#TeamGnashblade I’m feeling the love here. I’m suspicious that Evon is the elusive E.

Burn baby burn. I really enjoy the Living World more every update, and I look forward to the changes incoming. I was really glad the last one was WvW, so for a couple weeks I could play something ELSE for once, but I will be running back for this event. Then only one more chapter and Scarlet is finished!!! I am super excited for what the second season of the living world is going to be.
On the Northern Shiverpeaks server, “Defend the RCK-7550 golem as it stores energy.” is in a state where the golem in question is not to be seen while the progress bar is partially filled. No further interaction with the event causes the progress to resume, even after reviving the inventors.
I have enjoyed all their novels, and I hope they release more soon.
After making it to the fifth chain but failing, character was teleported to below the marionette, not in the rows, and even after jumping out of the Marionette area and into the lanes, the entrance portal remained green as seen in the picture below. It could not be interacted with, but it was peculiar.
Also, this was on an overflow map.
As is shown in the attached picture, the event track for a toxic offshoot event near Sojourner’s Waypoint does not disappear when event fails. Furthermore, it remains on the screen even when player is in other parts of the map, well out of range of the event.
The small Seraph outpost at the Seraph Observer’s Waypoint in Brisban Wildlands is under seige constantly. I remained there for an hour and a half and an infinite number of bandits continuously attacked without end.
Is this a feature? I was essentially able to farm small bags, lockpicks, worn shoes, and Aetherblade keys without ever leaving a circle of ten metre radius. No events kicked off, no story steps happened even after successfully escorting caravans to the location.
It seems suspiciously like a broken event chain.
@Chris
Everything in your first post is extremely encouraging and exciting. I only have one vital thing that should be added (and it may have been mentioned in the past 65 pages). From housing to grail quests, these all need to be steeped somehow in lore, and they need to add to the overall picture of the world, telling the stories of areas, races, people, organisations, even if only in brief. Also I would recommend at least some of the these grail quests chain. I think the quest format is perfect for GW2, marrying the co-operation encouraging mechanics, with classic MMO storytelling would be fantastic, and would make the world feel even more vibrant and exciting.
Also, if there are multiple ways for obtaining the reward, for example multiple different grail quests towards the same goal, after earning the reward the other quests ought to still be rewarding with lore and the typical event rewards.
So much that is coming down the pipes for GW2 is exciting! The game is now truly how ideally it would have been at launch and now for the next year I look forward to it becoming even more amazing!
East of the Dolyak pass waypoint are two Seraph Honour guards waiting to pick up an emissary for the Queen’s Jubilee. The poor chaps did not get the memo that the Jubilee is long gone and are freezing their tushes off for no reason.
This is why I’m founding the Seraph Worker’s Union, contact me to apply.
Your activist,
-Cae
P.S. (No, don’t contact me, the bug is real, the union thing is a joke.)
This bug has so much win. 64! Addicted are we?! Granted, the character creator is more fun than should be legal.
I noticed that when I used Radiant Fire trait, though the tool tip for Zealot’s Flame changed from 15 to 12 seconds recharge, the actual skill recharge was from 22 to 17 seconds.
So, either Zealot’s Flame was nerfed and the tool tip was never changed, or it’s incorrect.
P.S. (Search function on forums is not working either, so I can’t check whether this has been addressed or not.)
Signed,
TechnoCharr
Edit: I realised the recharge works as intended with Zealot’s Flame if you wait a second before using Zealot’s Fire. It’s just when the player transfers immediately from Zealot’s Flame to Zealot’s Fire that the time bug occurs.

Most minigames from the last release are staying ingame, so some of these may as well? We don’t have confirmation. The arena in DR seems pretty permanent though!
When I first saw it I thought it was a stylised emblem of Shiro Tagachi… thankfully it’s not, I still have trauma from that fellow.
Djinn are in a way sentient elementals, but they are not the same as the elementals you summon. So both Dustfinger AND Mad Queen are correct, there is a clear distinction between the too, but for classification sake they can be considered similar creatures.
In Judaism, a jubilee was every 7 years, when all slaves and debts were set free, no matter how much left was owed. 25 year jubilees are an English tradition.
I thought the fiftieth year was the Year of Jubilee. Am I interpreting this incorrectly?
