Have you seen the Magitech armors? There are also a few pistols and rifles that look futuristic. There are some futuristic looking skins (albeit very few).
It’s a bug. Basically when exiting combat, you don’t always exit combat speed (so you continue running slowly as if you were still in combat). A good temporary fix is to log out (to the character select screen) and log back in (which will fix it until the next time it happens).
I played via a free to play account for a good three months. Hands down the best trail/free to play mode I have ever tried.
Although you are limited in some aspects; all of your achievements, collections etc carry over after upgrading.
I myself was worried about the whole gem shop and the potential of the game switching to a p2w format. Fortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Although there are a few things that could be improved with the HoT expansion All in all I am a very happy customer.
That being said one thing I do not look forward to is paying for further expansions. 60 dollars is a lot of money. I can only imagine how angry the player base was when it was released to free to play, considering they forked out 60 dollars for the initial game which they eventually gave away for free.
so we are looking at 120 dollars for some players which is insane! absolutely insane.
And ls2 is not even factored into this price.Future expansions if set at the same price seem a bit absurd. I’m willing to fork out 20 dollars. That seems fair in my book. But with the glitchy content and the unfinished feel in HoT as well as the scrapping of legendarys why would I EVER pay $60 again.
Don’t get me wrong I probably will because its a great game but honestly this is high, very high. Then we hear of teams being dismantled and reworked into areas. Why do I care? Its your job its not my fault you goofed, fix it find a solution and stop making excuses.
to sum it up.
Its a fun game
But with serious issues. Pay wisely
As a player who paid the full $60 for both the original game and the expansion, I personally feel I have gotten more than my money’s worth for the game. With all the permanent content, Living Story, and festivals, I feel my money was well spent. I am not the least bit bitter about the core game becoming available as an endless F2P trial. In fact, I actually think it’s a really good idea and will encourage people to try it out (after which, I think they will decide they want to try the paid content and buy the expansion).
Once all the worlds have been released, I would love to see a title for getting all the tribulation mode achievements. However, I think the title should require a few more achievements than are currently available in tribulation mode. Tough Customer and Forbidden Honey/Woodpecker are not easy achievements, but those alone do not merit a title.
Ideas for more tribulation mode achievements:
- Find all hidden rooms
- Open all chests (requiring keys)
- Do all zones without using checkpoints (balloon-cloud checkpoints)
- Use the shortcuts (when possible, like the Shortcut Worm)
I personally would love to see another expansion. Living Story is fun and I tend to enjoy it when they bring it out, but I also want the amount of permanent content to grow over time. I think the way they’re doing it now is good . . . I like a combination of both.
OMG, this just made my month! Thank you for bringing it back, Anet dev team!
Nothing can save underwater combat since you can not dodge there.
Yeah you can, there’s just no special animation for it (you just swim more quickly in the direction of the dodge).
(edited by Bron.9647)
You can’t go wrong with either, they all have their strengths and are always useful. Each has unique support mechanics and good damage. Just choose the one which pleases you with mechanics. In PvP Revenant > Guardian > Warrior.
ArenaNet is always balancing the classes and as such which class is most powerful and by how much does tend to change a bit. However, I do agree that you can’t go wrong, but they’re each a little different, so just pick the one you enjoy most.
(edited by Bron.9647)
I agree that not every weapon should work underwater, such as the hammer, mace, pistol, rifle, etc. However, there are a few that might be able to work underwater, such as the dagger, scepter, focus, etc. And there might be possibilities for new weapon types that are exclusively for use underwater.
I was not aware the ascended recipes are available on the trading post, which does make that part not so bad. However, according to the wiki, the only exotic breathers are only obtainable via Wintersday Gifts. As for rare breathers, the only rare breathers are the Benthic ones (only available with Soldier’s stats), which are currently available for a few gold each on the trading post. The only level 80 karma breathers are fine and masterwork, available from Gavbeorn, in Orr (and only come with one set of stats [which is different for each armor weight]).
I personally think underwater combat is a very neat aspect of Guild Wars 2. However, it needs to be greatly improved and there are a lot of problems with it. I have recently heard a rumor that it is going to be phased out and I really hope not, because I think many of the underwater areas are well done and intriguing.
