I just crashed (again) out of an almost completed Tarir Meta (all 4 Bosses at 5% at ~2min).

Obviously I couldn’t get back into the correct map and now have nothing to show for it. If you can’t get a grip on the game crashes how about a friggin re-join system? Even GW1 had one by this time.

I’m getting fed up. I’ve lost count on the number of times I have not gotten any rewards for events/metas due to bugs in the participation recognition system or straight up game crashes since the release of HoT.

To reiterate: I never had issues with GW2 crashing up until the release of HoT. Since then, I crash once every ~2h.

I posted earlier about my client crashing (October 25, 2015 14:57).

Now I don’t even get an error message. The client just hangs and I have to kill it through the task manager. This happened two times now. Both as I was about to take a screenshot (pressed printscreen —> hang).

Miraculously I was able to re-log into the same map instance. Your brilliant event participation system informed me that I was no longer participating in the escort event I had been doing (Escort Arwyna to the Oger camp). So I ran to catch up, was able to, and followed Arwyna to the Oger camp. HOWEVER, since on the last few meters she does not encounter any enemies I could not re-gain event participation!

Do you even test your new features? Why give me a notification at all if I am unable to re-gain participation!?
This was not the only time that the event participation system kicked me from events without good reason. One other example: The pact soldiers in Verdant Brink you are supposed to escort to the camps multiple times just stopped moving, subsequently kicking ME for inactivity.

Please think more about your wonderful new features before you drop them into your game and cause frustration to your player base.

Ever since the HoT release my game keeps crashing. I never had this problem before.
I have not been able to complete one of the new map metas without crashing at some point.

Just now I was in Auric Basin for about an hour doing events. Meta was almost complete. I had “195%” participation. I ported to Northwatch and walked north a few steps and boom. Crash. Now I stand in an empty Auric Basin map with 0% participation. VERY annoying.

Sorry if this has been suggested in the past but the search function in this forum is abysmal.

Background: I play on a national [DE] server (Elona Reach) and since German is only spoken in a very small time zone, we don’t have a strong night presence.
The WvW season, again, made it blatantly obvious that you can try as hard as you want, but you simply can not win a match-up against dedicated international servers (this includes some of the French national servers who have either recruited help from oversea territories or don’t need any sleep). During prime time (~16:00-23:00 UTC+1) our match-ups during season 1 (gold league) were all pretty even, but most weeks at least one of the enemy servers tore down all structures during the night with next to no opposition and greeted us with fully upgraded keeps and full maps the next morning. Since most people here have to go to work/school in the morning it subsequently takes us the whole day to recapture our parts of the maps before we can go into the offensive (resulting in bad PPTs the whole day). Rinse and repeat the next night.

The first example shows very well that this is a coverage issue. Thursday was a national holiday and many took Friday off as well. Thus more people were online during the night (by no means a huge zerg but far more than usual).

Suggestion: One simple way to avoid the enemy getting a 10k+ points lead during one night would be to scale the PPT on each map according to the number of players online for the respective enemy servers.
Example: Let’s say server #1 has 50 players on the map but server #2 and #3 next to none. In this situation server #1 should also gain next to no points for it’s held structures on this map. When no enemy is on the map to threaten you, you should not get points for “defending”. Accordingly servers #2 and #3 should get more points for their currently held structures when outmanned (on the respective map). When the player numbers for all three servers are roughly even the PPT would work like they do now.

This is a basic example only and the exact numbers and multipliers would need to be worked out. The outmanned server would still lose everything over night but at least the enemy would not be able to “farm” points with no opposition.

This feels like the last time Elona was in T1.

Not saying that I don’t enjoy the fights but Elona simply can’t bring the necessary manpower to the field to fight two big servers at once. Last week we dominated because Desolation was pretty much inactive.

When I played yesterday (at prime time!) we couldn’t act at all. The whole time we had to *re*act to attacks on both our homelands spawn towers. We were maybe 20-30 organized players and had to counter (treb/cata) attacks of Vizunah in the west and Jade Sea in the east at the same time with blobs of about 30-40 each. This pretty much took all out strength and we had no way to attack anything else.

