I’m a huge fan of this idea. Ever since alpha I’ve been requesting this. I really appreciate all the work that went into the current cinematics (those animations are amazing, my god) but the weird concept art background was immersion breaking, I agree. That, along with the placement of the characters was a huge step down overall from GW1 in my opinion. I still remember some of those big scenes in GW1 even if they weren’t perfect. It was cool seeing that stuff happen in the environment.

The other thing I really hope to be implemented are the multiplayer cutscenes. One of my favorite, favorite things from the GW1 cutscenes had to be seeing my friends in the background along with me. Even in silence it was awesome just to see them be there.

Why warriors are amazing in FotM

Alexander.4827

after a certain level you prefer warriors to guardians.

I have never seen a group prefer a warrior to a guardian from 38+.
At 48 most groups are two or more guardians, a mesmer and then something or two for damage. It’s often warriors because they are so common but any class with damage is good. Warrior damage is only good if they can stand in one spot and spam 100 blades. If you want your FoTM to be under an hour at 48+ you need reflect and absorb.

Personally I’d prefer a thief since they can actually get their damage off and dodge enough to survive while bringing actual utility to the group from stealth.

Lacking Evade Frames On Other Weapons

in Warrior

Posted by: Alexander.4827

Alexander.4827

Dude relax.

Lol. Okay I’ll try my hardest. breaths

physical defense warrior is near the top of the list

It’s been proven time and time again that the best defense is mitigation. Not to mention that effective health is one thing but effective armor is another. A warrior with 2700 has just that. A ranger with 2200 armor plus 33% reduction with protection on dodge gets an effective armor of 3283. Warriors don’t get protection, true invulnerability and they are lacking on evades. This is another reason why greatsword is so over used. It’s evade attack makes it much more viable. Why not spread the love.

According to your signature you yourself even use a greatsword on your warrior.

I don’t know why these whirls have an evade but they do. Like I said before there a little evades here and there and we don’t know why.

Because mitigation is a key part of combat in GW2.

Leap combo finishers do not evade.

So whatever the rules are that apply to one leap must apply to all? What about whirls then? Not all whirls evade. I still don’t see that as a good reason. Even the dictionary definition of leap describes leaping over obstacles yet with how it is now if I tried to “leap” over a spike trap it would stop me because there are no evade frames.

Now evades on weapon set mostly go to thieves and rangers primarily due to the fact they lack our rather large defensively arsenal when it comes to shear mitigation.

Rangers get 1500 range, evades (on utility too), protection, regeneration, invulnerability and pets.
Thieves can evade even more than rangers can, teleport, block projectiles oh and stealth which can grant them regeneration.

Warriors are the worst class in sPvP. They may have the highest health and armor pools but that’s been proven to mean very little in GW2’s combat. Otherwise warriors would be the best class to bunker. Having an evade on one or two of the least used weapons on the warrior is hardly going unbalance us.

Lacking Evade Frames On Other Weapons

in Warrior

Posted by: Alexander.4827

Alexander.4827

the little evades that are around are so vast a weird that I think it pointless to say warrior needs more of them.

Where? I count 1. You are talking about warriors, right?

Updraft is a decent example of an evade that is just there for some reason.

That for one has nothing to do with warriors. It seems incredibly obvious to me why it has evade frames: it moves you evasively. Just as savage leap hurls you over the battlefield and whirlwind spins you across.

It is too slippery a slope imho.

I don’t know what that means. Are you worried they will put evade frames on attacks that you don’t think need evade frames? It seems really obvious which attacks would and would not get them.

On top of that most any teleport can be used an an evade.

That’s. What? We don’t get a teleport. I’m honestly confused you made me recheck to make sure I posted this in the right forum.

Lacking Evade Frames On Other Weapons

I had a thought today that I’m sure some one will be eager to give me insight on.
Is there any particular reason that greatsword get’s 3/4s evade frame on whirlwind but other weapons don’t get any evade frames? Such as hammer’s earthshaker or axe’s eviscerate. Even if the argument is that those weapons aren’t focused on mobility what about one hand sword?

One hand sword’s purpose is to be quick and mobile, right? Why is there not an evade frame on savage leap?

Just curious if there is a particular reason. It seems like an easy way to give the warrior a small way to mitigate damage and would help diversify builds which is greatly needed.

Agreed. The necromancer has a lot of abilities that need to be looked at and enhanced particularly when it comes to minions not being able to mitigate damage through dodging which is essential for high level play. I love my necromancer buddies and wish them all the best.