Reasons to keep underwater combat:
1. There is a lot of content underwater and in areas only accessible by swimming (islands). If underwater combat were removed, the underwater areas would become very boring, because there would be very little to do there. And removing swimming altogether would make these areas inaccessible.
2. Underwater combat is an improvement over only land combat in Guild Wars 1.
Things wrong with underwater combat:
1. About half of the skills and even some traits don’t work underwater.
2. Very few weapons to choose from for underwater combat.
3. Getting a good quality breather (above masterwork) is very difficult to say the least. And even the masterwork level 80 breather only has one type of stats (no variety to choose from).
Reasons why players probably don’t like underwater combat:
1. Players feel weaker underwater than on land. This is because of the lower quality breathers, the fact that they are limited to certain skills that may not work well with their build, and the fact that some of their traits suddenly don’t work when they go underwater (or merely become pointless because the skills they reference are not usable underwater).
2. Players feel constrained by a smaller variety of good builds for underwater combat. This is because of the lack of usable skills and traits for underwater combat and the fact that each class only has one or two weapons for underwater combat.
Suggestions for fixing underwater combat:
1. Add more breathers of all qualities (common, fine, masterwork, rare, and exotic [and make them as easily accessible as any other kind of equipment]; make ascended breathers accessible to people other than fractal enthusiasts).
2. Make more skills available for underwater combat and maybe even add a few for underwater combat only.
3. Add more weapons for use in underwater combat (including one-hand and off-hand weapons).
4. Incorporate underwater combat more into traits.
+1
I’ve been wanting to see Caladbolg as a player weapon for a while now. I also like the idea of making it just as difficult to acquire as Volcanus, Foefire’s Essence, and other such weapons.
As the previous poster suggested, it could be named something else…it doesn’t have to be the original (a lesser version just as Fiery Dragon Swords are lesser versions of Magdaer and Sohothin).
I say hide those ears! They’re an eyesore when they clip through the helm like that. Or at least give us the option to toggle them on and off when wearing head armor.
It just doesn’t look right with the ears popping out of the helmet. I got the Hellfire helmet for my Asuran elementalist a short while ago and while I like the helmet, I would like it a whole lot better without the ears popping out the side of the helmet.

Tengu, hands down. I would probably also make a Largos, if I could.
But please no cliche races like dwarves or elves. And no hostile races, please…I don’t want PvE turning into WvW. If people want to fight other players, they can join WvW, keep the two separate, please.
(edited by Bron.9647)
…I have no words for this
A friend made a Charr warrior and named it Ferocious And Fuzzy.
What’s far more interesting: Every Elderdragon has his own minions. The minions of the Jungle Dragon could be… well, Sylvari?
Try the Nightmare Court…if you read the dialogue of Twilight Arbor, story mode, you’ll notice she mentions a “great darkness”. Guild Wars 2 Wiki: Twilight Arbor – Story
Caithe: Faolain is firstborn like me. She’s powerful and dangerous, but she wasn’t always that way.
Caithe: "When our race was new, we travelled together, her and I. We became close.
Caithe: We found a great darkness. I pulled back from it. Faolain embraced it.
Personally, I believe this “great darkness” is referring to Mordremoth or one of his champions, just like what happened to Svanir in Guild Wars 1, when he embraced the power of Jormag’s champion. I believe that the Nightmare Court are embracing Mordremoth just like the Sons of Svanir are embracing Jormag. However, I don’t think the Nightmare Court realize the source of their malice, but it does corrupt them just the same.
(edited by Bron.9647)
For example things have to be more grindy. And you can’t have bones showing, so every single item or zone in the game that has bones in it has to be redesigned.
There goes Orr and the Godskull weapons. They’ll love ascended crafting though.
Personally, I think the General Discussion forum is too diverse with too many ongoing discussions to sort through. I know there used to be a Lore forum, Dynamic Events forum, and a Personal Story Forum. Maybe these could all be combined along with general PvE in a PvE Discussion forum.
Why bother at this point as there would still be grandfathered in commander that have their tags?
That is exactly why I suggested refunding all commander tags upon implementing this. That way all commanders would lose their tags and get their money and Badges of Honor back. They could of course buy a PvE commander tag after getting enough commander tokens.
