I love Guild Wars just as much as anyone but I do not believe that ArenaNet has any obligation to maintain the game.

I believe they have an obligation to people that have put time and effort into it, to not try to kill it off so everyone goes to GW2 (cuz hint, that won’t make me wanna play GW2).

I’ve just seen some questionable choices like removing the shop from in-game to online and removing certain costumes. When GW1 has no more updates, why are you removing content from it (even if it has just been cosmetics so far)? Seems like you’re trying to kill the game or something. Maybe not, but it worries me and others. I love GW1 and so do a lot of other people (I have GW2 too, but still like GW1 a bit better).

I’ve made a lot of friends and would be sad to see GW1 go. Please don’t remove anything else from it.

Probably not for another few years. I think you’re safe if you’re trying to grind out r4 KoaBD.

Just seems like some of the choices they make are to try to dissuade new people into jumping into GW1. Like how they increased prices on certain expansions when it’s now a 9 year old game.

Funny how when people read threads that they disapprove of, they always start their counter-argument with, “There are thousands of threads like this already.” But anyways, although I do see your points, I believe there should be SOME grind in the game. Because if there were none, There would be no incentive to continue playing; at least for me.

Yes its not a good way to make an argument but to say this is saying something has been done to dead is. The OP makes it out as if you MUST grind but in truth you do not need to they are simply putting some random requirements on them self to get something or do something.
If that what you want to make of a game truly any game then it will be that way for you as a player. The big thing is in GW2 the game dose not make you need these high end items other games DO.

I do agree that GW2 does not require higher tier gear. But the fact that it’s there, and you have to grind for it. I could see why some players would be frustrated; they don’t like the idea of feeling inferior to another player with higher stats. I feel like the whole idea of gear in this game is more to boost your ego, then the practical use of it.

And again, some of you still don’t seem to get it even though I’ve now said it two to three times. No you don’t NEED these items. But if you’re not trying to get them or do FOTM what else is there to do? The living story which can easily be completed (and quite fast too), and that’s it.

PvE players are basically pigeonholed into grinding these dungeons because there is simply nothing else for them to do for endgame. I’m not going to just stand around talking in map chat after I reach lvl 80 for the rest of my gameplay am I?

Wait are you saying I don’t get it? Because you’re just pointing out exactly what I just meant.

I meant to quote the user you quoted. Honest mistake.

And @Mentalhead.572: ANet never stated when they were making GW2 that “there would be no endgame.” It was more along the lines that endgame would actually be fun and not based on grind… Which, as everyone can now clearly see, was a lie.

I don’t mind grind to an extant. I’m fairly sure it’s not even possible to have no grind in an MMO. But GW2 takes it to the extreme with their endgame grind. The difference between GW1 and GW2 for PvE players was that GW1 had a ton of storylines and quests to continue doing and it was a blast to be immersed in so much lore. GW2… Not so much.

It’s because they took out all the great parts of Guildwars 1, the dual classes, loads of skills and skill captures, the story, meaningful PvP all of it, the Longevity of GW1 doesn’t exist in GW2…

As a GW vet I feel the need to inform you I don’t miss the dual classes or the loads of skills and that I didn’t find the story very interesting. I’d also like to know how my Texans are going to do this year, since you seem to have the powers of divination. How else would you know what GW2’s longevity is?

As a GW vet I also feel the need to tell you I think the persistent world, the additional axis and the jumping puzzles it allows, and WvW are all brilliant improvements to the original. I tell you these things not because I think you’re wrong and I’m right, but to illustrate that your opinions are not universally shared.

I agree that skill hunting was a pain in the butt in GW1 but I have to agree with the person you’re quoting, the story in GW1 was miles better compared to the story in GW2.

So what people really want is WoW end game. Why? What is so great a out WoW end game. What is so great about logging in every day to raid just to get gear just to do more raid just to do it all over again when the level cap goes up again from 90 to 95.

I did all of that I don’t want to do that again. I will get what ever gear I want when I hit 80 in this game then level my alts and do the same.

WoW has become nothing but a race to level cap just to raid and run heroics. If that’s what people think of as fun well I’m glad I don’t play WoW any more.

I’m sort of confused by your comment. You don’t want a WoW-grind-like MMO, but you don’t mind grinding dungeons for endgame in GW2? Um… What?

Thing is I don’t have to grind those dungeons if I don’t want to.

So what do you actually do? beside pvp and wvw.

Whatever I want to in the game. PvP WvW, events whatever I want to do I do it. I go back and I even do low level quests and I have fun doing all of that. End game is what ever I want it to be in this game.

