The raids themselves are pretty easy compared to raids in.. pretty much any MMO, which is a good thing for GW2. It has however turned the community into garbage.
a proc = programmed random occurrence.
Not helping you with your issue, just hate seeing people use that incorrectly.
In LA I kinda get it with all the peeps, but in raids its made things nearly unplayable for me for about a month now.
I change settings to ‘best performance’ and the FPS barely changes from highest settings.
Before then, I was playing from a gaming laptop in hotels with no issues at all, I get home and now raids are a laggy mess.
main compy has a 4.4 i7, double 980 ti’s, game running on an SSD, 64bit gw2, win10. My lappy isnt nearly as good and again, it ran fine there.
Has anything changed recently, or is there anything I can do?
I also want to add, its not even remotely fun to have to watch videos on another screen in order to know how to lvl up. Like.. why is that a thing? It should not be a thing.
GW2 is one of the best lvling experiences in an MMO. You can do anything, ANYTHING you like and lvl from it. Its great!
HoTs new ‘lvling’ system is mastery pts. By contrast its the WORST lvling experience Ive ever had in an MMO. Id pay thousands and thousands of fractal / arah tokens / even mag shards at this pt, for even 1 mastery pt. I hate the nuances of layered HoT maps and all these nonsense RNGriddled minigames. That stuff should award chievo pts only, not be required to bloody lvl up.
I actually had fun playing again yesterday &
I actually had an income from dungeons/fracs yesterday.
I did a raid too. kiiinda hated it after being reminded that 5 player (now 3-4 player) content exists and can be made both fun and profitable again.
I also found myself relearning speedrun stuff I had forgotten. Despite power creep, theres really lots more skill involved doing small group stuff properly vs the raid.
Dont really know what my point was… I was just reminded finally after 6+ months of garbage why Ive kept playing this game. I hope the future fractal additions keep this game mode alive.
Id wait until you see the effects and stuff in-game before really judging it.
I like the Astra axe but.. I coincidentally use the zodiac axe on the 1 character I’d consider using it on.
I like HOPE but use the aether pistol on anything Id use that skin on too, which again.. similar enough.
Prolly the most unique one is Nevermore, but if I got it, it’d be replacing a dreamthistle staff character.
I think all the legendaries are.. ‘legendary’ enough by the standards of any other legendary. They may share similar’ish color palettes or themes of current weapons but they’re clearly more involved. Again, I’d wait to get a real preview of the weapon before moaning about it. Its just a quick ‘teaser’.
Expansions can be good. My opinion on why I think HoT sucked is irrelevant.
My ‘thought on the subject’ was that simply being an expansion has no bearing and I already said that.
Its not prominent, but should also mention the boon Resistance.
Dont think I saw anyone mention that yet.
Just because HoT was an ‘expansion’ isnt why it sucked.
definitely not buying next expac unless everything its supposed to come with comes at release…
I’m kind of surprised that there were no new reveals in the code from yesterday’s update unless That_Shaman is purposely holding back.
I thought he said he was stepping back from this game?
considering its now the only content in gw2, suuuure.
would I rather have dungeons/fractals, yes.
I spoke with a dev that made weapon skins years ago. They said for every weapon color in-game (for those that have multiple colors) you have to add in a new weapon model with that color for each one.
Basically impossible with the current tools/engine/whatever you wanna call it.
Maybe a little… but Might, Fury, Quickness always, swiftness is nothing from me but I see it. Regen I see almost constantly, which with traits has a CD to give you prot, and if you have a guardian you’ll have that perma anyway in addition to some random bouts of retal and aegis. Every shatter also gives you stab. Cont Split gives resistance, only for that shatter but.. its an extra one you def didnt have before right as you split so its nothing to scoff at. I was thinking more like 7-9 at any given time which is 21-27; I dont think thats really a ‘fantasy’.
I get what you’re saying about the ramp up now, you meant the ramp up every condi has to do. I guess the application of the condis are a bit less ‘bursty’ in their application than other condi builds. But I figure that was more because my utility bar is covered in support wells instead of condi fields/kits and such.
