You can preview all dyes in-game by checking ‘show locked’ in the dye menu. So if anyone wanted to see how it compares to other black dyes they can do that before buying it.

Meh, I will never understand this obsession with black dyes, they are so boring.

It depends what you do with them. I agree it’s boring if you just dye your whole outfit black (and I say that as someone who often wears all black in real life), but if you use them with other dyes it can look really good.

Agree. I need to get a true black to go with my orange for Halloween.

Do you really need a blacker black than the ones available in-game, though? That’s kinda what I’m talking about here, that it’s already at the point you can use black dye that makes the armor featureless…

I guess the next step is a “black hole” costume to match the cosmic gathering tools, so we end up with this black void wandering around, occasionally popping out this galaxy to eat an ore node…

That’s a good point. I do think we want to remain in the Tyrian galaxy and not one far, far away.

Speaking of galaxies far, far away. Can we get more lightsaber type swords? You can pretty much copy the design exactly and get away with it as long as you use a different name. Plenty of games do it with no copyright issues. Just call it an Asuran plasma saber and you’re good to go. And add the “whoosh” sound to it when the blade comes out.

My Sith Lords like the direction this is going.

Yeah, like others stated, if lore and running around are you excuses for not having rotund character models, there are many who just sit at the TP, sit at the Mystic Toilet, sit at JP chests, sit at popular gathering spots. Even if they’re traveling, what if they fly around everywhere on a magic carpet? Even then, Kasmeer wears illusion clothing and is actually naked. So it is literally in lore that you can maintain an illusion constantly to look however you want.

If you think there are already fat options because Norn, Charr, and Asura already have them, well… What about the other races? And broad Charr and Asura don’t really look properly plump to me.

Clipping issues are the only real problems I see so far in this thread and even that I err on the side of SP as there are many varying proportions that have no clipping issues. If any arise I imagine Anet would be capable of fixing them. They’ve adjusted things before.

Colin has been at Anet since nearly the beginning, and Mo one of the founders. So Colin has been working for Mo for at least a decade. You don’t work for a company for 10 years and become the primary public spokesperson and perhaps most memed smiling face of the company without enjoying it. I’m far more inclined to believe Colin’s explanation that he has an opportunity to work closer to home and wants to help his wife obtain some long delayed dream of hers.

Colin also continued working the few weeks after the announcement and AMA, so I can’t imagine Anet was displeased with his work as they kept him on board. And I’m disinclined to believe Colin had a beef with Mo and Anet since he was part of the AMA and could publicly display his disapproval if so desired.

So I doubt there’s much drama (if any) between Mo and Colin.

As for the Glass Door reviews, as others have posted, there’s reason to be skeptical. Regardless, there’ve been multiple polls, devs have asked for player input on things like the female design of the legendary armors, etc. So if Anet had something rotten internally at all, I think they’ve been well on their way to improving it for quite some time now.

If you think management is the problem, you’re talking about Mo. And he has led Anet successfully throughout GW1, successfully through the launch of GW2, and before Anet he was a leader at Blizzard for many of their top franchises Diablo, StarCraft, etc… And apparently he was largely responsible for creating Battle.net. Back when magazines were a thing he was apparently listed as one of the most influential people in the gaming industry.

So, if you think Mo is the problem… I can’t imagine anybody being more qualified than he is so having someone take his place would probably just make things worse…

And no, I’m not a fanboy of Mo. I knew nothing of him and just did a bunch of googling after the legendary weapons fiasco.

So no, I don’t think Anet is dying internally. But if they are/were, they are working hard to climb out of the hole they’re in. And if management is a problem, well, good luck finding someone better/more qualified than Mo…

Been getting a lot of WvW polls to vote for in WvW, and a lot of changes since the April patch including return of Alpines BL, participation system, commander functionality, rewards tracks, WvW exclusive skins, the new rank point item that allows you to buy siege/food anywhere, and then that item has been updated a number of ways so you can buy superior siege with proof of heroics, and those proofs are account bound now instead of soul bound, server linking “ally” system to improve population imbalance… Still a long ways to go, but I can’t say WvW hasn’t been getting a good amount of attention.

