Logged into WvW yesterday and I had 16 unused bonus chests. I wonder how many people will come back to WvW if it takes another six months to fix it? Its completely dead IMHO, no one plays anymore, and that makes me sad. This update does nothing to change that but string people along.

Raise your hand if you were playing for a few days in HOT, then had to go into a central Tyria zone and immediately jumped off a cliff and died. Raises hand. Yeah it would be nice sometimes if I didn’t have to remember you can only glide in HOT.

I have 4 level 80s and I have about 200 tomes of knowledge stored up. What really annoys me is if I want to unlock mastery points I already have, I have to go run around the map all day even though I have been playing the game for 3 years and I have map completed with 2 of my 4 characters. Is there no way to skip to the end to at least unlock the points I have already earned without having to run around maps all day I have run around 1000 times before? I’m mastery rank 11 because I don’t have a lot of play time, but I have another 35 points unlocked in central Tyria and a bunch more in HOT, I will never have the time to unlock these if I have to gain XP manually to unlock each point.

Dislike. Too large and complex. I also hate desert and love snow so aesthetically I can’t stand them. I have had enough of dry top, so the main area of the game I enjoyed playing has essentially been ruined for me.

Yes, I have essentially given up on WVW with the new maps. Too spread out and complex.

Ferguson’s Crossing just used that exploit in Borlis Pass. They took our Garrison, Hills and Bay in less than 3 minutes each and they were all fully upgraded. Cheating is not how I play the game and if this isn’t fixed soon, I will no longer be playing WvW nor will I encourage friends and family to play Gw2 or the upgrade. This exploit is known by Anet. They have to know by now and still have not fixed it.

I was for a little while in the FC zerg last night that melted reinforced gates in 30 seconds without siege. I wasn’t playing a guardian, obviously a lot were. We spent most of the time asking each other what was going on, because only a core group of CCS knew it was a bug. Initially they did it to publicize the bug and get it fixed, but lets be honest, it was mid week, BP had a 100,000 point lead, it had no bearing on the outcome of the match and it was fun to melt gates without siege, even more fun to do it against towers with 10 or more BP superior arrow carts so see if it could be done for a while. It was fun, which again being honest, WvW rarely is fun anymore. No harm was done to the integrity of WvW, our match was not close, it wasn’t going to be close with or without this bug, and its going to be fixed, if it hasn’t already.

Simple fact is veteran players are being screwed. Joe Schmoe off the street who has never played the game before can walk in , pay $100 and have the entire game to explore. Me, I paid $60 for the game two years ago and now if I want the same perks as a brand new player its going to cost me $160. That sounds real fair to me. Its not like we are the players who built the game into what it is and made the expansion even possible or anything, right?

I figured the cost of the expansion would be around $40. For just the expansion. It never occurred to me that I would basically be subsidizing new players so that Anet could give them the base game for free, something I paid $60 for. I feel like I am being screwed. Its not about the money, I could buy the full $100 expansion for all 400 of my guild members and have pocket cash left over, its just offensive to me that they would not give me some preferential deal or treatment for being a “founding” player.

Seems like they decided to screw the loyal players, and reward people who waited two plus years to get into the game. Should be the other way around, don’t you think?

I can see your position, I think it 100% stinks that they are charging this much for the expansion, but it affects even veteran players, we feel like we are having to pay a premium price for content we already have, plus a little extra. I haven’t decided what to do yet, but no, I did not jump at the chance to plunk my money down. I was hoping for something 39.99 with extras for JUST the expansion.

If an armored car accidentally drops a bag of money on the ground, well its the armored cars fault right? So you can pick it up, no problem. Sorry, you are under arrest. If a bank computer mistakenly gives you $10,000 you can take it right? Its the banks fault. Sorry, you are under arrest.

As to simple pricing errors, all print and online merchants will often have in fine print in their terms and conditions that they are not responsible for pricing errors and will not honor incorrectly printed prices. This happens often with airline tickets, on occasion the airlines will honor it when they sell an international first class ticket for a hundred dollars or some crazy amount but most of the time they will void them.

The only time that will happen is when I get stacked onto a boss like Maw with 150 people , it will spike down to 6 to 8, but normally will stay around 10-15. That happens to everyone IMHO. It doesn’t impact gameplay as all you have to do at that point is mash the 1 button. It would never be noticeable in normal gameplay when I am 40 plus.

Its not your video card, I run a 5750 HD Radeon and I play mostly on high settings on everything.

I do have 16 GB of ram and an i7, but its an older i7 2600k 3.4 GHZ. I don’t think video card is your problem. I will get down to 6 or 10 FPS in a big world boss fight daily with 100 plus people on the map. WvW is never an issue for me.

