Many apologies if this has already been asked and answered – I had a look but couldn’t see it anywhere.

If I already have 8 character slots filled, can I add to them by purchasing an upgrade, or do I need a second account?

Hi there. I know of players with two dozen character slots, so you do not need to purchase an upgrade, but can acquire additional slots through the Gem Store.

Hi zKarp – What sort of troubleshooting have you tried? I’d start with disabling any extra background applications that you may have enabled via Msconfig, ensuring that your video card drivers are up to date, in addition to ensuring that your video card is running at x16 speeds and is in the proper PCI slot on your motherboard. If it is, in some cases you may simply need to reseat the card.

There are issues with major ISPs/E-mail providers blocking our mails (pretty much out of our control, but we’re trying to work on it). The post I linked above has a practical suggestion for him to try to allow our mails to come to his in-box.

Second, since this is an on-going issue, please have him stop submitting duplicate tickets. Please go ahead and post on his behalf in the Tickets for Review thread here — https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Tickets-for-Review-3-days-and-older-merged/first — and please provide with each and every ticket number related to this issue. I’m sorry to ask you to post there, but just a few sentences and the ticket numbers will help us help him!

We need some feedback on the previous CDI before we start another one on the same topic. We need to know what might be possible and what is off limit.

Example, people mentioned that transfers should be calculated according to WvW population, instead of PvE, since PvE is not necessarily on the home world, thus people transfer mainly for WvW.

People also mentioned graphics about queue times being published in the past, so that people can know how long they can expect to wait for a given map on a given time.

It has been mentioned that servers should be made international.
It has been mentioned that people from stacked server should get free transfers to needing servers

Some mentioned servers less active in WvW shouldn’t get less bonus, but more, so that people are more likely to select these low WvW activity servers…

Some of these ideas were just mentionned, some were discussed in lenght amongst the players, but all we heard was “this idea is off the table” not “that idea is interesting”, nor, “as is, this idea cannot be applied, we might tweak it this or that way, so that it might work, what do you think?”

This leaves us people who care about population imbalance with a bitter taste in the mouth – nothing we say is considered, it’s just “swept under the rug”.
So, before deciding whether yet another population imbalance CDI must be made, we need to know if it is useful…

(By the way, thanks for your presence here and now – but if multiple CDI threads are launched at the same time, the input you can give on one subject is going to be limited – And there is just not enough WvW Devs to ensure their activity – and they obviously just take part in it because they were told to. I’d rather have one discussion per week that is fulfilling, than three that leaves one unanswered)

In regard to your edit Jocksy i think it may be at least worthwhile really putting a lot of effort into the next WvW thread to show exactly how CDI can work. For that to happen i would like to be involved alongside Izzy and that would mean that we would run the next WvW topic on its own and then go back to 3 topics running concurrently following this.

I would suggest taking the time to read my posts on the PVE Living World topic to understand how seriously i take the CDI and how it does impact development through mind share and evolution of design philosophy. I agree that the first WvW thread could have been managed better and that we are working hard to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

CDI is not an exercise in trying to placate the community by having a place where they can vent at Devs. If it were to become this i would shut down the initiative.

It is instead an exercise in education on both sides and then evolution of design philosophy with the goal of making Guild Wars 2 the very best online world it can be.

I think doing commander functionality discussion this week is a good idea. Can we do this and then switch back to pop imbalance one? This way people and devs have a week of rest from a very hard topic and we might actually get some useful wvw progress with commander discussion. Pop imbalance is still a major issue, but keeping this discussion going extra week isnt going to help. Better to take a week break and come back to it with a fresh look.

Justin has been looking into ways to make rosters more balanced. He’s mentioned placing users with dishonored together in queue (what a terrible place to be!), spreading professions more evenly, and a few other things.

In theory, the idea sounds awesome! I’ve personally been on quite a few solo queue rosters of myself + 4 of the same profession – and it’s definitely not fun. The obvious downside here is that every filter he creates is going to extend queue times that much more.

