Raid Feedback

Seeing as how pretty much all groups are out of the raid by now and it probably will not open up again this beta weekend, I will talk about it now and shed some light on the boss and my opinion.

Vale Guardian is the first boss of Spirit Vale. The boss is split into 3 phases and 2 add phases. The first phase goes from 100% of his health until he reaches 66% of his health. At this point, he will split into the 3 trash mobs that were faced previously. Once those 3 mobs are killed, he will reform and phase 2 begins. Phase 2 is the same as phase 1 except that he adds more attacks. Once he reaches 33%, he will split again, then you have to clear the 3 trash mobs. Once trash is dead, he will reform again (Phase 3), and will proceed to continue out the fight with some more new mechanics.

I will not describe the mechanics of each phase too much in detail since this post will be extremely long, but I will say the fight itself is not over complicated once you understand the general gist of it, but it is a long one, and 1 mistake from any member of your raid and you will be in trouble of wiping.

My main concern with the fight is the timer added to the fight. You have 8 minutes to complete the entire fight (all phases) otherwise the boss will enrage and gain a 500% damage increase in which he will proceed to 1-2 shot most players. The fight feels very over-tuned and I believe will require some number adjusting from the devs before launch. Without talking specific numbers, the boss itself has a lot of health, so much health that you would need to have the raid pulling a very high dps in order to down the boss in the 8 minutes given. It is difficult to achieve this required dps even standing still and not worrying about mechanics unless you min/maxed the entire group. Talking to a few groups that got to attempt Vale Guardian, none of them were able to successfully maintain that level of dps, while doing the mechanics of the fight on top of it. Also, the fight has two add phases as well, with the red guardian being a purely condition only mob, meaning you have to account for this as well when min/maxing. Brainstorming with other players, it appeared that an optimal composition would have 1 player tank the boss, 6 players in zerker gear, and 3 players in sinister (condi) gear in order to even have a chance at killing him within the 8 minutes. To claim that “the berserk meta will die” with raids coming out is a very false statement when looking at this boss in its current state.

Overall, I believe the mechanics and the fight itself are fair and doable when not under the pressure of a timer. The boss has enough mechanics to where groups will wipe often enough to them alone. I believe that the timer at least needs a 2-5 minute increase in order for the boss to actually be killed within the timer if Anet chooses to go the timer route.

A lot of us pre-purchased Heart of Thorns to get access to the beta with the intention of experimenting and testing the raid content. As soon as the beta went live, we updated, made new classes, and waited outside the raids, only to get inside and get booted immediately. If you were lucky enough to get to make it inside of the raid, you would grind through three trash mobs, only to get dc’d by the boss. Most of us waited for hours for the UI to be fixed outside of the portal, only to be greeted with forum posts saying “we’re working on it”. After having it confirmed as working by a developer as “fixed”, we logged back on in an attempt to get back into our raids. If you had the misfortune of being tagged during this time any change of map or dc would leave you done for the night. This didn’t just affect those of us attempting to test raid content, it affected the commanders who were participating in reset night on wvw, Guild leaders taking their guildies through missions, and even people who were generally helping others and were tagged up at the time.Due to the extent of the issues and the hype that came around the raids and the Beta Weekend in general, I feel like some form of compensations would be a nice condolence to “heal some of the wounds” not just to the beta players, but everyone affected by the unfortunate bugs yesterday, as well as to boost the moral of the community for the expansion to come.

Diesel Dog [Obey] Tarnished Coast

The self entitlement in this post hurts me

It’s a beta weekend, it’s for testing purposes, not early access. The Squad UI was severely broken and caused issues across the entire game, not just raids. They need to test this stuff on the live server’s so that they can find the bugs, and later down the line fix them. Rather it now than when the game actually releases.

There was no self entitlement at all in that post, just a person with this thing called an “opinion.”

If they really truly want to test stuff on live servers, there are these things called PTR servers they could have implemented that are not connected to the main servers, but still act as normal live servers. If stuff happens on PTR servers, it does not affect the main game, and they can test everything with people who bought the beta or whatever.

