Dungeons aren't fun in my view

I think any sort of “fun” in dungeons died when they announced to get rid of the “Holy Trinity”. The trinity made sure dungeons were organized, fluid, everyone had a specific job, and everyone got rewarded for that job.

This game takes all of that throws it out the window, grabs some lighter fluid and burns it alive. There’s no sound structure, fights consist of a bunch of aoe so it’s just a mess of graphics, the rewards are……….pitiful to say the most. There’s no joy in these dungeons. I think the OP is right. I just have no intentions of ever trying these trainwreck dungeons until Anet at least puts some effort into fixing them.

The “Dynamic” events they gave us pose no threat at all. If you don’t need the points or xp why do the event? Bandits are never going to go five feet past the area they just took over, they’re never going to attempt a siege on Divinity’s Reach. The AI in this game is terrible…..I watch as wave after wave of bandits and centaurs throw themselves at a camp and fail miserably, so what happens? Do they learn from that defeat? Do they take measures to counter it? No….10 minutes later they do the same thing.

Around level 30ish you get your story line quest and it takes you (at least the vigil does) to the other side of the continent and I assume you just forget the whole war with the centaurs…….am I missing something?

Seriously I don’t know how many times I’ve gone to attack a structure or a giant boss (let’s use shadow behemoth here) and I’m standing right next to them and I get “miss” “miss” “miss”(you get the idea).

When fighting Shadow Behemoth it’s the same thing. When I get close to him it’s nothing but misses, when I’m no where near his head every single attack lands……..

So I guess my question is….is this getting looked at? Why was this even allowed to be a problem this far into the game?

The one thing that sort of keeps me from playing is the HUGE lack of endgame. The final boss was killed by pressing the 2 button like 1600000 times……..most bosses in this game are killed by standing under their feet and pressing buttons…..just nothing fun about that.

How to spice up those dynamic events?

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Cawesome.1580

Cawesome.1580

The best thing that ArenaNet could do to improve DE’s right now is to fix the excessive number of them that are broken.

I’m currently in Iron Marches, and no less than half the events that I’ve come across on this map are simply not working. NPC’s just stand around doing nothing, and my favorite, the branded army, killing the army does not diminish the mob counter, so after you kill the army, then kill the boss, he just laughs at you and resets.

Wait they’re still having problems fixing DE’s? Wow……..

I agree, the gear in this game is horrid, most of the heart vendors have trash gear, crafting gear is barely on par with gear found around the world, and the greens and yellows you get from completing an area is just random stats with random gear sets. Anet is doing a great job of pushing everyone into the zerg zone (PvP).

This was akitten poor plan to stop botters, if you want to stop botters, then take the time and come up with a legitimate way to do so, reducing the rewards to a pitiful state isn’t going to do crap, it will just force the botters to bot even longer thus solving nothing. Anet did more harm than good and really dropped the ball on this one, was a real slap to the actual players faces. Anet you really let me down this time.

Cawesome.1580

This might be the only other complaint in this game I have to disagree with. Orr is the base island for the Risen, it only makes sense that they’re everywhere on the island. It’s also why all the DE’s there feel like a fight for every inch of soil there. Now my only complaint is the amount of broken DE’s that were there. It was astounding to see that many things broken, one ore two DE’s down…that’s understandable but when 40-50% of DE’s are broken…..that’s just pathetic.

Cawesome.1580

Yeah there’s nothing at the end, the whole vision of the entire game being endgame is a joke. We have a diminishing return on DE’s which means you get less of a reward from DE’s as you do more, so you could go into a low level area and get a pathetic reward or you could do a DE in Orr and get a pitiful reward, not much incentive to do DE’s. Dungeons are pretty much the same, and PvP is just a laughing stock of just who has the biggest zerg. There’s potential for a great game, yet patch after patch I’m just seeing nothing but garbage.

Get rid of the constant diminishing returns throughout the game!

How did they not see this coming and why havn’t they said akittenword on it? Players ahve been asking for an answer for a while now and they remain silent? So far all I can see is they have my money and are content to just sit there and do nothing but force us to spend more time and money on their gems to get gold or boosts to up the pitifully pathetic drop rate.

One of the biggest things in most fantasy rpgs for me is the look and style. That being said my biggest pet peeve is when I’m using a shield and there’s no handle on it, or an armstrap, it just floats an inch off my arm, that’s the sort of thing you’d come to expect from a lesser game. Also tied into this is such things as having my characters hair go through my armor or the shield that’s on my back, it’s nothing game breaking but it does take away nonetheless. Hopefully Anet looks into this, starting to notice that they’re finally looking into the endgame broken DE"s so maybe this might be next.

Cawesome.1580

Tempest let me ask you this, once you’re done with the small trivial tasks this game offers, what then? I was looking forward to fighting an epic battle with Zaihtan, but look how that turned out, a pitiful fight and a slap in the face from Anet. Raids and PvP is one way to get the gear to be the best, and that is a major part of any MMO, to have the best gear and stats, this game has said F all to that and instead just said here’s gear that can be bought grind for it, after they said that they didn’t want to have a game with people standing around doing the same thing over and over because a quest giver says so. Yet what do you see, people farming the same DE’s, the same dungeons, are just zerging in PvP, nothing but grind. The number one rule for any MMO in this day and age is, if you can’t get your foot in the door on the first week (or month if you’re lucky) chances are you’re going to fail, and I have to tell you looking on forums……it’s not looking good for Anet. They need to buckle up and start getting their act together or people will leave them like SWTOR and go on looking for a better MMO.

