I like it.

The highest tier of salvaging should have a cost barrier, otherwise it makes getting those legendary parts trivial and meaningless. Looking forward to salvaging my 400 or so rings when i finish downloading the patch.

So what if someone is not interested in the legendaries? I couldn’t care less about them, so rings are still utterly useless to me.

Your options are:
1. Sell unneeded ascended items to vendor for +coins
2. Salvage unneeded ascended items for Legendary crafting for -coin -relics

Seems pretty reasonable to me. You’re only salvaging if you are working on a Legendary and those are SUPPOSED to be expensive.

Except, selling them to vendor gets you less gold (silver) than what you could get from a rare or exotic ring (which you can salvage).

Then in this case, one would rather have rare rings than the ascended ones, how does that make sense from a design perspective?

If you haven’t bought HoT, is it worth it to salvage rings?

My understanding is that you get Stab matrices or whatever for a fotm mastery track/line/trait. But, if I have heaps of rings, and salvage them, will I even be able to use them? I has a hope I’m wrong

No, it’s not worth salvaging them even with HoT masteries unlocked, especially since we don’t even know how much of those materials we’re going to need atm.

A few things didn’t seem to work in the raid:
- We could rezz even full dead members while still fighting the guardians
- It was easy to get out of combat, while others were fighting the guardian. Even when i was still in range for the blue guardians aoe of doom, i instantly got out of combat after that attack.

Feedback about the guardians (our guild took down all three Color-Guardians, but got kicked out once we wiped at the 4th boss):
- Green one: He doesn’t seem to have any special mechanic to him? At least we just ganged up and beat him down, without any trouble, as far as i could tell.
- Blue one: this one gave us a bit of trouble, until we finally found out when his aoe of doom happens, and how to make him vulnerable. Don’t know why, but shouldn’t the blue orbs disappear with his death? Made the fight with the red one a bit harder.
- Red one: We first started with the wrong gear, after we changed that he fell, that there were blue and red orbs made it harder, but with coordination on a (more or less) chaotic level it was still doable. Don’t know how i feel about having to get a second set of ascended. But maybe we just missed a mechanic?

What i really liked: Summoned Creatures seemed to be immune against all of the bosses effects and aoe, which let them really shine.

The Guardians aren’t bosses so the rezzing isn’t disabled for them, neither is resetting them or running away and getting out of combat.

You can’t do any of those at the Vale Guardian, however. A short while after you engage him, walls spawn around the arena and everyone stays in combat until you all full-wipe (even players who stayed outside the arena).

You are wrong in terms of PvP, I was watching 1v1 arenas and it’s the strongest skill of the Revenant for that.

I don’t like the design however, why does it split to multiple targets? It feels like it’s punishing you when there’s more than one enemy (including pets), and it shouldn’t be that way because that’s a silly condition for a skill to be good.
They should just make it target-only and balance its damage around that. Also, full-time evade might be too strong for PvP, maybe it should not evade during the ~0.5s windup animation it has? Otherwise there are no simple counters, you can’t run away, double-dodging is too wasteful, and you can’t interrupt it.

And while we’re talking about the skill itself, why isn’t it showing the total damage per target as all other Flurry-like skills do (Pistol Whip, Blurred Frenzy)?

Remove Mai Trin

I talked to Sesshi a while ago about it as well, and I’m pretty sure it always happens to me when cannon shots are aimed

  • at locations that are out of the cannon’s LoS – then the cannon shots hit the obstacle on the way and spawn there instead of the telegraphed spot.
    This happens in my example, you can even see the cannon shots from Mai’s tower aimed behind the tower I’m standing near.

  • on players that are not standing on the even terrain – ie. jumping or standing on a bump or lower terrain when they are aimed at.

Basically when a cannon starts fire, it does the following:

  • choose a player
  • randomly choose a firing pattern (sometimes a “cross” for example)
  • save player’s location, telegraph pattern on ground exactly at that location
  • shoot the actual curved-path projectiles, aimed at the telegraphed location, which might hit obstacles on the way, or pass through the targeted location if it’s not solid (ie. it was mid-air)

We agreed with Sesshi that he never has it is because he doesn’t go near walls/obstacles much. Still a lame and buggy mechanic, though, and having to do that narrows down the moving room even more.

