Sounds like you should of made a Sylvari, there hair / patterns glow when it’s night.
Veggie master race.
I completely agree. It’s funny, people used to argue that GW2 should have flying mounts, and would cite the broom and magic carpet as examples. I thought that was a disgusting and pointless idea — but now that gliding is a thing, they totally fit!
(Okay, so now some part of me wants to see “Propeller Hat” and “Mario 3 Raccoon Tail” as glider options…)
Just wanted to throw this suggestion out there, regarding the 10,000 drinks achievement needed to obtain Winter’s Presence …
There’s more than one holiday in Tyria. Many of these holidays and seasonal events come with an assortment of festive treats, food, and drink. Why not allow some of these to count for past collection achievements that require the mass consumption of goodies?
Players who couldn’t spend their winter “holidays” (a very ironically-named time of year for some people) farming the same event 8+ hours a day, will still have to put in the play time to generate the necessary items. Those who did the farming to get the reward early, already have it to enjoy much sooner. Those who couldn’t put in the same farming time during that period, have the potential to pick up where they left off when the next seasonal event rolls around.
I’m not saying every holiday-themed consumable should count towards Winter’s Presence, but surely certain beverages could be introduced in a reasonable manner. I mean, you just invented this “Brew of the Month Club” thing. Why not have those special beers count for a big chunk, as a calendar-gated boost? At least then, more players actually have some hope of working towards what they want to earn.
Holiday events should be about having fun, not furiously farming the same activity over and over, stressing about whether you’ll make it before your time is up. But if there were some degree of seasonal overlap for such large-scale collections like Winter’s Presence — and possibly others to come — then there is still a strong incentive to participate in holidays while they’re active. I think you would get more players putting in an effort to actually achieve these things, and putting in as much time as they could, but not getting P.O.’d at GW2 and ANet in the process.
I know there will be players who are against this, and want to keep their “special, exclusive thing”… but honestly, it’s not like I’m asking to put in less time or effort than they did. We’d still all have to play/farm/grind as much as them — it just wouldn’t have to be compressed within a specific couple of weeks on the calendar.

The problem is there’s no “theme” to this weapon. Legendary weapons aren’t just a random jumble of particle effects and glowing bits — they have a unified character.
Meteorlogicus is a mechanical model of a solar system, with clouds, planets, and stars. Its appearance even reacts to the day/night cycle.
Kudzu has a plant/nature theme, with a dryad depicted on the bow, petals falling from it while drawn, and flowers growing in the user’s footsteps.
Nevermore has a dark, druidy feel to it. It’s a gnarled tree branch with a large raven sitting atop it, and a little flock of ravens surround you when you wield it. When you draw it, a raven spirit surrounds the staff, and projectile effects can change into a raven form.
This “Flaming Green Skull Katana” sounds like “sharks with frickin’ laser beams on their heads,” to me. You’re just piling on random stuff that sounds bad-kitten on their own, but when combined they just seem ironically cluttered and kind of silly. Maybe if it were established that this weapon were present in the Guild Wars lore, or if it were an homage to an actual folklore weapon in history, that would be something. But instead, it’s like we turned to Mad Libs to design a weapon…
[Adjective] [Weapon Type] of [Natural Disaster], with [Adjective] [Symbols] trailing behind it as you [Verb].
I’m fairly certain the reason you can’t queue outside of HoTM is going to have something to do with how they manage cross-server.
They would probably love to allow people to queue outside of HoTM but if the tech doesn’t allow it……
I would agree with you had this post been asking for them to add something new to the game. Queueing outside of Heart of the Mists is how this game was launched. I am asking that we go back to that.
The game didn’t launch with the megaserver system, either. You basically just ignored this concern completely, or it went over your head. I don’t even know if megaservers are necessarily the reason, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re a huge part of it.
Just look at Super Adventure Box. On our end, there’s nothing really different about how our characters run and jump that should preclude it “just” being reactivated. But ANet basically said that there have been significant changes in the behind-the-scenes mechanics, and it’s not as simple as just putting it back into the game. Something as innocuous as a self-contained instance with no combat whatsoever is too much of an issue due to recent changes — and yet, you act like it’s a simple matter to just “go back” to server-level functionality from the game’s launch.
