i have 7 80s fully geared in exotics, was a bit of an altaholic on the way to endgame.
My biggest problem i guess is survivability, i get going full zerk for Tempest and other power builds but i like utility/support over just pure dps.
And i see alot of people saying Staff Ele/Temp is best support/dps for raids, but i just dont feel it personally, they do give out stacks of might well and has some heals but it seems like a mainly DPS oriented class.
Which is why ive been leaning Chrono/mes..

Thats why i am/was looking for the experienced endgame pros/cons for the 2 at max gear, ive played every proffesion up to 80 once atleast.

So just keep a bunch of tomes on hand and hope i always need the same stats., ?

Hi, ive just gotten back to gw2 and have gotten through most of HoT, and now i’m trying to gear for endgame fractals/raids.
I’ve never done above lvl 50 in fractals and haven’t gotten a chance to try the Raid yet so i’m unsure of the playstyle needs in those areas.
I’m between my Chrono or my Tempest i use both for my main but gearing both would be time consuming.
So i’m just looking for yalls experience/opinions on the two so i can weigh out my decision!

If you’re an altaholic then my recommendation is to ditch any plans for having a main. Its only going to do your head in, and looks like that’s already started.

Well I’m an altaholic as well but I just play what I want today play what is most appealing to me that day so as for a solution you can choose a character whenever you play and make that character your main for the day or until you get bored ( no strings attached )

I love your “main for the day” idea, definitely a great approach to this problem!

I’d refer all of those “Help me pick my (Main/Profession/etc)” posts that come up every other day to these 2 reply’s, definitely great advice and i think it’d help alot of people in the constant battle for character commitment!

Well, i know for a fact that im not the only one with this problem.

1. Like/hate something about almost every class.

2.Can’t commit to one character to get that “main”.

3. Every time i do think i find a main i die, or get owned in sPvP, or something stupid to make me hate the class. (temporarily)

4. Find my self sitting at the character selection screen not knowing what to play.

5. Love a learning curve but want to be the best at everything. (But need a commitment on a character to get anywhere near that)

Several other points i could make but eh,

I do have my race selected, and a couple professions im not deeply interested in,

Ranger

So, i guess my actually question is, has anyone else with similar problems found a way to stop? Or am i just going to have to choose one whether i end up disliking it or not? (to actually get anywhere?) i have 1400 hours played and my only real personal achievement is Dungeon Master/ Master crafter/FotM completeion, no map completion, no living story completion, barely any PvP/WvW Rank etc..

And doubt it helps but i could put dislikes/likes about the remaining classes, but i know it all boils down to personal opinion.

Before i went on my 10month break my necro was my main, more or less for Dungeons, fotm, and pveroaming
But the class feels different. So i wanted to get a feel for the new changes and the new leveling system thats availible.
But ive come to a fork in the road,
Ele, Engi or Mesmer?
Ele, love the dps, aoe, mobility, i hate thats its not a real complete class until lvl 70ish

Engi, love the whole idea, the functions, the lore, the playstyle but i hate bombs and grenades, and when i used to play if a engi wasnt running 1 of the 2 they were kicked.

Mesmer, my favorite pvp class of gw1 and gw2 but how are they doing in pve/dungeons/fotm?

Yes but for a end game oriented guild for FotM, WvW and Dungeons is gonna want endgane geared “pro-toons” u know?

Back after a long break, all of my characters builds are outdated, old traits, old armor, old all the way around, im going to keep them for birthdays and what not but i feel like i should make a refresh.
What class though? What has changed bassically in the last year? Any info on changes or on what info i post would be great!
What i love/hate about a couple classes

Engi
I loved the turrets, mobility and condition damage theh have. I hated that the best build was just walking in circles throwing grenades, got real old real quick.

Gaurdian
I love to heal/support teammates, but i need solo power too, i find that 85% of my gameplay is solo. Only used a gaurd for wvw in the past, viability?

Necro
Love everything about them, AoE condition spreads, tanky, cool animations, cool armor, but not min/max friendly in pro FotM and Dungeons

Ele,
Love the powerhouse, love the mobility, love the pvp gameplay, hate the armor choices, and hate the time it takes to really get you build going.

