i can’t believe so many people fell for your trolling, OP.
edit: also can’t believe ANET left your thread up.
I’ve done them all solo since game launch.
Here’s a tip: Every time there is a new build, immediately head over to the location for the Brand Devourer Queen event’s beginning. There’s always a chance it won’t be bug out for that run since it’s technically a reset. It’s what happened for me.
This is what I had to do as well. You can also file a bug report, but i don’t know that it does any good. It’s ridiculous that BOTH events that you can get the ichor from are completely bugged up. There’s a third devourer champ in GW2 that they should enable for this collection.
I’m on the last stage of grinding gold for mats for my Gifts for HOPE.
1) I soloed several of the champs on a thief
2) I highly recommend banding together with other HOPE collectors. I knocked out all the spiders in about an hour by working together with another player to find events that were up. Best place to meet them? At the starting point and at the events themselves. For the random, hardly done by normal player events, I always asked anyone else there if they were doing HOPE. Made a lot of good contacts, got a lot of help, and some primo advice. If you’re nice and polite about it, you can try messaging me in game…
3) Friday evening and Saturday late afternoon are best times to do things that are large scale events, like Dragon’s Stand. I had zero problems with these and used an event timer site (google it) to know when to do it. If you’re on low pop server, remember that you can guest on other servers. I’m on BG so I never had to try that.
4) Do your research. Every bit of advice in this thread can be found with minimal Googlefu.

Oooo lever action. Make this happen!
if we’re going to get into talking about “forced” activities we don’t like doing for dailies, get rid of fractal requirements.
But since that’s not going to happen, login to WvW and run with a zerg on Fridays and Saturdays. Use a nice AoE weapon/utility to tag stuff and knock this requirement out.
This video is awesome. I loved the use of shadow step to setup the one shot backstab. You also switched to staff at the right moments, which I thought was great. I’ve been using a staff and d/p setup in wvw roaming lately and it’s been a blast. I wish it worked for pvp, but I find that pvp requires sb, so I run different setups there.
Thanks for the love bro ! I really appreciate it. And yes unfortunately the pace and terrain of PvP is really fast, so use of anything else other than D/P— SB really is ill-advised and un-recommended. Although DE Rifle looks to bring some ranged cover support soon to come. So in that aspect, DE looks semi promising. Rifle—SB
Hello Senpai, I still use my modified build you provided a while back, still does crazy amount of damage (modded it a it more so I can push over 4k power). It may be a while but im glad you are back in NA so one day I can duel you.
mind sharing the build?
You just never do x10. X1 is much better solution.
This. I just did clovers one at a time to get 50 and I got 50 in 148 tries, which is as expected.

and literally every medium armor ever
That’s the problem. Light doesn’t have any. How hard is it to make pants in all armor classes?
Why are armors gender defined in any event? If its a body model issue, just create male and female versions of everything. How hard can it be?
Its a new world, Anet. Get with the program.
So much this.
It likely has something to do with players wanting their female character to look like women and their male character to look like men.
If you want to wear something more traditionally associated with gender, you’re still free to do so and you’ve still got options. But, I’m not sure how your comment applies to the aforementioned male chest revealing and female chest revealing items. Are you saying that chest revealing men look like women? Or vice versa? I’m not clear on your point here.
And by the way, anyone asking for skimpy male armor in the light or heavy classes is either blind, stupid or lazy.
The only people in this game who have a legit gripe over non-skimpiness are male medium classes. End of story.

I’ve a question for those of you that are saying that the game is sexist for having some ‘skimpy’ armors for females: what do you say to female players, regardless of their own real life proclivity, that want there to be these types of armors for their female characters? Over the years I’ve asked of the many female gamers I’ve met, particularly in both gw1 and gw2, whether they’d life for ‘skimpy’ armors to be done away with completely. And almost without exception the answer has been an emphatic Kitten No (with only one exception that comes to mind of an older gamer that would only make Asura). I mean, if its something women also want, is it still sexist?
I’ll field this one. IMHO, it’s not sexist to offer skimpy/revealing/sexy armor for women, what is sexist, is that there is not ALSO, skimpy/revealing/sexy armor for the men.