Also, people will absolutely miss and/or pass on their PvP queue pops, given the chance to be distracted by other open-world game events, map chat, crafting, leveling an alt, story missions, achievement hunting, map completion, etc. You can’t seriously say that won’t happen. Have you never queued for anything in any other MMORPG before? Weighing the pros and cons of such a change is a worthwhile debate to be had, certainly — but if your response to a very realistic concern is basically just “Nah, that won’t happen,” then I just can’t take your argument seriously.
Lastly, I just wanna say, have you read those posts? Cus. None of them mention a queue time of 20 minutes. In fact one of them is complaining about a 3-5 minute queue time. Another one says that he hit 17 minutes, but that was an all time high for him, beating out his old longest wait time of 13 minutes. So I do think these cases are the anomoly.
I’m just going to add, for perspective: when I played FFXIV, I never even got into a PvP match. I queued a couple of times, but gave up after a 30-40 minute wait each time. And never mind the dungeons — if you play DPS, get ready to reliably wait 75+ minutes every time. And yes, people will either miss/decline on their end when the queue pops, or join and then immediately quit for any number of reasons.

The only silver lining I see is that right now, the Mentor tag is a new and shiny thing. People are displaying it mainly to join in the lols, and to feel empowered that they are undermining ArenaNet’s intentions. It won’t be long before the novelty of that gets stale, though, and I think abuse of the tag “just because” will fade.
Once the momentum starts to shift in that direction, we’ll have a different climate to address the issue. Those who use it incorrectly as a makeshift commander tag may be irritated that new players keep asking them for advice/assistance. And once they’re exposed as “fakes,” there will exist an opportunity to call them out on it. Of course, trolls will be trolls. And a few players blocking or threatening in vain to report abuse won’t mean much, but just the general negative social stigma around abusing the Mentor tag may be enough to cause an overall impact. Abuse will always exist, but we may see a day when most of the Mentors you see are legit.
I’ll take my time with Revenant, although with several 80s under my belt at this point there will undoubtedly be some moderate use of XP boosters or Tomes. I still like to do some of the story, get map coverage, gather materials and gear, and settle into the class. I didn’t really get confident with Rev during the beta, so having an instant 80 with 0% map coverage and no practice time just isn’t going to do anything for me.
How will raids actually require Ascended?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Fyrebrand.4859
Ascended what, though? Berserker? Sinister? Rabid? Soldier? Celestial?
How do you gear content toward a specific tier of stats, when those stats are basically an unknown variable?
I still think that practice, knowing the fights, coordinating with your group, and having an effective build is going to make 95% of the difference between winning and wiping.
My main classes have always been Ranger and Elementalist, but those might be some elites that I hold off on at first. I couldn’t get into a comfort zone with Tempest, and Druid seems to be very situational.
On the other hand, Reaper and Scrapper felt sooooo good in the beta. I’m going to play those early on, for sure.
I actually think I know more about HoT now than almost any other game before it released. The only exception might be the original release of GW2.
I’m using MasterCard and yes my card still active and I double check my bank account and there is more than enough money to buy the Expansion ……
Uh, did you mean to say that you checked the actual credit limit/balance on your Mastercard? Because whatever amount of cash you have in the bank doesn’t have anything to do with whether a credit card transaction will go through. Your Mastercard doesn’t take money out of the bank when you buy things with it. It has its own separate balance that you have to pay off afterward. Just mentioning, because either you already knew this and I was just misunderstanding what you are trying to say, or you are in for a really nasty surprise…
I can’t believe this is even a topic. List your items on the TP for whatever price you want to. It is not an ethical or moral quandary.
Hey, I’m on board with new weapons any time. I just don’t see this specific type coming to GW2. More likely, ANet will just keep bringing already-existing weapon types to professions that don’t yet have access to them, at least for as long as it makes sense to do so.
I still would really like to see aquatic weapons become usable on land. Spears and Tridents especially would be really awesome, and I bet they could do some neat things with Spearguns as well!
(And why do they call those things “warglaives” anyway? That’s not a glaive. Isn’t a real glaive essentially a polearm? It’s basically like a single-edged sword blade on the end of a staff.)
Apparently, OP thinks he and his guildies are good enough to complete raids. I sure hope raids don’t end up being too hard for him, or else they may not be good for the game anymore.
imo every class is a DPS in GW2, with heal and support skills on the side.