Yup, I was not able to log in with a char currently in Silverwastes, 5 out of 6 times. I got in once.

Disclaimer, I am not a typical MMO player so maybe that’s why I don’t like subscription based games. The only game I ever played that was even remotely like GW2 was Diablo 2/3. I have never played WoW.

Personally I have been playing over 2 years and up until last night I never paid a nickel playing this game aside from the $59.99 it cost. I have converted gold into gems once, and taken the free gems that came with AP and bought a bank tab expansion and bag slot expansion.

Last night I bought $35 worth of gems, whatever that equates to, because I wanted the logging and cloth gathering nodes for my home instance and a watchwork mining pick. I could have converted some of the 500 g I have into gems instead, but I decided after 2 years of play I could make a small monetary contribution in exchange for the entertainment I have received the past two years. It won’t likely happen again for another 2 , except maybe the expansion.

I can only see using them on utilitarian items like this. Its not a financial decision for me, I can afford to buy hundreds of dollars in gems a month if I felt like it, I do not believe in subscription based games and I don’t see the need to buy fancy clothes either.

I had to leave Gunnars, the person who got me into the game told me to sign up for that EU server because he had friends in Turkey who played. He quit the game a month later and I wound up playing empty maps because surprise surprise everyone in EU is asleep when I am playing at 9 PM California time. I chose Ferg after looking at all the available NA servers which had free transfers at the time. It was and still is often brutal to be a Ferg but I am no quitter.

I actually am a huge quitter, when we get down to like 50 ppt I will go do world boss train or wander around cutting down trees before I will try and fight it out with 10 to 1 odds. But I won’t quit my server.

If FC is dead it is because people betrayed their server and left, that is not for me. I have been on FC since I transferred from EU Gunnar’s Hold 3-4 months into playing the game. I have no desire to play for anyone else but the Ferg.

I think most of the people on my server are hunting for that beta portal this week. not sure if thats the same with yours, but you might have some more people in there again after the portal hunt ends.

Hadn’t considered that, since its unimportant to me, but WvW has been stale for at least six to nine months, so while the last two weeks have maybe been abnormally empty, its not the start of the issue.

I am down to just hopping in for dailies now, which feels like work, and its cut my play time down to an hour or less a night.

I am on Ferguson’s Crossing. We are going on six or seven weeks with the same server matchup, and things have gotten VERY stale. This week almost no one is showing up, and the people who are don’t care, are just there to knock out dailies. When we care we can crush the other two servers and have but it seems like as the weeks drag on, fewer people care. I see fewer and fewer of the WvW regulars who we rely on.

Are there any plans to do anything about this or is it all supposed to be fixed by the expansion?

I am sorely disappointed right now with the game, I generally only WvW and its gotten so dull and painful to play that my play time is pretty much daily’s and that’s it. I presume just about everyone else is having a similar issue?

I don’t need to state my age, but my first game system was an Atari 2600, I had a Commodore 64, Tandy 1000, Colecovision and an original Nintendo.

The half dozen or so people I mostly associate with in game are early 40s to mid 50s. I generally don’t like playing with people under 25 ish because their perspective on life and the things they find amusing are , lets just say immature and age appropriate.

I’m going to say, I spent the weekend camping Amber to get The Executioner to spawn. We got him to spawn twice, but didn’t succeed. Then this morning, he spawned again.. I know I hit him multiple times, I died twice and and waypointed. While running back the second time, I made it to the gate as he died.. and NO reward… I probably won’t wp again in the future, if I’m not going to get the reward cause I was running back or in the middle of waypointing. I now have to do it all again, to get the achievement… it sucks. Took me 3 days to get to today, to have him actually killed on the server instance I was in.. and I didn’t get it. VERY frustrating!!!!

Therein lies part of the problem to those who say “just WP and run back”. In the Silverwastes, there is no nearby WP to re spawn at. Because the Devs decided to make the whole map have only a single, non centrally located WP, its impossible to wp and run back, to say, Blue Oasis from the WP, there just isn’t enough time.

Honestly I think NSP has some of the most talented players I have faced in the last six months or so. Some of them are fast, well coordinated and honestly if they want a tower or keep, they are going to take it, and without 50 people. DR is only going to get zergier with the addition of one of FC’s most zerg oriented guild.

They serve a purpose. If you have real time information about what the enemy is doing where, you can just zerg around all day to the hot spots and you aren’t really playing the game mode , are you?

Zergs exist partially because players don’t know where to get action on a map. People often follow a commander because they are generally guaranteed some action even if it is fighting a door. If friendly NPCs listed activity on the map, players would likely disperse a little to defend/engage. It won’t stop zergs but it would create more pocket fighting.