But Anet refuses to do it. Talk about a backwards company who appears to be stuck in archaic times.

It’s important to note that raids were announced stating they were NOT shipping with HoT. There’s plenty of time for testing, it’ll all be alright.

Thanks anet for trying for this weekend, I know the past little bit must have been stressful and busy for you all. Good luck smoothing everything out, I can’t wait to try the raids out myself!

No, they are shipping 2 weeks after the HoT is released…. Not as much time as you think.

no under water content in hot?

The problem with underwater combat is that as it stands right now, its a simpler form of normal combat with no real unique features. Sure, you fight in 3D space but it is not really a change from the 2D. There is limited weapon choices (3 different ones) and half the utilities you have access to are unusable underwater.

Honestly, underwater combat would need a big overhaul. It would need its own utilities and a few more weapon types to choose from.

The thing is, as much as Anet wants to get rid of it, the problem becomes is there is an underwater based elder dragon. If we are going to ever kill all the elder dragons in the life of GW2, then we will eventually have to deal with it. So in the future, there technically could be a lot of content with underwater based combat which I welcome. So unless we are going to be sitting on ships or beaches the whole time for Bubbles, they are going to have some sea based zones for that elder dragon I would hope.

Or at the rate this game is developing, we will probably never get there before this game stops getting content updates or we go to GW3.

Actually it does fit… Its Asura invention at RATA SUM, unless you dont know anything about Rata Sum or Asura I guess you can think it wouldn’t fit hehe.

At the end of story of the 2nd release of SAB, there was a hint to a background story that takes place in Tyria between Moto and his colleagues. Apparently, Moto had stolen some stuff from his krewe, and his krewe want it back.

So yes, SAB does actually play a role in Tyria and is connected to the lore in a way.

Honestly (and Anet might be heading this direction), I would rather see Legendary Accessories first.

Look at the Preserved Queen Bee and the Poly-luminescent Jewels that give aura effects to your character. I can see them doing this with Legendary Accessories where they could change more of your animations etc. Easier grind for 1 piece and it gives you a unique effect as well.

Disclaimer: I am not racist or suggesting anything racist.

Both the female human and sylvari faces remind me of black people styled faces. Nothing wrong with it, and I actually find it a good change of pace since most of the previous faces look like white or Asian styled faces. Glad to see more ethnic diversity added to the game. One of the Norn female faces also is gingered style with the freckles which I also find really cute.

Total crap. Do you think for every patch they test every single world boss every time? If there were no changes to Teq, they wouldn’t have tested Teq. They are testing the things they change. A bug that creeps into one specific boss is impossible to track down unless they’re specifically testing for it.

Annoying sure. It’s annoying. But expecting every piece of older content to be tested every time there’s a patch…that’s not realistic.

This is where you’re wrong. Any “major” update that they push out, they test everything with the game. This is standard regression testing with automation. What you need to understand is that when the term “tested” is used, it does not entirely involve a QA person testing an aspect of the game. Automated testing is done for the vast majority of software, including video games. QA almost always does their manual testing on new feature sets or changed features. For the case of Teq, nothing has changed so they will utilize automated test scripts for that and if they don’t “fail” then it’s a “pass”.

Now who knows what type of automation they use to test this but these things do get tested with every update. I speak from experience and as a current dev manager in healthcare.

Actually I’m sure this isn’t true. They couldn’t possibly test EVERYTHING in the game every time a patch comes out. Patches used to come out every 2 weeks. You think they test EVERYTHING in the game every two weeks. Why would you believe that.

It probably takes long enough just to test the new stuff.

But the Teq thing particularly is problematic. You can’t beat it with 5 people. You need what, 50-60 testers minimum to get to the point where it bugged?

This isn’t reasonable to expect and I’m pretty sure others who program will tell you the same thing.

Ever watch the livestream when Teq first debuted at PAX? The devs had this nice little tool to set the health bar of Teq to whatever they wanted it to be at.

Its a bug. — Therefor its temporary. — Totally acceptable.

No, it’s not.

