Rank the new Elites in WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Balgus.3468

Balgus.3468

I only really solo and duo roam in WVW so for me, I rank the elites as:

T1 – Dragon Hunter, Scrapper, Herald, Chronomancer
T2 – Berserker, Daredevil
T3 – Tempest, Druid

I put Scrapper in T1 because of how many stuns it has. Then Chronomancer because its Chronomancer, and Chronomancer is OP. Herald because Celestial set gives it a lot of survival power. Then Dragon Hunter because once again, lots of CC to help you dictate the flow of a battle when roaming.

For the other classes, I put Berserker at T2 because even though condi’s hurt a lot, I feel that once you’ve exhausted your combo rotation, you’re left very vulnerable. Usually I can drop lower armored classes in just 1 combo, but if I miss even one part of the combo, then i become a sitting duck. Daredevil I put T2 as well because I feel like Thieves roam better currently without the use of the Daredevil trait line as it is.

As for T3, I don’t think Druid needs much of an explanation since I’m coming from a Roaming standpoint. Druid is more or less just for stalling time for someone else to come kill them. I can kind of see how decent it can be when paired with Staff/Greatsword because it allows you to reset fights very easily with such low cooldown, but the damage is just too low. Tempest, I just don’t see the point in. Personally when I play ele in wvw roaming, I go with d/d celestial, so I’m always dodge rolling everywhere. Having to channel the overload skills just leaves me vulnerable to stun.

Empty Maps and Frustration

I feel you OP. I was really hoping to see Hearts again, and the occasional story driven dynamic event. From what I’ve played so far, all the maps besides Auric Basin just feel like Silverwastes 2.0, or Drytop 3.0. Just constant dynamic events on a time table. I don’t mind the grind for masteries, that’s how you master something after all; you grind away at it til you see progress, but just running dynamic events over and over and over is just so exhausting.

At the rate HoT is going, it’ll return to a “Rush the story, leave the game alone for awhile, wait for next living story.” The same spot vanilla was in before, that made their player base drop so much.

Precursor Crafting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Balgus.3468

Balgus.3468

I feel you OP. I wanted story quests. Like why is it a legendary weapon? what makes it so legendary? I would’ve loved it if we had like time traveling quests into the past to learn the history behind the weapon, and then if we managed to complete certain requirements within the dungeon/quest/instance, then a piece of the precursor would unlock. Like your character’s current weapon would be the very reason why it became known as a legendary weapon through the feats you accomplished. Now that would’ve been cool.

What the legendary crafting mastery is at the moment is just a shopping list of things you need to go buy, and that’s no different than what we were already doing to get Precursors.

I think the whole hero point thing could have been avoided if we unlocked our elites through story quests as opposed to hero points. We wouldn’t have many complaints about how long it takes because you can have a party help you power through the story of becoming your Elite spec designed to take down the Dragons. I also think it just makes the Elite Spec seem more appealing through story telling because your elite spec is elite for a reason. We just don’t seem to know why it’s an elite spec though.

As it is now, in WVW anyway, not many of the Elite specs are even worth running with because it sacrifices a whole trait line, and many times it doesn’t even have good synergy with the rest of the class (I’m looking at you Tempest). So giving a story incentive to the class would make it seem cool to have because then it builds your character’s story.

Elite Specs is pretty much the very much hated NPE all over again. Unlock traits by doing events. Eventually, map will die, and no one will do the events, and then you’ll be SOL, except this time, there’s no grinding for money and then buying the traits from a vendor, you’ll have to go to EOTM or something like that to get your Hero Points. I though the BWE would have been a good indicator of what we were getting, but I have sever buyers remorse.

Just play the way you want to play. I get that message a lot from other players hoping to fail an event, and I just keep going. If I succeed, they just gotta wait til the next time the event pops up again. What’s the point of playing a game if you don’t get to experience everything the game has to offer? If victory of an event is what you want to feel, then you shouldn’t be obligated to anyone to fail on purpose. If they wanna fail, that’s their prerogative, and they can wait for the failure when you’re not in the area because you don’t know them and you don’t owe them anything.

