Same here. Had everything maxed and received the message this morning. I submitted a support ticket, but figured I’d also post so others know this seems to be an issue at the moment.

Edit: The game is also weirdly slow to connect this morning. Not sure if related.

I have been unable to access either the game, the forums, or even the wiki for nearly 16 hours as of this posting if using either wifi or ethernet cable. Only by using 3G/4G networks am I able to connect (hence this post). This problem seems to be affecting all of my devices, all of my accounts, and all wifi locations that I have tried so far. When trying to log into the game, I just receive a Code 42. I have also tried running as an administrator, and this has not helped. I tried clientport 80, and this does not work.

Can anyone help me with this issue? I would really like to be able to play again without having to tether.

For general PvE, the motto has always been play what you enjoy. Barring dealing with elitists about raids, you should be able to make the engineer work in any of that content. If you like it, play it

You forgot high-level fractals and speedrun dungeons.

Do folks have issues with engineers in high-level fractals? I haven’t encountered that, but if it’s an issue then, yes, that is a fair point.

I did forget about speed running dungeons, though, thanks

Annoying as the lack of improvements for non-hammer weapons was, the nerfs do not seem to have seriously hurt the engineer/scrapper too much across most game modes. It is fairly obvious that the main target was the meta power scrapper build for PvP and, after playing around with it, I think it still does what it was doing fairly well.

That said, I do think that the balance team might have gone a bit overboard with cutting into both damage and sustain on the meta build. The damage reduction of Shock Shield I understand (people have been complaining about this for ages), but the cast time changes for Medic Gyro and the removal of regeneration from Bunker Down medpacks make less sense.

The first one seems like an attempt at pandering and, as Chaith noted, pretty much does nothing but cripple build diversity (we’re just going to take Healing Turret instead; yes it is easier to interrupt, but I’m guessing there will still be tons of complaining about scrappers that “disappear and reappear with full health a split second later”). It doesn’t kill the scrapper build and permits a bit of counterplay (I guess), but I just don’t really see the point. Nothing to cry over, just a weird choice.

The second one is also minor and has little impact on the meta build, but I take issue with it from the perspective of so-called “vanilla” players: Why nerf a core trait? If you want to nerf scrapper sustain, then why not hit something like Rapid Regeneration? Why should core traits (and, in turn, non-HoT players) suffer for what some folks seem to perceive as the sins of the scrapper? Again, nothing to get too riled up about, but I cannot follow the logic here.

So, all in all engi had some losses in this patch, but nothing too big. Maybe next time we’ll see those non-hammer weapon buffs folks have been asking about for ages

For general PvE, the motto has always been play what you enjoy. Barring dealing with elitists about raids, you should be able to make the engineer work in any of that content. If you like it, play it

PvP/WvW-wise, the engineer is still pretty much in the same place that it was in before the nerfs. As noted in a few other topics, with the nerfs to the cast times on Medic Gyro and Reconstruction Field, the biggest change is that Healing Turret is pretty much back on top as the engineer’s best heal. This is true especially since the somewhat reliable regeneration application from Bunker Down was removed (which, for the life of me, I do not understand, but whatever), and having regeneration up can grant a small buff to healing power.

So, while the engineer did take some hefty hits with this patch (especially the power scrapper builds), the way the profession plays somewhat compensates for its losses. It is still pretty effective for doing what it has been doing. Fun in PvE, effective in PvP (especially with the swarm of DH pewpew as of late), and decent in WvW (at least if you are doing small group/roaming; it offers far less in a zerg but, then again, it’s a zerg).

That said, depending on your playstyle you may opt for a different profession that does what you like to do better.

Hope this helps

Suggestion: Let us exchange BL Goods

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Etaoin.4362

Etaoin.4362

@Vukorep:

1) I never asserted that the CoBLG was the same as the dropped BLC.

2) According to the official wiki, CoBLG may contain: Mystic Forge Stone, BLC Key, Transmutation Charge, Box o’ Fun, Merchant Express, Bank Access Express, BL Salvage Kit, TP Express, Instant Repair Canister, and Revive Orb. Obviously this is not the same loot table as the one for the BLCs that drop.