Currently, the commander tag doesn’t mean anything except that the person with said tag knows how to make money. I’ve noticed that the commander tag sometimes comes in pretty handy in PvE. Also, there are people who only like to do WvW and those who only like to do PvE or people who play one character in WvW and another in PvE.
So my suggestion is that the commander tag be split into a PvE version and a WvW version, with separate requirements for buying the PvE version and the WvW version. Of course, commanders should only be able to display PvE commander tags in PvE and should only be able to display WvW commander tags in WvW. I also suggest that all commander tags be refunded when this change is implemented so that every single commander is held to the same standard. If you have any comments regarding the PvE commander tag, please see my Add PvE Requirement for PvE Commander Tag thread.
WvW Commander Tag:
If ArenaNet were to require commanders to have some level of WvW rank, then we could actually be sure that the commanders in WvW know a decent amount about WvW, instead of just thinking “that person must have a lot of money.” To buy a WvW commander tag, the person would need to have achieved a fairly decent WvW rank, thus requiring them to have played WvW a fair amount. Right now, a person can just buy a commander tag without ever having set foot in WvW prior to that (all they would need to do is buy a bunch of gems and sell them for gold or sit in Lion’s Arch flipping items on the Trading post).
Currently, the commander tag doesn’t mean anything except that the person with said tag knows how to make money. I’ve noticed that the commander tag sometimes comes in pretty handy in PvE. Also, there are some people who only like to do WvW and those who only like to do PvE or people who play one character in WvW and another in PvE.
So my suggestion is that the commander tag be split into a PvE version and a WvW version, with separate requirements for buying the PvE version and the WvW version. Of course, commanders should only be able to display PvE commander tags in PvE and should only be able to display WvW commander tags in WvW. I also suggest that all commander tags be refunded when this change is implemented so that all commanders are held to the same standard. If you have any comments regarding the WvW commander tag, please see my Add WvW Rank Requirement to WvW Commander Tag thread.
PvE Commander Tag:
Clearly, we need some way to ensure commanders actually know what they’re doing in PvE. I think it’s actually very possible to raise the quality of the average commander if you set some kind of requirement they have to meet in order to buy their commander tag. I suggest that world events chests (such as from Frozen Maw, Claw of Jormag, Tequatl the Sunless, and orrian temple events) should have a chance of a dropping a “commander token” which would be required to buy a PvE commander tag. To buy a PvE commander tag, the player would need a certain amount of these commander tokens, in addition to 50 gold and maybe some laurels (as the PvE equivalent to Badges of Honor). Since the tag is being split in two, each tag then has half the functionality so theoretically, it should also have half the cost. The chance of getting a commander token from a world event chest should also be higher for more difficult world events than for easier world events (Frozen Maw as opposed to the Temple of Balthazar, for instance). This would mean that we could be sure PvE commanders actually know how to do and have participated in world events (the situation in which commander tags are usually displayed in PvE). This would clearly raise the bar and improve the quality of the average commander in PvE.
The limited ability to store only one of each armor and weapon style is a bit frustrating. I personally have more than one of some PvP armors and weapons and I would like to store them somewhere other than my bank until I decide what character to put them on and/or get a full armor set to put on a character (so that character’s armor doesn’t look mismatched until I get a full set of something). Not to mention I hate to throw away any of the PvP armor or weapons I have, in case I decide that I like the same look on more than one character.
So, my suggestion is to allow us to store more than one of each armor and weapon skin in the PvP locker, in other words, allow us to stack them within the PvP locker. Since they seem to be stored like collectibles, I don’t know why we can’t just have them stack to 250 or something (granted nobody is ever going to get 250 of the the same skin, but at least they wouldn’t have to worry about running out of space).
Post #29173 regarding dyes not being account bound is surely the one that will change it all.
All hail post #29173!
^
Plus if that ever happened. “OMG I FOUND ABYSS DYE ON THIS CHAR AND I HAVE IT ALREADY ON MY ACCOUNT, I SELL IT AND I AM RICH” /Opens Trading posts, tries to sell: “Abyss Dye: Higher buyer 23s. Lowest seller: 25.4 s.” / PokerfacegiveusbacksoulbounddyesalreadyANET
This is why if this were to happen, dyes would most likely start dropping a lot less.
