Yes, that angle sounds about right. You could also do 62° Diagonal.

Yes each tick is 1 degree. If you click the reset to defaults button it will put the Fov slider to 50°. Hope that helps somewhat! I know it’s not ideal, hopefully one day we can get actual values on that menu.

Hi!

Guild Wars 2 by default uses a Vertical Fov, by using the -useOldFov command line parameter you can switch it to a Diagonal Fov.

Now to get a 90° Horizontal Fov you are going to have to do some math.
It’s a little early and I worked this out by hand so it might be wrong.

tan^(-1)((sqrt((AspectRatio)^2+1) tan(90/2))/(AspectRatio))

So to get a Horizontal Fov you’re first going to need to use the -useOldFov command line parameter, then you are going to need to adjust your Fov Slider to whatever that formula spits out. (If you know your aspect ratio I can help you calculate it.) A quick note the minimum Fov angle is 20° and the max is 70°, that should help you figure out where to move the slider.

So I guess its fair to expect this event to be another rehash right? I mean, since they are clearly ignoring people asking about it. I hope they put the expensive expansion money to good use and next halloween we can have new content because last year’s was sad.

That’s not really true. On the first page of this very thread Gaile said “There will be a blog and an event page soon. You’ll have a whole bunch of details then.”

To add a note to what she said, when these details go out the way she explained, they will go out in all four languages we support. Then all of our players get the details at the same time, not just the ones who happen to speak English.

No matter what the events contain, you can decide ahead of time that the Halloween events are going to be bad and that you won’t enjoy them, but it seems like it would be more fun to join the party that only rolls around once a year and have a good time along with the rest of us.

It’ll just be access to guild chat. Not sure what transport we’ll use or any of the other details. Literally all I’ve done so far is sit down and say “I should be able to use guild chat while not logged into the game”.

Hehe, what I thought and I fully agree.

I also noticed mailing and friendslist were mentioned before edited away in the before-mentioned thread. Are those still on the table we all love so much?

Mail, if we had an endpoint, could ever only be read-only. And you can’t see mails you’ve sent. It’d be a lot of work for a fairly low-value endpoint, IMO.

Friend/block lists might make it though I don’t have plans in the near future for ‘em. There’s a bunch of small fires to put out now and a bunch of other endpoints/improvements ahead of it in line.

/v1/wvw/matches without any id passed in gives me the world ids of the worlds involved in the match, whereas /v2/wvw/matches just gives the ids.

Should I just continue to use v1 to find the match that my world is in, or will that also be added to v2?

That functionality should still work in v1. I’ll probably add similar functionality to v2 (as a separate endpoint), though it isn’t there yet.

Awesome.

My guild is planning our annual Halloween party and in game costume contest on the night of Monday the 26th, but I will talk to them during missions next week and see if they want to move it to the 30th.

It’ll be up to them though. I suspect many will have real world plans on a Friday night just before Halloween.

If you’re planning, I probably should mention that we’ll have some team members active during EU daytime hours, and the studio will have some reps active during daytime NA hours, with the primary hours being 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Friday, October 30.

Confused though, is this post saying that the decorations and such are going up today/soon? As I thought we already knew Halloween was coming (was I assuming that?)

Oh sorry for any confusion! No, the decorations and such do not go up today. I’m simply playing Herald. Well, not really — I’m playing Ranger, but you know what I mean.

The blog comes next week, and it’ll have dates and details. This post was just to get the word out that we’ll try to participate in some player-hosted in-game events, in addition to doing some of our own. In other words, to invite guilds and groups and individuals to let us know what they have planned so we can try to stop by.

Thanks for those who are looking forward to the event, and who post to say they are. For those who are posting up bile-filled negativity, I’d like you to step back and think about the situation: We’re having a Halloween festival in a timeframe when many, many players thought there would not be one. Dire “the sky is falling” commentary isn’t appropriate. Rude “You got nothing” comments have no place here.

We’re offering to join community events because they’re fun, and our joining in supports those marvelous people and guilds and groups who put their time and effort into creating such events for the community at large. This is in no way a case where we’re “doing nothing” when the team is presenting an entire festival for you at a time the company is also launching an expansion pack for our game.

This thread presents positive and encouraging new information, and I’d ask you to join in the spirit of the thread and not make rude, negative, or nasty comments. I mean, replying is optional, and thoughtfulness seems a simple thing to ask.

Maybe I asked wrong because I know how the layered maps are working.
Let me reword my question. Here is an older example of my overlay. It projects the self-tracked 3D coordinates of the objectives, in the same way the gw2 graphic engine would do, into the field of view of the users. As coordinates I use the center of the flipping areas of each objectiv.

Would it be possible to give us such 3D coordinates too?

You’re looking at the capture gadget location (which is a 3D point). The capture gadget is only casually related to the objective, so pulling them out is going to be a doozie. It’s something I can look into doing, but I can’t make any guarentees.