PvP has their pro-leagues, many of the PvP maps are in “beta” as Anet attempts to improve them to player demand, class imbalance is (and will always be) a major issue. Can’t say PvP is really all that ignored either.

PvE has the current event achievements and events, and while small this is the build-up to LS3 and I’d expect it to compare to LS1 so while slowly drawing out, I can’t say PvE is being ignored either.

Raids are probably the most positively received and successful kind of content currently, so it’s the most advertised/promoted/etc. But I wouldn’t say it’s raid-centric, just all the others are in a “we’re working on it” stage atm.

For the people who think Penguin is a troll. Don’t you think derailing a “thank you Anet for showing support” thread into a “OMG look at what this troll is doing” thread is doing exactly what a troll would want?

For the people who go “why doesn’t Anet do something for every other minority group?”. There’s a lot of starfish drying out on the beach. Doesn’t make it any less altruistic if you can only manage tossing one or two back into the ocean. It made a difference for that one! A victory for one discriminated group is a victory towards less discrimination for all. Just let everyone throw the few starfish they can. If they can’t get to your star, stop hating them and just toss the starfish yourself. Everyone’s in this together.

For the “OMG SJW agenda” people… It’s a colored icon. Chill out. Let people celebrate being themselves when they haven’t been allowed to for centuries. In fact join in on the party and have fun, I’m sure they won’t mind more people attending the parade regardless of sexuality.

I don’t care if Sir slippery arctic avian is sincere or not. I was unaware of Anet changing their icon before this thread and I’m glad I’m aware now. And I think it’s an action worth appreciating, so thank you Penguin for posting this and thank you Anet for your generous display of support!

this “vote” should actually be made an in game ordeal. let the entire population decide, not the 250 people out of millions decide the fate of the game. keep in mind out of the entire player base, these 250-300 people were the only ones who had issues, while everyone else were either indifferent, or are right now picking out their die colors for the new armor. the few of us who oppose this change, were the only ones fortunate enough to catch this conversation, while the rest of the player base have no idea that this is going on. This forum is only a very vocal minority, most players have no idea what goes on in the forums, let alone where they are.

give the mass population a voice and a choice.

I didn’t think of this, but I agree. Yeah if it’s not too late the data gathered from the forum is pretty much guaranteed to be skewed. There should at least be an in-game mail like the WvW voting. That is if you want data that actually represents the population.

Is GW2 dying? Just a question, no hate

GW2 is NCsoft’s best performing title in the western market. Blade and Soul might rival GW2 if their western figures remain the same or higher than their western launch numbers, but that is extremely rare and I doubt it. Even so only having two titles performing strong in the West, they will want to hold onto this market so GW2 isn’t going anywhere soon if NCsoft has a say in it.

Ever since launch the quarterly reports have been relatively stable and comparable to their other titles in the eastern market even though the eastern market has a far higher revenue potential. At least if this site is anything to go by: https://www.superdataresearch.com/market-data/mmo-market/

The revenue in Asia is double all the others combined. Even though GW2 released in China I think the majority of it’s success is in the West. And a title in a smaller market doing comparably to titles in a far larger market seems about as healthy as you can get without being a WoW or Lineage outlier.

If we’re taking anecdotal evidence, every time I do a key run there’s at least a handful of players in the starting instance even far off peak hours for every race (I randomly choose a race just for a touch of variety). Admittedly possibly key farmers as well, but that in addition to seeing simple questions regularly being asked in chat like the location of world bosses in starter zones, questions about daily rooms, questions in EotM and WvW tell me there’s a decent stream of new players, or at the very least veteran players finding new stuff to get into. Either way, plenty of active players for my needs.

