Congrats to you. I have 1.5 million so I am not in any desperate need either right now, but new players are still joining this game.
I don’t mind the karma removal from failed events, but I do feel karma was one of the few things that just came naturally by playing the game. I liked that. It was something that you wouldn’t get over night but something that you would accumulate over time.
With the changes, I think anyone new at the game that desires ascended weapons or a legendary weapon are forced to specifically grind for karma.I have said it before but I´ll say it again: There is enough things in this game that feels a bit (too) grindy atm. I don’t see why karma should be added to them.
Because karma is a good method to quantify general effort.
Gold doesn’t represent effort. It can be earned all sorts of different ways, grinding, buying, market-milking, or getting a stupid lucky precursor drop. Tokens are specific to one section of content.
In other words It’s perfect for the grind
When you’re thinking “accumulate over time” you mean laurels. That’s the currency that just rolls in for doing dailies. There’s no need for a green and pink flavor of the same thing.
Great points.
Gold is not equitable as it can be bought through real life cash. I agree that Karma should be lessened and reformed so that it reflects real contribution to effort in game.
I still get Karma just by running from point A to B without ever participating in events just passing through.
I have over a million and I don’t have the cash nor the time to use them to craft greater gear.
I think the Karma grievance only affects players who want the gear immediately.
I agree with the thread starter.
With real time work + overtime. Even other members of my family can’t keep up with a 2 week Living Story turnover time.
I say at least make Living Story = 1 month.
Please just help out those people who obviously need help in navigating dungeons.
I’ve seen people just ask “so are you coming along” when obviously the players are having a hard time getting into an advanced position.
Please keep that voteout feature alive if you want more control make it a requirement for people to be together in certain areas before proceeding.
The answer is no.
Whatever your gaming rig is (laptop or desktop) just make sure it is adequately ventilated.
Just a hint based on personal experience: buy a laptop cooler that sucks air from underneath not the models that blows air to the laptop.
We have a biannual cleaning cycle and our office (and personal) laptops that use the former has less dust/dirt in the cooling fan.
(Edit: former not latter)
(edited by Corvi.3278)
Yes this is defective hardware or insufficient cooling which can happen if you use your laptop in a manner that prevents proper airflow.
Get a cooling system that sucks air from the laptop rather than blowing air into it.
Kuunkulta – I also want to clear something up that may be confusing.
Some folks will tell you that the reason you are having issues is that the game is ‘too cpu-bound’. This is misleading when the real problem seems to be that the game does not know how to make proper use of said CPUs.
I agree. Saying the game is “CPU-bound” or “CPU-inclined” is a funny excuse.
I love Guildwars (1 and 2) and I am sure they will do something about it in the near future.
Test this:
1. Organize a minimum 30 guild members in a certain area.
2. Have them stand without doing anything.
3. Record FPS.
4. Ask them to spam their most eye popping/graphics heavy skills.
5. Record FPS.
This is the problem with the dragons right now. It is very difficult to move when all the graphical representations are splashed all around you. I guess Anet can start with simplifying skill effects.
Before any major upgrades or expansions Arenanet please optimize the game for performance please.
:)
My mistake. the announcement was “through February 26” not “until” (based on login news).
It means the service should still be available. But if not, bye bye Charr bag. :p
Advise please.
Aiming for the last day (saving for the gold) to buy a slot but after the patch the discount tag disappeared. The announcement says until February 26.
Finally got some gold to buy another bank slot only to find out it is not on sale anymore.
The normal way and is always ease the 2nd time around is:
1) Everybody grab a barrel and drop them near the primary mansion building.
2) All run back and grab a barrel. Go to the circles near the gate and do not drop barrel until your avatar is in the circle.
In my own honest opinion I agree with you.
WvW is clearly the future and it needs a lot of polishing. Also it could be extended to involve “controlled PvP population” in certain areas.
Also PvP looks like a subsystem within GW2 and could be extended independently.
Uhmm…
Is it a problem if your statistics (supposedly by definition with basis) is guesswork?
1. I think there is a rune that puts you into vapor form when you reach 10% life. I may be wrong.
2. Possibly the golemancer rune? I think it can spawn a golem sometimes.
3. Click a person, click open the party invite thing, it’ll automatically put them in there (it’ll just say the server name, then invade/defender, but it’s the person you clicked) then press invite. I dont know how/why you’d report this.