Signet of Courage Thoughts

I think the signet is lame/weak. Maybe if they allowed you to move while casting, then yeah I’d probably use it, but being stuck in one position with no stability really screws you over in both PVE and WvW. I can maybe see it being okay in SpVp when you’re defending a spot, but otherwise, weak.

I like Water, Arcane, and Earth. Diamond skin still OP as ever. Celestial armor, hoelbrak runes, D/D, doom sigil and Energy sigil, and Cleric Trinkets. This means condi’s can’t get me, Soothing Mist Heals for a butt ton, and I still deal moderate damage in a 1v1 situation in wvw. I don’t drop people nearly as fast as previously, but I’ve noticed the tankiness that’s lost is well made up with the crazy heals.

Thanks for buffing Shield...

in Guardian

Posted by: Balgus.3468

Balgus.3468

Personally, I’d like to see Shield 4 be a Knockback, but keep the protection and regen, and decrease cooldown, maybe even make it do farther knockback depending on distance/range.

And then have Shield 5 be a blast finisher, and do Fear or also Knockback, while Providing a block like shelter. While giving you like 5 stacks of stability and 5 stacks of resistance.

Also, everyone keeps asking for a more mobile skill on 5, but I dont think that’s what a shield on Guardian should represent. It should be highly defensive, so making it mobile would make it play like Warrior’s shield, and I don’t think that would be fun. Something like Rooting you down and providing immense CC or Defensive capabilities would make it better because then Guardians would have to be more mindful of their surroundings when using it, rather than just using it during a panic or something similar like the Warrior’s shield 5 skill.

Ascended Gear now 10% Stronger than Exotics

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Balgus.3468

What they should’ve did with Ascended armor and weapons was make them have unlimited wardrobe changes rather than higher stats. That would definitely motivate players to actually aim for ascendeds. 10% increase in stats is so miniscule in WVW that it’ doesn’t even matter. Only in PVE does that like 1386 dmg over 1312 dmg even matter.

Like my warrior has full ascended serk armor with runes of strength in them, and I don’t even notice the difference from my exotic serk set with runes of strength. Only when I dont use ascended trinkets do I see a difference

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Balgus.3468

Probably requires too much effort, since they’d have to make all brand new resources and stuff. With HoT being worked on, I doubt we’d get anything like that because they’re probably hoping for HoT to fix peoples’ need for new content. We’ll likely never get anything for it. Heck, I bet we only got a Chinese New Year event because they recently launched in China. If not for that, we’d never have gotten a Chinese New Year event because c’mon how many people in NA and EU actually celebrate that, and aren’t Asian? Fairly minimal I bet. I honestly doubt we’ll ever get any new holiday events, and if we do they’ll just be Buffs like 100% increase in exp or something similar.

A fourth stat on gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Balgus.3468

Balgus.3468

I think what would be cool is a 4th stat based on how much of your set consists of that archetype. Similar to runes.

All 6 Berserker equipment? Add 1 stack of Vulnerability (3s) every 3rd hit, but conditions have increased duration. All 6 Soldier’s equipment? Gain Protection(1s) every 15s, but decrease crit damage by 5%. All 6 Valkyrie equipment? Increase crit damage by 20%, but decrease crit rate by 5%. All 6 Dire equipment? Increase Condition damage by 5% of toughness, but decrease condition duration by 5%

Those examples are more like a bonus for having a set, but I think it’d add a whole new dynamic to the way people play. Like at that point, is it worth running full sets of something, or is it better to mix and match to experiment?

Like i think of it in WVW, and it would really make Hammer warriors think about whether or not they wanna run full Berserk armor, and rely heavy on self healing, because now they take a lot more damage. Or Full Dire Condi Thieves who have great escaping abilities, but is it worth hiding all the time if your bleed which usually lasts 5s, now only lasts 2s per stack?

