I would really like to be able to use my PvP skin in PvE yeah. Also there is a small effect, since you get dyes, but that’s about it :P (don’t think titles really count)
Quotes failing (as usual)
@Derps
Did you read the OP? You won’t be known for PvP in this game!
“Oh look that guy is wearing high rank armor! Hmm yeah, he exploited some chests that gave a token that was way to high rank. Oh ok”.
“Hey look, that guy has a sweet weapon! Yeah he’s been glory farming in hot joins for a week to get that. Oh ok.”
So where exactly you get recognition from? That pug you roflstomped that isn’t gonna remember your name and won’t think highly of it because, ya know, it was pug vs premade? Pretty much all the “big name” PvPers are big names because they got their names in other games.
Hall of Heroes though was announced on all servers, you could watch the matches (we really need this soon, really) and it was the BEST OF THE BEST. If you won there people knew you won and they knew you were darn good for winning it.
I’d rather be for a revamp of WvW, with them removing the PvE elements from it and people using their PvP characters their instead of their PvE characters. Then WvW doesn’t have to give exp/gold, you don’t have to pay repairs, you don’t need lv80 + full exos to be really effective and it would stop the people going there just to farm exp/get vistas instead of actually helping out. Simply completely separate PvE and PvP.
If ANet didn’t want pugs doing tournaments they wouldnt have allowed it but they do. I agree there needs to be some type of system in place. As it is now if you run a premade even one made by spamming map chat and putting a random group of people together, as long as you are all able to get on voice chat you face roll almost every match since there are so many pugs in tpvp.
The only people who are against something like this being added are bad premades who actually want to face pugs to farm glory.
Lol, if you want to farm glory you go enter an empty HJ server, tournaments are pretty crappy for glory farming.
Also as hacks said, you can get into the final round with a pug, IF the members know what they’re doing. So why exactly would you need to separate pug vs premade? Wouldn’t it be far better to separate skilled and not skilled? As stated before the biggest issue with premade vs pug tends to be communication. If gw2 had ingame voice chat a random group can be just as good as a bunch of folks you picked up in the mists. Of course premades that train together daily will be out of your league, but they should also be out of your skill “league” so you’ll rarely match them.
You got 5 minutes before the match. That should easily be enough to A: Discuss your strategy and B: change to characters (most higher “level” PvPers play multiple characters) your team is currently lacking. Imo with a decent ELO and ingame voice chat support you’d be a lot better of than if you’d split up premades and pugs. If you give pugs separate matchmaking, as I said before, you’re going to face a whole load of new problems again.
I agree with Colton. Make it easier for pugs to battle premades instead of seperating the two. If you seperate the two you’ll have to build a whole system to properly balance the pugs, rank/class wise and another system to stop people from leaving (because that will happen a lot. QQ they got both our svanirs, QQ I think their setup is a bit better than ours, QQ they haz higher ranks, QQ y u no lissen to me bda stratage? etc etc).
It’d be better to focus those resources on something everyone can use, like an integrated voice chat. This would also be great for PvE, so I really think it’s something they should consider.
Do Mesmers still believe that nobody is able to see the real mesmer after 30 days of playing? If thats all it takes to totally counter and destroy a mesmer, why are they still in top tier tournaments? If what you guys say is true then mesmers should suck hairy balls in higher skilled games…but…
- Looks at thread title *
I’m quite sure this thread is about clones, not Mesmers in general. Oh and I think the thread title also answers your question. It’s not Mesmers that think people don’t know where they are, it’s that people still don’t know where the real Mesmer is.
Edit: Seriously, why are stars the symbol to make text bold >.<
Constant stacks of confusion? Really? I found confusion to be highly inefficient and hard to apply long enough. The duration is already short and it only has a trait to increase it, unlike other conditions that also have runes + sigils. Not to mention it only really worked well against people using quickness, since nobody spammed attacks fast enough otherwise.
About clones. Meh. Seriously meh. Clones do NO damage, unless you use them for shatters, in which case they get destroyed, thus no more clones, thus no hard times spotting the Mesmer. The more clones a Mesmer has out, the lower his damage output.