A party role only makes sense as a concept when you can contrast that role with a different role in the party.
When there is no one absorbing all the enemy aggro so that the rest of the party can survive, then there is no designated tank. We don’t say “everyone’s a tank.”
When there is no one primarily focused on healing the tank and other players over the course of each battle, then there is no designated healer. We don’t say “everyone’s the healer.”
When there is no person/people whose responsibility it is to take care of the vast majority of outgoing damage while other players take care of other roles, then there is no designated DPS. We don’t say “everyone’s a DPS.”
Imagine if GW2 had no system of light, medium, and heavy armor. There would just be no tiers for armor. We wouldn’t just pick one of those three at random and say “Everyone in GW2 wears medium armor.”
Thief is a pretty difficult class to handle, and very squishy. You will definitely need to pay attention and time your dodges according to the specific moments you want to avoid a hit. There is no passive stat that is going to randomly award you a free “dodge.” You can’t just stand there face-to-face with your target, taking turns punching each other.
That said, there are some behind-the-scenes “stat”-like factors you can set up. Toughness (defense, take less damage) or Vitality (more HP) can be helpful if you’re struggling. There are some traits you can take to help replenish your Endurance bar faster, which determines how often you can dodge. Certain weapon skills allow you to stun/daze targets, or avoid attacks, or function as gap openers/closers. But then, I suppose you will consider this “consoley” and “pathetic” whatever that means.
Honestly, my two main pieces of advice for you are:
1) Stop thinking this game is WoW, or needs to play like WoW. There is no “holy trinity.” You are not a DPS.
2) Try another class. Thief is one of the most difficult classes for a beginner, is very squishy, and bears only a surface-level resemblance to WoW’s “Rogue.” Warrior, Ranger, or Guardian are significantly more survivable for leveling and solo play, and may help you acclimatize to the game better. Personally, I still am not particularly comfortable with Thief myself.
Druid looks really interesting, but I am somewhat concerned that it’s too niche as a dedicated “heavy healer.” What applications does this have in open-world PvE, solo play, world bosses, or even the current dungeons?
What I was expecting to see was something like… when you go into Celestial Form, all those healing skills on the staff turn into higher damage/offensive applications, or vice versa.

Welcome back!
Uh, well there have potentially been a ton of changes since you left, depending when that was. A lot of features have been tweaked/added. PvP Reward Tracks are a thing now. Traits can be swapped around for free, any time you’re out of combat. There are a couple new zones, Dry Top and Silverwastes. Season 2 of Living Story is complete, and definitely worth checking out (you can get it via the Gem Store, or have any friend who has it unlocked invite you in).
Exotic is still pretty much the standard “best” gear people can reasonably expect you to have. There is Ascended gear as well, which provides a minor stat bump but is far from necessary, and quite a lot of work to put together. So don’t worry, you are not behind in terms of stats — but you may want to check your skills and build, as there have been a lot of balance changes over the years.
Aside from that, it may be worth checking out some of these:

“Necros have no place in PvE, they are just dead weight!”
– The guy lying on the floor while necro beat the boss for him
- I think the trait/specialization system is super fun to play around with, and overall improved a lot of traits that were lackluster before.
- The new and improved Lion’s Arch is pretty great as well. At least come check that out, and track down all the karkas!
- There’s a beta for PvP Stronghold mode this weekend! I think it’s supposed to be open for everybody…
Dramatic framerate drops during certain world boss events. Admittedly, my pc is not great, and I expect a loss in performance when there are a lot of people gathered in one place. But it really only happens during the actual boss fight. The worst offender for me is Frozen Maw. Before and after the final battle, there’s not much of an issue. But as soon as that darn snow storm starts up, it’s down to 3 FPS for me. I know I’m not the only one who gets this either, people often mention it during the event. I wish something could be done about the storm effects to make them a little more framerate-friendly.
I know, I know. “Time to update ur PC, mate! lulz.” But not all world bosses do this to the same degree, and the rest of the game runs fine. Plus, Silverwastes is way more complex an event, and doesn’t give any problems. Maybe it’s just programmed better, or something?
Just like with any game, low fps really takes away from the experience. When it drops to below 40, it starts to feel slower and laggier, and it really does make it horrible.
Um… yeah. I can imagine how frustrating that must be for you. 40 FPS, you say. Wow, how do you LIVE??