Basically WvW does a horrible job of getting players into the action. Heck most log into a map, don’t see a tag and leave. Do that on all maps then go to EotM.

I would support bigger graphics, maybe something like the OJ swords but a different color when an attack is taking place at a site, but I would not want specific information, ie, 40 so and so server are attacking X, just X is being attacked is good enough for me.

We already have that, places go swords when they are attacked, but the swords blend in so well with the background its hard to see on a quick scan of the map. New players also probably have no idea what it means, whereas a big set of orange swords is pretty hard to misinterpret. I wish also that RI was shown, like the map that Millenium uses to track the matches. That would be helpful too.

I do agree that most newbie WvW players come in, see nothing happening and either message in general chat asking for help or just leave.

Certainly NPC’s now are essentially useless. Upgrading guards or increasing patrols is meaningless. Now if those upgrades caused the NPCs to man siege automatically and target enemy players, they might be meaningful again.

Or they cheated. There is quite a bit of cheating going on in WvW, anyone who tells you different is an either lying, an Anet employee, a hacker themselves, or all 3.

I don’t think I would shy away from a 2v1, but we have had a lot of really useless uplevels running around our BL lately, and they are for whatever reason very afraid to die and seem to turn around and run in the other direction if they even sniff danger. Someone needs to tell em there’s no penalty for death any more.

How bout playing the game, helping your server win at WvW and the caps will come naturally. I had no problem getting 100% map completion on a low tier server and I found that WvW was fun and that’s all I do now. Go play the game, don’t complain about something that is not broken.

FC was called ZERGuson’s for a reason…

I think its kinda funny folks from AR and ET saying FC is zergy. I guess its all about perspective, back when we were all tier 8 bottom feeders both those servers used to be fun to fight but now they struggle to field 10 people on a map. AR is truly dead from what I can see.

So sure, anything north of 10 people is going to get them screaming zerg. Most of us FC on the other hand cannot stand SF and GOM mega zergs which will out blob our entire WvW population on just one BL map.

FC BL will have normally 8-10 people total roaming in small groups unless there is a crisis, ie an enemy has come to zerg or an all out golem rush, and we have to manage sometimes with far less late night NA.

I don’t have a feel for how things are going to go now that WZ and EDGE have left, but I think we are going to get better, with smaller more focused groups and less blobbing.

We call you zergy because of how you fight. Unless your zerg outnumbers us by at least 3 to 1 you all run, hide, fight from a tower with siege. Same goes for 90% of your roamers, I chased 2 of them back to bay and they didn’t come out to fight until they had 5 people. Heck, there was several times today that you all jumped off cliffs at hills to avoid fighting. Why not at least try to fight if you are just going to kill yourselves?

5 is not a zerg last time I checked.

Myself personally, I do not engage in small group fights, I don’t like that part of the game, I enjoy big open field battles or sieges on strategic targets. I only play a staff ele for sieging towers and doing large amounts of damage to large groups of players from the periphery of the battle. If you come across me roaming or running in a small group and that’s your play style, you are going to kill me, so I find it much more fun to tick you off and try and get away, for which I have many tools, than to attempt what will be a VERY short and unproductive fight for me.

FC’s two biggest zergy guilds mostly left the server this week. I think from what I see we have actually gotten better with smaller groups working more targets, though its hard to tell this week against ET and AR.

EotM is probably best PvP update in mmorpg history. i haven’t never played better PvP in any game.

It has nothing to do with WvW. It is a complete FAIL with regards to WvW. None of the hardcore WvW players I know have been in there since the week it launched. Its a complete waste of time.

WvW is so screwed up right now I don’t honestly know how you go about fixing it. But the horrendous scheduling system used on this tournament, where you have servers tanking in the 3rd to last week to get an easy matchup for the 2nd to last week to ensure they win in that week and are in the “final” is just plain stupid. I actually think that by the time of the next season interest in WvW will have waned so much that it will not matter if any changes are made.

EOTM was a FAIL, everyone knows it, will there be something else done? It does not look to be the case.

First movie I remember seeing, and it was in a DRIVE IN, was Star Wars Episode IV. I had an Atari 2600 as my first game system. I guess that makes me old at 40? I try to only hang out with people in my bracket, one can only stand so many 19 year old pimply fan boys trolling for what they think are girls in chat…

Right now there is no future. Hacking is rampant, I know so many players at this point who have tuned out or left WvW altogether out of frustration at fighting people who can’t be killed, regenerate all their health instantly and every second, or can gank you from seemingly nowhere in sight or attack while staying completely invisible. Its starting to get old for some people and there is no “hacking” report tool to use.