Oh and Asmodean, massive teamfight and you have no AoE on your side? Perhaps you don’t need a lrn2play, but a lrn2teamcomposition might fit there. Yes Phantasms/Clones are REALLY squishy. Phantasms/clones don’t dodge your AoEs so all you need to do is throw one AoE into the mess and you clean up most of the illusions. Sure it won’t kill the Mesmer, but he’ll do barely any damage.
Leveling is easy so reaching level 80 doesn’t feel special. However, obtaining a legendary weapon which is one of our achievements would make one feel special and that’s the route I’m taking instead of making alternate characters.
This is the way I feel as well. I did my last levels by simply going to LA and levelling my Jeweller. I had no intent on lvling to 80 that way, but I simply took my ore I had farmed in Orr, turned em into ingots and voila 80. When you do multiple lvls in a few minutes it’s hard to feel any kind of accomplishment.
I lolled.
Perhaps you should learn the difference between a clone and a phantasm? Clones look like the Mesmer and don’t do damage. Phantasms hurt but look nothing like the Mesmer. Sorry but a Mesmer can’t hide behind his illusions and do loads of damage at the same time because he needs two different types of illusions for that.
Edit:
Oh and we can only have 3 illusions at a time btw.

What I get from most posts in this subject is that thieves deal stupid dmg atm and should be looked into by Anet…which sadly wont happen for months to come =/ so have some fun on a easy mode class its vanilla (insert game of horror’s name) all over again…I know game developers have actually played other mmos and do testing prior to release…dunno how some balance issues dont get addressed a lot sooner
This.
The burst damage on Thieves is just to insane at the moment, especially combined with quickness. If you’re even a split second to late with reacting you’ve pretty much lost the fight already and considering Thieves can get that split second so easily thanks to stealth it’s just silly.
Earlier today I got hit for 8k by Steal. I mean wtf?! Isn’t that supposed to be a gap closer with a trait that allows it to do SOME damage?
Edit: Oh and taking one person down in 2-3 seconds is an absolutely crappy ability! There’s absolutely no use for that in teamfights, there’s no point downing someone and stealth stomping him 5 seconds after a fight starts. I mean, no fight is ever won by killing the enemy at the node you’re trying to cap right?
(edited by Freakiie.8940)
Ok as the title says. How do you 1vs1 a decent Thief? Pistol Whip and Death Blossom give me major problem if the Thief has a clue.
Their passive speed is to fast to really kite, even without initiative their damage isn’t all that bad and whenever you think you’re getting somewhere they just stealth. Or you bump into a Death Blossom build and bleed to death.
So yeah, what kinda build and tactic do you guys use to fight Thieves?
That’s a clone, not a phantasm. Also if you see the Mesmer dodge = real deal.
Mesmers generally have 2 Phantasms (one on each weaponset) that do damage. There are utility phantasms, however these are utility and don’t do very high damage. Also since there’s a 3 illusions maximum, 3 phantasms means no clones.
The clones have some easy tells. They use no offhand, they don’t have buffs like Chaos Armor, they barely move unless their target moves out of range, they only auto atk and they do barely any dmg.
Against heavy AoE it quite often happens my phantasms die before they can really get their atk up and I’m left with barely any damage.
Uhmm….
That would defeat the entire purpose of the clones? They already do nearly 0 damage, so why would I ever bother with clones if there’s a big fat sign “STOP, I’m not real!” on them?
Oh and I think Jordan got beaten by a Mesmer once to often.
Well just get a feel for your class and go for like rank 10 in sPvP, then try to find yourself some parties for tournaments. You won’t have leavers, you won’t have autobalance, it’s only 5vs5 so a bit less of a zerg and there’s actually some tactics involved. sPvP for me is nothing more than a place to do 1-2 runs when you’re trying out a new build and see whether it’s any good.
After you charge MoC you gain 2 uses (3 with a trait), which you gotta trigger yourself. Stability makes you immune to control effects (ensnare isn’t included here, so it’s not that effective against Melees with an ensnare skill) and it also breaks control effects (so it does work against Bulls Charge or Pistol Whip).
2 seconds sounds very little, but it’s one of the lowest CD stabilities in the game and I personally find it great for stomping people. Defensively I consider Blink to be better since you can also teleport away from ensnares, but if you just want a stun breaker MoC works.
