Well, you need to complete the first 9 levels of fractals before you get a chance at obtaining a ring so maybe those levels will act as sort of a barrier between rares and ascended? This depends on how they implement laurels too though. As well as future ascended gear.
I find the game is pretty well optimized if you’re running AMD plus a decent quad core.
I can’t believe this is something that Anet has to review and think about.
Right click targeting isn’t even a feature O_O.Right click is, as in almost all other MMO’s used for camera control. Almost all players are using it for camera control and in doing so left click is left open for targeting, just as it should be.
It is not a feature to right click and hold and have it target an enemy, it’s an unintended side effect that needs to go away pronto >.>
Yeah, I am very perplexed by this as well.
I think the main thing with the content people forget is that it’s their first year, meaning they got to create the holidays.
After that, it’s a case of just saving the event to file and loading it into the game when the time comes around. This means that the time they spent creating the holiday event this year will be used developing permanent content next year.
However, I believe these coming updates are the best course of action: Strengthen existing content with systems so you don’t have to spend time strengthening content you’ve been introducing all year.
If you believe they created those holidays during that time, you would be wrong. The holiday events you saw were designed far before the game’s launch and were probably in development from the beginning since they were such a big part of GW1.
I guess my hopes are they will tune existing content while giving us something new to consume as well such as a new level 80 zone or guild housing.
Personally, the biggest thing I am looking forward to is WvWvW purpose. While I think WvWvW is awesome, long term commitment to it for just the fun factor isn’t enough. Now that they will be adding titles and better rewards, this will finally open up as an end game option for me.
Source for this? I doubt this is true because we saw improvement with each subsequent holiday event, taking direct feedback from the player-base.
Not sure if it’s always been there and I haven’t noticed but the announcement page on the right side of the screen on the forum main page, is that new?
Why did I think this thread was going to be super depressing and have a list of real players that have died since release?
There is a topic that I have yet to see about upcoming updates that seriously concerns me. While I am sure there is a lot we don’t know about what is to come in the next few patches, all indicators suggest no new content, just new carrots to grind for.
Here is my point, since GW2 was released, there has been very little new PERMANENT content. They added the new island and FOTM. Most don’t visit the island aside from the Ori node so that leaves FOTM. I am not sure ANet really understands that all we have had is holiday events that expire and go away. So it is likely that we still will not see any new content until after April. So until then, we will be continuing to grind the same zones, the same dungeons, same events etc but with better rewards.
I am coming up on my third 80 and will be fully geared in no time but I truly feel as though just adding new carrots will not be enough to keep players interest till nearly summer without anything new to do. I would have bet that after all the major holiday events were over, we would start seeing new PERMANENT content but it seems that may not be happening.
If the biggest most exciting feature people are excited about is a gem store backpack, isn’t that a red flag? I seriously doubt I can keep grinding Orr or the same dungeons for many more months to come without something new.
While I appreciate what they are trying to do, tuning what they have. This doesn’t take into account that there has been very little new content since release and holiday events don’t count. So that is quite a stretch of time for players to keep playing the same content especially considering GW2 was lacking in the end game department from day one.
Do you all honestly feel as though tuning will be enough to maintain interest until new content is developed?
I recall Colin saying the new laurel system will involve new content, monsters, and quests so here’s to hoping that will keep players interested until the next update. Also I am not sure if it will be in this upcoming patch but the jumping puzzle designer made a comment on reddit recently saying he is working on the “mother of all jumping puzzles” and it will likely be released in pieces. It will have selectable difficulties ranging from baby mode to completely insanely hard mode. He said previously he designed the puzzles(such as clocktower) to be completelable by him in one run but now he his new rule is to just be able to complete each separate jump rather than the whole thing in one go. Also, in the preview for jan update, doesn’t it say there will be a prelude to a new story line?

I need 250 Vial of Powerful Blood and 50 Glob of Ectoplasm. Anyone know the best places to get these?
It’s the same thing with our amor and agony resistance. It’s absolutely ridiculous that pets are a liability to our damage/armor.
Guff would you mind posting your “Preferred” Build.
I’m currently running 30/20/5/0/5 but I’ve been running LB/SB Full Zerker for Zerging, but Id like to try a better or more sustainable build. Ideally something that will help me survive smaller encounters. I’m going to go 1HS/WH and Longbow, just wondering what Weapon stats and Runes and Armour Stats and Runes and what Utility+Elite skills you’d recommend.
I bounced around between 30/20/15/5 and 30/20/5/10/5 with QZ/LR/SoS and Entangle. For the first build wilderness knowledge was selected and matched up nicely with the three survival skills. For the second one the difference was natures protection from the NM line. I found the protection buff to proc a lot because of the low health pool many attacks will hit the threshold. It gave a decent buffer to help hit other emergency skills like LR and especially SoS. This was born of the frustration with thieves singling me out and me not paying attention. Gives me more cushion.