They delayed this update a week and still pushed it out wayyyyyyy too early. Rushing updates is just dumb.

If it wasn’t enough time to at least test to make sure something as basic as chat bubbles/down state not being green, random male charr noises coming from my human female character, and the plethora of other problems released this patch then it’s pretty obvious they’re understaffed. Tequatl is no exception to this and OP has every reason to be uptight about it.

Just about every patch I can remember downloading has resulted in bugs. It is not surprising that a large patch would have more than average. Am I thrilled that it took me a long time to finish loading my game client the second time? No. Do I enjoy having to go invisible and back again just to gain access to my guild chat? No. Do I like the green text and green downed meter? No. (Though I think that is a stab at St. Patrick’s day.) Was it nice that even my bug report window was bugged? No. Was I having a good time experiencing many other bugs through the night and/or hearing about them? No.

But I accept it because they’re bugs. They happen. They’re not the end of the world, or the game.

So yes, it is acceptable.
Throwing a hissy fit and saying it isn’t? You all can do better. This will pass.

Funny how all the people who are saying that it is acceptable. Try this kitten with any other game, and the community of that game will eat the Devs alive.

Somehow the Guild Wars 2 community is so backwards and brainwashed that they will say its okay to have a buggy and unplayable game. No, it isn’t acceptable, and it will never be acceptable. If you do not hold the devs of ANY video game to some sort of standard, you may as well just hand them your bank account now as they walk all over you.

But lets play devil’s advocate with you. At what point does it not become acceptable? When you cannot load into a certain map? When you cannot load into the game at all? What happens if you cannot login for a day? week? Month? Year? What happens tomorrow when you find that your account was deleted and you have to pay for the game again? You WILL draw the line somewhere and you WILL at some point say its unacceptable. Can I be there to tell you that you are throwing a hissy fit when you do decide that point? :-)

The only thing a change like this would create would be that it would make wave spawning events more difficult. Normally, you kill a wave and then you are out of combat between waves and your health regens before the next wave comes out. It would make it more challenging maybe, but most of the time you just zerg those kind of events down anyways so it would not be that different.

I think this game does not need this mechanic at this point. It would cause Anet to have re-look at all content in the game and make sure it is doable when they could be spending time working on other projects. It is not a big enough change to make things more challenging (verse more annoying).

Precursor for 3rd birthday

I disagree with this one. Precursors should never be just handed out for literally no effort.

Even though I don’t know what it consists of, since we know the precursor scavenger hunt is coming, I’m satisfied. Assuming, of course, the terrible RNG isn’t pushed to a particular component of the collection, like needing a different particular exotic to drop in order to get the precursor. Anything in the collection needs to either be craftable, purchasable from a vendor, or have fairly reliable droprates.

A minor internet “celebrity” was handed a legendary on his level 30 character so just stop.

Anet didn’t do the handing out, his fans did so just stop.

sigh All the people in this thread not wanting more players cause they think the players will be toxic to the commit….

Any PR is good PR.

First off, the amount of people who actually participate in twitch chat is a relatively small percentage of the people watching the stream and in no way reflective the average viewer of a stream. The amount of trolls in chat is even less. In no way does chat portray the average viewer. Most people who watch streams are just ordinary gamers. They do not participate in the twitch chat because there is absolutely no point in doing so.

Second off, people in chat understand that there are ZERO consequences for what they say. Sure they can be banned or whatever, but it takes less than a minute to make a new account. The people who troll and are toxic in chat do it to get a reaction out of others like the people in this thread. However, when these same people are put into a situation where there are consequences to their actions, most will behave like normal individuals. Guild Wars 2 is a game where how you act will have a negative impact on your image because people do remember and trolling will just get you kicked out of your guild and blocked by people.

Honestly, its good he is streaming this game and giving it the attention it deserves. I welcome new people with open arms, because overtime the trolls will leave or learn and the community will only improve and grow.

Boss Wyvern too easy?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Diviner.7405

Diviner.7405

its simple to make the wyvern fight hard, for open world at least. for instanced pve stuff its simply not complex enough.

