Need advice for WvW daredevil

Hello. I am new to thief in WvW. Was itching to try it out there. I need some advice though. I want to run a power build, d/p+sb probably. What are the important things I should look after? I am thinking of taking marauder gear on most of my armor/trinkets/weapons to reach some health. What trait lines are worthwhile? Any tips? Thanks.

Start Mirage over from scratch, PLEASE.

Yesterday I’ve been running around in wvw with domi/duel/chrono and condi cleanse mantra. I’ve been pretty successful so far.
Since inspiration got destroyed by removing it’s capability of removing conditions, I don’t see a reason to run it anymore. Now with automatically refreshing mantras I find condi cleanse mantra is a strong skill to replace inspiration trait line with.

My only issue is that dealing with thieves becomes much harder without instant cast daze/stun which is why I tend to take inspiration. The condition cleanse and health regeneration was very nice but that’s getting gutted and gutted each patch. Meanwhile guards keep the uninvested 2k health regen on meditations, warriors kept adrenal healing all without any investment and don’t even get me started on rev sustain.

I dunno why but I’ve been beating thieves easier with this build lol.

BTW I think adrenal health got nerfed by 66% so yeah. Power berserker RIP. Only core warrior is viable now IMO.

Yeah that’s a recent change but how long do you honestly think it will last before they change it to level 2 for trait purposes? It also doesn’t address the issues I razed, it’s a non invested regen (same for rousing resilience) that hasn’t been touched, same for many classes yet it’s the mesmer that gets hit with the nerfs to a trait that has more counterplay than pretty much anything else in the game.

That’s without bringing up how much they gutted mantra of recovery and meanders purity, at this point I’d rather they had put a 10s ICD on meanders purity than remove the extra cleanse.

Yeah that is why I ditched inspiration and went for dueling instead. I am figuring to add some toughness trinkets with toughness infusions and I should be solid.

Power mantra WvW roaming has been hit hard by this. Yes, the burst is incredible now and you can 1-shot anything without auto-invulns, but the cost has been very high.

You mean you can one shot with dueling traited?

Dueling with Mantra of Pain I was consistently able to one-shot with a correctly timed wombo-combo prior to patch and now the damage is even higher (bonus to ALL critical damage, and can preload 8 additional might, and cause 5 to 10 extra vuln stacks). That’s for WvW though with food and bloodlust stacks.

So what build do you use? What trait lines?

I’ve been using power mesmer for pvp. Not a big fan of condi mesmer. Condi is so simple to apply, only a looser would choose it. That’s what I think.

Frankly this still isn’t a problem to be solved with excessive access to cleansing. Never was.

All skills are spammed like crazy. Everything barrages you 50 times a second. In a balanced world it wouldn’t matter much whether a 1000 damage direct attack hits you or a 1000 damage bleed. Both are 1k damage if you fail to dodge the attack. One gets reduced by toughness, the other can be cleansed and ofc has lower burst since it needs time to tick.

Excessive access to cleansing just means conditions have to be hellishly strong to compensate (see: current PvP/WvW gameplay).

Inspiration trait line is the only way to effectively clear condi cancer when running around as a power shatter. I dunno if that was necessary.

It looks like people won’t get to have their cake and eat it anymore, they will need to go deep with stat choices that have Concentration now to try and get back to 100%, or close. I honestly feel like this is a good thing though because it makes the gearsets you choose matter quite a bit more now. That and the Boon/Condi meta needed to be toned down.

I liked her in LS1 despite her Scarlet fangirling, then she just kept getting more selfish and obnoxious, putting people in danger for the sake of showing off her Brilliant Solutions to Everything. The last straw for me was when she decided going to Rata Novus was more important than rescuing the captives from Mordremoth. I wouldn’t mind if the next thing she gets put into is a dragon’s mouth.

Hey as far as I remember she didn’t ask we go with her. She would’ve gone there anyway. We just understood the importance of the research we might find in there so we went there as well. In the bigger picture couple of captive lives ain’t sh….it compared to a knowledge on how to defeat a dragon.

Dragons are overdone in fantasy to the point of nausea. Before this game I played Rift, Dragon Age, Skyrim, honestly if I never faced another dragon, I’d be happy.

We went through all of Guild Wars 1 without a dragon ever being the big baddie (though arguably dragon minions were in Eye of the North). Nothing is less interesting to me than a dragon.

In guild wars dragons seem more like entities than real physical flying things. They have minions that do the job for them. I wonder why couldn’t the dragon just do it all by itself?

For example, why couldn’t Zhaitan just fly over Claw Island himself and devoured us all when we were weak? Or when we killed his generals? Seems like he just can’t leave his domain where he reigns. Maybe the further away it gets from it’s awakening place the weaker it gets?

Technically we’re not sure they’re asleep. Primordus is weakened to the same level of strength he had while asleep, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he is asleep. And we’re not even sure how much Jormag has been weakened, we only have Taimi’s speculation that he’s asleep “too”.

I do think that putting two of the three more interesting dragons on the proverbial bus would be a bad move, especially without exploring them more. Zhaitan and Mordremoth should have been the ones fought indirectly – who needs more plants and zombies anyways.

I mean the name itself points to the wars of guilds. So really, we shouldn’t even be fighting dragons, but other guilds.

The first game had warring guilds, technically.

Dragon Age isn’t really about fighting dragons, ironically it’s about warring factions (kind of makes it feel like the two series had reversed names).

What I find interesting is that dragons usually go to sleep when their belly is full of magic. Does that mean Primordus and Jormag actually consumed the magic? Wiki points out, that dragons wake up when they are weak, when the magic is out of their system.

Why did ArenaNet abandon Elder Dragon bosses

Im ok with that, Anet for me dropped the ball really badly with the HOT story line.