There also haven’t been any major layoffs unlike Wildstar, and Colin’s leaving was friendly in nature as they had him continue to work even after announcing his eventual departure and they included him in their AMA at the time. They’ve been building up LS with current events that, even though they are simple, are far better than setting sign posts like how LS1 began and it’s clearly building up to something. Nothing in all of that says the game’s unhealthy to me.

Charr and Asura female precursor armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DaikonSamurai.6714

DaikonSamurai.6714

Late posting, but for future armor sets I still want gender specific armors if only for the sake of having more options. I agree breasts look silly on the chest pieces, especially for races like the Asura and Charr who tend to be very egocentric and look down on humans (and the other races) to a certain degree. I don’t think they would generally want to look more anatomically human. So I think the male chest piece is the best option with this current circumstance.

I still want more “feminine” options though. Maybe for Asura look at similarly bodied characters like Daisy Duck or Minnie Mouse for costume ideas that don’t have cups, but still look “girly”. I also think humanoid female armor could still be adapted in future cases. Maybe reshape into less ovular forms and flatten the cups so they’re not obviously “boobs” just a chest decal or design.

Historically speaking though, actual plate armor shaped like breasts would never be functional anyway as the cleavage would effectively funnel any loosely aimed sword or spear thrust or arrow aimed around the chest directly to the throat. So functional boob cups on armor will always be ridiculous even on humans.

That being said, this is fashion wars and set in a world where at least one Mesmer literally runs around nekkid with Mesmer illusion clothing. So really anything technically works in this setting.

Election year should have election storylines

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DaikonSamurai.6714

I imagine whatever Anet has in store for us is pretty much set in stone already. They probably have all the major story beats and such done in pre-production and production is mostly making that stuff happen, which I imagine takes a decent amount of time in itself. So requesting specific story events are pretty futile at this stage.

If there is a re-election already set in the story, I think it could still lead to an interesting story though. Maybe some assassination attempts or interruption during a speech like how Dragon Bash got attacked. Or maybe someone is sabotaging Ellen Kiel’s image and forcing her out of office early. But again, I doubt any requests will have much, if any influence on the current story as it is now. Especially with these “mini-events” they’ve set in motion leading up to LS3 I think things are already set plot wise.

YouTube, Bethesda at E3, and others had ribbons. I thought that was in good taste. I don’t think there’s much time to make a ton of in-game assets to do what Penguin is asking for in the first place. But I don’t think it would be inappropriate for Anet to express acknowledgement and support for the victims.

I also don’t think it’s a political issue to take a stance on, I think it’s a human tragedy. But if there’s an LGBT political stance to be made here Anet has already made it since launch anyway.

I won’t think anything less of Anet if they decide to do nothing, or can’t afford the resources to do anything. But if they make a kind gesture I think it would be a wonderful sentiment.

Otherwise, if Anet choose to do a tribute ingame for this event, why not doing one for all the other tragedies that happens elsewhere in the world?

Such as :

- Close to 100.000 Syrian civilians were killed so far in the civil war that goes on there.

- on March 6, 2016, a bomb explodes in Hilla (Irak), killing at least 60 people and injuring 70 others.

- on 31 October 2015, a bomb explodes abord the Metrojet Flight 9268 , killing a total of 224 people, consisting of 217 passengers, of which seventeen were children, and seven crew members.

All those death are also victims of injustice, they all had family, relatives, friends. They too deserves recognition. Should something be done ingame for every such saddening event that happens IRL?

“Good morning! What are you doing?” The young man paused, looked up and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”

“I guess I should have asked, Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?”

“The sun is up and the tide is going out. And if I don’t throw them in they’ll die.”

“But young man, don’t you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it. You can’t possibly make a difference!”

The young man listened politely. Then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves. “It made a difference for that one!”

I think a subscription that allows people who already buy monthly gems to simply automate their purchasing of gems would be fine. But anything that makes a subbed player stand out or make a subbed player more valuable for guild recruitment or any game mode should never be implemented. Let’s not give Sneetches stars to put upon thars.

