I’ve been using DnT’s hammer build of 3/5/0/4/2 and I find I am dying quite a lot in fractals. Of course, it’s probably me being a bad player but nonetheless, If I use altruistic healing with staff, I essentially am getting a second heal, which is great. This is for 40+fractals. Are there any builds with AH in them? How viable is the ferocity stat that is in valor? Thanks.

I’ve got an i7920@4ghz. I have recently upgraded from an old AMD 4890 to an R7 265. I figured I’d be able to max every graphical option with decent FPS. Well, turns out I barely got any performance improvement if any. My frames are almost identical as before. This is while in an isolated zone with no one around me. The new R7 265 is slightly more powerful than a 7850. I assumed that’d be enough to turn every setting to max, super-sampling enabled but I guess it’s not. Which kind of GPU should I be looking at to achieve the performance I am looking for? Thanks.
So I just got booted from a COE Path 3 dungeon group for having full clerics gear…wtf. I’m primarily a wvw player so I like playing ultra-support and giving as much heals, protection, and retaliation, etc as I can. I figured clerics gear would make the most sense for me. I also figured it’d be suitable in dungeons as well. But I guess it’s not…? I also have a set of soldier’s gear. Would that be more favorable for dungeon group play? Why did clerics get me booted? Thanks.
I’m not here to stir things up. I was a ranger once. As soon as I hit level 80 I, like many of you realized the faults of the class. We’re ridiculed in wvw and hated in dungeons. I stuck with it for much longer than I think any man can could. I kept lying to myself, saying “oh well once I get better gear I’ll be worthy and useful!” “Once Anet buffs us it will all be better!” It never happened. The ranger class is a joke. After 6 months of suffering as a ranger I took a long break from Guild Wars 2. I’ve recently returned and leveled a Guardian to 80, geared him up in exotics and my god, this game has come into its own. I love wvw. I love how useful I am and how much support I provide. This game is truly great if you aren’t a ranger. So for those of you with only one character that is ranger, I urge you to go through the leveling process again as a new class. You will not regret it.
UPDATE TO THE ISSUE: After all the patches yesterday this is still happening, i also noticed if you are moving and trying to sell something the second you click “Match lowest seller” it stops your movement. Really frustrating when trying to sell stuff on the run.
Hey, came here to post about this issue. Previous to this update I was always able to buy/sell in the TP window while on the move, especially useful during wvw but post update it is like you said, freezes player movement the second you click on anything in the window. Very frustrating. It is not fixed even after these numerous updates. There was just one a few minutes ago and this issue still persists.
I don’t think this is a game engine issue but rather a server-side one. Though it could also be client bandwidth issue as well. If anyone could chime in with super fast internet on their skill lag post culling removal in big fights? I have 20/5 mbps and I still get it occasionally in huge fights.
This makes too much sense.
Seems like it’s gonna take the full month to get even one skin. Think I’ll just farm some fractals/dungeons and buy them with gold on the TP.

It’s been long-over due.
The only thing my ranger brought to dungeon parties was QZ for reviving. Now it’s been nerfed so ranger really has no redeeming qualities for dungeons.
Maybe if they hired MORE THAN TWO BALANCE DEVS we wouldn’t have this problem.

Regardless if it was an NPC or not. Rangers need to be hit with the nerf bat big time. In my opinion they are the number one class right now. They have supreme build variety, hit like a truck with LB at range, and have devastating pets. There is just no counter to them.
Amazing catch! Used to always have eagle eye on but now I will try running without it.
Anyone else getting this is in huge zerg clashes? It’s relatively responsive other times but when there’s 50+ players on the screen all attacking, the game becomes almost unplayable. I don’t think it’s my connection. I have 20mbps down/5mbps up. I asked in /say chat and others seemed to be experiencing the same.

That is a big pain for my ranger. QZ is the life of my ranger every swap of my pet is my HOPE to add some damage, to do some advantage to enemy. Why they nerf the ranger Quickness?
It was primarily a result of warriors and their abuse of one of their skill thousands blades(I think that’s what it’s called). We were just caught in the crossfire.

