Gendarren Fields is now a megaserver. Seriously thinking about quitting. I want a place I can hang out with people only from my server. Bring LA back and don’t make it a megaserver.

Why are you crying? Isn’t a MMO the kind of game where we’re looking forward to see a massive amount of player?

So, I’ve considered posting this for a couple days now. I tend to lurk rather than posting. I realize this will likely fall on deaf ears, but after this weekend, I feel like it really needs to be said.

The attitude on the forums, and the response from the community over the past week (and even before that) is appalling. Every new thread is created to somehow belittle or bash the Anet dev team, or to negatively criticize every aspect of the game (whether part of the new update or not). And it isn’t just in General – it’s happening in PvP, in WvW, in the Profession forums, all of them. Is this criticism valid? Certainly – there are threads created for the exact purpose of collecting that information (and no, we don’t need to keep making 9 different threads on the same topic). But the tone of that criticism has reached an all-time low, and it’s turned the forum into a toxic mess. We’re no longer in the territory of constructive, positive discussion that a forum like this is here to encourage.

The general consensus of the community appears to be one where we expect the dev team to be chained to their desks 24/7, fixing every mistake and catering to every whim of any player who feels like our gameplay has somehow been diminished. I mean, just look around – you’ll find it in almost every new thread that’s been created this week. How does this kind of feedback – the whining, the complaining, the bashing, the lack of patience, the anger – actually help the game or promote any kind of meaningful discussion? Everyone seems to be shocked at the lack of responses from the dev team about issues – is it really any wonder why? If I were them, I wouldn’t respond to anything either, considering the community won’t be happy with whatever they have to say (or even if its what they want to hear).

Have there been problems this week? Certainly. Could things have been rolled out differently? Probably. But in no way does that excuse how this community has reacted. We dare say the Anet team can’t have a bloody holiday weekend to themselves? Of course they can! Who are you to say they don’t deserve one? (And there are threads where this exact statement is happening).

Lets use the Megaserver as an example. For those complaining about the megaservers, have you even considered that releasing this update this week, in this way, is intended? The Megaserver system is a BIG deal. And the devs have said repeatedly that its an ongoing system. I mean, the update isn’t even a week old! How do you expect the dev team to make any meaningful changes to the system to improve things, when they don’t even have enough data yet to determine what those changes should be? It’s called patience, and this community could use a huge dose of it.

Altogether, I know this thread isn’t going to deter the community’s reaction to the new content. I know it’s not going to correct anything. But I’m hoping that, if you support the dev team, their hard work, and their efforts to give us something great to play, you’ll post in here and let them know.

I love the new updates, and I know that I for one can’t wait to see what’s coming for us next

I totally agree. I played about 10-15 hours in the last 3 weeks and I haven’t had any problems with the servers whatsoever. The game runs smooth on all my computers, I still like it since closed beta and I’m always pumped to get to find out what new content I will available for me to discover.

For example I was stumped to discover Lion’s arch destroyed not long ago, this is the kind a living breathing world looks to my eyes. Yes Arenanet isn’t always giving us what we want, they sometimes more viciously try to get into our pockets but overall it’s a great balance and I’m always glad to buy a few gems for unlimited gathering tools, etc.

I hate to say it but yes we suck, most like any other MMO forums in the universe. Still it’s good to take a minute to say it. Arenanet has given us a great MMO and if you have played more then 100 hours and don’t agree then you lie. (IMO if you played that much and you’re level 80, that’s because there was something you liked all that way uh?

I’m now level 60 with about 120 hours logged, not much but kitten I’m always looking forward to log some more time in!

Thanks for your responses, I’m glad to see people are happy with the game now. I come back from mmorpg.com’s forums and it’s full of “GW2 was a lie” and “GW2 is dead” threads. But hey haters gonna hate I guess XD

I’ll surely hop into the game later today, and since my old Reddit guild dropped me I’ll be looking for another big community-oriented guild. But please no crazy “gotta interview you over the phone and ask you questions about your raiding schedule” kinda guilds hehe

You’re welcome

My guild is probably too small for you, from the sounds of it. Though we have 90 people or so, we have a core of about 25 people who are on a lot. A lot of people are just casual members, who log in a couple of times a week.

The core group is pretty good, but if you’re looking for a larger group, there are plenty of options. Also, it depends on what server you’re on, since server transfers are no longer free.

You should try to find a decent guild on your server.

Thanks for the offer! I don’t mind the guild size, I talked about “big guilds” just because I’m used to them hehe but I really don’t mind On what server are you?

To be honest, don’t take any forum responses seriously, including this one. They’re pretty much one sided. Those who don’t like the game generally are on the forums complaining about it. Those who like the game generally are playing it and don’t bother responding on the forums.

