Virtues are not balanced for PvE vs PvP vs WvW they are balanced for combat which is tuned for generally 1-5 combatants. Whethe or not they are effective in a given encounter depends on that encounter. Sometimes they are more useful as passive abilities and sometimes they are more useful as actives. Finally, they are not balanced against other skills specifically, they are balanced as the class mechanic of the Guardian profession which is an effective profession in nearly all if not all content.
The leaver thing is what annoys me more, becuase u practically have no chance.
Yeah, we’re working on that as well. We’ve got plans to prevent it from happening before a match starts, and what to do if it happens in the middle of a match. This will probably be covered in the matchmaking blog and discussion unless we feel it merits its own discussion.

I know what you mean. We understand a lot of our higher skilled players are being burned out by playing with people that haven’t learned the game yet.
Once the news comes out on Monday, I’ll be able to explain one of the additional ways matchmaking will be able to help you guys play together.
Server Programmer (sPvP)

If a brand new Rank 1 player starts joining SoloQ, they get a temporary MMR of, say 1000 on a scale of 1 to 2000. (But their actual MMR should be about 100, let’s say.)
So they get matched in a group of average 1000 MMR. And they happily goof around in their first match and lose.
Does their MMR take only a small hit? Are therefore are they ready to jump right into another match… and ruin that one as well?
Or does their MMR get cut faster?
Rank is not used in MMR at all, but yes they should drop pretty quickly until they start getting grouped with people more near their skill level and the losing stops. If you’ve been playing long enough that the system is confident in your MMR then you should not drop as far as they would.

How is this a coincidence? It solo que and I thought you fixed matchmaking to balance out mmr. This happens more than not.
The way the system works this can now only happen in solo arena for one of two reasons. Either the MMR of the players lined up in such a way that when they were shuffled they ended up in teams like that, or they are using an exploit to team up.
I really doubt it’s the latter, but if anyone has any sort of evidence to suggest this please email exploits@arena.net. The former makes much more sense to me because MMR was just reset, putting everyone in that default starting area.

This is absolutely working as intended. The game wide rule (minus a bug or two that we are working on) is that once a skill has given you any of the benefits, canceling or interrupting that skill puts it on full cooldown. The alternative, in this case especially, is to be able to make yourself invulnerable for 2 seconds, cancel and then recast 4 seconds later which would be very broken.
Jon
Then wouldn’t it be more beneficial to players to just get the virtues at the start of Renewed Focus instead and ride out the invulnerability duration.
It might, however that is not the only consideration when creating a skill. In this particular instance the idea of refreshing virtues is powerful and we want you as a player to commit to this instead of casting and canceling right away. It is also flavorful in that you meditate for a few seconds to renew your focus not he other way around.
Jon
Hi All,
I have just posted this on the WvW and PVE forums. I am sure John will have his own concluding statements and it is up to him if he wants to run another thread on Monday for PvP:
First of all thanks to everyone for their comments and feedback. We have completed another round of learning and a new phase!
Secondarily i wanted to summarize the actions that we will be taking moving forward, which are as follows:
1: More Focused Topics! (Done!)
2: Build out more time for Devs to engage (This is already in progress)
3: Thread owner to post a summary every three pages
4: Post writers should aim to be concise and to the point using examples where necessary.
Thirdly we have our new topic: Commander Functionality which will be discussed on the WvW forums ensuring that the community members in this area are able to see a better example of the initiative in action (fingers crossed). This thread will go live Monday.
Once again, thanks everyone and I hope you having a great weekend.

I’m sorry, there just weren’t enough Necros to fill the other team as well.
We have several ideas on how to improve matchmaking, which should help prevent games like this. Look for a blog post and forum discussion in the near-ish future.

Is this team arena? If it’s solo arena I would say it was just a coincidence, but team arena can still produce matches like this. The only fix is to make you wait longer or require a full team when queuing.

Additional Patch Notes
- Added inventory option that renders borders about items colour coded to the item’s rarity

