Ugh..what’s the fuss about? LB ranger is never really a problem to me unless, they are on higher ground than I am ( walls/hills), other than that they are easy prey to my traps. I still find condi bunker Rangers tougher to deal with.

I use rapid fire to track stealth enemies and to defend myself in close range combat.

Please Anet, please limit the AoE cap to 2 instead of 5!

I fully support this, those carebear happy go life pve players can simply auto ignore the map chat/duel invite if they wish to.

@Terravos You ‘do’ realize the CDI thread ended only a couple of weeks ago, correct? Also everything mentioned in the thread isn’t expected to happen, there’s also the blatant disregard you have for the current Grandmaster Traits in the game at the moment. Some folks do run berserker builds with sword or players who enjoy using Bark Skin’s trait as an indicator to back out of a fight. Do be more considerate of others instead of being an uneducated and utterly outrageous waste of characters on this post I just typed.

I’m not even taking the CDI into account, the last Balance Patch was in December, That should of been more then enough time to come up with viable traits.

As for folks running berserker builds with sword or players who enjoy bark skin, That’s great….I’m sure some people enjoy Bearbow as well..but adding more crappy traits because some players enjoy crappy traits and specs doesn’t make those crappy traits better now does it?

Lol he always thinks rangers are superior to other classes. I personally think rangers are only good/decent in roaming/1 v 1 fight, but still subpar compared to the metas (PU mesmer, decap engie, P/D thieves, warriors, etc). Rangers are high tier in dungeon? Oh boy… Eventhough i must say i do quite well in dungeon, but this statement is hilarious. And i have mained rangers since beta

for underwater, jelly blue fish is my fav hands down the aoe chill is just too good to pass.

Why people keep saying trolls, I say I have no issue with trolls, I kill them 100% PVE = no prob. Trolls not make you fall only have knockdown, but it not 1/2 as annoying as Drakehound! You must be new player, think trolls fall……Pls trolls not in WvW only ogres. Ogres have pets not trolls.

Drakehound, Wolf, Hyena, dog pets all dog knockdown when I try to heal. Wolf scare me make me run away interupt my skills.

Then theres the dog one, Murallow or somting, its like a furless dog….Spraying poison everywhere, but then its like BEAR and goes in water after me when I run away….

I can regen at 330 hps on my thief in stealth. What is the comparable regen rate for regen rangers. Warriors are much higher – 400 hps I think.

Over 100k healing/minute if they really try. Closer to 50-60k under regular conditions.

This is my clerics tank. With full “Life” stacks, i generally get 340~ish HPs from perma regen (w/2% medic bonus from WvW score). +160hps from signet and 125/3sec from trait. Grand total of 443hps… or something close to that. Max healing power (full ascended, stacks, food + other stuff) and regen duration will get you 351 HPS from regen and 175 HPS from signet, but that is absolute MAX. So ranger max HPS (perma regen + signet + trait) is 567.6 HPS.
IF you look at HP over 60 seconds, you get 567.6 from signet, shout regen and trait + 320 from spirit (yes atm its 480 but that is getting fixed) + 430(x2 = 860) from Troll Unguent (Healing spring direct heal + regen is better but healing spring regen is weaker then shout regen, thus overall HPS goes down A LOT).

for a grand total of. 860+ 567.6+320 * 60 = 104856 HPM…. No ally buffing you….

Nice regeneration, but I can’t see you killing anyone with that build.

anyway I think it’s time to bring back the jag after this patch kicks off. Even if you choose to slot guard, the Perma stealth on jag would significantly boost it’s dps

I tried out the YouTube version of this build on a sPvP dueling server last night. It was interesting, to me, that for a condition focused build, it doesn’t seem to have a very high condition application rate.

It makes me wonder if a similar build using Power, HP, toughness gear would be as effective.

Otherwise, it was a pretty fun setup. What do you find to be the downsides in WvW solo roaming?

I have done that, basically they can’t kill you but you can’t kill them either lol. There are simply not enough dps to do that

Lets run through a little scenario that you’d have to build into the Ranger just by removing pets (ignoring the very obvious problem with pets not working).

Ranger is jumped by a thief and immediately tells his wolf to attack the thief. .5 seconds later, the wolf lunges onto the thief knocking him down.

As the Thief begins to get up, the Ranger instructs his wolf to howl and Fears the thief before he can respond by dodging.

As the Thief runs in fear the Ranger swaps pets to his hound and tells it to attack the Thief.

At the same moment the Fear ends, the hound lunges and knocks the Thief down.

Just as the Thief is about to recover, the Hound howls immobilizing the Thief so they can’t move.

Throughout all of this until the very end you’re plinking away for 1.5k – 3k a second and at the very end you either knockback the Thief with your longbow to line up a swoop+hilt+maul or simply rapid fire knowing at this point the Thief has no option left but to stealth and your arrows will track through and still hit.

Now we might scoff at this, but I can pull this scenario off nearly 100% of the time in duals and roaming. Now granted this pales in comparison to what my Warrior is capable of with merely swinging a Hammer, but it’s still a hell of a lot to give up.

So whatever you have in store other than simply increasing our damage, it has to give me enough power to offset all that utility I lose as well.

But that’s not what the OP asked… lets suppose you did somehow manage to find someway to allow me to continue doing this with a stowed pet that also allowed me to do 30% more damage or something silly like that. Would I consider the class complete? No… as it stands the mere fact that this class doesn’t have good AE or burst means power, my preferred way to play this class, will never work no matter what happens to the pet or the ranger’s sustained damage.

Some of you guys are really depressing. Rangers shouldn’t be struggling with almost any class in 1v1, PU Mesmers and some other condition builds excluded. About the only thing I glean from most of the posts here on the Ranger sub-forum is that a lot of you guys need to step up your game.

Ranting aside — It’s tough to make an all around build for any class. PvE enthusiasts swear by Zerker stats only and that’s suicide in WvW for any class other than a Thief. The build I use now was designed to be a roaming spec for WvW and a good enough PvE spec for when I want to run dungeons/LS content with guildies.

You seem to defend ranger class a lot. My only lvl 80 class is ranger, and i ll have to admit that right now in wvw, we are inferior to the other current FOTM classes out there. Rangers are decent, thats all to it.
Maybe you’d care to share your build, so i could figure what i have been missing.

Have you tested this build in wvw as well? I use the same trait setup but I use dire armor with undead rune instead so it’s more conditions heavy. I am just wondering if I should invest in rampager armor as suggested.

haha yep thats me, was fun. Although i abandoned that build for very long time already. while it was effective, its just not my playstyle at all; too passive, and I can’t stand the sight of those pesky spirits. Now i am working on both trapper or signet builds. Hence i came here XD.

i will be posting such a vid shortly. been compiling my wvw footage that ive captured over the last 2 months or so. anyway, i wasnt insulting you in any way, so youre being a little oversensitive. i actually complimented you, but youre too kitten to read it. LB sucks, and your vids will not convince any experienced pvp’ers otherwise. you would be doing about 30% (estimate) more effective damage with a power/crit SB.

but as long as youre having fun, thats all that matters.

Very good tips! Since i use dual bow myself i tend to use rapidfire on them to pinpoint their location while they are in stealth, then the rest is the same as faux’s suggestion.
