This seems like a useful system to have. In-game notes could be very useful.
Does anyone have any suggestions for jumping puzzles in Rata Sum or any other town?
You can level by crafting, doing events, the champion train, and maybe other things. Yes, WvW is still a zergfest. They have however added a lot of new stuff since a year ago. There is a new dungeon (Fractals of the Mists), a new area (Southsun Cove), a new tier of weapons, armor, jewelry, and back pieces (ascended gear), a bunch of new exotic skins, various new back piece items, 3 new jumping puzzles (“Not So Secret”, “Skipping Stones”, and “Under New Management”), at least 2 new PvP maps (don’t know much about PvP though), a new healing skill for each class (in addition to a new healing skill that all classes can use), and a new LFG (Looking For Group) tool much like the party window from Guild Wars 1 (very useful).
I think the quarterstaff could be a great new weapon for Guild Wars 2 and I’m wondering what other people think of this idea. This weapon could be usable by warrior, guardian, and ranger, as well as maybe elementalist and mesmer. I’m personally thinking this could be a good defensive melee weapon, but it might have some good offensive capabilities, too. Anyone who has any suggestions regarding this, please mention them.
Get to level 80 and start crafting as soon as possible. The gear grind train has already left the station, it stops for no one, and so you’re going to have to work hard to catch up.
A good way to get crafting materials as you level is to do the Queensdale Champ train. It’s also good for keeping your weapons and armor pretty much up to level.
Thief is a good profession to start as medium armor uses leather, which is — at the moment — relatively inexpensive on the Trading Post (light armor’s crafting materials are currently quite expensive).
The gear grind only starts once you start trying to get the top tier of armor and weapons. As long as you don’t worry about ascended gear or legendary weapons, you’ll be just fine. You can get by just fine with fine (blue) and masterwork (green) equipment until level 80. Even at level 80 you’ll be just fine with masterwork gear (but rare is better and exotic is even better).
While the champion train is a good way to get loot, it is EXTREMELY repetitive (it consists of a cycle of about 5 champions that repeats every 5 minutes) and is such a small sampling of what the game has to offer. My suggestion would be to explore everything and as Morrigan so eloquently put it “take your time and smell the roses and poke your head into any interesting holes.” This game has so much more to offer than just grinding and you can get equipment and experience just fine by playing the game normally. You’ll be more likely to get level appropriate equipment if you explore level appropriate areas, but you can still get good equipment from lower level areas too (just not as fast).
As far as buying equipment goes, you shouldn’t need to worry about it if you just keep an eye out for level appropriate equipment while playing and if you do buy equipment, one armor class is not really much more or less expensive than any other armor class (and should not really be a reason to choose one class over another).
Welcome to Guild Wars 2! I hope you enjoy the game as much as I have for the past year and a half.

Instead of having all suggestions in one area, ANet now wants the suggestions to be put in the appropriate section and in this section if ther is not a specific section for the suggestion.
I actually do kind of like the idea of putting suggestions in forums that relate to those suggestions. However, if the suggestion is about something which has no appropriate sub-forum, like PvE, then it can only be posted in the “Guild Wars 2 Discussion” forum and get buried under a ton of other threads. Reading the “Guild Wars 2 Discussion” forum is like sifting through avalanche debris, IMO. There are actually 4 and a half pages of threads in the “Guild Wars 2 Discussion” forum that have replies only 1 day old (I checked). That is a ton of threads with extremely recent posts and then there are even more when you also consider the ones that have posts only 2 or 3 days old.
Thanks, I was wondering the same thing. I keep seeing CDI mentioned in the forums and until now, I had no idea what that meant.
If forums are changing then it’d be nice to have a PvE section. It fills odd to have PvP, WvW but no PvE which is just mixed in general GW2 and not completely covered : no fractal and no open world sections…
This is so true. The “Guild Wars 2 Discussion” forum is so huge, things are bound to get lost in here. And I don’t really want to sift through all the random threads to find ones on PvE (which is what I’m really interested in).
I was doing map completion of Rata Sum today with a friend of mine and I noticed there are a couple good places in Rata Sum to have jumping puzzles. First and foremost, the bowels of Rata Sum would be a great place for a jumping puzzle, maybe starting at the vista in the middle of the bottom level. I also think a jumping puzzle around the outside of Rata Sum would be pretty cool, too (on the edges/slopes of the Rata Sum cube). Or there could also be a jumping puzzle that utilizes both of those areas of Rata Sum.
NOTE: Attached picture is of the bowels of Rata Sum (I jumped down to get a better look).
It’s been moved to the Archive Forum section for some reason, so now nobody can post anything more in there. Please bring it back. That forum is the only reason I ever post here. I’ve also noticed that a lot of the suggestions made in that forum end up getting implemented in the game, so clearly ArenaNet was benefiting from it by getting good ideas.