Actually, you are right. Every 7 years was a Sabbatical year, when loan debts and slaves were released, and every 49-50 years was a Jubilee when all the slaves and ancestral lands were released/returned to their families. Some refer to the Sabbatical as a lesser Jubilee and the 50 years as the great Jubilee, which is what threw me off.
In Judaism, a jubilee was every 7 years, when all slaves and debts were set free, no matter how much left was owed. 25 year jubilees are an English tradition.
Centaurs does seem like a very possible plot. However, the character also reminds me of the Wardens (from Cantha) but I think that’s just wistful thinking.
The picture is called QJ (probably Queen’s Jubilee as others have suggested) but also Next Hero. Who is this “Next Hero?” That’s what got me curious. I’m hoping for new zones to be released soon, considering it has been a while since they expanded the living world team (and they still have a tonne of people working on big projects who have been working since release).
Certification for marriage, adoption, and other family/community centered practices did not become the norm until the 75-100 years ago in our world (and much of the world STILL does not use the certifications). There are no signs that certifications for these practices are in existence as most governments in Tyria are involved in public defense and justice and keeping their noses out of people’s everyday lives.

Mere-exposure affect in action (the affect of being attracted to, or just appreciating appearances/persons just due to being around them and familiar with them). Due to Tybalt being exposed to humans for a long time, he would have been able to view them as attractive due to them being familiar. Sykox from the Sea of Sorrows commented on a prettiness of a human female at least once (as far as I’ve read).
Then the admiration would be mostly (if not wholly) non-sexual. I mean, someone who is exposed to horses definitely appreciate their beauty and healthy appearance…and I’ll just leave it at that.
If there was any sexual attraction to human breasts, it’s likely a learned behavior that boobs are sensual glands to both males and females.
Either that or he just has weird preferences, which in this context is too funny and likely a whole thread discussion on its own :-P
What’s wrong with adopting anyway? (Interracial adoptions can be seen in the game world which is pretty cool.)
The backstory of my Charr!
I actually find the characters that don’t conform to the natural tendencies of their races to be the most interesting. A Charr who, while a fighter, still is level headed and attempts to resolve things peacefully, an Asura who isn’t a super genius but uses his mind to be a creator ofworks of art like clothing or painting, or short tempered Sylvari who jump to a fight at the first drop of a hat.
It likely means they are more relate-able to a wider range of close friendships/relations
Yeah, I don’t think Sycox or Tybalt were attracted to humans in a sexual way (but it would be awfully funny if either of them were.)
I love characters which contradict their race’s stereotypes, which is actually why my story has actually gotten put down a few times because the main charr character is not a vicious war-kitten. (he was decommissioned when he was twelve and made a rancher due to an injury when he was just out of the fahrar). Stereotypes anti-stereotypes can be used well, but they need to be tempered with something that makes the character a person (<basic writing tip).
Seven, once a soldier, now a peasant,
Orla, from birth a servant, whose destiny yet unfolds,
Rhiannon, rotting but not destroyed.
The first two; friends of the closest kind,
The third; a sapling seeking something lost and forgotten.
Three outcasts, charr, human, sylvari,
Become stones in a Foundation.
I’m just going to go ahead and be corny with this:
A saga in five acts over four years about a decommissioned charr, the woman he loves, and a lost sylvari who joins him.
Read it here! http://www.fanfiction.net/s/9176307/1/Dance-of-Lead
Act I is completed in full, Act II is partially released.
Starring:
Seven Steelwolf, 15-19, charr.
Orla Ni Jen, 16-20, human.
Rhiannon, 0-4, sylvari.
Co-starring:
Srykar, charr.
Darius Sootcatcher, charr.
Inna Fronsdotter, norn.
Adygey Caerulei, human.
Patrick Keenan, human.
Genres: Action, Romance, Drama, Comedy
I maintain that they should be weird and uncanny (like the engineer) and bring out a Staff for the Engi which he uses as a Lightning Rod/Tuning Fork or they could just make it a kit.
Well let’s think of a new set of skills for the Engie. They have Turrets, Gagdets, Kits, and Elixirs and I’ve got a few ideas for each category.
