Um like I won’t be buying it. Oh look more gated mastery garbage. I’ll pass. I haven’t bothered with all the HoT mastery gates already because frankly its a chore and a bore. So my toon is at +33 and maxed xp for the bar.

I simply don’t care. And the game has really poor balance where its just a face roll DPS race as the damage you receive in PVE is so out of control that nothing short of a dodge roll matters for mitigation. So Vitality and Toughness are just worthless stats overall.

Likewise to healing builds, you cant heal dead and thats what most people are if a mob so much at looks at them the wrong way. Overall this is one of the most dumbed down MMOs I have played.

Fantastic artwork, but the obvious gates on content and poor balance rob this game of what makes a MMO great.

Condition Builds has ruined this game for me

The real problem with this game is it is plain shallow. DPS builds are ridiculously overpowered to the point they make anything other than glass cannon DPS less than ideal. This showcases how poorly this game has catered to the kitten DPS crowd to the point where anything other than pure DPS is not “meta”.

So this all renders half the armor in this game pointless, and 3/4 of the possible builds pointless. At what point does ANET take a step back and realize the DPS is out of control in this game. I for one am tired of some no skill elementalist in pure DPS gear and the cookie cutter META build running into mobs and melting them all in 2 seconds when I run dungeons.

You know its not “elite” or hard to create a OP’ed DPS build in this game. I think some people like to mistake doing this as actually being “elite”. This has got to be the most dumbed down game I have ever played. What on the surface looks like a deep game with a ton of different play options and roles is actually just a facade, because unless you are pure DPS with pure DPS builds you are a “detriment” to the group.

GW2 is an example of what not to do. I will not be purchasing GW3.

A Fix to Fractals and Other Dungeons

This is exactly what I was thinking, if lower tiered people complete higher tiered fractals they should get rewards for their highest tier attained and get a +1 to their tier level at the end of the run.

I think this should extend from 1 to 50 for that matter. I am not getting what the tiered system is actually doing???? The increased difficulty should offset the increased loot…if its not then there is your problem right there.

I cant see how ANET can invest millions in developing content and make such obvious and stupid design decisions. These are the types of things that I wager 7 out of 10 of your playerbase would tell you it would not work on paper…without play testing. Seriously you guys have problems with your dungeon team.

Fractals are technically sound, great graphics..polish is right on. The annoying one shotting mechanics toned down, CC is not overwhelming. A lot of improvement, but then why o why did you make it a tiered dungeon? If not why did you not figure out right away that people would be driven apart.

We have an absurd situation now where everyone is standing around LFG for the same dungeon but unable to join up with one another.

its because ANET has a desire to implement a iberzerker nerf…and so they are just stretching it out for a bit hoping you forget, then maybe restore 70% of what it was with a “bug fix”….and then you will thank them for the 30% damage nerf.

Great strategy really. Its obvious by now they could have gotten the damage consistent with how it was pre patch…if they wanted to..they just dont want to.

My two cents.

This is one of those things that just make you wonder about the competence of ANET in general. As soon as i heard about the system and the way it works I immediately thought about how would they handle the tiered progression.

And immediately I game played the scenario in my head where it was unlimited or severely stratified. And immediately I thought about how that would suck very bad, seeing as you would have people with all different levels of completion not able to group. And this is without even logging into to the game.

So question…am I a genius? I don’t think so, so if I can figure this out like in a split second…why? my god why can’t ANET see this throughout A) the planning phase the development phase and C) the play testing phase? There is something seriously wrong with ANET’s dungeon team.

The dungeons and the whole design philopsophy are filled with WTF moments. Seriously we are talking about million dollar investments, this stuff should not be happening. ANET has serious issues with its content team…really really bad. I mean the FOTM dungeons are the best that ANET has done yet….they still are a bore spamfest to some extent due to the lack of class roles and battle structure/strategy, but yet the quality and the annoying one shotting, and cheap mechanics are not nearly as bad.