Justin created a thread on this topic already and has asked what you guys feel would be an acceptable queue time, assuming the matches were more healthy and balanced based on these filters. We may very well do something like what you’ve suggested the next time we feel the need to do a reset. It would certainly allow for a much less turbulent week following the reset.

For this past reset in particular, we felt it was best to take everyone back to square one and make sure there was no holdover from the previous iteration of our leaderboard system.

I’m bummed that the rate of CDI activity is getting cut to 1/3 of its initial vision- especially after seeing what I feel were most of the weaknesses of the initial launch detected, dissected, and likely resolved (or at least greatly improved) in this thread. If we have to crawl before we can walk, ok, but I’ll always be wishing we could get to the point where process dances even if it means another 1/3 or 1/2 of the threads fall short along the way.

I worry that with all the eggs in one basket, we risk having one bad mis-step or failed attempt make the whole process look bad because there’s only one thread at a time. It really restricts the rate at which we can detect problems and improve the process and it cuts the actual collaboration off to a trickle of what it could be.

I would love to help field a discussion on the commander system, I know there are a few other topics everyone brought up but I think a good brainstorm about how to improve large scale communication/origination has very large impact on WvW. This is also becoming more important in PvE as we move forward with large scale encounters. So I think it would be a fun discussion as there is a lot of room to improve the current system.

Hi J Season – Thanks for the screenshot!

And I want to apologize for how dry a lot of these steps are – generally the Mac issues are a “known issue with a fix” or a “known issue without a fix.” These particular issues, however, can usually be resolved.

I would like you to stop any applications that may automatically start in the background when you turn on your computer. When you remove these applications from the startup list, you may want to note them down so you can manually re-add them in the future if you wish. Doing this will help us determine if another program is interfering with your ability to run Guild Wars 2.

Please perform the following:

1. On the Finder menu bar, click Go > Applications > System Preferences.
2. Under the System header open “Accounts.”
3. Choose your account on the left.
4. Click the “Login Items” button on the right.
5. Select any items in the list and click the minus button below the list one at a time.

Once these are removed please perform the following:

1. On the Finder menu bar, click Go > Computer.
2. Open your Hard Drive.
3. Click System > Library > and Startup Items.
6. Please remove any applications that are listed here.

Once these items are all removed from both locations please restart your computer and try the game again. If the issue persists please let me know.

Good find, so the bug is if you overcharge the turret when the shot is on cooldown and the overcharge fades before the next shot is ready, it will cease firing. For now it is probably best if you try not to reproduce that. Sorry for the inconvenience.

My only disdain with lore in this update, is that discussion of the lore is being stifled because of the Scarlet Hate. There are IMO much more interesting reveals this update that are just utterly buried by the never-ending stream of scarlet vitriol.

Update to the Update: I’m actively speaking with the Payment Team Lead (very nice person) who tells me that it’s for sure that charges that got stuck today in a “pending” state will not be processed. They are dead because of that temporary issue on our side.

You may see a charge or two as “pending” but it’ll drop off your CC account in 1 to 3 days. In the meantime, you are welcome to initiate the charge again. If you have issues, it’s because you tried a few times in a short period of time and — I know this is frustrating! — there are security measures that prevent a whole lot of purchase attempts in a short period of time.

So as long as your CC is in good standing, you can try again.
If you have difficulties, update your ticket.
As for Rimax and Raitak — the agent looked at both your accounts and you’re clear to try again.

We’re going to do a little maintenance in the near future to try to reduce these glitches. They don’t happen often, but hey, we want to get to “Zero Errors!”

tempted to login the game to see if gem’s have arrived but afraid it might mess up there process of fixing this >.< curosity… to preoccupy myself i’m watching cat vids on utube how silly is that ;p

Payments Team tells me that those who attempted and didn’t get their goods are in “pending” and will be cancelled. You therefore can attempt a new purchase. If there’s any problem at all, we’ll solve it. But the lead I spoke with said it’s highly unlikely you’d be double-charged because the “pending” payment is kind of… dead.

