Found this while watching the movie “Warriors Gate.” Thought it was interesting so I decided to share it. Has anyone else ever seen anything related to GW2 like this in movies?
Ya its blurry. It’s streaming. It pops up a few other times in the movie too. There’s even a big poster.
Found another mention in the movie “Men, Women and Children”

1000 gems per cape

How much do you want capes in the game?
Will you spend 1000 gems for a Cape skin (backpiece)?

While I would like to see capes also but I’d suggest giving up on it because there are too many cape haters. They’d rather wear those wings that block everyone’s visibility plus clip everything and everyone around them because it makes them look like a peakitten strutting around in mating season. I dislike that they pair back pack wing skins with glider skins. I refuse to buy any that are paired like that.

To me any wings that aren’t in use gliding should be tucked back cape style. Expanded wings should come with a negative cost on movement while running because of increased wind resistance.

Wings and feathers are specifically built to be aerodynamic so I doubt there’s much wind resistance, either running or flying.

Wrong. Running with wings open inhibits aerodynamics. There’s a reason birds close their wings during flight when they are not gliding or flapping ; they’re open to create resistance. The only wings we have that flap are Crystalline and do not contain feathers.

A bird’s wingtip feathers must twist in one direction during the upstroke of the wings and in the other direction during the down stroke to keep the local wind striking the wing at an appropriate angle to generate lift and thrust. The aerodynamics are improved and material saved if the local flow forces twist the feather by just the right amount. We do not flap our wings.

Or they might close them when running because if they don’t they keep lifting into the air.

That’s right. Because they create resistance. You say they don’t inhibit movement but go to argue why birds tuck them in becuase of just that reason. Ooooh-kaaay.

No, resistance and lift are not the same.

You do realize don’t you that the larger flighted birds run with their wings open in order to generate enough lift to fly? Small birds running with their wings open would keep on leaving the ground with each breeze, so they close their wings to run.

The two most common factors that have a direct effect upon the amount of air resistance are the speed of the object and the cross-sectional area of the object. Ergo, both increased speeds and cross-sectional areas will result in an increased amount of air resistance.

Weight is the force of gravity. It acts in a downward direction—toward the center of the Earth.
Lift is the force that acts at a right angle to the direction of motion through the air. Lift is created by differences in air pressure.
Thrust is the force that propels a flying machine in the direction of motion. Engines produce thrust.
Drag is the force that acts opposite to the direction of motion. Drag is caused by friction and differences in air pressure.

Thus forth, the more resistance created through thrust and gravity the more resistance is applied.

You do also realize that wings are almost completely feathers, (notoriously light) plus they have light hollow bones. Wings simply don’t weigh much. Gravity isn’t going to be a major consideration of a thin, flat, extremely light, aerodynamically shaped item with how it responds to airflow across its surface.

You do realize that WINGS control feathers not the other way around. Wings don’t weigh much; that’s right. It’s the large surface area that allows them to maintain enough pressure and resistance too keep aloft. Gravity is a major consideration in everything. If it not for gravity wings wouldn’t be “thin, flat, extremely light, aerodynamically shaped item”.

Try running with a thin, light, aerodynamic structure such as a hang glider. You’ll lift off the ground even though you yourself are heavy and not built for flight.

Now try running with that same glider VERTICAL on your back, such as the wings in GW2. What happens?!?! You’re gonna take off straight up? No. You’re going to go much slower as you run forward and nothing will happen.

Just think of someone running with a hang glider. he runs, and he lifts off the ground. If there is a breeze then he will fly.

Is that person able to run at full speed or does the glider slow them down? Also, wings in GW2 are vertical when on the ground not horizontal as a glider is.

If not AFK farmers then what?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Anet has said AFK farming is completely “legal”. If you want to know how just search online. There are plenty of resources. If you want more info and to learn the bigger secrets learn to use TOR. When you can mix multi-boxing and afk farming without breaking ToS you can multiply your income drastically. Whatever time it takes you to farm one stack of a mat you could easily have 3-4 times as many. And since its very easy to have an undetectable script that can read chat whispers for key words and reply accordingly to make it appear you are not COMPLETELY afk it really makes the act questionable.

