Don’t know why there’s so much hate in this thread. Colin has been exceptional in regards to communication. Really appreciated!
Is hacking common in this game? I’m coming from PlanetSide 2 a free to play game with rampant, blatant hacks everywhere. Just today hackers were spawning in assets(turrets) in the middle of the map and porting people to random places. That game is a nightmare to even contemplate playing.
I don’t think Guild Wars2 is bad at all in terms of hacking because I’ve never even noticed one in-game but I just wondering if anyone has seen a hacker in-game? I am sure they are dealt with rapidly?
So say I have my longbow and greatsword equipped. For both of them I have sigil of force applied which grants +5% damage.
So because I have two of them does that mean I have total +10% damage?
As long as you like the idea of being ranged and having a pet then I would say stick with it. We were buffed pretty significantly last patch(faster arrows, better mele pets, faster speed) so it is good now and only stands to get even better in the future.
personally, it took me a good while (few months) to find a build I really like for wvw so experiement and I am sure you will find a good one that suits your playstyle.
With rage runes you can get your crit dmg up to 65. My crit chance is around 75 with fury because I like to make sure I crit when I need 2 (that would be zerker gear). Power is needed but so is precision if you want to do dmg.
How is your survivability with that build?
This thread needs a developer in it.
I second this.

I think it’s a bad link.
I’m curious to know what gives you 50 percent crit? I think mine only has like 20 or 30.
I do fine with my ranger. Just put most of your trait points into marksmanship and skirmishing. I have 30 marks, 25 skirm, 10 wilderness survival and 5 in beastmastery.
For marksmanship I have 10 percent damage increase when endurance is full, skirmishing I have 10 percent damage increase when flanking, and I have QZ+2seconds of zepher upon pet swap. I also trait for shortened CD of QZ. I am able to burst very frequently with my LB number 5 and 2(also trait for shortened CD of LB skills). I do crazy amounts of damage that more than makes up for our weak pets. In best case scenario I am doing 25percent damage(i have sigil of force on LB for 5%damage). I also trait eagle eye so I can attack from afar. I really like the ranger and I will stick through him thick and thin.
With that said though, I really think our class is not diverse at all. there are very few viable builds compared to other classes. We just need most of our traits to be brought in line and lots and lots of bug fixes. Also wouldn’t mind if you revert the change to LB that nerfed its damage in close encounters(just seems unnecessary.)

I keep hearing these terms getting thrown around a lot but I haven’t seen them in-game. I have a full set of Sorrows Embrace armor and I chose the highest toughness for each piece. Does this mean I have knights gear? Is beserker just high power gear? What about clerics? Why aren’t they labeled as such then?
The key of getting away is the 20 second stability that comes with Rampage as one. I play a gs + sword/dagger Ranger in WvW, and never have trouble getting away from any situation… unless I screw up and forget to deselect an enemy before leaping. Yikes.
Ha, I just changed to a LB/GS build and I’ve been doing that exact thing.
I think it’s a combination of the two. For instance, Tarnished Coast has coordinated blackouts to allow other guilds to transfer to their server.
I was online to see this happen today. People were asking everyone in wvw to sign off for 30 minutes in hopes that it would decrease the server population to allow a guild to transfer over. I did log out but I actually stayed out since then, do you know if it worked?
Sure that isn’t some kind of transformation potion you can take?
well, 121k views; its more likely that the devs will look at this thread and see the number of folks that want improvements for ranger class. with a thread this big, this is clearly a major issue in gw2. i wish theyd give us a weekly update on whats going on on the devs side in terms of class balancing (what theyre working on right now, planning to do, etc). i think thered be less frustration/rage/complaints if they communicated with us a little more =/
Wow, thanks for pointing that out. That’s pretty amazing how many people are aware of the ranger and it’s need for improvement.
+1 very annoying for someone to bring your health low while your rezzing only for you to forget you can’t dodge so you spam the F key and then dodge. Small quality of life change but it would be much appreciated!