So they did take some of the complaints and fix a lot of stuff, but then they make this bonehead move…and its consistent with all the other WTF bonehead moves….ANET if you are listening, I would let anyone play at higher levels….the tradeoff should be its harder to run….thats it…..there is no need to make people climb the tiers like that.

Um that is why the Chaos Storm nerf seemed so ridiculous. It was the only targetable AOE we had, and its not all that powerful…and the cool down pre nerf was perfect…and that kinda…almost made up for mesmer weak AOE overall.

Some of these thoughtless nerfs create more problems, like now we have almost no AOE ability at all if chaos storm was on its old cool down it would almost make this situation no nearly as bad. Poorly thought out nerfs will be the death of this game yet.

I have to say this has sealed the deal for me as well. I really was quite put off with the quality of the dungeon content, and then the first mesmer nerfs making chaos storm a pain to wait to use…and now this.

The GS Izerker nerf is the last straw, and what is more ANet isn’t done, anytime anyone even hints at something they don’t like about mesmers there will be even more nerfs. The mesmer is not powerful in PVE. In fact I really hope people don’t catch on just how little damage I do sometimes.

The izerker never did too much damage, and it was like one of the only AOE attacks that we had. Other classes can hit for more damage more often and without having to rely on clunky mechanics like mesmers do. I am not sure who is in charge of doing clas balance but they are the ones who are truly unbalanced. This game is being managed by a bunch of amatuers.

Healing Mesmer viable? Sure is!

I tried the healing mesmer build and I think it flat out sucks. I had a complete set of healing gear all runed up and its just not worth it. The heals you can pull off are so minimal as to be useless. Not to mention mantras are a pain to keep using.

Much better to go tanky with illusions and spawn them over and over and let them take hits…you mitigate much more damage that way. I’d like to see this build work, but honestly its pretty poor imo. Just like the regen from the phantasms is almost not worth it. Having to be so close to them hurts it and it ticks so very infrequently its pointless.

If they nerf mesmer again in PVE screw I am done with this game. The CD on Chaos Storm for the staff has made playing a staff mesmer just a lot of auto attack. Kinda getting sick of this already.

Portal I don’t care about, its basically a PVP skill.

Memser stil has a lot of damage mitigation passives. Like 9% reduced damage and the idefender + all of the evasion abilities like with the sword.

So a straight up comparison based on stats is like only half the story. I am sure warriors have some nifty damage mitigation abilities themselves.

Yes, dungeons are horrible in this game.

Just because with hard work and a great group you can learn to get on farm mode in these dungeons does not mean that they are well design or fun. They are not.

Anet has the numbers and I’m sure there is a large large problem with dungeon participation.

You think months from now anyone is going to bother with dungeons?

I literally force myself to try and group…but I rarely if ever get any real satisfaction from grouping like I do in other games. There is hardly any teamwork or group dynamics present. In other games when you are in a good group who is working together you get that feeling like hell yeah we are getting this done, a sense of teamwork. In this game people will zerg run through content and wont even bother to revive downed people who get left behind.

I don’t even think its fair to compare dungeon content in this game to other games they are two totally different gameplay experiences.

GW 2 dungeons are definitely the worst of any MMO I can remember. I think it boils down to a few things really.

1) Long term hardcore WoW raider experience was utilized to create the dungeons. So the AOEs, the boss attacks are all like end game raid mechanics. They one shot you or disolve your HP bar in a second. Just did TA explore and boy did the worm boss just suck. It is not that the content is not doable, it is just that its cheap and totally unfun. Having a plant spawn and do AOE poison puff that kills me in a second is garbage. And the pure volume of these AOE clouds and boss red circles make the game more about staring at the ground then strategizing your next round of attacks.

2) They removed the tank, DPS, support from the game. Probably the stupidest move I have ever seen happen. The game plays like WoW without a tank or healer, mobs just run all over the place and people are kiting for their lives. Utter chaos and it removes so much strategy and planning from the game. Its a mindless zergfest now. Having those intricate class roles and creating a viable team was a lot of what makes MMOs engrossing when grouping. Its like a football team with nothing but running backs, and no playbooks, and no designated player positions.