They have the deepness in the voice but some, such as farmer Simooba in Whorl Lagoon, just sound like they’ve been hit in the head by toooo many outboard motor propeller blades. Question For The Community

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chuck.8196

Chuck.8196

IMO Guild Wars 2 follows all the lore of Guild Wars and actually dives even deeper into Tyria than anything Guild Wars did. Sure, there is no GvG yet but everything else remains.

Even if it had a different name just as many people would have still left. Guild Wars ran for 7 years before GW2 released. It has a different engine and action-combat which is what set it apart and made it a great MMO. Lack of players did not drive Anet away from more GW1 content. They had a new expansion planned for GW1 but wanted different engine and decided to push for something else. Instead we got GW2. That and, well, it had its run.

Karma from Enchanted Reward Booster

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chuck.8196

Chuck.8196

This is why I’m glad and wasn’t foolish and converted everything as I expect this type of action from them. I would make Booster Packs instead. I still have about 50 Karma Boosters. You can get them from key farming though. You can also use the Candy Corn Gobbler for the boost. Candy Canes and Winter’s Blessing are also K-boosters.

You have to reach level 38 to get a karma boost as a leveling reward, so it’s not your average key run that only does the level 10 story line then deletes the char. It’d be the people that continue all the way to the level 40 story and key.

That’s right you do. I never said anything about lvl 10. There are keys at level 10,40, and 60. It’d be a waste not to continue to get more keys.

Sort of depends on what you’re wasting I guess. If you have the tomes to level to 60 then it’s not that much time. Most only do the level 10. Takes maybe 15 minutes as opposed to the time to get to 60 and also do each story section to get those keys. (And if they’re key running they’re doing the most efficient route). The average person doesn’t have the free time to repeatedly level to 60, repeatedly do the story and do everything else they want to do. It’s 15 minutes set aside for key running as compared to 2 hours.

15 minutes once every 7 days for 1 key vs 3 keys in 2 hours if you do it all at once or you can do it over the span of a week. The average person doesn’t key farm. This thread is NOT about key farming any ways. It’s about karma boosters so keep it on topic.

It’s still rather a waste time wise. It’s 2 hours of repetitious (and for many people supremely boring gameplay) in order to get one karma booster.

If karma was scarce and difficult to get I could maybe see it, but just this year by playing very casually I’ve gotten 2.5 million karma, and that’s after spending some. It’s probably a lot faster to get karma by playing on the new maps with a map karma boost that drops karma on killing mobs, karma food, a hero banner, and a guild karma boost than spending 2 hours leveling and doing the personal story for one single karma booster. Heck, do teq one time a day. That will get you around 15k karma/day if you’re so short on karma that you’re farming karma boosters.

Sort of depends if its a waste. It’s a passive reward for farming something else. OP is discussing boosters for Wintersday not year round farming.
but back to topic….

Enchanted Reward Boosters are meant to condense all the boosters we accumulate into one item to take up less space, but they don’t give the ability to select karma. I didn’t realize this way back when I made mine, and now don’t have any karma boosters. It would be really nice to have for all these Wintersday things that give lots of karma.

It really is a shame they removed them from the boosters. It was also really stupid they required 2 to make one booster which is why the main reason I never converted. On top of that you can’t use the food and utility items for their Karma bonus in the instanced activities because of the PvP map location. Wouldn’t it be great if you could revert those boosters into at least ONE Karma booster? You can’t get the normal boosters anymore so there’s not much reason why not.

Anet has to do what they can to boost sales and the best way is to lock items with only one source behind RNG. Instead of putting a definitive price on the item they can earn far more income behind a gamble. This ensures that those who want the item will spend much much more. Especially when it comes to BLC’s since the terrible changes that were made to them (reduced from 3 to 2 items). You have to buy keys for gems and gamble instead of 700 and get the guarantee..

