some noob ranger questions

in Ranger

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

so i have been poking around and trying to figure out a few things. have found a lot of good information on this forum.

1. i have read that pet gets roughly triple healing bonus that ranger gets from an item. so for instance if i equip a +100 healing item the pet will get +300 healing (in other words if pet has regeneration will pump that up some.

2. in looking at the pet page and watching numbers i cannot see how other stats on my gear might affect the pet. does my power, toughness, vitality, etc bonuses transfer some to the pet? or they always just on their base stats on the pet page? maybe +healing is the only stat i need to consider when trying to buff my pet?

thanks very much for explanations. i know i should do more research on my own but it is so easy and useful to come to this forum, lots of people seem to have really done some good tests on aspects of the game.

are the respawn rates intentional?

ummmm, if all the respawn rates throughout the entire game are messed up, isn’t that kind of a bug? you really think this is not a huge issue? it is not in certain places, it is gamewide.

vincentvfx.1794

well maybe they will look at it. i can also say a very funny thing happened to me today. i was in an area, and took a first shot of the fight at a lashtail type mob. 3 fire imps appeared, began chain-knocking me down, buried me in their fire circle things while i was down, and i was dead before i could even say wtf?!!! this was in an outside normal type area. just 3 mobs, poof, appear and kill me. was really awesome. lol.

has nothing to do with hardcore, to me it is more or less just a cheap tactic because they dont know how to make challenging content. so they just make things respawn almost instantaneously. crappy game design.

are the respawn rates intentional?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

so these are some examples of what has happened to me

1. kill a mob to get to a mine, walk up and start mining, in the middle of mining a new mob has already appeared an is attacking me

2. kill some veteran etc type mob to get to a skill point, walk up to skill point, and halfway through ‘communing’ i am getting attacked again.

3. finishe killing a mob, almost that same instant another pops right up and begins attacking me

is this anet’s idea of challenging? is this an intentional part of the game? it happesn all through the game.

fix pet pathing

in Ranger

vincentvfx.1794

look, i am enjoying the ranger some, but i feel like i have just gone back 8 years or so and i am playing wow when it first came out with all the terrible pet pathing for their hunter. yes, i know they are different games, but for sure you guys at anet must realize people will be comparing.

currently, pets are doing all the kitten stuff i remember from wow 8 years back. i jump off an incline, they take the long way and bring all the mobs. this is ridiculous, there is no way you could have never noticed this in testing etc. it is very easy to test and reproduce now.

pets have all kinds of other issues too, but please fix pathing above all. in other words, make them follow us, and not take the long way around and aggro a train of mobs. you guys should really be emarrassed and ashamed.

so how do i get to karma gear temples?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

well as far as i can tell. the badge gear in wvw, and the karma gear sold at temples are of same top quality, numbers-wise. if i buy gear in wvw with my karma it is weaker than the gear i can get with karma at the temples (although cheaper karma price). so to get the best gear with karma i need to buy it at the temples as far as i can tell.

so how do i get to karma gear temples?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

so i have been looking up the karma gear temples and as far as i can tell i must go through the orr area to get to it. or is there a way to teleport there so i can spend my karma? the problem for me is not many pve peeps on my server and i find i cannot solo the orr content and keep things held. waypoints keep getting lost and if i can manage to take anything with a group at all it is gone the next day.

so is there another way to get to the area to the temples to spend karma on exotic gear?

vincentvfx.1794

i agree with you on that. it might be true for some other professions, but i definitely notice that the guardian trait lines are very goofy and really dont make a whole lot of sense. i am just considering from what i have seen of this entire game so far that it will still be in beta for about another year. we are just all beta testers. i mean look at the patch notes each time, the stuff that is being fixed should have been fixed before the game even came out.

Bots have ruined the Ranger profession

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

i think there might be a lot of ranger bots because if they die so many times that their armor is useless they still have a tuff pet. and weapons as far as i know are not damaged by dying. so even if you set a bot going and it dies 100 times before you come back, with a ranger it still had the same strong pet all the time.

but on top of the ranger/bot problem i am starting to see multi-boxing, which really ticks me off. i guess at least in pve it will not affect my game, but in pvp i am sure it will. the bots right now are ticking me off because they affect all kinds of events and generally speaking because of their numbers and how events scale it will ruin the event.

how does downleveling and gear work?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

so i always find that the way i play i outlevel my gear very quickly, but i am also trying to finish up a lot of the map so i am almost always being downleveled.

so when my gear is downleveled, which of these is the closest way to how it is recalculated -

1. if i am level 60 and i step into a level 40 zone it multiplies all my gear x 2/3 or .66?

2. if i am level 60 and i step into a level 40 zone it just takes 20 levels off of my gear by some internal math?

