The Charr would try, but they’d just get the Asura angry.

Ask Tequatl how that went for them. And Zhaitan. And Mordremoth.

In fact, just don’t get in the way of the Asura.

Frosty and Frosty Law Firm.4981

So…

I feel like we’ve lost our way, in a manner of speaking. I deeply enjoyed killing Mordremoth and Zhaitan, the former more than the latter, because there were vast improvements from the dev team for it. It was more personal.

I’ve come back after a long hiatus to find that one of the Human Gods is back, Balthazar. I don’t know him and won’t pretend to understand his motivations, but as I see the end, I’ve been lead to believe that we just dealt with Primordus and Jormag— two of the most interesting Elder Dragons— without killing them.

That means there isn’t an emotionally charged, pitched battle filled with innovative, new zones and cool bosses to fight in, with a finale against the Elder Dragons themselves played in a way that uniquely suits their environment and the story.

The fight with Mordremoth, as a Sylvari, was amazing. But now we’re at the point where, due to some Asuran techno-babble, we’re just not going to fight and kill the Elder Dragons?

Why not? Don’t give me the story reasoning. I heard that already, I just mean, from a thematic standpoint, isn’t slaying Elder Dragons, mountain-sized(or in Mordremoth’s case, region-sized) enemies by working together part of what makes Guild Wars 2 Guild Wars 2? Facing impossible enemies and defeating them was part of the charm of the game. Cornering these forces of nature in their own, hideously corrupted biomes and ending them was what I’ve always looked forward to. That feeling of beating Mordremoth just by the skin of your teeth was awesome.

Is this really the direction the story is going? I have to say, I was really looking forward to confronting Jormag in particular, but now he’s out of the picture.

Tribulation mode is not hard.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Frosty and Frosty Law Firm.4981

It’s “hard”.

When I went in I expected an actually difficult experience that would test my performance and skills. Instead what I have discovered is a long trail of “no, ur ded :P” traps that instantly kill you hidden in the ground across the place.

It’s not an obstacle course that tests skill. It’s just an exercise in tedium.

Please change the text on the Tribulation Mode Cloud, so that others won’t be mislead into seeking a difficult experience and finding a boring one.

An example might be, “Click here to embark upon a three hour journey of tedium and general misery that will test your blood pressure to its limits”. That would be much more fitting, because talent isn’t mentioned.

Thanks, Anet.

Black Lion Trading Post: Where are the capes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Frosty and Frosty Law Firm.4981

Frosty and Frosty Law Firm.4981

ArenaNet, I’m making this post primarily to highlight the fact that you’re missing a nice, fat wad of cash. See, everybody who plays Guild Wars 2 is a stylin’ baller and just has to sport the latest fashions, be it wings, a hood that the intrepid Grenth once wore to Prom night, Balthazar’s Berserk cosplay set…

Basically, people really like the cosmetics available in your cash shop.

I suggest adding capes as back items. You’re probably wondering why.

See, every hero with something to hide(Oooohhhh~) and something to prove has probably donned that draping garb we call the cape. It’s adventurous, it’s mysterious, it has a hint of danger. Best of all, you’d be able to dye it, which would mean that everybody would want one, because who doesn’t want to staple a rug to the back of their shirt? Think of how fabulous you’ll look with a big strip of cloth on your back as you do battle across Tyria.

Seeing why you should add these to the Black Lion Trading Post? I hope so.

It’d make you money and make me look great. A win-win, if I do say so myself.

Yes.

Honestly, this is kind of a confusing oversight to me. Anet put in a fat frog tonic, but not a little frog tonic.

Allow me to admit why I want this so badly.

I am a roleplayer. Tonics can make things fun. I wanted to roleplay an Itzel because my friend was going to roleplay a nuhoch. She can actually do her nuhoch, but my itzel can’t happen because Anet doesn’t do consistency.

We were going to have a bounce bros attack strategy and everything.

sigh. What could’ve been.

Anyway, Anet, please consider adding this in. Assuming you ever get this message, which I sincerely hope you do. I know it’s a small thing and you have bigger fish to fry, but if you fry this fish eventually, it’d be great.

Morning,

I have just seen that a load of the elite specialisations are having more changes made to them for BW3, this is great!