I think this would be fun because then it’d add a new level of challenge in the way players play.

Idk I’ve tried multiple setups with the goal of having my power and condi near or around the same amount so as to keep a good balance between power burst and condi burst. I’ve found this one my favorite, but I mean I totally want to see people’s views on it, and variations of it!

My intention of searching out 1v1’s in this video was just to showcase to people how strong it is 1v1, but I mean I’ve had fights where I do very well with zergs and group roaming. My role is like that of the ganker, where I throw down harassment with condi’s, while primarily picking off the squishies in a group. I will try to find some time to record some group roaming and zerg battles as well to help show more weaknesses and strengths of it.

If there’s a way to pump up my power above 1400, while still maintaining Condi dmg at at least 1300 then I’m all ears!

I don’t have any sinister equipment yet because I really only do WVW, but I imagine having Sinister’s would benefit it as well if anyone wants to test that out and put a video for us. I just want to see more than your average Power LB ranger running around is all.

I also ran this the other day with a Brown Bear to have extra cleanse it that was also pretty fun. Seeing as how Pet AI is pretty weak, I like having them as a 4th Utility skill more than anything. I’m thinking of testing out different pet setups like
1. Reef Drake for Confusion
2. Blue Moa for Protection
3. Jungle Stalker for Might

I haven’t had the chance to try it with Axe yet, but I don’t think I will simply because the 15s of Vulnerable from LB is just so nice to have.

here’s just a general idea of what I used to run just to do World Boss fights. This should be a decent enough general template. Unless you feel like trying your hand on someone like Tequatl or Great Jungle Wurm, then you’ll wanna swap out all those berserker gear for like Soldier’s.

I left 2nd weapon, and 2nd pet blank. Up to your preference. I like Bear just so I can be lazy and have him tank. 2nd weapon I like Sword and Warhorn for the blast finisher and whatnot.

I also left the last utility slot open for your preference. You can probably also swap out Sun spirit, for Earth spirit if you’re feeling too squishy. Or you can even swap it out for Signet of the Hunt to allow for travelling across the world faster. Again, totally up to you. Frost spirit is a must have because of its ability to increase your damage by 10%.

almost forgot, you can also always swap out Read the Wind for Spotter. Depends on you. I personally like seeing the Pew Pew Pew really fast from auto attack, so I don’t mind the 12% less crit rate.

I just recorded some footage. Gonna cut out all the boring tidbits of me running around avoiding zergs. In it will be a few skirmishes of me joining a group fight. I also have footage of like 4 duels with a Thief, Ranger, Ele, and Mesmer. Will edit this post when it’s completed. It’s gonna take a long time though since it’s 1 hour of footage to cut down lol
When you watch, you’ll notice that I manage to barely escape all because of Protection upkeep lol.

I hope to see more people running unorthodox builds. This build also surprisingly does decently in a Zerg setting as well with the AOE burn, poison, bleed, and immobile. I don’t have the celestial trinkets yet since I don’t yet have enough laurels, but I’ll slowly work my way there to test it out again, but so far I’ve quite enjoyed playing this Double Bow Trap ranger build.

@jim Hunter, I like the range on LB better than having a S/WH. I do see the benefit from the WH because of WH 5, but I think for my play style, it fits better with a LB because of stealth. I can stealth away like a thief to gather some distance, and attack said distance, as opposed to infighting with a sword. I think it primarily comes down to my playstyle. I’m more of an outfighter with my Ranger, so I like having the range advantage.

The Double Bow Ranger!!!!!!

in Ranger

Balgus.3468

Idk, even with 1200 power. My crit on LB 2 hits usually around 6-9k (6 usually if at least 5 of them land), and then coupled with the conditions and Poison, it packs quite the punch! People with higher toughness, will usually take me a few extra rotations, but generally, in 1v1 situations, unless there’s a ton of CC, I come out alive lol.