skimpy implies the revelation of body parts deemed “sexual.” Hairy chests, while possibly sexy (I hope so, having one), doesn’t quite equate to cleavage, posteriors, and similar areas that are revealed on female characters.
I agree totally with the general tenor of the OP. I’ve been wanting more pants and the like for female characters. It shouldn’t be that female characters are treated like swimsuit models while male characters are dressed in tortured armor configurations (who can actually fight in more than half of those crappy armors?). Why are armors gender defined in any event? If its a body model issue, just create male and female versions of everything. How hard can it be?
Its a new world, Anet. Get with the program.
As someone who has only the Gifts of Fangs, etc and the amalgamated gemstones for HOPE, I’m not sure that I agree its super time consuming for the COLLECTION. In fact, that was actually pretty easy with the exception of the bugged champ devourers. I knocked out the event-based parts of the collection in rapid succession over the course of about a week. If you’re on a low pop server, I can see how it might take much longer. I’m on BG, so no issues for me.
As for time-gated ascended materials, this is why you build up a reserve of the once per day mats even when you aren’t actively pursuing something. I built up 30 or so and kept them in my bank for almost a year before doing HOPE.
Pact map bonuses are a great way to get your T6 mats.
Ultimately, its the T6 mats and amalgamated gems that are crushing me. AGs in particular are obscenely scarce with very few ways to get them. The recipes are all more expensive than just buying them. The few bags that drop them are also not the easiest to obtain. That’s the one area where I think we really need some relief.
Don’t forget about Mystic Forge material promotion recipes btw.
Personally I have my favorites, but I mainly just use them to reduce the cost of porting by getting closer.
WvW map FTW.
If you do the math, you can buy the basic preorder PoF and direct buy the gems for the same cost as the uber deluxe whatever version. Basically what you’re getting in that package is the couple of extras that boil down to some skins and access to a “room” with all the crafting/vendor/etc stations in it. And an extra character slot. Which you can easily purchase with a lot less gems. The uber deluxe package isn’t really worth it.
It’s not a supply issue; it’s a demand issue. When you have full blown farms operating essentially non-stop and the price is still high, demand must be far in excess of supply. Strangely, you’re not complaining about the outrageous price of amalgamated gems or one of the other essential T6 mats which are at the same or nearly the same price level as hardened leather. Protip: currently it costs less to buy the final product than the hardened leather necessary to generate the final product.
Yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing. A demand issue is a suppy&demand issue. It can’t be one without the other =P
It most certainly can be. Demand doesn’t have to increase for supply to decrease (think crop failure), nor does an increase in demand guarantee a decrease in supply or an increase in price (they keep pumping out those iPhones at the same price points).