But… I am concerned about the ranger. I love my ranger and I am really looking forward to Druid. But Rangers have not had much love in the game and I am really worried that it’s going going to have enough time to be tested and improved upon as its being revealed last and will only have 1 BW test. I am worried it’s going to be released with HoT a bit unfinished.

Thoughts?

These are Rangers we’re talking about, friend.

Can't purchase off the Gem Store?

For some reason I can’t seem to purchase stuff off the gem store!

Yes, yes, you’re about to tell me to use my actual wifi, aren’t you? I’m a Wizard, I know things. Well, here’s the thing… I’m a College student. I have a campus network packet filter that makes it otherwise impossible for me to even play guild wars…

Now, I’m not going to bore you with those details, I’m gonna cut to the chase. I want to support Anet. I love this stuff. This game is cool. I wanna buy stuff off the gem store and walk into the club like “What up, I got a big croc”. I want people to look at me and go “Wow, that guy spends real money on this game… Okay.”

I, uh, can’t.

See, I’ve tried multiple credit cards but none of them work. Probably because the game doesn’t really trust the VPN or… Something. I’ve used like, three cards. One of them is a family member’s. I get an “error” right after I hit “confirm” for my purchase 100% of the time. My heart. It is shattering.

Is this happening to anyone else? If you’re familiar, what do you think I should do? I really do want to buy stuff, I just can’t and I don’t want to gold transfer as that would leave me with roughly five silver.

Packet filtering disallows Guild Wars 2.

Frosty and Frosty Law Firm.4981

…Unintentionally.

Due to the packet filtering system at my college, torrents on the campus are down to pretty much zero. Unfortunately for me, Guild Wars 2 apparently has a P2P connection system for its game servers and no alternatives. The packet filter doesn’t discriminate. It drops GW2 despite having all the ports forwarded. The only alternative is just to drop the filter and then there might be serious legal concerns as every freshman downloads(and uploads) tetrabytes of torrent content. I have no other way to connect, so I’m basically being told “sorry, you can’t play”.

My internet connection is fine. I can play almost every game(WoW, Wildstar, other MMOs and whatnot) at top speeds but those aren’t my concern. I can’t get past the loading screen at the moment thanks to the packet filtering.

So here I am.

I need help with this. Is there any way I can get past a campus packet filter?

You know what Lion’s Arch needs? A Colossus. That’s what the people of Rhodes did when their enemies left tons of bronze lying around, they built a big honking statue. LA should melt down all those drill bits and make a gigantic statue of something, maybe a lion. Big enough you can climb inside and see out the eyes. Maybe it even bridges the harbor.

I mean, why not just get a Searing Cauldron (we found one in Orr, and there’s one in Ascalon as a commune point, I think) or build a huge Megalaser to just take out the tower with minimal risk? With any luck, we could take out that invasive weed too while we’re at it.

Just so we’re all clear, you all know fractals take place in the past, right? But back to topic; it seems far more likely that the dragons are why the gods are absent, and this having 6 eyes being pure coincidence. I really hope it is at least, scarlet borrowing credibility from abaddon would just bring down abaddon, not make scarlet more interesting or anything like that.

Fractals are multi-dimensional. They can be past, present, future, non-existant or a consequence of actions you may take. You could theoretically have a fractal of saving yourself from a wipe as you do a fractal. Or one where you kill a dragon-corrupted version of yourself.

Hey Asura! (A Charr Thread of Insults)

in Asura

Posted by: Frosty and Frosty Law Firm.4981

Frosty and Frosty Law Firm.4981

As a Sylvari I must side with the Charr

You are a perfect example why we can’t trust the walking celery with anything in our society. You and that “Scarlet” character, though I suspect that much of her exploits are fabricated.