We had 20 at blue, 23 at green and 17 at red, 6 minutes in and red was at 90% health left. I don’t think this event scales at all.

At that point everyone went to blue to fail on purpose for the chest.

Had the exact same experience with red. 35 of us all full on dpsing the thing for the entire duration of the event with very few people ever being downed (was impressed with how responsive the group was) but we only managed to get the thing down to 50% health. Do we have to have 50 people to even have a chance of doing this now?

The patch ruined the event. There is now no chance to get the 6 minute achievement for anyone who had not already gotten it, you can forget it. Even with an even split of players, and about 40 on each knight, we barely got 2 down with almost no time to spare and the third was 80%. Don’t ask me what happened to the group on the third, if they hadn’t screwed up we might have completed the event, but NOTE, we would have done it with almost the max # of players on each knight and it would take 14 mins. How are you supposed to get them down in 6 minutes??? .

The knights now have way too much HP for the split up and smaller groups, don’t scale to the size of the attacking group and you will be lucky to even finish the event on even the best servers.

I don’t know that my server ever successfully completed Marionette. I had to guest to complete it once, only once, in 20 attempts on various servers and overflows.

My opinion, it fails because people do not listen to commanders in map chat, and because you get an inadequate number of people or wrong combination of people on usually one pad, and people fail to rez while downed. When dead it is already too late.

Every one of my 19 failed attempts it was almost always one pad who failed.

Agree with what the original poster has said. I have attempted this four times since the patch, and never gotten more than 2 chains down. Every time, the failure was due to a platform with 2-3 people one of whom was downed immediately upon teleporting. At that point it is almost impossible for the remaining 1-2 players to defeat the champion in time.

Unfortunately in another post a developer admitted that the possibility of transporting people off a completed platform to another was looked at extensively and was technically impossible or something to that extent. So, its not going to be fixed, I am sure my server will never complete it, at least all the times I have tried we have not even been close, and it will be gone in 2 weeks anyway. I was told we beat it once, but I am not sure I believe it.

It was a nice concept, I enjoy the battles, but I can already see people giving up on it after repeated attempts fail to even get halfway. I am sure if it doesn’t happen this weekend, its never going to.

People are so burned out after playing the 7 weeks and didn’t want a third HOD matchup in a row, they are off doing other things this week. Its virtually impossible to get more than 5 people together in one place without a tag and with a tag you are lucky to get 10, at least in the evening hours.

Hard to be too excited for this week’s matchup. I am sick of seeing non stop HOD as well.

I guess the only reason it is still so close is everyone on all sides is burned out from the league season.

1: our 35 will drop to 10 because Thanksgiving (this week) is a major holiday.

2: Blue will hold more blue stuff because instead of defending they let you take it all then cap it back, which you find boring, so they hold blue longer than we hold red.

Frankly, and I have stated this to our people, What is green is completely irrelevant to us right now. We Should focus on what is blue, but we are stubborn folks. That borderland is titled “GOM Borderland” and its gotta be red no matter what kitten it…

So, you guys will have “Fun” and we will lose this week. Just how its gonna be. 10 cant hold 30. Its below the #s needed to allow siege to make a difference because you can just roll over the front lines. Its just the way it is.

Interesting post, thanks. If this is the general thought on GoM then it explains why fergs are pulling away. The catch 22 you state is a fallacy – while it dosent have a logic flaw, the conclusion you imply is incorrect. Im not going to mention the flaw because if FC already knows it and you dont then Im not going to blow their strategic advantage.

I would be interesting in hearing how FC decided to play this match once they secured the win, because clearly something changed from every other time we have played ferg. From my PoV its hard to tell if they had a plan, or if they are all just taking a cry-break and are squeaking a win anyways.

I don’t know about the day crew, but the night crew this week has seen some of the worst commanding/lack of commanders altogether that I have seen with FC thus far in the season. The play and coordination has been so poor, and with so few people much of the time, that I am surprised we came back this strong. All the good stuff is happening during the day when I am not on, cause it seems like at night we run between 50 ppt and 120 ppt for most of the 4 hours I usually play.

At night we have been content to capture stuff back when we can and defend our garri in FC BL and its waypoint which we did for the last several days at all costs, I personally viewed holding garri as a potential difference maker in winning or losing to GOM but I can’t say that everyone else on FC agrees with that. GOM sure did, they probably attacked it 50 times in the last 2 days.

Beyond that we have not had the luxury of a cohesive strategy.