>:-(
Condition damage is spread out over time, though. The target has an opportunity to respond, either by healing through it, applying regen, activating other skills, countering with their own conditions/attacks, etc. Conditions can be cleansed so that they don’t even get through the full duration that they were going to — and in some cases, can even be converted into boons. There are even traits and runes that automatically clear conditions, or reduce condition damage and duration. Direct damage doesn’t have the same kinds of hoops to jump through, in order to achieve full effect.
Maybe if Protection reduced condition ticks by a much smaller amount — 10%, say — I could see it being more reasonable. But I’m not convinced it’s necessary. Plus, the impetus behind this request seems to center on a player vs player battle. Don’t forget this would affect PvE as well. Why do we need this there?
I totally understand your frustration. As others have suggested, you should contact support and they may cooperate with you and get you a partial refund or something. Can’t say for sure, but I’ve heard of it happening.
Now, on the flip side, I just have a few questions for anyone who gets “upset” at stuff like this:
1) When you buy a game on Steam, and a week later it goes on sale for 25% off or something, do you get mad at Steam? Do you get mad at the publisher? How about if you buy a box of cereal at the store, and in a couple of days a new flyer comes out, and that cereal goes on sale for cheaper than you paid? Are you mad at the store? Did they cheat you?
2) How is anyone supposed to put anything on sale, without making you mad? Is that possible?
3) What should be the grace period at which refunds should still be offered, to people who bought something just before it goes on sale? A day? Two days? A week? Are you still going to freak out and get mad if you bought it just a day before the one-week grace period began?
4) Are customers who bought something just before a sale entitled to the same concessions as customers who buy something just after a sale ended? Why?
5) Does it behoove companies to warn consumers about the possibility of upcoming price reductions? How should they go about doing that? Should they discourage people from buying their product? Should they disable online sales and issue product recalls? For how long do they need to do this, before the “sale” happens?
6) Do you consider a temporarily-lowered price on a product or service to be unethical? Do you feel offended, or cheated, by this practice? How do you feel the company has wronged you, personally? It seems to me that you are mad at the circumstances of reality, and your own poor luck, than anything the company actually did.
Ha! Noticed this as well. You’d think if they were going to make an NPC called Bongo the One-Eyed, they’d at least give him an eye-patch or something. Unless there’s some explanation for it that we’re missing out on..?
Beta weekend players, HoT worth it or not?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Fyrebrand.4859
I honestly don’t think the beta is a good way to judge how good HoT will be.
- We have VERY limited, shallow access to a tiny sliver of one new map. And only one piece of a story instance.
- Revenant and all the new specs still feel alien and uncomfortable at this point because no one has really spent any quality time to get to know them in-depth, across all game modes. Plus, balancing and bug fixes are still being worked on — and the Ranger and Engineer elites haven’t even been implemented yet!
- Hang-gliding and bouncing off mushrooms is very cool, but most of us really haven’t gotten a full picture of what the mastery system really means, and what it accesses.
- Raids aren’t yet a thing. Neither are any of the upcoming guild features.
- Everything feels rushed and inconsequential, because we feel pressured to see as much as we can in a weekend, then it all goes away.
It’s important to remember: this is not a demo of HoT. This is not a limited trial period of the full expansion. This is a very controlled, closed-off segment of some features, for testing and QA purposes. Don’t start thinking “This is what HoT is,” because this is only a small piece.
Sorry for your, uh… “bad” luck, OP..? Although nothing really bad happened to you. As you say, you were informed that what happens on beta characters will just be wiped and not count toward your actual account. Anything that drops, you don’t get to keep. You should just view playing on a beta character as sort of a “pretend” experience where nothing matters.
That said, I do understand some of the frustration. I wouldn’t want to miss out on an Ascended drop either. But hey, at least you’re not one of those poor folks who had a Precursor drop! Even knowing ahead of time that I wouldn’t get to keep anything, I would still flip a table if that happened to me.
I do see the wisdom in not letting beta characters loot gear during this time, though. It’s not like we really need anything that drops, aside from event-based items. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.
I wonder if they actually went and increased drop rates of “rarer” stuff for beta characters as some kind of joke, because of all the people talking about this happening.
It’s not that it’s happening more often, it’s that people feel more compelled to post about it when it happens on their beta character, because it feels like a significant event to them. Nobody posts on the forums or Reddit when they get an Ascended item in the “real” game.
