The lack of ascended armor/weapon drops are ridiculous if you’re working on the collection for the legendary (fractal) back piece. Unless you hoarded ascended gear pre-HoT, you’re going to be crafting gear to throw away.

gj anet, punishing new players – or really anyone who has never played/hoarded hardcore in the past – is the highway to player retention.

Played A LOT over like two weeks some time ago, during which I switched from bag-clicking to AHK because my wrist started to hurt (what the kitten, is this an MMO?), and ultimately got bored of spending more time on inventory management than actual activities. I’ve never experienced wrist pain before in my life, not from pc work, not from gaming, not from sports. The amount of clicking is that absurd.

It’s the one major downfall that GW2 has, bagception is beyond kittened. And for no good reason really, so unnecessary. It’s the main reason I’m on an extended break with no end in sight.

And for the raids, i’ve seen the first one in the beta , of course the boss had a huge pool of HP , but still the enrage timer wasnt the main problem since everyone seems to die long before it , that’s why I was wondering about getting more “multitask” and get more survivability . *Also the raid strat forced people to be in constant movement ( often far from the boss himself ) that’s why I thought gettting a bit of condi damages could be usefull . *
As for fractals, i’m not pro at all in it , to be honnest I’ve done very few fractals , and was wondering , why do you say we need full zerk ? It appears to me that if the fractals are difficult , a little bit of survivability and support through better healing would help ? am I wrong ?

Condi damage doesn’t have any inherent advantages over direct damage when it comes to being “away from the boss”.
In most games there IS a benefit in DoT mechanics, but that’s because the DoTs there have above average DPET (damage per execution time). Those DoT classes have a few skills that do lots of damage, and then the rest is filler spells. If you can connect your high-value skills every once in a while, and only lose out on some fillers you are not losing out on as much damage as direct damage classes that have a more balance damage-spread.
All of that doesn’t really apply in GW2 – at least last I played. So keep that in mind.

This. Ele survivalbility never came from the base stats anyways, it’s because of the synergies in your build, so if you play it properly, you should be fine.

There might be reasons why we would want ele hp to be buffed…your complaint is not one of them.

What arguments? Everything I’ve said is a fact. This is about how we are enjoying the Precursor crafting. Incinerator will be my 12th Legendary. Starting from scratch, you can craft spark theprecursor in 20 days. I don’t understand how farming something and earning it costs you gold? If you mean" I’m losing gold by not selling the mats" then that’s your choice. You have zero argument and that is your own fault.

If I’m doing the go-to farm for say 15g/h and you are mining for say the equivalent of 5g/h then you are losing out on 10g/h of profit that you could’ve made per hour. You do that either because you don’t know/understand this concept or because mining is >10g/h worth of more fun to you than doing said grind.
And we both lose out on however many hours of real life work we could have been doing instead, which even at minimum wage were ridiculous sums over the process of crafting a legendary. Or whichever unit you want to convert your time into that’s most valuable to you.

Full cele is too little offense (no actual PRESSURE!), and too much defense/healing. Plus the stats are too spread out to make use of the chance you got in wvw to buff damage into ridiculousness.
That was my experience. Take it with a grain of salt, i haven’t tried full cele post-patch. The burning changes might have bumped up the offense considerably.

Alright, I’ll play. Maybe you’re onto something. For now I’ll ignore the second sentence which regards water as a revolution to the pvp meta and zealots as a good fit for a 11k HP class.
Let’s remove healing on Signet of Restoration:
SoR now has no passive anymore, and when you activate it this bonus is lost until it comes off CD. The active is nothing on a 25 second CD.
That does in fact sound like a pretty horrible idea.

To be fair, I disregarded the trait Written in Stone. You can trait the cooldown down to 20 seconds, plus the passive effect will never be suppressed. So you can enjoy nothing at all times, even while you spam nothing on a 20 second CD.

I remember DEKeyz suggesting something like full zerker and then shifting ~70 or so power to precision. IIRC 2 assassin earrings, or full precision infusions does the trick. That’s with their very optimistic assumption that everything is covered and capped at all times.

Seems to be popular at the moment to post random idiotic theories about why ele is strong right now, and why it’s so delicate to balance. Here’s my take on it, happy cringeing!