Yesterday might have been an extreme case because of the football match but over the coming days we will lose more and more of our “good weather” players as the ratings get worse (Elona has a very large share of unorganized players that will quit WvW as soon as we aren’t winning).

Limit stats higher than exotics to dungeons

They said that Legendarys and Exotics would be BiS and that BiS Items would be rather easy to get, which was true until November 15th. Now you have to grind all day to get your BiS gear.

Not to mention that the shared material requirements for Exotics/Ascended/Legendaries lead to price inflations that directly affect availability of Exotics (formerly known as “max stat”).

Compared to the max stat Droknar’s armor in GW1, full Exotic gear in GW2 is already ridiculously hard to get (and is not even max stat anymore). Unlike the Armor in GW1, the price of Exotics depend on the “free market” in the game, which means they will get even more expensive as the main player base gets richer and more people try to get Ascended/Legendary items.

It will get harder and harder for new players to get geared up properly which might very well turn some of these people away from the game.

The fact that one of the required materials (for all three gear tiers!) is a pure RNG item (ectoplasm) doesn’t help, either.

Like with T6 materials, Anet made the stupid mistake to tie ectos to all 3 highest crafting tiers (exotic, ascended and legendary).

This makes the acquisition of exotics dependent on the demand/desirability of ascended/legendary items. That in turn completely defeats the purpose of exotics as relatively easy to get max stat gear for “everybody” and casual players are now forced to pay double or more than before because of vanity items (legendaries) that don’t even interest them.

This is bad design. If players want to grind for weeks to get vanity items let them, but don’t mix their aquisition with the “normal” market (and I consider everything up to exotic “normal”).

On a side note:
To have all high level crafting be dependent on only the highest level of materials also means that players will have even more incentive to only play in the 4 T6 explorable areas, further depopulating the lower level zones.
It would have been much more intelligent to have, for example, the recipes for legendaries require not full stacks of T6 materials only, but instead smaller stacks but from all tiers.
The fact of the matter is that currently all materials under T6 are completely useless once you leveled your crafting professions past them.

The supposed “gear progression” falls flat on its face when the last 3 tiers all need the same tier of crafting material!

Crafting an exotic set is getting harder and harder because ascended and legendaries keep inflating material prices.

If exotics were meant to be the relatively-easy-to-get high level gear with ascended and legendaries as long time goals, well, you failed basic economics Anet.

The scaling of loot/XP and the necessary damage dealt to tag enemies in big events is way off.

I have just spent roughly an hour first setting the explosives in the nest and then trying to lure the ancient karka. I helped kill dozens of karka but didn’t get loot from a single kill (ele with aoe). I have made at least 10 times more XP by reviving other players than from killing enemies!
This is ridiculous! On my overflow we are still trying to kill the “reinforcements” of the ancient karka. Players die left and right. All of them will have monstrous repair bills and most likely got almost no loot.

Of course this makes people angry and frustrated.

Armor/clothing art issue

Human female necromancer.

After a few minutes of playtime the Mending Chestpiece of Mercy (story reward) loses part of it’s shoulder/back texture. It looks like a layer of cloth vanishes and a metallic surface with red triangles on the back and on the shoulders becomes visible. The metallic effect might be a result of my current secondary colour for this armour piece.

I could not reproduce what exactly causes this. I have observed it happening with and without getting into fights, swimming or dying. Sometimes it happens after a few minutes, sometimes it only takes seconds. Un-equipping and re-equipping the item fixes the bug temporarily.

The item is trasmuted. I can unfortunately not remember if the bug already happened with the original item.

What is "Night capping" for you?

If night capping is supposed to be countered by recruiting off time guilds/players from other servers then the whole concept of region specific servers is a design failure.

In the long term, off time recruitment means that there will be a few servers who manage to get full coverage and all others can forget to ever play in the higher tiers. People who are interested in WvW will naturally converge on these few full coverage servers. Starting a new one through recruiting will get harder and harder and finally become impossible at some point in the not so distant future simply due to a shortage of interested players (the less there are, the more likely they will just join one of the existing servers). Especially after server transfer costs have been implemented. How would you get a huge amount of players to transfer servers when everyone will have to pay at least the equivalent of a character slot in gems?

WvW on the remaining low coverage servers will either die down completely or be reduced to <50 player matches due to lack of interest.

