Those skins look beautiful. I can’t wait to go home and agonize over which two to pick! I’m just glad I get to pick two. Not sure if I’ll go with the staff or two one-handeds.
Did I miss it, or is Anet not making any comments about this concern? I feel like their silence is just adding fuel to the fire and may ultimately reduce sales while folks like me wait to see what the end results are before deciding whether or not to buy.
Oh god, I forgot how they like to tie in the elite spec collections with adventures. I really hope they don’t do that again.
That would likely be a deal-breaker for me. It was one of the things I hated about HOT.
I really like the skins, and have a lot of tickets with which to get em, but I still don’t agree with the choices made with making these bound.
As far as being special, there’s no lore behind them (yet), and if they really were special, they would’ve been obtainable via gameplay, maybe associated with the little tidbits of Living World we’ve been getting.
I don’t usually think things like this are worth commenting on, but in this case, I mostly hope our opinions matter enough to prevent trends in the future.
Pretty sure its Anet’s way of saying you need to purchase gems to obtain future skins. Can you really blame them though. They are trying to make the game survive off the gem store. They have over 200 employees and a vast amount of servers so I don’t blame them for making this kind of choice.
I would of strongly prefered a monthly fee and removing free to play but can’t do much about that now. Games become free to play usually always follows the downfall of the game.
The spent at least $200,000 on prize money for a single tournament. Doesn’t sound like they’re hurting for money.
Biggest fear: All the grumbling here on the forum.
You do realize that forum perusing is optional? It’s not even that bad lately, especially compared to either games.
Sometimes the forums are more entertaining than the game. Folks can get pretty worked up here.
I agree. Let’s also add those first responders to the list. Those folks who risk their lives every day. Also, the military who do their best to keep the hounds at bay.
Heck, I even love you smart-alecky little Asura that always talk down to the rest of us.
Also not big on the Jormag plot. The snow zones are pretty, but not pretty enough to be trapped in for an entire expansion. The zones should be reasonably contrasting in order to hold people’s attention.
This is suddenly my biggest fear. I’m scared they may focus the next expansion on Jormag. I will have to listen to that butchered pronunciation for an entire expansion. Legions of GEORmags, everywhere.
Also, if Claw of GEORmag is any indication, the fears will be constant and applied liberally.
How is Jormag supposed to be pronounced? I always assumed it was pronounced according to basic English pronunciation guidelines which would be “Geor-mag”.
I guess it could be French and pronounced with a soft “j”. “Bon Jormag”.
Or maybe it’s Spanish and the J makes an “H” sound like Jorge. “Hormag”. Sounds dirty.
Just being goofy, of course. How is it actually supposed to be pronounced?
It’s not a gay thing, it’s a gun thing.
If you want to change the world then march against the craziness that is the right to own an assault rifle, a weapon designed specifically to kill many human beings in a short space of time.
If you don’t want to change the world then march for EW, the cheese lover. (Um, do cheese lovers have a flag?)
It’s s not a gun thing, it’s a hate thing. Evil does not exist inside a gun .it exists inside the heart of those who pull the trigger for evil purposes. The second amendment doesn’t exists so we can go hunting. It exists to protect America’s citizens from America’s government.
My observation is, that these changes are not good enough, i see a huge ammount of people still talking about the adventures as a total no fun activity and super difficult to do, to earn the Mastery Points. Map chat, Guild chat, all the same. But what is getting more is also the bashing of ppl who cant do the adventures/ not getting silver, gold, by ppl who did it and claim its easy. The elitist behaviour is groing and i think, its something that should be prevented. Make the Mastery Points otherwise avaialable and hide other stuff behind these unnecessary activities. Or add more time to all the levels, no matter if its Bronze, Silver or Gold. Then there are ppl who claim, well make the Story Achievements, well same goes here, some of them are extremely difficult. To much of a difficultly for a game that claims it is made for the majority of gamers, who are not the so called Pros. Seen so many comments on that. Fact is the gap between the normal player and the ‘pros’ is widening and comes with a lot of negativity. Core Game Goals should be accessable by all players. That’s what i think, knowing that there are other contrary opionions out there.
Everything about this expansion feels like it’s designed to separate the casual players such as myself from the elitists who talk about how they faceroll through every piece of the new content and tell the rest of us to “git gud”. My whole attitude towards the game has soured and the amount of time I play has dropped off significantly.
