I get my cele stats from trinkets/accessories using a mix of zerkers and soilders gear… but I usually only am zerg d/d ( Yes I hyper extend past our commander and ride the lightning directly into the enemy) not much experience with fighting less than blob size… I would assume it’s easier and that you could afford to use more zerkers gear. I’m with you on the doom sigil.. don’t replace it.
You realize they literally just stealth nerfed trap cast time with the patch? How’s this build now…. Haven’t played traps since the patch before that they broke pet management… How is this bug not being addressed?
. ESO went free to play so I’m taking a break let me know when Anet admits they either just didn’t want you playing ranger or that they made a mistake and plan to fix it. What the kitten is pet management for $300 Alex? I used to scoff at people that said pets were useless who were too bad at APM to press there F keys and keep their pets alive….. now I just hang my head in agreement.
As it stands at the moment pets are bugged. They are 100% balls deep all the time. Often getting themselves killed no matter how skilled you were in the past at pet management. This means that builds that depend on a living pet to support or as a damage source are incredibly risky to play. I feel deeply for those who play beastmaster builds.
My only work around for this has been switching to spiders and crawlers as they are ranged pets. In hindsight this is good I never use crawlers for anything prior to this bug and it’s brought me out of my comfort zone of dogs and cats.
None of this however has deterred me from playing ranger in WvW. What can I say…. It feels good to press 2 and trait piercing arrows then pick up bags. Instead of focusing on what you can’t do focus on what you can do. Sword/Dagger is very rewarding to whip out when a melee get’s in your face.
I was attacted to ranger because of the pet mechanic but I ended up liking every weapon ( yes even torch ) so with the current crippling bug to pets consider a build emphasizing solely around your weapons of choice.
It’s not necessary to sacrifice the DPS you have plenty of skills on both your staff and via cantrips like mistform , or the elite lava GS that are escapes out of bad positioning. Positioning is everything. Invest in offence and start off with defensive gear, adding in peices of zerkers as you feel more comfortable.
I got 26g eaten yesterday. I’m still really bent about it especially reading this post… If your money is taken it’s gone period.
Oh I had a completly differnt TP bug…. I places\d an order for 5 Damask cloth’s at 13g each it took my money 3 were sold to me… then the rest of the order has disapeared from my transactions along with the money…. I’m going to be reimbursed for this yes?
Lagged so kitten my client that it logged me into the wrong charecter when I tried to log in.
Maybe you’re not familair with highly anticipated patches… but this is how the internet works when EVERYONE and thier mother is trying to enter the same door at once.
Signed! I expierince this too and if it is not a bug I would like clarification on it.
Necros Against Drunk Developer’s.
N.A.D.D’s.
The Curses master trait Terror states that fear does damage. However Using the skill Spectral Wall does not apply damage when combined with this trait.
I am fighting people who clump… frequently…. they clump on points… and it’s even better in PvE… mobs don’t run cleanse.
Traited Warhorn has 100% uptime on Flee.
I love it combined with Blood Is Power first for the might , I’ve also traited signets grant might. If you trait corruptions have a lower cooldown epidemic can be up every 12 seconds you can easiliy spam it and continue applying bleeds with staff 2 every time it’s up.
Our minions could look less smelly… I hear the kids think Satan is pretty cool, maybe we could have more demonic looking pets and less… like rotting meat scraps. Personally I think Necro has a “2 cool for school” vibe already… I mean as cool as those goth kids from South Park anyways.
Tornado is for PvP… but I do happen to agree I think our elites for PvE are pretty lack luster… I know people swear by Fiery Greatsword but I"m just not a fan of it. I suggest Summon Elemental to be reworked to the way Flesh Golem elite from Necromancer’s works. Pet doesn’t die until killed. If the uptime of a constant pet would be to much of a damage increase they could reduce it’s base dmg, and increase the cooldown on the activated skill.
He have enough Karma for the NPC armor in Orr? I find that stuff to be a good place holder with lots of options there is even a set with Melandru’s t the Melandru temple. Karma is easy enough to earn with EoTM ( which if he’s into WvW would give him a little PvP fix) and event chain farming in Orr. I don’t quite understand what you mean by “not willing to farm” this game sort of forcefeeds you riches if you stick in one area long enough… it’s impossible not to open up chests with Exotics/Rares and get T6 bag drops. Also there isn’t really farming in this game or rather you farm the gold rather than the actual item… it’s much faster that way.
