I’ve had the game since launch and still haven’t done most of the dungeons. Mostly due to the first couple months always being kicked from groups because i played a warrior so i just stopped trying.

GW1 was far more horizontal than this game is. GW1 you were max level with the best gear before leaving the tutorial area. Gw1 had no subscription and no micro transactions at all yet still got some free content updates every now and then. A single months worth of gem store stuff they add to this game cost more than gw1 and all the expansions combined.

The last few months of gw1 before gw2 came out had some pretty decent free content updates and i think had a couple after gw2 came out. The only added minor micro transactions to gw1 not long before gw2 came out and from what i remember it was only bank slots which in that game were not needed at all and character slots.

Your memory is quite faulty.

It was 100% impossible to get the best gear in the Tutorial Area in GW1. You are also ignoring the rather big grind required in order to even do the main story or the rather massive grind needed for certain rather important skills.

They also had an in-game store, which was released quite early in the games life. Which sold skills and stuff like that.

Go play nightfall, you get the best gear just before getting on the ship off the tutorial island. The store was only pvp unlocks for people who wanted to only play pvp and not go through pve to get skills for pvp. There was no grind to do the main story in the first gw.

cant for temple gear and dungeon gear Clarkcd

Or any gear that wasn’t from a drop. Not being able to salvage everything is one of my biggest issues with this game. Kills me a bit inside when i am forced to just throw away old karma gear because i can’t sell or salvage it when i out leveled it, specially the first few days the game was out when i was leveling my first guy when i had to grind a bit to get the karma needed to get each piece of the set. This hasn’t really effected me till now when i bought some lower level gear from various merchants to unlock the skins and being reminded that the gear i just bought with gold (faction sets) and karma cannot be salvaged or sold, the faction set i bought for about 10g, i just cannot bring myself to delete it now that i have the skins.

Best solution imo for this is to allow us to salvage every piece of gear, there is no reason not to. I think the only reason they did this win the first place was when the game launched faction gear was pennies and people bought them by the truckload and salvaged them, now that they are too expensive to just buy and salvage there isn’t much point in keeping the restriction.

Yay, that means i will be forever stuck with 2 stones i was left with when converting my stones and crystals. Wonder if there is anything i will be able to do with them short of just throwing them away.

As much as i hate to bring this up, you can blame the lack of holy trinity for this. Everyone is dps, everything can do massive amounts of dmg to you no matter what stats you have unless you dodge, and since you don’t need stats to be able to dodge everyone goes with the pure dmg boosting stats and with zerk being one of the main dmg dealer stat sets everyone goes on it. Healing in the game is so little and the effect from heal boosting stats is (in my experience) so minor that gearing for healing is also useless, so again that brings everyone to pure dmg dealing stat sets which is usually zerker. They decided that instead of making other sets more worthwhile they would nerf one of the main stats of the zerker set into the ground which does nothing but punish every other stat set and doing nothing to get people to switch from zerker. Critting often and critting hard is one of the main ways you deal tons of dmg in just about every rpg ever made, with no healers and no tanks everyone need to be doing tons of dmg. The dot caps during fights with a lot of people don’t help this either, just makes the stats that make those better not worth getting most of the time.

I apologize for bringing the holy trinity into this but i feel the lack of it is what is making any sort of balance to the game next to impossible for them to do.

No they won’t be. There’s a dev post somewhere that addresses this. Simply due to the sheer volume of the work required for that, they simply can’t unlock such items.

There are a few that would require hardly any, such as most event items since the vast majority of them either have achievements you get the item from or achievements you get from getting the item.

The only thing i deleted that bums be out are the mad king books from the first Halloween event. Accidentally deleted em when cleaning out my bank not to long ago.

Hardly any is subjective.

Sure, it might be hardly any to check and restore for one person, or even half a dozen. But 100s? Possibly a 1000 or more? We don’t know how many accounts are active, how many have what levels of achievements, how many have which skins in need of being restored. Etc. Would take quite a bit to try to encompass all the potential possibilities. That takes man power, processing power, and time. All of which cost $$.

Its just simpler for them to draw the line at if you deleted it, you’re sort of out of luck. It sucks, but they do have to draw the line somewhere.

All they need to do is add a check in the system for achievements and if you have an achievement tied to a piece of gear it would unlock the skin. No one said anything about going through everyone’s provide by hand and unlocking it for people who have the right achievements. They don’t even need to add a system to check if you have it in your inventory or not, just have it unlock it in the wardrobe, if it is already unlocked then just don’t do anything. Doesn’t even need to restore them either just add to wardrobe.

The blog post says “Major traits will now be unlocked via traits guides, a new in-game item.”. The part you are telling him to look at is something completely different. He is talking about the 3 manuals you can buy now from the class trainer.