D/D in dungeons is just dangerous because mobs do very high damage and you get a lot less time to react when they turn on you. Elementalists already aren’t the sturdiest (especially if you go fire heavy) so D/D will get downed a lot.
D/D water auto attack does have the advantage though that you can very easily stack vulnerability, but just standing there auto attacking is probably pretty boring. You’re also pretty low on AoE abilities, which is one of the few areas an Elementalist really shines.
S/D allows for the most effective might stacking. You got Flame Ring, which is one of the biggest fire fields and then Dragon Tooth, Phoenix, Arcane Wave, Earthquake as finishers to get 12 stacks of area might. (Yes Churning Earth also is a blast finisher, but you usually won’t make it in time. Perhaps with Fire Field trait? Never tried that.) Problem is just that you have to be pretty close to the enemy. It’s also the only field you have with S/D which is a shame. Other than that you got pretty decent single target damage, a bunch of blinds and fast casting vulnerability available. Bleeds other classes do better and you can’t stack em beyond 25 stacks, so usually not worth it. Your support healing is also very limited.
Then you could use a Focus as offhand, which lets you keep the flame field, but makes it into a small line, so generally more annoying to pull of combos with. You keep the blast finishers (one moved to water though) and gain better defensive abilities with a 4s immunity, a projectile protection and a projectile reflect. Can be useful against certain mobs with slow firing hard hitting projectles (CoE anyone? >.<).
Last, but not least, the staff. The weapon that’s generally seen as choice for support. The reason is quite simple, you got loads of fields available. A fire field, 2 water fields (combine them with blast finishers for AoE healing), an ice field (can be nice for ice armor or stacking chilled) and a lightning field which with a projectile user can stack quite a bit of vulnerability. You do only have 1 blast finisher, but an auto attack projectile finisher which can be pretty useful. In general staff is seen as better support since your heals have range and create fields. You can cast a Geyser under the boss and any projectile finisher will grant regeneration. (I’ve given up trying to heal people with Geyser directly, constantly moving and them generally ignoring it means it doesn’t heal a lot :P). You also got the most AoEs to clean out annoying packs of mobs and the longest range, which means in general the most time to react and thus you also stay alive longer.
About traits, I’d advise at least Earth 10 and Arcane 10 to get the 2 survival traits (Armor of Earth at 50% hp and Arcane Shield at 25%) if you plan to stay with a lot of fire. If you focus more into water for extra support you can skip the Arcane Shield, but I’d still trait Arcane for the buffs on attunement switching, generally faster attunement switching and some other pretty neat traits. Those cooldowns are lifesavers when you suddenly got stuff turning on you and you can’t react fast enough to pop your own defensive cool downs.
Sorry about the wall of text, but hope it helps a bit :P
Sorry, but the whole point to Guild Wars is being balanced and fair. The balance is still a bit awkward atm (imo) but the fair part is there. The whole skip PvE go straight to PvP with maxed gear is a big selling point of Guild Wars. It’s the same reason why a lot of people play on private servers of other games, they don’t like the gear grind, they just want to jump in and PvP.
Destroy all threats in 3 seconds? In 3 seconds you haven’t even cast a skill lol.
Ring of fire-burning speed -double arcane-earthquake….with a naga you can do that in 3s flat…this or simply I have learned to to cast spells on the fly
No offense but A: That’s pretty low damage and B: Apparently Elementalist can dodge everything and other people don’t dodge anything? The CC is at the end of the combo, when everyone half skilled is long gone. Simply dodge when you see flaming speed coming and everything is wasted.
But oh wait, if you’re an Elementalist you don’t get dodged, I forgot that! No no, it’s only every other class people dodge. Sorry but toss a Warrior in there and if nobody dodges he’ll destroy everything faster than you do with a simple Hundred Blades. But of course EVERYONE dodges Hundred Blades.
See, this is why people have a hard time taking this stuff seriously. When one talks about other classes it’s like, pffft everyone dodges all their skills non stop! When it’s about the Elementalist? Pffft, nobody ever dodges my combo, who needs CC, nobody ever dodges!
Destroy all threats in 3 seconds? In 3 seconds you haven’t even cast a skill lol.
The reason other classes don’t go into a skill rotation is because stuff is dead after their second click.