It might be a hard fix however. What they should definitely do, though, is fix the cannon shots (both Horrik and cannon phase), so they don’t damage player hitboxes they pass through (see: first few seconds of https://gfycat.com/DampDeliriousBlackrussianterrier ), only their impact location they are aimed at. It’s irritating as hell and doesn’t make the fight more interesting or skillful.

The Mai Trin one looks like the 2nd case I described, when the shots were aimed at you, you were on higher ground (small rock due to fgs3).

The Molten Duo one is fairly unrelated, it’s just a bug where Firestorm’s AoE’s just last a lot longer than their animations. You can actually catch how the animations for that AoE despawn at the start of your VoD, the actual field just lasts longer because reasons.

There is nothing fun about this fight. I’ve been rolling it way too often lately. It’s gotten to the point that every time I think about playing fractals I expect to roll this fight.

I rarely die on this fight. It’s just that for some reason it’s really annoying and exhausting.

I find it fun.

Out of curiosity, how often do you do fractals? Because that seems to be a major part in how different people feel about the fight. For perspective, I’ve been doing 20/30/40/50 tour almost every day for the past 2-3 months or so, and the time gated fractals are all at least mildly frustrating.

Mai is one of the worst offenders with at least a 3min time gate for cannon phases and about 30s for the dialogs. Potentially more if Horrik doesn’t open with his lightning shots after each phase.

Both mai trin and horriks electroshot are actually super likely to aggro high defense characters. Put some toughness on your guard or war and theyll stick to you like glue.

That worked like a year ago at least

You’d need exactly 1 tanky player and 4 without toughness for that to work even remotely.
There’s practically no way they intended that to be the way to do it, they never tried forcing people into specific stats for dungeons. It’s not even about zerker gear, what if multiple people in your party run tanky builds? It becomes just as unreliable as with a full zerker party.

The video is nice but it doesn’t really offer any insight on when and why the enemies teleport around sometimes. Like, when standing on the small rock after SE p3’s first boss.

I also believe that many pathing mobs are a bit more complex than described. What I noticed with at least the ones at the start of HoTW p1-3 and SE p3 is that they always first run to the exact same location and then they run at a nearby player. If you leave the instance or waypoint away early, they (still) run up to that “rally spot” and do nothing afterwards instead.

What I wish would happen with Mai Trin is that when you remove all of her stacks and push her to 75% 50% and 25% hp she will either get stronger or new skills, and regain her stacks along with the cannons firing periodically throughout the fight, but just way less often. After each phase, the cannons would increase in frequency.

That would make this fight more interesting. Too bad it will not happen.

Seconded. Time gated content becomes frustrating over time, see Aetherpath and Molten Furnace (thought those ones are even more gated).

  • The fight is not hard at all in a competent party with the speedrun strategy, unless you are the one kiting. You just brain AFK and keep blasting stealth every 10s, occasionally dropping an Ice Bow and bursting Mai.
  • Whatever arguments you might have about it being hard, just remember, after over a year, you can still relog and get back inside alive any time. Unless your entire party dies the same time or you have insane load times, there’s virtually no way to fail the fight.
  • It’s awfully designed with the random aggro from Horrik. Yes, strong teamwork should be encouraged, but when soloing a boss feels much better than doing it with 4 random non-terrible players, something is wrong. The complete lack of controllable aggro is a huge oversight for this fight.
  • The canon phase is one of the buggiest and clunkiest PvE encounters of the game.
    Getting hit outside AoE circles by shots passing through your hitbox?
    Cannon shots impacting at other locations than the circles telegraph?
    Here’s an example. I’ve died countless and countless time to random crap like that, a lot more than to legitimately messing up dodges or blocks. It ruins whatever fun the bossfight could be for me: “oh, another cannon phase, let’s roll the dice again on getting randomly hit”

Not really, definitely can’t replace an ele in terms of DPS and utility. What you could argue for is replacing thief, but the places where you really want thief are:

  • Urban (stealth skips, engineer doesn’t have enough without waiting for recharge)
  • Dredge (stealth speedrun strategy with traited SR)
  • Mai Trin (permastealth)
  • Jade Maw (SR for dark field)

Engineer can’t exactly replace it in any of those. And thief has faster Defiance stripping. I enjoy playing with a good engineer, but it’s not on par with thief, unless you don’t get any of those 4 fractals.