I used to run it with Keen Edge, but found that the extra 5 stacks of bleeds and 5 stack of Vuln weren’t as beneficial as some more survivability. I did try the build with Ramapager gear once, but again it left me super squishy and with no survival skills to help me in case I screwed myself, and I rely very heavily upon the Condition as opposed to the power damage.

As for the Shared Anguish and Vigorous Renewal, I might run Vigorous Renewal, and get rid of Expertise Training simply because only my spider benefits from it, but I like having the Stealth from Hide in Plain Sight to help me keep my opponent guessing. It helps me get some distance.

My main approach to roaming fights begins with dropping Flame Trap-Stealth-Entangle-Rapid Fire-Hunter’s Shot-Stealth-Spike Trap-Stealth-Point Blank Shot-Viper’s Nest-Rapid Fire. This rotation if done without a hitch usually downs anyone with less than 16k HP. And if anyone manages to get close to me I swap to SB that will chill and inflict bleed, Quick Shot to get some distance, Crippling Shot for another bleed, and then Poison Volley. Then I kite til LB is off CD, and swap back and repeat!

My biggest problem with running what you suggested is that I’m just not good enough at roaming to warrant not having the extra survival lol.

And I really don’t like Vigor. Even though it raises the Endurance Regen by 100%, I like being able to just get Protection with my decent toughness to tank it out. And seeing as how max endurance rate regen is 10%, which would take 5s to have another dodge, and by then Vigor is already gone, so I get 3 dodges, but I don’t see it as beneficial as protection which reduces damage by 33% for 5s. Not to mention, I’m horrible at timing dodges anyway lol

As sigils go. I really don’t like Sigil of Doom on here simply because with SB’s Poison Volley, and Viper’s Nest, I think it would be overkill as opposed to adding more bleed Stacks since that has more damage. I also don’t use the torment sigil simply because of the way I play this build. I really only use the SB in emergencies, which is to escape and create distance, so 5 stacks of torment might be super nice, but i don’t like that it’s damage is so unstable as opposed to getting off multiple stacks of bleed for more reliable damage.

I will probably try out the Celestial Trinkets though. But more than likely only put 2 Celestial Rings and the Celestial Back to get at least 150 to all stats, and then run the rest as Dire+Rabid to keep my condi damage above 1200.

Thanks for the input though! I hope you try out what I already have though, it’s a lot of fun lol

The Double Bow Ranger!!!!!!

in Ranger

Balgus.3468

No for reals, I use two bows on my ranger haha. My thinking for when I was making random build was because I had to rush to a fight with my guildies and I only had a LB and SB in my inventory, so I ran with it, and voila! It was a magical time! BTw this is WVW.

This build is essentially a Hybrid Condition/Power build. In its purest essence, it’s just a trap ranger, which I’m sure many can come up with more, but I wanted to share my version.

Now why is Longbow great for this you say? Well because of Sharpened Edges of course! With a 66% to put 1 stack of bleed on an opponent, I definitely wanted to hit my opponent with crits as often as possible. And we all know LB 2 does 10 hits, that’s 10 chances of putting on a stack of bleed!

Now why do I have a shortbow too? Well that’s because of the bleed from Auto attacks! Not to mention the rest of its skills are just too good to pass up on a Condi build!

Anyway, I really don’t have a theory or anything behind this thing. It was just a wonderful accident. Have a gander at the link to see if you like it or not, test it out, and let me know what you think!

I have a ton of fun with this build because of the decent burst from Longbow, and the decent amount of condi stacks with SB and traps. Feel free to criticize, ridicule, and observe!

I will say though, that with this build I do often have trouble battling it out with things like Condi Thieves (it becomes a battle of stealth haha). And this build is pretty awful at escaping (I mean c’mon Anet? You give us runes that let us stealth, but my pet isn’t stealthed? Any smart person would just aoe where my pet is lol).

Anyways, without further ado, here it is!