Like I already stated, I am not a PvPer, and going back and doing lower lvl quests isn’t endgame content.

So all you really want is WoW style raids for more gear. Got it umm why don’t you go play WoW then I hear that they are bleeding subs right now.

Where the heck did I mention raiding? Oh wait, I never did. What is with you and trying to bring WoW and raiding into this thread? You’re the one who seems to have a big ol’ throbber for it the way you go on about it and try to accuse others of wanting it when they never even mention it.

Also people going “living story” as the solution… Really? I finished everything for Southsun in like an hour for each update and as for it being “living story” that’s a bit laughable. I love GW2 but their living story for this last update was some weak sauce.

Their living story is easily finished, quite speedily too (and I’m not even trying to rush through it or anything).

With tomorrow’s patch, a new weapon skins merchant will be available in every full Trading Post, selling previous skins, I believe. =)

(He sells 3 different sets, to begin with, including Jade.)

The previous skins will be there for viewing, not purchase.

Why add a merchant that is basically just there to troll players… Um, thanks ANet I guess?

I started playing GW2 because I thought the whole point of this game was not to force the player to grind like so many other MMOs do. And yet as soon as you get to endgame, the only endgame options that are really there is to grind.

  • FOTM= Grind!
  • You want that dungeon armor set? Grind the hell out of that dungeon until you end up venomously hating dungeons!
  • Want that awesome weapon skin from the event?! Well first you have a 0.004% chance to get the crate, and then you have another 0.004% chance to get a weapon skin ticket in that crate. Basically, more grind!

ANet, you’ve created an endless cycle of grind for endgame, and you lied to everyone who bought your game. I love GW2 but it has in no way delivered on it’s promises.

Because everything you listed is a cosmetic upgrade, and because cosmetic upgrades aren’t required to play the game, you’re not being required to grind anything. The only thing you’ve got a legitimate complaint on is Fractals, but that was designed specifically for grinders. Complaining about grinding in Fractals is like going to a strip club to complain about nudity.

You’ve really lost the whole entire point haven’t you? THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO DO FOR PVE PLAYERS! Does endgame consist of standing around talking in map chat all day? Because that’s what you’re basically telling me.

Getting dungeon armor isn’t that hard I think and fotm is optional. The only point I agree with is the weapon tickets part. No one likes rng.

The thing is when that’s all you have for endgame… What else are you going to do? Stand around and talk on map chat all day? RP is great & all but I don’t want to do it 24/7 in GW2.

If players stop buying them, then they will stop selling them.
It’s that simple.

People are dumb though and will keep supporting this gambling mechanism.
And yes, this is bad for the overall game, because the money goes to NCSoft, and they will use that money on Aion and other games.

I really really hope the people who are dumping tons of cash into the RNG gamble-mill will finally realize as much and close up their wallets. That’s what I’ve done. There’s just simply no point in spending money on a crate that gives you a 0.004% chance to get a weapon skin. It’s a total waste of money, and ANet should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for pushing such a model onto players.

School of Necromancers (Role-Playing Guild)

in Looking for...

Posted by: Beligerent.1324

Beligerent.1324

School of Necromancers is a role-playing guild that I have started up on my own due to many reasons. One, is that I feel as if the role-playing guilds that I have seen and have been apart of in GW2 haven’t been very well done. There are exceptions of course and there are a few that are excellent, but I feel as if I can add something more to the world of Tyria.

What You Can Expect From the School of Necromancers

  • Branching storylines that will continue on to the next day and the next until fully realized to completion.
  • An accepting atmosphere of equality for everyone no matter what.
  • Story events where the guild will get to vote on future outcomes.
  • A more complex story experience that doesn’t just revolve around the characters actions against the world of Tyria or the players that inhabit it, but also the players internal struggles, needs, and wants brought out into the light to create a rich story experience. I want to see personal growth or degeneration.
  • ICC & OCC guild meetings where we will decide how to move forth with the guild, resolve issues, promote growth, discuss where our current role playing is taking us and if we should continue in that direction or find a way to change our direction, and of course, have fun and learn about and from one another.

Rules

I don’t actually have a lot of rules, and my one BIG rule goes back to one of the bullets from what you can expect from the guild. So what’s this rule that’s so important to me? An accepting atmosphere of equality for everyone no matter what.

This means do not judge anyone based on their sexual orientation, gender, religion, political views or anything else for that matter. I don’t care if you’re gay, bi, lesbian, androgynous, gender-kitten, straight, male, female, or whatever else is out there! In my guild no players should ever be made to feel like they can’t just be themselves. I want just that. Be you!