Chris,
Do you think that it would be possible to have a CDI with the Art Team on occasion? I think it would be fun to talk to them about armor and learn how they choose what to add, as well as learn what isn’t possible for them to do.
I think that’d be more suitable to an AMA-style event. I’m not terribly certain the average player could give really useful criticisms to the graphic artists and 3-d modelers. That would have to be far more technical in tone, y’know?
I wasn’t really thinking that such a topic would be on the same scale as the CDIs have been so far. I just think it would be nice to be able to communicate with the artists in the same way that we’ve been conversing with Chris and Bobby.
It would be nice to get some official answers to some of the armor questions that people have ben curious about.
Hi Video,
I will speak to Daniel about it and see what he thinks.
Hope you have had a good day.
Chris
Hi All,
We will be moving forward on Monday with the topic of Commander Functionality which will be housed in the WvW forums. I believe this to be the right approach at this time to ensure that the WvW CDI participants get a focused experience of the spirit of the initiative and how it is intended to work.
Following a week on this topic I will appraise how things went and decide what paradigm we will be moving forward with.
Either tomorrow or Friday i will list the CDI Evolution actions.
Thank you all for you comments and participation and I am looking forward to discussing the next topic with you all.
Chris
So you really want to discuss only one topic per week? I dont think it is good idea becouse it will just delay discussions about other same important topics. We should move forward not delay.
I am fairly sure what Chris means, is that there will be one topic for wvw now, because the previous one was a bit disappointing, and he wants to give the WvW CDI participants a “focused experience of the spirit of the initiative and how it is intended to work”.
After the one week (and with the experienced gained within the week), he will decide whether to continue with one or three topics at a time.
Yes can respect that. I just fear it may be less productive to run only one thread.
Hi,
I think it is worthwhile to do a single WvW focused topic with the appropriate coverage from Devs so we are all up to speed on the process and are able to connect appropriately.
Chris
the players who have alts is going to get 5 easy ranks for each alt. as a player who doesnt have any alts i want a 10 rank boost scrool. thank you
“All earned World XP on an account will be put into a single pool.
The sum of those points will determine the world rank and World Ability Points available to each character on the account."
;)
i am talking about the first 5 ranks which are easier
Rank WXP required for next rank
1 1000
2 1000
3 1000
4 2000
5+ 5000Yes I know, they are referring to Wxp, not Wranks, so basically they will take all wxp your characters have made and apply it to your account.
example :
I have 2 char rank 10 = my account will be rank 16
( not 20 )
Correct, that is exactly how it will work.
While I appreciate the change, it still leaves a bitter taste. This was asked months ago and it was said “we cannot do it”. Why do you lie? Was it because it wasnt possible technologically or because you believed it was the wrong thing to do?
We never said we couldn’t do it. We said we weren’t going to do it. There is a large difference between things that we decide to do for design reasons and thing that are technical constraints. This was the former and was never stated to be the latter.
Bug-Fixing
- Fixed a bug that would prevent Tower of Nightmares daily achievements from correctly awarding progress.
- Fixed a bug that would prevent the Fractal daily achievement from correctly awarding progress.
- The cannon barrage phases of the Captain Mai Trin boss fractal will only trigger once per health threshold.
- Added a waypoint to the Thaumanova Reactor story dungeon.
- Fixed an issue where the Archdiviner would sometimes not wake up from his stun phase.
- The radiation room in the Thaumanova Reactor fractal will no longer deal damage to defeated players.
- Players can no longer become stuck after jumping off the airship during the Captain Mai Trin boss fractal.
- Fixed a crash that would sometimes occur at fractal level 34.

WXP will be account bound soon.
We agree, hence we are doing it.

The thing is, we can’t make it an either/or situation, and the devs feel that the best course is to change the armor. It would be nice to say “Change if you want” but that’s not feasible. So the Flamekissed Armor Skin will be reworked. And when it is, you guys are welcome to share your thoughts and to let Customer Support know what they can do for you. (No, “a new car and a couple of free pizzas” isn’t going to be on the table.
)
I understand this is sort of a hot topic right now, but again, there’s nothing to lose by waiting for a look-see at the new armor set, and there may be something to gain! It’s certainly what I would do and I encourage you to think of doing the same.

Put everything in your bank. Everything that isn’t soul bound. Then you can delete your characters and move for free. Your gold, karma and other currency will move with you. Please check all your toons to make sure you have put everything in your bank before you do so. That includes taking the mythril box off your toon and into the bank.
This is correct. Just a small addition: If you joined a guild and made any contributions to the guild, those will remain on your home world. (For instance, if you contributed Influence to a guild on your current world, it will remain on that world.) Guild attainments and achievements do not move between worlds.

You know, in looking at all the situations with players and their different needs, I really believe the best course here is to wait for the introduction of the replacement armor set. From what I’ve been told, it’s going to be really nice. Please keep in mind we’ve already made it clear that Customer Support will try to resolve the individual concerns that you may have once the armor change is made. Each of you may have slightly different situations. But since the armor is not out now, and because we will be happy to address your concern after you’ve had time to appraise the new set, doesn’t it make sense to wait and see?