Most of us aren’t making a “VIP” player attractive to a guild. Instead of the 800 gems for $10 it’s 400 gems and 400-ish gems worth of gem shop minor merch. What is in the gem shop that would make a player valuable for a guild?

It’s to attract players who aren’t whales buying $10-25 of gems a week.

And there’s nothing that would divide the player base that isn’t already happening because of the gem shop.

I said automated gem purchasing would be fine imo. Though why you’d want Anet to choose how those gems are spent for you makes no sense to me.

No they are not. But if someone randomly attacks you out of turn tell them to stop and if they don’t I have found other players always take out the troll. And if an admin is there they will kick out the troll too. I’ve found daily rooms are easy to accomplish even with trolls running around. you can always also try another room. In addition, most definitely I do not want to see players who never PvP in the PvP que to get the daily, just because PvE dailies are becoming a pain.

But daily rooms don’t take up a queue slot. They are completely separate instances and PvP players have their own instances to play in. And I actually enjoy the daily rooms since every now and then I see another cosplayer or others will compliment my characters and sometimes I’ve even ended up doing stuff with people after the daily farm as well. Those moments during capture point trading are simple enough that you can hold a conversation if you want to. Plenty of people stay silent as well of course so you can choose how social you want to be.

Is this a ligit thread? I mean one game of PvP can be all it takes some days, other days it’s like what? View a vista, gather, do some events, and a JP. How is that not casual friendly?

Not everyone is willing to play PvP. Not everyone have a character of every profession, or enough to cover the requested “win with X”.

Well, you don’t have to get all your dailies in PvP rooms either. Even without the two profession specific ones you’re going to get at least one daily, probably 2 if you don’t get the “play a un/ranked match” daily. Just get the one you can and all you need are 2 from the regular PvE ones. Just another easy option is all.

You can all assume that each of the daily tasks take about the same time, like 1 to 15 minutes. They should. If they make something that takes players longer to get the 2 gold than they can by many other ways, why would they do it?

For me, a jumping puzzle takes about an hour, and mesmer portals are a cheat.
If and when I do the last 4 remaining jumping puzzles, I guarantee it won’t be for a daily reward ever.

I’m glad so many find the JP’s easy. They simply are not an equitable task compared to the other dailys for many of us, not for lack of effort.

I don’t think they necessarily have to take the same amount of time. Some of the daily chests give bigger rewards for doing the “tougher” dailies. The chest rewards might not be proportionate to difficulty for many, but that’s highly subjective.

First I have no complaint about the current dailies even though I’m just a PVE guy that’s not all that good. Getting 3 is not that hard ( usally 2 will be a vista and foraging… easy and quick )….even if the 3rd one is 4 events on a given map. It might take a little time but very doable…. 15 mins tops for that one.

But reading through this, the PvP thing caught my interest

I really suck at PvP and I don’t want to let down my team and worse, being called out for that.

I had no idea there was a daily thing where the idea was not to be good, just tag and die. Who would have guessed.

Anyhow I tried it….even at that, I guess I screwed up. Someone said to me something about C camps. They didn’t call me an idiot or anything, just told me to stop. I was only following another person and had no idea I shouldn’t do that.

I guess what I’m trying to say is even though its easy, there is still a learning curve.

Each room is different and has it’s own set of rules. If you’re new to a room or confused I’ve found people are always willing to explain things if you ask. They may say rules are in the “motd” which means “message of the day”. It’s in the chat at the start of the match or you can view it from the menu. My guess is you were in a room where they were trading “B” capture point so you weren’t supposed to cap “C”. You can always spectate too if you just want to watch and see how the room works before you enter as well.

For the most part they do, but today? No, I’m not doing Dragon Stand anymore…I did it several times but I’m not going to try to wait around for a timed map to succeed in order to do a daily. I hate that place and its timers, fails, and the whole thing. No events until the main event is in full swing…too bad for you if it isn’t. Jumping puzzles, nope not for me..but for the most part there are other options, today’s just no..no nasty stand…and no jumping puzzles. So…another day I guess. Its been pretty often though lately that there are no other options besides two non jumping puzzles out of the four, so the third one, to get the daily completer, well no options, can only do two instead of three. So no…I don’t like the change at all. But who am I? No one…a girl is no one…

If you’re interested I think you should try Daily Rooms . They will increase your selection from a possible 4 to up to 8 to choose from. They are custom PvP rooms ran by PvE players and most are open to everyone. Check out my video on Daily Rooms if you want to see what they are like without going in yourself.