I would only agree with Mai Trin and Maw part (the latter is arguably an exploit anyways).

P.S. Yes, DPS wise no class can compete with staff ele

  • Dredge:
    It’s done using consumables, that’s already shaky ground, but do you think pug engineers know that skip? And even if they do, the rest of the party does? And even then, that they all have the consumables for it? All in an LFG party? That just won’t happen. Don’t forget, we’re talking about accepting random engineers into pugs.
    That run still also takes half the time with thief, is a lot more failsafe since you instantly open 2nd gate with a teleport and do Haste+SR on console.
  • Ascalon:
    Showing them “skipping” when they get the shortest path which requires a single blast proves nothing. If they had to go on a long road, which is the case ~80% of the time, they would have to sit around waiting for Smoke Bomb to recharge, or run through without stealth, which is messy in pug parties as hell.

Unfortunately, this seems to have developed into the newest trend on the lfg. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for smooth runs, but excluding half the classes – perfectly viable ones amongst them – because some wiki says so is taking it a step too far for PUG’s in my opinion.

Personally, I can only see this as the inexperience (incompetence?) of the players listing such requirements. Reminds me a bit of the DoA ursan days back in GW1.

Can only hope that the trend will pass and stick to guildies/friends meantime.

I don’t think it’s because a wiki says so, do you really think most of the LFG players would read something like that?

It’s because they joined a “metazerk” party at some point and had a decent run, so they want to replicate that. Granted, even with all the proper meta builds, many players just suck at playing them anyway, so it’s no guarantee.

Mesmer can replace any guard with his reflects, null field, portal and time warp. Why are these still unpopular?

In fractals: Aegis. It lets eles channel their Meteor Shower and Ice Storm without having to interrupt with dodging. Usual Aegis value is anywhere between blocking a 6-14k hit and CC/conditions. Mesmer can’t top that convenience. And there are relatively few good portal spots in fractals to abuse.

Feel My Wrath is also superior to Time Warp in most cases. In one Time Warp CD you can use Feel My Wrath 8 times. That’s 40s quickness and 1min20s fury vs. 10s quickness & 10s slow. And long quickness isn’t as beneficial to ele DPS as a shorter one every 30s, since it only greatly boosts your DPS with Meteor Shower and Ice Storm, your Lava Fonts have static CD. Slow has very varying value, on some bosses it can be downright detrimental (since it changes dodge timings) and at some it’s pretty useful, but on average it isn’t worth 30s less quickness in fractals.

All this being said, if you joined my LFG party instead of a thief and I knew you were running the proper PvE build, I really wouldn’t care enough to bother replacing you – it’s close enough for a pug party.

You might be right about the forcefield not deactivating after Old Tom dies though.

It might, or it might not.

The Atherblade fractal can be entirely bugged out by deactivating the second set of laser traps too early (although sometimes when you deactivate them too early, it just doesn’t turn them off, but lets you complete the fractal). When this happens, you can progress ‘as normal’ (other than the traps still being active, which isn’t a sure-sign the fractal is bugged out), except when you kill the end boss you don’t get a transit prompt.

So you might get to the end boss, and it not activate. Or it might activate and you can kill it, but not get the option to progress. Or it might work as normal. Who knows?

We’ve had it bugged once by accident, took about 5 minutes to get Ellen through the lazer field alive for the final boss entry, but the fractal worked fine afterwards.

On topic: how do people find these teleport spots, now I feel motivated to randomly spam my teleport all over fotm in hopes of finding something.

Just out of curiosity, this set wouldn’t ban casting AoE spells on walls and high points to compress the AoE, right? The rule below is the closest it gets to that in the rules, but this doesn’t require any sort of movement.