3) My assertion was simply that it might be convenient for players to be able to exchange items or use a token system to trade items they do not want/need for ones that they do. I also suggested not even using a 1:1 exchange ratio. You seem to think that this suggestion is merely looking a gift horse in the mouth, but it is nothing of the sort. I appreciate the concept of login rewards; I am just suggesting a way of ensuring that they remain rewarding.

3) Why would we need something similar for dropped BLCs? For that matter, why would my argument require it? There are plenty of extant threads complaining about the drop rates from dropped BLCs; this is not intended to be one of them.

@Just a flesh wound

1) Choosing outright is different from the exchange system that I suggested. That said, and as I mentioned in the original post, I cannot fathom how this would possibly cut into gem store profits in a substantial way. Now, if we had details on how much real money was spent on gem store purchases that go toward the items on the drop table we could better kitten that line of argument. As it stands, though, we do not have such information through which to sift.

2) Has Arena Net ever said that they intended to remain self-sufficient on a primarily micro-transaction model? I have never seen that claim made by any of the developers, but if that is the case I would appreciate knowing it.

Now, taking both of these replies into consideration, let us consider one variant of the model I have suggested. In this account, let us say that you can exchange five (5) of the items dropped from the CoBLG for any one (1) item of your choosing. Or, alternatively, devise a scaling system based on gem prices. For example, one BL salvage kit is worth 300 gems; one Merchant Express a mere 35; use a 10:1 rate if you so desire.

Either way, this would mean that you could not even complete the exchange with drops from one rotation of login rewards which would reduce the rate of exchanges and would help to maintain the stability of gem store sales (again, assuming that players are spending a substantial amount on these items). Furthermore, it would continue to give players incentive to login, as it would allow them to build up credit for an item of their choosing at a more or less stable exchange rate.

Worst case scenario: players exchange for up to two high end items per month (e.g. BL salvage kit) costing roughly $7.50 (USD) per player that might have been spent otherwise, and even this number is speculative. While those numbers could of course add up, this also assumes that the company is not recouping its expenses via other micro-transactions and that the players who are exchanging items will not then go on to use actual money to purchase other items instead.

The main point to make in response, though: this was all just a suggestion and was in no way intended as a serious complaint against Arena Net. I can understand how it could be construed as such, but my assumption was that the purpose of the system was to reward things like player loyalty and I was just recommending a possible way of improving it.

Etaoin.4362

I am sure that this has been suggested before, but I just wanted to toss it out there.

We get a Chest of Black Lion Goods as one of the login rewards. Some of these are useful (e.g. Black Lion Salvage Kit); some of them decidedly less so (Instant Repair Canister comes to mind) and see little (if any) use and just stack up space in the inventory/bank.

Why not let players exchange unused/unwanted BL goods for ones that they want from the drop table? The rate does not need to be 1:1 and it would give players a use for items that are just filling-up inventory space.

Alternatively, why not change the way BLG chests work, giving tokens that could be exchanged for items from the drop table instead? I am sure that this idea has been floated as well, but I see no reason not to propose it again.

Frankly, either option is better than the current system that relies exclusively on logging in and being subjected to RNG. The only reason that I can think of for not implementing such a system (other than the time needed to update the game) is that it could cut into profits from gems. That assumes, however, that a sufficient amount of gem sales go toward items on the BLG chest drop table (I sincerely doubt that people are spending substantial amounts on ~80% of those items).

Etaoin.4362

It’s really interesting, actually. I have definitely improved in terms of personal skill since last season, even with the changes to certain professions. I have a better sense of strategy, better understanding of multiple professions, and better reflexes. I have had some good matches both winning and losing where player skill and sportsmanship were at good levels. The season is definitely helping me to become a more skilled PvP player in both sPvP and WvW encounters (e.g. knowing builds and how they tend to be played, how to adapt to the map, etc).

I have also had some atrocious match-ups (also on both winning and losing sides) that have been stressful to the point of physical pain. I am currently stuck between the first and second tiers of ruby, bumping back and forth on a 50/50 win-loss ratio. That is not a consistent 50/50, mind you: some days it is 75/25 (or worse) in one direction or another. With the removal of things like the “no pip loss for close loss” mechanic, it is difficult for me to advance, and I plan on reducing (or ending) how much I play in ranked after I log at least enough dailies to finish up T3 of the achievement (I might play a bit more just to make some headway in T4 so it will be easier to complete next season).