TURRETS:
Buzz Saw Turret:
Turret launches Buzz Saws that bleed and cripple targets. Activated skill; Fires 3 Buzz saws at once every 2 seconds for 8 seconds
Tool Belt Skill; Throw Buzz Saw; Apply 3 stacks of bleed and cripple the target.Shock Turret:
Fires Bolts of lightning that bounces between targets and applies vulnerability. Activated skill; Produce a lightning field
Tool Belt Skill; Shock Treatment; Discharge a bolt of lightning that dazes the target.GADGETS
Mini-Asura Gate: Create an exit gate. Create an entry gate. The gates short-circuit after 60s.
Tool belt skill; Displacement; Swap positions with target enemy.Grapple Hook
Pull yourself to target location. Immobilize foes in target area.
Tool Belt skill; Shoot Grappling Rope; Target foe is knocked down for 2s.Taser
Shoot a taser bolt at your target, stunning them for 1.5s
Toolbelt; Taser Pull – Pull your target toward you immobilizing them for 2sKITS
- Lightning Rod/Tuning Fork Kit (You can see my suggestion here.)
- Portal GunBoomerang Kit
Boomerang – Throw a boomerang that strikes foes both waysBladed Boomerang – Throw a bladed boomerang that cripples foes on exit and bleeds foes on return
Boomerchet – Throw a boomerang that bounces between targets dealing more damage the more targets it hits.
Tornaderang – Throw a rapid succession of boomerangs that strike foes both ways. Nearby foes are pushed back. (Whirl Finisher, Same animation as Whirling Defense on the Ranger)
BOOM! erang – Throw a boomerang that stuns targets on exit (1s)and explodes on return.
Tool Belt Skill; Baterang; Throw a bat shaped boomerang that bounces between foes and disables them for 2 seconds (Daze 2s).
ELIXIRS
- Elixir V; Your next 3 attacks are unblockable. Toss Elixir V; Enemies gain 10 stacks of Vulnerability.- Elixir D: Your next attack does 50% more damage. Toss Elixir D; Deal damage to foes on impact.
I am throwing gems at the screen and nothing is happenning
I actually really like the written pieces! And it’s not like they are a case of either-or, if they were not written on the website we would have never seen them. The argument is similar to saying “There should be no books because that lore should be all accessible in the game!” They are called extras for a reason! And tonnes of other mmos post these all the time.
I do understand some of the frustration over living story (especially since most of us have finish the overall great personal story) but I see the living story definitely improving!
That is the Eye of the North my friend. You should have a blue glowey object in your inventory, click it to go there!
Evon and Abbadon are my choices hands down, too much interesting lore. Also, Kiel seems like a rather dull goody-two-shoes and having Evon on captains’ counsel may provide for some more interesting plot twists.
All that means is it is not currently possible. I point out “Evolving World” It is not inconceivable that a few asura get together and make genetic manipulation possible for inter racial children.
That evolving world is dependant on the will of the Creators.
Through transgenal process, yes, just about any two species can be combined in some way. Morally it’s highly questionable though. People making artificial offspring are effectively making children for their own validation, rather than the wellbeing of the children being placed first. The purpose of procreating ceases to be primarily for the good of the next generation, but to meet the wants of the previous generations.
steps off soapbox
What’s wrong with adopting anyway? (Interracial adoptions can be seen in the game world which is pretty cool.)
I always considered Tybalt as just weird, but I like the weird ones :P
When I ran that mission I didn’t think too much into the quote except to laugh but afterwards it made me think, Charr females likely only developed enlarged mammary glands during and a short time after pregnancy and the male would likely be hunting (fighting) in the female’s stead until after the cub is developed. Doubtful males ever have the opportunity to ‘appreciate’ such development in that time span so how the heck a Charr even cares about boobs is odd.
I would assume it’s partially learned from other humans likely how a human who’d grow a fancy for Asura would learn their ears are a desirable and sensual part of their body.
Anyway, in the Tyrian universe (and just about any other fictional universe), where multiple sentient races exist together, a little relational meddling is bound to happen, though I’m quite sure it would remain very rare.
Evon for counsel! I want to see Abbadon in GW2, and I’ve always liked Evon more than Kiel.
The reactor is interesting, but ABBADON!!! Evon Gnashblade won me with that! (and I’ve always liked the guy, he’s a charr with class).