Deadeye has serious mobility issues. Even when not kneeling, mobility is an issue.
Swiftness is hard to come by with builds that use DE. Trickery trait requires no target to be useful for just getting the swiftness.
Mark needs to not require target.
My targets were dead by the time Malice stacked. I’m doing currently doing pretty good with Lead Attacks and other damage increase bonuses. Malice upped the damage, but giving up mobility and other benefits is probably not worth it overall.
Dodge should cancel kneel. Movement of any kind should probably cancel it.
I’d rather have Malice as a new condition in general, rather than tie it to Mark. Steal is just much, much more flexible and provides so many different kinds of options. The one thing I really like about Mark is that I don’t HAVE to close the gap. However, not closing the gap makes it difficult to use RFI with P/P. If you’re already at range, it puts you way out range. That’s not good.
If Mark worked without target, that initiative on steal would actually be worth something. RFI has been great for p/p when combined with the steal/init, if, and only if, you steal first. Otherwise, RFI takes you well out of range of your target. It’s like your target having a gap maker on YOUR thief. Also, with the Deadeye spec, swiftness is much harder to come by and maintain. That’s my chief problem with the spec. If you dare to go P/P and Rifle, you’re going to have trouble with movement speed without shortbow. And if you give up a utility slot for shadow step, you’re gimping yourself in other ways. If they actually made Mark not need a target, you’re trading your primary mechanic for the ability to proc boons with the profession skill. Not a good trade off.
Deadeye has a lot of potential, but it has some major design issues. I want it to work very badly, but I was disappointed by my demo.
If you play daredevil and can’t solo kill 3 more skilled players you have l2p issues. Other classes just don’t have any tools to fight against good daredevil. Even if you use reveal daredevil is still much better class than others.
Let’s see some videos of you killing 3 “more skilled” players solo, please. That’s video of you, not some famous GW2 pro.
I’ve been waiting for a very long time to run P/P with Rifle (when HoT was still not released). I’m looking forward to it immensely. Especially roaming in WvW. There is going to be some rage posting going on.
Ive run 3 builds without trickery…..literally….I just started GW2 earlier this year and its rare for me to switch builds soooooo……
Please share those builds. I’ve tried running a few builds without the extra init and it was a painful experience every time. Especially in WvW.
Update: After the new build today, I went back to Fields of Ruin. The event to escort the yak through Sniper’s area spawned but would not complete. Shortly after it stalled, the champ icon came up but the devourer is still invisible or otherwise inaccessible. Attempts to use blink and Shortbow 5 all fail in the area with purple ground and in the woods.
I went over to kill the champ queen in stead and the event chain reset and a group of about 6 people all gunning for HOPE collection were able to bring it down and get the item. We started the chain all the way back at Scalecatch wp and followed everything all the way through. Don’t know what bugs it out, but it shouldn’t come down to new builds or server reboots to get necessary items for collections. If the build hadn’t dropped today, who knows how long this would have gone on.
So, let me get this straight: this is a “solution” to inventory problems, BUT I’ve already spent a lot of gold to get the space I need. I don’t have many issues with space anymore, so how does this system benefit me? It seems more like a gold sink than anything else. Also a time sink. And a poorly conceived idea to increase the amount of activity in and around heart vendors. This sort of thinking is what led to Legendaries being based on collection “stories” that take you all over the map to places you haven’t been since you were leveling.
No like.
Both events are currently bugged. It’s invisible in Field of Ruins and Sentinel Whiptail and his chain is bugged on the first escort event. The devourer you protect is off on an adventure and Whiptail is stuck in his starting location. This is the only thing keeping me from completing the HOPE IV collection.
As a member of the deaf community, [..] it’s an unbelievably toxic environment.
I’m sorry that you’re interpreting reports of voice comms as a toxic environment, but without having experienced it for yourself, I find it quite unfair for you to paint the various and different server communities with such a broad brush.
As a member of the gaming community in many, many games over the last 15 years, with many, many friends in them to tell me all about it, plus what I see in chat and, cough, forums, it’s a fair statement. If your particular TS community is pleasant and welcoming, I’m glad to hear it.
If only 1 cmdr is on, and the squad’s not full, what’s the justification for this punitive action (cuz its only punitive). This is true also in those cases where cmdrs boot people for not having certain classes. Perhaps a little more credence if the zerg is full, but punitively obnoxious if its half empty.
This is kind of what it comes down to. If a commander takes the extra step of booting deaf people from a squad that’s not full, there’s no way to claim that it isn’t discrimination. Can someone please tell me what is lost if a member of a non-full squad doesn’t meet the requirements? If I lag behind or miss some maneuver, so what?
The largest, most successful group in Eve got to be that way by taking advantage of this exact disparity in view point. When they started, there were elitist groups and commanders who wanted “only the best.” So this group recruited heavily among noobs, unskilled, clueless, ragged, depraved, careless, and uncompetitive players and taught them how to win while having fun.
I’d like to take every commander in WvW and move them over to Eve Online. Commanding a fleet is orders of magnitude more complicated than running around in circles on a static map, hitting the same targets, with the same limited number of tactical options, and the same tidy little scoring system. If I can participate at full effectiveness in a fleet or, more accurately, several coordinated fleets, with nothing but chat and in game fleet tools, I’m absolutely certain you can do it in this pale imitation of group combat.
As a member of the deaf community, I’d like to say to people like the commander in the OP, you better believe I matter. Just because you’re a terrible commander who can’t figure out a way to make best use of text methods (like delegate to a second, perhaps a scout who has the freedom to type) doesn’t mean I’m worthless. I played EVE Online for years and had zero problems using chat in fleets that number in the 100s, many more than your pathetic “zerg.” Perhaps you’d have fewer problems if those people were in your squad, but you don’t know how to use that tool to maximum effect either.
Not everyone can use TS. And many people won’t, even if they can, because it’s an unbelievably toxic environment.
My interest in that particular group type isn’t focused on what’s best overall. Just at what would be “cool” for P/P thieves. Having someone to help keep you alive and someone to help you overcome logistical problems and add group stealth, plus the delicious burst of three thieves just sounds like fun. It goes with my general thought that maybe p/p thief should be thought of as machine gunners in real combat.
If you click that little icon in the top bar, select a map, and it loads… you’re a WvW’er.
I’ve essentially played nothing but P/P thief since the game launched (with a 1.5 year break that I’m returning from). I’ve played it when it was terrible, when it was meh and when it was slightly less meh (now, apparently). I’m terrible at WvW. I freely admit this. But I still have fun in WvW with P/P. I die less than you’d think I would.
I’ve often wondered if the key to the P/P thief is to simply think of it as part of a group, rather than an individual. In the same way that a machine gunner works in a squad. It can lay down damage, but it’s not very mobile and requires support. I’ve always wanted to see a Guard + 3 P/P Thieves + Mesmer run around for small gang action. I think the general opinion of P/P thieves would change then.
I also think that because the general meta doesn’t account for P/P thieves, few people really know how to work effectively with them.
Finally, after just starting to play again, I’ve used a build that invest heavily in life stealing/HP return. Reflects hit me, but they seem to do far less damage. Yesterday, I could see that I was getting shots reflected, but on a whim, I just kept blazing. You know what? He went down. He couldn’t keep it up as long as I could. Not sure why, but I was surprised.
Anyway, P/P for life, yo. Still, it could be better. I kind of like the idea of dealing with it as a two-handed weapon. I use 1/2/3 almost exclusively.
People justifying AFK on the basis of “not being able to get back in” are crazy. The reason there’s a queue is… because people are AFK’ing because they’re afraid they won’t be able to get back in. Since the dailies encourage casual players to pop in to get their 3rd completion and leave, let them get in and leave. The queue will drop. I was on at 10 to 12 central last night (after primetime), yet the maps were full of regulars and there were minimal queues. Because the casuals were done for the day. Geez, leave the map and let the others cycle through. This is one of those problems that people make worse with selfish thinking, like people who try to pass everyone in a turn lane and cut in at the last minute, trapping everyone in the main traffic lane behind them while they wait for someone to let them in.
Range. It needs range. I gave up the game after the nerfs. I’d come back for range.
And talking like that is why the devs probably don’t believe in this class
Please stop with this argument. It’s just not true.
Since day one a LOT of players gave insightful feedback of what was broken-OP and what was under-par about the thief class, without resorting to insult or arrogant behaviour.
No dev gave a kitten about that. So there comes a time when the patience is over, and NOT due to playerbase’s fault.
And perhaps you’re right, but negativity sure as he’ll isn’t going to help us anymore than we are right now (and we aren’t)
If the devs are withholding support and development of the game on the basis of our “attitudes,” then they’re idiots. Are you suggesting that “if we behave” daddy will reward us?
DEAD MAN WALKIN’
Unacceptable. It’s just that simple. Unacceptable.
Of course. I’m not playing anymore since you’ve managed to destroy P/P thieves. So why should I care how you’ve managed to further crash your game?
Strange how “specs do not work in zergs” morphed into “survive entire night of… zerg fighting.”
Since you mention Dash, I assume you’re referring to a beta setup. That makes it sound like $50 stands between me and P/P effectiveness.
Yet another P/P thief applying low pop WvW lessons to general play. Try any of this on a high pop server. You’ll get your kitten handed to you.
The fact is on most any high population server no stealth means dead thief. Certain specs just do not work in zergs.
There is no thief spec that fits into medium to large group combat. Thieves shouldn’t be limited to flipping camps and hunting stragglers. That’s precisely the problem. Every other class can, at the very least, operate on the back line in zerg situations. With only 900 range, thieves can’t hang with the back line, with low HP and low condi cleanse, we can’t operate within 900 of the enemy zerg or back line without dying in a hail of ranged fire. Why are thieves the only class straight jacketed by range?

