Before there was a ready check there wasn’t a problem because you’d just hop into the match once you finished loading. Of course this meant more AFK players.
The servers were completely rewritten at the end of 2014, and now there more sophisticated requirements to getting the PvP servers in sync with the game servers wanting to pause/destroy your roster when you hit load screens. The more people queuing outside the mists without fixing this, the more likely people will start seeing problems like ‘random’ dishonor.
While it may appear to work, there are certainly technical hurdles to deal with before this could be a feature. If lots of people were doing this right now, there would be a lot of people hitting load screens and getting dishonor. It’s mostly related to technical jargon, but you’ll have to trust me that people would have bad times unless we fix some complicated things on the back end.
Thanks for this. I’m so happy you’re enjoying yourself!
Thanks for the report, and the helpful video! I’ve alerted the WvW team and they’re looking into it.
To me, repping a guild is a matter of honor. If I’m going to take the time to join a guild and find out about them, and they about me; if I’m going to invest my game time, gold, and mats with this guild, and they’re investing their time helping me, then I want to be proud to represent them.
It’s nice that guilds don’t have to require 100% repping anymore, and it gives their members a lot more freedom. But, as a guild leader, I’m watching to see what my guild members do, or don’t do, when thinking about to whom i should offer promotions. Just as I would rep my guild in order to show my pride in, and loyalty to, them, I would hope to see the same from my guild members.
I think it would be difficult to develop a tight-knit group if everyone is always off doing his or her own thing, with no thought to loyalty to those who ‘have your back’ so to speak.
I dunno, maybe I’m old fashioned in that regard.
100% this. You are not the only one.
I am proud to rep a guild. I agree with you both, it’s a matter of pride and honor. Granted I usually represent the dev guild, but even there, our guildies have worked hard to build up our Guild Hall, and my repping Anet is a sign of respect for everyone involved and of support for my fellow team members.
For the other guilds to which I belong, I represent as I’m playing with them, or when I visit with them, and again, it’s not for any sort of “reward” but a sign of commonality with everyone in the guild: We like this game, we like this group of people. For me, it’s really that simple.
GW1 has different keys for each of the different regional chests. The difference is, lock picks open any chest.
Well, except the Zaishen Chest, right?
This is a very interesting discussion. It’s clear there are a variety of opinions about the subject, but the feedback is valuable on many levels.
I’ve passed along the thread link so that team members are aware of this ongoing conversation. I do not anticipate that a dev would be posting here in the immediate future, but please don’t take silence for inattention, and do post to share your thoughts!
Thanks.
Assuming all goes well with testing, we should have a fix for this in the next patch.

The algorithm is explained here:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Matchmaking_Algorithm#Match_PredictionTranslate please
The average ladder position, rank, mmr, and max party size from each team is compared. The further away these are, up to the maximum specified in the configuration, the more skewed the odds. Each component counts for a different amount of the prediction. For instance, ladder position counts for 5/8th the prediction.

I already did such a request (except the “exact pip number”) about a month ago :p
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/api/Request-for-pvp-games-and-pvp-stats
Ah fair. I’ve been trying to move “the list” out of my head and into a proper system (i.e., github issues) so that stuff doesn’t get lost. Apparently some stuff got lost :<
The image returned for Unidentified Dye https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/items/20323 is a 256×256 image, as opposed to the more standard 64×64 for nearly every item I’ve pulled information on.
Yep, that’s just how content works. The game resizes it internally.

For the record who voices Laranthir? Cause I’m pretty sure it’s Trey Parker
Good guess (GW2 would be a very different game with Trey in the mix, wouldn’t it?), but Laranthir is voiced by the one and only Crispin Freeman.
there is a definite area limitation similar to how wvw siege is capped at 5 pieces in any ring of radius 1500ish. the limit on decorations is more like 15-20 in 1000 radius or so, but it is a frustrating thing to fight against when trying to go crazy with building jps or other things. (speaking from experience!)
But let’s be fair! We don’t want you blowing the heck out of your enemies by using that lethal potted plant!
More seriously, though, I understand about the area limit. We’ll see what there is to learn about it.
The season is currently configured to end on the 26th at 00:00 UTC. This would be at the 4pm reset on the 25th PST. There will be a 1 hour grace period to allow matches to end before rewards for the guild team leader board are distributed.
Based on another thread which asks specifically about area and not overall limitations, I’ll see if there’s information to provide on this subject.
Editing to add that the “area limitation” question is also the first in this thread.
Hey Gaile, any news, or plans on eliminating the decoration limit in areas? it really stifles creativity
I believe the limit on decorations is a practical matter, just as storage and other things also have limits. If you think about it, having no limits might result in huge “bloat” as someone acquired 5 gazillion items or 3.4 bazillion storage slots.
I will ask, to be sure I’m speaking accurately, but I believe that limits are required on a lot of different things as a practical element of development. Or… are you asking about limits within specific areas of the map? Before I ask, I should get clarification on your question. Thanks!
That’d be pretty cool. I made a tracking issue for it (kinda surprised there wasn’t already one).
Created a handful of tracking issues:
Seems reasonable; I created a tracking issue on github for this.
Hi,
one of my Trading Post transactions (its id: 1489725948) has item_id 69595; however https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/items/69595 says that there is not item with such id.
The same situation with: 69023 (transaction: 3355254320); 69445 (transaction: 3355006952) and 69430 (transaction: 3353027601).
Those items all have no name and the “under construction” working sign icon, so they were likely blacklisted from the API. It does look like they’re acquirable (via the jungle pvp reward track) so I’ll poke someone about that.
Thanks for the heads up.
EDIT: Turns out the issue was just on my end; went ahead and whitelisted those items. They should show up in the API at some point.