Frankly, the achievement is simply too time-consuming and too frustrating to be worth a serious investment on my part. Additionally, the fact that some of the achievements seem to contribute to a “binge playing” behavior (e.g. accumulate X wins in a single day) just is not good for my health, especially with the odds being fairly good of encountering plenty of “toxic” players along the way. I will treat this as an opportunity to develop my senses of patience and delayed gratification.

scrapper & tempest bunker meta needs to die!

in PvP

Posted by: Etaoin.4362

Etaoin.4362

Oh i totally agree that elites generally need to be toned down. It is still the same problem that they are still must have. But scrapper is really overtuned. It doesn’t matter weither hammer is slow or not it still offers too much utility for dmg it does. Period.

Well, not all of them (coughberserkercough), but I cannot and will not deny the prevalence of elite specs in PvP and all other game modes as well. That being said, I am not sure how ANet could “tone them down” (or even if they should) without somehow gutting them in the process (see threads asking for buffs to base traits). I am not defending or attacking ANet on this one, just making an observation.

As to scrapper’s hammer damage, I don’t have much more to offer on that one, but I’m happy to agree to disagree and leave it at that.

scrapper & tempest bunker meta needs to die!

in PvP

Posted by: Etaoin.4362

Etaoin.4362

I think tempest are ok actually. You need to run supporty amy and lose a lot of dmg for it.

Now scrapper on the other hand is really broken: you run marauder and still being way too tanky while dishing out more dmg than thief.

Saying things like this is so generic as to be pointless because no-one can address your issue or validate your hand waving.

For instance when you say “more damage than a thief”, is this on an opponent who is standing still like a training golem? What period of time are you talking over? When you say scrappers are “way too tanky” how do you define tanky? Is being able to stealth and run-away tanky for instance? When you write the way you do it’s hard to have any meaningful discussion with you because you’re providing no context by which to evaluate your seeming arbitrary statements.

Hammer has backstab multipliers while providing better utility than shield even. Inb4 oh you need to stand in aoe or not dodge the whirl. Well great i need to dodge every single hammer spell scrapper throws at me while i can’t even touch him most of the time due absurd amount of utility hammer offers. That not to mention alchemy and scrapper traits.

You know what anet logic was behind sb (and other weapons tbh) either dealing basically 0 dmg on some spells? UTILITY! But when they designed hammer they simply threw any common sense out of window.

Many of these complaints could be lobbied against a number of classes right now, including certain thief/daredevil and DH builds (which have high evasion/block uptime while dealing a considerable amount of damage and having other utility besides). Should they also be nerfed? Before you reply, you aren’t allowed to say “they require more skill to play;” they are almost completely different play-styles to the point that you are comparing apples and oranges.

Second, I do not know many players that run Marauder on scrapper; most run Paladin or Mercenary now, the main reasons being that we all lost access to Soldier and the slight toughness boost is helpful in the current meta. In the matches I have fought scrappers using Marauder, they did not fare nearly as well as their bulkier brethren. Funny enough, most Marauder-users I see are DD or, even more commonly, DH. Again, though, you seem fixated on scrappers.

Finally, and has been pointed out numerous times and in numerous threads, the hammer on its own is a fairly slow weapon with regard to base attack. Electro-Whirl actually has a considerable windup, and Shock Shield needs to make multiple connections to inflict optimal damage; both are easily kited. Rocket Charge can inflict some pain (if you do not dodge/block/invuln) but, again, it can be interrupted (or simply glitch). I would make a comparison to the revenant’s staff, but that would not be helpful because you would likely focus on its abysmal auto-attack damage as opposed to its low-recharge block, heal/condition-removal, and CC evasion skills.

scrapper & tempest bunker meta needs to die!

in PvP

Okay, let’s clear up a few misconceptions.

1) Scrapper is not a bunker; it’s a bruiser with strong point-fighting ability. Bunkers do a lot more than just hold a point (think tempest/druid level team heals). Tempestmight classify as a bunker, but it has some easy counters (especially boon-strip reaper, CC-lockdown, etc).