Can we get notifications for people who quote our posts? It gets kind of cumbersome keeping track of all of our posts for potential replies. Would be a lot easier if there were some kind of notification system.
Also, why aren’t there likes? Would be nice to “like” a post.
1. Lightning Reflexes acts like the Short bows Quick shot, it dosnt always move the ranger while doing the animation.
2. POV is wonky, I have 2 rangers 1 a Max height Human, the other a Min height asura; While the Human has to stand on the walls of keeps in WvW to get LoS the asura can walk up to the wall and shoot through the top of them without being targeted by single target attacks. ( AoEs still hit him tho obviously)
3. Entangle dosnt always root the targets, Many of times people walk right out of binding roots.
4. Bow rangers cannot attack Binding roots unless they have traps on utility or Barrage is off CD. Also You will get obstucted on Binding roots on your allies where you cannot free them.(With bows)
5. Sometimes in WvW if your target runs perpendicular to you your LB arrows will fire behind them which will not even trigger an obstucted or out of range.( like how a balista fires behind moving targets)
6. With Eagle Eye all of your LB skills have 1500 range yet Barrage, the number 5 skill, cannot be casted at 1500 range. You can hit a target with #1 or #2 and #3 but barrage will not be in range.( its more like 1300 range. you can easily see the difference when hitting a target at max range)
7. This is only a suggestion, The SB #1 skill should not need flanking to trigger bleeds, the warrior’s rifle #1 skill triggers bleeds from any angle and most of the time, in 1v1 situations, you will have a hard time stacking these bleeds because your opponent is running at you.
I have been playing my ranger for quite some time now and I have to say that some days are worse than others when it comes to these bugs. The quick shot and lightning reflexes seem to bug more often when the server is being congested. ( large WvW battles)
For the eagle eye bug, I am not sure of this but my hunch is that the center of the AOE circle for number 5 barrage is probably at around 1300 range while the radius of the circle might be 200.
Not sure on these numbers but you can see my point I hope. The farthest point of the circle is probably 1500.
in wvw i atack 1 target. then switch target on another person. use rapidfire, and just hit previously target. very annoyng.
and obscured and out of range (….) me off on enemy near me
Yess!! I have noticed both of these as well. It so SOOO frustrating targeting a new enemy only for my toon to attack the previous one. ARGG! So many ranger bugs I can’t take it.
Also, if I do not have a target selected my LB number 2 attack will just shoot straight into the ground and I will be locked into the entire animation without being able to cancel it. Very annoying.
I have noticed this as well. Pet swap sometimes does not grant the zepher speed. I think it has to be used in combat for it to work, which is totally unfair because the description clearly states: “grants 2 seconds of quickness upon pet swap”. Mentions nothing about having to be in combat!!!
This must be a bug or Anet is trolling us.
+1 to merge eagle eye and piercing arrows.
Although, don’t mind arrowhead idea.
We have no idea how much it will cost to transfer to servers. One of the developers said high population ones will be very expensive and low populations will be very inexpensive.
This could range from 10 gold to less than 1 gold. I doubt anyone would complain of the latter. Let’s just withhold judgement until the patch goes out.
Each time you enter combat movement speed is reduced. I’ll never understand why this game has this mechanic. It’s horrible. Whenever my Norn enters combat, is like watching a giant 500kg bag of potatos move around the map. If you have no speed blessings, of course …
I hate this mechanic with a passion. I wish they would just take it out of the game.
Some liken seeing the ANet tag in game to seeing a yeti, we’ve all heard the stories, but without the photographic negatives, thats all they are
I am how ever surprised they let you off so lightly, I’ve heard of an infamous cell in Rata Sum that brings the toughest of Charr to their knees.
Great, great analogy.
I have yet to see an Anet dev in-game with their tag being displayed but I am sure the day will come soon enough.
I think this game has the best pvp(wvw) in any MMO I’ve played ever.
The communication displayed here on the forums is outstanding. With developer forum posts, blog posts, live question streams, explanations in patch notes, etc. Really really impressive and I can’t wait to see what the future brings.