I always hear about effort and crap, basically what most of the Ele lovers seem to be saying is APM = King. So yeah, I guess together with the Engineer that’s where Elementalists shine, but unfortunately I don’t play a game just to see how fast I can get an RSI.
Most damage in downed state is probably Mesmer, since his phantasms stay up and the phantasm he can summon while downed seriously hurts (Highest hit I’ve seen so far was nearly 7k on a clothie). I’ve downed a couple of glass cannons with a downed Mesmer when they didn’t know how to find my real body.
@Weirwynn
If you got no interest in PvP, why do you go and get involved in a discussion about PvP?
You’re a cloth class. I main a mesmer and the only direct damage utility skill we CAN get is mantra of pain. If you don’t use utility skills for escapes and.. Well, utility, then I don’t know what else they’re for. “Good” doesn’t allow thieves to teleport to you and HS has a pretty short range compared to other leap skills. If you can’t get out of it with mist form or blink then there’s a bug worth reporting. As for “needing” that many. I’d say you at least need one. If that isn’t enough I can go through the list.
Staff -fire -burning retreat
Staff -Water – AOE chill area
Staff -Air -Ring of stun and a blowback
Staff -Earth -Snare and cripple.
Dagger MH -Fire -Burning charge move.
Dagger MH -Water -Another aoe chill
Dagger MH -Air -Aura of Stun
Dagger OH -Water -Chill Aura
Dagger OH -Air -Blowback
Dagger OH -Earth -Knockdown
Focus -Water -Daze
Focus -Air -Knockdown
Focus -Earth -InvincibilityNow Chill and Cripple won’t get you home free on their own but combined with just one cantrip like mist form or blink should put enough distance between you and the thief to cause problems for them.
Perhaps you should play an Elementalist before coming in here then?
Staff -fire -burning retreat -> Nice
Staff -Water – AOE chill area -> Barely any duration, making it pretty useless
Staff -Air -Ring of stun and a blowback -> Blowback misses more often than it hits, stun is only on the border of the ring and due to startup animation easily dodged.
Staff -Earth -Snare and cripple. Snare that just like blowback misses more often than it hits (a small sidestep avoids these already, don’t even need to dodge) and that cripple is a very small line with again start up duration so easy to dodge.
Dagger MH -Fire -Burning charge move. Eh to use this as gap opener you need to turn your back on the thief. Here’s a hint. NEVER TURN YOUR BACK ON A THIEF. Extra dmg when hitting from behind traits will kick you hard. Not to mention I don’t think this would even get you out of HS leap range.
Dagger MH -Water -Another aoe chill -> With very very small range. I’m not sure if I ever chilled someone with that really.
Dagger MH -Air -Aura of Stun -> Nice, to bad it activates after you get hit and therefore still get hurt. Effective against Pistol Whip, not so much against something like HS.
Dagger OH -Water -Chill Aura -> Well it chills when you get hit. Problem is just that a Thief can keep leaping at you and thus doesn’t care that he’s slowed, since he’s already in range anyway.
Dagger OH -Air -Blowback -> With 40s cooldown and rather close range, nice otherwise though.
Dagger OH -Earth -Knockdown -> This is one of the few great CCs we have, no comment on it.
Focus -Water -Daze -> That hangs in the air for an hour and therefore almost never hits.
Focus -Air -Knockdown -> Well it does hit more often than staff blowback.
Focus -Earth -Invincibility -> This one is actually good.
I’m also amused how you failed to mention the one good getaway skill we really got. Ride the Lightning. Deselect your target, turn around (yes in this case you can do this even on a Thief since you get loads of distance) and hit RTL. Then pray you don’t get stuck.
No offense but Elementalists got lowest survivability and toughness and I’ve seen it happen more than once that a glass cannonish Thief just spikes one down with 15k damage. Heck few days ago I saw a screenie in the sPvP forum Thief (glass cannon) vs Necro (with quite a bit of toughness). Went something like this: Steal 5k dmg Backstab 13k, necro dead. You can totally react against a combo that basically oneshots you. Totally.

Since the quote button is gone again.
There has to be a reason to play content again. A mmorpg without longevity dies pretty fast since the playerbase just goes elsewhere. Before you go and tell me that there are no rewards in this game, what about the rare skins for running explorables over and over? You want to tell me that isn’t a grind? You want to tell me the 252k karma needed to get a full set of karma exotics isn’t a grind of doing DEs over and over?
