Frosty and Frosty Law Firm.4981

Mounts have never been correctly implemented in any MMO before and would be incorrectly implemented in GW2. And by the way, there’s already a thread for this somewhere in suggestions.

My points. Agree with them or don’t, let’s avoid ad-hominem arguments.

-Pointless waste of developer time while there are much larger issues around. Wouldn’t you want your devs to be fixing dynamic events and pvp exploits rather than making vanity speed increases?

-Will ‘shrink’ the world. Not literally, but scale and detail will be sacrificed for space. Without scale and detail, GW2 loses it’s epic identity.

-There are no horses, so everyone is going to be riding mounts that wouldn’t make much sense. The only truly domestic animals for riding I’ve seen are dolyaks(In the form of carts), and golems, because they can hold you in one of their massive hands and carry you around. To be frank, I think I could outrun both without swiftness.

-Waypoints can teleport you across ALL OF TYRIA in exchange for pocket change. If you can’t afford it, you really, really need to learn to manage money better.

I know I had a few others in the other thread, but I can’t remember them off the top of my head.

I’ve beaten in 1v1(Please note, I suck. I generally play the ‘lone defender’ of a resource area or the Trebuchet controller in Kyhlo. If I have to play offensive, I’m so-so at it because I don’t have twenty plans in case someone jumps me.)

-Thief
-Warrior
-Guardian (I am going to strangle you with your own frilly self-heals!)
-Other ranger
-Mesmer(It’s like playing where’s waldo, except YOU DIE.)
-Elementalist
-Necromancer, but not often due to chance alone. I don’t have many necromancers step up to the plate and try to fight me. Every time I fight one, I have to stop and admire their Lich form. You could grind meat on those abs…
-Engineer (You done incurred my wrath)

This isn’t about ego, it’s to point out to the OP that if I can do it, and as I said before I’m terrible, so can he. It just requires a bit of finesse and knowledge of what you’re doing, who you’re fighting and the weapons your foe is using.

I find vistas a challenging and fun part of the game. They require a bit of effort to get and reward you with scenic views of the developers’ hard work. Most of the time they aren’t -that- hard to get to, the only one I’ve ever found truly taxing was the one in Morlog, Dredgehaunt.

Because I’m terrible at jumping puzzles. I flung myself off the scaffolding twice and accidentally dodged off once instead of jumping.

Frosty and Frosty Law Firm.4981

A D-Class Golem is supposed to be hard to kill, tank for you and overall keep you intact.

It dies so, so quickly and rarely uses it’s deflector shield. When it does, it lasts only a handful of seconds, and the deflector shield is only programmed to be used randomly, never when I really need it or on-command.

I could shrug at the ‘dies quickly’ part. I’m a ranger, I’ve got a pet to help him out and if he dies he served his purpose. I just want either more control or better programming/reaction timing on that bubble shield.

I’ve been told that the S-Class isn’t so bad, though. Lots of damage, supposedly.

I agree, the lab is certainly missing things. Zojja has her own lab with her own inventions present and being worked on, but both seem to miss both a personal and evolving touch.

-Zojja’s fame is going to grow upon Zhaitan being defeated, if thats even possible. Her lab would probably rival a tiny adventure instance in size and have multiple floors, it would probably be currently under construction in some areas, and she might actually be present with dialogue for heroes that show up.

-Savant’s lab has a nice view, but it needs a ‘home’ feel. You should have an area to yourself, possibly a personal residential area where you can display achievements. You should be able to talk with your krewe, and their dialogue will cycle to something else every time you enter the instance to accomodate changing moods and experimental results, possibly just how they feel or little backstories with them going on.

Gah, I digress.

waypoints are boring, mounts are more than a way of travel

[/quote]

Mounts are a waste of developer time that should be spent on actually necessary additions and fixing critical problems with the game. Horses aren’t even around and the closest thing I’ve seen to a ‘mount’ would be how the Asura occasionally have their golems carry them around, and only in the concept art of Zojja and her golem.

Another problem would be how mounts will literally shrink the world. Well, not literally, but devs will have to work harder and harder to create bigger zones, sacrificing the detail that makes Guild Wars 2 the epic game that it is for space/grind time, as WoW did. Previously massive, epic zones will become quick “Press your Autorun and Steer” activities and will drag aggroed mobs across entire zones. It’ll also make exploration, a rewarding and previously fairly challenging activity boring and bland.

Waypoints are a fine way of travel that requires you to actually explore a little. If you don’t want to put effort into Tyria, it’s devs should not put effort into you.

Mounts?

You can teleport across the entire map at the push of a button or take an Asura gate for the same effect and a little travel to accompany it. I, for one think that mounts is a stupid idea because there is almost -no- need for them. Mounts are just a way for lazy people to reach waypoints and explore/outrun mobs faster.

Not to make sweeping, generalized statements or anything, but that’s pretty much what I got out of your demands for speed increases.

Frosty and Frosty Law Firm.4981

Hell yeah! we will rule the whole of tyria and gain world domination.

In order to achive this goal, we definetly have to be racist…..

belive me as soon as we gain world domination, we will start inventing machines in order to shrink everything in tyria to asura size. Chars, Norns, Humans and Sylvari will serve as our slaves.

it feels so good to be evil.

[Inquest mode online]

Slaves are inefficient and die far too quickly to make a long-term difference. We’ll just put all the lesser races into many small colonies devoid of resources and communication with one another and hold them in, entirely dependent on our aid. They will be allowed no texts or technology aside of clothing and meager shelter to minimize costs. Then we’ll periodically take them and put their offspring into the latest and greatest harvesting Golems— Equipped with a D-class aggression inhibiter and an obedience array in the soul core, of course.