3. or is there a better explanation of how this works.

i have been wondering, and not really able to tell by my numbers. i wonder because lets say i am level 54, but because i am so far behind in my gear that my average level is 35. then i step into a level 30 area and i am deleveled to 30. if the game just knows that my gear is at 35 and takes it down to 30 that is not so bad. but if it multiplies it all down then i still have poop gear. eh well, anyways the pve seems not so bad most of time, i am just sleepy and wanted to make a crazy post.

vincentvfx.1794

this is very interesting. i have been leveling in pve for giggles with a staff. the most interesting, and probably most underrated aspect of the staff, is that buttons 1 and 2 pierce. so the arc of button 1 is kind of like an ever going aoe with no cooldown. has kinda crappy range, but i find it doable. button 2 has a bit better damage, but it also pierces. and button 3 is nice to lay down a bit of aoe fire.

question about 'battle presence'

vincentvfx.1794

so nearby allies basically get virtue of resolve too – regeneration. anybody have any idea on the radius of this? what exactly is ‘nearby’ (there are a lot of things for ‘nearby’). also, in wvw does it affect unlimited number? only people in my party? or just everybody within a certain radius? during the craziness of wvw i really cannot tell.

does 'heal allies' heal yourself too?

in Guardian

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

i have not been really able to tell in the heat of fighting. do things that affect allies affect yourself also (since obviously you are an ally)? there is like ‘heal allies’, ‘remove conditions from allies’, etc. thank you for info, i know it is kind of a simple question, but just too busy in battle and cannot tell from reading combat log.

not really possible to even keep up two crafting skills

in Crafting

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

just thought i would post what is probably common knowledge. or maybe people will have ideas. i have 6 characters ranging from level 58 to 5. what i have noticed is that the drop rate of blood vials etc, really prevents you from leveling more than one craft as you level up. i guess i mean the crafts other than cooking and jewelcrafting, as they are kind of their own thing and actually not too bad to level up.

and i am not rushing by any means. i do my best to work on all maps of each level for my main character before i move on. but if i am armorsmith/weaponsmit or leatherworker/huntsman or pretty much any combo like that, there is not chance i can see in normal gameplay to level up two such crafts. you just wont find all the blood vials, venom sacks etc, to keep both going.

and i use discovery almost exclusively to level up crafting. i find that i struggle to just keep my armorsmithing going while ignoring everything else (it is almost 225 now). it would be great if the formulas and/or drop rates could start being adjusted so it would be feasible for a character to level two crafts while leveling up at a normal rate.

is the respawn rate intentional?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

well i mean i like the feel of danger, but for me, and i dont know how others feel, it is a bit too much the more i level up. there have been a lot of times i wanted to stop and smell the roses and check out artwork etc. but i cant, because i know that in 5-10 seconds after i kill the mob it will be up again. i like the idea of making a challenge, but just having insane respawn rates feels like a cheap tactic, and for me it is starting to ruin the game.

is the respawn rate intentional?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

ok, i know several of you will just say learn to play and that is fine. the more i get into the game the more i find areas where i can make little or no progress. why? because the mobs are all packed together, and by the time i kill the second one, the first one is respawning. and then as i try to push deeper into given areas at a point i just get surrounded and no matter how i try to be strategic and kill a few off one by one, it does not matter because as soon as i take step forward the one i just killed is respawned.

i dont want my entire path to be cleared, but currently this really makes the game not really fun to play. is the game just not designed to be played by a single player if they want to? am i asking for the wrong thing?

endgame armor questions (exotics)

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

so i have been poking around on the internet but have not found the answers i am looking for.

i have found at least for legendary stuff that you pretty much have to complete EVERYTHING in the game. i will never accomplish this so not too worried about it.

what i am wondering about is exotic armor and weapons. it is the top stuff for end game beneath legendaries right? so what i am wondering is what are all the different ways to obtain exotics.

1. we can get them with karma points right? so this is done by running dynamic events again and again?

2. can we buy exotics with the dungeon tokens? (i have not even run one dungeon yet)

3. can we buy exotics with pvp tokens?

4. can we buy exotics from a vendor ingame with gold?

5. i am guessing we can buy exotics off of the auction house from other players who have crafted it?

6. so that means we can craft exotics?

and then the crazy question, are all these exotics from these various sources the same power and strength?

thanks for any info

'virtue of resolve' and 'inspired virtue'

in Guardian

vincentvfx.1794

p.s. so Kindred when i use my virtue of resolve if i have the trait, i will get a short heal over time buff and then have to wait a 60 seconds until the normal virtue of resolve regeneration kicks in again? that does not seem like such a great deal.

ah ok, ty all very much. sorry i was not up to the level to try it out. but again thanks, i really find the tooltips for a lot of this stuff in this game is ummm . . . i dunno . . .