Love the whole you should have researched before you bought. Let me ask you this once you get done with the miserable amount of PvE there is in this game and you’re bored with the PvP in this game then what? You already have your vanity gear from dungeons, karma vendors or w/e, what will you do then? Sit in a city and talk on general chat? Anet should’ve known that people would want some sort of endgame content, be it in the form of an extremely hard group event or something. The fact that there is literally nothing to do at 80 is just sad. Sure for those that like to PvP this game will be great, for those that don’t why should they be forced to miss out on a fun game because Anet couldn’t put it together that people want something to progress towards?

Why I find the game uninteresting - From a longtime Guild Wars 1 player

Cawesome.1580

Lot of fanboys in this thread, I do have to agree, a lot in this game was a huge disappointment. After you get out of the beta tested areas it’s just one broken DE after another, and even when you do find a working DE it’s just a spam fest of just aoes, and all people do at level 80 is grind grind grind for 63k karma. Dungeons in this game are a joke, sure the first run was hard when you didn’t know what to expect but after that…a joke. I’m not sure what Anet did wrong, I watched their manifesto, read all their updates and it seemed to be going well. I was expecting a world that would be alive, not just have X centaurs that are standing still and need to be killed, or just have X centaurs attack a place and need to kill them. What did we get? X centaurs standing in a field or X centaurs attacking an outpost that need to be killed.

I wouldn’t mind the grind so much if maybe Orr events actually worked, or if maybe the rewards from lower level areas were scaled up to my actual level, after all I am being scaled down to their level so not the other way around.

Guardian is a bit tricky to build because there’s so many different ways to build them. You sound as though you want to be a dps power house so hammer is ok, it’s not the best as of right now until they do the change to it. Greatsword is awesome since it has the blind on your opening move (4), an aoe damaging ability that pulls 5 targets in to you (5), then your (2) which is another aoe that grants you retaliation followed by your massive aoe (3). There’s also a good build that revolves around condition damage and uses the 1 hand sword and torch. Put points in your power and toughness tree to help maximize your two hand skills.

Does Zhaitan deserve a world event?

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Cawesome.1580

Cawesome.1580

I think playing off the mega event, it should’ve been a series of having the Orr, and other regions use DE’s to gather the resources to build cannons and tanks to fight Zhaitan. These Events could take a week or two to get ready and once it was all ready it would be a struggle to hold the ground to build the siege weapons and tanks and cannons. Then have a finale event that’s announced server wide, that has people scaled to level 80 to help fight zhaitan. You’d have a force taking him head on, while others hold off an army, and by army I don’t mean like 14 mobs that spawn, like 100’s of mobs from the weapons. The Zhaitan event in your story was a joke and a real slap in the face to the players from Anet, I literally felt let down by them with that weak fight.

I love and hate PvE! Where is the danger?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cawesome.1580

It seems as though all the danger got put into the dungeons and none was left over for the world DE’s. Dungeons are just a train wreck, you don’t really see anyone doing them atm, and all you really see is a zerg of people doing DE’s and just grind grind grind. I actually think I have done more grinding in this game than any other MMO, as much as I hate to say this, even WoW has it’s PvE progression done right. Dungeons are a good challenge, you get rewarded for doing a good job, and then you move on to the next challenge. With GW2 I find myself in Orr, trying to find one DE that isn’t broken, and farming it for the max possible KP and gold, over and over and over.

Frustrations over lack of endgame

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cawesome.1580

Cawesome.1580

Metalripper is right, fanboyism is clouding a lot of judgement. Endgame or lack there of is just sad to say the least. About 30-40% of all events or skill points in the Orr regions are bugged, and if going around the world to help friends and others is also endgame why is it that my rewards for doing them is significantly lower than those in Orr? The only logical thing to do is grind the DE’s in Orr to maintain repair costs, and waypoint fares. DE’s are just classic WoW quests in disguise, sorry to break it to you but they are, they only got rid of the go talk to so and so part, and just forced some letters on your screen that say go kill X centaurs. After watching their manifesto and playing the game to 80, and doing a lot of suggested tasks people have mentioned it’s sad that there’s no real PvE endgame. We have a few dungeons that are hard the first time, then after that they’re cake. Spoiler Zhaitan, the “first” final boss for us…..was a joke, the fight was to easy, to cookie cut, just plain boring. For those saying that PvP is a good chunk of the endgame, some people don’t like to PvP some people like to just PvE and the other way around. It just seems after watching and following all the news for this game, they really failed to live up to it.

IMHO, The game is a mess, it’s fun but more of a jump on and just do w/e kind of fun. Dungeons are just a mess of spam all the AoE’s, PvP is the same, PvE and world bosses are the same. For a company that stated no one likes having to grind over and over and over, I find myself grinding world bosses and “endgame” DE’s over and over and over just to get some gear. They stated that they didn’t want going back to help lowbie friends to feel like a chore, yet it costs me more in travel expenses to go help them than the rewards for doing DE’s with them give, yet I’m being scaled down to their level to help?

Truth, The Risen Priest of Balthazar is the right way to do an event, it’s just to bad that not all events have that same feel to them. They’re just to easy, I can understand the starting zone being that way to ease players into the game style but at like 60+ it should feel like an epic fight just to bring supplies to a camp across the other side of Orr, we are on the doorsteps of an elder dragon after all, no?