(edited by Fyrebrand.4859)
So what you’re saying is, Druid has to be good, or else it won’t be good..?
Seriously? It’s literally just two sentences of text that appear temporarily on loading screens. It will be gone by the end of the weekend. Just creating this forum topic and making the complaint has already wasted more of your time and energy than the loading screen message ever could.
The waypoint fee is hardly a gold sink. For a veteran player like me the +/- 3 silver per teleport that I have to pay is absolutely nothing, I don’t even notice it.
Gold sinks aren’t necessarily supposed to be noticeable. It’s to ArenaNet’s credit that they can implement a gold sink that doesn’t inconvenience people or make them feel like they are fighting against the game just to earn a decent amount of gold.
Not to mention that I can easily circumvent the teleport fee by simply using WvW or HoTM for my crafting and banking needs, which is what I do 99% of the time when I need to craft or bank something.
The fact that you’re changing your behaviour to circumvent the waypoint fee means that it is noticeable. And I do the same thing, if I want to get to Lion’s Arch, or sometimes even Divinity’s Reach. Rather than teleport directly to the exact spot I want to go, I’ll go to WvW or HotM, and take the portal to LA. And then once I’m in LA, teleport again to the specific part of LA I want to be in. Or take another portal to DR. So instead of spending a tiny amount of silver, I’ve instead used up a tiny amount of my time. Which is another form of “sink” in MMOs.
It’s not a big deal each time it happens. It’s entirely my choice whether I want to wait for a few extra teleports and loading screens, or simply eat the cost in silver. I don’t “feel” the effects of it too harshly at any point — but smart “gold sinks” or “time sinks” aren’t about hammering individual players — it’s about having subtle effects on the overall economy, over the entire population of players.
I remember when I just started playing GW2 that I was constantly running out of money because of the teleport fee. It’s highly unfriendly to new players.
I remember that as well, back at launch. But things are different now. The game gives you more useful hand-outs than it used to — at level ups, from personal story steps, or from achievements. PvP reward tracks exist now. Log-in rewards, laurels, etc., exist now. Equipment repair is free. Earning traits went through a real miserable patch for a while, but is now back to being free.
Aside from teleports and salvage kits, what do new players even need gold for? This isn’t WoW, where you have to buy all your spells and save up 40g for a mount.
“Personal guilds” were never intended to be a thing. People just have them for free extra bank space, and to be honest, it’s kind of a cheat. Not that I’m pointing fingers at those who do — heck, I have one since my old guild disbanded. At best, ArenaNet sort of treats it as a “look the other way” kind of thing. It’s not technically against the rules, but don’t expect them to bend over backwards to make sure “personal guilds” are catered to in all the new features.
I´m done with the hype, I need cold hard facts now to decide my future here.
We’re all on the edge of our seats, I assure you… :P
(edited by Fyrebrand.4859)
Nope. The Vulnerability cap will remain at 25 stacks (25% damage increase). However, it will now increase condition damage as well. As since damaging conditions are having their caps raised to a whopping 1500 stacks, that is a pretty big deal.
Every MMORPG that gives you free hairstyle/colour changes has some other scam going on to make up for it. Whether it’s an explicit monthly subscription fee, a pay wall on some other type of content, or grindier gameplay, the difference is made up somewhere, I guarantee it.
Hair style kits are some of the cheapest cosmetic items you can get. I think they are a very reasonable price, especially considering you can trade gold for gems to supplement your real-world cash in any proportion you feel is reasonable. I don’t want to sound like some “white knight,” but please keep in mind that just because this game isn’t subscription-based, it doesn’t mean you should expect to get anything you want, when you want it, by just owning the game. You think WoW and FFXIV can charge $15/month and give you X amount of features, meanwhile you buy GW2 on sale for $10 once and you want the same amount of value? At least GW2 is letting you choose what you want to purchase, without forcing you to subscribe. Where is the choice in a monthly subscription? Go ahead, “choose” to cancel your sub, see what it gets you.
Let us brainstorm some ideas real factual ideas
add more dungeon paths
add another set of armor and weapons
No offense, but that is one of the least realistic things you could have come up with. ArenaNet has shown no interest in creating new dungeon content at all for a very long time. And creating quality, engaging dungeon scenarios takes a lot of time, creativity, and resources. It’s not something they can whip up in an afternoon, especially while they’re dedicated to getting HoT ready and overhauling the specialization system, traits, how conditions work, etc.