Originally I had GoM picked to beat Fkittenil I realized a new patch was coming out on the 26th and suddenly had flashbacks to the GoM/DH/FC week. shudder

Nevertheless, I’d like to see a WvW with just GoM and FC, and see who would come out on top. My money bets on GoM to win that. Though it wouldn’t be easy.

It fluctuates greatly, pre season we beat the stuffing out of GOM, six months ago it would not have been a contest, GOM wiped us off the map. Seems like of all the servers I have faced, GOM is the most unpredictable as to what you are going to get in a given week. I don’t know why that is..

However, in its current state, it is from what I can see this week, a no tactic pug zerg server at the moment. Lot of people, not much strategy. We had a 30-40 man Gom Zerg throw itself against FC garri last night about six times. They only used rams, and they never completely stopped the flow of supply from the north camp or held that camp for anything longer than the RI period, which allowed us to continually replenish supply at the keep. At the end we had about 20 arrow carts raining death down on you, never got under 400 supply in the keep, yet you still tried the water gate again and again.

If that is representative of GOM strategy, I will take the FC side of that bet even with fewer numbers.

its silly we have to beat GoM both times we play them just to end up tied with them for 4th. GoM has 4 easy weeks while FC has 1.

then if DH beats SF then they are 1-1 to each other, yet DH gets 2nd place because they only played HoD once instead of twice like SF.

Hm, I didn’t think about that but that is a fair point. If you beat us twice, how come we finish tied? Doesn’t really make much sense.

Either way, unless the rewards are drastically different, you probably don’t lose out on anything. You guys will have shown you can beat us and whatever lame ranking ArenaNet has at the end isn’t gonna change that (like the Glicko rating never gave an accurate list of where the servers stand).

Since the league was kind of a breath of fresh air gettin our PvE and WvW players to integrate more, I am glad for it still (of course the downside was all the guilds that transferred due to the league but we were pretty much out of WvW guilds to transfer off).

We won’t finish tied, because GOM will know and FC will know who the real 4th place server is and who isn’t. Beyond that it is irrelevant, because it will all change and be erased in a few weeks.

what they need to do is make it easier to take undefended objectives, but harder to take defended ones. taking an undefended objective needs to be so easy that 2-4 players can do it quickly, no matter how upgraded it is.

if they did that, zergs would be forced to leave people behind to guard each objective (if they want to keep them), and the team that has more objectives would naturally need to dedicate more people to defense (or risk losing everything to small roving groups).

unfortunately defense is boring and unrewarding, so while this might be an effective mechanic for server balance, it’s not much fun.

The developers obviously don’t want WvW to be a defensive game. In the real history of medieval war, if you are behind the battlements of a castle wall you are virtually indestructible and can rain fire and arrows down on your opponent. This is why they built castles to begin with. In GW2 you get blown up in 2 seconds flat by meteor showers and other ranged effects. The defender has no advantage.

Now if you could actually make arrow carts in protected places without taking damage, 1-2 people could defend a keep, but right now it is biased in favor of the attacker. No objective is truly defendable. They don’t want it that way.

WZ is a big guild, most of them are pretty decent, dedicated WvW players, and they have a couple of good commanders, but they also have a few idiots and jerks. Like any big guild.

No I’m not saying that at all. I’m not sure why you would draw that conclusion from anything I said. I’m emphasizing how much numbers and coverage plays a part on the scoreboard. However, you have to be able to manage, organize, and direct those numbers, as well as have a deep pool of experienced and capable commanders that players enjoy following and know their style.

As Zik said above, NA would simply be closer because coverage would be much less of an issue.

A lot of the lower tier servers have all of what you just said, for a few hours a day. The quality of play during those hours is no less than what I suspect you would find on any of the upper tier servers.

FC have only 1-2 real dedicated WvW guilds and 3-4 guilds that do one or more WvW “nights” but that are PvX guilds.

We only queue 1-2 maps on reset night and not usually for very long. 2-3 hours in there will be no queues.

I would rather see the top 3 servers from gold silver and bronze match up together for 4 weeks with the last week being the 3 servers with the highest score. gold vs gold, silver vs silver and bronze vs bronze. Allow spectators via a web portal and watch the good fights. Give them some loot and everyone will be happy.

The 3 servers currently in first have proven so far that they cannot lose. Why would you expect them to lose in a 4 week matchup when they haven’t in a 7 week matchup?

I didn’t say it wasn’t a good strategy, it’s what I would have done if I were KN with a slim chance to make 2nd.

I just said it was responsible for the bigger point differential between FC and DH this time around. It benefits the 1st place server the most when 3rd targets 2nd thinking they have a chance, but it is the nature of the game.