I played around a ton with armour and runes. The best synergy i found was with a mix of mainly beserker and for a few of the main pieces knights. Runes were divinity.
Unfortunately, against equal skilled opponents in smaller battles all the “extra defense” stuff just delays the inevitable. You will die. Period. The ranger does not have any fail safe get out of jail cards like other classes and most classes see Rangers in WvWvW as free badges so you will be targeted constantly.
I have only been able to extended my life in those situations with mild success. I recently changed my partial zerker gear to full and just go full out damage. Currently basing my gearing and buffs on someone elses 100% crit PVE long bow build. I’m 30/30/5/0/5 Right now and I can attain 100% crit(with fury buff active) with about 8 stacks using the sigil of perception. Running Ranger Runes. Full Zerker, Prec Sharp Stones, bowl of curry butternut squash soup (100+ Prec, 10%) crit damage food. QZ/LR/SoS and RaO. 1.5k-2k sometimes higher on barrage every single tick.
Even with the ranger’s flaws its still fun to try new builds even with minor tweaks. Try to do the same.
I use greatsword swoop ability as my get out of jail free card. Works wonders and has saved my life more times than I can count.
I too remember a post similar to this a while back. But yes, I agree with everything OP said. Let us turn off bloom, not everyone likes it.
Anyone else think the pet animations are a bit lackluster? They just don’t seem all that smooth or fluid to me. Not to mention the ai pathing is kind of annoying. He runs all over the place, never staying on one path. I’m not talking about attacking just when he’s following you.
I have had issues with the camera jolting while jumping up stepping stones in the Asuran starting area. Only place I’ve really had any difficulty with the camera. I just checked my camera position and it seems that mine is in the center. I don’t remember it ever being offset and can’t imagine playing it on anything other than center.
I love my ranger and I will stick with him through thick and thin.
I do think we need more build diversity though.
PHT – tanky BM evasion bunker
PVT + PPC (berserker) – LB/BM sniper
HTC – tanky conditions BM, or tanky trapper
PPV (knight’s) – for SB burst builds/skirmishingthen u can try pure damage gear for traps, conditions or burst, which i wouldnt recommend. best build tends to revolve around the BM tree and +healing.
Sorry, could you elaborate on what pvt, htc, and ppv stands for? Seen them used a lot and still have no idea what they mean.
omg that was a great video. I busted out laughing. Love the music choice! instantly reminded me of Back to the Future.
I bought GW2 deluxe edition and started playing.. ok. And when I got level 7 I realized that i bought the deluxe and should be some special items, then i went to the internet and saw the items, but I think I got them in the email and sold them in the NPC because I didn’t know what they were.
Is there anyway to recover then?
Thanks in advance.
You could try contacting support.
According to a recent interview(by Colin I believe) he said they are cleaning up Orr by spreading out the mobs making it a little bit easier to traverse and implementing new static waypoints that will always be available and never contested. This is for the update coming in a few days btw.
It really doesn’t, but then again why not? Really, so long as they make it just as available as exotics (which they are in the process of doing) it doesn’t affect the game either way.
If it’s going to be as available as exotics then there’s absolutely no point in having any level 80 exotics in the game. Exotics will be redundant.
But if that’s true, then under the old systems, rares were redundant. And if level 80 rares were made the highest tier, level 80 masterwork would be redundant.
Unless we have one tier of gear, anything below it will be ‘redundant’, as you put it. So long as the bar is set, so that people know where to reach, it doesn’t even matter where it’s set.
The issue lies within bars that are not set and kept. For those that have obtained their exotics and have reached their potential, adding another tier now lowers them vs. their new potential. How many more tiers are there going to be? How fast are they going to be implemented? How much power creep is going to set in? So many questions with potential negative impacts that could all be resolved with a horizontal progression
Didn’t they say that they aren’t adding any new tiers for the foreseeable future? I don’t remember the exact quote but that sounded like answering some of those questions/concerns you have there. I agree that what they did wasn’t something that they made clear they were going to do initially but I disagree that it was entirely out of line with where the game was going from the beginning. There was a part of the community that wanted a new tier/something new to work towards and they addressed that need. I also believe that they are listening to concerns of a different part of the community with concerns of power creep which is why they made public statements about not adding tiers beyond ascended in the near future.
If adding ascended in and of itself is a deal breaker, so be it. Make your concerns known, and they may incorporate them into future content. Compromises are made in design. The community is bigger than you and I. There will be parts we all really enjoy and some we really don’t like. Ascended for me doesn’t bother me because their statements and actions haven’t lead me to believe they intend to go Wow style power creep….yet.