3) And I guess more of an offshoot of number 2, the dungeons are still copying the WoW model or typical MMO dungeon design. But in those games you have support, tank, and DPS roles. So we are playing dungeons that feel like we ought to have designated roles but we don’t. So its a lot of dying, a lot of annoying kiting, and the dungeons are tuned down just enough to make it viable. But the gameplay is horrible, no one wants to run around and kite as a melee character.

Also this game has that really uninspiring Korean MMO feel to it. The levelling in the beginning is so grindy, the mindlessly copied one shotting from other games end game raid content, the absurd implementation of a no class system. It all feels very Korean MMO to me. I have always thought that MMOs from Korea lack originality and tend to totally miss what makes a game fun or not, they simply copy X and Y from successful games like its a formula you can just reproduce.

As in most Korean games the artowrk and polish are top notch, but they really dont seem to get what makes RPGs and MMOs fun in my opinion.

I agree 100% dungeon play in this game feels exactly like WoW when the tank dies. Its that really good gameplay? Not really…running around like an underpowered coward exploiting poor AI pathing to stay alive flat out sucks and does not make me feel very powerful whatsoever.

I have to kinda laugh at people saying you just need to dodge. It is not like they are always isolated and by themselves. Often you have a ton of mobs chasing people around as everyone is kiting frantically trying to remove the condition spam that is in this game.

Add to this the generous amounts of spell effects and explosions, and the random targeting of mobs….its really easy to get hit by the leap. And its a one shot kill everytime. This is bad game design and is why GW 2 dungeons are becoming well known as some of the worst dungeon content in any serious MMO. One shotting trash mobs ought to be removed, or at the very least a friend damging them should stop them from continuing to chew people up.

Any ways wasted words I am sure, the devs have shown not even the slightest ability to understand how poor these mechanics are. And at this point its not even about difficulty its simply enraging and annoying to suffer a repair bill due to random targeting and mob/spell effect spam.

yea the non stop PVP nerfest, why o why did they not separate the skills for PVP and PVE? Its why we are stuck with lackluster PVP skills in PVE.

Its not about difficulty its about the gameplay that is forced on you. Everyone has to kite the whole time, you don’t get to stand your ground and fight. Even if you spec for it. You can’t heal teamates to save them from an untimely death, heals are a slight tickle in this game. You can’t CC enemies, your CCs are on long timers and are ultra short in effect.

I swear this game feels like 90% of the time I am kiting and auto attacking waiting on cooldowns, and trying to avoid the plethora of one shotting or CC to death abilities. I just get this krappy feeling after every dungeon, because the dungeons make your character seem very weak.

I agree leveling is too slow. Makes me avoid playing alts. Its so boring to solo level and it takes forever in this game. If I could somehow quickly get to evel 35 where I can run dungeons then this game would be much much better,

Dude I agree wholeheartedly. The one shotting or near one shotting has to go. A trash mob hits me for more than I can heal with my heal skill on a long cool down timer. I am tired of kiting overpowered trash mobs…so sick of it. You cant CC them I mean you get a CC for one second on a 45 second timer or something, cant tank them, cant heal other people….all people do is run around and kite and try and “dodge” the one shotting if they can even see the animation for it.

People running around kiting and getting downed over and over….people trying to kite to ninja rez the downed…..bloody havoc and chaos. Its a real mess atm.

Someone summed it up perfectly, dungeons in GW 2 are like what happens in WoW when the tank dies….only its PERMANENT!

Yeah you went for absolute maximized phantasm DPS, you will be squashy…..and you need to think about what you will do against big mobs who take out your phantams a lot. Or AOE. Its a good build it just lacks versatility.

Nothing to impressive here, probably a similar build(or the exact one) floating around somewhere. But I just wanted to post it because its been really good to me and makes playing dungeons feel less of a chore.