Besides, people running dungeons and such only want “experienced” dungeon folks and generally don’t want anyone but elite players on their team. That type of mentality gets old. We’re not all on the same game level. Not everyone has 3 legendary weapons or runs dungeons. Some of us just enjoy the PVE and exploring the world. Bring back our heros please…even if it is just one or two. Thanks.
This is only the case for some people (I personally hate those kinds of groups). Try putting “casual” or “no speed run” in the LFG description. Also, I’d suggest not doing Arah explorable mode, it was designed for players who know exactly what they’re doing (which is why I don’t really do that dungeon much).
What you do, DO NOT PLAY THE RANGER CLASS.. You will live to regret it,.
Don’t listen to this guy. Ranger is one of my favorite classes.
As for Lion’s Arch (LA) on the 14th, it’s part of the living story. Basically, all hell is breaking loose in LA on the 14th and the city is going to take some serious damage and there’s most likely going to be a massive battle or a “run for your life” kind of gauntlet. There’s a video showcasing the living story event at Prepare for the Escape from Lion’s Arch! which can also be found in the news section on the main page of the Guild Wars 2 site.
[EDIT] I just realized, it’s not February 14th, it’s February 18th (I assumed the previous poster knew his dates, which I apparently don’t know either). Escape from Lion’s Arch starts on February 18th.
(edited by Bron.9647)
If dyes were account bound. Then you wouldn’t be able to sell them on the TP and would have to rely on RNG to get the one you want.
The OP means that they would be available to all characters upon use, not that the item would be account-bound before use.
And for those of us who like our characters to be separated from each other, to individually progress on their own, what would we get out if it?
So, you’re saying you want less options? There’s no reason you would have to use the same colors on different characters…just because you have a dye doesn’t mean you have to use it.
When you sell stuff on the trading post, make sure not to pick the “sell to the highest bidder” option, but match the price of the lowest seller (the second option). It will usually get you more money, though you’ll have to wait for a while for the item to be actually sold (depending on the item it could be sold in a few minutes or it might take a few days – sometimes it won’t get sold at all, then you can take it off the TP after a while and either try selling again for a lower price, or salvage it).
I find this to be true for some things but not others, it mostly depends on the item. Crafting materials and salvage items tend to sell almost every time you “Match lowest seller,” however equipment is a bit tougher to sell when you don’t “Meet highest bidder.” As for blues (fine) and greens (masterwork), you can also salvage them for luck, which will increase your magic find, which improves the quality of your drops (you’ll be more likely to get rare and exotic loot with a high magic find). I also suggest you harvest everything you come across if you want some extra money (crafting materials sell pretty well; I do this myself). However, crafting materials are also obviously required for crafting, so whether you want some extra money or the ability to craft is entirely up to you (I personally only sell extra crafting materials that won’t fit in my collections).
As someone else said earlier, just enjoy yourself and don’t race to max level, there is so much to enjoy in this game (it’s not all just endgame).
Please never add this. For one thing, the open world was designed to be solo-able, it doesn’t need heroes (adding them to the open world would just make you need them because then it would be expected). As for dungeons, try the LFG tool . . . you may not have played GW1, but when they added the ability to have 7 heroes at a time, nobody bothered grouping up (it became a solo game whether people wanted it or not).
Simply put, heroes would ruin the game. Please never ever add them, GW2 is good the way it is!
@Ralron: That’s why the idea of a PvE tag came up, which I personally think is an excellent idea. This way there would be one requirement for having a commander tag in WvW and a different requirement in PvE.
@Alukah:
Regarding the PvE requirement, the idea was to have a WvW commander tag and a PvE commander tag (two separate commander tags, one exclusively for PvE and one exclusively for WvW). Although, now that I think about it the cost should probably be reduced a bit, since the functionality would also be reduced (because the tag would only be displayable in WvW or PvE, depending on what kind of tag it is). However, there should be nothing preventing a player from having both tags on the same char. Granted they could also do it the way you’re suggesting with different requirements on activating it depending on if the player is in WvW or PvE. However, I think it might be better as two separate tags, since a lot of people tend to play one profession in WvW and another profession in PvE. (and a lot of people play only PvE or only WvW)
PS – I still say these commander tags should be account bound, not character bound, but I’m going off the assumption that they won’t be account bound.