EDIT
#2
Superior rune of vampirism
You become mist when below 10% health. (cooldown: 60s)#3
Superior rune of the Golemancer
5% chance to summon a golem. (cooldown: 90s)http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rune_of_the_Golemancer

Nice one!
The MF divided among party members has its own problems as well, which others has discussed before.
What, who, where?
I have yet to see anyone commenting on that suggestion except you. It’s not even that I disagree with the problems, I haven’t seen anyone mention them.
I have a few times.
I play easy content with magic find in the easy stuff because I don’t need stats to survive, and hence, am using gear that allows my higher skill to receive higher reward. I don’t want to see my rewards reduced because I’m carrying a bunch of people who either can’t, or won’t, run with magic find.
And yes, this means I would happily run AC, CM, fractals level 10-16 or so, in a party of people all wearing exotic MF gear. I already run in pug’s all the time consisting of inexperience peopled, people in non-exotic gear, people not built for raw dps, etc., so it’s not like I expect everyone to be built precisely the way they would need to be to minimize how long an AC run or whatever could take. More than that, even if they were, we’re only going to save a minute or two of real time. Trying for perfect would be way too much hassle for such a tiny return.
If you want to replace MF gear with something else, make sure that something else still provides higher rewards for higher skill and/or contribution. For example, a system that provided a reward buff on dungeon completion to the people who provided above average DPS, boons, healing, etc. For example, if you do 10% more DPS than the party average, you get 10% more gold and tokens when the dungeon is completed. By making sure to include more than just DPS, you can be sure that most good players will find a niche where they’ll get their reward buffs in pretty much every group they run with.
Very nice suggestion.
But I hope it is not exotics at once as it would flood the market with supply. But the leading contributor will “get more” chances to better loot.
This thread is in itself a proof that MF gear is a bad thing: It is splitting people
And even worse, it goes against A-nets design goal: that a game should be played to have fun, not be played “to prepare to have fun”.
For a lot of people, MF gear creates an eternal farming circle of preparing for something. Because why would you wear the “hard earned” gear (for your build) that was the very goal of your farming when you can farm much more wearing MF?
Result: Farming, i.e. “preparing to have fun”, becomes a goal in itself.
Bad design.What is good gameplay?
1. Ban people lower than level 80 in dungeons that by design allows lower levels? Because they slow the group?
2. Ban people with MF gear (not considering higher level armor such as rare or exotics) but allow normal gear? Or since normal gear is bad enough accept only those with yellows and oranges?
3. Pretend that food and potions does not exist? What if the avatar is wearing MF gear with those uber upgrades/buffs?
4. Have good “non-evil” gear but slacking in gameplay? I’ve seen people do lazy runs not using all skills and that is a greater factor than MF. Especially for tough bosses I see only auto-attack when that happens I remind the group in chat.Solution: Create a guild that caters to the absolute rule of you own self-righteous standard of gear usage and avoid that kind of preaching/debate in map chat or local chat.
Nearly all exaggerated straw man arguments, no one is calling for anyone or anything to be “banned” if it doesn’t exist then drop rates increase across the board, that’s the only way we walk away from the MF debate happy.
Really? Strawman even after pointing out cherry picking, hasty generalization, and making judgement without considering prior probabilities?
Well you only have to read back to see how people will “rudely remove” MF people in a party. And after that post where some will quit just because partymates are on MF food.
Reason I hate MF is people dont know when to use it, and when not. Just did lvl 30 daily and we wiped on valcano end boss (mainly because guard didnt know what a shield was) but after several attempts I look at the team and 3 of the 4 pugs still have MF nurishment. At that point i gave up!.
Really? Why disregard other factors (gameplay, food, potions, guild buffs, armor types, etc…) into the final equation? :p Seriously, formal argumentation accusation and sarcasm in an Internet game forum? Hellkaiser.6025 just relax dude.
SOLUTION: Create a guild/fellowship that caters to your own very strict armor requirements. Do that but don’t preach, bully nor force people in public game chat.
Also be aware of dungeon mechanics as even with “non-evil armor” there are countless of party wipes.
Having MF gear is like buying 2 lottery tickets (or more) instead of one.
I’ve been kicked before, literally for playing a class better than someone else. That was literally the reason they gave. Why?…because I managed to solo the shiverpeak/dragonseeker’s bonfire and elemental, and also because I managed to solo the underwater fractal boss down to 50% HP before the rest of the team got through the dark room.