The problem I was having was being to squishy. I like to play somewhat aggressive and I like to try and “save” downed people. I wanted to have an impact on my group in a tangible way. Glass cannon builds just did not seem to have the DPS to justify being such a weeny in dungeons. Especially if you like to lead the charge, or lead groups.

Here is the build.

Its basically just a variation or probably a well known build for all I know of the staff condition mesmer. The thing I found is that I hate managing too many cooldowns. I already have shatters and weapon CDs to worry about. And I don’t like skills that have a lot of downtime. In this way the signets are awesome. And taking cleansing inscriptions in chaos means I have 3 condition removers built in whenever I need them.

Signet of Inspiration – I like the boons it gives, all of them are beneficial in combat to some extent. Arguably you could use a different signet here. But I like the auto buffs myself

Signet of Domination – extra condition DPS and a on demand stun. Obviously great for CC and damage

Signet of illusions – makes illusions more tanky. A little counter intuitive to shattering, but then again I can have my illusions run a gauntlet of fire to there intended target and they go boom without being picked off so easy. Or I can have them out taking hits for our team.

And I use mass invisibility mainly as an escape tool or to save a downed player, its got a shorter cooldown than quickness, and in PVE its really not so great as people tend to spread out so much you are lucky to quicken more than a few people if that.

I play this as a hybrid of shatter spam and condition mesmer. The create a clone on dodge plus the staff lowered CD’s makes creating clones easy. You can just bomb mobs over and over and still get 3 illusions up in a matter of seconds for the 9% increased damage and 9% reduced incoming damage. On long boss fights I keep up Iwarlocks and just stack conditions as much as possible to get big hits in.

The clone generation plus the toughness from 30 in chaos and then the 50% increased illusion health means if needed you can be a constant source of tanking for your team. To me this is the biggest draw, being able to make the boss hit your illusions up to 50% of the time. And then you have total control blow them all up and summon 3 more in a split second.

And I find that I do decent DPS. I have near 950 con damage and 1850 toughness. So I can do some decent damage and still not be taken out. And with the signets doing 3 different things (con removal, passive buff, active effect) I feel the 3 utility slots are perfect. I can just worry about shatter CDs and weapon CDs.

Anyways that is the build I am using, I tried a condition build a while back I saw on the forums and I did not like how it worked. I also tried a shatter bomber build, it was just too squishy, I also made a support healer build that I saw somewhere, and it barely noticeable healed anything. So for me this build is the sweet spot, damage and group support with personal survivability with 3 con removers.

I had yet to be happy with a build but this one does if for me atm. If anyone has any suggestions I’d be happy to hear them.

Common enough with the nerfs, especially PVP nerfs. I dont even PVP and I just cant wait to see what PVP nerfs I get to endure next. Its getting old.

Its not even the difficulty that is the issue. Its how its done. The one shotting and extreme CC spam, the condition spam. You remove one condition an the mob reapplies the second after. Having near 2k toughness and getting one shotted or hit for 75% of your health simultaneously knocked down with a burning condition applied.

This sort of thing just pisses people off. You feel like a piece of krap the whole time, you can get all worked up theory crafting about making a tanky build only to get your butt handed to you by a spiderling. This game has got that Korean MMO feel to it that I despise.

The game first of all needs to be fun, not frustrating. That is why no one is playing them. I have played many games that were challenging that were also fun. This game is still just abut random big hits and insta gibs. And all the player skills are watered down because they are also PVP skills

No man you can use your credit card to by gems in the gem store, and can trade gems for gold in game. So in other words you can spend your real money to buy in game gold. Just press “O” and check out currency exchange.

Who knows maybe Anet sees speed dungeon runners as people eating away at their future gold sales online. If so just wow.

I hope this is not all about them selling us gold via the gem store….never considered that. Boy if that ever gets established as the reason we are getting hosed it won’t be pretty for them. Maybe I am being naive and thinking Anet was not taking that angle, especially after what happened to Diablo 3.