It help’s your pet to connect if you use one of the various different ways ranger has to apply cripple to a target… we’ve also got a few different chills and immobilizes at our disposal. If you can’t make your pet run faster make the enemy run slower ^^
Not to mention the various forms of giving your pet swiftness via skills and traits and weapons. Lots have mentioned the obvious with Agility Training or Signet of the Hunt but there are waaay more options out there like Intimidation Training ( f2 skills apply cripple), or Predator’s Instinct ( Cripple foes below the threshold). I find it easier to hit slower things than trying to get my pet to be fast enough to catch fast things.
QZ +Sic’em when used in unison can really overwhelm unsuspecting targets no matter what pets you choose to play with (okay maybe not crawlers…those thing are more like turrets than animals imo).
Some pets really shine in certain builds where others flop so it’s important to really pick over what you’re traiting to synergize with your pets.
I wish, I would love to have new pets!, I find the lack of new pets to be deeply disturbing because collecting them was like a unique mini game experience all to ranger.
I don’t know why I don’t see many Moa’s… think about it… Fern Hound is popular because it has an on command heal… and hard CC… well Moa’s do just about the same they ALL have the ability to heal with Harmonic Cry and it can be triggered quite reliably by swapping to them when your health is somewhere around the 75%< threshold, some of their F2’s are supportive like AoE Protection while some are more offensive like AoE Daze and I find the AoE far more reliable than the drakes. I’d like to take this post to advocate for More Moa’s in 2015!
Don’t listen to these children Anet. Enjoy the holidays with your families, you done good and I enjoyed the story. I especially LOVED playing as Caithe and meeting all of the Firstborn, that was sick.
I love shortbow in pvp arena and sometimes in WvW solo roaming but not so much in PvE. It’s honestly better to trait heavily into power over condition because it synergizes well with the fast attack speed of the shortbow and there are other classes out thier who make us look pitiful with conditions who are also fighting to apply them… conditions as a whole are unreliable due to the nature of how they apply. It’s like they compete against eachother instead of working togethe. You can get the most out of a shotbow beastmaster build utilizing Quickening Zeypher and Rampage as one you can burn down single targets in PvP quickly… but like I said… not very useful in PvE in situations where you are fighting multiple targets which is why you’d t to trait heavily into power and take the trait that causes arrows to pierce targets ( that’s the best you can hope for in terms of fighting multiple enemies).
Oh this thread again… we should just title it "People who never press F1-F4… "it’s your lazy fingers not your pets….
Bearbow? I’m really confused on if this is actually a thing or not… There’s nothing wrong with Longbow, … but with sitting in longbow and never swapping…. the brown bear specifically is an AoE condition remover on F2… he is a support bear….
I don’t know how you feel but personally I think no matter what race/class you are playing it’s smart to have at least one form of condition removal. Especially if you know you are going to be eating condition dmg in a dungeon like Twilight Arbor.
Specifically I don’t use bears… it’s not that I don’t like them, I actually think they are the cutest it’s that I label them as tank pets… and I am rarely in a situation where I need a pet to tank.
Remember you can build anyway you want the Meta will still hate on you for it… you chose the RNG life…. don’t you dare grab signets either… or they’ll call you a kittenty signet RNG (meanwhile our only 2 forms of stability are in elite or signet form)…. also don’t you dare use a longbow because ranged is out melee is in and you smoking some stuff if you think you’re going to do any
I tend to judge a ranger as good or bad not on their build or choice of pets and weapons but by weather their pet is alive or dead and weather I see both of them or just one…. because… I play ranger and I know what makes a good ranger and it isn’t solely DPS in fact I’ve come to terms with the fact that our DPS isn’t the best and I don’t care… that’s not why I rolled ranger… I rolled it because I like animals… wanna fight about it?