Expectations

  • Have a grasp on the English language (this means your grammar and spelling skills should be at a high school level). There can & will be exceptions made for players that really do have difficulty and are trying their best.
  • Ask if you do not know (I don’t think this one needs further explanation).
  • Know the proper role-playing manners and if you do not know them, ask, and you will be given a run-through (don’t sweat, it’s really not that complicated!).
  • Tell me or an officer if you have have plans to not be online for an extended amount of time so you won’t accidentally be kicked out of the guild.
  • Have a back-story for your character.

What the School of Necromancy is not

  • We are not an ERP-Guild (erotic role-playing-guild)!
  • We are not a PvE focused guild.
  • We are not a PvP or World vs. World focused guild.

And that’s about it. Right now I’d really like as many necromancers as possible but I am willing to take all classes. For an invite to the guild or for questions you may have, contact me in game using my forum name or my in-game character name, Shalista Nivona. Thanks for taking the time to read this really long guild recruitment post and I hope to soon meet and befriend you!

Yeah, I just wish that more players refused to buy them because we still have those players who want it so bad that they are willing to spend $100 and up to try and get them. Aesthetics is a HUGE part of gameplay for me in MMOs because I am very much into collecting fashions and skins and this RNG thing just totally has me feeling stabbed in the back by ANet.

I used to defend the crap out of them and thought they were the best developers in the West and now I have to hang my head low and say I was totally wrong.

I assume that when you said you cleared your cache, you mean the gw2cache folder where awesomium is located and you did this while the game was not running.

Open Internet Explorer and go to https://tradingpost-live.ncplatform.net/. Can you see Invalid Authorization? Is the certificate valid with 0 errors?

No proxies, recently changed security settings, antivirus or firewall changes?

Possible fixes:
Delete gw2cache folder.
Clear dns (command prompt): ipconfig /flushdns
Reset tcp/ip (command prompt): netsh winsock reset
Run the game in administrator mode.
Update root certificates.
Disable anti-virus/firewall/web security (programs that block web sites). For example, McAfee (I think it was) can disable the TP by just having it installed.

If you want to get more advanced, you can download Fiddler to act as a proxy so that you can determine what the trading post is accessing or trying to access and what it’s receiving and go from there.

I did all this accept for the very last thing and it’s still saying “ERROR: Invalid authorization” in that page you linked. Guess, I’ll try the client and see if it worked anyways… Not feeling very hopeful.

How about you guys just fix it so the AH isn’t run using a browser? People have been having problems with it since launch, and I’ve never had so many problems with an AH in a MMO. I do everything that is suggested, clearing the cache, restarting the client, and I even went ahead on my own and downloaded ccleaner and ran that. All of this to no avail. It’s not my connection I have all bars filled up with zero connection problems. It’s not my firewall.

You know what it is? It’s a terribly implemented AH is what it is, and I’m shocked that ANet has been so stubborn that they refuse to find an alternate way for the AH to work besides using an in-game browser when so many people have problems with it and have had problems with it since launch.

I’ve cleared my cache, restarted the client several times, tried porting to an area then restarting and porting to LA figuring maybe it was something to do with LA and latency, and I ran ccleaner and I STILL cannot access the AH! I’m running out of things to do here and getting severely frustrated seeing as how I had zero problems with the AH yesterday, and have never had this hard of a time with it!

Is ANet ever going to scrap this AH and build a new one that isn’t run through a browser because this is ridiculous and I’m not the only one who has problems with it. Some people I talked to told me that they’ve never been able to access the AH and can’t even buy anything besides sell items!

I said this in another thread, but I’ll just say it again here…

The achievement should stick around, so when you reach level 75 you should be able to munch on it and get the achievement point. I don’t foresee Owain giving up on making omelettes.

I’m currently still working on my ability to see the future, but know that if other devs intend to change those things and break the achievement, I will fight tooth and nail for it to not be touched.

I’m just sort of curious why was this made a lvl 75 only achievement in the first place? A lot of lower levels are doing the events and it seems a shame to be punished because you’re not almost max-level for an event/living story-only achievement.

I didn't mind Southsun Cove, now I hate it.

in Last Stand at Southsun

Posted by: Beligerent.1324

Beligerent.1324

I was there during the event in killing the Karka and even though the event “bombed” at the end, I had fun exploring the isle; fully. Now, I am doing it again for the story update and this place sucks.

I can’t sit for 2 seconds (literally) at the old entrance camp sites, without some event or wild life; attack the place every 3 minutes; after a previous event or wild life situation.