Yes, it is normal to have 1-2 weapons that have low damage. However revenant doesn’t have many weapons left and so far all four of them have godly awful base damage on every skill.

Even damage modifiers will not fix that without breaking out-of-profession skills like picking up an Ice Bow.

I also agree revenant deserves weapon swap – you only get access to an extra 5 skills with the second legend, most of which are restricted to niche roles and aren’t “weapon skill” types. Compare that to how many extra skills elementalist (3x 5) or engineer (potentially 4x 5 + 5 on toolbelt) gain, it’s nowhere near that.

I messed around with the mobs at the start of HoTW p1 and p2 and they don’t work like the risen from Miku’s video:

  • Once you cross a trigger area they start walking to that location.
  • If you instantly waypoint after triggering their movement they will just run to the location and stop there.
  • If there are players nearby when they get to the location, they will move on them, I guess?
  • Can confirm they walk back to their spawnpoint after a long while.

Also did some tests in SE p3, the Bombers only port with you if you agro 1-2 of them before waypointing (the ones that didn’t agro you and still had pathing AI will follow, the rest stays). Here’s a quick example: https://gfycat.com/ColossalOrangeAtlanticridleyturtle

What about the Champion Risen Knight in Arah p4? How does its AI work exactly? I don’t remember it “pathing” to players normally, but in goated p4 runs I remember seeing it port on players after they’ve done the orb events. How does that work?

There’s another version of this, where you do get the prompt, but once everyone readies up, the server fails to create the next map; someone in the party even gets an Error Window saying the server failed to create a new instance.

I don’t want to rely on the OP to constantly update his post, so I am keeping track of these bugs separately. Please keep reporting unique issues and I will collate them all together and report them directly to the developers. The following is my list so far.

  • [All] The game seems to not be rewarding all dungeon chests or end of path reward chests, even if you haven’t done dungeons in many days.
  • [CoF p1] Ferrah cannot continue after the Slave Driver event, breaking the path (we somehow managed to unbug her but not sure how).
  • [HoTW p1] Aldus Stormbringer’s adds don’t all turn hostile now, they run around as friendlies and occasionally turn hostile. They also dodge around.
  • [Arah] Lupicus’s Necrid Bolt auto-attack hits in melee range.
  • [Arah] There seems to be a strange pathfinding bug whereby mobs are teleporting into Giganticus Lupicus’s arena. See this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVP9_6r98SM
  • [Arah] Lupicus is failing to track his targets like he used to when using skills, causing skills like his Necrid Trap (Bubble) and Shadow Step to miss their targets by wide margins.
  • [Arah p4] The Grenth event never finishes when the last wraith is killed.
  • [CoE p2] The Husk event never finishes.
  • [Fractals – Thaumanova] The eastern event where you have to break open the doors to save the Asuran engineers is broken insofar as the door to the collider is open even if you never save any of the engineers.
    If there is something dungeon/fractal related that is broken as a result of this patch, especially blocking bugs, please post in this thread to let me know.

Two things I noticed in my last CoF p2 run:

  • When someone tried to solo Magg’s search for magmacyte and everyone WPed to the entrance, the npc joined us at the wp. We all had to cross the magma field to continue. Not sure if it’s an anomaly, or a fix.

Not new.

This has never happened to my parties since I started staying with Magg at the Oracite node until he finishes his dialog, and waypointing only then. It loses at most a couple seconds so it’s definitely worth the time instead of occasionally having to waste 3-5 minutes.

And you should also be able to watch multiple categories at the same time. Generally, people look for any fractal in the 50 to 11 category (those can give ascended rewards), but you have to look into a specific category and can’t view all of them.

You should have a checkbox-like option to select which daily tiers you want to see.

  • [Not properly tested rumor] Many bosses have had their cone-type skill’s angle range increased (hitting near their sides too).
    Sure-shot Seamus (CM p3)
    Mage Crusher (Arah p3)
    Operative Brie (Arah p2)
    Searing Effigy (CoF p1)
  • [AC] /[CM] /[TA] Power downscaling formula tweaked
  • [Snowlind Fractal] The object creating the swirling wind attack at the Elemental Source can no longer be killed by Ice Spike (wide range AoE).
  • [Thaumanova fractal]
    Turrets in turret room of don’t work anymore. Projectile seems to explode right on top of it.
    The debuff from saving the researchers fixed to apply properly.