I didn’t see anything about the current trait manuals. I would also like to know what happens for ones we already used as well. But at the moment there isn’t much point asking for an answer seeing we the update should be tomorrow so we can just see then.

You only highlighted and agreed with what I said. These zones are dead for a reason. Its not populating them any more than they were. Its just congesting the tiny portion of the playerbase that are actually there into one spot. There is still no reason or incentive for people to be there, while the already congested maps become moreso as people from all servers are thrust together in who knows how many overflows as new maps are created (not to mention higher limits means stupid size zergs in Queensdale and the likes. Just wait for the holy crap lag topics that will appear).
They are creating the illusion of population. If xx zone is dead and takes merging 24 different servers into one to make a population count of around 30 people…that says a lot about the content of said zone.

You seem to be missing the entire point i am trying to make. I agree some areas need their content looked at, the problem is they have no way to know what content is most popular and which isn’t when lots of people are unable to play the content due to lack of people to play it with. For some zones like starter zones where you can easily do the stuff alone if you absolutely had to and people still avoid it (like it is currently for some of the starter zones) then it does need a bit of attention. But for other zones like the Orr zones that require a group to do most if not all of the content there, there is no way to know why people aren’t playing that content. It could be there just isn’t enough people to do it, or it could be that it is just straight up bad. Once this system is up and running and proves to work (or not, but that is irrelevant right now) any zones that are left more or less dead in the water they would know that those zones might need a bit of attention.

If zones come to the point where they are so populated due to this system that people start lagging then this system would be a running success. They already have settings in place you can freely change to help with lag from lots of players, if lowering these doesn’t help then you might have want to look into upgrading your computer or buying a new one all together. This won’t be a problem for many people, specially those who play wvw and have no problem seeing as wvw can have many more people on screen than pve can. I have been in many huge zerg vs zerg battles in wvw and this hasn’t really been an issue, specially after they added the settings to lower the quality/quantity of players on screen at once.

But again, even if this system gives some zones 5 or 6 extra extra people from combining all the servers, that is 5 or 6 people who wouldn’t be there otherwise and could be enough to make something that you used to be unable to complete now doable and again would mean, at least for me, that this system is a success.

I am not saying the system doesn’t need tweaking or that it is perfect. Some people will be inconvenienced by this, but anet can easily tweak it once it has been tested to be more suitable for everyone like the people who are part of massive multi guild alliances or rpers. But honestly would you rather a good sized chunk of the game stay largely unplayable for a large chunk of the population or be inconvenienced a bit for a month or 2 but have a healthier game that everyone can enjoy not just those that do stuff that doesn’t rely on others that currently don’t exist where they are. It isn’t fair to continue asking the same people like myself who want to play content we payed for nearly 2 years ago without jumping through hoops to do just that. I know it isn’t fair to inconvenience them either but anet has already said many times that they have things in place to allow them to continue doing that they are doing. The part that is unfair is how they are doing everything they can to stop this update from happening when this update could make the game finally enjoyable for many people.

My TL;DR of the thread…
Half of the posters say, “Community is the most important part of this game to me. How dare Anet expand the sense of community!”
The other half says, “Community is the most important part of this game to me. Why would you complain about Anet expanding the sense of community in the game?”

Edit: The only arguments I can agree with are those of RP players. I can understand where they’re coming from, and wonder how Anet will handle that situation.

There isn’t much if anything anet needs to add for the rpers. Anet already said anyone you see on your server now will be the ones the system will prioritize putting you with in the new system. It should be exactly how it is now for the rpers.

I’m telling you that I’m on TC and during the Marionette I couldn’t get on my home server for days on end and it made me feel like crap. And you know, there may very well have been just as many TC guys in my overflow, but it had the word overflow on it and guess what. People complained. This is one of the complaints that this sort of change will fix.

How exactly does it fix that? By having no home server no one can complain they aren’t on it? Wow… that’s not a fix, that’s a “this is why we can’t have nice things” situation.

Yes, they’ll have a little less server strain as there will ideally only be one not full option for any server zone. But a similar amount of strain could have been releaved in many many different ways that didn’t destroy server communities.

The change will be nice for all the people complaining about low populations. But it destroys server communities while it happens. It’s hardly seems like the best option.

Hard to destroy server communities on the many servers that didn’t have one due to low population. Name off a few ways they could fix server population for all servers in all zones without making us play server hopscotch whenever we want to play the game. The way i see it, megaservers or another system similar to it is the only way to fix the low population issue most servers have.

Megaservers: Give us a choice.

This system is made so that instead of having a bunch of near dead versions of the same map that can’t complete anything due to low population it instead puts all those players into a single full map then starts another version when needed.