A). Listen well, bookah. The sludge itself is animate outside of the Black Citadel. The elementals of the area have become so tainted and perverted by Charr pollution that they have gained sapience and wander about slaughtering civilians and animals, absorbing their bodies into the crude muck. The Ooze of Metrica is animate, but it is pure, disconnected and beautiful. It is a monument to the grace of the Eternal Alchemy and is often used as art in of itself, sculpted into different forms using technology you would never be able to fathom. Living in the Black Citadel is quite literally dangerous to your health, and it has nothing to do with the local barbarians. The air is clogged and choked with pollution spewed from metalworks and factories— The only reason we don’t see an exponentially greater amount of Charr lung cancer patients is because eighty percent of the Charr will die in combat before they reach their thirtieth year of existence, only the cowards and bureaucrats continuing their society’s exploitation of the natural world living any further.

B), We have no intention to destroy our lands and, if you would take a short walk through Metrica, you would find that we have not. Metrica is largely untamed and untouched by Asura development, while the brutish Charr have all but butchered and gutted their lands for ore and oil in pursuit of their endless conquests. Charr lands are scarred with strip mines, craters and charred fields that once could’ve supported life, but now feed only the vermin and vultures. Between the pollution in the air, water and soil, life has to be hardy just to survive in Charr land.

It is also unsurprising for one of your intellect, but you mistake the agenda of the Inquest for the agenda of the Asura.

C), Their junk yards comprise any and all metal the Charr aren’t using, put there to rust or find reuse. It sounds wonderful on paper, the recycling does. But it is recycled far less than you would think. It ended up in a junk yard for a reason, you know. The contents are generally scrap deemed unfit for war machines, this coming from the Charr, who use the trashiest of materials to make combat-ready gear. Metal unfit for war machines of the Charr is next to unusable in general.

Only the lowliest of gladium can be found rummaging through a junk yard or managing it. The oils and other biproducts of these discarded supplies often sink through the floor plates, into the ground and right into the already horribly corrupted water table. Why do you think the Charr are so fond of their whiskey? Because whiskey is better than water in that underdeveloped part of the world. Drinking from a pond in Ascalon is just as likely to hurt you as drinking a bottle of motor oil.

D) Ugh. Your stupidity just went from ‘cute’ to ‘infuriatingly insolent’. You’ve never and, thank the Alchemy, will never participate in our experiments. You’d just mess something up if you tried, so don’t try to talk about it as though you know anything about the subject.

If you’re trying to reference Thaumanova, you’re blaming the wrong entity. That was the Inquest. They built a Dragon-powered reactor and then it went critical. Blaming us for their overwhelming incompetence is like blaming you for the overflowing sadism of the Nightmare Court.

I know the C.L.E.A.N Krewe personally. I almost worked with them, in fact. You see, another flaw in your argument is that it is completely uninformed. That krewe has little to gain from cleaning up the Inquest’s messes, but here it is trying to perform the exact duties you falsely claim we shirk.

E), Again, that’s the Inquest you’re thinking of. I’d rather get test subjects through legal means, it leaves fewer questions unanswered and keeps my reputation as an esteemed genius polished. If I start to look too bad, the committee might consider me for Arcane Council, which would be absolutely terrible. I’d have no time at all to get anything done, my title as a lab genius would become a shallow formality.

In short, you’ve obviously never set foot in the Fields of Ruin or the Plains of Ashford. You’ve never choked on the smog of the Charr around and within the Black Citadel, and you’ve never seen the wonders our research has wrought. You have every opportunity to know and see these things for yourself, but you don’t.

Want to know why? I can tell you right now based upon my observations of your brothers and sisters of inferiority.

You are Sylvari. You are flora, of infinitely minute intellect. We, the Asura, are fauna of the highest quality, the very quintessence of the Eternal Alchemy. We personify genius, a shining star that you may admire from a distance, but never touch.

[Merged]1year post launch. How Anet feel on Trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Frosty and Frosty Law Firm.4981

Frosty and Frosty Law Firm.4981

What does trinity mean? I keep hearing about this but have no clue what it means.

Healer/Tank/DPS

Healers heal everybody, tanks keep all the enemy’s aggro, DPS just kills the enemies.

That’s the trinity.