PS:
With the the current system servers with a recommended language can all but forget playing WvW competitively. Especially German is only spoken in a very narrow timezone. So all [DE] servers can either pack up and leave or recruit players with other languages. These players will most likely not stop playing the PvE content of GW2. This effectively makes the [DE] servers [EN] servers which completely defeats the purpose of having [DE] servers in the first place.

My home server Elona Reach [DE] is quite well organized in WvW with timeslots for specific commanders and dedicated TeamSpeak. But in the current match-up against Blacktide (a recruitment server) we lose pretty much all Towers/Keeps during the night and early morning hours. When the German players start to come back in the afternoon they are greeted by fully upgraded Towers and Keeps with the Blacktide team at full player capacity.
As a result WvW participation on Elona is slowly going down even further. Nobody wants to fight with these odds, knowing that all their work will be undone in a few hours. I guess by the end of the current match-up Blacktide will own all maps uncontested.

Orr is difficult. But not in a challenging way. Its difficulty is lazily implemented and frustrating. High respawn rates and successive stuns/knockdowns are not a challenge, they are a nuisance.

The respawan rates make planning ahead almost impossible as you have no way of knowing when you’ll suddenly get swarmed from behind by enemies you just killed.
The variety in enemy types in general is lacking, too. But that’s not the point of this thread.
The main problem with stuns/knockdowns/pulls is that the enemy animations are often not timed very accurately to the actual attack. And like previously pointed out the “dodge window” is often very small. This makes it more likely to miss a dodge and in Orr that can mean inevitable death if enough other enemies are around (or about to respawn). The sheer number of enemies with such abilities also means you run out of dodges and condition removal very fast.

You’re not challenging the player by letting him lie immobilized on the ground while (e.g.) 2 Abnominations punch him into a small puddle of goo.

I had the same problem a few weeks back.

The solution in my case was to make sure that Trahearne was near me (and her) when initiating the dialogue with Mira (he has a part in the dialogue).
My mistake was to speed buff run to her while Trahearne was still in his previous conversation. If you try to talk to Mira while Trahearne is not nearby her scripting breaks.

The waypoint system as it is currently implemented is a total disaster for an MMO.

Just a few minutes ago some players asked for help with the Melandru event in Cursed Shore. Guess what? Nobody came.
Because walking would have taken too long (the event would have ended by the time you’d get there with all the stun and cripple enemies) and the waypoint costs would have negated most of the event rewards (which are terrible as it is). So people kept doing their practised event and mineral farming (which is effectively single player gameplay).

The gold sink argument is totally besides the point as waypoint costs affect the wrong part of the player base. Gold farmers in particular don’t even use waypoints very often. Implement more cosmetic gold sinks if you want, but don’t punish people for playing your game.

Only partially relevant to the topic:
Honestly, all that’s keeping me playing currently is my goal of full Exotic sets for all my 80ies. And that means I make an Orichalcum run with all my characters once a day. Leaving Orr would cost me money, so I don’t do much else.
When I have my armor I see no incentive to keep playing. It’s not like waypoint costs would ruin me financially but travelling around just isn’t fun when you know that every teleport costs you money if you don’t do something at your destination to earn it back.

After getting my Citadel armor in GW1 I mostly explored the map (I had like 95% of Tyria explored when the titles where first implemented) and visited the Int districts of out-of-the-way outposts like Ice Tooth Cave or Maguuma Stade regularly to see if any interesting player events are being done (I fondly remember the strike for the prestige Tormentor’s skin in Lion’s Arch and the frequent events organized by [BOAT]. With the server system of GW2 these are unfortunately no longer possible).
In GW2 I would like to – for example – search for more jumping puzzles (not google them) and do events I might not have participated in yet.
But not when doing so effectively costs me money. I have no way of knowing what’s currently happening on a map until I’ve traveled there. So looking to do specific events (like the dragon bosses) or even finding groups for dungeons is an expensive guessing game.

This game needs a first-person camera!

I have a medium sized Norn and the jumping puzzle under Lion’s Arch is a pain due to the camera spazzing out.
Even the smallest environmental object causes the camera to zoom in behind it.