As Sylvari and Norn are my favorite races i thought it was a chance to see more into the culture of them ( sylvari espeically) since this is the elder dragon that created them. See the Pale Tree come back being that she is my favorite NPC.

Also HOT really hurt me being Eir, Caithe are my 2nd and 3rd favorites. No spoilers

I also liked Trehearne, it wasnt up there but i liked his character for the role he brought to the story as a Sylvari chasing his Wild Hunt and all the studying he did, explaining him as a Scholar.

GW itself has a great back story. GW2 the original story line with Zhaitan was better then average though i think it would of left a better taste in our mouths had we actually got to fight Zhaitan after blowing up 1/2 its body. Like we have to finish the job on the beach.

With all that rambling, HOT pooped the bed hard. Lack of character story lines, Lack of interest for whats going on, alot of Dues EX-Machina , character break downs, ( characters who did things they would of never done based of the GW2 story line, fighting ZHaitan) and just a lack of actual story to go threw.

LS didnt help either. Here we have the most powerful beings known to all beings. The dragons who have defeated all who have crossed them and Tami made a machine that could kill 2 at once.

Its not bad enough that the human gods are much stronger then us, or the fact that 1 of the new maps with the volcano left clues of far more advanced civilizations then ours losing to the dragons.

I mean think it would be a good change of pace so they can refocus and actually make fighting epic monsters epic again.

I already been discussing this ‘HoT pooped the bed’ thing with some people. And they seem to agree with me. In short, Anet knew what they’re in for when releasing HoT and they took the risk hyping it as much as possible to make this expansion with little to no content last for a while.

But look from the other side. The game got a very strong feature foundation that it can build upon. HoT itself was basically a ‘feature pack’ not a real expansion. I think it was intentional.

What I am trying to say is that (hopefully) next expansion is going to be big story wise and won’t really disappoint. After we have so many features in the game all it’s left is to build upon it. (And maybe do something with the game engine or improve graphics? The game kind of lacks in this department).

I think each expansion will have their own dragon.
For this upcoming expansion, we might even know more about Kralkatorrik! As we head more to Elona.

There are a lot of things besides dragons that can be expansion-size-worth of material. Why is everyone obsessed with those sleepy beings. Let them sleep (considering they literally sleep for a loooong time. Like thousands of years (source from wiki)). We can go different direction and get even more epic narratives as well.

Could we stop putting Taimi into everything?

To be fair, I think Taimi is there for a reason. With everyone going their separate ways, I think Taimi has taken it upon herself to look after the Commander, who admittedly must not be feeling great given how their “team” has fallen apart around them. Unlike the rest of the team, the Pact Commander has no emotional crutch to rely on, and is thus the most emotionally vulnerable member.

As for the “Asuran” focused resources – Taimi is an Asura. It makes sense that when she plays mission control, the resources at her disposal are mainly affiliated with Asuran interests – similar to how we used pact resources when we lead the story as the “Commander of the Pact”.

I don’t think Taimi is the issue of the story at present – if anything, I’d say her writing was one of the things done right. The reason why she is the lynchpin of the season is because she’s the only member of Dragons Watch who could be there for our character through and through.

The player character should feel that they have agency and power in the story. The fact that Taimi consistently “plays mission control” is exactly the problem. The player, the commander of the pact, should be in control of the mission, not some npc kid.

And I dunno about you, but I don’t really agree that the role you’ve outlined for Taimi makes for a good story. Depending on an immature child as an emotional crutch isn’t exactly my idea of a fantasy epic, or a role that my character/myself could even identify with. I’m not emotionally devastated by braham leaving, I’m annoyed that we even have to spend time dealing with these childish problems.

To live up to the big set pieces coming up (gods, dragons, elona) Arenanet needs to tell bigger, more dramatic stories. Taimi’s one element holding them back from that. She works best in small doses imo. Keep her on comic relief, away from the main storyline.

I don’t know about you, but Season 3 has been pretty God kitten ed epic. It’s your problem you’re concentrated on one thing: Taimi, and can’t see anything else. First Mursaat, then the God revealing himself, new AMAZING maps, all this tension between in-game characters makes a pretty epic story.

Some people like Phlunt more than Taimi, while I prefer Taimi. Some people might say they want Braham to become a pact commander. I say why don’t you all shut the hell up and enjoy the story as it is? I mean, I would like that my father was a president. Am I whining about it? Nah, because you can’t change it. And there are too many opinions to appeal to everyone.

Could we stop putting Taimi into everything?

in Living World

Posted by: zomgbuffalo.5276

zomgbuffalo.5276

I also agree with the OP that Taimi should not be the central character of every story. I would like to see more variety. If Asuran tech is indeed the answer to every problem, then they should be the master race on Tyria already. In the beginning, Asuran tech used to be “hit-or-miss” – sometimes it worked but often it went horribly awry. Which is why Asura are not actually the master race. But along comes Taimi and suddenly she has the answer to everything. I HATE that kind of writing!

Asura are master race when it comes to magic and eternal alchemy. They understand it better than anyone else. You have to understand that Tyria is not on the surface of Earth. A whole different set of laws apply to races there. If Charr really wanted, they probably could wipe all the races from Tyria. So really master race is a very abstract term here to use.

You do realise all asuras are basically Phlunts 2.0 or some sh…..it. So idk what you want to do. get rid of Asura race? Get the hell outta here B. No other race knows about tech as much as asuras. You want Braham to do bamboozle kaboom shish woosh with Omad’s machine?

They don’t care about small scale balance, but even in terms of large scale fights, the meta can get a bit boring, unless you play different professions. The skill lag can be also insane.

yeah another thing is skill lag and technical issues. Those can be understandable I guess, since maybe they rlly need to invest tons of money in it to fix it, but bad game designs – they should reconsider that.