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQJATVjUq0ua3KmrQ1aADhqdHkBlA7AICmAXxbBrSA-T1SEABPcIA2e/hU0EAwDAMBtkygCuAANcEAOQJIOq/whOgpU6BA-w

Let me know what you think! I often swap my Raven for Polar Bear because I like having Chill, or Spiders for more poison and immobile.

This build makes me feel like a ninja with my ninja dog and what not.

The Shatterer.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Balgus.3468

Balgus.3468

Doesn’t need an increase in difficulty. Needs an increase in mechanics. Encourage players to do different things to defeat him.

Do something with the siege equipment we got sitting in the back.

Maybe there’s a certain period of time where Shatterer takes like 50% less damage, and we have to rely on the siege equipment to cut off its wings to make up in the loss of dps.

Maybe have a moment where you have to attack him at certain spots on the ground because the rest is covered in crystal spikes that does DOT on characters, so the blob has to migrate around to certain spots to deal damage.

Maybe make certain body parts take more damage from Melee, and certain spots take more damage from Range, so the blob has to split into melee groups and ranged groups to efficiently kill him fast.

And then lastly maybe throw in something to do with the NPCs. Make them not useless, have them engage in the fight. Have small events where the npcs have to drop some sort of anti-crystal agent on the dragon to make him extra vulnerable.

It’ll encourage players to not just zerg, and approach different methods of killing him.

And also please buff rewards. I honestly don’t even do world bosses anymore because it’s just not worth the effort. I’d rather run around in WVW with a zerg to get my Dragonite ores.

Give us an incentive to do world bosses. Make them truly massive and with rewards that truly make them worth killing. They don’t even have to be exotics/ascendeds. They could be asthetics! Allow us to craft asthetics that require certain mats from a specific world boss. Multi colored crystal wings from shatterer. jormag specific skins, and teq specific wings/backs.

As it is right now, Dragon boss fights are not dynamic. We’re no longer enamored by the fact it’s a Giant fraking monster, we need more. There’s no meat to each fight. WOW has continually succeeded with it’s outdated quest system because their fights are dynamic. I mean, how cool would it be to see a large organized zerg with 15 on Catapults, 10 on Arrow Carts, 10 on Trebs and 10 on Balistas, while the rest are defending those users from hordes of monsters. Even an unorganized pug group in WVW knows that they gotta build siege or they’ll lose a keep. PUG groups in PVE don’t think that because they’re more concerned with min/maxing the boss.

If you think PVP/WVW ele is weak, then you have another thing coming. I’ve been facerolled before by an ele. The thing is, you just gotta learn the correct skill rotations. Once you’ve learned that, ele becomes easy pickings, and vice-versa. When you know the proper skill rotation, your ele will easily drop even warriors and guardians.

You literally gotta wait through a 2 minute cutscene, to spike her before her shield comes up, which is usually about 30 seconds before it comes up lol not to mention the loading screen and the waiting for the NPCs to walk up to her so you can initiate the cutscene lol

Burn Guardian for WvW

So I was playing around in WVW on my guardian, and decided I wanted to play a condition build for the “lolz”.

My initial thought is to stick with Scepter and Torch, and spamming the 4 skill as much as possible for the 20k burn, and swapping to Mace+Focuse as often as possible to inflict constant burn with the blocks while kiting near symbols.

I was also thinking of interchanging Purging Flames with Aegis depending on the situations for that extra Aegis to inflict burning.

Now I haven’t exactly tried it out yet, but this was the direction I wanted to go, but I wanted as much burn damage as possible. So I’m curious as to what people think. Viable, almost, or no?

Also a quick question, is it better that conditions last shorter, and do more damage, or if they last longer? I would think that maybe that 20k burn would be more useful if it all happened within 3 seconds as opposed to 6 seconds, but that’s what I don’t understand.

Anyways, go ahead and poke fun if ya want.

I’ve got the solution my friends. It’s simple, we kill the Batman.