2) Most classes have defensively/healing oriented specializations, some of which are not even elite. The “problem” with tempests and scrappers (and, frankly, druids) is that their spec lines synergize so well with their other defensively oriented lines (alchemy and inventions for scrapper; water, earth, and arcane for tempest; nature magic, beast mastery, and wilderness survival for druids). Part of the trade-off in this is that it typically gimps their damage output (at least in tempest’s case) while drastically improving survivability. Here again, though, there are ways of countering. Some of these require coordination with a teammate (unless a player is very skilled, you should be winning a 2v1), but that makes sense: bunkers hold points and require resources (bodies) to remove.

3) Scrapper hammer leap is not a full evade; you can interrupt it, hit through it, etc. It’s a great utility skill, but it’s not like, for comparison, blurred frenzy. It’s more like ranger great sword leap. Additionally, it’s possible to bait a scrapper into using its defensive skills and then bursting them down. It’s a tough trick, to be sure, but it’s completely doable. Also, scrappers typically have a little bonus healing power just by having regeneration up, so, yeah, there’s that, too.

4) The real problem is that you have defensively oriented builds that can still put out quite a bit of damage. Scrapper can do this, druid can do this (thanks to bristleback and smokescale), and tempest…well, tempest not so much. Part of the issue here, I think, is just learn to play: you can easily kite a scrapper, and locking down a druid hurts its ability to sustain more than the pet damage you are taking (or it can, anyway). The problem is that node-centered combat forces you into difficult situations when engaging these professions. They are still winnable, but they require caution and patience (much like fighting a reaper).

Final remarks: if these professions are giving you trouble in a team fight, focus them down first (especially tempests), or alternate focus between that target and a squishier one to pressure the enemy team. If you are fighting them 1v1 on point…Why are you doing that? Your focus early match, generally speaking, should be to hold your home point and mid. If a tempest or scrapper is bunkering home, just don’t engage them without a plus one. They aren’t helping the team fight and your team has two nodes (and, hopefully, an increasing kill count). Seems simple enough.

It doesn’t get better, sadly. After finally getting into Ruby, I have been stuck in tier 1. After losing six consecutive matches (at least half of which were blowouts), I finally won one…by blowout.

It’s funny, because on the first three days of the season I was winning pretty much every match. I only played about 5-10 matches per day, though, and started falling behind the people I was usually getting grouped with as they advanced into higher tiers. After that, I won about 75% of the games I played for a few days. It wasn’t until just yesterday that I started to get slammed with the dreaded loss streaks.

Now the only games I win are pretty much by blowout; in the close losses that we have, my team is usually having to carry one player or a duo-queue group (and it’s almost inevitably the same player(s) during certain time frames) that drag us down. Make of that what you will, I just find it an interesting coincidence.

TL;DR It doesn’t get better. Matchmaking is weird, even when it is in your favor.

I lost the following match, so I have no way of knowing whether the streak would have continued after this match. If anyone else has had a similar problem but won the following match, this would be helpful information. Again, though, the match did not appear in my match history, so I have no idea what occurred.

Sat in queue for five minutes. Okay, I can be patient.

Roll stronghold. Okay, I actually do not hate this map.

Game goes for about 12 minutes. Well, it happens.

We win. No pips. What?

Check match history. Match not even listed. Whaaaaa?

I have read about winning matches and gaining no pips, but this match was not even recorded in my history for some reason.

I am going to assume that there is no chance of my getting my pips back (would have been two from winning streak), but can I at least get an explanation?

Only 3 things for balance

in PvP

Etaoin.4362

1. Scrapper has too high sustain. Reworking the invulnerability trait and/or changing hammer leap heals to not heal the scrapper would solve this problem. Scrapper is currently the new version of the old vampirism d/d ele.

2. Chill does too much damage. reducing this by 50% from 700-800 to 300-400 or then the maximum time you can stack chill to 3s maybe.

3. Druid pets have too much damage. Either make the new pets scale with ranger stats, reduce the damage or disable the new pets in pvp.

Also a thing that might end up being too broken is thief stomp elite skill that works with quickness.