Just take note of people’s thoughts on the forum and try it out in game. It may be better/worse than stated.

100% agree with you on this. I learned the hard way of ignoring trolls and QQers on game forums.

90% of forums user seem to be QQers and the other 10% are people in their offices working and waiting for the evening to finally hop into the game (like me). hehe

Ha ha, funny you should say that, I am at work right now but did everything ages ago so I am amusing myself on the forums trying to look busy (don’t want another job close to home time…)…roll on 5 o’clock…

Same here! Except I’m not done working, it’s just that I’m a developer and I have to wait for my app to compile every 4-5 minutes to test my stuff out, so I waste time here while waiting :P haha

Actually there are quite a few “quality of life” upgrades that people tend to overlook. Simple stuff like you can new preview most things like armor and weapons on the trading post…even dyes. Like the WvW siege stuff is now account bound. There were changes early on even to the character’s view. Culling has been removed in WvW. PvP maps have been added.

On top of that, guild missions have been added, and while everyone seems to complain about bounties (though my guild likes them for the most part), the guild rushes are absolutely awesome.

They’ve redone AC (a lot of people complain about that too lol), changed Orr quite a bit (for both positive and negative depending on who you ask), added some new jumping puzzles and quests (like the skritt burglar), changed dailies so you can pick the five you want to do out of 9 or 10…there’s a lot of quality of life issues that have been done. I’m sure I’m forgetting a few too.

This is exactly the kind of response I wanted, these little UI tweaks and gameplay tweaks make the game for me.

AC changes seem neat to be, I did it over and over again and some changes will be welcome.

Thanks for this!

Hi!

Sorry for the open-ended post title, I just wanted to get some info on how the game is currently doing compared to six months ago.

I played since the closed betas and I really love the game but as a casual I don’t always game every night sometimes work just takes all the place in my life.

That’s why I’m asking:

Anything nice came in the last six months? Last time I came here people were QQing because of the Ascended gear grind and because the game was turning into a “normal mmo gear grind”. Which was the total opposite of what’s ANet promised us.

Did this change? Is it better?

If I hop in the game right now, what should I look at? What should I do?

Also bonus question: I’m living in Québec, Canada and I’m on EST timezone. Any nice casual/chatty/fun guild I could join?

This isn’t some rage thread, just an informative one. Everybody is welcome to answer!

Thanks and have a nice day!

Official explanation for temporary content?

I’m wondering if ArenaNet has addressed why content like the new dungeon—which is excellent on many levels—always has to be temporary. Could you imagine how expansive this game could become if the new content that gets added could actually stick around?

I agree, I’ve been off for almost 4 months and I missed quite a lot of awesome stuff it seems. This is sad =(

I like better the game we have now, fortunately. But does anyone remember ArenaNet talked about a lot of “mini-games” like in bars and stuff. Did it get implemented somewhere? Maybe I’m just clueless and don’t know where to look for these activities hehe.

Keg brawl was the only mini-game that made it in for launch. There’s a shooting gallery (locked atm) in Divinity’s Reach, and I’m pretty sure something else in each home city (Polymock? Please?), so I’m sure they’ll get released eventually.

Thanks for the clarification!

Massively: Where Guild Wars 2 Goes Wrong

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

tomshreds.1745

I totally disagree with the article. Want the trinity back? Go play World of Warcraft.

Dynamic events are NOT quests replacement. “Heart” quests are. Dynamic events are DYNAMIC which means it happens from time to time. Yes it could be a bit more dynamic, but in comparison Warhammer totally gets blown away.

GW2 isn’t a theme park like any others. There’s a little sandbox side in it that let’s you decide how you want to play your character and I think it is awesome. This is so refreshing from the pre-defined builds of WoW, but then again just go play it.

As for crafting, some of it is a mess yes. But for the most part, I think’s it’s thousands times superior to other MMOs currently on the market. Salvaging is an awesome idea took from the first version of GW and crafting as a whole is fun (at least for me).

I always felt crafting was worthless in other games, but not in GW2 since it provides me with very good XP.

That’s my two cents. It’s brand new, no you’re not used to it but trust me this is for the better.

Good build for Warriors / mid-game dungeons

Hi,

I’m doing lots of dungeons lately and I’m now level 40. My current build is a bit of anything, I didn’t really know what to pick so I picked what I thought was good but now I’m a bit stuck since I’d like to do more damage in dungeons.

I’m a Norn Warrior and I’d need a build based no shouts I guess (since I hate to work with banners). Shouts seem fun but I just don’t know where to start.