So I went and ran the numbers for this build. With some generous assumptions (F1 and F2 4 clone shatters instantly off cooldown and maintaining 10 stacks of torment permanently from the block), you’ll be able to sustain about 30 stacks of torment. With 2500 condition damage, this will do 7.7k dps on a constantly moving target.
7.7k dps is actually semi-decent from a Mesmer perspective. It’s certainly not good, but it’s not awful. Unfortunately, there are some major problems.
First, you’re not using chrono runes or any other sort of boon duration enhancer. This will ruin your quickness uptime, and that’s unacceptable. If you want to use this build, you absolutely must use chrono runes, no exceptions.
As explained, you gain haste from shattering.
Also, the build IS running boon duration in the form of Chaotic Persistence. Thats 20-30% boon and condi duration in a raid. Most likely on the high end once the ball gets rolling. Also packed 10% boon dura utility and 20% condi dura food.
Secondly, 7.7k dps is on a constantly moving target. VG is by far the most mobile boss, and it doesn’t move constantly. It stops to attack and you’re not kiting it constantly; you kite it to the edge of the next wedge and then wait there. At best, I’d estimate that it’s moving 50% of the time, dropping your dps to about 5700 on VG, lower on gorse and much lower on sabetha.
Def a good point. I knew the limitations, was mostly curious if being able to take more Sinister vs Viper like most condi builds would help offset the pve negatives of these specific condis. I appreciate you trying to run some numbers though.
Thirdly, my calculations assumed permanent alacrity. If you’re not taking improved alacrity, you most likely won’t actually have it permanently. This will not only impact your dps, but will impact the recycle time on your buffing rotation.
As explained, you gain alacrity from spamming your shatters. The build compensates not having chrono runes and improved alacrity by using F1-F5 on CD.
By not doing those things, its not even really a condi build since all those skills give alacrity, haste, tons of other boons which amp both your duras and apply both of your condis.
Ultimately, you could do this type of build as long as you used chrono runes. You would be similarly effective compared to a more standard build as long as you kept shield phantasms up for their buffing capabilities. The dps would be awful on gorse and sabetha though, and you’d have a 15-25 second buildup time of low dps every single time you did your buff rotation or a phase change happened (25 second side if you’re tanking).
Im not sure where you’re getting that buildup time from. It would take a couple seconds to constantly build up and use a shatter. Unless you’re talking about something else.
If you used chrono runes, it would defeat the point of even trying to make a condi build. Considering the flaws in the setup you tested, I’d wager at least a couple extra K in your projected dps, but I dont disagree with how well it’d perform on each boss. Appreciate the analysis.
(edited by Cbomb.4310)
The idea behind this build is to essentially do the same things a power/support PVE build does but with condi.
All utilities and OHs are the same as power build for the same reasons you take them in a power build.
Main differences are that its a clone/shatter build instead of a phant build. So instead of chrono runes you’ll get your extra haste to share from http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Seize_the_Moment
You dont need Improved Alacrity because you’re gaining lots of personal alacrity from shattering so often; therefore I take http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Illusionary_Reversion
Maim the Disillusioned and Malicious Sorcery should be obvious changes in this build.
Here is where I need input. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chaotic_Persistence in Chaos says you gain condi AND boon duration per boon you have, but I cant find it listing a cap anywhere, which means in a raid environment we’re talking 20-30% for both!
The only damaging condis in this are confusion and torment. Confusion has a caked in 33%, so I choose torment runes. That with Chaotic Persistence means we can afford to take more Sinister vs all Viper. The appropriate ratio for that I can only guess however.
I took Sigil of Malice and Sigil of Torment. Most condi builds take Geomancy or Earth but with my condi duration stacked so heavily for Torment this seemed better.
I took a combination of condi duration food and boon duration utility, both condi obvs.
This is the build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vhQQNAr+dncfCFohlfC+fCUrhlejC9G6oVwMAOtMqeUX1ZF-ThhbABl9AA9Crp8Lt9HAQJIcnEASV/hUALK3C-e
Keep in mind the updates to scepter that are not yet shown in this editor.
Not saying its better than power or anything like that. I just like making new builds.
I think the added benefit of this condi is that its not limited by condi fields like typical condis. I think it could shine on a boss that moves around a ton like VG, maybe some on Gors, prolly poor on Sab but.. most condi isnt ideal there anyway. Being a ranged weapon also has its advantages for dps uptime (ex: green circles).