Here’s the thing… Swords are actually fun on RNG they really are… absolutely refreshing and unique take on this common profession seen in both RPG’s and MMO’s and I feel they executed it very well, however the Meta forcing everyone to use one? That needs to stop…When most people who went with ranger thought “Yey Ranged Class” …..
This is how you answer if something is viable: Are you, alive, did you team win, did you have fun, did you do so with minimal downtime and no wipes? If you answered yes to all these questions…. congratulations you’re doin it right… whatever “it” is. Carry them on your backs or at least be carryable… but never be a burden. RNG has plenty to offer a team when played well.
I feel like it used to teleport me to wherever my cursor was if it wasn’t too far and now it seems like it teleports me next to myself.
Well the game is only 6 months old, not 8.
So half a years time is not enough to fix…. well anything? Other than nerfs…
It does seem to be all about money. That’s why I’m boycotting buying any gems. But despite there being two different teams I want to know why the hell team development is being paid more than team get your kitten together and fix the most core things of the game.
I question the existence of a team working on fixes at all… the game is 8 months old… and some of the fixes would just be tooltip fixes where incorrect numbers are displayed, seriously telling me that sort of change in a game development is any different than implementing entire NPC/Vendor’s across Tiria for dailys…
I don’t have to be a programmer to know when I’m being shafted….. Or a business professional to know that it’s bad to stick all your resources into one group.
I want to know why there are so many broken class traits and skills across most if not all professions that and misleading tool tips that after 8 months…. have still not been fixed? How is this acceptable to continue to spit out new stuff when old stuff is broken and fixing it would keep customers around longer. This is just bad business, only it’s not because Arena-net is still making money and I guess does not feel that it is a problem. But I want to ask the community: am I the only one that this doesn’t sit right with?
Let Necros res downed players while in DS.
Add DoT conditions(bleed,poison) on 1.
DS traits for Stability.
I’m cool with the rest.
From what I have noticed. Even pet F2 skills that are AoE and don’t require a target they will always try to get in range of what you have targeted even while on stand-by. For example Moa’s or Dog’s using a AoE shout like skill: Fear,Regen, Protection ect. When fighting a moving target this is what causes the skill to fizzle and not cast right away. What I would like to see to improve this is well I don’t have a solution I just want it to not happen ^^
I think the problem is mostly when they try to get in range of the mob and a pet gets kited ,they stop trying to do the skill. As if you wanted them to stop because they failed.
The only thing I can think of is somehow reprogramming them to make your inputs priority and try to do the action again as soon as possible and also only cast where they are standing during standby mode and not bother getting in range of the target because if you wanted them fighting it you would have sent them there in the first place.
So when you are downed and you hit your 3 skill nothing happens because your pet is permanently stowed.
If spirits were viable, most dungeon-running rangers would instantly swap to a spirit build or at least use spirits.
I tried out spirits plenty enough. Most of the time they died to AoE or trash, even when placed strategically. If their buffs were powerful enough to warrant their fragility, then I would be alright with it. But they’re not.
Here’s the problem Spirits are bad when they are not traited for. If you invest into them being able to move they can survive their entire duration because they will move where you move. If you are placing them they aren’t moving around (i.e If you dodge out of AoE they will follow you and there inlys the skill/reward factor).
Personally I love taking them to dungeons. I get bored of going Guardian and the build I use can keep up Regen/Protection constantly.
I’ve been playing around solo with a Walking Spirits build that spams regen/protection to allies and I main Axe/Warhorn. I was wondering how the spirit abilities work with the Axe and it’s nature to bounce on attack. Can they trigger on all bounces like Sharpening Stone or just the first hit?
Not a look everyone wears…. hmmm try some modesty. Everyone likes to run around in thier G-strings and high heels but you’ll be the only girl with class!
Death is a natural part of the life cycle.
You can spot a bad Ranger by the pet. Is it dead? Is it a significantly worse version of something else? Is it pig? Do they even swap pets? Or reposition it out of red circles using F3 F1? And the number one indicator…. is it unnamed? Just kidding… about that last one but to iterate my point… If you are not hiting F1-F4 as often as an Ele you are playing Ranger sub-optimally.