If I recall correctly it was mentioned that “there will be no more tiers after ascended in 2013” in the recent overview of the next 6 months for arenanet.
I haven’t really played other MMO’s but are gear treadmills typically accompanied by new content? I would have been angry if Anet just decided to roll out new gear and tell us the only way to acquire it is to run old dungeons but they didn’t. They released/will release a bunch of new content to go along with the slight gear progression. t does not seem that big a deal to me and if it will help player retention/sales then I am more than okay with it.
Also, do you think ascended weapons/gear will have new skins? If so, that I am 100000000% okay with it!
(edited by BroScientist.9875)
Just remember whenever you need to know what is going on. Go to Facebook and look, then Twitter, then Reddit, or hope the people from a server the devs decided to have a fireside chat with post about it on the web.
Whatever you do don’t waste your time by pausing to look at that splash area on the launcher cause that would just be a silly place to put information.
Or you could come to the official forums. Right when the update went live there was a notification at the top of my screen saying exactly what the update did. Plus the launcher is there for important information. Most things do get posted there but “routine maintenance” doesn’t really seem all that important to me. At least that’s probably the thinking of Anet.
The day players can pay to have the best stats is the day I uninstall.
Did you know legendary weapons are also available to buy on the TP now?
I have noticed this as well. Was there a recent update that allowed this to happen? Or is it just because it’s been a few months and a lot of people have legendaries now and want to sell?
I remember taking however long off from the game when you tried out the December culling because of how bad it was. If it is anything like that I won’t continue playing. I don’t want to be forced into running with a big zerg as that seemed to be the only real way of keeping the culling somewhat bearable.
My main question is, why is the culling being reverted back to a system that they (at least from my understanding) got rid of because of across the board complaints? I thought maybe you would be improving it? I’ve literally never seen an MMO have the problems with culling that you guys threw at us back in December and apparently are about to throw back at us again permanently.
Yeah, I might stop playing as well.
I doubt they are going to merge servers. Even though it might be needed(IDK because I am on a populated server) they probably won’t do it because it will net them bad publicity. I would say like someone said above, give it a year.
Don’t fool yourself Aeneasx, it’s not the worst decision you’ve seen a developer make. Blizzard took that award already.
I don’t know, SOE with PlanetSide 2 might take the cake.
Model loading is fine and all but please leave the current culling system in place! You’re experimenting with your game by enabling the previous system that everyone hated. You have an assumption that it might be a little bit better because of the model assets but YOU DON’T KNOW. These are live servers so please don’t experiment on us. Just leave the culling system in place until you have a 100% eliminate culling fix ready to roll out.
I guess this post means culling won’t be fixed. Since everyone I know including myself has a top of the line system and this has nothing to do with computer performance.
Many of us tested this extensively. A thief going in and out of stealth on a mostly empty server with NO ONE around for miles other than myself will have 2-3 seconds of extra invisibility. This thief was a buddy so we were testing this.
The general consensus after the trial is that this system lead to a better player experience in WvW.
Thanks for your hard work on all this but honestly what feedback were you looking at? That change made things so much worse. I saw nothing but negative feedback.
Tests showed that enemies were loading when they were 20 feet away rather than the usual couple hundred when out in the middle of nowhere far away from groups of players. Tests were done using friends who were on other enemy servers.
This x1000.
Everyone hated the culling trial, please don’t revert back to that.
What do you think is a good number to shoot for critical chance+critical damage? How should I balance this with power?
I primarily use LB in wvw and my critical chance is 44% and critical damage is 58.
My LB is power, toughness, vitality. I am thinking I should have gotten power, precision, toughness. I want to maximize damage output while still retaining somewhat survivability. What do you think?

Not sure how to embed plus the pic is a bit blurry because it’s like a pic of a pic. Had some trouble getting the screenshot straight from gw2.
Wanted him to be bulky as possible plus color to stand out. Hope you guys like him!
(edited by BroScientist.9875)
What’s the highest damage number you’ve gotten using the LB? For me, I usually get about 4,000 using the number 2 attack and around 6,000 if I have SOW active.( this was tested using a target dummy in la)
I am trying to maximize dps with this weapon so any tips are appreciated.
Don’t know why people are always complaining about wvw performance. I’m running 5 year old hardware(i7920@4ghz+two 4890s) with everything on high/ultra 1080p and I haven’t noticed any slowdown at all in wvw. I’m in tier 2 so I am often in giant zergs and never have I experienced slowdown. I don’t keep track of my fps but I would be very surprised if it ever went below 30fps.
oh nvm, didn’t realize if you hover over the critical chance shows crit damage as well. Both are showing correct.