I did the same thing the OP did, reported the two guildies under “scamming”…so, there does need to be a better option. Oh, and I had to go a roundabout way to get their names right because when you are kicked, it immediately loads you into a different map AND clears your party chat log.
Hmmm you were kicked out by fellow guildies?
I would call reward for gameplay, your gameplay, the ideal for a daily achievement. Why they would move from the ideal is beyond me.
That’s how the daily achievements still work. The difference being that people complaining right now are those whose gameplay followed the old dailies, while people who are not complaining are those who enjoy the new dailies more.
The entire flaw in the reasoning here is that a player is forced to get dailies each day. That’s the wrong point of view. People should think that they can play normally, and some days the changing dailies will reward their playstyle, despite how in other days it won’t.
So instead of complaining with something like “OMG, I have crafting, please remove crafting from the daily!”, players should think “a crafting daily… I’ll skip this one, but people who craft every day will surely like it. Maybe tomorrow I’ll get my daily”.
Players are not game designers (almost always). Players cannot think outside of what is good for each of them. Players cannot see the forest instead of looking at each individual tree. The current daily system is an improvement over the old one, and it would be foolish of ArenaNet to go back to how it was.
I agree, you are never forced you can choose to ignore the dailies.
Yup it is zero now. Thank you for the players you were able to discover the bug.
Is crafting part of the dailies now? It is not listed in the dailies slot.
The dailies change every day. It’s random what we’ll get each day.
The crafting one was so easy to do though as you only had to refine 10 things. So a lvl 1 crafter could simply refine some copper ore and be done in less than 10 seconds.
Not even close to as big a deal as some were trying to make it out to be here.
Thank you very much!
Is crafting part of the dailies now? It is not listed in the dailies slot.
Guys was the crafting dailies removed? If not how or where can I see the progress indicator?
unless you guys are hardcore WvW you can now use guesting.
also, 1800 gems isn’t that high. Should be around 20 gold.
It’s meant to make you choose your server carefully. Is this part a joke?
Last I checked(yesterday) 200 gems was ~4g. That’s more like 36 gold.
As for OP: have you played other MMOs before? Just because this game doesn’t have a sub doesn’t mean things will be “less” than in other MMOs. WoW AFAIR costs $20 to move servers, $20 to change appearance, $20 to change race, etc.
It costs like ~7-8g($4.50) to change appearance in GW2. Who should be complaining again?
I agree, it is far from highway robbery. And we need something to stop the massive transfer of people/guilds so that they can have “bettter” WvW coverage.

Mistymountains so if a person runs his avatar in MF gear with
1. Exotic lineup
2. Highest +damage potion
3. High +whatever food
That would be ok with you?
The thing here is in dungeons I’ve seen people with “non-evil gear” but would only press 1 (auto-attack to boot)/ or baby cried/ or husband called/ or on the phone etc…
That is why that straight math doesn’t work because of additional in-game variables that they didn’t consider and extra-game circumstances which more-often that not defines the contribution of an individual player.
i didn’t say it is the root. i said it is an evil stat, which i mean it is worse than bad. because of the deplorable ideas that are attached to it.
do you want your kids to play a game that tells you that it’s ok to take advantage of peoples effort to advance your own selfish gains? you gotta teach them kids some values, dude.
This is, fundamentally, a conversation about a couple extra minutes in a dungeon versus a couple extra rare drops, in a game we play with our free time and with our disposable income.
which is in black and white is like this
1.) you sacrifice important stats like critical damage and toughness in favor of magic find, a stat that increases your drops
2.) critical damage increases your dps which means less time to kill a target. toughness helps your survivability which make you deal the dps that is needed. magic find increases your drops and doesn’t do anything to alter your dps.
3.) if you have higher/constant source of DPS, it will entail that you finish the map faster, thus saving time.
4.) MF users are aware that these numbers that help the DPS of a team are absent and chose to have the rare drops instead.
5.) in a party of 5 with 4 non mf users, the mf user chose to have rare drops instead instead of equipping something that helps the total dps of the team.
6.) 4 non mf users performing their full potential and getting average drops while the mf user underperforming because of the lack of stats and getting the rare dropsWhich when translated to common speak, the mf user “punishes his team mates for him to get the good stuffs” and “consciously underperforms but getting rewarded the most.”
it’s called “implications.”
Maybe “unnecessary complications.” :p
1. You are not getting people on food or lesser food? (+60 or +small number condition damage)
2. Are you exclusively getting only level 80? (so what happened to harmonious game play when the lore and circumstance allows 1/2 the level you are in)
3. What about potions? So you are going to choose those who can afford the +10?
Elitist? :p
LOL at thread.