Before we start:
Elementalist has the lowest amount of base defense granted by the game (no extra HP, no extra toughness). As such it has to make up for that via gear & traits & skills and effects & scaling factors. Read: it has to be above-average in 1+ of those to be able to get the same end results as other classes.

Celestial gear:
Celestial gear has a higher item budget than all other gear. For almost all builds some of that item budget is either wasted on stats that have poor scaling (say condi on ele staff, healing power for many classes) or go beyond your target stats (toughness or vitality on bulky classes) or don’t offer enough offense (cele damage without might stacks).
D/D uses all the stats with appropriate (or are they?) scaling factors. Ele can cover the low base offense provided by cele with its might stacking capabilities.

The way D/D works:
D/D builds might stacks to up its power/condidamage. Combined with good access to burning and good power scaling this leads to very good damage (e.g. Fire/Water/Arcana CEle).
D/D uses its good access to fury to cover for its low base crit.
D/D uses protection/vigor and a good evasion frame % to lower damage intake, and uses strong healing to heal back up. While an ele can be bursted down easily if they are not reacting (low base survivability) – the low damage intake of an active CEle plus its good healing per second leads to a very sturdy class. Assuming enough burst-survivability, the longer the fight goes the more relevant the longterm HP-lost to HP-healed ratio becomes.
D/D rotates through the elements quickly in an effort to spam boons – each of them covering different aspects (burst survivability, healing, offense) – and gain access to its skills.
There is hardly any counterplay to boonspam, and the class whose theme that is is (regarded as) bad. Take away one or two key boons and the whole D/D concept falls apart: take protection and vigor so the damage intake becomes unmanageable, strip might and turn the ele into a toothless bunker.

Elementalist trait lines:
The way the trait system works for most classes is each line has a theme (burning, a certain weapon, stealth, you name it). As such you can assemble a kit to fit to the situation at hand.
For Ele the themes of the trait lines are much more fundamental. Water is the reactive survivability line, Earth is the proactive one. Fire and Air are the damage lines. Arcana is a strong all-purpose line.
IMO this is the crux. You take just enough survivability lines to live and then pick your best DPS lines. For pve that means no survivability lines – rather rely on utilities and outsource defense to group members – and all damage. For pvp/wvw that means picking the strong survivability lines Water and Arcana, and then being free to pick a strong damage line, Fire being fotm.
I don’t know how to fix this problem without breaking any and all immersion or elemental themes. There are efforts like dumping damage modifiers into the water line and the like. For pvp Ele still feels locked into Water&Arcana to even become a whole class.

I think to talk about possible solutions we have to first share a common observation of the class (what is D/D objectively) and THEN we can delve into what we consider problematic (symptoms) and THEN talk about solutions that don’t break the class (core issues and fixing). For those less productively-inclined; take off the gloves and show me what you got, happy trolling!

I think a big reason d/d isn’t nerfed is because of heart of thorns and its implications for the meta.

Yeah agree, they seem to be in a wait-and-see mood right now. Rightfully so imo, with new content coming up and being worked on, new elite specs, rebalancing of revealed elite specs.
This inbetween phase sucks – balancingwise – but if you’ve ever experienced expansion launches in other big MMOs this should come as no surprise. Good thing is we’re not getting a new level-cap, so it’s only waiting for the effects the new builds have on the meta. Some of the new toys seem to be aimed at hitting d/d even.

An elite cantrip skill 60 second cooldown, 1/2 second cast time, that does literally absolutely nothing aside from proccing cantrip traits and rune set bonuses.

For me the choice would be saddeningly obvious.

^Precisely what I was thinking about rebound when it was revealed (and every second since).
Rather have a functionless cantrip with a somewhat reasonable cooldown, whose only purpose it is to be a cantrip. Call it ELE_CANTRIP_TEMPLATE#006 for all I care, no animation needed, tooltip could read ‘description goes here’.

Having Fractals not take an hour means that players can have a fulfilling game experience in a shorter, more manageable amount of time. It’s easier to fit into busy lives.

As it is, Fractals being the usual 3+1 maps just made it an unapproachable burden. With upcoming dailies and a shorter required play experience, we might see more fractal participation.

I’d prefer for them to just axe AR completely. It doesn’t serve any purpose that fractal reward level does not already cover.