1. Iffy. With AMR and Self-Regulating Defenses on the relatively high (yes, relatively high) cool-downs they have, scrapper already had some nice shaves to sustain. SRD can be a double-edged sword in terms of activating other skills and prevents point capture anyway, so it really is not that great. Also, the hammer leap only heals when going through a water field, and that is a perk that any profession gets from leaping through said fields. That just seems a strange change to make. Personally, I would rather see other professions brought up to scrapper-level sustain rather than scrapper hit harder. Of course, then people will complain about the return of the bunker meta, but that is why these sorts of balance changes should be going through constant minor revisions.

2. I agree that chill necromancer needs some shaving; I like the suggestions that Silverkey referenced above. These would give the necromancer a way of staying competitive in PvP without being insane, and provide a buff to PvE capability. The necromancer is in an interesting place right now and, while I do not like fighting against them, they are still beatable. A slight increase on ICD for some traits might also help with this (e.g. might stacking). Boon corruption is also annoying, but then that is not what we are talking about right now.

3. I am also iffy on this one. On the one hand, I agree that some of the new pets deal a ton of damage and that this can easily make a 1v1 with a ranger/druid lopsided. On the other hand, most druids do rather poor damage themselves (and the exceptions tend to be incredibly glassy), so most of their damage output comes from the pets. A slight reduction in pet damage might not be too bad, but I think we should be careful and leave them with a viable offense. Disabling the pets is overkill, and I am not clear on how we would alter their stats to fit with those of the ranger itself (especially since pet stats have been traditionally independent except when affected by traits, if memory serves). So, of the suggestions I think damage reduction is best, but I do not think it needs to be a particularly severe reduction.

As to thief stomp: I hate when this happens to me, but that is what the skill is intended to do, and I actually think it is pretty cool when used effectively. The skill is also an elite, meaning the thief has to make a rather substantial trade-off to use it. In the current meta, for example, this means not running Basilisk Venom, which can be utterly devastating, especially with venom-share.

Can't stomp in PvP

Oh, yeah! I remember having this problem a while back, but not until recently has it become an issue again. Any fix for these cases, or are we stuck trying to blast down HP and hope our attacks are not “obstructed” somehow?

Played a match where I tried to stomp a guy five times; each time the stomp acted like it completed, but failed. Anyone else having this problem?

I have been crashing while using both the 32-bit and 64-bit clients. Can anyone help me to figure out why? Here is a sample report:

Rune of the Scrapper

hmm im undecided if i find the scrapper rune THAT useful compared to others…

I just tried it out in PvP to see if it was worth an investment. I think you could live without it, but if you like to fight in the thick of things it is quite nice to have the extra power and 7% damage reduction (especially with full stacks of Adaptive Armor).

I have always appreciated your presence in-game and on these boards. You were the one who got me to seriously consider the necromancer as a profession, and it has remained in my main rotation since then. Best of luck in your endeavors.

As far as the HP concerns go: you can probably switch from Knight’s to Solider’s for a lot of those builds simply because so many traits in the Firearms line will boost your crit rate anyway, and Adaptive Armor will help boost your armor rating. Of course, I do not have Firearms on the second build (although you could do a variant there, too).

That being said, I actually found both builds to have an ample amount of HP and condition removal via Healing Turret and the elixirs. Elixir C in particular can remove three conditions every 20 seconds and can convert all conditions every 32 seconds. Another nice thing about C is that, if you have Chill on you, that can be converted to Resistance, which is a nice little perk. Of course, a properly spec’d condition build will give you problems, but the higher HP pool will also only help you out so much.

I think you are right, though, not to be sold on FT. Juggernaut+Mass Momentum builds are not horrible by any means, but it does restrict what you can do with your other utilities and the rest of your play-style. As a bunker it can be adequate for fighting on point, despite the atrocious tracking on FT’s auto-attack (I hope a dev sees this note), because of skills like Napalm, Air Blast, and Smoke Vent that help control the space. The problem is fighting foes who attack from a range: you either play defensively and stay on point (which almost never works in this game), or you have to go off point to engage them. Swapping from hammer to rifle or swapping Supply Crate for Mortar Kit can help with this a bit, but then you lose the utility of what you traded. So, yes, it is still good to be wary of FT builds, although Scrapper does offer some buffs to that style.