After investigating, it looks like our recent fix for invulnerable walls was only applied to the walls at Stonemist Castle, and wasn’t applied to effect the other objectives. The full fix will go out at the next opportunity. We also have a solution to the flickering and phantom walls in the Desert Borderlands.
Soon™
fixed
Thank you. Also the changes should be live.
Can i ask what the changes are ?
Because i am afraid to solo Q again and lose 17 pips in a row
Division range per-match should be much smaller.

We are still watching this thread to determine configuration changes for ladder search range.
I still insyst that that you need to repay players for makeing this change now. Whole idea of mmr change was great but you should’ve wait to the end of season. Right now we have kinda random system who can give to your team anybody in your divison. Now even if you are good player your blocked from reaching higher divisions, because new mmr needs to adjust (to start giving you fair matchups) and probably it might start working at very the end of season.
It would be great if you could give ppl some pins at the end of this season (as little sorry for this guys). For example one pin for every earned division.
There have been no changes to the way MMR matchmaking works. The two changes we made were: Parties use highest division and the division search range expands more to shorten queue times.
Sorry for misunderstanding:) My point is: Still you made a change that started this thread, change was to early and loads of ppl are loseing their hard earned pins because of this… right now…and it’s depresing me.
I see! We’re actively working on this issue as best we can and expect to see improvement soon!
Mercenary’s Amulet
1050 Power
1050 Condition
560 Toughness
560 VitalityPls.
Valid concern – it’s the amulet that I’ll be watching the closest. We’re going to give it a shot and if things don’t work out we won’t hesitate to remove it.
- Removing bunker amulets is a dream come true! Great job.
Give it week 1 of Season 2 and it will be “This is no fun… I just die in 2 seconds constantly to this <insert burst spec here>, wish I could build more defensive”
That’s a potential risk, but that’s also why we’re putting these changes in weeks before the next PvP League season. If we get an early indication that things aren’t going the way we want them to we’ll have time to make any needed changes.

do i get my money back for buying the runes/amulets?
Any sigil/rune/amulet you purchased you’ll get refunded for. The new amulets we’re adding will be free since we’re removing a number of other core amulets.
Hi all,
We’re planning on making some changes to amulets/sigils/runes available in PvP for the Winter 2016 Update (January 26). Some of these changes will greatly affect the way that PvP is played, so I wanted to take this opportunity to get the changes in front of everyone, discuss the implications as a group, and see where we net out. Most of these changes are easily reversible, so don’t view this as a “forever change”, but rather something we’ll tweak until we get PvP’s gameplay closer to our vision for it. These changes will go out prior to our next season PvP League season, so if we identify a change that isn’t accomplishing our goals we’ll have time to address it before the season begins.
You’ll note that a lot of the changes below are directed at more defensive stat combos/items. Our intent is not to eradicate this type of gameplay, but simply to improve the pace of gameplay overall.
Runes
We’ll be removing the following runes from PvP:
Sigil Changes:
Amulet Changes:
We’ll be adding the following amulets:
Mercenary’s Amulet