Yeah they really dropped the ball on the ranger class. On a side note though, I see ranger’s apprentice books mention on that wiki page- awesome books! Remember reading those when I was younger.
For some reason I feel we’re in for another few months of silence from the dev team. I doubt Rob will even post in here again. Not that this is in anyway his fault. There’s just too many hurt feeling going around right now. Too hostile for any dev posts.
I’ve been a ranger in every online game I play. Something about staying behind lines and picking off enemies from a far is just so satisfying for me. I remember my experience in pve from 1-80 very fondly in GW2. I remember reading this board during that interim and not understanding all the QQ for rangers. It didn’t dawn on me until I started playing WvW and pvp how much poor build variety and underpowered weapons we had. I am a LB/GS build in wvw. I have eagle eye slotted and previously relied on quickness on pet swap, reduced QZ CD, and QZ slotted for my main damage output. I really used GS primarily as a complimentary weapon. Meaning using it for mainly blocks and swoop ability. I realized LB was underpowered while using it, even with QZ and pet swap. But JP promised us “significant ranger improvements” so many months ago and I was excited. I thought to myself " yes!, we’ll finally have more build variety and maybe even a LB buff or a revert to before SB animation nerf." Then came nerf after nerf. Our only improvements were faster velocity arrows, but this was not exlclusive to the ranger class. And better pet AI tracking but it’s still abysmal at best. And that was only for mele pets!
And now, yesterday was the final nail in the coffin. We were caught in the crosshairs of a warrior nerf. They nerfed quickness by FIFTY percent across the board! This completely destroyed my only viable build in wvw. Quickness is not even worth using now. I don’t even know what to put my extra 5 points from beastmastery in or what to swap out QZ for as most of our skills/traits or completely useless and/or bugged!
In closing, I will be back on update days but that is it. It’s really sad because the culling fix is really nice and I have been looking forward to that for a long time. Unfortunately it had to coincide with a massive ranger nerf

Yes, no point in having those 5 points for quickness on pet swap. Switch out QZ for something else as well because any form of quickness is worthless now.
Great post I hope Anet does some thing soon to make longbow a viable weapon again.
Stop. It’s not going to happen. We’ve been hoping for our promised “significant ranger improvements” for almost a year now. It’s not coming and never will. Best to move on to another game or re-roll.

My build revolves around having QZ slotted, reduced QZ cool-down, and quickness on pet swap. So now this skill does half the damage as before? I rely on ranger quickness for burst. It’s pretty much my main damage dealer.

I’m waiting for elder scrolls online. Playing a bit of Planetside 1 even though it’s pretty much a ghost town. Just can’t take the ranger profession anymore.
That’s kind of shocking they didn’t have that kind of data before. What were they basing their balance changes on? Observation?

I’m sick of waiting only to be let down time and time again. I don’t think significant ranger improvements are coming like JP said so many months ago.
I don’t know if I can wait another month to be disappointing again at lack of ranger improvements. I’ll log on to check out the new guild features and pvp map this update but I’ve really lost passion for this game and my ranger character. Really looking forward to ESO at this point.

It seems that when I swap to another skill when I am not on cool-down it is mimicking the cool-down of the skill next to it.
I’m glad they have at least acknowledged there is a problem. But my god I’m only a few minutes in and that host is obnoxious.
Can you replicate it consistently? I’ve never had it happen to me before. Although, I only swap utilities for boss fights, and they’re usually ready to be used.
It might be better to post this in the bug section though since it might not be a ranger only bug.
I can’t seem to find out how to reproduce it consistently. I primarily wvw and I would say it happens at least once every play session, definitely often enough for me to get frustrated. Swapping skills is pretty important to me as I like to use SOH active as it’s effect lasts 15 minutes and passive for traveling between fights.

edit: could this have happened if you just left water and popped signet of stone in the first skill position on your water skillbar??
I believe SOW has the 120 second cool-down. SOH is 30 seconds. No, I did not just leave water. We were attacking a supply camp and right after I was out of combat I switched QZ for SOH for faster travel. Attacking that supply camp was pretty much the first thing I did upon logging in.
Edit: oh if you mean the ninja cool-down started at 120 seconds and I captured the screen on the way down at 40: I believe it was 45 or 50 seconds as I captured it pretty soon after it began. Though it seems completely random what times it will have. I recall having QZ at 120 second cool down before. Very frustrating when that happens.