I don’t think they should. With the current setup, if you can get lucky and keep everyone in map while the other ip’s are also full, the map will bug. This will mean no timer and you can run as much as you want. Slowly people will drop out leaving only a few people. I was lucky and ran solo for about 2.5 hours till I accidentally click “Return to Divinity’s Reach” and screwed myself over. Was able to get 3 1/2 stacks in this time. plus 30 personalized. This couldn’t happen if they reverted it.

Find a friendly guild and don’t be afraid to ask for information or help with things. Also, by typing /wiki in your chat will bring up Guild Wars 2 Wiki. This very helpful and I feel ANet does not promote it enough to new players.

Temples in Orr

The BEST solution is to put all temples, like some other maps, on a forced restart and remove the defense completely. Reset them after 2 hours or reset them at every 2-hour time stamp. The fact that a temple can be maintained more than 24-hours straight is BS. IDK how many times I’ve tried to do temple events but was unable because one person wants to defend it.

This is by far the best solution to fixing temple problems. Take the temple and after a period of time, it resets to an assault phase again. The people who under this misconception that defense has better loot is the source of toxicity in Orr. People who want to do the assault can’t because the defense is a lazy way to get loot. You just stand there and AOE.

Buffing temple defenses will kill assaults, and some temples clearly offer more loot on assault phase. Grenth and Arah being the top two. Buffing temple defenses will do nothing but cause 24 hour defends and people that need something from an assault will never get it.

i would have to agree! Misread the fist time. They could still keep defense events for those who want them but allow those who want the assault to still have access.

No collection should be behind requiring that another event fails. ANET clearly stated in the past that failing an event on purpose to farm it is considered an exploit and they don’t want people doing it. Then they went and put collection items behind these events, some which require you too do just that. When HoT was released this was a problem and they later changed some of the collection sources.

I’d say for the most part I’ve always had good CS. Whenever I’ve had to submit a ticket I would have a response by the next morning and the problems would have a solution before the day came to a close. They’ve always been polite and prompt. Though there was one case back when their servers were all having massive lag issues. I had a dye saved in my guild bank worth ~700g that got consumed because of the lag issues. I tried moving it from guild bank to inventory by dragging and it disappeared. I couldn’t figure out where it went for a while until I realized it got consumed. After much debating and arguing that it was fault to their server issues they finally sent me a new dye.

I didn’t even want the dye in my palette and told them they could remove it but they told me they weren’t going to do that. Overall, they have some of the best CS I’ve experienced.

They’ve do this a lot with their wording. On the positive side, now that you’ve noticed this type of thing, you’ll have less disappointments when you read there is something “new”.

You’ll see it when they post things with descriptions “new” or “and more”. For instance, on the news feed, they’ll say “this, this, and more now in the gem store” but what they mean is “this, this, and one other thing”. It’s rarely something new to game but a new way to access a previous item.

Allow more than 8 bags per character

Chuck.8196

I can understand feeling the need for an additional bag slot only if you weren’t already using 20-slot bags. As previously stated it’s helpful to learn inventory management. All the time you spend standing around auto-attacking: salvage, sell and deposit. If your bank is full you use or sell your mats. If you have a personal guild bank you can store anything not bound. Use vendors as much as possible when you pass by. They’re everywhere. It would help if they added an equipment panel to store one full set of gear (armor, weapons, trinkets) you can auto swap. The equipment would seem to be the largest concern. Thankfully legendaries can simply change stats.

As a note on storage I believe a much larger problem lies within bank storage and the number of account bound collectibles they award us. Three of my bank tabs are tonics, toys, and collectibles like boosters, memoirs, journals, etc. Here’s wishing they’ll give scribes the ability to discover recipes using those types items.

Ogre wars is broken, but Sergeant Neal is in the map. The problem is with Maybri being stuck. You accept her dialogue to continue the mission and it does not progress the event.