More variety would be awesome!
The “Dryad Bow” was added to Guild Wars 1 as a result of a Design-A-Weapon contest in 2007. Apparently, they really liked the skin because they added it to Guild Wars 2 as the Hall of Monuments weapon “Living Shortbow.”
EDIT:
And that’s not all…
“Frog Scepter” (GW1 scepter; 2007 Design-a-Weapon contest winner) became “Anura” (GW2 scepter)
“Straw Effigy” (GW1 focus; 2005 Design-a-Weapon contest winner) became “Mojo” (GW2 focus)
“Wayward Wand” (GW1 scepter; 2005 Design-a-Weapon contest winner) was added to the game as another Hall of Monuments weapon: “Wayward Wand”

As far as aerial mounts go, they would ruin WvW. Why go through the trouble of building a ram or catapult to break down a door or wall when you can just fly right in? There’s a reason keeps and castles were effective in the middle ages…because there were no airplanes or helicopters.
Well, we could have people type out the whole name for the guild. Or maybe when you type /g or /guild you’re given a list of guilds to choose from. Personally, I think trying to remember which guild is G1, G2, G3, etc. would be more difficult than remember the name or tag of the guild.
As for easier to program, it’s not that much more difficult to program something like this. All it requires is storing the name in a variable and then searching the names of the guilds the person is in (which they probably already have stored together for when you bring up your guild window) to find the reference to that guild.
4 dungeons run
6 meta bosses completedArmor – 60
Weapons – 89
Total drops – 149Silk Scrap – 43
Gossamer Scrap – 8
Elder Wood Log – 58
Ancient Wood Logs – 5
Thick Leather Section – 33
Hardened Leather Section – 2
Mithril Ore – 40
Orichalcum Ore – 9Essence of Luck (fine 10) – 108
Essence of Luck (masterwork 50) – 22
Essence of Luck (rare 100) – 2
Uvatha, you say that at 43 silk scraps a day, you can easily accumulate a lot of silk. However, if you look at the amount of mithril ore you got, it’s very close to the amount of silk scraps you got and you also got more elder wood logs than you did silk scraps. So, by your reasoning, you should also have excess mithril ore and elder wood logs. If you get about the same amount of silk scraps as you do elder wood logs and mithril ore, then the recipes should be similar as well, right?
+1 to whips, great axes, and spears on land.
Quarterstaves would also be a neat weapon, and could be usable by warrior, guardian, ranger, and mesmer.
@Donari Why not have the guild tag be used instead of G1, G2, G3, etc? To change which guild you’re posting in you could type /guild guild-tag or /g guild-tag.

Please do not bring back heroes! I was glad when they announced that there would be no heroes in Guild Wars 2. Heroes were annoying in Guild Wars 1, because more often than not they would run off and attack something that you didn’t want to attack. ArenaNet would also have to re-balance the difficulty of the game, since you would be more powerful with constant allies.
Heroes also made it easier for people to ignore other players and do everything solo, thus turning Guild Wars 1 into more of a single player game than a multi-player game and creating more of an anti-social environment. I remember when they made it so you could have 7 heroes, everyone stopped trying to find other people to play with and the game became more lonely. Dungeon running would become the same way if this were implemented and dungeons aren’t meant to be run solo.

I like how every race can be every class and no race has any real advantages over other races.
[EDIT] I also am not fond of being expected to play differently just because of the race I chose, which I would be since each race would have new abilities that other players and ArenaNet would then expect you to utilize.

+1 to this all the way!
Right now, almost nobody goes to Southsun Cove. They did a great job breathing life into the area when they had the Consortium build a resort there, but that Living World event is now over and the place has basically become deserted. The only reason people ever go there is for the passiflora and the jumping puzzles. The problem with the zone is that the group events are more like zerg events and to survive half the island you need to go with at least a small group (2 or 3) or the veteran karka are going to kick your butt. Another big problem is the crazed karka event in the middle of the zone at the town-like area that pretty much cuts the island in half when it’s up (the only way to get around it is to go along the edges of the zone; there’s no way you can ever get through there alive). Also, most of the waypoints are usually contested and most of the time there’s only 2 waypoints you can use.
I would love to see this zone get more attention and maybe a transition from Sparkfly Fen. Unfortunately, right now Southsun Cove is quite a bit tougher than even Orr and thus is quite inhospitable to solo players.