Theif,
Is very fun, but everyother 13 year old is a theif, when i used to play they were overpopulated and only used in pvp, whats changed?

Mesmer, very fun in pvp and pve,
Loved basically everything they have to offer, wish there was more offensive elites but well rounded class, lurning curve to start, powerhouse at the end.

Warrior,
I like the versatility and the different weapon builds, but if your not full zerk your not playing with pros,
Has this changed?

Ranger, never really fell in love with ranger,
Any good in pvp?
Still best solo’er?

Im just coming back after a absence for 10 months my build is old, outdated and needs a refresh, I do about 95% pve and 5% fotm/PvP
My goal is a tanky, condition spreading, self sustainable build. Any info, tips and suggestions for gear, runes, traits, attributes, anything is greatly appreciated.
I know the link for my build is missing the armor runes and what not, as I’m doing this on my phone and it was frustrating me.

I haven’t played since 2013, in late December, I now have the means to play again, I had several 80s working on ascended and legendary’s. Has a lot changed in the last 8 month’s? Should I start a new character to get refreshed and etc..? Any information and advice is welcome.

Ur gonna have to open ur own Instance, AC CoF or w.e and invite others, it seems to work fine as long as im the one who opens it.

Depends on how far away his Bday is, days-week(s) maybe a month, id wait and use em as storage, and, I mean unless u REALLY need a empty slot sitten there., but that’s my opinion. U never know what inside.

Ive been actively back in the game for a couple month, But my problem is every time I get a character to 80, I either hate the Utility Skills, Armor,Weapon restrictions, and/or the proff is overused.(Or I get bored lol)

Looking for a main so I can build currency, Leg’s, Ascended and map completion.
Not looking for someone to say oh necro is the best, no go warrior, etc..

Love Mesmer/clones and utility, but hate the standard Shatter and to me personally the Utility skills are for support. and the AoE leaves much to be desired, it is a great class, definetly a ALT if like to keep, just get bored letting my clones fight for you

Have lvl \80/
Engineer, Love the Idea,,Hate the Turrets survivability, and the weapon retrictions(+no real engi armor skins/ Excluding magitech) AND IM TIRED OF GRENADES! and I rearely even see my actually weapons, besides a rifle now and then. BUT if this class ever became more well wrounded, not Swift Kits, Grenadier, rifle and bombs ( which is basically one at a time) With, sad Elites in my own opinon(Great potentional though}

Have lvl \80/
Theif – Guerilla warfare isn’t my style, but I do love the mobility.
and my Charr Theif Armor skins SUCK, which killed it for me

Have lvl [46/
Love Ele, was a favorite in GW1, and I love the Weapon/attunement setup, but its lacking damage, I personally believe that a Heavy armor class deals more (MOST of the time) then any caster class, defeats the purpose to me.
Just the Skills in general need some work.

Necro, Ive played necro has my main in GW1 (besides Dervish) and and, im not really sure. The condition spread it sexy, some of the weapon skills are definelty commendable, but it lacks the uhDeath im looking for., the minions are alright but nothing compared to MM in GW1.

Gaurdian, Love the Support, great class, but its too kitten easy to play. Which bores me.

Have \46/
Warrior, love the armor, (the LB is nice, but underpowered imo,)and it has a lack of the AoE im looking for. Also (overplayed)<- which bothers me and if im not a Zerk, G/s – A/A warrior (besides PvP hammer) I get called a nub and kicked from everything
Other then that Warriors have sexy weapon and armor and actually decent weapon skill set.

- After playng Gw1 ranger, this class just makes me cry, Solo capabilities are great, don’t get me wrong, but 1v1 and pet death is rather annoying.dont want to even start getting me down that path lol

All in All, Looking for constructive criticism and knowledge. Feel free to yell or help me! Like I said ive played EVERYTHING just each class a s sip of what I want, which I haven’t gotten every class to its full potential.
I would love to learn more about some of the classes (necro/Ele/War, etc) so I could try them at full potential.