For AC you are exclusively getting:
1. only level 80 ?
2. non-MF armor? (how about Masterwork or lesser armor)
Now what about potions +10% damage or food? +60 Condition Damage. But wait he is on MF and/or not level 80. The argument is useless the minute you get people with elite gear and exclusive level 80s. Selfish? Seriously…
Very well said Jazhara Knightmage and CptBadger.
Solarnova are you an Intel salesman? :p
@Essence Snow:
The difference between me running my MF warrior in AC using MF gear and zerker is maybe 2-3 minutes off the run time. Average players are already overkill for AC’s difficulty and you don’t get linear returns as you push farther and farther into that overkill zone. If it was graphed stats versus run time, the graph would definitely start to flatten out long before we get to explorer’s/knight’s gear, let alone zerker.
One bad spawn of extra graveling scavengers costs more than 5 minutes.
Deltha bugging and needing to be lured to her death can cost an entire dungeon run up to that point if she doesn’t unbug.
A graveling scavenger deciding to nom on Hodgkins rather than the player guarding him can force a reset that costs 5 or more minutes.
Kholer being spawned with a pair of elementalists versus a pair of warriors can double the time it takes to kill him because he’s really good at tanking for them, and they hit hard and have AoE’s.
One or two sub 80 teammates costs more than 5 minutes.
One guy needing to go afk because his dog is about to piddle on the carpet is 2-3 minutes.
One gal needing to go afk because she’s about to piddle on the carpet is 5 or so minutes.
So many things cost more time than I could possibly make up by switching to zerker gear, and many of them are completely beyond the control of the players.
Every one of those are external factors that have nothing to with stats. The whole deal with MF is stats. If you’d put into a simulator 2 runs with everything identical except MF, will there be a difference? Yes, there would be…that’s it…..there’s the debate…no if, ands, or buts about it. It’s yes/no, black/white, 0/1, heaven/hell…etc etc. Trying to throw in all shades of grey will not change that at it’s core it’s a yes/no issue.
Does it make a difference? Yes…no matter the amount of difference , it does make a difference. The issue revolves around not how much of a difference it makes, but that it does.
The problem is playing the game is not just about stats and that is why Xavori is right on the spot. Well unless you want to play it with pen, paper, and calculator (where stats rule). Why look at things in a single dimension when “the game” is multidimensional. :p
I don’t hate it and it would be an okay mechanic if it actually delivered. In my experience it doesn’t and therefore it’s pretty pointless overall.
LOL
My avatar is on MF upgrades but I only had 2 exotic drops in a period of about 4 months. So don’t be upset that people use them, for all its worth – it is probably an effective placebo that makes players have a positive vibe.
We are talking about Arenanet with their excellent dev team Direct X v11 update isn’t an insurmountable task.
And I agree about the positive things the two above pointed about Direct X 11. In some tests (Bing or Google it) direct API replacement (for just newer version of same/similar API call) is way faster because of the optimizations therein.
They said that the server went down and are looking into it. Like all professional companies though, you have to get your news first from social networking sites like twitter… I mean… come on…. these are the OFFICIAL FORUMS, can we at least get first dibs on juicy info?
I agree!
Anet please use your official websites and not Twitter or any other 3rd party services. In some circumstances these social networking sites are blocked.
Again: Why the KITTENING KITTEN is vital information being relayed on third party sites and not on the KITTEN official page?
I agree ANET should use their own websites as Twitter is sometimes blocked in some circumstances.
Welcome new players!
I have Guild Wars 1 and together with Guild Wars 2 – two games that are in a class on their own. Easy to learn, play, and maintain (my complaints are mainly about lag – which I am very hopeful will be fixed).
I hope to see your avatars around.
Whoa.
Crafting provides generous experience. Personal story = XP + items.
The crowd is great around Divinity’s Reach and Hoebrak (events) except of course for the persistent lonewolf who even declares themselves on map chat. Get a group, form a party.
LOL at thread.
Just like what Norns says “I hate weakness.” :p
Guildwars 1 and 2 are the easiest to play with and the most benevolent to beginners in gaming (and I began playing with Ultima). This is more likely a personal issue because “he has done everything at around 25% map completion across many level 80 avatars”.