The more races the better, but honestly, I’d rather see the Tengu as a playable race, first.
I think Aegis should be activated like Dodge, and not passive, for one. (Sorry guards)
For another, we should have the ability to change its appearance and Color. It’s a tell for other players when Block is up. So its a key part of the game for WvW/PvP. If you are able to hide it, that makes players waste skills that would otherwise be blocked. Can’t have that.
Then make this just a PvE thing. It wouldn’t be too hard to make the toggle only work for PvE.
I’m up for any way to turn these things into something more useful. I never use the yellow transmutation stones myself, but I would love a way to get the blue transmutation crystals. I have a ton of yellow transmutation stones that I never use. As someone said earlier, nobody cares what I look like from level 1-79 (including myself); it’s the long-term, level 80 armor that I want to look good. When leveling up, you have to upgrade your armor so often, there’s no point in transmuting a skin onto a piece of armor that you’re just going to replace in a few days, anyway.
We already have destroyer and corrupted weapons, why not branded? But don’t stop there . . . armors for each of those would be nice too. I also think a set of undead looking weapons would be neat.
Darkhaven is a US server
PS – I should be able to be there this Saturday, I’ll see you guys there.

What time zone? Also, are you on a US world or a EU world? (can’t guest between US and EU, unfortunately)
I’m on Henge of Denravi (US world) and I’m in PST (Pacific Standard Time; US west coast).

I’ve actually been thinking of suggesting they implement the current staff weapon as a melee weapon for the warrior. However, now that you have suggested a melee staff weapon in general, I can see how it might be useful for other classes too, like ranger, guardian, and mesmer.
As for the similarity in looks, all the current staves have a focus/ornament/accessory at the top of the staff, however a quarterstaff or bo staff would likely not have any bulky ornamentation at the end and would be more well balanced. I could easily see a quarterstaff having some nice ornamentation like the ends being capped in metal, having engravings, etc. but they would certainly have their own distinct look to them.
@Tiger: As for monk class, do you mean healer or hand-to-hand combatant with light armor (like a Shaolin monk)? They’ve already made it quite clear they aren’t going to have any dedicated healer classes in GW2, but a hand-to-hand combatant could be interesting.

+1 to this all the way! I want a toggle.
I would rather see my shield without the aegis effect over the top of it.
This sounds like a lot of fun, I am so in…once I’m done with finals at school. What day of the week and time of day were you thinking of doing it?
+1 to this if it applies to all exotic, ascended, and cultural armors (I don’t use cultural armor, but I wouldn’t mind seeing it on some of my exotic armors). A little off topic, but cultural armor should be exotic, too…or at least Tier 3 should (especially considering the price).
I think a trial version would be awesome! ArenaNet does occasionally have them at certain times, but I would like to see a permanently available one. The trial version in GW1 is the only reason I ended up buying GW1. At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to buy GW1, so I tried the free trial version and found I liked it enough to spend some money on it…then once I owned Prophecies, I found out it was even better than I had thought and ended up buying all the games.
likely because the first time such a filter is introduced they will work around it. The sheer amount of ways to write an URL make it nearly impossible to make the list. and surely, once you finally managed to get ALL these ways into the filter… they will change their name :P
vvvvvv.guildwars2.com
vvwvv.guildwars2.com
and this list goes on and on … and then when you finally got them all…www.guild-wars2.com you can start all over…