When I do play, it’s usually in the core maps because the new ones just frustrate me. Not good enough to solo. I tried AB last night, but there was only 1 map in LFG and it was full so I was stuck on what felt like an unpopulated map. Maybe I’ll try again tonight.
I pre-purchased HOT and do not believe it was worth $50. I have four GW2 accounts (bought on sale for $10 each).
I’ll prob buy HOT for one of my secondary accounts when it reaches $25, but only if it comes with a character slot. Revenant does me no good if all my character slots are already full. Otherwise, I’ll exercise patience and see what the next expansion includes, since I’m sure the core + HOT will be included.
I love being able to play other games during content droughts without worrying about my subscription fees.
I will patiently await new content release. Until then I’ll keep checking the forums to see what’s new. I picked up Dragon Age: Revelation for $20 at Walmart. That should tide me over until the next quarterly update or maybe until I pick up the Mass Effect trilogy.
I haven’t tried the new shatterer yet. Synopsis is use cc on some crystals and show up 30 minutes early?
There is no way on God’s green earth that I will pre-purchase another video game. I learned my lesson the first time.
Does it mean we won’t get any story unless we pay for it ? No new content for a year and BAM – here is the expansion for 40$ ?
We already know we are getting a third season of the living story, we are getting it this year in fact. However, it won’t be starting before the end of march.
Yes, I too was expecting it to come sooner but with them working on the second expansion and on everything else (such as the WvW revamp, polishing HoT, more raid wings, balance updates and so on) I can’t really say that I blame them.
There is a saying about having too many irons in the fire. Maybe Anet should focus on finishing the task at hand (HOT) before spending too many resources on the next expansion. I know thwy wanted money from us, but they could at least give us the rest of the expansion rather than continuing to drag it out. How many new legendary weapons have been released so far? Three…
Nope. I regret my purchase. Unless the next expansion involves a new campaign, I won’t be buying it. Anet has effectively ruined GW2 for me. I still play, but not in the new maps and certainly not in the raids.
Anet completely botched the release of HOT and haven’t given any information about the rest of the content. A prime example is the Legendary issue. A major selling point of HOT was new legendary weapons. So far, three have been released.
bought expansion wheres extra character slot

It was utterly ridiculous for Anet to sell HOT with a new profession and a total of four maps for $50 and not throw in a character slot. It was a complete effort to get folks to spend more money for the additional spot.
It really appeared to me that Anet demonstrated their desire to milk all the money out of their product rather than create a quality product and let the money roll in. To them it’s all about the bottom line, not the customer satisfaction. They’ve got their work cut out for them if they want to pry any more money out of me.
I’m not willing to do the tasks associated with getting the core mastery points so I simply don’t participate. I don’t plan on building a legendary, so that whole line is out. Not willing to farm five more points so I can res folks faster (effort vs. reward).
After the April update, I’ll see if I like playing the new maps. If so, I may try to get some of those skills, but only if I feel the effort will be worth the reward. As things stand now, I simply don’t care enough to put forth the effort.
I’ve got about 15 hours. Explored the first and second maps, and made it to the third. I mainly go there to farm the flax spot and get HPs for my characters. Guess I haven’t done the whole “git good” that other players keep talking about. Keep in mind that I usually spend about an hour at a time playing video games so ive never done any of those meta things or even tried a raid. Doesn’t fit in my time-table, nor does spending 10+ hours learning to do raids sound like my idea of fun.
I know a lot of folks will tell me to “git good” but I play to relax. I spend my brain power making IRL money and use GW2 to relax as time permits.
I was in high school when Purple Rain came out.
I was told several times to L2P so I went back to the core maps and spend more time L2P Netflix. I still log on, but mainly to farm some mats and maybe get some skill points towards the new specializations on my alts.
Interested in seeing NCSoft’s 2016 Q1 report in a couple of months.
Not a fan of the first expansion. Unless the new one is equivalent to Nightfall or at least Eye of the North, I won’t be participating. Still regretting purchasing HOT and its four maps.
The core game had 8 profession and several dozen maps. You want another $50-60 out of me? Pony up something comparable, not 4 maps, 1 profession, and 0 character slots.
Also, what is the BS about LS3? How many months has it been since HOT was released and all we’ve seen so far is rehashed content and gliding.
If Anet ever wants another dollar from this player, they will produce either Elona or Cantha. I don’t buy outfits. I refuse to play anything associated with HOT (except Revenant), and am bitter and angry about that expansion. You want money from any of my four accounts? Get busy on the new continent. 4 maps and one new profession will not cut it!