I would love more engi looking armor as well, all the medium, well most of it looks Ranger/Theif to me

Well, u can increase turret range, to 1500 I believe? And speaking of Viability, I run dungeons all day, I use the Grenade Kit, Rifle Turret(bleedstack) and rocket turret.I do very decent DPS, I can pre plan and set my turrets to where theyl survive. Now on spider AoE which doesn’t even have to hit the turrets to destroy them is getting old. and in CoE where Subj Alpha or w.e insta kills my turrets when I pop them, which is too, getting old.
But u CAN use turrets effectively, u just cant rely on them to do all the work.
They are, what I call, a engineers support DPS. designed to support ur DPS not do it for you.
Destroying Turrets or Picking them up = same cooldown? Definetly needs fixing
And AoE survivability shouldbe worked on but, damage whise, im perfectly happy with my turrets.

I hope that we soon will be able to have access to mobile turrets, either wheeled(or tracked) or maybe a one time(or CD) teleport even? Maybe a Tier 2 or 3 trait, for “pet-like” movement. Or a teleport turrets to current or target location?
any other suggestions, or hopes?

I was in Ascalonian Catacombs, and while I was in p3, transformed into a ghost form, I couldn’t mount my Mortar, cant use while “transformed” ^^

How do u get the new (newish?) backpack skin, or is It a back piece?

Ive gotten bored, i know its my own fault but yea.
I run dungeons most of the time, so im usually running with bomb or grenade kit. Just spamming my bombs until everythings dead.
I know theres alternatives out there, i just have no clue where to start.

Well yes, i agree with both of you. But when we keep seeing the same people do those posts its gets irritable lol. But trying to find an 80 another alt, is very acceptable. Or if indeed ur playtime is limited to a few hours each day.

But Before u post a thread asking, atleast mingle with the classes a little ^^.

They have rockin’ armor though. Does seem to help.

Man, I understand the grouping up and kicking you out after 30-50 mins of time in a dungeon, just because some little kid got his ego hurt. I think Vote Kicks should require atleast 3/5, not a pair of friends kicking the party.
Something should be done to prevent unmoral “kicking”

Try every proffesion, race is a personal choice, has no real effect on game play

No one can honestly tell you what to play, every class has the same core guiding principles, making any of them good in the right hands. And I don’t think having someone tell u what to play, how to play it and what exact skills u should use to be enjoyable.

Your going to have to find that out for yourself,
Tip, for me personally I got every class to level 30, then played around with all of them until I was just always logging onto my Mesmer without realizing it.
Thus, I found a class of my own.

If u don’t enjoy playing it, well for one it will suck, and for two you wont be AS good as if u were loving every minute of it.
If that sounds too tedious, or time consuming, Narrow it down based on Caster/Melee/Ranger or Light/Med/Heavy armor.
Thatl give u a start!
but keep in mind, Every patch changed something, so just because a Zerker Warrior is king of DpS at the moment (<- not saying that’s true) doesn’t mean it will be when u finally get to 80, geared, and set up to go. Every class is going to be OP or Nerfed as some points.

AND everyone has their own opinions, don’t keep everything someone says about a class to heart, usually they just got owned by that class in PvP or wiped in PvE and are in fact raging.

Basic point of all this rambling is, Your going to have to find it yourself, no matter what anyone says, no one can play that class for you.

Enjoy it, Learn it, Master it.

No class is any good at any of those unless u play it right. So find if ur better at casters, ranged or melee DPS, then after that itl narrow down ur choices greatly. So basically ur going have to find something ur good at and going to enjoying playing. Every class can do basic AoE, just some classes AoE is bigger. Every class has those same core skill set, AoE, Support, DPS, Condition, Burst. just some are a little better in those areas. Find something u enjoy, u wont even have realized its become your main, u just login and start playin ^^

Go Mesmer, well liked class, with a taste of some class’s in each weapon set

I usually just run dungeons all day, on my Mesmer. Every single party I get into either has one of each or sometimes im the only non heavy armor person in the parties, Why!?
Because of the Zerk + Heavy Armor combo? I was really thinking about making one but they seem over used, which I know is no reason to not play a class but I hate seeing duplicates of myself everywhere.
I never see necros, rangers, and theifs. (Just in dungeons I see them elsewhere) I love running dungeons but im tired of my Mesmer, engineer is ridiculously boring, (idc bout ur personal opinion in that matter b/c spamming grenades and bombs isn’t my kind of fun) and I don’t want to be holding the dungeon back.
I’d love to roll a Gaurd, but Why are there so many!?