So best thing to do, when you see one of these buggers, right click their name and report them for goldselling !
Agreed
Yeah, I know what you mean, I have the same problem on my warrior. I think it would look a little odd if either item were not shown, but it’s a little hard to have both, so maybe a toggle might be nice.
It sounds like what you really want is more particle effects. Honestly, I think people might be upset if they started releasing cultural armor in the gem store at any price (it’s hard to say, but I personally don’t mind either way). However, more particle effects on equipment might be nice (especially if we could add them to any piece of equipment, though that would probably be tough to implement).
(edited by Bron.9647)
I agree, they would be so much more useful if they gave a certain amount of experience instead of straight levels (like the exact amount of experience required to get from level 1 to 20).
I don’t think that needs any compensation especially with that attitude.
See attachment.
Thanks!
This post really makes me wish we could -1 posts…
I also disagree. I really like the dynamic leveling, because it opens up the possibilities of places where you can play at the high levels. I mean who wants to be stuck to 3 or 4 zones at level 80. Plus, you can play on your level 80 with your lowbie friends and not feel like you completely over power everything and are wasting your time one-shotting enemies that you get crap loot for.
No, we don’t need Drow. One of the things I like about Guild Wars 2 is that it doesn’t have any of the cliché races, except of course humans which are used in everything. However, I would not be opposed to a new race in GW2, especially if it’s Tengu, Kodan, or Largos.
I know we all voted for Ellen Kiel and the Thaumanova Reactor fractal, but can we have both fractals? Honestly, I voted for Ellen Kiel myself, but not because of the fractal…I just liked her more as a character. Maybe we could have the other fractal by the end of next year?
I get the impression that the dungeon weapons for Orr were not originally designed for Orr, but rather to go with the Deep Sea Dragon (aka – Dragon of the Deep, Bubbles, and Blue Dragon). First off, there’s the name “Weapons of the Dragon’s Deep” and the fact that Bubbles is also known by the name “Dragon of the Deep”. Then there’s the fact that the Weapons of the Dragon’s Deep don’t look anything like what you would expect to come out of an undead dragon’s lair. However, they do look like something that might come out of a water dragon’s lair.
My suggestion is:
When Arena Net releases the Dragon of the Deep, connect the Weapons of the Dragon’s Deep to that dragon, instead of to Zhaitan. At the same time, you should create a new set of undead-looking weapons to go with Arah (the new Arah dungeon weapons). Of course, everyone who already has a weapon of the Dragon’s Deep, should get to keep it and it should remain exactly as is (I’m not suggesting replacing them, merely changing how you get them). I think this would make the weapons look more like they belong with the dungeon they came from. All the other dungeon weapons look more or less like they belong with the dungeon they came from, but the Arah dungeon weapons look more like they came from the deep sea than from an undead lair.
1. Guilds
2. Buy to Play
3. Jumping Puzzles
4. World Exploration
5. Attention to Detail
PS – I really wish I could add more. Absolutely awesome game!
+1 to this!
I love JPs and am well known in my guild for being one of the better jumpers and always being up for doing them. (off topic, but SAB was AWESOME!!!) I think at least 1 per town would be good, though 3 per town might be a bit much (except for big towns like DR).
Also 1 attack on the wall in wvw doesn’t work properly compared to the other classes.
You clearly don’t play the other classes, the other bows don’t work on walls either.
No ranged weapon does for any class…
+1 to this!
I actually suggested this very thing about 9 months ago in my thread: Mystic Forge recipe for Transmutation Stones. So obviously I am all for this!
The underwater breather also cannot be dyed, nor are there any rare or exotic breathers in the game and there is only one skin for the breathers.
As Teraphas has said there [were] 5 Tengu tribes in the past (the wiki says they lived throughout Tyria and Cantha and maybe even other places, like Elona). As Teraphas also said, there are currently 4 clans inside the Dominion of Winds (each named after one of the 4 winds, North, South, East, and West), they’re hometown in GW2.
The wiki also says the Tengu “currently remain neutral in all conflicts and are deciding which other races shall be their allies and who their foes.” This is the reason given as to why they are not a playable race at this time and maybe as Charlie suggests there will be a clan that disagrees with the other clans as to who to side with (or maybe a faction seperate from the clans), leading to a civil war among the Tengu or a rebellious group. The wiki goes on to say the Tengu “also appear to possess lost knowledge of the Elder Dragons, though the extent of this is unknown beyond the Elder Dragons having risen in the past. However, some tengu believe that the dragons have not yet made their move and what’s seen is only the beginning.” So, the Tengu seem to have a good reason to join the other races in the fight against the dragons.
As Seraph said, the Tengu were a strong candidate for a playable race before GW2 was released. Furthermore, the Tengu seem to already be set up to become a playable race at some point (they’re home city is already in the game and very visible). These points coupled with the simple fact that many people seem to want to play a Tengu (myself included), makes me think that ArenaNet will at some point decide to follow through with their initial intentions of making the Tengu a playable race. For all I know, they may already have this addition planned as part of an expansion…and honestly, adding a new race would definitely take a lot of work, so I could easily see them waiting till they release an expansion before adding a new race.
(edited by Bron.9647)
The underwater breather takes the place of your helmet (you may have noticed your helmet disappearing underwater). Your helmet is switched for your breather when you go underwater and your breather is switched for your helmet when you go on land, so your helmet cannot break underwater and your breather cannot break on land.
Please make SAB permanent after finished!

When the Super Adventure Box is finished, please make it a permanent part of Tyria! Or at the very least, continue to bring it back once a year. I love playing the Super Adventure Box and would be sad to see it go after World 4 is released.
Party dissolved in SAB, you get kicked, why?!

I HATE that bug!!! I seriously hope ArenaNet fixes the bug before the next release of SAB!
I was almost done with the Master of baubles for W2Z3 when my friend had to go and it kicked me. :< I was at the Yeti boss.
I feel your pain…I tried getting that achievement too. It took me about 4 hours, I think, to get through 2-3 and I still didn’t get it (I must have missed a bauble somewhere). Luckily, you don’t need all the achievements for the title.
I was able to do it with Dulfy’s guide 2 days ago. When I did 2-1 I missed some baubles, it really helped me to number them as I got him (like he does in the video).
Dulfy is a woman I think
Not necessarily, just because Dulfy plays a female character, does not mean he/she is a female in real life. Do you know how many guys play female characters? There’s really no way to know without asking Dulfy.