Interestingly, I was not sold on gyros, which your build employs. I do see the idea behind it, though, and I can see how that could be viable as a nice bruiser build. If gyros do get a sufficient rework, then I might give something like that a shot. Actually, I should ask you: did you find your condition removal sufficient relying on Elixir Gun? If so, then I might swap Elixir C for it on that first build in a few weeks :-)

Not really sure anything was too powerful (maybe chrono double burst), but there were definitely some solid and less-than-solid specs.

Solid
-Chronomancer
-Druid (with the right build)
-Herald
-Reaper
-Scrapper

Not-so-solid
-Berserker
-Daredevil
-Dragonhunter
-Tempest

What made a spec “solid” for me is whether it gave a profession a new way of being played such that said play-style was prima facie viable. Reaper and Scrapper both let their respective base professions become front line brawlers, even bunkers, in ways that previous setups did not allow. Druid and herald make for great support specs that can also stand on their own (at least in certain game modes) and, again, play fairly differently from their base professions (maybe less so for revenant, but then the whole profession is new). Chronomancer…you know what? I don’t even need to speak to this one.

The less solid specs had some difficulty filling niches in new and/or meaningful ways. Berserker, for example, seems to be geared toward condition-burst damage. Burning is powerful, but the spec never really felt like it executed on that motif in a manner that was as viable as other condition specs or that synergized with base trait lines. Daredevil and tempest, on the other hand, not only felt weak in providing any original features for their respective bases, but were also in some ways less compatible with base trait lines (at least in terms of producing builds with any sort of direction). Finally, dragonhunter: …I also have no idea what to say here. I saw some decent DH play in PvP, but only during team fights and never in a way that either another profession or different style of guardian could not do considerably better.

I had a lot of fun playing scrapper during this beta, even with the bugs and wonky skills (looking at you, Rocket Charge). I also heard that it might become a viable bunker (or at least a bruiser) for PvP. Did anyone come up with a good build? I tried a few and found them moderately effective, but I figure that some of you folks found some much better ones. Here is what I mostly played with:

AMR simply is not affecting the turret (or, if it is, I have yet to see it).

You can unlink it at any time using the generated codes and will receive a new secret code when you re link it. I tried win auth and it does not save anything. So I’d say your best bet would be to use a different app or else write the code diwn and take it with you in your travels.

To receive generated codes, you must have the initial secret code, no? Otherwise WinAuth will not produce numeric codes. This is the problem: I do not have the initial secret code. Since I do not have the initial secret code, I cannot generate new codes, meaning I cannot unlink the authenticator. Does that make sense?

It is asking for two consecutive codes from the app.

Edit: Never mind, I misunderstood which question this was replying to.

That being said, is there any other way of obtaining the password (WinAuth calls it a “Secret Code”) that links my account with the authenticator, or do I just have to keep waiting for support?

It is also worth noting that the unlinking instructions themselves are rather confusing:

“To complete unlinking, enter the current code from your authenticator twice. (Note: This automatically sets your account to use e-mail authentication if you had previously verified your e-mail address.)

We ask for two codes from your mobile authenticator in order to ensure your account security. Please confirm that you enter two different codes and that the second is newer than the first. (Note: Rather than waiting, you can immediately generate a new code with some authenticator apps.)"

So…is one supposed to type the same code twice, or two different codes? The first paragraph suggests the former, the second the latter.

Etaoin.4362

Well, I found the answer on my own: it does not send both. I still have not received any further response to my support ticket, but I am hoping that this will change soon? I really need to either have the current authenticator un-linked from my account or get a new copy of the password.

Also, on a different (but in my case related) note: Why is the password for my GW2 support account different from my, well, account account, and why will it not send me my password when I request it?

Other than saving the code? It sounds like you are in the same boat as several other people. My suggestion is to go ahead and submit a ticket to support so you will be farther along in the queue. Make sure you explain your issue in as much detail as possible. With any luck, it will be resolved within 24 hours.

When logging in from a new IP address, if one has two-step authentication set up, then will one still receive an authentication e-mail as well? I ask because I recently set up two-step authentication, but my password for the authenticator (WinAuth) did not save for some reason. I will be traveling in a week and would like to be able to access my account during that time, so I would like to clear this up as soon as possible. I have contacted support about this, but have not yet received a response other than the initial confirmation of ticket e-mail (which is reasonable, since I only submitted the ticket recently). If anyone could clarify this, it would be appreciated.