I looked at gw2build.com for fun but these are all for level 80 so I really don’t know how I should setup my traits and skills.

Any suggestions?

Thanks and have a nice day!

The game isn’t dead, it’s just that the MMO playerbase are fickle, whiny, and stubborn.

This is the same garbage that causes post-nerf-patch fluctuations of 1 million users in wow.

even the noted “post-ascended-gear cliff” on this graph is only a month old.

If the old MMO pattern holds true, these people are going to come right back to the game when they realize it’s the best they’ll get to their “perfect fit”, despite the fact that they don’t agree with some of ANet’s actions.

In the mean time, at least where I am, and to the contrary of those who think this game is “dying”, I have to worry about the CPU temps as the sheer number of people playing around me tax my system that much.

Couldn’t have said better.

Making GW2 the right move?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tomshreds.1745

tomshreds.1745

I couldn’t think of a better title but here is quick question for you all.

Do you think ANet would have used their time better by adapting GW1 instead of creating a game that many people appear to hate now (I’m not one of them, I like the game) or have they done the right thing in making a new game?

What the hell? GW2 is ANOTHER game. It’s not supposed to be loved by every GW1 player. This wasn’t the goal. The goal was to make it for a broader aucience and they did it well. Now only future will tell us if the game will run for as long as GW1.

But I’m fairly happy with GW2 to be honest. Some of their recent moves suck IMO but that’s life and we’ll have to deal with them as long as we’ll play the game.

Just don’t listen to the forums QQers, please.

Why is there still not cross-realm zoning?

Uhm, do you have any idea… ANY idea how much work they have to put into creating free content every three months for players to devour, while at the same time working on their real expansions?

Guesting, like Guild Halls, are a pretty large game feature and I wouldn’t be surprised if they pushed it back to release them as part of their first real expansion.

I think you aren’t grateful enough for all the free entertainment they provide you with. You know what would enable them to work faster? More people. Man hours are expensive. You can help them pay the bills by using them Gem Shop. You get cool stuff, and the features you want faster, while they can keep working on the game you love.

It was there on launch and should have stayed. It’s announced since the first betas and it worked well for some time before they seem to have took it away.

Talking about free content, they should focus on fixing their kitten before throwing random content at players. Players like a bugfree environment instead of random content. When trying to throw too much content out, people wanted more and ASCENDED GEAR happened. This is what happens when you try to feed players too much.

Thanks for supporting this suggestion. To the one who says that it needs at least 20 buttons, don’t you know about modifier keys? Like in many many games. For example, when you hold left trigger it changes actions for other buttons.

Making it almost the double.

I use a wireless keyboard and mouse and it does fine, but a game pad is simply another way of making the game more accessible for users. And it needs VERY FEW modifications to implement. There’s tons of great libraries to implement gameplay support for C++

You have to be in the same zone for that to work, and it has to be going into an overflow server.

Any other constraints? Like it must be during the night and you must wear ascended gear to be able to join your friend’s server?

But seriously, be both on an overflow server and the same zone. How is this possible? The only way I see of doing this is to go to lion’s arch?

Blog posts, taking developers’ time? haha. The only way I could see this right would be because ANet makes promises in blog posts that they’re not able to fulfill.

Blog posts are made to interact with the player base, thus preventing players from opening thread such as “this game is dying”, etc. It’s a community statement that demonstrates that ANet are actually working on something.

I believe blog posts are a fine way of telling your players what you’re up to.

I hope I’m not the only one but, I really think the gem shop is a good thing. It doesn’t give any advantage for PvPers and that’s the main point for QQers.

Other than that, I’m for paying for little advantages such as bigger bags, boosters, etc. The game is really exciting even without them, and such tiny advantages can be bought when you really need to rush your character. So that’s a plus, if you want to pay, pay if not then simply play.

I really think GW2 business model is perfect the way it is right now.

I agree with you totally. GW2 needs a LFG tool ASAP.

To everyone that talks about guilds:
For casual gamers like me who play like 2-3 times a month, I’m not enough online to group up on a regular basis so everyone are already top level and wouldn’t waste their time helping me run dungeons.

At the exception of playing with friends, general guilds are useless for dungeons IMO.

With a proper LFG tool we could find quick PUGs and stop waste our evenings waiting for miracles.

Subscription for future expansions is a plus

Are you trolling? Seriously, no. The game has been made free and will always be IMO.

I personally spend a lot in the store and I’m glad of this business model, because like this month I really didn’t play a lot and would had wasted 20 bucks on a game that I didn’t play. But not with GW2, I didn’t pay a penny this month because I didn’t played.

That’s the point and is why this business model is way better than the pay to play model.