I don’t understand why a first person camera was not included in the game. Are you afraid player could look at places they’re not supposed to see (look further up for example)? Was it removed to make jumping puzzles artificially harder?

I really can’t think of a sensible reason to omit it from the game.

Summoned minions tend to run to enemies far away from the player. This can be controlled to some extend by attacking a specific enemy yourself (the minions will try to attack the same target). But once you’ve finished your intended target the minions are “free to do as they please”. Even if you didn’t actually want to engage in another fight, your minions will attack the nearest target in range. If you try to run away, they also force you to remain “in combat” while you yourself are in fact far away from any enemies.

This is a serious problem because once you’ve summoned these creatures, you have no way to get rid of them, except through combat. The summons of the elementalist die eventually but the minions are permanent (and that’s good, in principle).

I understand that a mechanic like the pet controls for rangers could make the “pets” of necromancers and elementalists too strong. But at least give me the option to kill them off when I don’t need them anymore. Currently I can only do that by removing the summoning skills from my skill bar, which is very inconvenient and in fact not possible at all while “in combat”.

This is a big issue for me because Anet decided it would be a good idea to make loot drops de-spawn after a few minutes. So in big fights which last a while you have to run around and try to snatch up all your drops before they vanish.
Various environmental weapons or banner buffs are problematic in that regard as well.

While you’re at it, please add a separate keybind to “end combat” / “stop attacking”.

My elementalist randomly starts attacking enemies when switching to air attunement (1) and pressing ESC to stop that often also makes the character stop walking. As air has all the speed buff traits it’s very annoying to waste said buff because my character enters “fight crawl” (a frustrating mechanic in itself) or stops moving at all.

(1) I don’t know if this is a bug of if I just overlooked some trait ability I selected. The character will start attacking if there are enemies nearby when switching to air. Even if I was not in combat before that. And even more confusing is the fact, that the first attack is obviously a fireball (the previous attunement) and not a lightning strike (which would fit the current air attunement).

The problem with this event is the presence of other players with large character models. I just tried it with my Sylvari elementalist and was together with 5 Charr and a Norn.

The bit where a part of the platform spawns in after a few seconds is a PITA with large characters standing on top of you (see first screenshot). You can’t see your own character and the debris around the place makes the camera spaz out throughout the jump.

You shouldn’t wish bad luck on other players but I have to admit I sighed with relief every time a Charr next to me fell down the tower so I could see better.

What REALLY frustrated me however was that I reached the top 2 times in which the clock didn’t open. The green goo overtook me but I didn’t die. I finally tried to jump at the closed clock but it wouldn’t let me through. (see second screenshot)

I can’t count the number of times I died to hoards of enemies that suddenly spawned right on top of me or unexpectedly cut of my path of retreat.

The current way mobs spawn in the world makes any kind of planing-ahead impossible/useless. What point is there to carefully estimate if I can defeat a certain group/number of enemies when I have no way of knowing when and where additional enemies will (re)spawn in?

A recent example:
I just participated in the World Event at Modniir Gorge in Harathi Hinterlands. I was part of the group that came into the camp through the Hidden Ourobon. Just inside the camp is a skill point which is fairly hard to get to outside of this event. So naturally most of the players went up there and activated it. Then suddenly several waves of additional centaurs spawn around the skill point and in the ensuing panic most of us died. I presume they spawned due to the running World Event but it was impossible for the players to know that enemies would pop in there as the main event at that time took place quite a bit to the west.

The problem is that enemies literally just “pop in” without any kind of forewarning. You don’t know when it will happen or where it will happen. And they instantly engage in combat without any kind of grace period for the player to adjust to the new situation.

While you’re at it please let me turn off my character’s one-liners. I’m not an RP purist but those cheesy comments do not fit my character(s) at all.

Something very similar just happened to me again after the second part of the Personal Story quest “Blast from the Past”.

The point where you exit the instance is in the middle of a huge mob of enemies. On top of that a Risen Giant was standing next to me when I spawned.

You seriously need to work on the way that (or the places where) players spawn in maps.

So I was just kicked out of the game for the latest patch. After logging in again I find myself in a now contested area with enemies literally on top of me (Shelter’s Gate camp).