BrotherBelial,
What new maps? All I’m heard so far is just quality of life improvements and gem store updates. I’ve heard nothing about the continuation of LS3 except that it will come at a slower pace so they can multi-task between LS3 and their next expansion. Please enlighten me!
You are much nicer than I am. Hated almost everything about it and am bitter and angry about the whole thing. It was nowhere close to worth $50. No word on any future improvments, but several updates to their stinking Gem Store. I doubt Anet will ever get another dime out of this long-time player. (Started when Elona came out).
I can’t imagine another MMO I’d be willing to play, but I’m very dissatisfied with that expansion. Thanks God for Netflix. Soooo many good shows to watch. Criminal Minds, NCIS, Supernaturals, The X-Files. The list goes on.
I was displeased with HOT, but a quick glance at the game images with their eastern aesthetics and over-sexed armor sent me scurrying back to GW2. Definitely not a threat to pull me away!
You’re right. I’m a bad player. I’ll just stick to solitaire from now on.
I agree with OP. Strongly disappointed in HOT.
Didn’t like the new maps.
Didn’t like the masteries.
Didn’t like the mini-games.
The whole expansion feels like a gold-sink/time-sink.
very little to appeal to casual/solo players like me. (I know: L2P)
Liked Revenant, but not adding a character slot was chicken-kitten.
Very thankful they lowered the HPs to 250 from 400.
not sure if I will purchase from Anet again. We’ve just drifted apart: they went one direction and I went another.
So Anets long game is for folks to buy more BL keys in hope of getting a permanent bank. Sneaky!
I can’t believe A-net expects us to spend nine bucks for one slot. I would pay $9 for a bag slot that characters across the board could access, but one spot is borderline moronic. First they trick us to spend $50 for four maps, then this. Anet better learn to provide more equitablility if they want any more of my money.
HOT alone isn’t worth full price in my opinion. 4 maps and one new profession. Doesn’t even include a character slot for the new profession: you have to buy that with gems.
I was one of the folks that didn’t like HOT. At this point any expansion would be a hard sell. It would have to lie somewhere between the Elona expansion and the EOTN one to spark my interest and I don’t think they have it in them anymore.
I have yet to do any of the wintersday stuff. For some odd reason they decided to give no experience for killing the skritt inside the giant presents, along with no drops. Anets mentality is truely baffling sometimes.
I’ve been playing Guild Wars since Cantha (Elona was my favorite). For most of the three years that GW2 has been out, it is the only game I’ve played. HOT has changed my entire opinion about gaming. I absolutely refuse to pre-purchase any game, and will most likely not buy anymore expansions for GW2. I can’t play the HOT maps without getting frustrated.
I was so disappointed in those 3 maps ( never reached last one) that I will most likely not purchase any video games for 2016. (I see an electric smoker and a deck in my future instead.
I am of the opinion thzt hey just need to give up on GW2 and start on GW3 with a clean slate. Should be ready by the time everyone realizes what a farce Gore was.
I play GW2 for enjoyment as a leisure activity but the new maps are just an exercise in frustration. Tried them for a couple of weeks, meven got to the third map, but it’s group content and I’m not a group guy, nor am I a good enough player to solo it by myself. Add the low populations and the lack of waypoints to the dense mobs of vets and I can’t even get around the maps half the time.
2-hour time commitment to a map in a game? Ha! The only thing I want to do for 2 hours straight is sleep. My average time in a game is 30 min to an hour. I don’t want to spend that time trying to lfg for a full map.
The whole Xpac feels geared towards group play, which is a huge shift from the vanilla game which was much more casual. Also, they managed to tie in “adventures” way too often. I wanted an expansion, not a series of mini-games.
This was my last purchase relating to GW2. Anet does not seem to be the same company that created the GW1 series. My personal opinion is that they need to throw in the towel on GW2 and start on a new sequel (GW3). I think they’ve already dug too deep of kitten with this game. If they start now, it could be ready by the time the new Star Wars trilogy is out on Blu ray.
I gave up on those maps weeks ago. My time in GW2 dropped off considersbly after that expansion was released. This doesn’t feel like the same company that created GW1.
Apparently those large explosive presents on the PVE maps spew creatures you have to kill in order to collect a present, but those creatures don’t give any XP. Kill 5-6 creatures and get a wintersday present.