Actually if anyone could clarify something. Here are the stats of one ring(both are same):
power:71
presicion:50
crit damage:4%
power:32
crit damage:4%
precision:18
the first 3 are highlighted in green so not sure if the bottom 4 also count? So am I supposed to be getting +8 crit damage if you combine the two?(not sure why some things are underlined, didn’t tell it to do that)
I have crystaline band and red ring of death rings equipped and both say they increase 4% critical damage but when I equip them they only give an increase of 3%. Not sure if this is an information bug or the stats actually don’t translate to my character. Haven’t checked the other stats the rings give but there could be more errors.
yeah, I have noticed this as well. Someone on another server invited me to a group once and we chatted for a bit. I was in a zerg at the time and they were able to counter our zerg because they knew exactly where we were because of me. I left because I felt guilty and will never accept an invitation from an enemy again.
But makes me wonder how often it happens to a low level player who doesn’t really know better.
Rangers are probably the best profession for leveling in pve.
I’m not sure but if by the time the next expansion is released and still no word on dx11 implementation, I would be worried.
I probably would buy one lol.
Ranger. I used to run a pretty heavy bunker build and one day I realized I just wasn’t having fun in wvw. So I re-traited and now have 30 points in damage and 25 points in skirmishing. I do crazy amounts of damage compared to what I was doing before and I find in best case scenario with right traits+sigil I have 25% damage bonus which more than makes up for our weak pets(because pets are supposed to do a large portion of your damage you would otherwise do alone). Also run a few points points into beastmastery for slight pet buff and a few in toughness so I’m not too squishy. Also changed from SB/LB to LB/GS beceause gs has an awesome swoop ability that has saved my life more times than I can count.

Guild Halls and player housing are being worked on, but there is currently no timeframe for release.
Hmmm, I remember in a recent interview with Colin if I recall correctly he said no one is actively working on them but they do have plans for them in the future.
This is kinda confusing. I really don’t understand why it just isn’t consistent with the traits description. Give us 2 second quickness whenever we swap pets regardless of what we were doing. Either that or change the description to match!!!
Can’t really see the problem. It DOES give us 2 seconds of quickness.
No, not always. You have to be combat for it to work I believe. But it’s hard to tell what the exact specification are for it to activate because they don’t tell us!
so, in dabbling with other classes, it seems like many other classes have the ability to trait down the recharge times of both their healing / elite skills (maybe not all, but def some).
it also seems like these skills often scale, especially with power. (ie ele greatsword or the necro form do more damage if u have more power).
just feels sort of like ranger gets boned, since we cant trait down the recharges of either our heals or our elites, nor does entangle scale with condition damage, nor does the healing spirit scale with healing power. this seem fair? balanced? like fox news?
I did not know that. Seems rather unfair to the ranger profession.
This is kinda confusing. I really don’t understand why it just isn’t consistent with the traits description. Give us 2 second quickness whenever we swap pets regardless of what we were doing. Either that or change the description to match!!!
That should say dynamic level adjustment system, way back in the day we called that the sidekicking system and that snuck through to the website.
How it did so without any of us noticing is an enigma wrapped in a paradox, surrounded in a mystery.
lololololol thanks for that.
I doubt that is what he is saying. What they need to do is have the achievement separated per character. Have 8 characters, can do the daily 8 times per day, 1 per character, and the laurels would be character bound, not account bound.
So that’s exactly what I was saying… someone with 8 alts will get 8 amulets in the same time someone with 1 character will get his.
I don’t see what’s wrong with this. That player has 8 times the amount of characters and is putting 8 times the amount of effort/time so they should be rewarded 8 times the amount compared to that one player who is only doing it once.
I’m just going to parrot what someone said already: make sure you guys don’t implement too many rewards systems over-complicating things. I could see that being messy and confusing for a lot of people.
That said, I am fine having fractal rewards and this new laurel system sounds great to get people back into the world. Although, I am confident what ever future reward systems you guys do come up with will be well-thought out and logical, I hope!
I don’t know if this question was already done before, too many posts to read and i don’t have all that patience XD
anyway my question is:
Who already completed this month monthly achievemente won’t get the laurels in respect of who will complete it after the 28th update? or the laurels system will start counting monthly achievement from february?or else who did that will receive the laurels anyway?
They will start for February.
I don’t think they are going to remove any content. I don’t see why would they do that? One of the developers did say they are adding new content to make it interesting for older players that are revisiting old areas for the new laurel achievement thing, though.
“adjustments to side-kicking balancing” Anyone know what this means?
Also, I am very excited for these Quaggan backpacks. This may make me buy something from the gem store for the first time ever. Hopefully you can wear them everywhere, not just towns. Would be awesome to see them in wvw!