I ran across Gulik Oddson at Killeen’s grave in Fields of Ruin the other day. I haven’t read the GW2 novels, but his dialogue heavily implies that he was romantically involved with Killeen, making it a Norn-Sylvari relationship.
It doesn’t really come off that way in the novel, sorry to say. They seem to be just friends and traveling companions, or at most more like brother/sister than romantically involved.
Yeah, I never thought Gulik was interested in that way with Killeen. Actually I thought there was a mildly implied attraction between Killeen and Dougal Keane.
However, Dougal is still, as he described it, close with Ember Doomforge and they keep in touch. An example of friendship from the group that’s still alive, which I find really cool.
Turn the teeth in and make them as small as possible. Also, turn the eyes down, making him look just a tiny bit sad, and mellow most of the facial features, though make his bone structure noticeable if you can. Putting the game into window mode and having a picture of him alongside would help. It will not look exactly like him, but you can get really close.
Yes he is adorable. We all love him.
Just going to put this here
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Burn me, I’m a human girl! Whoa, I’ve got two hands and some lovely…apples.
<Character name>: Keep your mind on the job, Tybalt. Go roam the city, and we’ll see if the ministry guards take the bait.
Interesting how this fella seems just a bit affected by human female assets. Makes one wonder how many charr have a repressed attraction to humans ;-).
Found it funny that you were quoting the wrong person when you were quoting me. Confused me at first.
Whoops! Apologies, I’ll see if I can fix that. :-S
cont. from previous post:
When they returned, they created a fanatical religious group that viewed them as gods, killing off any who saw them and was no fully devout (including taking away the founder of said religious group into who-knows-where), and then killed thousands of individuals to power the Door of Komalie over the course of 5 or more years – the only motivation of this being to prevent the Flameseeker Prophecies which foretold the mursaat’s extinction, but not how except that the means was behind the Door of Komalie and the Chosen would open said Door.
Then there’s the actions of Lazarus and the 7 other mursaat who survived the titan assault. Lazarus split himself into multiple faithful followers, killing them all to survive the titan attack. The other seven (which may or may not include Lazarus in the background) led their fanatical religious group into an even darker and bloodier path of oppression through the leadership of Isaiah.
I’m sorry, but I think the concept of the mursaat being a case of “the ends justifies the means” unless that end is always “saving myself.”
Timeline note: the previous dragonrise was 10,000 years ago. They could have phased back into Tyria shortly after that which meant they existed mostly unbeknownst to the other races until around 300 years ago. Self preservation is a rather legitimate reason. Not saying what they did was good, it was rather evil, I agree with you. But again, it could be “ends justify the means” would have been their reasoning. Or that they didn’t see other races as at all significant of a loss (similar to the jotun, seers, charr, humans, and historically the asura).
The Elder Dragons rise in cycles. If anything, what would have kept the Elder Dragons sleeping would be the lack of magic – as Drakkar took power from the Sons of Svanir to strengthen Jormag for his rise. Which would mean the only way the Bloodstones could aid in keeping the ED sleeping would be to remove any release of magic. Which I don’t think the mursaat were doing, as there’s 0 indication of this.
Actually, the bloodstones draw power from the dragons, making them hungry, at least as hinted in the Arah dungeon, so feeding the bloodstones, though probably inadvertently, may have kept the dragons sated.
Before GW2, I’d agree. With GW2, and knowing their history, I can’t agree. The mursaat are a pure evil race, like the krait but for different reasons and means (mursaat are selfish self-preserving pricks, the krait are brainwashed zealots of a dark faith).
We don’t really know the mursaat history save from how they were viewed by others. After all, we believed the charr were cannibals until GW:EN. GW1 was all from the perspective of humans, and though yes, all of it is valid fact. Though before GW:EN, all human/charr interaction was highly negative, since the charr were genocidal fanatics with the ultimate goal of whiping humans off of Tyria as late as 3 years ago before the truce. Likewise, humans have a tendency of trying to wipe out other races (forgotton, charr, tengu, and other human nations of course), despite the fact that all humans are not evil.