1. make each fire tick deal enough damage so a player dies after eating 2 hits.
makes it so player positioning matters alot more than it does currently.
2. if you fall off the platform you will die. no chance to fly around and land on the platform again.
3. no waypoint. dead means dead.
4. more fire on the ground that has to be dodged.
5. add an enrage timer, make it so that fire takes over more and more of the platform the longer the fight goes, so players are forced to interrupt every single time correctly to be able to deal enough dps to the boss before enrage hits and use offensive gear instead of nomads + halfway decent rotations at least to meet the dps requirement.
at the same time this makes it harder for players to survive and put pressure on players because they dont have to focus only on one thing (do good rotation or survive) but on both at the same time.

the wyvern fight is a step forward. it just needs better tuning. for an open world fight it will be good, better than what we currently have and it looks cool, so good job anet.
for instanced pve content its still far from what would be halfway difficult.

Here is my opinion on your ideas listed about:
1) Make 1-2 shot mechanics is a bad cope out for making “challenging content.” Challenging content in this game should be done through boss mechanics. The nice thing about Guild Wars engine and mechanics means that they can do is. Lets look at the hardest world boss in the game right now, Wurm. Wurm does not 1 shot people unless you are standing on husk spawns. In fact, you should very rarely die at wurm (even in the first weeks of its release). The difficulty in wurm comes from the amount of coordination required to complete it and making sure people actually know what they are doing. This is what challenging world bosses should be.
2) I am more relaxed on this one even if it still a 1 shot mechanic, it still a better mechanic then point 1 you made. Still though, I rather not see it.
3) This one I can understand, but it would make a lot of people angry when they die. A better idea is to add a cooldown timer to when you can waypoint. After a period of time, then the game lets you waypoint. An even better idea is to add the Battlefield ticket system to world bosses. The boss has an X amount of tickets and every time someone dies (or leaves the fight) and waypoints away, 1 ticket is lost and when the amount of tickets hits zeroes the boss leaves the fight and the players lose.
4) Yes, the classic add more kitten to the fight to make it harder. I disagree completely.
5) Enrage timers are another bad cope out done to scale the difficulty of something up. The problem becomes is that this encourages the zerker meta even more, and to just kill the boss as quickly as possible. Timers in general are one of the worst ways to make content hard. It screams “we could not come up with good ideas for fail mechanics for this fight, so take this timer instead.” I rather see a prolonged fight where good play/strategy is rewarded instead of “lets nuke it down in our zerker gear and ignore the mechanics completely.”

Slow as a condition is already in the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Diviner.7405

Diviner.7405

So “Slow” as a condition is already in this game though it is not called “Slow.” It has another name entirely and only one mob in the game can apply it to players. Can you guess what it is and what the condition is called?

Hint 1:
He is a bounty
Hint 2:
He is in Southsun
Answer:
Anders "Wildman" Westward and the condition is called "Knockout Gas"

So is the condition work the same as the condition already in the game? Stacking on players (25 stacks much like bleeds)? Or will it work exactly like Quickness? Also, will this mob have its special condition changed or will it stay the same?

Why is this actually a thing?

There is an underwater dragon so underwater combat or a mostly underwater zone has a chance. The thing is, with the rate content is coming out there will probably be Guild Wars 3 before we got that far. I mean you think we would kill like a dragon a year with six dragons, so six years (which is a healthy lifespan for any game). So far we killed only 1 and have barely touched at a second and its been 2 years.

That kind of is your loss. Save everything. If you are going to to switch skins, you either de-transmutate the Living Story Skin so you have it or you just remake the entire armor piece and then add the skin you want onto the new one.

If you are lacking storage space, you either make mules or buy more bank tabs. If that is being filled up, then you need to question on what is important to you and what is not. Obviously other things were more important to you at the time, so you stuck with those things and now you are posting on the forums with regrets. Sure, we can all sit around and type “Yeah, we totally agree” but at the end of the day nothing is going to change and you just are kind of out of luck. Sorry.