(edited by Bron.9647)
This is completely absurd. They need to fix this ASAP. Illusions are the core mechanic for mesmers . . . this would be like causing a ranger’s pet to automatically go passive when feared.
@ronpierce: It sounds like that’s a bug and should also be fixed ASAP.
If they where to do this, then it would really need to be retro active. If you already have a tag, you should not be able to activate it again until you reach rank 30.
That’s exactly why I suggested simultaneously refunding all commander tags. That way it would be retroactive in that you would need WvW rank 30 to display the tag (because you wouldn’t have it otherwise). However, people that have already bought a commander tag but do not have rank 30 yet would not be losing out on 100 gold. In other words, I completely agree.
In regards to the Gift of Battle requiring WvW rank 30, if you have a comment please take it to the Rank 30 WvW Required for Gift of Battle Grind thread.
Back on topic:
I just found out that rank 30 is not max rank in WvW (never really looked into WvW rank). In that case, I’m not sure rank 30 would be the best requirement (it might be, but maybe something higher might be better too). In any case, I think some level of WvW rank should definitely be a requirement to obtain a commander tag (at least for WvW).
@ Neural: I think you have a good point about Commander tags in PvE. Commander tags are definitely useful in PvE as well (like for Orr temple events and other large world events). Maybe the addition of a PvE Commander tag might be good (thus keeping WvW Commander tags exclusively in WvW and PvE Commander tags exclusively in PvE). Though, I’m not sure what the requirement should be . . . I was thinking maybe a certain amount of AP, but AP can also be acquired in PvP and WvW (you don’t have to do anything in PvE to get AP), which would just lead to the same problem we currently have in WvW with commanders.
They did it for the Gift of Battle, so they can clearly do it for the Commander tag as well. If they did this the Commander tag would actually come to mean something. Right now, a Commander tag does not mean that the player wielding the tag knows anything at all of WvW, but instead only means that the player with said tag knows how to make money. If they were to add a WvW rank requirement for the acquisition of Commander tags, you could actually assume that the player knows at least a decent amount about WvW. Furthermore, I think they should simultaneously refund all Commander tags (people can still buy them back, if they have WvW rank 30), essentially resetting all the commanders so that everyone starts on equal footing and so that we know every single commander is held to the same standards.
I think this would improve the quality of the average commander in WvW.
[EDIT on 2/6/14] A PvE commander tag has also been suggested (see further down in the thread) with different requirements for the PvE commander tag, of course. I think this would be a great idea. Especially if they were made separate tags, with different requirements on each (and the ability to get both, obviously).
[EDIT] PS – Commander tags should also be made account-bound rather than soul-bound, preferably at the same time.
[EDIT]In regards to the Gift of Battle requiring WvW rank 30, if you have a comment please take it to the Rank 30 WvW Required for Gift of Battle Grind thread.

It will be like the other Black Lion skins, 1 ticket during the release period, then graduating up to 3, 5, 7 tickets as time goes on.
I never did understand why they started doing that. Why should the old weapons be harder to get than the new ones? Getting even one Black Lion Ticket is hard enough as it is, I can’t see anyone ever catching up to the cost for old skins.
I would have to agree, if they weren’t giving out the other skins at regular intervals. First time through you get the Hellfire skins and second time through you get Radiant skins or vice versa. It seems fair to me. Granted, I have to admit, I would have preferred to get a whole armor set first before being given the option to get the other armor set, too. However, I can’t say I’m disappointed with the way they did things, because it’s fairly reasonable.
NO!!! One of the best parts about this game is the lack of a subscription fee. I don’t buy many gemstore items as it is and I already paid for this game. I don’t want to have to pay extra money just to play. If you want a game with subscription fees, there are tons of other games you can play. For the rest of us that want a game like Guild Wars 2, I think Guild Wars 2 fills that role very well and excels at it.
Oh, did I mention I don’t want subscription fees?!?!?! Let me just state it again to make sure, I don’t want to continue paying for a game I’ve already bought!
- do events (good way to gain exp)
- try crafting (can gain 10+ levels per crafting discipline, but expensive)
- harvest everything in sight and sell it on the trading post (to make money)
- try out the champion trains (for money and for stuff to salvage for luck)
And most important, have fun.