I’ve noticed that other class forums are either complaining about their class or playing Gaurdian, Warrior, Thief or DD/Ele and all I can say is… there is NO bad class only bad players.
Another way to spot a green ranger is by asking them what weapons they use. If they only ever use bows and the occasional war horn offhand for moving they are only playing half of the class. Ranger can be played as a front line melee just as effectively as a long range melee.

It’s hit or miss, some enemies will hold still while you fight them and let your pet hit them because not everyone knows how badly ranger pets get chumped just by moving causing them to bite the air. However most enemies won’t.
I recommend pets that have utility when on standby, Fern Hound has AoE Regen, all the moa’s have some sort of buff on demand, Melandru Stalker has super AoE Might and anything with hard CC like immobilize from some of the spiders.
Yeap in the time it took me to form a party to “kill Zhaitan” which ended up falling through I gave up and leveled to 80 on a different toon and left it off at the same spot -.-
Ain’t nobody got time fo dat!
I am in support of any new profession just to keep the game exciting and give us more options. You put alot of work into this well done! I am curious have you ever played Sacred 2? They have a playable class called inquisitor and they are just as wicked!
It has come to my attention that I am not the only person who dislikes underwater combat. I wouldn’t go as far to say I hate it. It’s interesting despite the sense of claustrophobia… but I have a great idea to improve it. A Separate Underwater Trait set. Now don’t get your jimmies in a rustle I am not implying we have to save up for more manuals , this should be something that is accessed in the hero panel and is only active underwater. If this idea get’s any attention they could copy/paste our current traits or even go as far as to design some specifically underwater related beyond the whole X Under water weapon gets 5% damage.
Arena had the right idea by giving us a second skill bar while under water, wonderful! But our traits remaining the same is where inlays the big issue. As is your traits remains the same to reflect whatever build/weapon combo from being on land…. but that doesn’t always synergize with our underwater weapon choice. Now we could…. if we wanted trait for underwater combat ….. but in the words of the great Sweet Brown"Ain’t Nobody got time fo dat!"
So please if you think this is a good idea, want more clarification or have some suggestions or criticism of your own post below and help get this noticed!
I actually enjoy the new dailies, the freedom to choose is nice and the new material is refreshing but I noticed yesterday while in CoE that Dungeon Veterans do not count towards Veteran Slayer….. Very dissapointed and I’m almost positive that it was just an over site, can anyone from Anet explain why dungeon mobs labeled Veterans would not count?
Fern Hound or Jungle Stalker on Standby for f2 ( sometimes moas on days I’m particulraly not feeling like sending my pet anywhere near enemies) and spider for immobilize.
I ended up healing/tanking on a GS power build in most of my dungeon runs pre 60. So I finally just went in with a healing/tank Mace/Focus + Staff build and found the added heals over kill and the added survivabiltiy strong to the point of boring.
It’s funner to just come as you are and 2ndary a staff and some other healing skills.
Why are 4 pet attributes in Pet Management window always at 0 ( crit, healing, condition dmg, and agony resistance), and what is their purpose? I was thinking it must have something to do with Master’s Bond trait.
Doubloons are a crafting material that somehow is not a collection item. Slight oversight I’m sure….
Well they don’t have traditional skin. They are made of planty stuff. Which is the jist of what they said in my personal story. I know there are a few cases of corrupted tree stumps and the such in PvE but I’ll chalk that up to game developers being human and not adhereing to a strict set of guidelines regarding what can and can’t be corrupted. I also like to believe that because they Sylvari are so religiously devout to follow Ventari’s Tablet, The Dream, and The Mother that they are too wholesome spiritually to be corrupted by the dragons tools of fear.
I’ve noticed if a person goes invisible while they have a DoT such as burning bleeding or poison on them they are revealed with each tick of the damage and you can see the small DoT number damage going off. This helps to find them. You’ve got a few poison and burning options available to you as ranger so that’s not too hard and bleeds galore.
Many of the traps under your feet are great against them when they come into melee range mainly Muddy terrain ( immobilize and cripple) or Spike Trap ( bleed DoT and cripple).
Looks like alot of fun, I’d like to see your results vs. players so I’ll give it a try when my Mesmer get’s bigger.