Change reward level to be locked to the highest consecutive fractal level you finished on this account starting at level 1. As in have a server-side checklist where any fractal level you managed to beat gets checked off, and the game rewards you with the loot of the hardest fractal you have done without skipping one. Done.
That way:

  • You can finish higher level fractals if your group just happens to be doing it, and your reward level will catch up once you finish the levels in between. No progress lost.
  • You can’t skip fractal levels you don’t like – or on a bigger scale: The big part of the community doesn’t get carried by skipping the hard fractal levels that a few pioneers managed/bothered to beat.
  • As it’s on an account scale (already) you can countercomp certain fractal levels if needed.

Looks like the obvious solution to me – even moreso with the new system where a fractal level is a locked combination of map + fractal anomaly + enemy scaling.

The most logical route of action is to work on ways that allow classes to counter the Elementalist. Necromancers are a great example often brought up for boon strip, but unfortunately that’s about all they’re good for and against most other match ups they entirely suffer. My prediction is it’s going to be on the new Revenant Class to help out with the Elementalist situation. Malyx, in addition to being Condition focused, also is very boon strip heavy with passive traits that strip boons as well as fairly spammable active (35 energy, or every 7s) boon strip as well.

That is precisely what happened with the addition of death knights (DK) to world of warcraft in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. In pre-WOTLK WoW resto druids used to dominate the arena (3v3 pvp) healing scene. They are a highly mobile healing class that keeps their partners up via instant heal over time heals (hots). The concept did work in wow, partly also due to the fact that DK were grossly overtuned which I hope is a path that ANet will not choose.
DKs evolved over time, but always stayed a class that was made for killing healers: they have an abundance of interupt/silence effects, they have an offensive healing-absorb they can stack on targets.

In my opinion they created a super disgusting meta (melee ogre’ing down healers, pve rotation style) – but they did end the era of drawn out games that druids helped create (or rather suppressed it – last I checked druids were back). Make of that what you will.

No one uses that cookie-cutter spec in PvE, but whatever.

Let me reword that for you.
A class that has one spec per game mode that dominates because it offers exactly what’s demanded (if you’re having problems grasping that concept check out the necromancer), but leaves almost zero room for alteration:
Max burst/dps in pve, aoe at that. Check
Point bunker in pvp. Check
Well-rounded roamer. Check’ish
Ranged aoe and water fields in wvw. Arrrrr, check

Let me know if you are getting it now. You didn’t really seem stupid from your other posts, so here’s me hoping nothing happened to your head lately.

99% agree with OP. I don’t think you are right about staff wvw, but that’s not what this thread is about.
The thing is, what can you give to ele without introducing mechanics/boons that don’t fit their theme, and what mechanics can you introduce to a class that is so well rounded? Or rather, to a class that has one single cookie-cutter spec to excel in every game mode.

Not saying that a frontliner without stability with absurd channel times to get the same results that vanilla elementalist can get without casting is not a hilariously flawed concept.

1) learn their invuln frames
1a) Evasive Arcana is a strong incentive to dodge in a certain element in a certain point in the fight, it’s different for every ele, but you can often see a pattern in a player’s style
2) Immobilize/condiburst/burst after they just left water. This one is huge and will force them to burn through their long-cooldown utilities quickly.
3) dodge fire, stunbreak air/earth. Almost every fire move is worth burning a dodge on, so you have to make do with stunbreaks/stab/teleports on the ele cc imo
4) cele ele is stronk
5) earth/water and air→fire are often coupled in the rotation, so the ele has a defensive phase (earth protection up, frost armor, water dodge roll, water condi cleanse) and an offensive phase (transitioning from earth#4, trying to land air control and connect fire damage)

During the first one to two rotations d/d gets stronger (building might stacks, working towards perma fury especially for fire cele, swiftness uptime especially for air cele etc). On the other hand d/d longevity is hardcapped by their long cd utilities. I think this is the one big thing you have to understand about d/d cele, besides the attuning-out-of-water thing.
If you can’t overwhelm them quickly or force them to burn through their cds it might not be in your interest to fight them at this point in the game. If you got them on the defensive they are your kitten though.

Also one of the phoenix lightning flashes in there was just beautiful, such a hard-hitter if you can pull it off and the stars align.