Almost instant death inevitable. 3s of repair and waypoint costs here I come!

Just pretend that exchanging some gold for gems and buying them is that mystic forge recipe.

Problem with that approach is that the gem prices are not fixed. The current exchange rate is nearing 80s for 100 gems. Assuming you take the 800 gems / 25 stones option (which is equivalent to a character slot!) you’ll pay 6,4 gold for 4 armor set transmutations. This is a lot of money for many players. And god knows how much gem prices will rise in the future.
To bring that into perspective: When I started playing GW2 100 gems cost ‘only’ around 20 silver. That’s an increase of 300% over roughly a months.

I currently have 2 characters at max or near max level and got ~100 normal and 10 fine transmutation stones. A way to convert these useless stones into fines would be appreciated.

Just a short note regarding waypoint fees:

Many players here defend the current system as a needed gold sink. However, IMHO it is a gold sink that takes money from the entirely wrong part of the player base. The inflation comes from ‘powergamers’ that farm certain events or dungeons. These people don’t actually use waypoints all that much. The fees are also actually too low to affect them significantly. A ‘casual’ player that wants to spontaneously help a fiend or other players on the map with a specific mob/quest gets hit the hardest.
The prospect of losing money takes away the incentive to help other people out, which should be the main focus of a multiplayer game.

On a semi related note:
Many paths of the Personal Story have a huge (and unfair) difference in accumulated waypoint costs. Compare the way (and resulting waypoint costs) ‘Lions Arch → Whispers Hideout’ to ‘Lions Arch → Priory’ to see what I mean.

Straits of Devastation can only be completed after a level 70+ Personal Story quest. In theory this would not be a (big) problem (but unnecessary nonetheless).

In reality all my 70+ characters got struck in their PS at various points. First in Forging the Pact then in Tower Down and now my current main at the beginning of The Battle of Fort Trinity.

Having a POI in a non accessible area adds unnecessary and avoidable frustration to the game.

On top of that I got stuck multiple times trying to jump my way into the fort (the /stuck command is a nice idea but being told to “please use the nearest [fee-based!] waypoint” is adding insult to injury).

I am easily bored of the current look of my character and like to re-dress him/her often. I used to collect armour in Guild Wars 1 and I think my main had close to 15 sets.

Storing all these was a pain in the puppy and I had hoped that GW2 would come up with a better system than having to make multiple storage characters.

Unlocking the skins into a renewable item like the heritage stuff in the HoM is the best I can think of.

The problem with waypoint costs is that they in fact discourage helping other players with small tasks which are not likely to cover the expense of the teleport.
An event boss on a map, for example, is often too far away to run to it before it is (or the players present are) defeated. Helping these players in time would require a teleport to the nearest waypoint. For a level 80 that is at least 1 silver. You might make that money back with the mob drops you get, but you have no guarantee to not actually lose money for helping other players out.

The cost of small-distance teleports (e.g. resurrecting after defeat) is way too high either way, though.
The way it is, a player that has been killed is punished two times. Armor repair and teleport costs.

Disallow respawning within immediate player perimeter

Monsters should spawn “slower” meaning they should not attack for a reasonably short time (and be invulnerable in that time for all I care).
The problem I had multiple times is that monsters can hit me before I can barely see them. The fact that they can spawn right on top of me doesn’t help.

Possibly the respawn rate should scale with the number of players present (radar range).
I have often tried to solo a boss with reasonable success only to die because of the normal mobs in it’s immediate vicinity respawning while I was dodging the attacks of the boss.

If I am dead I naturally want to focus my attention on my allies to see when and if someone can resurrect me. The forced camera rotation after a few seconds is really annoying in this situation.

The fact that the minimap isn’t available in “death mode” is inconvenient as well.

It’s more than frustrating to teleport to a waypoint only to be greeted by up to 5 hostile mobs and subsequently almost instantly die.
I then have to pay for the teleport again (+ armor repairs).

This affects almost every waypoint in Orr. Especially at/near deity events. Just a few minutes ago I wanted to visit the karma vendor at Lyssa’s. The priestess was defeated and the waypoints were all uncontested. But as soon as I materialized I was swarmed by Risen and shot at by 2 or 3 catapults (I was apparently the only player around). I tried to run to “safety” up to the karma vendor and was murdered by the 10+ enemies that stood right next to him.