However, this is the warrior forum. Just as your elite shouldn’t justify some of your class skills being lackluster none of the warrior or guardian skills should justify a lackluster elite. That’s what we’re here to discuss.

Lich form:
While in Lich Form, the caster will be granted stability for the duration. (30 seconds)
While in Lich Form, the necromancer’s base power is tripled, and base precision and vitality doubled.

Rampage:

While in rampage gain stability. (20 seconds)
Rampage sends the user into a fist-fighting frenzy, doubling your base power statistic.

Tome of Courage:

No stability (20 seconds)
Grants protection, doubles your toughness and vitality.

So lich form lasts 10 seconds longer, gives more power than the warrior’s form along with stability, gives vitality like the guardian form and can strip boons with the same cool down.
Oh and it gets double precision too. Because why not.

I think they got the necro form right. They need to bring the warrior and guardian form in line with it. There is a reason lich form is used while rampage isn’t.

Except that’s not how it works in reality.

And new entrants to the market may fall in line with any prices I set, but there will be some who will decide to discount by a large margin to “guarantee a quick sale”.

I agree with you.

That’s what I was addressing. Yes, the price will fall but it would take a very large influx for them to return to the original price and even then they rarely settle back completely.

The reason prices stabilize is that they have a continual supply.

It may also be in the best interest of the person attempting to control to market to let the price stay low and keep buying them up until the speed at which people place new ones up for sale slows down enough. I guess we’ll see.

Well a couple very rich people apparently saw this thread and capitalized on it. In the last 48 hours every Lost Shores weapon skin has been bought out.

These are now the rarest skin in the game, there are less of them on the TP then legendaries and there is no possible way to get more since Lost Shores was a 1 time in history event.

I’d laugh if there were a large number of these stashed away on people’s accounts that suddenly flooded into the market.

And that’s the risk with trying to speculate on items like this, you don’t know how many other people are holding onto them waiting for the price to rise…

The difference is once it’s removed from the market players can set their own price and even if more show up they’ll fall in line with the new prices. It can take a very long time to adjust back and it normally never settles back the same.

I expect the same thing to happen with the Halloween shoulder skins.

The safety net for this incident broke, and it will be fixed this next patch. If a boss can’t attack you back due to terrain issues, he/she/it will go invulnerable and reset like before.

I understand why this happens but not the method. Was this determined to be the best solution? When enemies go invulnerable and then regen in seconds not only does it break any possible immersion it opens up possibilities for frustrating bugs. Why not give enemies a unique pull skill then they can’t path to players? In this case it’s a spider so why not an unblockable web that shoots out and pulls you to her.

I feel like players should be rewarded for trying to use the terrain to their advantage without fear of instant resets.

Same with mystic forge nodes. They are one of the key components for conduits. Currently the other rare components are 20g+ yet nodes are 1g. Someone could easily cut off the supply to one of the parts you need to make nodes and then buy up all the nodes and relist them at ten times the price or more and make a ridiculous amount of gold.

However since no one has done this I’m assuming there is some key obvious thing I’m missing.

Precursors vs. Discontinued & Holiday Skins

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Alexander.4827

Alexander.4827

For the most part the guild wars trading post follows very predictable patterns that closely resemble real life models. As someone who enjoys the market game it’s been interesting watching trends and big players make their chess moves.

I met and encountered a couple of players early on with 750-2000 gold. They controlled the precursor market with a few others. This makes sense. It’s a highly valued item that is required to make the most prestigious weapons. I can only imagine how powerful they are today now that they have legendaries to play with.

What I don’t get are the other items on the market that are prestigious, rare, and discontinued or exclusive to a holiday that is over. Discontinued items like the mystic forge conduit or holiday skins like the greatsaw. The only source of these items comes directly from players who have stock piled these items and as they are used they become more and more rare. While their prices slowly and steadily increase in value (take a look at the shoulder skins from Halloween which are all approaching over a gold) they don’t seem to gain the same attention as precursors and other exotics.

What is stopping the top market players from taking advantage of these items that can’t be replenished? Are the drop rates on precursors really so low that there is no risk of undercutting? Do people largely have no interest in these items?

Ascalon’s Requiem [End] is a strongly-forged guild of dedicated members. Our guild dates back several years and is solely focused on Guild Wars 2. We are a mature and diverse group of semi-hardcore gamers with very active members that enjoy the game in a variety of ways.

Our strong PvE activities provide us with the influence to maintain constant PvE and WvW bonuses. We currently stand at 80 members with nearly half of our members logging in each day, and continue to grow at a slow but steady pace.