Then it appears there is something wrong on both sides. Human side requires the two NPC’s to be there to proceed and they’re never there. The charr side is getting a defend event whilst the human side is not. Seems to be the Kill ogre leaders event needs to occur to progress. There is also no Captain gregory

Let's discuss bloodstone fen

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Chuck.8196

I think the map is okay. I would like for the projectiles to be less painful when flying around on a glider though.

The bloodstone ruby cost ought to be reduced for PvE players however for the first backpack they get. 200 blood rubies is a steep cost to pay for a backpack when dailies only provide 4 ; 2 rubies from the Jade Constructs’ chest , 4 rubies from the Legendary Unbound Guardian’s chest, 1 ruby for escorting Alari Doubleblade , 3 rubies for defeating Ghostly Justiciar Hablion.

The bloodstone cost could scale up after you purchase your first one (i.e. 100 blood rubies, then 150 for 2nd , 200 for 3rd).

I mostly WvW and PvP and was able to complete the reward tracks to get the backpack (a reward track rewards 50). PvP is by far the fastest.

You also get them from mining and 3 from home instance daily

Worth buying blacklion keys?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Chuck.8196

Chuck.8196

You are still making that error. You buy gems with gold from the right column where you enter the amount of gems you want to buy and it tells you the cost in gold. The cost to buy 1575 gems from the exchange is over 600 gold. 400+ gold is what you get SELLING 1575 gems to the exchange and you have to hunt and peck to get the price just under 1575 to find out how much gold you can get.

As I said, the exchange is backwards to how most people think about exchanging X of something for Y of something.

When you travel and exchange currency you don’t ask for the cost in the local currency in your currency you ask for as much local currency you can get for a fix amount of your currency. You don’t ask to “buy” 100 Euros, you offer to “sell” $100 US dollars.

1575 gems is the 400g+ as we discussed. As i said when i started, using a CC. So the cost of gems in gold is irrelevant. You are repeating exactly what I did and are getting the same number. Where is the mistake?

Worth buying blacklion keys?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Chuck.8196

Chuck.8196

This is assuming that you buy with CC.
IMO no. Any of the costly items are quite rare. The chances are too low. If you want a Black Lion skin you are better off buying them on the TP. I don’t fall for their “discounts”. Their promo is 25@1575 gems. Those same gems will sell back for 600g+. That’s about 3 skins, or6 Bloodstone Skins. This goes the same for the nodes. Iron Node (most expensive) has a buy of 501g leaving you with an extra 100g+. . If you’re lucky you may get 2 full tickets plus a few scraps.
The promotions have all been garbage considering its an Anniversary Sale. The only thing that has been worth purchasing has been the 3 bag upgrade for 400gem.

Everyone keeps confusing the exchange since they “fixed” it from where it was when the game launched. Left hand side is exchanging gems for gold (you ask for the cost of gems for X gold) and the right hand side is exchanging gold for gems (you ask for the cost of gold for X gems).

At this time 1575 gems will cost you nearly 620 gold while buying 421 gold will cost you 1573 gems.

It’s one of those little annoying things like confusing revenue with profit that will get me to post.

ya sorry i asked a guildy to check for me as I wasnt on . They didn’t read it right.
I checked my self. Its actually only about 421g ,but it keeps changing, which is still more than enough for multiple skins. But everything still applies. Costs well outweigh the value of what you’d receive before obtaining a contract.

If there’s nothing to use it for do what I do and store it in your bank. Perhaps, in the future, they will update the gift? I haven’t read if they say would NOT do that but I may be wrong. in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I wouldn’t say “hate” but I’ve been unmotivated to play for month+. Before I would take brakes but would still usually manage to get my dailies completed. Now I can’t even bother. I get most of my log-in rewards but not all. After completing 2 of the new legendaries I’m burnt out. If I was rewarded map currency for event completion instead of “map participation %” I probably wouldn’t be as bored. A lot of time is spent standing around waiting. For example TD can reach 100% very quickly (usually <30mins) which leaves 1.5 hours of nothing. There’s plenty of events but no reward. So it’s either switch maps and lose all participation or be bored and when you’re grinding for sparks map swapping is the last thing you want to do. I miss dungeons.