These waypoints should either be labelled as “contested” or the enemy number around them drastically reduced. Currently teleporting in Orr outside of peak hours is a(n expensive) game of chance.

I don’t understand why we can even see armor that we cannot wear at vendors. It clutters the interface and forces you to search for your specific items. The same goes for weapons. Karma vendors are especially confusing because they have so many different types of items (amulets/weapons/armor).

In GW1 you couldn’t see armor from other professions. I don’t understand why you can now.

Armor damage in a (semi) PvP environment is a very counterproductive mechanic. You are indirectly forced to abandon fights early or otherwise prevent death. On a level 80 character repairing just one piece of armor costs around one and a half silver. That’s more than you’ll get in drops in the first few (small) fights in WvW. It’s discouraging to potentially lose money in an activity that should be about strategy and cooperating with teammates. Especially if you include the money for siege equipment.

I know I have logged out during a fight at least once. The reason was a Zerg mob of enemy players that suddenly appeared right in front of me. I should have been able to see them much sooner but the game handles huge amounts of players/enemies very badly(1). I felt cheated and was quite frankly mad as hell at the game. I didn’t even log in again afterwards (the WvW queue wouldn’t have let me in for quite a while anyway).

(1) The “pop-in” of enemies is a huge problem in PvE as well. Doing events in Orr I regularly am unable to see the enemies at all. The players around me seemingly attack fresh air and sometimes I just barely see the red enemy names appearing as the mob falls down. I get almost no XP up to the usual boss fight because I can’t do enough damage to enemies before they die. Even more problematic is that I am sometimes attacked by fresh air and unable to defend myself.

The researchers following you or not does indeed seem to be totally random. I have tried this missions around 5 times over the last few weeks and today finally got through. I did not do anything differently from before.

My advice to people still stuck is to just give up on the personal story and come back in a few months when this post-release beta test is over.
Because after weeks of effort (and dozens of silver in repair and teleportation costs) I am now stuck in the immediate follow-up quest … nothing in this game past level ~60 seems to work correctly.

So after 2 weeks (and countless repairs/teleports/runs) of trying to get through Forging the Pact and finally doing it by PURE LUCK (I didn’t do anything differently) I am now stuck in the FOLLOWING quest …

All 3 towers are down and the beach is cleared. No objective remains but the mission won’t finish.

Have you tested this game AT ALL before release!? I have bought the game to play it, not to beta test it!

Every evening between ~7-10pm (UTC+1) the game gets unplayable due to lag. The rest of the day is fine, but in those few hours I get lag spikes from 5 seconds to a minute and frequent kicks with error 7:11:3:189:101.

STILL the exact same behaviour.

After dozens of ridiculous strafe fights the second team doesn’t budge. All the NPCs are good for is pulling too much mobs and then stand idly by while the player gets beelined by up to 6 risen at a time.

I got a whole of 3 drops out of the whole instance. Repair costs for ONE piece of armour are around 1,5 silver for my (by now) level 80 elementalist. Add to that the run/teleport to the start of the instance and this quest is nothing more than a frustrating time and gold sink.

I simply can’t believe you have been unable to reproduce/fix this bug for WEEKS now.

Also: All risen grubs now produce the “this content has been temporarily disabled” error message in chat when they die. Their behaviour (epileptic twitching right and left after they spawn) is unchanged.

This really gets on my nerves.
How many times did you claim to have fixed this quest!? And it’s still the exact same bug! I have just wasted another 5s in repair costs (another pointless gold sink mechanic) and the quest itself (up to the bug) is irritating as hell.

Your game balance for players who want or have to play alone is seriously broken. NPCs stand around doing nothing after aggroing groups of up to 6 mobs that do 4000 damage per hit (while I do ~400 at lvl 62). And even if they fight at all they do absolutely no damage. It’s almost comical how they can swing their weapons at enemies for minutes without even a single one going down. On top of that enemies in general instantly swarm me (elementalist) and mostly ignore any NPC present.

I feel like playing a monk (+ chicken henchmen) in GW1 again. That was NOT the kind of nostalgia I was looking forward to!