Philosophy:

End’s goal is to create a highly effective and welcoming guild by maintaining a strong sense of community. New members are hand-picked to ensure we only add quality recruits that fit well with the personality of the guild community. We believe in finding good members regardless of experience level, and strongly focus on mentoring and training quality people to bring them up-to-speed with the rest of the guild.

If you value quality and having fun in a mature (but still sometime silly) way, we are the right guild for you.

While we’re always looking for more members that enjoy running dungeons, leveling in fractals, and completing world events, we’re ramping up our focus on WvW and sPvP, and are especially interested in new members that are interested in contributing to Blackgate’s WvW efforts in an organized way through positive collaboration and coordination with the rest of the BG WvW community.

We’re also expanding our creative section of the guild and are looking for people interested in participating or creating out of game creative content such as videos, screenshots and more.

If you are interested feel free to send me a message here telling me a bit about yourself and what you are looking for. We don’t guarantee admission to our guild.

Vitality Tree needs some work.

in Warrior

Posted by: Alexander.4827

Alexander.4827

You can’t seriously be suggesting this class needs a buff.
Not like they’re already several fold more powerful than other professions. Oh wait….

Sorry to sound so cynical, but it’s silly I can take out entire groups of vets with my level 80 exoed out warrior and yet other professions cannot.

Your post comes off very biased. Warriors are definitely very powerful in the regular open world PvE environment and I don’t think anyone is arguing that. The guardian too can easily solo almost all open world champions and groups of vets. This is what happens to characters with high armor and regen. Regular mobs have a hard time getting through that.

You need to compare these things to higher level play in dungeons, fractals, WvW, and sPvP where the difference between a fully tank focused warrior and a glass cannon warrior becomes being able to take two or three hits and survive compared to being one or two shot. This is where utility becomes much more valuable compared to raw strength. A single wall of reflection, a well placed portal, packets of healing on the ground, a pet to cause a distraction.

Lupi doesn’t care that you can heal 6000 of your 20,000 health when he nearly one shots you. No one cares about 100 blades when you can simply dodge out of it. Sure you can choose a team of warriors but one guardian could of reflected back that assault of projectiles that just wiped you.

And that’s how it should be. Warriors get the best armor type with the highest health pool and high melee damage in exchange for a lack of utility, control, boons, and condition removal. What we get is raw power. That’s our trick.

Two seconds of regen afting dodging won’t stop a warrior from soloing a group of veterans but it will help a warrior stay alive for a couple more seconds when he is the first one to charge in and that’s all we have. Raw power.

The strengths of the different classes can give people more advantages in different areas (and in regard to the warrior’s PvE strength I believe that was by design since they said the warrior would be an easier class for those who are newer at the game) so please consider that before directly comparing the classes.

“Yes warriors have armor, but anyone with toughness can get 3000+ armor, warriors however don’t have the CC or Bleeding/Poison”

It is not easy for other classes to get 3000 armor like it is for the warrior. We have lot’s of crowd control through weapons. Sword, mace and hammer are all focused on this. We also get physical utility skills for extra crowd control. We get lots of bleeding through the sword, some of the highest stacks in the game from one source and we also get burning.

-

The guardian relies on boons to be effective it’s even in their class philosophy:
“The Guardian is a heavy armor class who relies on boons to make up for their low levels of innate health.”

The warrior is not meant to rely on nor have access to the same amount of boons in exchange we get both the highest health and highest armor with high damage:
“We want the Warrior to be capable of good melee damage in a sturdy body. "

It is good to look across classes when figuring out balance to see what is realistic in scope to receive however you have to keep in mind that just because one class gets one thing doesn’t mean the rest should. They are balanced in different ways.

However, it doesn’t matter what either of us decide is balanced or unbalanced what is important is that we agree that the current roster of minor traits for the tactics line is severely lacking and we want to call attention to the relevant parties who have influence over this.

Vitality Tree needs some work.

I do believe there are those out there who enjoy traits that are team focused and let them feel like they bring something uniquely beneficial to the group.

The tactics line has many group supporting traits and it only makes sense for the minor traits to reflect that in some way. The defense line is much better suited to traits that make only the warrior alone tougher.

that trait 25 is amazing!

Was wondering why, now I know. Thanks!!!

This is a suggestion thread warriors don’t have any of this..

We currently have:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_warrior_traits#Tactics

5: Determined Revival: Gain Protection for 2 seconds after a dodge roll ends or reviving an ally.

Protection on a dodge roll in one way makes a lot of sense. Warriors are supposed to be mobile piles of armor. However with the way armor gives diminishing returns 33% damage reduction for a character who starts with 3500 armor is a phenomenally larger bonus than to someone who starts off which much lower like the ranger.