Joining with my guild – meeting in diessas – and then joining the actual fractal together works fine like 99% of the time. And with no one in diessas it fails 99%.

So assuming I am suggested opening a new fractal upon trying to join my pug group that’s already in – fifty times in a row… Are there any tricks to make it work? It seems as soon as you join a group that’s jumped into the fractal and thus left diessas lab, there’s no way to join them. Which is a kittening joke for an MMO in 2015, that’s what… 3 years on live?

I tried:
waypointing in LA -> nope
closing the popup and running into the fractal gate -> nope
joining diessas lab with wrong fractal settings and trying to join my group from there -> nope
relogging -> nope

Are there any ways to make it work? This is kittening me off so much, and I can’t believe I’m so close to quitting again over this aids group system in GW2…

Misrepresenting my argument with a fine example of the Strawman logical fallacy. Well done, at least you gave me a good chuckle. Briefly i’ll correct some of your misrepresentations while I still chuckle. I won’t argue with your figures, just mention that at no point did I list my armour/runes/sigils/etc combination so your figures seem to be based upon an assumption which you then use to prove a point.

1) If a player is happy to lie dead, upscale a boss fight and watch other players earn their rewards for them then fine, its a playstyle I don’t understand but whatever floats your boat.

2) The whole sentence read, “And worse, detracting from others’ DPS as they stop fighting to rezz, haha, thereby causing negative DPS!” If you don’t wish to touch on a point why touch on it by misrepresenting it? The sentence is self explanatory, provided most of the words are not pulled from it.

3) Another misrepresentation of my point. The remainder of which read, “Thats not to say those people won’t still use full zerker just that I, or others like me, may need to rezz them less often.” Thereby stating that those zerker users who are not button mashers will die less often than those who are and in no way implying that the use of zerker stats ruled out use of dodging, etc.

All in all, a fine example of trolling and I thank you for the laugh. I need to go now though as I have GW2 open and i’m sure I can hear calls for rezzing!! :P

You are the one making strawman arguments, not me. Feel free to link your gear setup. Just realize that those number were actually being gracious by using offensive everything and just replacing gear with soldier stats, which again is being gracious. I’m always eager to learn – even if that means being proven wrong. I have a feeling though you won’t (be able to) deliver.
I’m glad that I made you happy. For all the wrong reasons and your manic chuckling is kinda annoying, but it is what it is.

1) One of your numerous strawmen. I’m not advertising this playstyle. I’m only ‘proving’ that a zerker that’s dead 50% of the time is doing as much upscaling and as much damage as a soldier that never downs/ never rezzes/ has the same uptime. Anything better than that and they will grant benefits that you will not be able to offer, however good you are playing. It’s a numbers game.

2) You are the one lowering your dps both by not going zerker AND by rezzing zerkers. Good zerkers don’t get downed as often, average zerkers rally off other zerkers kills, bad zerkers are a lost case either way.

3) Bad players will down if you paint them in zerker, or in soldier, or in nomads. The threshold for getting downed as zerker is lower, obviously, but if you want to survive as zerker you can. And if you want to get downed as soldier you will find a way. My point is that playskill is a much more ‘responsive’ variable so to say than gear, when it comes to survival. Even profession probably is, but that’s hard to put in numbers.

On the comment that zerks don’t die more, I would have to see stats from ANet about that. But I have asked people after Teq that I rezzed alot what gear they were running, and so far the biggest group reply has been zerk. As I said works for some people but have also seen it not work for a lot of people.

So again, if you perform well in zerk, great enjoy. If you are a liability to your side, you might want to switch some things out till you find a balance for your playstyle. Good hunting!

If you ask people that don’t die on teq you will get the same answer: mostly zerk… It’s because that’s what people wear on a critable boss that has easy mechanics.

Or, how much better is zerker DPS when a lot of zerkers spend half a fight lay on the ground doing zero DPS?

Taking into account the opening burst, above calculations show that in fact a zerker that literally spends half the fight dead does the same damage as a soldier that goes full throttle for 100% of the fight. Have him in down-state for a few seconds before dying and he overtakes the soldier in damage. (The argument is even more absurd when it’s backed up by numbers I just realized xD)

This is an argument that only anti-zerker-meta players will understand, so I won’t touch on it. Just highlighting it for now.

