I was actually able to get online for the ‘epic’ event on Sunday. However, after about 45minutes I logged back off. It was un-playable. I would stand there, everything would freeze and then suddenly catch back up to see I had actually died and been revived in the time it had stopped. It was not fun.

I also wish that you stopped the focus of the Gem Shop being on RNG items. I want to give you money, because although there are teething issues with events, I think the majority of the game is great. But I want to give you money for something in return. Sell me weapon skills, sell me town clothes, sell me minis! Stop selling me something that I am unlikely to get any reward from.

Its…two-faced.

This just seems rather stuck in the past and agressive.

The game has changed. It is okay to talk to people outside your guild, it is okay to play with people outside your guild, it is even okay to represent guilds other than your main guild.

It is not two-faced. It doesn’t make you a bad person. It doesn’t lessen your feelings about your main guild or remove the fact that that you feel that is your home.

Giving these comments and this attitude suggests that the guild system will never suit you. That is okay, not everything will suit everyone. It doesn’t make it a bad system though it just means it is not one that suits your personal play style.

I’m all about praising and rewarding my members, but I am NOT about to give them what they want, when they want it, at the expense of my other members or else they will leave….I won’t do it.

I have to massively agree with this. In fact this is the exact sort of thing I was talking about when I said “The idea of a guild for me is one that suits your needs and you suit theirs.” If the member does not suit you as a guild then that is just as much of an issue as you not suiting them. It is about getting a group of people together that share a common goal and a common purpose.

There are two types of guilds I feel are going to do well in this game. The large zerg guilds which have been mention a lot. But also the often over looked smaller guilds that have clear goals and shared aims. I think this is where adaptation comes in. In other games the multi-disciplinary guild was king, people enjoyed be able to everything in one place. Here I think as people can join more than one many members are going to want to join a selection of more specialist guilds. The small guilds that I have seen who are strong and thriving have all catered to a niche.

you find that this system makes it so that if I as the top dog in my guild, the leader, the enforcer of my guild’s ways…doesn’t bend knee and kiss the ground around my members feet to make them stay, they just get up and leave.

This is the other part of adapting I think some guild leaders are missing. It is letting people leave, letting people not represent, not sweating about it as that is a part of this game. It is a different mind set but perhaps it would make you feel less jaded if you did not worry about chasing everyone on your guild list and just spent time playing instead.

You are not a guild leader and I almost wish you’d bow out of the conversation…leartn to adapt.

Aside I am sorry if my lack of guild leadership offends you , but after all guilds are not just for the leaders. I honestly believe in a balance discussion members opinion are just as important, especially when talking about changing the entire foundation of the system.

Edit:

It might seem like the multi-guild system isn’t working…simply because it isn’t fleshed out and supported properly. That’s my feeling, anyway.

This is a very good point, I didn’t make the connection when I ready your first post but it could indeed be a factor.

I probably wouldn’t mind the lack of tools if I already had a very well established, close-knit guild. I don’t have either of those things yet…so the system isn’t working as well for me.

Coming into a thread like this and saying, “There’s nothing wrong with the system…MY guild is just fine, you just aren’t doing it right” really just sounds condescending, insulting, and largely unhelpful.

I think there are two different issues here.

Firstly what do you mean by lack of tools? If you mean that the guilds have limited functionality to what we could have I would agree. There is an awful lot is lacking from the guild system in way of functionality.

However, is this the focus of the thread? Not really. This is more an over view of the entire concept of multi-guilds. I think you can say there is nothing wrong with the system and still believe smaller elements of it can be improved. I think saying others are being un-helpful just because they are coming from a different view point is misleading. Just because others find the system does work does not mean it is unhelpful to say so.

I personally do not think the issue is with the system, it is with people not liking change.

Things are different here. People expect their tried and test methods for leadership in other games to work here, they do not work with the new system. It is clear from many of the posts here that people are clinging to what they know, rather than working with the new system they are trying to make it so their guild is not a part of it. Guilds that demand full-time representation are living in a different MMO.

I think there are a couple of things to do to improve your engagement with the system. Firstly accept that there is a difference here. If you embrace the system, you relax about chasing people who are not representing you will find you have a lot more time to really work on what actually matters in the guild. Pay attention to those who are representing, make your guild a place they want to be. You will find then if others do poke their heads back into the guild they are more likely to stay.

On a personal experience note I have not joined a guild with representation requirements. I have joined guilds where people share similar interests, places where I can become part of a community. The idea of a guild for me is one that suits your needs and you suit theirs. If you are recruiting players who do not share the same point of view you will part ways pretty quickly. But also there is that first few days/weeks of fitting in. I have found myself in guilds that did not suit and that is okay there will always be an element of finding your feet.