This is the first game where I have seen where you can outright buy gold with real money from the company itself, it wasn’t too long ago when no self respecting company would ever endorse this sort of thing.

Insanity – repeating the same action and expecting different results.

You knew you were getting bugged rewards, and Anet has posted several times that it’s not intended. And yet you continued to do runs regardless, and say they are purposely screwing you over. Ok then…

And call what exploits? Doing something that’s obviously not working as intended to bypass or trivialize content? Yeah, that’s the definition of an exploit. Technically, you should get banned (or at least suspended) for exploiting those flaws. You agreed not to when you started playing (read the Rules of Conduct if you don’t believe me).

If you didn’t do any actual exploiting, that’s good. Just means you were hit with the DR bug like a lot of the rest of us. Which, again, is not working as intended and they’re fixing it.

Also, about the kd… did you consider watching for his animation and dodging his attack? Blocking it? Bringing a stunbreaker? Anything like that? Gotta play smart with the bosses…

Oh yeah man what I should do is not even play the game I bought for what like 3 weeks? Or I can run around open zone and farm wild boards or deer….seriously. I want a refund of my money is what I want.

Oh but meanwhile I am wasting my time, can’t even play the game. Taking huge losses in repairs and if I do complete I get basically nothing for doing it. Yeah thats what Anet needed to do is chase off a huge portion of its player base in the first month of going live.

Yea dude obviously if you are too good and clear a dungeon really fast that is called an exploit. Exploiters must be punished, no matter how vague or missappropriately Anet defines.

Riding the rage train? Try running every dungeon since that patch hit and getting only the minimal rewards? Then they plainly state make sure you have not run multiple dungeon runs too fast in the past. In other words they went back and went after people who were running dungeons pre patch.

Then they have the nerve to call it exploits…..as if that makes it ok what they are doing to people. Its not an exploit, trash company 100%. I lost like 1.2 gold in rewards alone, and then I lost 6 silver just now because of their garbage gameplay mechanics where if a boss can literally chain KD you until death with ease. Where are the diminishng retruns on chain KD?

Oh yeah there aren’t any because that actually might make their dungeons worth doing. It don’t matter population is thinning on their servers, and will continue to do so. I hope they merge servers and their xpac sells like krap. Only way they will learn is if they lose a few million dollars in sales revenue. If there is any justice in this world at all Anet will get whats coming to them.

So yeah Im angry getting ripped off for over a week, yet I still have to pay the same repair costs as everyone else. And they don’t even answer tickets about it. Boy i cannot wait until they come hat in hand wanting me to buy an xpac, I am gonna laugh so freaking hard its going to hurt.

Is there an ETA for the dungeon rewards fix?

LOL nope, they dropped the DR system on us and its screwed up the whole game and they are in no hurry to fix it. I want to be reimbursed the money I am owed.

Dude they did this on purpose its not bugged its what the programmed in. I am getting 6 silver a run for reward. Just tried CM explore Ausra path I lost 6 silver repairing, cant even finish.

The shotty guy was chain KDing me till dead….amazing game guys Anet is such a class company let me tell you. Worst gamign company ever. They did this on purpose and its still not fixed.

I lose money running dungeons, and I have been ripped off well voer a gold for this pos game. Where is that reward? Are they going to make it right? Do the right thing? heck no.

I guess I can run around the open zones and farm trash mobs right? We can do that right? Or is that an exploit too? What isnt an exploit Anet? You mean running your dungeons killing the mobs you put there and getting pre patch rewards that YOU put in the game? Was that an exploit? Or is that just your krappy programming…what lousy joke of a company.

I am never forming another group, not going to help anyone not doing anything unless I get the rewards that were taken from me. That is why no groups all your avid dungeoneers, the ones who formed groups, participated, and got thing rolling…they are all being royally screwed with the rewards..cough punishment system.