Your download speed will depend on a number of things: your network setup and connection method, whether or not you have a number of applications running, or your firewall might be slowing down the download rate by having to check all the data that goes through the Guild Wars 2 client. You might also have to open up the ports Guild Wars 2 uses (80, 443, 6112 and port 6600)to get the fullest speed you can.
^ This was my guess on the issue. I’d try disabling this application first and see if you’re still crashing.

Thanks for posting your resolution! Glad to hear you got this worked out.
Hi durpdurp,
Do you happen to have any security software enabled? This tends to happen a lot after a patch and is pretty common in a number of different games. When you put in an ‘allow’ rule for ‘Gw2.exe’, your security software pays attention to the version / size of those files. So when you patch, and the game files change, your ‘allow’ rules are no longer valid. You would have to remove any firewall/AV rules for both Gw2.exe and re-add them after each patch.
Hey there,
Thanks for the suggestions! I think we’d rather leave it up for the players to decide for themselves whether or not they still wish to purchase and try the game anyway despite not meeting the minimum requirements rather than saying, “No, you cannot play.”
As for my presence on the boards – sorry it’s so late! Unfortunately sometimes posts can get drowned out by others especially if there’s a lot going on at the moment so I don’t always see every thread. Your best bet is usually to submit a technical support ticket if you wish to speak with us one on one. It definitely would not take us a month to get back to you.

I’ve already spoken my piece on the 1 thread VS 3 threads question. Honestly, while I would prefer 3 threads (or even just 3 topics without a need to keep it specifically to the 3 “core” areas of the game), it really comes down to what ANet can do. We need real interaction in these threads moving forward and if the only way ANet can do that is to limit it to one thread at a time, then that’s probably the way to go.
FYI: Keeping you up to date (-:

Would you like us to discuss Population Imbalance again and then follow with Commander functionality?I would like to know / feel that the discussions of the pop imbalance thread are not just useless venting, but that some kind of action is going to be taken… If the only point of CDI is discussing, and nothing is actually being done… It’s a loss of time both for the players who give ideas and for the devs who are reading through it all.
We need some feedback on the previous CDI before we start another one on the same topic. We need to know what might be possible and what is off limit.Absolutely true. Without openness and willingness to involve players in the planning and design elements of the game, the CDI is pretty much a waste of time for everyone involved. Or, even if there are actual tangible results, with no known time frames and no clarity, there is certainly the appearance of it being a waste of time.
Hi Strider,
The CDI is a GW2 design discussion whereby our philosophies and ideas will evolve. We will not be going into any planning details. I am sorry if this gives the ‘impression’ that the exercise is a waste of time, i can only assure you that it is not, and over time the proof will be in the pudding as they say.
Chris
I believe what Strider was trying to put into context was that people are looking for some sort okittennowledge by the dev team that the suggestions they are making are in fact valid, and what sort of opinions or ideas you guys have at your round table and hope to put forward in the near future to appease all of these diverse opinions.
Without any sort of public acknowledgement of how our opinions are being interpreted, it makes people feel as though they are wasting their breath. Especially given the public reaction of the past 3 living story and content updates.
Hi Spawne,
Ah if that was indeed the case then i stand corrected and would like to point out that we did indeed do what you stated in the last PVE thread. We will talk about what we like and what we don’t think will work (with reasoning) and we will call it out when there has been a change in philosophy or an action. We just won’t go into detail about time frame etc.
I apologize Strider if i misunderstood you and thanks for calling this out Spawne.

Got the issue resolved. For anyone having the same issue: contact the support. Apparently Anet protects accounts form fraudulent purchases and sometimes this system flags accounts which results in “Finalizing the purchase” issues.
Great support experience though. No automated bot responses or anything of the sort. 10/10, keep it up guys!

Hey Sensotix,
Thanks for the write-up.
I’ve been seeing a lot of threads like this on the forums lately, often accompanied with an itemized list of suggestions or concerns. I think the reason we’re seeing them pop up so often is because people aren’t exactly sure what direction we’re heading in terms of PvP – and that’s understandable.
This thread is slightly ill-timed. I say that because, yet again, I have to say that we’re almost ready to release a ton of information on PvP, but we’re not quite there yet. Next Monday (after the long holiday weekend) we’ll be releasing a blog post that will road-map a great deal of things our team will be working on implementing through the end of this year and going into next year. This should address a lot of the concerns you’ve raised and answer many of your questions. Starting next week we’ll be able to engage in discussion regarding future changes like we’d like to.
After the blog post we’re going to take strides to keep you guys in the loop as much as possible. This is a big priority for our team. As I’ve mentioned in previous threads, we’re going to start running a bi-weekly livestream that will give updates on PvP, tournaments, balance updates/previews, and just about anything else PvP related. That should help fill the gaps. Plus, you guys will get to see my baby blues again.
As for the balance changes – I’m not a part of that team so I can’t speak on their behalf. I hop into meetings from time to time to give feedback on changes or to present feedback from the forums, but that’s about the extent of it. I will, however, pass the thread along to them in case they haven’t seen it already. (Hint: They probably have.)
Personally, I think the changes coming on December 10th will have a significant impact on our current meta. The full implications? I don’t think anyone can predict that quite yet. There may even be a few surprises in there…
Next year is going to be a great year and I’m happy that we have so many devoted and dedicated players that are coming along for the ride with us. For those of you that have drifted away from the game for one reason or another – I honestly hope we’ll see you in-game again.
GROUCH OUT!
Edit: Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