Do you really think someone would do DEs over and over for no reward? You think somebody would bust his gear over and over in a dungeon if he didn’t get something for it in return?
As stated there’s no incentive to do DEs except for the few that reward a chest at the end, since it takes far to long to get the karma for exotics. The interim rewards really aren’t that interesting at high level. Bit of silver and exp you don’t need unless you go for Legendaries, which are an insane grind that’s even worse than the karma exotics. You can keep claiming how it’s fun, but I highly doubt a lot of people find zerging a random champion for ages fun. It’s just stand there, use auto atk and read the forum or something to pass time. Heck some you don’t even have to move from your spot once.
Dungeons are even worse now. Basically you bust your gear for quite high repair costs (if you’re in 80 exotics at least) and gain very little in return. You then have to do like 60+ runs to gain the armor sets. Again, you really think the same dungeon 20 times (considering there are 3 paths usually) stays fun? Without having some goal to aim for? I highly doubt it.
And there comes the problem. All the rewards are incredibly long term. In GW1 you had 15k armor (at least I think it was 15p? Cheapest “elite” skins) but then there were also way “better” prestige armors like for example fissure armor. Here we have Cultural and our order armor (if you can even really count that as prestige armor) as lower prestige and then suddenly a huge jump to karma and an even further jump to dungeon armor. So in a game where you’re supposed to farm cooler looking armor instead of better armor there’s like one interim option and the rest are all pretty hardcore option (putting aside the armor that was obtained by doing dungeon speedruns in a way that wasn’t intented).
There simply is very little content at lvl 80 that’s worth doing more than once. Also please don’t tell me that people are only here because they rushed and crap and it’s their fault, different people simply have different pace. Just because you haven’t arrived at 80 yet doesn’t mean others are and would like to have something they can do. I feel Anet has made a seemingly rather common mistake with focusing on very little endgame (the entire game is endgame! Yerr right) and thus leaving quite a few lv80s scratching their heads about what to do in the game.
Well I have to agree the knocking of ledges is pretty lame, especially when it’s at jumping puzzles cough breached wall cough or that Krait tower thingie with the krait queen which you visit with certain story quests. If they allow mobs knocking us over ledges they really shouldn’t put such mechanisms in places where you can get knocked of and instakilled from fall dmg.
So wait. PvE is all about running dungeons to earn cool looking skins, but if somebody wants to show his cool looking skins he earned in PvP he gets shot down? Sense!
I don’t see why people wouldn’t be allowed to use their PvP gear as SKIN in PvE. After all they worked for it, just like people worked for their PvE skin. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to get cool looking gear just to be able to show it in a minor part of the game.
About the exp part. No. There’s a reason you get a max char when you enter sPvP. Simply keep it the way it is now. If you want kind of PvP and lvl at the same time, go to WvW.
I always show bad attiude when they can’t respect common knowledge to speak English in a public chat.
I mean they can’t be that stupid to realise that other people doesn’t understand what they say.
Here you got your answer.
Some peole are simply ignorant and will hate on people for whatever reason they can find. It’s always amusing when you see someone recruit for a one nationality guild in their own language and immediately see a bunch of people go “zomg enlgihs pelase!” because they didn’t understand. Well guess what, it was never meant for you!
What Blood said combined with what milo said on the previous page. The selecting people with right click has to go. Why the kitten does left AND right click select a target to begin with? Makes no sense, especially considering right click has other uses.
Note, Mesmer 2 doesn’t always interrupts stomps, sometimes you port so close to your original location that the first stomp still gets you. It’s why I always finish my stomps on Mesmers, I got em that way quite often and was killed because of that quite often as well (and no it’s not because they forgot to use the ability).
On to the topic at hand, Ele down state is indeed pretty horrible. I also disagree about outlasting somebody, since the double down happens so rarely I don’t need an ability that’s specific for that situation. Oh and beat all other classes? Warrior can rally and just stomp you, Mesmer phantasm hits prettykittenhard and he can port out of your LoS (while his phantasms can still get you) and heal up, Rangers can let their pets heal them and Thieves can port out of your LoS as well and heal up at the same rate you can heal. Mist Form at the same time also has the disadvantage it counts as a new down, thus adding to the counter and your HP getting reset isn’t that great when somebody is ressing you. An AoE pushback like Guardian/Engi is far more useful to interrupt people while you’re getting ressed.