I haven’t seen one good thing about turrents in forums since I started playing, Id LOVE to use them, (I played shaman in WoW) but I haven’t found any builds, they die so easily, my rocket turrent aggros everything, even my healing turrent gets agro? Is there an effective way of using turrents in PvE OR PvP? (I know a lot of my statements are extremely biased, and based off other peoples bias,) im looking for facts or ideas? Im not saying theres NOT a way, im saying I havent found it yet

I just hate how all the medium armor skins look like they’d be a Ranger or a Theif, none of them really look engineer like except Sorrows Embrace armor

Hi, I have just recently started my engi as my second 80, maybe future main, but I have NO clue where to start.
I love the idea of turrents, (loved shaman in WoW) but they seem squishy and not well liked in general.
Kits, flamethrower has more to be desired
The grenade kite works but its boring
Which traits should I put into to level? (mostly dungeons runs after 30)
P/P, P/S, R? I currently use P/S ,its viable but again kinda boring
What should I gear into? Power/VIt/Pres? Power Crit? toughness?
certain skills I should definetly grab? and a dungeon acceptable elite? (or wanted constantly?) <- with Mesmer I got Mass invis at 60+ way after I needed it

Starting a Engi for my second 80, I was wondering which race yall likes for Skins/Armor?
my original idea was a Charr Iron Legion Engineer,fits perfectly in the storyline and etc, but seeing how thatlast until lvl 30, then all the storys merge to fighting the undead, which Endgame race, is most physically appealing? (Human, Charr are my two up and comings)

I use, Octavious Crow on my human necro

So, im a backstory type of person so I like my profession to match my race, I have a Iron Legion Charr Engineer for ex.
So for ranger, the more I looked into it the harder it got.
Sylvari are in tuned with nature (rangers nature skills)
Charr, GW1 had a lot of charr archers
Humans, just kind of a neutral race for any proff
Norn, “the great hunt” their animal spirits?
So, which of these looks good graphically with Ranger? which do yall think fits the most?

So I was looking for a wallpaper and say a guy with a rifle and dagger on one of the pictures, I kept scrolling down to find a Human holding a rifle and it says Commando under him, new class? to be expected soon? Does anyone have any answers for this?

I would personally like to see the FLame Legions and Seperatists point of views and play with them? If my sire is a “sorcerous sire”, why couldn’t I choose to join him? (before we break him out etc.) I just think, some people just want to be bad?

Well, I have a Mesmer, engineer, and Ele. I love my ele, I just don’t want to be overlooked or pushed aside in PvE Dungeons or PvP

I know these posts are repetitive, but still. Everytime I think I find a class I read the forums, probably should quit doing that. Im just looking for something that I can PvE/PvP and do dungeons on. And don’t say everyclass can, because that’s obvious, but what is party friendly? I was going to choose rangers but theyre one of the most unwanted dungeon classes, then I was rolling a Ele, which ive been reading has no DPS/ no survivability? (correct me if im wrong) and then, I roll my necro, which is great, to read that my condition build is about to be nerfed. So with all that said. Any help? I don’t want to play a walk-through class, guardian, and I love a skill curve, to an extent.

Ive narrowed down to 2 mains, Ele or engineer. I haven’t gotten far in the game at all so im looking for something good down the road, for dungeons, wvw and pvp? I like the engineers slot skills but I don’t like the few weapons available. Ele love the aoe, dps and the versatility but feels kinda squishy.

I try to catch all the dynamic events, I also just do the quests 1-5 before I start the storyline, I doubt that effects it but can it? but ill hop over and do anothers questline

I just started playing again, I mostly played GW1, but everytime I get a character past lvl 13, I end up to low level for all the quests and I everything my level or lower is completed.on both my Human Guardian lvl 15,human necro lvl 18. is that common on the human starting area? how do I get past that?

Thanks, amoing to try Mesmer, from what ive done so far its a pretty crazy class, but my second choice sounds like its going to be a Ele or Guardian. I tried a Engineer but I don’t like the fact u have 3 weapons to choose from, Pistol, Rifle, and a Shield.