PS – That’s all I can think of right now, but I’m pretty sure there are other good pieces of advice.
Quarterstaff: warrior, ranger, guardian, mesmer (and maybe elementalist and thief)
Whip: warrior, ranger, mesmer (and maybe guardian and thief)
Land Spear: warrior, ranger, mesmer, guardian
I suggest you try them all. Different people like different classes. For instance, I’ve got friends that really enjoy mesmer, but I’m not really a fan of it. That is except when I take people through jumping puzzles…the portal skill comes in very handy to pick people back up.
Personally, I like guardian, ranger and elementalist (in addition to warrior). And I also do only PvE (also not a fan of PvP).
CDI stands for Collaborative Development Initiative, specifically collaboration between the developers and the forum community.
Well, now I feel a bit stupid…though, I never said the developers couldn’t join in :P (I’ll put “Suggestion” in the title from now on, instead).
As for destroyer armor looking like Hellfire armor, it might (it would probably look similar in any case), but it is indeed incomplete (there are only gloves, shoulders, and helm right now). That doesn’t mean they can’t add corrupted armor, though. Besides, there’s no reason they can’t add a different twist to destroyer armor. They could probably do just about anything to do with fire and lava…and maybe obsidian and ash (since they also have to do with lava and volcanoes).
Usually I don’t do any and just play the game. But occasionally I will run the Queensdale champ train if I need champions for my monthly or just want to do something mindless. I don’t know the order or location of champs in Frostgorge Sound and didn’t even know there was one in Cursed Shore or Southsun Cove, so I never do those champ trains.
[EDIT] I’m pretty sure there is also a champ train in Kessex Hills, or at least there was one during the toxic tower LS.

Originally karma armor was salvageable, but they had problems with people buying them and salvaging for the materials, so they made them not salvageable. Anyway, there’s an Upgrade Extractor available in the gem store, which should allow you to remove the runes. As for transmuting, if you transmute the armor with a normal piece of armor (obtained as a drop), the resulting piece of armor is then salvageable. Or you could use Transmutation Crystals to transmute your current armor looks and rune onto a set of level 80 armor.

There already player housing just not too many ppl like the fact that its related to your activates in game and not a chose of how they look. As for Guild halls they will come but i do not think a lot of pply will be happy with them because they are more then likely going to have a lot to do with GM so if your guild is a one person guild your not getting a guild hall or at least a very good one and if the guild is inactive they will not get much too.
That is the “Home Instance”, not player housing as most people think of it. I think what people are wanting is an actual house (maybe within the Home Instance), maybe with the ability to design it and display trophies, kind of like the Hall of Monuments in Guild Wars 1.
As for Guild Halls, they are on ArenaNet’s “To Do List”, but are not currently being worked on and they have not mentioned whether they will be released anytime soon. That being said, I would also like to see guild halls added to the game at some point.
Why do you put CDI at these things?
Because it’s a suggestion for an addition to the game.
Off the Trading Post, yes (they are tradeable). But not anywhere else, because Wintersday is over.
We already have the weapons, why not add some armor to go with them? They could be craftable, just like the weapons are.
Simply put, I think some branded weapons and armor would look pretty neat. I would definitely use some branded weapons. Maybe they could be created by crafting like how the destroyer and corrupted weapons are.
Ah, sorry, I of course mean the Queens Speech.
I am not talking about people not wanting to get spoiled (and lets be honest, people will be spoiled even if they don’t look on the page), but rather ArenaNet not wanting to spoil the main part of the release.
If that’s the case, I hope they at least give us the release notes when they release it, because I want to know what’s in the update. If they don’t give us any release notes, we will kind of have to figure it out on our own and will likely miss a few things. Besides, even if that is the case, they could still release permanent update notes and update those notes, upon release, to include the living story stuff. I like seeing what they’re adding to the game.
However, now that I think on it, I can think of one reason they might not even give us release notes on the permanent stuff…if the living story is going to permanently change the world, then as lordkrall said, they might not want to “spoil the main part of the release.” Maybe this is exactly why they haven’t put release notes up yet (after all, they have said that the finale will permanently change the face of Tyria). If this is the case, I can understand why they only have a video that doesn’t tell us much, but I still hope they put up release notes upon release.