In other words, Bilbert the tank doesn’t respond to any questions about why he is wearing leather gear as a plate class and why most of it is caster stats. The healer, S3xbelflol134 cusses out the DPS for not ‘attacking what the tank attacks’, even after Bilbert specifically states that they should kill the adds in the fight. The DPS, Donovan and Jack are new to the game and are immediately kicked for defending themselves from S3xbelflol134’s cussing, being labelled as “f____ts”. Jen, the other DPS, says nothing the entire dungeon, simply spamming her autoattack. While managing to do less damage than the healer, S3xbelflol134 uses her as a reference tool to further his argument as to why Donovan and Jack are so terrible. Eventually Bilbert says he needs to get a drink and afks for six hours. S3xbelflol134 leaves shortly after kicking Donovan and Jack. Two new DPS are shuffled in instantly, both having claimed to have waited over an hour for their queue. These two DPS are John and Ticktok34. They are experienced, but arrive too late to save Jen as she aggroes the final boss and is summarily killed. The two of them kill the boss and rev Jen without the assistance of a healer. Bilbert comes back and needs on everything, including the caster gear. He wins almost everything, and what he doesn’t win is healer gear. Everyone but Bilbert walks away sorely disappointed.

That’s the holy trinity in my experience. I am John. My best friend is Ticktok34. These are neither our actual account names, nor are they our real names. They are merely tools of witness protection as S3xbelflol134 has given us several death threats when we whispered to ask why he left, as Jen’s only word in the dungeon mentioned ‘heler’ and a long string of expletives regarding the name.

Portable door! Player housing.

Here’s an idea to implement player housing. Players carry a portable magical door, which they can place on any wall in a town or outpost, to claim it as their own. Even houses that have no interior (since a lot of houses in towns are just decoration) can be claimed, but you can only use the door once. You can place your magical door on top of an existing door, or simply place it in an alley as some sort of secret access to your house.

Once the door is placed, it will forever be the entrance to your private home.

Multiple players can claim the same spot as their house, if they want. They can place their door anywhere they like, as long as it is in one of the existing cities. Touching this door takes them to their very own private house, which would be a separate instance.

Players that are in your party are allowed to join you in your home as you enter it, much like joining a story instance or a dungeon.

Each player receives one such portable door for free. And it can only be used once. Players can buy a new portable door from the Gem store if they change their mind.

This is the best idea regarding housing I’ve seen in awhile. It completely solves the debate of wanting to have a permanent home in the world/having it instanced, because in this way you can slap down a house anywhere you want and it’s ‘there’. It’s in the world. I can live in that impossible-to-enter house over there and it’d make sense.

I’d like to make a modification or two, if I may, to the idea. You can only see the doors of guildmates//friends’ listed people. That way immersion isn’t broken by walking around seeing literally every wall in Divinity’s Reach cloaked in hundreds of doors. Different styles could be purchased from the gem store, such as racial-themed doors and yet more furnishings for your home.

So much potential.

…But you see, the problem is that these ideas, no matter how good they are, are destined to be ignored. Anet doesn’t read this forum in the same way they don’t read Engineer forums(Or if they do, they don’t take anything seriously). I’ve yet to see anything to make me think otherwise.

Cool, we now have triple the RNG!

Just what we were asking for, Anet! You’ve listened so very well since launch!

What the hemlock is this? This can’t be right! Lies, slander, deceit and heresy! We’re Rangers! We’re of the underdog trinity, we’re not supposed to get buffs! We’re supposed to have maybe two paths to walk in the world and neither are supposed to be fun!

…It may not be a perfect buff, but I’m… Strangely satisfied with this.

That’s… Never happened before.

I need to sit down.

Dungeon + Jumping Puzzle + Zerg

in Tower of Nightmares

Frosty and Frosty Law Firm.4981

The Arena Net devs said “Kitten it! We’ll make one more update with the craziest ideas we can think of. If the players don’t love it we’ll make an expansion.”

And that’s why the Tower of Nightmares is…

  • Dynamic events that must be completed to even enter.
  • Multiple Jumping Puzzles on your way to the top.
  • Two Dungeons along the way.
  • An epic Zerg Boss Battle at the top (think Orr rather than Teq)
  • A portal opens to a brand new Zone where ascended armor drops.
  • No WP’s. At all.
  • Meta achievement resets daily and has scaling rewards.

Basically, they said “Let’s just take the hardest version of every type of content and mash it all together.”

EDIT: This post is in the spirit of fun. It’s not based on fact.

You(the players) asked for hard content.