Tanking gets this awesome trait http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Illusionary_Defense. Just swap out as much jewelry as you need from Sinister to Rabid (much cheaper and easier than commander stuff), and you even get a conversion from http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chaotic_Transference. Scepter 2 is also a quick block on a short CD thats a DPS inc when blocking.
Thoughts, opinions?

Best thing you can do is have several characters you can swap around with. Be flexible. Especially if youre trying to play a less desired profession.
The DPS checks on some fights are not that tight. Especially when learning encounters; having extra livability, adding group livability, or simply having ease of play can help a lot in learning before you need to worry about shaving seconds off a kill time. Once your group is farming stuff down and wanna min/max it, go for it if people have the professions avail. Its a once a week lockout and most groups will only be saving a few minutes over the course of the entire raid; not enough to get in peoples faces for playing a non-meta profession.
You can play less dps meta stuff easily but those professions still have meta builds that arent that far behind ones that are. I dont really mind the burnzerker ‘meta’ atm, but groups that insist on bringing like ~4 of’m to a Gors kill and then bragging about it should honestly be ashamed. Its like back in the day with the wall-reflect on Lupi. Not an exploit, but.. come-on.. its def a gray area. Or at least something you shouldnt brag about. If its ever nerfed some of those groups will likely have issues even getting a Gors kill because they’ve relied so heavily on something moderately broken and OP. LOL
If I could get old dungeons and old fractals back to the way they were before HoT, I’d easily trade up everything gained from this expansion.
Way it is now I log in once a week to clear a raid…
Every company has many that complain about whatever. How is what is on that website any different than what you’d find elsewhere? So based on the OP, any company that has bad reviews on there must be doing poorly?
Hmmm you might wanna check other companies in that same site, the most successful companies have up to 4.5 stars, with a 90%+ Approve of CEO/Would recommend.
That’s just one site. It’s not the definitive source on whether a company is performing poorly or not and that’s even assuming you can prove there’s a correlation between those reviews and how a company is actually performing.
Okay, but this site is undoubtedly more trustworthy than your statement.
We see there are issues with this company, they are not doing good, the community is unhappy, and judging by what I see in regards to patch content and forums i’m more inclined to believe these negative reviews than your blissful outlook.
Because a bunch of anonymous people reviewing a company are trustworthy? Whether or not I am trustworthy has absolutely nothing to do with my argument. People are more inclined to criticize than praise.
Sites like glassdoor are a great tool to see overall trends. Its not that difficult to write one or two crappy reviews, but if a company has 30 reviews and the overall tone paints the company as a hellhole, it’s something you would rather avoid.
So 30 reviews is a large enough sample size to determine whether a company is performing well or poorly?
Anything 3 or more is technically a ‘pattern’.
The more data you have that says nearly the exact same thing, the stronger that pattern is. Even the positive reviews say nearly the same issues as the negative ones.
Its not entirely a ‘yes/no’ conclusion you should get from this. Its merely a tool you should use for consideration.
…That sounds like expecting the staff to do a lot more work, in a shorter time frame, without funding for more staff.
Thats a fair statement. However I think the issue isnt as much on the common workers, but on mismanagement of them. Some of those reviews indicate massive waste of work due to lack of communication from departments and such.
Frik, I’d pay a gem paywall or something for legit content vs costumes and BLC skins. Feels like they only push that stuff so they can just barely pay off their employees who apparently are paid on the low end of the industry. If it was managed better and they focus’d more on a quality product, I dont think it’d be as necessary.
So the culprit is Mike O’Brian? Interesting…
Its not that interesting, Its been known for quite some time.
These kinds of reviews have been around pretty much.. since soon after GW2 launched. They’ve all sounded about the same; ‘management management management’.
The game in general started out as the best thing ever and since launch the direction felt like finding creative innovative new ways to make the game worse, with some few blips of success of course, but.. overall.