Plus, this the the vitality tree so I don’t think it makes a lot of sense to give an armor boon on top of the fact that armor isn’t a problem for warriors. We have armor. We need healing. What was so nice behind the idea of gaining regen on dodge is it helped out warriors in an area that they were weakest in.

15: Fast Healer: All Regenerating healing effects are increased by 33%.

My instinct is that this is just too powerful for a minor trait. I think something like this would make more sense:
“You have a 20% chance to gain regeneration whenever a foe attacks you in melee”

Because of the train line boon duration increase the regen we’d get would already last longer.

25: Vanguard: Increases revive speed and damage reduction for every boon on you. (6% Revive Speed, 3% damage reduction per boon on the warrior.) [for example, if I had three boons on my warrior, I would have 18% revive speed, 9% damage reduction.]

Why would the warrior get something that’s so focused on boons? This seems much more like a guardian grandmaster major trait. Remember 9% damage reduction on a 3500 armored person is very, very powerful.

Why not take this opportunity to tie it to adreneline?
Vanguard
“Increases revive speed based on adrenaline.”

or

“Revive speed increases as your health decreases.”

This way we either get something tied to our core mechanic or an actual reason to keep reviving people even while under fire instead of stopping to try and scrape together some boons.

Daecollo, you are completely right.
The tactics minor traits are pathetic and I like the idea behind your suggestion.

For my nitpick on your first minor trait: I think we should compare it to other “on dodge” abilities. The ranger and thief can get boons when they dodge that I think give us a good idea on how much regeneration ours should give.

Companion’s Defense:
“You and your pet gain 2 seconds of protection when you dodge roll.”

Expeditious Dodger
“Gain 2 seconds of swiftness on evade.”

So for it to be balanced I believe we also would only get 2 seconds of regeneration.

Vanguard
“Gain 2 seconds of regeneration when you dodge roll.”

As for your next two I don’t think your suggestions make as much sense. The tactics tree is about boons and the warrior’s various support abilities (bannerse, shouts and the warhorn). In this case the minor traits should follow this theme in some way and turn the tactics traited warrior into a leader on the battlefield which is why I think your vanguard minor trait is such a good idea. It allows the warrior to be the first into the battle and helps them survive that initial burst from enemies similar to thick skin.

Our QA group was able to do this, but I have received many reports about her healing while stealthed being way too high. I’ll ask our QA to give it another pass with different characters/builds to see how they fare.

Hello, Rob

Could you tell us which builds and/or classes we are required to switch to in order to complete this?

In our group we had our support and heftier people leave the dungeon, respec to full damage trees, and then come back and it wasn’t enough to make progress on her health. We’re not a DPS oriented group with only two of our people focused in that aspect. Are we required to re-gear to do this?

As for running the sparks even going full damage trees my warrior gets too much aggro to share the sparks aggro with people period. If I am anywhere near them at all they will switch to me.

This is an interesting boss concept but it was unfortunately a source of great frustration and despair for our group being the single only content that we’ve ever surrendered on because of fatigue and work/school the next day. Thank you for being active in this thread and taking time to read our feedback.

GW2 holiday endings are abit lackluster

I believe I understand what you mean however I disagree a bit. It’s not the endings themselves that are lackluster compared to the first game. They’ve done way more impressive things already. It’s the lack of a big social interactive conclusion event which is what happened with Gaile the first time around. I don’t think it was their intention to have Gaile become such a focus for events like these but what it did is it brought an absurd amount of people together. Basically it was an AMA before reddit even existed. These events felt so epic because of exclusive info, masses of people and strong tradition.

I do think it would be refreshing to have a couple community representatives on 2-3 overflows (or however they could think to do it) play key holiday event characters (Mad King, Tixx, etc.), backed up by some knowledgable devs in the room, to answer questions and interact with the community.

Even when the questions couldn’t be answered it just gave us excitement for the future of the game. Either way I have been really impressed with the work they’ve put in so far!

Agreed, Bru.
For such a high level trait I was surprised it didn’t do that. I don’t think it stops conditions from hurting you either.

Jeff,

Is there any chance of getting a dynamic respawn rate based on players in the area? If there is only one player the respawn rate doesn’t need to be that fast at all it could be minutes rather than seconds until a new player approaches the area.

Surprised we don’t have “Charge”…. Good sir have you ever used a war horn?

Embarrassingly I have a warhorn as an offhand for dungeons and WvW. I guess I just figured it would be more powerful considering how it functioned in GW1. Also if it was a shout it would benefit from trait bonuses.