I would just wait until the next patch(28th I think?). There’s no doubt going to be some ranger improvements.
If there’s nerfs though, I seriously will cry.
I’m so glad I ran into this thread. it’s amazing.
(edited by BroScientist.9875)
Wow that is really shocking.
30/20/5/10/5(LB+GS)
30 in marksmanship for steady focus(10%damage), eagle eye(1500 range+5%LB damage),and signet of beastmaster(active signet affect).
20 in skirmishing for pets prowress(30%pet critical), and quick draw(20%quicker LB skills)
5 in wilderness survival for increased endurance regen.
10 in nature magic for natures protection
5 beastmastery for zepher upon pet swap
I use all superior signet of earth for armor(6/6)
LB has sigil of force for 5% damage(didn’t put thought into this one so help here)
GS(need help on sigil, have no idea what to use)
skills: healing spring, QZ during combat(SOH for travel), SOW for passive regen and active for when im on walls, SOS for a little bit more durability and 6 second invuln for tough situations when I need it, and elite is rampage.
I use LB primarily while switching to GS for upclose encounters and #3 swoop to get away. I like the fact that I have 1500 range so I can see in the back of groups, pick enemies off from a good distance and really helps defending on walls. I usually use SOW active for the damage increase or on walls and I need stability. 6 second invuln is really nice for those sticky situations when I need to run or revive. I also swap out SOS for guard when I am assaulting bases or defending.
I have been doing pretty well with this build but just want to open it up for critique to see where I can improve.
My goal is to do the most damage possible while still maintaining somewhat survivability.
Thanks for reading.

Okay, I have to ask: where is this combat log? This is the second time I’ve heard someone refer to it and I have no idea how to access it.
I don’t understand why there isn’t an estimate wait time for queues. At the very least tell us what position we are in!
Honestly, we are well off compared to other games. PlanetSide 2 JUST launched and the game is literally a ghost town. In the early morning there are maybe 10-20 people on a single continent that is meant to hold TWO THOUSAND players. And PS2 is free so it really says something.
Your server might have a small population but you can always transfer. They are free until the end of the month. Tarnished Coast has a pretty healthy population in my opinion.
Also, any info on new modes for WvW and/or PVP? Personally, I would love to see some sort of capture the flag mechanic in Wvw!
This is sort of a straight and forward question but are you working on queue timers for entering WvW? It is very frustrating to enter WvW and be placed in a queue while having absolutely no idea how long it will take to get in.
Have you ever thought about adding pet amour? Will pets be getting agony resistance for Fractals of the Mist? It does not seem fair that pets are supposed to do a large portion of the rangers damage but he is not allowed to have agony resistance?
What is the current state of the “dungeon finder”? How are things looking? What kind of features will it have?
Thanks!
Not up yet it seems
Weird, they have a bunch of papers and are saying things like: “oh here’s a question here.” Seems like they are taking questions from somewhere, but where?
I’m watching the live stream right now and they said they are taking questions straight from the question thread? Where is it? I don’t see it anywhere
We just need a culling slider!! I will be disappointed if you guys decide to hold back on the amount of culling to eliminate because of “minimum specs” or whatever. Just implement a culling slider for both players and NPCs and allow us to adjust according to our internet/hardware.
Edit: why is NPC culling in the game? That’s not a bandwidth issue correct? There is no excuse for culling of NPCs if you have capable hardware.
(edited by BroScientist.9875)
You might have thought Lions Arch was empty but in reality it is just culling all of the players. They are there, you just can’t see them until you get close.
Does someone want to elaborate? I know nothing about City of Heros or what the OP is talking about.
This is great news. Can’t wait to see what they mean by “new abilities and bonuses.” I’m so excited!!
How many players can one map contain?
As many as we can fit without causing too much stress on the servers. We can’t be more specific than that, but I can assure everyone that the cap is definitely split equally between all three worlds.
Ok…i’m going to preface this by saying I am a software developer.
While I understand there are somethings you can’t explain to the general public….
Are you effing kidding me? Either ..you are the worst developers in software history…and you should pay me lots of money to come show you how its done…
Or you’re avoiding the question.