Here we can see signet of the hunt with a 40 second cool-down. Context: I was in battle, had QZ, SOW, SOS, and ROA slotted. After I was out of combat I switched out QZ(which was NOT on cool-down) for SOH and BAM, I was hit with a ninja cool-down of about 40 or so seconds.
1.)Is this a bug?
2.)What are the factors that bring about this ninja cool-down?
3.)Why is the ninja cool-down over 30 seconds? The SOH skill description says 30 seconds so why would certain cool-downs be over this?
4.)And why does it happen even though my previous skill was NOT on cool-down?

If anyone could tell me what the counter for this is as a ranger? As far as I’m aware there is none except LB aoe and random auto-attack in the hopes of landing a blow. This is absolutely not fun to play against and is why I hope ESO gets it right; because if they do I will be leaving this game for good.
I was just at Anz on EB, standing about 5 or 6 feet away from our gate(on the inside) when I got pulled towards it by an enemy on the other side. There was a zerg outside and I pretty much instantly died because apparently you are able to attack through gates. Is this a bug or intentional? If it’s intentional what is the logic behind it?
I think as the week progresses and your server earns more points the more and better bonuses you get. It shows you the percentages and which bonus is next in line when you press B.
So many “Just manage your pets better” responses.
The point of the change isn’t so much that the current pet mechanic has really bad innate management capacities, but rather that those (very, very basic) management capacities are all that you really get when your pet is on the field. A pet is a second body on the field for the Ranger. I think that the current mechanic is a gratuitous waste of that resource. There should be more interplay between the pet and the Ranger with regards to both mutual positioning and active skill-use or attacks. You can’t do that with 3 out of the 4 F-skills being taken up by “Attack this guy!” “Stop attacking that guy!” and “I’m a Pokemon trainer!” You can argue that “Oh, hey, but I get 3 unique F-skills because I have 3 different pets!” but are you really going to reduce the entire pet mechanic to 3 straightforward and typically mediocre skills with long cool-downs?
Again, what a waste. You’re not thinking big enough.
In GW2, you simply just cannot develop a profession’s maximum capacity for complex play using a single F-skill. That’s why the Warrior is so straightforward (as is the Ranger at the moment). The only real way to deepen Ranger combat and make pets have a bigger impact on play is to introduce more skill variety and skills that directly play off of your pet’s positioning and are based on your chosen pet’s family.
Furthermore, I don’t even play Ranger. That is to say, I did, but I stopped after realizing how mentally shallow the pet mechanic is and thought to myself, “I could design something better.” At this point, the Ranger profession—given it’s actual number of profession mechanic skills that have a direct impact on combat—is literally just the Warrior profession with less damage and three NPCs that follow you around, do some damage and die a lot. My overall suggestion is mostly just changes that would make me want to play Ranger again. Nobody has to get offended or insult my Ranger play (especially because I don’t even play the class anymore).
So…you’re going to slam the profession we love to play and then go on to say “don’t insult my terrible play, I don’t even play the class”. You don’t play the class, yet you’ll sit there and theorycraft up a couple hours worth of schematics about how it needs changed? I have 1010 hours on my ranger. Here’s my answer for you: play it more—practice before you speak.
You’re putting words into his mouth. Nowhere did he say “don’t insult my terrible play.” I suggest you go back and read what he said a bit more carefully.
I think you have great ideas here that should definitely be looked at and considered. You’re not offering buffs per-say to the class but rather better and more intuitive pet management options and I for one think they are brilliant.

Gonna ask this here because I haven’t gotten a response in the thread I made. If you want to be a dedicated healer in this game, is it possible to see allies health bars so you can effectively heal and better help your team? Or is this a game mechanic that was not included in order to discourage healing?
I think holding left Alt displays allied bars if you’re nearby, just names if you’re out of range? I can’t quite remember.
No, doesn’t work. I think it only brings up NPC names.
So I’m leveling an alt ele and am pleasantly surprised at the awesome aoe heal abilities staff has. Well, now in wvw where this is really useful I find myself having to throw down those aoes on random groups hoping someone needs a heal. Many times my heals will go to waste because of this. There are no health bars I can see unless I am targeting a single ally. So how do I see all of my allies health bars so I can better use my aoe heals and help my team?