The marker and label coordinates are only 2D points because they’re currently only used to render the map. I found out where the marker coordinates are stored so I’ll work on having those piped through (maybe before HoT ships, I dunno).

I’ll be looking into map tiles today.

Halloween is coming to Tyria! We’re really looking forward to the return of everyone’s favorite pumpkin-headed monarch, Mad King Thorn, and his motley mass of mischievous minions.

While many of us at ArenaNet will be joining the game often during the Halloween festival, team members are going to make a special effort to join players in the game on Friday, October 30. We’ll be hanging out in Lion’s Arch, joining with players in a few rounds of “Mad King Says” or other seasonal activities, and hopping into a few of the many player-organized events that take place on that date.

If your guild or group is holding an event in Lion’s Arch on October 30, let us know by posting in this thread. Provide the group name, time (with time zone), your game world, and a few details about your planned activities. If we’re able to do so, we’ll stop by and visit with you for a bit!

We also wanted to mention that we’ve scheduled a new episode of the Community Showcase Live livestream for Wednesday, October 28 at Noon Pacific Time (17:00 UTC). The show is presented in English, but art is “the universal language” and we feel that everyone will enjoy the visuals no matter what language they speak. If you’re an artist, crafter, or other creative sort, please consider posting your creations in our Community Creations Forum. Lizzie and I may be able to feature them in a future show!

Get ready to celebrate Halloween, Tyria Style!

What kind of program is GW2?

I’m starting my compsci major in college, and looking through all the different languages and stuff, I was randomly curious, what language was GW2 written in? Or is it a collection of different languages for different parts of the game, held together though proprietary stuff?

As others have said the primary language used for the game is C/C++. There’s a bit of custom language thrown in there, but that boils down to C/C++ too. The trading post runs through web servers, so there’s some Javascript/HTML stuff thrown in there as well.

Our in-house tools are written in a variety of languages such as C/C++, C#, Python, Ruby, Javascript.

All of these languages are fairly common in game development these days.

At this time, we expect there will be no changes to the guild mission reset time before launch of Heart of Thorns. We’re investigating the connection between guild mission reset times and raids reset times, and we will know more in the upcoming weeks.

Dragon hunter traps instakill thieves?

Karl, the fragments (aegis on pickup) also seem to have some kind of delay – is that intended? I’ve popped the trap multiple times and I would follow fragments around attempting to essentially spam aegis on myself during fights and there seems to be some kind of ICD (~1sec).

The fragments themselves won’t pop if you have Aegis on when you enter them. They don’t have an ICD though or anything like that. If you lose aegis while standing on top of them, though, they probably won’t re-apply the boon until you move into it again.

Also, small suggestion; is there a way you could make the timer circle inside of the marker grow out instead of shrink in. It’s just easier to see when it goes off that way.

We won’t change the animation simply because we’re already using a version of the telegraph that grows outwards later in the release, and that telegraph is definitely something you don’t want to stand in and need to get away from.

In other words… If the telegraph grows inwards, you should stack on it in some form (or maybe it’ll pull you in /plots). If the telegraph grows outwards then you need to get out.

The center event status of the desert borderlands map should probably go into the bonuses array, and maybe EB merc camps. I wasn’t able to get that state plumbed through in time for HoT, but want to have that in the future. They’ll go in as objects into the bonuses array.

But yeah, this is using a bunch of new code (the implementation is parallel to the old one) to support a handful of new features. Had a rough time testing it in my dev environment, so I wanted to mess with it a bit more before announcing it. If you’re into early releases, you might also like this. Not sure it behaves correctly at daily reset though.

The data we’re using for objectives doesn’t have coordinates at all but they’re associated with sectors. Sectors don’t have 3D coordinates — they’re entirely 2D. IIRC the 3D bit comes from which floors the sector belongs to, though I think there’s only 1 floor for the WvW maps.

All this data is simply what is used to render the tooltip, not actually what goes in to calculating the skill.

Pretty much this. That’s the closest we have to a normalized form for skill details. Unfortunately it isn’t very normalized at all — in the stun case it does the “right” thing in the primary use-case and displays a stun icon with the text “Stun” and a duration.

It’s not ideal for machine-readability, but it’s the best thing we have at the moment.

How large is the radius on the visible gold dots when working as intended? Will I be able to stand at EB spawn and see gold dots in enemy keeps?

Just like with party members you can see the gold dots anywhere in the world. The rate as which the position updates is much lower for players not in the same map as you (which is also how party dots work currently).

Thanks for the response, Seth. I hope this upcoming feature will have a toggle option, as I imagine people in guilds with 500 members might not want their maps to be obliterated by yellow dots.

Is this something that we’ll be able to toggle off?
Being part of a big guild, Teq will look really cluttered with a whole bunch of yellow dot around a commander tag.