I am tired of helping people get their “just” rewards while I get nothing but a slap in the face.

you were ripped off on purpose by Anet, because they feel in the past you played too much. Therefore retroactively they have sidelined swaths of people into the “do not reward” category.

This has got to be the biggest most unprincipled company in the history of gaming.

yeah I see so I have been getting screwed because of your desire to “punish” those who were “speed clearing”

I get it, so I have gotten ripped off for my last 5 dungeon runs…I would love to tell you where to go. Anet never again I swear…never again.

What trulty disgusts me is that I ran story modes almost exclusively, so I am now getting hosed on seals…I CANT EVEN GET ANY!

It’s a bug. They are fixing it. That is all.

Its not a bug, I get it EVERYTIME. Its not random its everytime, its a sick twisted retribution system. I submitted tickets and they are ignored.

Yeah the dungeons are in bad shape mostly because they scrapped roles in dungeons and then went with old school dungeon design. Its working out horribly. Then to add difficulty they added one shot mechanics and CC spam.

Its just a giant mess, it was a problem before the diminishing returns debacle…..but now its like a total mess. We will never see fucntioning normal dungeon content in this game if you ask me. First we have to fight the dev team on this ridiculous diminishing returns system, that is going to take forver.

I have just about written off GW2 dungeon content to be honest. Turning into one big pile of fail. All they had to do is keep their eye on the ball here….ask one simple question…“is it fun?”

Had they concentrated on that rather than their metrics and statistical analysis of MMOs and their economy and so on they would have plenty of players hanging around.

The thing is this I have not been playing GW2 much lately specifically for this reason. To find out they intended to screw me on purpose is really an insult over injury.

last night I decided to “trust” anet and give CM explore another go. Took awhile but found a group who needed a 5th. This group had never run CM explore at all. So it was a little brutal, I ended up leading parts of it and I really carried the water a lot for the whole group. I ate a few deaths trying to make it work, at one point people were going to give up and I went ahead and started solo clearing and got rid of the rocket launchers where you have to reflect the rockets back. I soloed the 3 mobs at the end of that hall way with the circle spike traps while everyone was downed and getting skewered over and over.

Now personally I don’t mind doing this, I like to help people out. But when we finally finished the last boss off these other guys got full rewards some guy got some kind of death blossoms…linking it in chat…and I got jack krap. Was my time less valuable than theirs? Did they do more to earn their rewards than I did?

The problem is this happens every time I run a dungeon. So to find out that they intentionally did this to me? Well of course that is absurd and going to cause some anger…and how long before I can actually run a dungeon and get the same rewards as EVERYONE ELSE!!? Why am I being punished for doing nothing wrong?

Just how empty do your servers have to get before you realize what that patch did to your game? Pre-patch everyone having fun playing the game, after patch a barren wasteland where its nigh impossible to find a group. Was that your intent? Do you have internal graphs showing population pre and post patch? You ought to fire the brainchild who came up with that idea.

All rewards are susceptible to our code that is dealing with people who are speed clearing dungeons. If you find yourself getting less rewards consider whether or not your rate of dungeon completion is extremely high. This did not get reset with the patch.

If you think you are running at a fairly reasonable pace post all of the chains you have run and the times to complete and we will file it to try and figure out if it is a bug. Please post accurate times, otherwise we cannot determine if there are in fact bugs in the system.

There is your Quote. They targeting people specifically that ran dungeons with exploits. This is a witch hunt and to be honest i find it quite amusing how a professional gaming company can act in such a vindictive way almost like a spoiled little brat that does not get what it wants.

I have lost all respect for this company and the developers. They should be glad we test their bugged game and discover exploits. Without us they are NOTHING.

I could not care less, the medium dungeon armours are all really ugly and not worth my time.

Exactly my issue. Its not the fact thats it all jacked up…I can live with it…I would still complain but it happens. However when they “go after” people like this its just outside the professional standards for any company. They need to get rid of people there, this isn’t a mistake its a mindset.

Its like the difference between someone accidently knocking you over, and someone pushing you over. The intent is what matters clearly.