Did a clear reinstall of Gw2 and moved the executables from C:/Guild Wars 2 into D:/ and suddenly it worked. I guess maybe they don’t like C:/ direct subfolders?

However, it refuses to work with SweetFX, any solutions to that? (since it’s only “some” people reporting problems) I really hate this game without it ;_;

Yes I am using Windows 8.1 & nothing looks like a problem from frifox’s notes – his app is not “saying” anything, just injects and crashes the client. Dx says I have the newest version and Visual Studio has already installed C++2013.

The injector is doing nothing for me after being launched. Notes:

  • I don’t think I have any C++ redists installed from 64bit anymore
  • Tried both the alt and crtl versions
  • Always running Gw2.exe in windowed mode
  • Both programs are being run as admin
  • Not using steam or any other overlay; tried with sweetfx disabled, no change
  • Sometimes a popup will ask me if gw2dps.exe worked correctly, but saying no and troubleshooting changes nothing

edit: manual injecting just crashes with KERNELBASE.DLL in the Report Crash window.

Bugs like utility switching are annoying, but entire dungeons crashing is just ridiculous. This gamebreaking bugs (maps throwing everyone out, or just not loading the next one) would be fixed in hours if this was open world or PvP. Losing 20-60 minutes (for more casual parties) of progress is just lame.

Similar thing happened to us twice in 4 fractal runs. This rate is downright depressing, unless we’re extremely unlucky.

Pressed Ready after done with a fractal, loading screen appears, the ModelLoadCompletion stays at 0% for about 30s, then everyone in the party gets disconnected messages and the instance is destroyed. Sayonara 20 minutes of play.

Arah p3 – haven’t tested much, but the Wraithlord’s Crusher did not turn red when we left a player behind with the NPC, even after that player finally caught up.

Our L50 run just bugged out – after Underground Facility, we didn’t get ported into the next instance, and the party member who entered 1st got some kind of “Instance creation failed” message. We had to restart completely.

Also, is it just me noticing generally less responsive instances in fractals (eg. longer load times inbetween, a lot more disconnects, etc.)

‘If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it’ I believe the term typically goes. In this case it’s ‘If we believe its broken, break it more’.

While general bashing seems to be the trend, I don’t believe this is the reason things broke.

Clearly, they changed something about how cutscenes/NPC AI triggers, with dungeons not in mind. Not an excuse for not testing any of these paths though, it really can’t be that hard with GM commands and skills.

HotW just feels like the devs had cool plans for it and then just went complete lazy-mode instead in the end.

Has a lot of your typical pathetic 2-3skill bosses with close to no mechanics/telegraphs and lots of HP, only exception being Svarnirgandr. Also, underwater… with the shifting away from it, the bosses should’ve just been moved to ground long time ago (if only there was anyone caring about dungeons).

The only thing I hate about the troll is that every single skill it has is unblockable, without the game itself telling you beforehand. This is obviously incredibly confusing to non-veteran players, and even if you’re experienced, it’s just annoying to feel like your usual support tactics are negated.

Many core mechanics (aegis, reflections, absortion) are literally useless in the fight and so are a lot of native damage mitigation methods. Hell, its untelegraphed fear is even undodgable – talk about making a lame fight.

The reason it’s so easy is the super-low HP pool, you can easily kill it before people run dry on dodges and stability.

Exactly. Every non-worldrecord party ever wants to have a warrior just for banners, no other profession is that mandatory for dungeon runs.
When you can negate (in some cases) all boss attacks for up to 44s just by slotting 2 utilities as a guardian, the design of both the bosses and skills is just terrible – what makes these skills overpowered in PvE is the fact that bosses don’t move and so you don’t feel the drawback of having these stationary fields.

5# no more double numbers spots on bosses.