Expansion or Living story ? why

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Diviner.7405

Diviner.7405

There’s no reason why they couldn’t and it would be awesome if they did, but they didn’t do that (with Season 1 at least). Had they released an expansion instead of Season 1, we might have had a new continent and race right now since expansions usually add that type of content.

I’ll be happy if they add a significant amount of permanent content in Season 2, but it’s not like I can really go in with that kind of expectation.

They added Southsun (though I’m sure some would like them to take it back…), the Queen’s Jubilee changed the construction area in DR, and LA still isn’t fixed (which makes it semi-permanent so far). So that shows the LS can add long term content, which is part of why I expect to get some new areas in season 2.

Southsun Cove is not considered part of the Living Story. It was added before the concept of Living Story was revealed, which is why it is permanent. The idea of a LS was thought of over the Winterbreak of 2012/2013, and was implemented the following year with the introduction of Flame and Frost.

Sure, the LS changed the section in DR, but as of now the only thing to do over there is the Royal Terrace which is a cash shop item.

As for my opinion on the subject, I do not care what they do. We have not had any new content for well over a month now and with no announcements of ANY new plans from Anet. It is as if we are sitting dead in the water, and at this rate I do not except anything new for a couple of months which is disappointing.

Even with the feature patch, I find myself logging in less and less and I notice that many people on my friend’s list are doing the same. Need something new soon Anet or your going to find your player base gone.

With the destruction of LA the new hub will be moved to Gendarran Fields at Vigil Keep.

While this is nice, I think Anet could have done better.

The new hub should have been at Labyrinthine Cliffs. Think about it. The map is currently not in use and is a relatively peaceful map that could make a great home as a temporary (or even permanent) city while LA is being destroyed. All of the asura portals, merchants, and even NPCs could be moved there.

Of course the Zephyrite Sanctum at the top could be removed, but I think there would not even have to be that much work done to add/delete these things.

It would tie in with the LS as well since LA did establish a trade agreement there.

What do you guys think?

Ascended Armor Set (Light) + Flamekissed

Just a tip..

Playing the tp means you are profiting other players.

Aside being unethical (imho but its a long debate), its NOT a viable solution for players.

If all players started to flip the TP, we would just obtain a 30% loss for everyone.

In the current situation you just have few players profiting at other players cost (+ 30% loss totaly on other players).

that is why i hate TP so much.
The damage is way worse than the benefit for the Whole community…but few players at least are rich without Killing a mob….

Its also the ONLY form of FORCED pvp in this game.

Thats cute, you always recognize the people that have no understanding of economics, markets, and the necessity of trade because they are the ones that pull numbers out of thin air to validate their baseless opinions.

The trade post in this game actually redistributes wealth from people that farm alot or buy gems to trade for gold, as most of these players have the mentality of they must have the latest and greatest as soon as it can be obtained. Alot of money can be made off of players such at the OP that wanted their armor ASAP.
.

You should just check reviews on gw2 economy on the internet by people with “proper understanding”.

Because its not as you say..

1st part with ascended….
Players have to get the best armor asap….
What about being locked out of your faorite part of the game until you get it?
(dunno if you can suggets me a cheap way to get 70 AR…..)

What about the manipulation of demand by people joining to drain resources from the tp and create a false lack of?
(you know its illegal in real economy?)
Do we want to talk about sigil of generosity for example?

But MOSTLY do we want to talk about how farming is continuosly nerfed and how TP flipping that generates enormous amount of moneys (more than 100X comparing to a farmer) is untouched?

Or about the effect having on rare items AND GEMS being available easily to flippers and out of reach of any other player not using real moneys?
(permanent contracts, rare skins etc……).

Do we want to discuss how many flippers bought dozens precursor to resell them (increased 400% in price in one week …see minstrel for example and it wasn t redesigned at all)

You can try to deny it but we see how stuff work…
Your income is at real players cost + 30% taxes and ALSO you have no real risk…..unless you made real huge mistakes (see gossamer…..that was really easy to see).

It is so EASY to power trade on the TP, and yet so many people complain about it.

Where are you pulling this 30% from? I can make up numbers too.