My own extremely minimal interaction with A.net:
I wont say when/what set, because I dont want to get anyone in trouble or somethin, but I had some new BLC weapons on a character and was showing them to a dev friend that did art from my understanding. They asked how to get them, I explained, their response ‘are you serious? thats awful’. I mean.. that could mean a lot of things, but from what Ive read and heard their art department(s) is prolly the best place to work there.
(edited by Cbomb.4310)
Honestly, especially after the reddit post yesterday, I kind of think it’s time for their management to be replaced. They are clearly not doing a good job of managing the game or the teams developing it.
They havnt been for years.
-Dungeon rewards back. Add a new dungeon path every 3 months or so, make it part of living story of something. Maybe alternate between that and a new fractal.
-Add a new raid every 6 months or so. Even if its only a couple bosses.
-Add new PvP modes. Simple/typical ones without weird cannons/vehicles or any other gimmick. I think these could be less often if the following is done:
-Separate PvP and PvE skills more often. With that make more balance passes far more often for the PvP versions to accommodate tournies and stuff before you start them.
-Actual MMR based PvP, let them queue anywhere, solo queue, spectator modes… sorry.. not a fan of sPvP in this game at all. Needs so much.
-Add more armor and weapon skins, consistently. Dosnt even have to be full sets, I’d even settle for 1 new skin obtainable outside of gemstore per massive gemstore push we get every week or two.
-If you push the open world stuff so much, we should be able to start our own megaserver shard with friends/guildies and/or reserve slots for X minutes to accommodate DCs, including remembering our involvement.
-I cant say what I think would fix WvW entirely, but I think they really just need more people. Something akin to megaservers wihout all the issues megaservers brought to PvE. Maybe for rewards somethink similar to what sPvP players get with reward tracks.
-SAB
-Document more changes when you fix stuff. Fix stuff more often. Still weirdly broken things 3 years later…
^_^
edit: I agree with the above poster. Original game was an easy 9 or 10/10. HoT actually feels like we lost content and what we have new feels like a 6 or 7/10.
(edited by Cbomb.4310)
They look cool. I like the way the dagger/key and grenade were filled in, they look like legendary effects.
I dont doubt that its not compatible with the current game, HOWEVER!
Few months ago, someone on reddit posted that they returned to the game after years having left a (think it was.. ) lvl 4 character in SAB and because of.. (again.. not sure but I think it was..) NPE they werent allowed to leave SAB and go back to Rata Sum. They were not default kicked out. They posted video and stuff of them running around in the menu area, couple of the first areas, finally died and the game wouldnt fully kill him off in there. He had to contact A.net to get the character removed.
Just made me think.. it cant be THAT badly borked up if something like this happened.
I only log on for raids.
…and thats very minimal.
I hope you guys plan to release lots more of these in a timely manner.
I already have lots of characters with full asc, tons of rare skins/legendaries and plenty of money from when the game was good. Not investing in the new legendaries because of all the bugs revolved around them atm. Bottom line, the rich are still rich. Only people really feeling the burn of these econ changes are those that didnt already have stuff and you removed ways for them to catch up.
When game first came out and I heard dungeons would scale you to their lvl, ensuring they were always relevant, I thought it was the greatest thing ever. I thought ‘in years time this game will actually have more content than WoW just because they were smart enough to keep it all relevant’. Nope! Nothing new and John Smith wrecked most of this games repeatable content. Both in the fun/reliable ratio, and for low lvl mats/gold/even gambling for ectos/forge with tokens.
Got to frac lvl 100. Rewards suck. Really badly. Because of this, was hard for my group to always have a full group, had to pug some people in higher lvls because not enough of our actual friends could afford or care enough about the AR gate only for chievs.
Tangled Depths sucks. Dont think I need to explain that anymore.
I agree about the story. I didnt ‘hate’ it, but.. everyone I did it with expected what happened to be drawn out into the next LS3 or something. It did feel rushed at the end.
Guild halls/scribe stopped being fun the day after we captured the hall with various guilds. I could fill an actual guild hall with actual crafted crumby wood furniture and pumpkins in less time. I say that with confidence as someone that is def not a carpenter.
The 2 meta events being the main way for ‘endgame progression’ ie: masteries, which require hours of taxi-gating at low graphics to minimize your odds of DC, also suck. If only there was a fun/rewarding/reliable way to get these with my friends like.. say.. new dungeons? Fail.