No loot, no XP. No thanks.
As much as I wanted to like the expansion, it just wasn’t my thing. I’m sure it’s a great expansion, but I’m a casual player and tend to run solo, which means that the new maps are just an exercise in frustration unless I happen to find a group to run with.
I’m not geared up enough to even bother to try the raids, plus I can’t spend hours at a time tied to a computer. I leave that to folks more dedicated than me.
I hear good things about Dragon Age: Inquisition. I might try that for a few weeks, then see if I can get my mojo back for GW2.
As much as I loved playing GW2, I found the expansion to be an act of frustration. I’m what some folks call “a casual scrub” and generally ran the core maps solo. These new maps are significantly harder, with very few WP’s. If you have a group of friends you run with, or are a pretty decent player, then you should be fine in the new maps.
I’m on the verge of taking a break after just the first couple of maps. Barely reached the third and never saw the last one. Too many days of logging in and not being able to find folks to run with and not skilled enough to run solo.
No. The current expansion looks pretty, but is designed for groups but the groups have already moved on. Spent two days looking for a group in VB so I could unlock WPs, get skill points, and do events. Every time I asked, folks were waiting to do raids. The truth of the matter is, I lack the patience to log on and spend half an hour looking for a group so I can start playing.
I’m too much of a “casual” player and am too far behind the curve to even play this expansion. I know they can’t please everybody, and that a lot of folks like the new content, but it’s not for me. I never made it past Auric Basin.
Been playing since Factions, but this was my last purchase.
I am about fed up with this expansion. How can I manage to get credit for the event (bronze) but not a single drop for killing a Legendary Wyvern? Every time I log in to Verdant Brink, I end up leaving mad. I’ve been playing GW2 since pre-release but am about fed up. If it weren’t a violation of policy, I would just sell the whole kitten thing.
Regret purchasing this expansion.

One week it’s all cupcakes and rainbow, the next week it’s just stale pastries and rain. Hang in there folks!
By “classic pack” are you refering to the core game that came out a little over three years ago? If so, this was discussed ad nauseum months ago. We’re on a different rampage now because HOTM is hard, a grind, and is “different”.
Last week, it was all cupcakes and rainbows. Now it’s just stale pastries and rain.
It’s definitely a lot different than the core game. I’m having to learn a whole new build and find some armor that’s a little more forgiving. I admit that I’ve gotten frustrated and rage-quit a few times, but I get over it and try again. It’s daunting and a little frustrating, especially since the “elite” specialties aren’t any more powerful than the core ones. I certainly won’t be unlocking the elites on every character (I’m an alt-oholic).
At least the Masteries are account-bound!
This expansion has definitely made me leave my comfort zone. I tried playing thru VB with my thief in zerker gear. Died. Died. Died. Was quite frustrating. I’m going to have to get more appropriate armor, and change up my skill bar to add in some survival.
It’s definitely a learning curve, and maddening at times when I can’t find a path, but it’s huge and new and exciting.
As an added bonus, on more than one occasion I’ve expressed my exasperation in chat. Each time, folks have offered good tips and offered to help. Thanks to my fellow players for being such a great community!

Good point about being called “elite”. They don’t really seem elite, though. Just more variety, which is definitely a good thing. Either way, Since I have a level 80 in the ach class, I’m gonna have to make some hard choices about who gets played and who gets benched.

There’s a lot of information and rumors flying around right now. I heard that in order to fully unlock the elite skills, you have to first get world completion. Can this be confirmed or disproved? As a player with a ton of alts, this would make unlocking all of the elites a herculean task for this casual player.
I just got to level 1 of gliding. Can I now just jump off of cliffs and sail around, or do I need wings of some sort? As much as Anet dumbed down the core game because it was too complicated for new players, they sure had no problem in throwing us to the wolves (mordrem) with this expansion.
- how do I glide?
- do I need a parachute?
- How do we earn favor?
- how do we access the canopy?
- how many mastery points are there and how many do we need to unlock everything?
- thanks Anet for making the mastery system account-wide.
- a manual or some direction would be. nice.
- dunno about the other maps yet, but VB sure the is hard to solo. Only found 1 map with a decent number of folks on it.
- shout-out to my fellow players: I got frustrated several times while xploring, getting lost, dying (a lot). When I expressed my exasperation in chat, many of you were very helpful, offering good advice and tips. Thanks for talking me off the edge and beignsuch a great community!