1050 Precision

I have noticed a lot of changes to my matches as well. One side will be all ruby with maybe a diamond and the other side will be ruby, sap, emerald, amber mix. I get that you get placed based on the highest person in your group as per the most recent snap shot but it also seems like when that happens, it forms a team based on any range of ranks within that pairing. Almost like the group rating equals 1 or two tiers higher than the lowest rank. So basically, not only does the “party” get’s upleveled but the “team” get’s downleveled.
This is a product of the parties with high rank players waiting longer in queue because we’re not using the lower average rank anymore. The longer they sit in queue, the wider the ladder position search range becomes.
Ok, thanks for the update guys. I’ll let you know when I find out more.
We are still watching this thread to determine configuration changes for ladder search range.
So basically “cannot comment on it” – but what’s odd, to me, is that he commented on it 2 months ago. Which implies to me (tinfoil hat time) that there was a change on the subject matter.
Actually, there’s been no change. We’re always looking at ways to improve the game, and LWS1 is just one of many potential projects that gets discussed periodically. Feel free to speculate (and continue to express support for the things you’d like to see), but ultimately you should refer to official announcements for things like this. Thanks!
Bugfix in place according to this:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-August-11-2015
Correct. Let us know if anything isn’t working in regards to this. Thanks!
VoD is still bugged. my wife is trying to finish her story line and she cant interact with the cannons. i’m putting this up because…. well, its better if i do it. (this is the 2nd story line that has crashed on her in a week)
Are you and your wife still experiencing issues with the cannon interactions in Victory or Death? This was fixed a while ago and shouldn’t be happening.
Unfortunately there really isn’t a way to not fix it for everyone (sorry for the double-negative). That being said, knowing the icy mist effect is something people want, we could look in to ways to get it into the game in another manner later down the road.
We’ve avoided adding this feature because we don’t believe it would be healthy for WvW. While we can appreciate why some players would want a feature like this, lots of other players only engage in WvW when, upon entering a WvW map, immediately see a commander icon to follow. We try and avoid adding features that can be used to intentionally exclude other players.
Thanks for the reports, everyone. We have identified the problem and are working on a fix. No need to change guild halls (unless you want to of course).
Thanks for copying over the patch note, briggah! Everyone, please let us know if you continue to see this issue in EBG.
As you may have read in today’s update notes, the decoration restriction in the upper area of the Gilded Hollow guild hall has been removed. This means that you will be able to address any issues that your guild hall had with decorations being accidentally embedded in the topmost areas of the hall.
However, you should know that in order to retrieve those decorations, you’ll need to use the “Clear Decorations” option for your guild hall. This will remove all decorations and allow you to reposition each of them. The team investigated other ways to address this issue, and programmatically, the “Clear Decorations” option is the only one that is feasible. We apologize for any inconvenience that this change may present you.
Bug Fixes:
I looked into the match from the OP and we are making some configuration changes based on it that should improve matchmaking for unranked and ranked.
Confirmed: We play our game.
Personally, I play every day after work and on weekend, too. (I did a lot of Toypocalypse over the holidays — man I love that as much as Dragon’s Nest in Guild Wars!) Anyway, when I’m online I see many of my fellow Anet folks online, too! We’re an active bunch.
As others have pointed out, for tracking or chat recording or other purposes, we don’t need bots. As the saying goes, “We have the technology.” (Bonus points for knowing the source.
)

I have seen Gaile Gray play a million times
She is often seen in LA near the MF. Just chillin… :p I remember around halloween this past year i was chatting to her, and I told her something like pretty please make some cute butterfly crystal looking weapons to go with my fab butterfly wings, and presto not even a few weeks later they were there in the BlackLions Specialist Weapons and I was so thrilled to see them in display
I was like yaaaaiiii Gaile listened to me :p (that or they had already had an idea such as the one i gave her…) still that was the best day ever
Oh gosh, while I would love to be the "ask and ye shall receive* Wonder Woman™, the fact is, those were in the works, I’m sure, because things like that take quite a bit of time to create, including art, animation, sometimes sound, programming, etc.
So thanks for the nod, but I must humbly decline to take credit here.
Edit to add: RouterGeeks — George will be so chuffed that he is also pictured in that image. He’s incredibly proud that he bears the ArenaNet tag.
(edited by Gaile Gray.6029)
Arrow carts have a special type of line-of-sight calculation. This type of calculation allows for shooting from the top of walls to the bottom of walls, even from farther back on the walls. This is because in standard line of sight you would have to build the arrow cart right up on the edge of the wall which makes the arrow cart effectively worthless as targeting them down is trivial.
Sidenote: This is true for all of WvW and is unrelated to the new maps. You will see the same thing in Eternal Battlegrounds.
Seems reasonable. Created a tracking issue on Github.
The quip rifle was a weapon wielded by Scarlet during one of the LW1 events (I think Queen’s Jubilee?). I shouldn’t have made it to the API, but that was before we put a manual whitelist step in front of stuff. It’s kept in for compatibility purposes (??) but I’m thinking of going through and re-blacklisting a lot of broken stuff in there at some point.
The fix for this is scheduled to be in an upcoming release.