Now you’re going to play it. Deal with it.

…Assuming it’s actually hard…

The puzzle parts might be ingenious, but… The zerg will probably descend upon any and all ‘hard’ content and tear it apart before anyone gets to actually enjoy the mechanics… Kinda like how The Shatterer fight goes…

That’s what zergs do, after all…

Um… I’m not so sure about this any more…

Edit: Oh, I misunderstood your post.

This sounds nice on paper. But the zergs, man. THE ZERGS.

maybe not so much during the dragons awakening, because their power has to be getting sucked dry by the dragons absorbing all of it.
(P.S. arenanet, doesnt that mean that the players powers are being sucked dry too? wouldn’t at some point, the absorbtion of magic by the dragons start taking the magic of the races as well?)
maybe if they were to come about after the last of the dragons defeat or something. Like this whole scarlet thing. I highly think she is in some way connected to the dragons because for her to be doing all of this random stuff with no mention of the dragon threat that is currently underway on the whole area, then thats just some major plot holiness which is a major reason why a lot of people dislike the living story in the first place, is because so much of it feels disconnected to the dragons, to the main reason why we are even here.
Think of it like a mass disaster, during the terrorist attack on the mall in kenya(?) or during the terrorist attack in the US in 2001, the main bad things, and threats to them were the terrorists (dragons). That was a main focus and the main event that happened that kind of caused all time else-where to stop for those people dealing with the dangers and threat of them. It would have been very unlikely, and extremely unbelievable if during either attacks, there was suddenly a second threat, that was totally un-related or influenced by eachother. Imagine godzilla attacking during the 9/11 attacks, or something along those lines. Its just a really rare event where two extremely bad things happen together around the same time without having influenced each other which makes it unbelievable. That’s what the living story kinda of is right now, is unbelievable, especially in this world where we are told from level 1 that our main threat is the dragons, and that Zhaitan is the biggest of threats (granted hes dead now ‘supposedly’).
If Anet is to fix this issue, they would link scarlet to the dragons, the easiest one being mordremoth, which they have ample opportunity to do, and will have more opportunity to do with the time to come. It all really rests on the shoulders of the writers, and what really depends on how easy it’ll be for them for that to happen is if they planned for it to be dragons all along in the end or if scarlet was a total random event in tyrian history.
Now, a lot of people are mad about scarlet and the living story because of how unrelated they seem to the core game, so i think even if they hadn’t planned for scarlet to be linked to dragons, that she will most likely be linked to dragons now anyway.
I have a theory that she is to be linked to dragons all along, and that Anet was just doing their typical story telling where they give you one baddie after the other and in the end it turns out the thing that connected them all together was an even worse baddie. That’s how the story for prophecies went. To be honest, the story for prophecies in GW1 was so confusing to me in game, i had no clue what was going on and never did even after beating the campaign until i watched a wooden potatoes video detailing the whole plot. Thats when it clicked finally and i rally understood how great of a story it was. I think that scarlets story was meant to be just like prophecies in that way, where we just have noclue why she is doing this, why this is all happenning now, and then at the end, boom its a new dragon, or a resurrected/neverdead/undead*cough*revamped*cough* Zhaitan that was influancing her. I think the reason why its gotten so confusing now is because a lot of the planning for when certain info was to be released got into disarray because the community just wasn’t seeing it, or they just wanted the answers now, or they were expecting just a little side story with each update and not some very long and layered story-telling, which all the anger is probably a combination of the three and more.

But anyway, that’s why i think dragons are influencing scarlet. :P

Holy enter key, batman.

Amazing, Batman! Absolutely mind-boggling.

Krait and Nightmare Court

in Lore

On a side note, by a complete accident I made a krait attack a nightmare courtier (or vice versa, can’t be sure), and they then proceeded to try and bash each other’s head in for a moment before I wasted them.
Don’t think there is a lore significance behind it, but perhaps such mechanic (if it was indeed a mechanic) is the marker of tensions between two groups?

Hell it would be fun if we enter the tower and see krait an NC joyfully going at slaughtering each other, right?

They still hate each other.

This sect of the Basketball Court is probably under Scarlet’s thumb. Most of them still hate the krait and are willing to attack them.