I would love to see some new dungeon content as much as anyone, but we don’t need rushed, cookie-cutter, throw-away content just for the sake of it. Maybe after HoT comes out, but not before.
Please no SAB comments.
?_?
In my opinion, SAB is actually the #1 most feasible thing they could put back in the game — both in terms of making players happy and giving us something to do while waiting for HoT, and also in terms of not totally derailing ANet staff from working on their current projects.
The baseball cap really broke any suspension of disbelief I had about this game on day 1. It was very disappointing.
There are tonics that turn you into a tree, I don’t see how a baseball cap breaks your immersion.
Seriously, people really do get arbitrary about what upsets their “immersion,” while simultaneously taking for granted all kinds of equally silly nonsense. Other players are going to do silly things with their characters, put them in funny clothes, give them humorous names, etc. It happens in every MMO.
If a main NPC character wore the ball cap in a story scene, that would be one thing. But as an optional gem store piece for players to wear for fun? Not worth getting in a twist about.
Are you aware you can complete your daily within 15 min or less in pvp?
I’m someone who is increasingly enjoying a round or two of PvP, and often relies on it as a crutch for getting my dailies done, but this hasn’t always been the case for me. So, I have to play devil’s advocate on this one.
OP was pointing out a flaw in a specific daily requirement, even pointing out areas where events in the game were bugged and not possible to complete. These events should be FIXED, not ignored. And if there’s an issue where reaching events is nearly impossible due to how the system forces players to ravenously swoop in and impatiently blast through them as fast as possible, then ought that not be addressed properly? The answer isn’t “play this other game mode you don’t enjoy.” Do you really want ArenaNet to treat their game this way?
You aren’t going to get more players into PvP by making PvE worse. You’re just going to lose players.
Just reset personal story!
Just swap out racial skills!
Just check for race-specific armor and force the player to unequip first!
Just erase standing with your chosen Order!
Just reset your home instance so that it forgets past events!
Just whip up a quick interface for overturning concepts that the game has always regarded as permanent and unchangeable! Wow, so simple!
….or, you know, just roll a new character like everyone has been doing, for years. I get it, losing the map completion sucks. But with all the account-bound items and achievements, level-up scrolls and skill points, GW2 must be the world’s easiest MMO to catch up if you do decide to re-roll.
Like others have said, I would much rather have ArenaNet apply their efforts elsewhere.
I thought they put it back in the store, like a few weeks ago, no? Granted, it was for a limited time. May not be back for a while…
The new core spec system can’t come soon enough! It will be fun to play around with the new traits, and if they’re doing away with the awful trait-hunting requirements then I can finally play my alts again!
I’ve been playing since launch, with a few breaks here and there, and I do understand why some people get burnt out. It’s impossible for any game to hold your committed interest for that long. Plus, once you get into the habit of a daily routine of farming, quick dungeons for gold, or just logging in for daily chest, it can feel like the “soul” of the game has slipped away.
Today, I decided to just do something fun and polish off my Maguuma Explorer achievement. I had 166/167 completion, so I wasn’t sure where that last place was. While it was fun to revisit some familiar maps and just have a look around, in the end I had to look it up. It was a rather obscure place in Metrica Province called “Calx’s Lab.” There’s a specific event chain that activates an asura gate so you can warp there.
After 2+ years of GW2, and having earned 100% world map completion long ago, there are still places I have never seen before, and events I’ve never done. It’s times like this when I get a distinct feeling of awe, like “My god, this game is amazing…” I’ve never played another MMO that gave me quite the same feeling.
Yep, when I feel this game is too annoying to play, I play another MMO. It doesn’t take long for me to make my way back here.
Oh man, ain’t that the truth. Not that other MMOs are completely terrible either, but if there is anything that makes me appreciate GW2, it’s playing other MMORPGs.
Well considering just $100 gets you 8000 gems, I don’t think you need anything near a million dollars, lol…
I guess after that, there’s converting gems to gold for added non-gem-store possibilities. You can get legendaries, or black lion weapon skins.