You know what would be really helpful and REALLY simple for ANet to do? Have a Golem that stands in the middle of a series of concentric rings (they could put this under any current golems). The rings would be at 240, 400, 600, 900, 1200, and 1500 range from the center. That way you could figure out exactly what the range is on your attacks, and how much you can fudge it on each attack.
I wished for this exact thing when I was testing.
Thieves in GW2
The Winged foot is the symbol of the Greek God Hermes. Hermes is considered the God of thieves. one of his characteristics was great speed.
The planet mercury and the Roman God Mercury is just a renaming of Hermes and the naming of Mercury the planet was based on its speed in orbit . The Element mercury was also called “quicksilver” due to its fluid nature and how it flowed again referencing Hermes.
^ This is the correct explanation though.
No it’s not. Nothing else is explained in terms of Greek mythology.
It would start with 1200 range. Anyone who’s tried to use P/P thief in WvW would know that.
Its only a real funeral, if you delete all your thiefs – however, personally Id never go so far.
When Anet suddenly sees in their statistics a huge spike down of a massively lesser thief population… when it goes suddenly drastically towards 0, thats imo the only sign that Anet would understand, that here is somethign going really wrong with the class design and that a change by design has to be done – by either Karl finally waking up either, or Karl giving his design responsibility scepter over to an other Dev like Irenio or Robert Gee to let them fix the Thief, what he couldn’t to the likings of the thief community and concentrate hisself on other design tasks, that have nothing to do with Class Designs (not meant bad towards Karl, but one should be blind not to realize, that the the major part of the thief community currently isn’t very happy about their state of their class by his design)
Forum posters are probably less than 0.1% of the Thief community. Even if everyone who posts here deleted their Thieves we’d barely make a dent in how many people actually play the prof.
More to the point, the total number of thieves is likely very low, given the propensity for players to go for classes that deliver better results.
Getting our kitten kicked?
One day
Maybe if
If only
We’ll look into it
It’s up for consideration
It’s on the list
We promise to give it our full attention

etc
etc
etc
Do we really have to beg? Beg for something available to us for many, many years? This is absurd.
Thank you for practical observations. If only it helped us define 900.
There is something fundamentally suspect about range definitions in game.