I’m not saying the mursaat are good, they are probably generally evil from what we have seen. However, it’s what we have not seen that leaves things to question. Sentience in and of itself means that beings may or may not be evil. Mursaat are obviously sentient, thus capable of being either good or evil. The dragons are not sentient, their desire is to eat, thus their “evil” is just fact that they exist, which means Zhaitan and all his fellows can’t be described as either good nor evil. In order for anyone to be evil, there has to have been a possibility of being good.
Though it may never happen, it is entirely feasible within the realm of Tyrian lore that mursaat, or some mursaat may be shown in a different light. No case has been closed, not until we’ve walked the halls of the mursaat cities, read mursaat written history, and met mursaat from all levels of their society and culture, and even then it does not eliminate the possibilities of there being an oddball mursaat.
Your opinion is valid, but far from the only possibility.
(edited by Caerulei.7159)
They betrayed the jotun, seer, forgotten, and dwarves (at least!), nearly wiped out the seer race – certainly wiped out enough so that the race wouldn’t have a chance of recovery – and then fled the world while the Elder Dragons were still active, which in turn took the elder races’ strongest known (to us) weapon against the Elder Dragons – Spectral Agony and their phasing out of existence.
Exhibit A, charr.
Yes, the raison d’être of mursaat has been to preserve themselves at all costs, with little concern for the other races. But who were the other races at the time? The jotun, who even at their peak were a brutal, invading race constantly at war and annihilating their neighbours, until they had conquered the Shiverpeaks and then turned on themselves. Seers, while though we never met more than a couple, the ones we did meet were quite happy to omit the fact that we were letting monstrous Titans into the world by our actions and seemed potentially in cahoots with the Vizier. For the sole goal of annihilating another race, at the cost of the lives of many, many others. Now since they are called seers, they may have been able to see the outcome, assuming they could perceive the future.
These races do not make good candidates for allies, unlike the current races that seem able to reason with one another (and only through extraordinary circumstances). Would the mursaat feel a responsibility to any of the other races? I rather doubt it.
Extremely unlikely. The island, as seen on the world map, is brownish. This indicates volcanic or at the very least, barren. The city – if it were even mursaat in origins (we only know they were inhabiting it!) – was within or on the edge of a forest.
Mursaat are capable of phasing and concealing things, so much of the life on the island may be invisible. (Speculation I’ll admit) They may also be in the forests just north of Kryta. (cont. next post)
(edited by Caerulei.7159)
When a mesmer uses blink while running, the mesmer’s body returns to standing position and glides over landscape unmoving until forward arrow button is released.
There is still the Isles of Janthir, which if anyone remembers the Eye of Janthir was a key part of the Mursaat storyline in GW1 and Saul apparently went into their city.
Is that city on the Isle of Janthir? If so, did the Titans actually ever go up there? The city may still exist, and other cities may as well. Assuming Mursaat are born/hatch/spawn like any other creature, they would likely have both good and evil members of their race. Furthermore, though their actions in Kryta were pretty terrible, they were only trying to power the soul batteries to literally keep hell from breaking through Komalie. Personally I think the Mursaat were an example of the ends justify the means rather than being outright evil.
Not to mention, there’s plot to suggest that the Mursaat were trying to keep the bloodstones energised and the bloodstones may have been what was keeping the dragons from rising again.
I’m being devil’s advocate here, because there is most definitely more to the Mursaat than meets the eye.
I also think there’s a chance that most of the mursaat back in their homeland/city (assuming it exists) may have been ignorant of their nation’s foreign policy (I could list off earthly examples but I don’t want to bore you.) So we only got to see the soldiers, the invaders, and the killers of the Mursaat in GW1. If the charr got redeemed, I think it is likely that the mursaat may at least be somewhat humanised in GW2.
snip
Charr don’t really seem to be much for romance, so I don’t really see them getting with other races unless they’re an oddball of the race. Long-term monogamous relationships are rare in charr culture. Usually it’s just for fun or breeding for the Legion. (side note: sometimes, it seems like sex is like a job for them, which is sad…)snip
Actually according to Ree Soesbee, charr and human romantic relationships are similar, just that charr are so militarily obsessed that romance can be difficult. However, if you walk around the citadel you are bound to hear snippets of flirting and relationship talk. (also, charr females play hard to get to the extreme).