I disagree about making Mist Form your standard 2, due to resetting the down state. I’d think a knockdown or a pushback would be far more fitting.
No, the standard PvP set you get in the mist starts with the Rune of “your class”. For some reason it shows these runes even when you’re not using that set. I got the same vice versa when I’m using runes in PvP I also got on my PvE armor.
Yeah, this is pretty annoying since you don’t get a message and a Thief can stealth and just sneak past the mobs at the lord, burst it down in seconds and you got a dead lord without ever being able to react.
Whether bypassing the gate is intented I don’t know, but I doubt a Thief should be able to basically solo something that important on the map without your team ever realising what happened, so at least some warning when the enemy is in your base would be nice. If they can tell us someone is smacking our gate they should also be able to tell us that an enemy is inside the base.
I agree on Moa being out of place. I’d prefer it to be completely removed and give Mesmer a new elite (the perfect clone sounds nice). There’s simply no place for a 10 second complete shutdown in a fastpaced game like this.
It has nothing to do with Moa being OP or not, it simply isn’t a skill that should exist in PvP. It’s a PvE skill, not a PvP skill.
Another solution to battle unfair behaviour that wouldn’t do anything to stop said behaviour. We already got craploads of spamming goldsellers, you really think they’d need to use trial accounts?
I’ve been getting spammed by the same dude (Keeps sending me mails) for the last few days. How about instead of not implementing trial accounts Anet gets a bit more on top of banning goldsellers that have been reported hundreds of times?
The problem is the moneysinks are in the wrong places. I get repairs, I have a really hard time understanding WP one (at least how high it is at 80) and the costs on changing traits are just stupid.
We already have a massive money sink in the TP (15%+) so why should there be a rather minor sink on changing traits? I highly doubt it removes a lot of money from the game, especially since at the moment you aren’t gonna respec for minor stuff, and it’s just hurting the whole “play the game how you want to” part Anet was so big on.
How am I describing a perfect situation?
I was fighting a Warrior that couldn’t even be bothered to dodge, had so high toughness that my Churning Earth hit him for 2k (which is our skill with the highest instant damage) and still has enough power to hit me for 8.5k with a single skill. And well he had a condition removal with him. Most people do, there’s nothing perfect situation about that, it was a simple 1vs1 which tend to happen. I was a bit unlucky with my crits, but I shouldn’t have to pray for getting lucky with my crits to beat a Warrior 1vs1 when all he’s doing is faceplanting his keyboard.
But I guess it’s fine if an Elementalist just has to run for it everytime he sees an enemy and there isn’t an ally with him so they can outnumber the enemy. Good to know. What was I thinking expecting to 1vs1 in a game were every class was supposed to be able to do what they wanted and not what the game told them they could. Silly me.
PS: Kyros, thanks for proving my point. The only downstate in the game that is completely reliant on his allies to avoid the first stomp is perfectly fine. Sure it is.
PPS: Wotan, you’re still at it. I’m right because I say so and you’re wrong because I say so. Way to go. Also I am reading what the others are saying and I’m having a very hard time taking anyone seriously that considers the Elementalist downed state as one of the strongest there is. Oh and where am I hating on the OP?
Edit:
LOL @ one pic of Ele having most points in a match proving Elementalists are great.
Pfffft, you totally should’ve dodged that invisible sin. L2P nub!
sarcasm off
No you won’t.
There is no doing well when your biggest nuke (Churning Earth) hits a Warrior for 2k, the Warrior can remove all the bleed and other conditions you put on him with one click and Eviscerate yourkitten for 8.5k.
No offense, but saying the Elementalist is strong is the same as saying our down state is fine. Oh wait, for a lot of you our down state is fine. Nuff said.
Also, you realise you’re doing exactly what you’re accusing the other side of? But hey, if we say Elementalist isn’t up to the challenge we’re nubs and need to L2P, when you say the Elementalist is strong you’re a guru on the subject. Yeah, totally legit.