Players are typically very nice and helpful to new players, just let them know you’re new and someone will walk you through it.

Fixed that for you

However, the point is TS is pretty much required.

It’s really not. Post Reset TT on NA shows daily that it’s not required.

I personally see TTS’ TS req for TT (wow that’s a tongue twister) in the same light as 100% rep guilds: not necessary but it’s their choice to have that requirement which I personally don’t wish to adhere to, and have done/will do the content without by joining other groups who don’t ask it of me.

I meant that TS is pretty much required to run with TTS. Yeah, I’ve seen chat TT groups succeed as well but I feel TT requires it more than most content in GW2 which is 1111111 easy. Yeah I don’t like 100% rep guilds either.

Edit: Haha yup, all the T’s and S’s in this thread are getting me all tongue twisted too haha.

Teamspeak isn’t exactly required for TTS though. Its nice if you have it though, as it helps with coordination. You don’t even have to have a mic/talk.

If you don’t have TS they’re likely to leave you for another map though and it’s difficult to follow them. I don’t blame TTS for that though, TT kinda requires it more-so than most content in GW2. However, the point is TS is pretty much required.

Used to save a guild slot for them but it got obnoxious re-registering all the time so I just left after I got my acheevs.

If the WvW poll were any indication though it’s that the “general” player base is not nearly as single minded as most people probably think and “just do what the players want” is far more difficult to determine than many of us realize.

Also I came into this thread expecting a lot more drama. Got popcorn and everything. C’mon guys!

I agree with this 100%. Including your awesome Gravity Falls reference.

Someone quoted me?! Hold on while I get my armor on, grabbing my katana, jumping on my high horse which will surely be beaten once dead… This forum warrior’s ready for battle!

Oh you agree with me? High five o/*\o

Yeah Gravity Falls was awesome! I need more though… T-T

I think if it were something like how WvW proof of heroics currency are used to unlock hero points I’d be fine with it. Personally I don’t mind doing the hearts myself, but part of the appeal of heart quests has always been that you can complete them in multiple ways. I’m all for alternative ways to unlock WPs, Hearts, etc. Maybe not “buy to unlock everything” but I’d be cool with “play other things that you want to do instead”.

Personally I don’t create names that reference pop culture of any kind because it makes me feel unoriginal. I also don’t make my characters look like something from pop culture, like a particular character from an anime. (“Cosplay” creeps me out actually)

I don’t see why it has to be lazy necessarily. Just make it a mastery that unlocks after X world map completions and then you play toward earning that. Maybe a “cartographer” mastery or something.

The only problem I see with this is the lack of mastery points, also, this would mean ANet need to find a way to track how many world completion a player has done. Then how many would be fair? 2, 3, 4 times?

Pretty sure ANet could figure all that stuff out…

I’m sure they could if they where inclined. I can’t see them doing it though. A lot of work for no real reason.

No more work than creating any other mastery. And for no real reason is subjective. Topics like these keep popping up because there is a demand for them.

The same as people.keep asking for.mounts, a DX upgrade and weapon dying. ANet have said they are not happening, yet we still get people asking for them. Just because there is “demand” fir something by no means makes it a good idea, or something that should happen.

As for no more work, you know alot about how the game engine works then. And how easy or hard some things are to implement. If you remember they wanted to do many thing with the mastery tracks, but a lot of what they wanted to do never made it. Maybe it was not as easy to do as they first thought, or I may of just not been the right fit. Nothing is simply added to a game.

If it did get added, I’d bet money we’d have people complaining about how they have to fill out the track. There where enough when HoT lunched.

