WTF did you do to fractals?

This wouldn’t be an issue if they didn’t kill off dungeons. We have no pick-up-and-play, exploration based instanced content anymore. And this is coming from someone who almost has all 3 sets of legendary armor. I love raids and hard content but I also love dungeons, so it’s sad to see raid-like content become the new norm for what was supposed to be the “replacement” for dungeons.

I miss trash skips, I miss long corridors, I miss many short bosses back to back with events and mobs inbetween. Now fractals are just a few bosses in a big arena with cone AoE attacks everywhere. No nuance to the fights, no interesting speed run strategies, no OOC weapon swapping or might stacking. It’s just put your buffs on, DPS and do gimicky mechanics while the boss’s overly inflated health pool slowly goes down.

If Anet wanted to kill dungeons, fine. But when you say Fractals are the new dungeons, you better start making them more like dungeons.

Sometimes when it’s not raid night, I just want to do a casual dungeon stomp and get a break from raiding, not do another mini-raid.

New Trailer for September 20 update

Chaos.5072

It is going to be rough on any one running burn as there main damage.

Hoping for a mastery or something. They can’t realistically proceed against Destroyers w/o solving the burning dps issue.

Trailer does look good. Can’t wait for next week. Bloodstone was a very cool map, but doesn’t really have much staying power.

They didn’t in GW1, you had to change your skills as they where immune to fire damage.

The flexibility of the gw1 skill system allowed for. Here it would severely hamper many eles and make Berserkers next to useless in pve. They couldnt get away with it here if we are taking on destroyers for a sustained period.

You say that like there are.no other options open to those classes, Ele have Water air and earth, warriors can focus on physical damage over condition damage. So I don’t see why they need to do anything.

But you are taking away an entire attunement (ele) and an entire elite spec (Berserker), and it for the most part, is a deduction. In GW1, not only did you have a range of viable options to choose from, you could also choose from a secondary prof which gave all sorts of other options. GW2 does not work like that so you can’t adapt as easily.

Right now, an ele can choose fire, water, air and earth. Most ele’s will rotate through through those attunements depending on the situation at hand. If Destroyers are immune to burning with no way of overcoming that with in game mechanics, all that happens is the ele essentially is only rotating through 3 attunements, since the fire attunement is largely useless without the burning condition to drive most of the dps.

You do realize fire attunment is mostly power damage right?

I think it was said somewhere that each raid (or this one at the very least) will have exactly 3 wings.

That’s like the exact opposite of what they said.

I specifically remember Crystal Reid saying that they might drop in a 1 wing raid here and there was going to be no set wing count per raid.

Chaos.5072

@Chaos.5072

You should invite me to the next raid you go into.

I’ll share with you some facts:

ArenaNet had a core philosophy. I don’t know how long you’ve been playing (maybe since launch like me) but it’s always been about having no class roles.

There is no healer, no tank, no clearly defined DPS. That means dungeons are doable with no “healer” as they don’t exist. They’re doable by whoever and whatever combination of classes want to try.

There was always only one criteria:
You have the play your build well.

That used to be the “core philosophy”.

Understanding that, we can apply it to the game’s content…

Dungeons? Check.
Fractals? Check.
Raid? No check.

Remember, their idea for the game was “allow any combination of classes to succeed, so long as they’re played well”.

Raids don’t fit that description.

There is so much wrong with this post that I don’t even know where to begin.

Yes, raids demand SOFT roles that are not locked to a specific class, so did dungeons. Don’t try to pretend for a second that dungeons and fractals didn’t have soft roles too, because they did (dps, support, control, reflects, stealth). And guess what, just like dungeons, raids can be completed with any team comp/build. It just might not be as efficient. But nothing is locking you out from playing whatever you want.