PS: Now watch people say I need to get more power and I’ll do dmg with Churning Earth and need to be less glass cannonish and I won’t get hit for 8.5k. And be expected to somehow manage doing both at the same time.
Wait, Elementalists are balanced in 5vs5 but suck in WvW? What have you been smoking?
WvW is about the only thing they are actually good at due to their AoEs.
Am I the only one that is really puzzled how his opponents made it into the third round? I guess once a lifetime you get so lucky that you fight teams with 3 DCs first AND second round.
Also, your aim seems to be off a lot. Your Drake Breath and Cone of Cold seem to miss a lot and you quite often needlessly use your Flaming Speed and completely miss it (the small fire trail barely does damage) and in general your positioning seems off. You fall off the platform at the Clocktower far to often.
The rest, meh. You just gang up on people or run away, it’s pretty hard to judge what you’re doing wrong/right when you simply use superior numbers to win the rare fights you engage in.
Oh yes, please nerf Eles. Means I can delete mine and only have to buy 2 char slots if I want to play ALL the classes, if you get what I mean.
Arcane shield? You’re kidding right?
Since arcane shield only lasts 3 hits it’s by far the least effective method against spammables. Arcane Shield is good against heavy individual hits, not a skill that hits you 10 times in 2 seconds.
Because: Elementalist is the most balanced class. Imo all other classes should be balanced to the Elementalists powerlevel. Stronger can result in boring results, weaker as well.
Buffing the Elementalist would only shorten fights instead of making them more interesting.
That is a good question.
Frankly, I wonder if it is even possible to balance the elementalist vs everyone else because our playstyle is extremely different. Our F1-4 buttons are about as important as 1-5 and you can’t really say that for any other profession. We may be stuck with being the niche of difficult to play and very difficult to master.
Engineers and their kits have a playstyle that’s very much like ours. They get a new skill bar if they use a kit, they can switch through their kits instantly though, their f1-4 changes depending on which healing/utility skills they use and they can’t weapon swap.
Edit:
Don’t forget the Mesmer Elite that gives the entire group quickness lol. :P
The Mesmer one is only 1 second though and requires precise timing from the entire group. I don’t think there’s a lot wrong with a coordinated spike bursting down someone.
Better mention Ranger and Engineer though since they both have single (well ranger himself + pet) target quickness. Their burst isn’t as strong as pistol whip/hundred blades though. (although I still think quickness is a pretty silly thing to allow in PvP, but that’s a different matter)
(edited by Freakiie.8940)
That depends on Anets view. If they want fast bursty fights then buff the Elementalist, otherwise nerf 7? classes? That’s not gonna happen quickly either I suppose. Also their view is kinda messed up, since they first nerf Eles for being to bursty, yet give Thieves/Warriors quickness which allows them to do 20k+ damage in a few seconds. If that isn’t incredibly bursty I don’t know what is. :P
I felt bad for you guys til I made an ELE and facerolled sPvP.

Haha, the way you try to stand in every AoE possible and actually succeed at that in the beginning is pretty epic. Tell us more about how you rock please.
You can do perfectly fine in dungeons wearing magic find.
If you’re getting squashed wearing magic find, you’ll get squashed wearing any other gear, because you’re standing in the bad that’s squashing you either way.
It’s this mentality that is the problem.
It’s the player, not the gear.
You should probably realize that.
But the player that equips magic find is selfish and is not out to provide the maximum benefit to the group.
Agreed, people using magic find are leeching non-users for their own benefit.
I’m not sure where this mindset is coming from.
There’s still power and precision on the gear. You’re still providing benefit to the group.
You’re missing out on… what, maybe 10% combat effectiveness? If that?
Gear doesn’t matter much in this game. Player skill matters.
Even if you were wearing vit/tough/power gear, if you stand in the bad(like you’re saying they do) then you’re -going- to die. MF gear or not.
I would think this should be a consumable like Dead suggested. It just makes more sense. If people want to spend a little extra for a bonus magic find, eat a consumable. It just makes more sense than to have people equiping magic find. If the whole group did it, there is a good amount of lost benefit overall.
Bottom line is… if that difference is non-existent then why have equipment upgrades at all?