The quest markers will display the shortest path to the story start point, but don’t take into account which asura gates you have access to. The entry point for that story is in Mount Maelstrom, zoom out on your map and you should see a green story start at that point.
Voila! Proof positive: The devs listen! <3

There is a separate Living World team taking care of the Fractals issues, I suggest you post for the Daily Fractals Runner Achievement here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Bug-Daily-Fractal-Runner
As for Toxic Gardener, it will not complete for any player currently – we are working to get a fix for the issue out in the next Hotfix. This may not happen before the server daily roll over, so you may not be able to complete Toxic Gardener, but there will still be many more dailies to help you complete the Tower of Nightmares Meta achievement.
I just bought Gw2 and have had a fit trying to register the game. I used to have Guild Wars, but haven’t played the game in years. It would not let me register GW2 and I do not remember anything about the Guild Wars account and no longer even have the box game. So in order to register GW2 I had to create a new email account.
THIS IS BROKEN. Your support page requires all types of information that I don’t even remember e.g., my characters name. How in the world can I fix this so I can use my regular email address? If I’d have know it was going to be problem I’d have never bought this.
Simply provide the information you do have and the team will do its best to help you.

I want to thank forum members for providing some valuable information to packagedcrisps (love the name, btw!)
Ultimately, account security rests with the account holder. The fact that you were hacked again, even four months later, makes me wonder about the security of your entire computer.
Declining to do a second account restoration is a policy that rests, in part, with our not wanting to be put in the position of hack-reroll-hack-reroll, when that scenario can be abused (as mentioned above) by dishonest individuals and when that situation can do inestimable damage to the game economy, which affects all players.
Frankly, I’m thrilled we can offer account restorations at all, where I know other games don’t have the feature or added it long after we rolled it out (in Guild Wars). It’s a great service, but it must be used sparingly, so I hope you understand why we cannot accommodate your second request.
I’d also like to point out that the “delay” in responding to your request is not outside the norm for any game support team, and that things undoubtedly were going on in the background before you heard from an agent, such a checking access points, etc. Please know that a full and instantaneous response is not the norm with any support system.
We sympathize with your situation, and we have folks on staff who will try to help you enhance your personal security so that you are not hacked a third time. Please let the team know in your ticket if you’d like extra assistance in that regard.
I’m really sorry that happened to you and hope you’re back on your feet soon. I’ve found that other players and guildies are incredibly kind in aiding a player who has experienced this situation, and hope that is the case for you, as well.

Hey, everyone. We’ve been reading all your feedback about the Flamekissed Armor Skin that was released into the Gem Store yesterday.
Although the Flamekissed Armor uses the same mesh as the Tier 3 Human Cultural Armor, it was not our intention to create an armor skin that so closely matched the existing Tier 3 Human Cultural armor set. The intention was to use the mesh as a basis for creating an armor set that stands apart and is distinct in appearance. However, after reading your feedback, we agree that the Flamekissed armor is not visually distinct enough from Human Cultural Tier 3 armor.
We will do a few things to address this issue.
- We will temporarily remove Flamekissed Armor Skin from the Gem Store.
- Players who have purchased Flamekissed Armor Skin will keep the skin.
- We will make new art for the Flamekissed Armor Skin that achieves our goal of making a visually distinct and attractive armor set and does not closely resemble the Human Tier 3 Cultural armor.
- Once this new artwork is completed, we will then update the Flamekissed Armor Skin so that all existing sets that players have purchased get the new art. We will also offer the Flamekissed Armor Skin for sale again at that time.
- When we update the Flamekissed Armor Skins with the new artwork, any player that has already purchased the set and who does not like the new, updated look, can get a full refund by contacting Customer Support.
Note that there is no ETA on when this change will happen. We need to work with the Character Art Team to determine when we can have a new armor skin ready, and this could take some time.
Thank you everyone for providing your feedback. We appreciate that you took the time to let us know how you feel about the new armor set.