I won’t get into this “I’d buy a house” or “I’d invest in real estate” because that has nothing to do with the topic. But if I can get “real life” a little, I would definitely get myself a beast of a gaming PC so I can crank them GW2 graphics up to max!
There is no reason Super Adventure Box shouldn’t just be permanent content at this point unless they’re actually committed to making it a yearly festival which they clearly aren’t. They’re too attached to the Living World Season 1 mindset, which was never a great mindset to begin with.
It would make so many people happy if we had something like Super Adventure Box to tide us over until Heart of Thorns finally comes out. They don’t even need to update it. I don’t really get to play it when it came out and am dying for a chance to really get into it again.
I wouldn’t even say they’re still in “the Living World Season 1 mindset,” as they clearly grew out of that mindset with Season 2 being permanently available. At least with Season 1, they have the excuse that all those events were tied to real-time situations and stories, open-world events, and it wouldn’t really be possible to bring them back in the same way without it being anachronistic and contradictory.
In SAB’s case, there is nothing about it that ties it to a specific world state, period, or time of the year. SAB wasn’t destroyed at any point. Nothing happened in the world of Tyria to disrupt of deactivate it. It’s not being held captive by Mordremoth. It didn’t run on Zhaitan batteries. There is literally no good reason why SAB shouldn’t be in the game, right now. Even if ANet doesn’t want to actively work on new worlds for SAB, that is no reason to block off access to what was already finished — especially when so many people are clamoring for it, and are strongly disappointed in the company’s decision (not to mention those who bought the Infinite Continue Coin).
There are some people who offer the rather silly excuse that “If they made it permanent, people would eventually get bored and not play it.” Frankly, that is an insane thing to say — you might as well say the same thing about every single thing in GW2. No new exp-mode paths for dungeons? Better remove dungeons from the game, then, before people get bored! No new events in Frostgorge? Bin it! No new ranger pets? Remove pets from the game. No new factals in development? DELETE!
Anyone who doesn’t enjoy SAB doesn’t have to play it. It wouldn’t be doing the game any harm, to just be there, available for those who enjoy it. Furthermore, if it were permanent and not on a limited-time basis, then we could actually enjoy playing it at our leisure, rather than worry about begrudgingly farming it as much as humanly possible before it disappears for another 2 years.
I’m not sure how I would feel about raids in GW2. I’m not really thrilled with the idea of having to scrounge up additional numbers of players just to get through a dungeon, but if it were limited to 8-10 or so, it could still be reasonable. But we can’t have any more of this “stack in a corner” or “glitch out the boss so he can’t hit us” nonsense. You don’t need more than 5 people, just to do that.
I thought ArenaNet basically said that they are not interested in developing new instanced dungeons, though…? Sorry, I can’t back that up with a quote or anything, just something I thought I read a while back. It certainly appears to be the case, though.
I guess it would be nice if maybe there were a handful of special Waypoints (maybe one in each map?) that was account-unlocked when you discover it. At least then you wouldn’t have to worry about whether your alts can get anywhere, if your guild is doing missions or something.
But I don’t think 100% of everything should be account-unlocked just because one of your characters has done it. Sure, maybe you have 10+ alts and it would be a chore to get 100% map completion on all of them — but why would you need to even do that? It’s not necessary.
Has there ever been an MMO released where you can have everything unlocked on any new character once you’ve completed it on another? I can’t think of one…
I can’t think of another MMO I’ve played that even comes close to GW2’s amount of features/items/achievements that are account-bound or unlocked across all characters. I think for most other games, they are still struggling to even recognize the concept.
Trolling is one of the weakest form of humor. It is like sarcasm (which can be rather fun), but with the difference that the person you are talking to does not understand. The only lowest form of humor I can think of is telephonic pranks.
Why don’t you promote in-game puns and witticisms instead?
This video says otherwise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
Lol, okay, this MIGHT be a non-malicious form of trolling, but I still think a more accurate term would be a “practical joke” or prank, or even just a meme. It’s not directed at anyone in particular, and is just sort of planted there, to be observed. It’s also completely harmless, and its content has nothing to do with the individual you’re targeting, or make any sort of statement about them.
Btw. what’s up with these anti-troll people. In my eyes, trolling is the same as making a joke. It’s like these people never had fun in their lives. I’m on the internet right?