ZOMGZOZRZ Y U MF CONSUABLE ISNTEAD OF BESTEST CONSUMBLE?!1?1!?1?1/!?111
Yes, that will happen. If you don’t want people to “ruin” your dungeon experiences don’t go with randoms. Simple as that.
I can also confirm it with the mob drops on the cannon part of the Lyssa event. Did it a few days ago, saw today that the event was up while I was farming mats for my daily achievement, went there and got almost no drops throughout the whole fixing the cannon part.
Went to next event, just tossed a few meteor showers into the mess before the event was done and already had more drops than at the cannon event.
Not to mention I haven’t gotten drops from Sparks in ages, because I killed them for a longer while after I got lucky with getting 2 lodestones in like 10 minutes and thought I might be able to get more.
That’s a lot of generalizations on things that you can’t possibly know.
now, it’s actually quite easy to figure out when you claim you haven’t encountered the DR system yet.
I said it hasn’t affected me, that’s not the same as I have not encountered it. The difference is that I just don’t care all that much. I make my gold by other means and fill my time with activities that don’t involve farming for inordinate amounts of time. Leveling alts, hopping between dragon spawns, playing the trading post etc.
Most of the complainers seem to have a really hard time grasping this. I’ve played the living hell out of this (330hrs +) and I don’t have a problem with the system because I don’t behave like a goshdurn (yeah, kitten that ANet) bot. I move around naturally. I coast from area to area. I don’t set down roots somewhere and farm until my eyes bleed because I want to be one of the first kids on the block to have a legendary — ostensibly, so I can sit on my backside in Divinity’s Reach and show of my greatness. I follow events around. I follow NPCs around. I follow butterflies around. I make my gold, I collect my mats and I patiently wait until I have enough for my rainbow unicorn faerie bow. And I have fun doing it.
To the the outcry that people can’t farm like they are sitting on an assembly line, I say tough luck. There are plenty of games out there designed to support your grind fetish. GW2 never claimed to be grind friendly. And people are now shocked that it isn’t. Yeah, whatever…

Ah, so doing an event ONCE is acting like a bot?
Because I’m locked out of MOB drops at the cannon area for the Lyssa event, because apparently I killed to many mobs there when I did the event a few days ago. I’m locked out of drops because it can take a while before the darn npcs fix the cannon. No I’m quite sure the anti drop code is working perfectly!
You didn’t lose anything. The problem with tournament chests not working was WELL KNOWN (so well known that I who hadn’t set foot in the Mists yet at that time even knew about it), but you still kept doing tournaments.
It was YOUR decision to keep doing content that you should’ve known wasn’t working properly. This is like complaining that you did a dungeon 10 times, a week later the rewards get improved and you wanting the new reward for the 10 runs you did last week.
@ Freakiie
Do you understand how the drop system in this game works? If not I would advise you to read the gw2 wiki page on it because it seemed to me that it was just a case of you not putting out enough damage on some of the kills during the first event due to the damage output of others.
You must also understand that there is some randomness in drops.
i have over 100% MF as well and i have gone a couple events without getting any yellows, then all of the sudden i get 2 rares in one wave.
One must account for randomness as well.
Didn’t get any yellows? Lol. I got NOTHING. Just some of those trophy bones that sell for like 16c.
And yes I do know how the loot system works. Also I’m an Ele and was using my staff, I tagged more than enough monsters, but simply didn’t get any drops. You know what’s even better? Last time I was there, there were like twice the people. Yet with twice the people I get a drop from every second mob, with half the people I can count the amount of drops I got on one hand.
But yeah, typical. It’s not something wrong with the game, but you need to L2P!!! Why does that seem to be the response to everything…
The antifarming code in this game is just retarted. Seriously retarted.
Once you trigger it on certain mobs, you won’t get drops for DAYS. I did Lyssa event today (the one with the 3 events around the temple). I did it a few days ago as well and spent quite some time at the cannon since that can take ages with the NPCs not feeling like repairing the cannon.
So I was at the cannon today again and I got like 3 drops throughout the ENTIRE event. Wtf?! No it was not bad luck. I got 100%+ MF and when we finally finished and I went on to the next event (which I hadn’t done the last time) mobs were dropping like crazy again.
Seriously, I’m not allowed to farm the same group of mobs more than once every few days? Wtf kinda bullcrap is that?!