This is the only one I agree with, it’s a ridiculous oversight with object-type boss design that they neglected to fix since forever.

Don’t range, it destroys the point of soloing and Belka reflects projectiles 20% of the time.

And she spams balls at you if you’re at farther range than her cone attack.

Really? :O Few times I have soloed it I don’t think I bothered with them and was able to progress still completely fine. But I probably remember wrong.

You can’t even get through the 1st fog curtain with Stability as there is an invis wall.

And fireballs are a non-issue if you have one of the four: mesmer/guard/thief/ele.

Really? I could have sworn that his fireballs were not reflectable. I’ll have to try that out again sometime.

They fly from very high-up, so wall/curtain/smokescreen is often not tall enough for a lot of them, but standing inside Swirling/Feedback/Shield means you’re pretty much safe from them.

One thing you can do with wall/smokescreen is jump when their cast is about to finish so they become a bit taller, that can help a lot.

Can you dodge out of burning retreat/ele fire dagger 3, those are the only movement abilities I can think of that don’t put you in the air or aren’t instant (flashing blades/JI are instant).

  • You can’t dodge out from any skills that forcefully try to move your character (by moving I mean excluding teleports). Other examples – warrior greatsword #3 (it does evade but you cannot interrupt it with pressing dodge), Flanking Strike or Bull’s Rush.
  • Flashing Blade isn’t instant as it has a motion-animation attached to it, the tooltip is misleading – similarly to Wall of Reflection.
  • Being instant or not has nothing to do with being able to cast mid-air or not from my experience, it’s just a weird flag that exists on some skills and not on others. Although I’ll admit most skills of the kind are instant.

The point is the boss not being in the wall which does happen, especially since fgs4’s patches attempt to “push” most monsters away, except for the big ones.

ANet tried to fix this in the past for WvW and PvP for these very reasons but Fiery Rush remains.

No, they haven’t. They fixed the teleport+rush version, which they claimed was an exploit from the start.

Nerfing it outright isn’t a hard thing to do, they’d just have had to reduce a single coefficient number somewhere in their database. Not having done that was a clear choice they followed on for over a year, as people grew more and more comfortable with using it, to the point where it’s so overused a lot of players got upset over it.

Are all PvErs this naive? Or is it a unique gift?

What if I told you that comments that generalize with all don’t add to the convincing power of any point you’re trying to make.

I, for one, can’t wait to see a CoE1 speedclear without FGS especially when the 3rd Alpha gets that nasty healing bug.

Spam general AoE, Static Fields, Ring of Warding, done.

Ashym conjures a wall behind the players and proceeds to FGS into it.

Wouldn’t make a difference, he already kills one player 100=>0 with just 1-2 patches of fire hitting. His add should get an Ice Bow instead.

And as far as ranger auto attack, I think that was an unintended thing. In a Wildstar prerelease talk they mentioned it being a technical limitation that GW2 can’t have actions initiate while in the air, and that’s what prevents dodging with ranger sword auto. And I’ve seen a lot of PVP people talking about how they like that leap in the auto attack, so it’d be nice if they gave them another primary melee weapon, the buffs to axe look interesting but it’s damage output just seems low.

Personally the SAB thing really irks me though, I want to play that so badly.

Wrong. Check Spectral Walk/Flashing Blade/Judge’s Intervention/Save Yourselves to only list a few.

The reason is, animations that move your character cannot be interrupted by dodging, and ranger attacks technically work like those (Savage Leap, Leap of Faith, Heartseeker). They should just disable the moving part and make them normal cleaving attacks like what other profession sword skills have.

Clockheart, spews Toxin and the gears strip boons, which have twice the density. In addition, you have to kill randomly spawning Toxin canisters before they detonate or they’ll start to fill the room with Toxin gas.

I don’t see how that’d stop a party from FGS’ing it down in 10s?

They should have just done this ages ago. Why would you have to specifically get another “helm” and rune just for underwater? You’re not even told (and so a lot of people don’t know) that it replaces your helm.

And to top it off, you can’t even get an exotic or ascended one (even the rare ones have limited stat combos), which screws with agony resist and general stats.