WvW is fail. Even less enticed to spend money on server trans than I was before. Really wish this was tied to guilds I was in or something, anything. Also, rewards still suck.
sPvP as an eSport is bad. The ranking system is awful, the game modes are boring (even more to watch); please focus more on simple/fun instead of weird gimicky maps that most hardcore pvpers in this game avoid.
Ive had plenty of friends that purchased HoT and never logged back in.
Ive also convinced a handful of friends that’ve seen me logged on during raids not to purchase HoT because I knew they’d be in the same boat.
(edited by Cbomb.4310)
its a bug with phants too.
ya.
Fix the gliding not working whenever you hit space. I’ve read all the player ‘fixes’ for this and its not good enough. Fix it, Fix it now.
K thanks
no love for thieves at all?
dont u think a power D/D, Staff or sinister condi can perform a good dps?
I did mention a ven thief as a ‘maybe’ in my bottom party, but overall no. Things that made thiefs awesome in dungeons I dont see being a thing in raids. Mainly stealth. Raw dps isnt really enough. You could maybe take one in the power group too but.. again.. its not my ideal group. People that insist on playing thieves in raids are going to get on my bad side very quickly.
I’d split groups specific to condi and power.
Power Group:
-PS Warrior
-Chrono
-Herald
-Staff Ele
-1 Other (nother staff ele, conjur temp, guardian, or reaper)
Condi Group:
-Condi Druid
-Vip/Sin Engi
-Vip/Sin Engi
(maybe another warrior/chrono depending on how well group buffs work in 10s, otherwise:)
-Nother Vip/Sin Engi
-1 Other (venom thief, burn guard, or vip/sin engi)
Lots of my friends that purchased HoT wont even log on because of dungeon/fracs being destroyed.
I’m enjoying the elite specs and parts of the new maps but.. I’m already wishing for my instanced content with groups. I cant recommend this game in good conscience. Its the most overpriced overhyped MMO expansion Ive ever seen that not only lacks major amounts of content but actually takes content away.
Do NoT Buy
I am not addressing any of the rest of your points, but I will say that John Smith was absolutely clear about the fact that it wasn’t an issue of the gold; he did outright state that it was to encourage people to move away from running dungeons.
Where is there a link to this?
And to the statement that the Dungeon team was disbanded?
The statement was actually years ago at this point. Its such common knowledge its not something you really need to cite anymore.
He was asked if it was to discourage people from doing their dungeon content, he flat out said ‘yes’.
They didnt even nerf the gold rewards properly. Should have upped item drops from the mobs/champs people skip, scaled the gold rewards based on length of dungeon, added more tokens, ANYTHING.
If all they were concerned about was the ‘gold’, there are far better ways to do this. That John Smith guy destroyed most of the repeatable content in this game. I fear for the longevity of this game once the newness of HoT wears off. Which is sad because dungeons/fractals being as old as they are were already wearing thin on so many people.
The fractal update is just as much a lie as the last one.
‘Hey guys, this is the fractal ldrbrd update, but we forgot to put in the ldrbrds’
now
‘Hey guys, this is the fractal reward update, but we forgot to put in the rewards’
really?
….actually update the fractal rewards like you promised or give us back our dungeon rewards. This one is worse because you charged us tons of money for it.I am not addressing any of the rest of your points, but I will say that John Smith was absolutely clear about the fact that it wasn’t an issue of the gold; he did outright state that it was to encourage people to move away from running dungeons.
I’m not expressing any of my personal opinions about that move, or about fractal rewards, or about the game in general, here. Just saying that they were quite clear about the primary reason for making this particular change.
Ya, I know.
I also think its awful.
The fact that they did it so badly, if anything, just proves that ‘gold inflation’ wasnt even the reason.
People usually do things for 2 reasons:
Fun and reward.
Let’s give each of them 100 points at max. That makes 200 points in total.
For dungeons you have fun factor about 70, and reward about 90, so total 160 points.
For a SW chestrun you have 100 reward and 10 fun factor, total points of 110 points.
For pvp/wvw you have 90 fun factor and 40 reward, total of 130 points. This is my personal rating. So obvious I would run dungeons, because it’s both rewarding and fun. And if I bought everything I wanted, I go for wvw/pvp for the fun factor and ok rewards.