Face rolling button mashers will always prefer zerker, those of us that know how to dodge and use attributes/runes/sigils/food/utilities know there are other options available which may help keep you alive longer.

I’ll follow the assumption of the argument that you suddenly forget how to dodge the moment you put on zerker’s gear. To put the options into perspective I’ll take gw2power’s interpretation of my ele, which btw feels quite accurate:

Zerker:
effective power = ~5400
effective health = ~12500

Soldier:
effective power = ~3000
effective health = ~33500

Knights:
effective power = ~3600
effective health = ~21000

Zerker with Soldier jewelry:
effective power = ~4100
effective health = ~21500

Zerker with Knight jewelry:
effective power = ~4400
effective health = ~17000

tldr: knights is horrible, soldier loses around 45% of zerker damage while at least offering facetankability

OP would’ve loved ragnarok online and its community.

Trains of 50 monsters gathered by 1 class – which was the only class with a mount – and players (including me) got the most fun out of overrunning everyone that got in our way.
There was an item that would instantly teleport you to a random place on the same map. If you made a reputation for yourself the only thing you’d see of players not in your group was them teleporting in panic as they enter your screen xD

Such an kitten thing to do but so funny if someone was too slow to teleport.

Alternatively, I have found a few cases where an organizing guild would swap maps if someone outside of their guild placed banners and food down before the organizing guild had the chance, and they effectively rage quit onto another map.

I’m in a group that regularly does Teq and I’ve heard people go literally apekitten and insult others in mapchat for placing banners. And this is by people that were treating me like an outcast for saying kitten (a strong word for the act of love, in case it’s censored on the forums) in guildchat.
Why are people so deeply insulted if others place banners – which I assume they do with the best intentions imaginable. I know there are boatloads of literally crazy people in this game, but this is one of the issue where I can’t make any connection between action and reaction.
Anyone care to enlighten me?

Don’t forget all the ingredients that Chefs make!

Agree with the idea. Chef right now is a huge headache if you are crafting heaps of highly refined food with multiple steps.
I can see some of them being assumed to be placed in the account bank (vision crystals), because of the low frequency you acquire them. But I’m all for more convenience/accessibility.

  • Beautiful world! I can’t stress this one enough. The art team is one of a kind.
  • No gear resets, extreme diminishing returns on power gain per time invested once you hit full exotic, account-bound gear!
  • f2p. I recently came back after a long break, bought the S2 episodes that I missed and don’t feel like I’m far behind.
  • Combat system (the concept at least): few skills, active defenses, no tanks
  • The way professions feel different when playing
  • Shared loot, shared nodes
  • Account-bank, account-storage, account-wide achievements, account-wide unlocks, etc

I keep hearing engi is the go-to profession for condi damage in pve. I’m looking for a build for triple trouble wurm to down the condi targets and assist boss damage.

I’m totally lost for a third trait line, and pretty much all utility slots really. I’m thinking bombs and grenades. Last one I’m thinking yolo Elixir Gun + HGH because might. Or tools for utility and 10% direct damage. Does chemical rounds increase condi duration >+100% (the necro one does, so I assume the answer is yes).
The thing is besides pistol#4 and IP, Shrapnel, Sharpshooter everything else feels so inconsequential.

/e: Just found Rocket Boots -> Rocket Kick. Sweet. With the tools line it has the same cooldown as pistol#4 which makes it hard to miss that one.

This has been happening awhile and I’m sure there is a thread already for it but I’m stating this anyhow. The fire charr who shoots out flames everywhere….well alot of the aoe fire rings are completely invisible. You can’t see anything hitting you yet apparently you’re standing in the fire. Please look into this as it is very frustrating to suddenly go down when basically nothing is visibly hitting you.

lol, I just recently came back to GW and was wondering how I can be so incapable of reliably doing some mechanics. One day on the forums later I have seen bug reports for every single mechanic I’m ‘sucking at’.

If there are so many PHIW players in this game and there is a LFG tool that allows you to specify what you are looking for, then how come there are unhappy PHIW players (on the forums) ._______________.
The internet is not infinite and you are clogging it with your bonkers theories and weird requests, pls stop.