You’ll notice that outside their militaristic society, charr are actually rather mellow (not as the average human perhaps), for example the charr residents of Lion’s Arch and the farmers in Diessa and Ashford are for the most part, mild mannered. It’s really their spartan society that makes them so gruff and at times cold towards relationships. Persona wise, charr are arguably the race most similar to humans, which is probably why they’ve had such a history of violence and strained relationships.
the quest in gw1 where you nearly get married to a norn is called Prenuptial Disagreement, in the female version olaf olafson says “It is Norn custom that marriage can only happen between those of equal reputation. All your hard work has paid off! Now we can be wed, raise a dozen half-Norn children, and live in the mountains.”
however someone confirmed that norn and humans cannot interbreed
Yes, Jeff Grubb himself confirmed that interbreeding is impossible, he is also responsible for the Prenuptial Disagreement quest line. It was unexplored territory for Norn whether half-norn were possible, but Olaf was very eager to try his best! ;-)
[Group Event]Clear the karka and their eggs to rebuild Camp Karka.
(instructions) Kill veteran karka hive defender.
Karka is a champion. I am confused.
I don’t think this game even has a /stuck feature.
It could be epic. I wanna see what you do with it!
Once again, people are talking about sex in my MMO…
Hybrids, lore-wise, are not possible, but Ree Soesbee herself did say that sylvari in particular are able to fall in love with ANYONE (gender and species be kitten ed). As far as other races, I think if one spends enough time in Lion’s Arch or the Pact one is likely to see various combinations of races interacting in a potentially intimate way. There are human women/men swooning over norns in almost every city, there are various examples of charr and sylvari being very friendly, and at times playful with one another, and on rare occasions, humans are charr are pushing down cultural barriers between one another, particularly in Fields of Ruin and Ashford.
And though it’s not in a romantic way, there is a charr cub and human girl in LA who have the sweetest dialogue together about being BFFs even if their parents forbid it. (and when puberty hits, who knows what could happen?)
Are interspecies relationships canon? Yes. Plausible even! Especially when you consider that all the races are sentient and being sentient can be deviant of cultural/sexual norms.
Elona is likely because NCsoft does not care about mixing African cultures (<<’), Cantha on the other hand… ( ;; )
Not to mention there is so much important lore in Elona! Palawa Joko is a likely future antagonist but there are still a tonne of prophesies/EOTN areas untouched! Maguuma, Verdant Forests, Fire Island chain, Crystal Desert, Northern Shiverpeaks, Blood Legion homelands, not to mention the Ash Legion homelands in the east, Isles of Janthir to the north, the last regions of Orr, and the Domain of Winds.
Elona is only likely after ALL of these have been released, but in 3-4 years I think we’re likely to see the land of the golden sun return, at least in part.
In Southsun there is an innexcapable terrain trap. Jumping does not work.
Attached picture shows location.
In Dredgehaunt Cliffs, outside and southwest the Dostoev Sky Peak the snow has a very odd glitch. What looks like lightning jumps between the snowflakes.
Attached is an image of the location. Unfortunately I was not able to take a picture of the effect itself despite how many screenshots I took, the lightning was too fast.
I was playing on lowest settings.
Those mentally ill (learning disability, slow etc) but are still able to fight seem to not have much of a problem. Those who have other issues seem to be ranchers, or workers. If you go around Charr territory, you will find plenty of mentally questionable charr, who seem to be doing just fine in their own way.
Rox actually grew on me a lot! Initially I was as put off as the rest of you, but ingame her eyes aren’t that bad, and she’s pretty cool (and not too “Ehrmehgerd! Rytlock-sensei is finally noticing me! Kyaa-ah!” but rather “Let’s burn these suckas.”)
The Imperator’s Core is also a trap. Exiting is impossible without waypointing or logging out.
Edit: Oopse, thread was merged so I guess y’all knew about this for a while.
(edited by Caerulei.7159)
Like many other cultural aspects of the pre-dragonrise charr, with the overthrow of the flame legion the remaining three legions did not have much love for their former culture. Modernly they have abandoned their ancient language, religions, and social forms.
The Krytan language was adopted because it was useful for them to know the language spoken by their enemies, and now it’s useful because everyone else speaks it as a trade language.
The norn and asura both still use their own writing systems amongst themselves, but otherwise New Krytan is the all-encompassing language of Tyria. (barring Elona and Cantha)