TL;DR – Accept the system for what it is and work with it, not against it.

55 people have already died from this. I know in the grand scheme of things that doesn’t seem like much, but if you were one of those 55 families you would understand.

69 people died before it even hit America. I am not saying it is not an awful event. It is just that perhaps other areas of the world could use that money more, because they do not just have a deficit they have money at all.

I do not think that in game events are really the best way to work towards a money raising goal. They make people think they have helped when in fact they have done nothing. People need to actually give money themselves to causes they believe in rather than hoping for companies to do it for them.

I also believe Arenanet have shown responsibility for charity events. Even in small events I have heard of some of their employees taking part in a charity cycle ride. I am sure if they feel this is something they want to support they will do so with no need for in-game involvement, as after all does that not set a precident? Every horrific disaster being represented in game, a place people go to escape the world. Or should it just the ones that effect the USA?

Even if my first comment was harsh I still no not think this sort of thing is actually beneficial.

Even after reading the rules certain things had me completely bamboozled. I found a pumpkin after much searching brought back and… well I still have no idea what do when I bring it back! The guide just said to return to get skeletons but after running inside outside, round the mausoleum and trying to talk to a skeleton I still haven’t a clue!

I agree, ANet puts the things into the game without any explanation how to start all this events.

This is just not true. There are several NPCs (one just outside ever capital city) that tell you to head to Lions Arch. If you head to Lions Arch there is a massive circle on your map telling you where to go and when you get there the NPC has a large pumpkin floating above their head.

I have to admit I missed the NPCs to begin with as I was in the wilderness but heading to the major hub of Lions Arch solved all my issues with the event and I no more questions to ask.

1. Will you or will you not be buying black lion trading company or random number generation materials again?

Yes. But not during this event.

2. Did you buy them in the past?

Yes.

3. If you would not buy trading post material/gamble, would you support direct to buy weapon skins and what general price do you find acceptable from a business standpoint both as a customer and realizing that they must make money as a business?

Even though I would play the RNG I would still say yes. I would buy them if they were direct purchases.

4. Do you believe that future events will also be handled with random number generation to make profit based on limited time item acquisition?

Yes. Basic buisness.

5. If you believe that the future events will be handled in the same manner, does this realization negatively effect your trust of Arena Net in regard to handling micro transactions for permanent content?

No. They have never been dishonest.

6. Did you obtain a skin or whatever it is you were looking to get from the black lion trading chests? From the Mad King Chests?

No I didn’t obtain the item I wanted from the chest. I also didn’t obtain the item I wanted from the Mad King Chest.

As I am not a PVPer myself I have no idea if armour is something people use. I just run and attack anyone hoping for the best so their armour is a little irrelevant for my personal (lack of) play style so have never been sure how much truth there is to this reason.

Why I'm not happy with the Halloween event

in Halloween Event

Posted by: Erin.7521

Erin.7521

I had to ask one question. “Where is the event happening?” The response given “Lion’s Arch”. Everything else was more than apparent, and I even later found hints to go to Lions Arch out in the world (just not in the middle of the wilderness where I logged on).

When arriving in Lions Arch there is an event circle surrounding the person to talk to and they are marked with the pumpkin so they were easy to spot. All other issues I noted people finding was simply because they had not actually read the information they were given. It was incredibly clear how to use the machine and what you were using it for but as people skipped through all the instructions (which were very simple) I am not quite sure what else ArenaNet can do.

I suppose the only criticism I can make is it was different to their normal design as it was written text rather than voiced or visual. Perhaps that would have solved some confusion, but would people have listened to a cut screen or would they have just skipped that as well?

Release time Halloween ?

Posted by: Erin.7521

Erin.7521

I think the launch time being ‘unfair’ arguments are ridiculous. The world is a big place not all times are going to suit all people someone is going to have the patch in the middle of the night. Let’s all be thankful we do not live in Asia or Oceania so have nothing going on at practical times!

However, the issue of clear communication is something that should be addressed. Arenanet know they have a global game, they have also known for some time now when Halloween is so their deadline was pretty clear! If you want happy customers you do not give what appears to be solid information and then alter it.

Samrogan your idea that they should not release a time but can release a date so that the patch can be ready suggests it only takes a few hours to finishes tweaks and make sure they are tested and ready to go live, personally I hope they are not working to such close margins!

I do not think the waypoints are remotely responsible for this nor would mounts help. Waypoints are instant they do not keep you out of the zone for more than a few seconds so their effect is minimal on activity levels. There does need to be more done to encourage people that low level zones are an option for their max level characters. However, mounts just aren’t going to do that no one will return to a zone just because they can now run through it on a mount.