On top of that, I am constantly bombarded by NPCs that you have to kill, to the point that this place is more “Clustered” than other parts of the world and its so bad to the mark that I am no longer admiring the isle on its out take but more I am trying “Not to die” by additional mobs or high respawn rates or stumbling on to a mob veteran mobs (which seems to be everywhere).

I am not quite sure what you did Arenanet to the place but its just so “clustered” with mobs and events and now with this article update that you want to update the game with small patches every 2 weeks, it really seems a bit too much on a casual’s perspective.

Pretty sure you did not mean to make the Isle like that and “Fun” was on your perspective but the amount of “Trash Mobs” just to explore, needs to be toned down by alot so there is some breathing space to actually absorb the surroundings.

I understand that almost 2 weeks has passed but I am really turned off by the “Cluster” of events and mobs, on top of that, frustrated in trying to do these achievements.

Honestly, maybe in the benefit of the doubt, after trying to readjust my gameplay back to getting use to GW2 game mechanics, I am being a little rusty.

However, if I am still turned off after giving it one more day with 12 hours of gameplay, I honestly dont think I will bother or look forward to the May 28th patch.

Everything in this post is a personal opinion but in this latest patch, it really does suck. I dont know but it just seems to be harsh on players that come back at a later date and seems to be a on a path that is “unforgiving” to players that leave 3 or more weeks (If future zones are going to be this “clustered”).

I’m sorry but I think you’re being overly dramatic. I did all the achievements that I possibly could (couldn’t get the one where you eat an omelet because I’m not level 75 yet) and I found it quite easy to avoid mobs and only died once while getting all the achievements.

Also, it’s a living story where the wildlife and settlers are warring against players and NPCs. It’s like a mini-war, so what did you expect? If you’re really having that many problems I’m going to have to chalk up to you being a bad player because it’s not harsh at all. To be honest I thought it could have been made more difficult (besides the Crab Toss and two alternating events with the Settlers).

Beligerent.1324

While I was initially disappointed because this living story, really didn’t feel like a living story to me because of the lack of story it seems to have, I have to say this is a very entertaining event. Hunting down all the achievements was fun, and as frustrating as it was getting all the Crab Toss achievements, in the end it was very rewarding to get it done and I wear my “Crab Toss Champion” title with pride (plus the Crab Toss is pretty fun just to play).

You did a great job on this event ArenaNet, and my only suggestion is that you maybe should have gone ahead and just called it an event instead of a living story because compared to the last living story it seems like there isn’t enough, well, “story” going on. Keep up the awesome work (figured you guys could use a thread that gave you a bit of props to give you a break from all the critical ones)!

Like I already stated (please read) I use strong passwords. I also don’t visit or download from “weird” pages. My computer is clean.

And yet you keep getting unauthorized connections even after changing password, so clearly something is wrong.
And IF it were an issue with ArenaNets security it would be a much bigger issue than just a few “hacks” here and there.

The issue isn’t on my end. I use an anti-virus program. I don’t download anything unsafe and even if I think it’s safe make sure to scan it. My password isn’t obvious. The only other thing I can do is change my email, which I’m not quite sure if I can even do as it is linked to my GW account too.

My computer is fine. I have malwarebytes and regularly update and scan it. The fact that this sort of thing has been going since the game launched and that I’ve played on three different computers over the course of playing GW2 tells me that it isn’t my computer.

If that is the case you most likely have a weak password, the same password everywhere or simply download weird stuff or visit weird pages.
IF they had breached ArenaNets servers there would be massive amounts of “hacks” which is clearly not the case.

Sounds to me like you have a backdoor keylogger installed. I’d be looking for that and any other backdoors that have been installed.

Also if this were true I’d be having account problems with other games besides Guild Wars 2.

Somehow no matter what I change my password to, no matter how long it is, I eventually always get the emails notifying me that someone from either Canada or a random state in the US has been able to login into my account. I have never had a game account hacked so many times when I am being 100% safe and doing everything right. My password for example isn’t “password.” I try to make them difficult.

I really don’t understand the issue but I’ve changed my password once more (this time even longer and more random than usual in hopes that it’ll protect me). I’m hoping ArenaNet does something about this because I’m kind of sick of having to change my password so many times.

Plus I forgot my main NCsoft account login and it was because of this game making me change the email to the email that I bought the game with, but it used an old email to connect both of my guild wars accounts but now I can’t even play Guild Wars 1 because of this.

I am sick of having to remember multiple accounts for multiple games. ArenaNet, is there any way you could try to talk to NCsoft about it because I’ve talked to other players who have an issue with it too. I just don’t understand why there can’t be one login for all the games to save on confusion.

And this isn’t meant to sound demanding or anything. It’s an honest suggestion.