If trolling were the same as making a joke, then it would just be called “making a joke” and there wouldn’t be a separate word to describe this new internet phenomenon. And of course, the OP would never have to make a thread called “Allow making jokes in game and forum.” Because OF COURSE jokes are allowed. But trolling is understood to be something distinct from just having a laugh. It is naive to claim that there’s no difference.
I mean, I GUESS there are probably forms of pranks, or humour, that have sort of a “gotcha” element to them, without doing any lasting harm. Like, when someone asks how to do something in-game and they’re told “Hit Alt+F4.”
Or, was it World of Warcraft, where you could cast Water Walking on somebody, then when they jumped off a high cliff into a lake, they would die from fall damage?
But even so, I’m not sure I could call those “trolling.” Once it’s done, it’s done. You can’t fall for it multiple times, and nobody can really force it on you. I’m trying to think of something “trollish” in GW2… well, last night in Silverwastes I tried out my first chest-farming train. Pretty much every chest, people would put down Bobblehead and Aviator’s Memory boxes, or other random junk, in an attempt to trick people into interacting with them instead. It was kind of funny the first few times, but it just went on and on, and honestly got kind of annoying. That, and pretty much nobody would dig. I dunno, does this count? :-/
Ordinarily, yes I would say that MMORPGs most definitely should offer some kind of free trial or demo. Especially games where you still have to pay full price at retail, plus monthly subscriptions thereafter. I’m not usually willing to risk that amount of money on a game I may not really enjoy in the long term, especially since if I don’t stay subbed I basically don’t have a game anymore.
But in GW2’s case, there is no sub fee, and on several occasions the price has gone down as low as $10. And once you have it, you have it forever, to play on your own time and your own pace. I don’t really consider that any real risk, and even if you don’t stick with it for a long time it has got to be worth at least ten bucks.
This is kind of a rip-off, to be honest. Not only can you do nothing with a duplicate mini, but it’s taking up a prize slot from the chest that could have been filled with something of actual use. The weird thing is, not all minis are account-bound. I got a duplicate Mini Kasmeer the other day, and while it was a let-down, it wasn’t a total loss as I could still sell it for a couple gold.
I think the “mini claim ticket” idea is great, or failing that maybe duplicate minis just don’t get flagged as account-bound on acquire.
also a way to use up the Mini Queen jennah
I’m fine with the mini Queen Jennah, because it was free and we didn’t have to invest/purchase anything to get it. It’s useless to have multiples, especially now that minis are account unlocks, but it’s not like we’ve “lost” anything because of it.
I agree that it is a bit silly due to the easy character-swap work-around. But, it probably still serves a small purpose, especially for new players who have not done the story mode and want to experience it without waiting in LFG forever. Or even if they ask some guildies if anyone will do the story mode with them, people will probably be more likely to join if they can bring an alt and unlock the dungeon on them.
It’s really not that big a deal. You do the story mode once on the new character, and explorable is unlocked forever.
I was asking for any non-malicious trolling ways. non-malicious includes not being offensive and destructive.
Then I have no idea what you are talking about, and it seems no one so far has been able to provide an example of it. Trolling, by definition, is malicious, offensive, and destructive. It serves to cause others annoyance and grief, for the purposes of someone else’s amusement. At best, it derails otherwise productive conversations, turning them into embittered arguments — and at worst, causes serious emotional harm, even to criminal degrees.
Maybe what you are talking about is just joking around, acting silly, or pulling a harmless prank on someone you know will be able to appreciate and understand your sense of humour. But “trolling” does not just refer to a good-natured practical joke. It is pretty much always done at someone else’s expense, where one side of the exchange is legitimately angered, hurt, or defamed in some way, while the other side derives enjoyment from the victimization of others. A troll is only considered “successful” once they have actively deceived or frustrated some unknowing participant. And no, the person who is doing the offending doesn’t get to decide whether of not their words/actions are “offensive” or not. You do not get to say “Lighten up, I’m just trolling” and get off the hook. That’s like punching someone in the face and saying “You don’t get to feel injured by that, it was just a fake troll punch.” And often, such admissions of trolling are not made with remorse or apologies, or explanations that it was all a joke and meant no offense. It’s usually just more insults hurled at the offended party.
Maybe you made an unfortunate word choice here, I don’t know. But if what you are talking about is truly harmless and understood to be so by everyone, then why do you even need to ask that it be “allowed” in the game or forums?