Explain how this fixes population.
Dead map is still dead when merged with 20 other dead versions. It does not in any way fix the inherent problem that there is still no reason to be on those maps. They are dead for a reason. So instead of 1 person on the map, you might have 8 or 9. Yeah, that doesnt sound like a fix, but rather a quick-patch that looks like its doing something its not.

Because almost no zone is 100% dead on every server. NA has 24 servers, if each of those servers has at least 1-2 people at any given time that would mean when combined there would be 24-48 people which is enough so that you would start seeing people around doing stuff. Then you factor in the fact that nearly every zone is fairly active on at least 1 server, so when those 1-2 people on other servers are added to the server that has the semi active version of the zone it becomes playable for everyone not just those on that server. For example the Orr zones, they are completely dead on pretty much every server except for 1 or 2 where many people from all servers accumulate to do the content.

With the megaserver system we don’t have to bookmark a dozen sites to find out what server actively does the content we want to do, instead we just go there and do the content. There is also the fact that we can only guest on so many servers at any one time before we have to wait for them to reset, if i want to play a little bit of a bunch of different things in a 24 hour period that only have 1 or 2 servers that actively do them i can’t. I have never personally had this issue with guesting but i am sure there are people who have.

The mega server is not something I have ever seen people asking for.

The mega server feature is something people have been asking for since beta. Those of us begging for this since then just haven’t referred to it as “mega server”, it is usually referred to as “districts” like the first guild wars game. Mega servers are not exactly what we have been asking for, but they are something that is a solution for a major problem that has been around since launch which is population. This system is made so that instead of having a bunch of near dead versions of the same map that can’t complete anything due to low population it instead puts all those players into a single full map then starts another version when needed.

Yes, some servers don’t need this for some zones, but most of them do. Even the max population servers have this problem in most maps. I have yet to see a single server that has a healthy population of players in more than 1 or 2 zones at a time. If you hate this system that many have been begging for that will bring back many players and most importantly make a huge chunk of the game finally playable on more than 1 or 2 servers, then do us all a favor and quit playing entirely. This need to be done whether you like it or not and has been needing to be done since launch.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I don’t really care either way for mounts, i just want default run speed to get a decent boost, specially in combat speed. The slow movement speed is one of the main reasons i barely touch wvw, hate dying and taking 10+ minutes to run back only to die again either as soon as i get back to the group or before i even get there. At the very least i want combat speed to be the same as regular speed.

But then again with the coming update it will be possible to make a alternate spec just for getting around which will be one of the first things i do when it comes out.

They should do away with servers completely except for wvw and make the main game districts like the first game. Doing so would get rid of all empty map issues and get rid of the issues with getting guilds or other big groups together in the same map. They could even make gem store tickets guilds can buy to get their own private district for a week or something like with the spvp thing.

Ok, you do realize that overflows are the exact same thing as districts just with a different name right? All they need to change or add would be the drop down bar we used to have to switch district/overflows. Other then that it is all the same thing and same mechanics being used.

Yes but overflows are server specific where as districts from gw1 are gamewide. What i want are districts like the first game, not just a dropdown for all overflows for the current server which would be fairly useless.

We need stronger boss condition feedback.

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Finaldeath.1059

Finaldeath.1059

This is one of my biggest issues with this game. Normally i wouldn’t have a problem with these being conditions on other games but in this game with so many conditions coming and going on targets it is virtually impossible at times to see what these conditions are and what they do. They need a new special conditions area for bosses or other special event type conditions that can easily be highlighted to see what they do and so it is easier to see when critical conditions/buffs are active.

There have been way too many events lately that require you to focus on these conditions to do certain things and you have no idea of this because they are so hard to read. This event isn’t too bad as they are basically color coded, but the point still stands that seeing what different conditions and effects do and when they are up is kitten near impossible. At the very least they need an ingame “boss guide” that gives tips and/or hints for each boss or special fight that shows stuff like conditions and buffs you need to look out for.

But on the topic of trouble clicking mobs in zergs, something seriously needs to be done about this. There is also the issue of not seeing a single thing during fights like the knights that drop aoes we need to avoid when the ground is completely covered with friendly aoes. Then the whole not being able to see enemies animations due to 20+ people spamming attacks on it. Something needs to be done about this that doesn’t involve dropping all the settings and making the game look like crap.

Well, I defended these new events at first..

Bosses like these belong in raid dungeons, but seeing as this game does not have raids they plop it in overworld and we get issues like are brought up here. Strip these bosses out of the world and put them in special instances where groups of organized players can group up and do them whenever they want.

I am fine with hard content, but if you want to make content that requires a bunch of organized people working together then stop beating around the bush and just add raids. If you don’t want to add raiding then stop making this content.