'virtue of resolve' and 'inspired virtue'

in Guardian

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

ok, so again i am confused. as a guardian i get ‘virtue of resolve’ right off the bat and it regenerates my health. if i put 5 points into the trait line virtues i will now get the boon of regeneration applied to my ‘virtue of resolve’ (and might and protection too of course)

huh?! so does this mean i get extra regeneration? i cannot tell from anything on the hero page if my regeneration goes up or not. ty for any info as always.

how to maximized damage, + power or + condition?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

ok, so i tried posting this in warrior area and not even one answer.

if a profession, like a warrior, is trying to increase their damage with a weapon that does mostly condition damage(burning) such as the longbow, what is a good way to maximize damage.

i am maybe kind of starting to understand that the power of the attacker is looked at versus the toughness of the defender and this affects how much damage is done correct? and possibly does condition damage ignore toughness? although condition damage does not critical hit?

so even if i was a character trying to maximize my bleed or whatever, in this case trying to maximize burning, would i stack +power? or do i stack +condition?

i hope a moderator might leave this question in this area as it applies to more than just warriors. seems that almost all the professions have some kind of way to do condition damage. and ty much to anybody with information. i have been trying to understand and figure out the tooltips

does 'signet of resolve' and 'valor trait: purity' work together?

in Guardian

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

signet of resolve gets rid of a condition every 10 seconds, and the trait valor: purity also gets rid of a condition every 10 seconds. if a guardian has both of these, do they both work in conjunction? in essence two conditions gone every ten seconds, although i assume once they start working they will be on different timers.

long bow and fire, best way to increase damage?

in Warrior

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

so 3 of the skills for longbow have burning duration. i assume this means condition damage. so to get the most damage if i plan on making the long bow my main weapon, do i stack power? or do i stack condition? ty for info, is difficult to tell from tooltips etc.

are knockdown mechanics excessive?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

vincentvfx.1794

ya know what though, i have to add this now. i am in gendarren fields at the skillpoint just south of nebo. you need to kill 2 veteran saplings. so yes maybe i need to learn some more, but it is a knockdown type mob. so i kite it, stall it, use abilities etc. but i get out of range of skillpoint and it resets. so i think ok i cant back up. so i stand face to face with it, it knocks me back, chases me, gets out of its zone, and then has to run back, and then fully heals itself. ummmmm, come on? seriously? so then what i finally ahd to do was to make sure my back was pointed to the skillpoint hub as best i can so when it knocks me back it does not knock me back out of its zone and reset. i finally finished it, but really? i mean really?

are knockdown mechanics excessive?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

ya, i am kind of unsure of what to think about it. i like it that things are more challenging, but sometimes i am just kind of going nuts after fighting through a group of mobs with knockback

are knockdown mechanics excessive?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

so i have just hit level 40. i will say that i do like the fact in this game that you totally need to be on the move at all times. so far it is a difficult adjustment for me, i am used to wow and for pve questing you really did not have to move like you do in this game.

but sometimes i think it is a bit overboard, too much. i feel that lately i just go up against mob after mob that has some knockback or knockdown ability. the knockback i find the most irritating because i often get knocked into some geometry and cannot see, then after jumping and spinning some i can get out of it, and then i am knocked back again into some other geometry i cannot see out of. so maybe i am just lazy or unadjusted to it. i like the challenge, but sometimes i am just thinking inside my head, ‘ok, enough already’.

so should i just learn to dodge better etc? put all skills and traits into things that can give me stability? i have already started to do this some, but seems a lot of my stability stuff all goes off cooldown real quick and then i become a soccer ball for the mobs.

so what do all of you think? knockback stuff is good where it is at? a bit excessive or not?

resetting of mobs?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

ok, so i understand that if i try to kite a mob beyond a certain point it should run back to its starting place. and i can even deal with it regenerating its hp. but once it begans even running back i believe i should totally lose aggro and the fight is off right?

what has been happening to me lately is, i will be fighting maybe a veteran and several other mobs, or sometimes even several veterans. i find if i keep backing away from where the fight started sometimes i go to far and then they run back and all i can see is ‘evade’. so i assume i kited too far. BUT . . . the second they go back to their start point and recharge all their hp up, they charge right out after me again. so it is like they get a free hp restore.

is this intended? this is starting to happen more and more. i dont mind the reset, but then when they charge right back out at me and i am still damaged because i was ‘in combat’ while they ran back? and all my cool downs i used to almost kill them are now gone? is this happening to anybody else?

ok, i am prob too much of a noob to be asking. been playing for a few weeks, have jumped around on many alts, have 6 guys ranging from level 5 to 32. i had my ‘main’ more or less finish most of each of the five starting areas.

so now i have started the 15-25 areas and ummmm, i notice the mobs are pretty much the same as the 1-15 areas, just more hp, and more knockdown, poison etc. but the models look exactly the same? is this how it is for the entire game?

btw, on a positive note, i was logging on from work to post this, and arenanet made me authenticate my login after sending an email to my address i have with them. it is nice that they can do something as simple as check the IP you are logging on from and say ‘hey, this does not match, were you hacked?’

oh ok, i got ya. ya i think scepter should be in another line somewhere perhaps as you said. that was just the point of my post, i thought i had missed some kind of synergy or something that made it worth taking 3 traits that buff symbols just to get to the one that will buff a scepter.

heya Wolfgrey,

so i have a question for you then. i understand Zeal helping greatsword of course. but as the 3 unchangable traits are buffs for symbols, and neither scepter nor torch creates symbols, doesn’t it feel like something is missing for them? i realize you can still make a choice on 1 choosable trait within this line to buff scepter, but if you are getting 3 traits that buff symbols just to get this trait seems odd no?