Thats not a bad way to put it.
I honestly enjoy them more too just because its a group I make with my friends and have more control over. Now its like.. ‘hey guys.. wouldnt it be fun if we got together and did some content thats way harder and less rewarding than anything else in the game?’
They didnt even nerf the gold rewards properly. Should have upped item drops from the mobs/champs people skip, scaled the gold rewards based on length of dungeon, added more tokens, ANYTHING.

I think different fights will also benefit from different compositions. So better groups will likely have lots of characters setup for raiding right outside to swap around.
Prolly mulitple sets of ascended gear on the same characters. To swap between power/condi for example
This may leave some people that ALWAYS want to play X thing disappointed if there is only some niche uses for their prof/spec.
There will be more dps diversity, condi & power. That opens up the door for more specs/prof
There will be more group utilities added with elite specs and rev. That opens up the door for more specs/prof
Yet to be seen how much healing a druid (or whatever else) will actually be req. Doubt more than a single piece of slightly higher toughness gear will be req’d for any sort of ‘tanking’. Kinda doubt that’ll even be super important for most things.
If you realize that you are technically fighting Mordy (from the inside) at the same time everyone else is fighting him outside (Dragon Stand Meta Event) I think it makes the whole experience quite impressive.
Okay, thats makes sense. Was first time a couple of us walked into Dragon Stand but we knew there was a big meta fight over the whole zone so I was thinking THAT was Mordremoth.
But what you said makes sense. Ya, that is cool.
Just finished the story with 3 other friends. Heres my ramble…
I am openly bitter about lots of stuff in HoT, but the story basically played out like a less buggy, more full-fulling LS chapter. Few friends had some issues with the tracking Rox clues bugging out over and over again and having to restart the chapter, but overall that was the only issue that comes to mind.
Definitely was not too afraid to keep kill’n off characters all GoT-like. Friends kept joking that Marjy didnt have any spare greatswords around to keep their souls in.
All the cinematic were very trippy and there was so many of them! Did not expect it.
The ending fight kinda took us by surprise, we were just fighting shades of characters and then this guy popped out like ‘heres mordy!’ and we’re like.. wut, this is the end? But.. despite that, the fight mechanics were well done. Some people I heard had some confusions about how the wind gusts work and instantly blame bugs; but thats not the case, they just dont know how it funcs. Overall the fight was fun and I’m looking forward to doing the HM chiev version and farming out some more of those amazing armor sets.
Speaking of, the rewards were surprisingly not awful! I mean.. by GW2 standards. I got a Str Rune though so maybe Im just a little awed at my luck too :P
I think it’d be cool if there was a quest to like.. honor that dead npc and fix the sword we broke into its prev GS status?
The actual ending, very fan-service (not in the dirty way) without actually just dishonoring your well established NPC. We thought it was good.
We didnt expect it to end that soon though, we’re all kinda hyped and wondering what the LS3 is going to be now after all that. So overall well done!

Just today I had a talk with a friend who is trying to complete the gift of Pred and was short of dungeon shards but no one was doing the dungeon they needed anymore and I had to point them to attempt hours of PvP instead of a few dungeon runs.
This is incredibly sad.
Its one of the many reasons I cant take a.net ‘metric’ statements seriously.
… whoever decided to do this kitten, should be slapped whole day..
Whoever decided this was their ‘Econ Dev’, who laughs at players and makes all these wondeful choices. Blame Mr Smith
you get them in CoF farming endless mobs right?
Its their econ dev john smith. Disrespectful to players on a personal and professional lvl. Wrecked this game’s longevity.
Its that john smith guy working for anet. Econ guy’s job is basically to kitten over players and laugh about it. I mean… I assume thats in his job descrip because hes doing a very good job at it.
I would love to give him a swift kick in the baby kittens.
That econ dev they have working for them is the bloody worst. Seriously, I dont like him as a dev or a person (look up his post history back when the price of this expac was launched)
HoT is a content downgrade. If I could somehow keep pre-HoT content same as before I would be requesting a refund atm. I will not be recommending HoT to my friends.