Did you not see the all necro wing 1 clear by Ren? Or the 45 min VG + 1 hour Matthias kill by SALT with all clerics tempests? What about DnT’s full ranger party comp? Or the 4 man VG kill done by qT and china? Or the full masterwork clear by IvT? Or the no armor SV clear? What about the full rev clear? 5 man gorseval? SOLO twisted castle? I could go on and on

This proves that you can run absolutely whatever you want in raids and you’ll be able to beat it,. If you want to play your special snowflake build, you can make your own group with your own requirements or join one that doesn’t care. Just know that if you do this, you’ll be less efficient than the best build out there. This is no different than it has been dungeons and fractals since launch and if you think so you’re obviously missing something.

There are no fixed class roles in this game. You can tank as any class in the game, just thrown on a toughness ring. You don’t need a healer for raids. In fact, most experienced groups bring a power dps or condi dps ranger instead of a healing druid.

Believing that GW2 somehow has a hard trinity is honestly delusional at this point. Nothing has changed since launch in regards to some build being more efficient than others, and nothing has changed to lock classes into certain roles.

Fractals are not raids. Please stop.

Where on earth did this ridiculous myth start about Anet’s “core philosophy”?

I see people saying all the time “omg raids go against the core philosophy of the game”

I don’t recall Anet ever saying they didn’t want difficult content in their game and everyone should be able to easily access every reward in the game.

In fact, I recall before launch Anet said that explorable dungeons were meant to be the most difficult content in the game for the most elite players. (granted, they became easy over time but you can clearly see where their intentions were)

Exclusive rewards have also been in the game since launch. (see dungeon currency, living world backpieces, karma armor, gift of exploration, gift of battle, ascended rings shortly after launch, etc)

Raids go against Anet “core philosophy” as much as the new living world map does.

Also there is nothing excluding people from raids other than their own choice to not do them. Don’t give me this BS about how raids somehow lock you way from doing them. Heck, they even added an LFG category for raids so there really is no excuse at this point other than sheer laziness.

The funny thing is, out of all the ways to earn masteries, raids are actually the easiest. You only have to do one single encounter of your choice, which means you can do the easiest one (escort) and never touch raids again. It’s not like you need to clear the entire raid 100 times or something.

You can’t say the same for adventures, story achievements, bosses, etc.

Man I would love to only have to do a single adventure of my choice to unlock all mastery points!

Where did this ridiculous rumor about how raids are ‘not accessible’ start?

There are literally no prerequisites or hard lockouts other than simply owning the expansion. The only thing holding players back is their own choice to not raid.

If you choose not do to something, don’t complain. Learn to adapt to the content instead of expecting ArenaNet to adapt everything to you.

If someone cares that much about experiencing the minuscule amount of irrelevant lore in the raids and they are too lazy to actually raid they can easily join a cleared instance or talk to Bennett in the new zone. Failing to do that is your own fault, not ArenaNet’s.

If you genuinely don’t understand living story because you haven’t played the raid, you might have a comprehension problem.

You don’t need to experience every single corner of lore in this game to understand living world. I doubt you’ve read every GW book, explored all of GW1 and 2, done every possible quest/mission/event as every race, read every page on the wiki, etc.

Stop complaining for the sake of complaining. It really shouldn’t be the end of the world that you missed out on an OPTIONAL side story that you could easily experience yourself through multiple means, or by utilizing one of the many built-in recap systems in the game.

I have no sympathy for anyone who is still complaining about this non-issue, especially after we’ve seen how easily the living story can stand on it’s own without the raid.

Anyone who thinks otherwise isn’t a true raider, and shouldn’t even have a say in what raids should be. ArenaNet’s main goal with raids should be to satisfy RAIDERS, not non-raiders. You guys have literally the other 98% of the game. Let us have our 3 tiny instances.

If you’re that upset that you might miss out on a tiny bit of story that has nothing to do with the living world (that you can easily get though other means, BTW) and are willing to suffocate the enjoyment of an entire sub-community just to see it, you might want to get outside and rethink your priorities.