Can even leave watered down versions of these bosses that are on level with the zone they are in that can be completed like most other world bosses and make special instances with the lvl 80 high cooperation versions with the option to join them as a single party and get grouped up with other parties like regular dungeons or with a full organized group.

They can’t really add new ingredients realistically without adding new zones/areas for them to grow in, it would be weird just having new ingredients popping up in existing areas. Instead i think they should make more of the stuff you make from cooking more worthwhile to make, the vast majority of the stuff you make to get up to 400 cooking is useful for nothing but vendoring for 1-2 copper each.

I didn’t really do much cooking till about a week ago when i made a guardian and made him a chef but found it extremely addicting just combining random stuff to make things but was always left extremely disappointed with each recipe after seeing it’s stats compared to stuff like the candy corn recipes which are 100 times better and seeing the vast majority of them having the exact same stats as countless other recipes just a different name and icon.

But ya, for me i would prefer them going back to all current food items you make and rework their buffs, make them more unique and some just straight up buff.

This is the reason i don’t buy skins at all. They are way too expensive for only being single use, they should be added to the achievement skins claim thing or a special gem store skin claim thing and have it backwards compatible with previously bought skins like the day 1 hat.

They can even add a limit to how many you can use at a single time and each extra copy of the skin you buy you get an extra use. For example if you buy a skin once you can use it on one character but if you delete the skin or transmute it to something else you can then use it on another character, if you buy 2 sets of it you can use on 2 characters at a time and so on.

Most people are aware they are group events, the issue is that each one takes up a huge amount of space. They are everywhere and cut off a pretty big chunk of content for new players. Events like these don’t belong in starter zones, specially if they pop up as frequent as they do and take up as much space as they do.

Could be wrong but i think you get most of the insignia recipes from the crafting merchant. They can’t be discovered.

So... this is going away as well?

Its a story…. whats the alternative…. Scarlet wins, Krait and Nightmare court turn out to be unbeatable, nightmare tower here to stay cause players cant do anything about it?

We also beat Zhaitan but his minions are still running around everywhere. I am personally getting sick of all this temporary content, i want more stuff that will stay around other than crappy minigames that noone likes or plays. I want more permanent content that they actual put effort into rather than temporary content that is riddled with bugs until they day it gets taken down. I want more updates that fix bugs and bad design that has been around since day 1, like everything in the orr zones.

This happened to my friend a few times the other day on his hunter, he couldn’t use any of his skills the entire fight but the next one he could.

The hard thing is that ANet doesn’t really care for bots as I see it.

Trust me they care, for the first 5 or so months of the game being out you would see massive zergs of bots patrolling areas. One big spot for the bots was the farm in the southwest part of queensdale, was nothing but a sea of naked hunters with bears. Every server had them there around the clock, they would never leave.
Now i rarely ever see bots.

elite skills and what they lack

This is why i just have the signet elite on my warrior and almost never actually use it, just go off the passive.

The Elite Signet is really the one signet that should be active whenever you can use it. Its really one of the best elite skills i know, and the recast timer doesn’t restart when the active part ends like on so many others. So if you have 48s recast with signet mastery and the skill lasts for 30 seconds you can recast it 18 seconds later. Now take some food that gives longer boon duration and maybe 2 Runes of Water and you can have it active nearly all the time.

I never see a difference in damage when i use it so i usually just leave it there for when i am running around for the swiftness.

What they all lack for me are cooldowns that allow me to remember they exist as I’m playing. No matter how great an ability is, if I can only use it for 10 seconds of out every 240, I generally don’t care about it.

400 Free Gems for not playing...

They should have put the gems in the birthday presents; This way, leavers would get the gems, and we could actually get excited about our birthday presents. I’m just not excited to open my next one for ANOTHER Queen Jennah, a booster that will languish away in my bank, and a instant lvl20 scroll that is completely useless if (like me) all your characters are >20.

Ya, the birthday chests were kinda meh, the first time opening it was great but seeing all my characters getting the same exact mini was really disappointing, i wish it was like gw1 where it gave a random one from a pool. 100-200 gems would have been a great thing to have in the birthday chests instead of the booster or lvl 20 scroll.

Four updates left this year...

I No Longer Care - Do You?

in Living World

I would prefer permanent content, the living story stuff was ruined for me during the karka event that i completely missed out because i couldn’t connect and when i did i had up to a minute delay on skills. The issues from the karka event haven’t happened again from what i have seen but almost every living story has bugs that don’t get fixed before it goes away.

Also not a fan of not being able to do anything other than the living story because everyone is forced to cram it all in during the limited time it is up so everything else is empty. What makes it worse now is how there are multiple limited time things going on at once so even parts of the living story are hard to do.