Oh darn it, same situation here. The charges are “pending” but as far as I understand it, they will not be completed. Let me check with my Payments Team contact, but I do believe you can — now that the system is back up and running properly — re-initiate a purchase attempt, it will process properly, and the other “pending” transactions will drop off your account — without charge — in a day or two.

Back with more info soon.

Nope still have not received the gems. I want to clarify that i was charged the 50$ but have not received any of the gems i went to purchase. I really appreciate the help also honestly =]

I do understand, but as the agent explained the purchases were never charged to your card. _ Your financial institution/bank/credit card company did place a “hold” on the funds pending completion of the transaction, but _you were not charged for any purchase attempt.

As the agent also explained, as much as we’d like to simply complete the transaction, we’re not allowed to do that. Also, ‘when authorizations go into a holding state, it is actually the bank’s policy that dictates how long a transaction will be held in this state."

You’re welcome to initiate a new purchase, knowing that the previous incomplete attempt will drop off your account, without a charge, in a couple of days.

Hi J Season,

I would like for you to delete the Guild Wars 2 folder located within your Users library folder. You can do this by following the instructions below:

1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the Finder menu bar.

2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the Finder menu bar. A dropdown will appear.

3 While still holding down the “Option” key, click on “Library” in the “Go” dropdown.

4 Once in the Library folder click on Application Support > Guild Wars 2

5 Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash.

The next time you launch Guild Wars 2 it will create a new version of the folder that you deleted.

Please launch Guild Wars 2 and see if you are able to log in and play without issues.

1. Hold down the Windows button on the keyboard and hit the R key.
2. Paste in the following line and then click OK.

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2

Once here, locate the ArenaNet.log file and attach it to the thread by clicking “More posting & formatting options…”

Since the new matchmaking system 1) finds 10 people of a similar MMR and then deals them into two equal teams, and 2) changes your MMR based on the AVERAGE MMR of the team you faced.

Will it take weeks and weeks to sort itself out?

It shouldn’t take too many matches for an individual to get near their optimal MMR, but I’m not sure how long it will take the population on average to stabilize. It will depend on how many rated matches a day the average player participates in.

Say that everyone starts at say a 500 MMR (on a 1 to 1000 scale).

On the first matches, the winners MMRs only go up very slightly, and loser MMRs only go down very slightly.

Correct.

And If you won your first, you are likely to lose the second match. There will be few “streaks”.

Yes, your MMR will be pretty volatile for the first few matches, with each match increasing the confidence of your rating.

I was just placed on two losing teams as my first two matches. I am scared that I will plummet to the dreaded GLicko2 basement with players who do not try or don’t know how to play.

Don’t worry about it. Your ratings deviation (confidence level) is still very wide, and you’re still going to be grouped with a wide variety of players.

Should you somehow find yourself in a basement, which should be less likely with the recent matchmaking changes, our plans for next year include a way for players to get themselves out.

I think ANet needs to fire Bobby and everyone else on the lore team right now and rethink everything they’re doing, because Bobby and his buddies only know one way to advance the “plot” at this point:
SCARLET DID IT.

Thank you for all of the responses, especially from Gaile! What I saw in FG was simply appalling. While I agree with you, Brother Grimm, threatening players who don’t play the way that a group wants to play is rude and selfish in itself. When players threaten others with reports enough that those players leave the map or stop playing because they know no better and are in fear of getting in trouble isn’t right one bit. Even used as a scare-tactic is not appropriate, at least in my opinion.

And I agree with you completely.

It’s a game. Let’s all have fun and let’s not try to stop others from having fun, too. There are a million options and a thousand playstyles and if we’re even just a little bit considerate and understanding, we can co-exist and each have our fair share of fun in Tyria!

Rude comments should be just “water off a duck’s back” in my opinion. But at some point, it can become harassment, and in those extreme (and thankfully pretty unusual) cases, a player can contact Support to discuss the matter.