Doesn’t necessarily make it a bad idea either. If there’s demand there’s potential to consider it.

No, I am a dumb player and know little of what’s difficult and easy to implement in game. Just saying I think it could work as a mastery, more masteries are probably going to be made, and I see no reason a cartographer mastery would be outside of ANet’s capabilities than any other mastery.

Anything that gets added has people complaining. If you feel people should stop being lazy and just “work” for things they want I’m sure you’d be ok with people “working” to earn a mastery as well.

Thats sad to hear. As a guild leader i love to see what others make and decorate so i try to keep it open as much as possible. After running into some issues with home made jumping puzzle contests (where some members where building ‘shortcuts’ instead of following the puzzle as it was made by the contest holder) as well as hitting the max decorations cap we had to limit acces a bit… but members can always request it.
In addition in the mean time we build up an Alliance guild hall that is shared with various guilds in which everyone can join and can have decoration permissions + decorate as much as they like, although the max decorations limit in a hall is still a potential issue.

Yeah guild halls are awesome and have a lot of potential but those issues hinder them greatly. I think if guild halls were more accessible to individuals like wildstar housing we’d be seeing a lot more awesome creations. I’m a bit torn because it’s awesome that guilds have something to work toward and slowly build together, but it stinks that every time I place something it limits someone else. If I had my own housing hall I could make stuff guilt free.

Well if you include daily rooms alongside PvE it’s 8 dailies so…

please open the pvp ui and click on the 4th tab called game browser. you will see a list of custom arenas, with the most filled servers at the top of the list.

among these most filled servers, there are about 28340 servers with the word “daily” or “dailies” in the title. (but the search function is kinda not useful.)

Thank you for explaining that a little better! I didn’t know that was a thing (as I don’t PvP at all.) However it still begs the question: Why would adding even one more daily to the PvE rotation be a bad thing? I totally get what you’re saying and that it would be a completely viable option to just do the PvP server thing, but it also sounds a little like a cheating way of doing things. Maybe AN doesn’t care or doesn’t have a problem with it but it seems like a poor solution to the greater problem. I don’t think people posting here are looking for a cop-out for doing dailies, just more variety (though I know there are plenty who will take the easy way over actual effort.) It screams of a broken system when people have to fake it through, so why not add options that don’t need cheating?

I don’t know ANet’s reasoning precisely but I’d imagine they use dailies to encourage the population into certain areas of the game, encourage playing multiple game modes so you are kept busy longer with more content, etc.

If you have 1 more PvE daily then PvP and WvW would require one each as well to keep things even. So the 12 options become 15. Maybe they have metrics saying that would disperse the population too thinly, or that 5 options make people likely to not venture out of their comfort zone. Also maybe for people who feel a need to complete every daily (irrational I know) tend to tolerate 12 but give up at 15, burn out and quit the game.

Pure conjecture on my part, but I enjoy seeing the JPs populated and I always find plenty of dailies from all game modes. If ANet finds otherwise, hopefully they’ll add a 5th daily but it’s working fine for me.

As for “cheating” PvP, the daily rooms do not progress players toward getting that diamond icon by their name so they don’t get the prestige true PvP players do. Far as I can tell you just get credit in reward tracks that give you dungeon/PvE map currencies and weapon/armor skins. Stuff you’d get from doing each respective area anyway. It doesn’t hurt the PvP players in any way because they have their own instances to play in. It’s like taking your kid brother in the back yard to play soccer and taking turns kicking the ball into the goal. Not even taking up the practice fields in the park.

If anyone is interested in seeing what a daily room is like I made a video introducing it: PvP Daily Rooms

I think if players truly want to quit they delete their characters thus freeing up their names. If they don’t, even if they’re really salty and swear they will never play again, I think a small part of them is keeping it JIC.

I potentially would’ve tried SWTOR again, but after server merges my characters names were deleted so I didn’t even bother attempting. I’d imagine the situation wouldn’t be too different if that happened for GW2 as well.