Its engine problems and server, not client.. i thought people understood that.
the culling is engine base code
I had ALL your problems and were running at 30+ fps at ultra settings
you are the 1st that really knows about what i`m speaking..
This has been discussed many times in the tech section wherein the proposed solution is “to get a supercomputer”. LOL
But the true solution is to optimize the code – any computer (super or whatever) will simply be brought down by problematic instruction sets.
Mine runs the game just fine and do you really think they will optimize the code?
If they do optimize the code what would be a realistic performance increase 20%
That means if you get 15FPS right now in big WVW zergs you would jump up to 18.
Only Arenanet can answer if they will do it. 20% can’t be really sure because optimization can sometimes exceed 100% improvement.
I hope they will do it though, they are Arenanet afterall.

Just as there are many Eyes of Zhaitan, there are multiple Mouths of Zhaitan (I cannot see how there are only two Mouths of Zhaitan, tbh). The Mouths of Zhaitan serve as a means for Zhaitan to continuously consume magic in multiple locations, without having to go to the buffet himself (or as others said, wait on minions bringing them to him). Also, can you imagine something as huge as Zhaitan trying to pick up a human-sized chalice or some such?
Smaug was able to account for all his treasures – I wonder how?
I’m loving the customer service in this thread. It’s kinda like they made this thread to try and get everybody to post in it and not spam the tech board; then proceed to ignore it for the past 4 months. I can’t believe the only post in this entire thread from an Anet employee is in the first one. And they want our money…. lol
haha.
We love Guild Wars 1 that’s why we’re here. I hope Anet is not doing what you are saying. :p
Just tried a Straits of Devastation northern route event. We were just three in a party in there came in a 7 second delay (chat was still a-OK LOL) game lag. Sigh…
The event involves lots of Risen, but this was never an issue before.
After last update I started to get some lag.
I don’t know how to Arena Net divides their IPs and servers, but i got lag on gameplay – using skills, changing weapons… but not on chat system.
I tested on maps: no lag even if i have more plp with me.
Inside Sorrows Embrace lag alone or with plp – chat still working fine.
At WvWvW : lag on skills and no lag on guild chat…I got some IPs: address while i was at Dungeon:
64.25.33.89 – established – no ping 100% loss
64.25.38.72 – established – no ping 100% loss
64.25.40.117 – established – ping with 300ms average
Ping statistics for 64.25.40.117:
Packets: Sent = 1669, Received = 1666, Lost = 3 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 228ms, Maximum = 534ms, Average = 300msI’m checking with ISP if there is any problem reaching this network: 65.25.40 and 65.25.38,
Is there any thing that i can check on game since some places doesn’t show lag?
I can confirm when there is significant lag (1-5 second delay) chat is still working fine. LOL
You can even tell your guild or party that you are lagging at realtime. :p Chat servers ok, game servers not ok.
The improvement when Wintersday was taken out made solo PvE playable.
Got into a dragon fight event early this morning at Sparkfly Fen and with only 12 players around (probably even less) the event was very laggy. Seeing that, I did not bother to test WvW anymore.
Played some dynamic events and when passing through a portal the game got disconnected. :p
At least it is playable now.
News Flash:
After Winterstay taken out PvE areas is now playable I can do resource gathering now.
Will post updates about events and WvW later. This proves that the claim “your ISP is the problem” is not entirely true.
The FX 8350 would do , but u wont be able to get a constant 30+fps everywhere ..like LA and especialy WvW ..even if u OC.
You really should consider Intel, they have much stronger single thread processing power atm, and the 3570k isn’t really all THAT expensive all things considered.
We also have a discussion here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Anet/first#post1114560.
I think the answer is that the Guild Wars 2 game engine is the problem. Seriously, don’t blame the CPU when optimization is the job of the developers – especially if Guild Wars 2 is only the exception to the general rule.
Link is not accessible.
I can confirm that the link disappeared as to the reason “why” – I don’t know.
Im not here to discuss whether GW2 game engine is borked., im just letting the OP know what the ‘player’,not Anet, can do with his/her rig to get around the performance issues. Currently the only way around it is to have a good single thread performing cpu, and that only leaves u with the choice of 2nd/3rd gen Intel i5’s or better.
I am sorry sir, but I just think there plenty of hidden elements so we (players) can only do so much. Bugs and unoptimized code are areas that can hog even the best rigs.
Please look at this discussion: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Will-this-game-ever-be-optimized/first#post1120430. Powerful single thread CPU and yet there is still a problem.