I’m leaning towards avoiding the question. I imagine you have a number that the developers arrived at the cap, based on performance testing…however the generic answer you gave us means this…
Each server matchup has its own limit…66 per server on one matchup, 166 per server on another etc. Since you’re not being specific what so ever.
It might be different per map…some could have 50 some could have 100? What kind of BS is this? Unless your developers learned in kindergarten how to develop software I’m positive you can come up with a better explanation. If you think its beyond us..I promise its not.
Wow, this is a good response. Made me look at the developers response in a completely different way. I agree, we need a solid answer on this because you’ve brought up an extremely good point.
How about estimated wait times for queues? It’s so frustrating to click on wvw and be put in a queue without having any idea how long you will have to wait. Please tell me you guys are working on this.
I disagree with CRrabbit. In my opinion, a 0/0/30/10/30 build is currently one of our strongest, if not the strongest, builds. Focus on toughness, healing power, and power. You will have much, much more survivability than if you were to have a more damage orientated build, while your damage will almost be the same, assuming you will be able to micromanage your main sources of DPS, which will be your pets, properly.
Greatsword is definately a great secondary weapon, but not a main weapon. As a main weapon, anything ranged will serve you well. I’m personally a fan of axe/dagger, but axe/torch and axe/warhorn are also decent choices. I’m less a fan of the shortbow, and even less of the longbow, but feel free to try them out anyway.
That’s interesting. I am running a 30/0/30/10/0. I would put that 30 into beast-mastery but those are just too many useful traits in the marksmanship skill tree: namely eagle eye and active signets also affect you. I am also running longbow/short-bow though. I like to focus as a support member in zergs able to snipe others a from a fair distance away, and also defending on top of walls.
I just have one more suggestion.
5) I think the amount of points you get for holding bases should increase the longer amount of time you hold them. For example: For every 15 minute click you’ve held a certain base, that base will reward you +5 points. So say a base rewards 100 points every 15 minutes, but you’ve held it for 10 clicks so far; the next click would reward 150 points. I also think this system should be dynamic. So bases that are closer to your spawn will reward much less, or even no additional points the longer they are held. So for example, your nearest 2 bases from spawn will reward +2 points every click they are held but bases that are in the middle of the map will reward +20. Going even further, bases that are near your enemies spawn will reward +30 for every click they are held. See where I am going with this?
This would encourage more to stay behind, defend and upgrade bases after they have been captured. It will also discourage quick capping for points and then immediately abandoning said base for another one.
In wvw, is it possible to show the supply lines? Like which supply camps dolyaks deliver to which bases? And how do squads work? I tried joining one but as far as I can tell, the only noticeable difference is I now have access to the squad chat channel, which no one seemed to be using anyway. Any purpose for squads other than that? Thanks.
I was playing w3 the other day and I got a party request from someone on an enemy server. I accepted and we chatted a bit but I was wondering how do you go about doing this?
Also, I realized that by accepting their request, I allowed them to see exactly where I was on the map, and vice versa. I was in a zerg that was about to hit a supply camp, but since they knew where I was on the map, they intercepted us and successfully defended the camp. I realize I was being traitorous for a few minutes but is there anything preventing this? It seems like a major flaw in the system. If I were a commander and unknowingly had a few members of my zerg partied up with the enemy, it would give away major strategical decisions.
Is partying up with the enemy a bug?
So you’re suggestion is to make it auto-roll for you upon large falls? If you do it manually is there any damage reduction? I’m against making it auto, but if there isn’t a slight damage reduction(read:10% or so) if you time a roll upon landing, I think there should be.
Alt+Clicking on your mini map or world map will set a personal waypoint
Wow, that’s great. I had no idea.
Well, new suggestion, make it more noticeable that the user can do these things. I also didn’t find out that you could ping on the mini-map until I was already hundreds of hours into the game.
I am how ever surprised they let you off so lightly, I’ve heard of an infamous cell in Rata Sum that brings the toughest of Charr to their knees.
