shore to show a greater control of the area.
I’d like to see Orr looking a little Astehtically better. I get it’s an undead area, but it kind a sucks come out of the colourful areas while levelling into the drab ugliness of Orr.
Maybe we can see the Pact building out., new roads, and wreckage cleared. With the cleansing, maybe we can see the odd patch of grass and pristine waters starting to reclaim the surface.
Or maybe ol’ Mordemoth can show his power there. A huge area without its Elder Dragon overlord? Might just send a few vines into the area. A touch of green might actually spruce up the greys and browns of Orr.
Actually, that would be an interesting way to do mounts. It could allow the game to still rely on abilities and buffs for movement speed. But the mounts could simply increase the time the buffs take affect.
Could even make it so the cost is that, if you get off the mount or get drawn into combat, you immediatly lose the buffs.
All these things said, it’s a bit off when I see those tell tale blue symbols for fallen characters and then people say DPS ONLY. Clearly SOME support is good, making a group less prone to being downed means your DPS won’t lose some members, especially in settings where you aren’t in a Zerg.
It’s just an after effect of the non trinity mmo. If there are no roles, everyone is basically some class of DPS. That said, support has its place, you just have to be more attack minded as well.
I feel like doing somethign in incentivise healing would help though. Honestly, rethinking the Last Stand/Revive mechanic would help. Death has little consequence, as enough people standing nearby usually ensures a revive. Perhaps you could make it so reviving is actually fairly slow and ineffective until you have a decent amount if healing power.
I really think a lot of it is just because it’s a more passive way of helping a party. Seeing a big red splotch of damage numbers is a more obvious indication of “strength” than the green hovering over your party. Healing isn’t as obvious as “you healed for x health”, but in a passive way that less people have been downed, helping your DPS overall, not directly.
But things said, I’ve seen people with berserker gear who really aren’t using it well or get caught in a bad situation. When people prioritize power over survivablity and support, the odd support can actually buff that potentially glass cannon build. a good support, healing and removing conditions, canreally help in those circumstances.
Same here. Did not get the item needed.
“E” might have nothing to do with the character’s real name and just be there to throw us off.
Whoever it is, they’re likely going to be the fifth member of the new Destiny’s Edge. Since they’ve already got a charr, a norn and two humans, E is most likely an asura or sylvari. I’m betting asura; probably someone who knew Scarlett while she was attending the three colleges.
You make a good point. Reading that, I expect a plot twist and it will be…
C"E"ara.
[Dramatic music]
XD the worst part is, that’s just dumb enough to be absolutely believable.
smokes pipe
All things in the world one day end.
looks off thoughtfully into distance
Eh to be fair, I find them just kind of a cute couple.
Though anet is pretty fond of the lesbian route. One more and XD they’d better throw in a gay couple just so it isn’t super obvious they’re into teh yuri.
Honestly though, it’s either just some character development or they plan to kill off one of them for drama. Either way shouldn’t be a big deal. Just ignore it and kill stuff if you don’t like it.