Gossamer was a mistake. Lets see. I bought about 20k Gossamer scraps at what…. 1s a piece back before weapons were released and then sold them for 8-9s a piece the week before armor came out? What a mistake!!!!!

Will Guild Wars 2 ever be an eSport?

The problem is is that Anet refuses to commit heavily to the e-sports scene, yet expect their game to magically take off by the community. News flash, the era for those kind of expectations have gone and past. A few years ago there was a void. Twitch was new and just getting up and running and Starcraft 2 was about to come out. Dota and LoL were not almost nonexistent in popularity. There was really no esport scene at this time outside of fighting game community and Starcraft 1 only had a niche in Korea. This would have been perfect to take the e-sports scene by storm.

But GW2 wasnt release then and was instead released a few years after this when the twin titans of Dota 2 and LoL took the esport scene by force. FPS games still had there niche among players and FGC also had their niche. Even SC2 has fallen off the scene a bit, so a game like GW2 has no room in the e-sports scene…

Here is the thing. Sponsers and e-sport organizations are not going to pick up an random game these days anymore. The company has to make an effort (by throwing vast amounts of money at the scene) in order to even get recognize by the e-sports scene. Look at Dota 2, Valve throws a 1 million dollar tournament for their game (this doesn’t include the venue which Im sure costs even more). When is Anet going to do that? Its cause Anet doesnt want to commit.

So what do we get instead? We get a half-kitten game. Both in PvP and PvE. Skills and traits are balanced around PvP, not PvE, and no separation is ever made. This is because the Devs see PvE as “too easy” (a Dev told me this in-game) and thus PvE never really needs to be balanced in terms of builds.

Anet needs to just concede at this point and stop trying to make PvP an esport. The majority of the player base lies in PvE. Focus on that.

So I have two theories about this.

The first one is that it is bugged and all sides take damage.

The other one is that all of the molten bosses attacks are considered AoE and thus hit you from all sides causing outflanked to activate.

But knowing Anet, I think the first one is true.

Gw2 and the state of Esport

You honestly expected GW2 to become an e-sport?

Let us take a look at the top three genres for e-sports. MOBAs, FPS, and Fighting games. Unfortunately, MMO’s do not fit into any of those categories. Nobody cares to watch the sPvP aspect of the game, because they would much rather be playing the game itself or doing something else. Look at the top Twitch.tv games. Do you see anyone streaming this game with more than 100+ viewers at once? Very very rarely. WoW gets more views and that is not even close to an e-sport.

The game itself has little depth. Most classes have 1-2 builds that can be successful and the amount of actual player skill is very minimal in most cases. This in combination proves to be very boring to watch for most people.

If they really want this game to be an e-sport, they have to throw a few million dollars or more to even start up and get people interested. Anything else is just half kitten attempts at making an e-sport. No e-sports organization is going to pick up a game that has a very niche audience who would rather be playing the game then watching the game.

Why are there so many contested way points?

Still find the most odd contested wp is the guild puzzle ones they are always contested so whats their purpose?

they are uncontested when someone is doing guild mission, and they might be used to come back to the puzzle start

Actually I think they’re contested when a guild is in there doing a mission, so no one can use the waypoint.

The reason I think it’s like this is because it prevents other guilds from easily doubling up when someone is in there, and also because the doors close after you start the puzzle, and if you use the waypoint, you’ll be locked out of it.

So under no circumstance should someone use a waypoint if they die in the puzzle, unless there’s no other option. Normally they’d have to be rezzed in the puzzle by someone already inside to continue.

You obviously have never done a guild puzzle since you have no idea what you are talking and are off topic as well.

Why the hell are you running a guardian in your group?

Thief and Elementalist have some of the top DPS in the game and add a hell of alot to the team besides that.

Im pretty sure that greatsword is the Ascended weapon that has already been released.

It has the exact same model, but the only difference is the cloud on it. The cloud could just be a poison cloud and we are seeing it at an odd angle or something to that effect.

If that is actually the new GS, then Anet did a really poor job and just added a black cloud on top of an existing skin.
