Asuran Mesmer Mind Tricks: “These aren’t the golems you’re looking for.”
Why not give us a new elite skill to unlock called Item Identification? It would be part of PoF and encourage sales.
The final form would allow us to ID items in our inventory for free. Or at a minor tool kit cost.
PoF??? players on fire…. bout wouldmakemore sense potatoes on fire
Flame those ’taters!! Yeeeahhh!!
Flame some bacon and onions too! Don’t forget to grill a steak!
But make it a good clean flame (no common burnables). Mesquite or Hickory (tasty), ‘cause where there’s fire, there’s smoke!
A deluxe breakfast for sure if eggs were added. A good thing to have while watching the announcement. At least we have an announcement of an expansion, even if we don’t know the name of it yet. It’s called building suspense. Like building a good meal, it all takes time and effort.
Wouldn’t a personal or seasonal story (instanced with combat) work for testing purposes? If you leave before it’s finished, it should reset, requiring you to start over.
Having never played as a human, I can’t testify for them.
Norn seem to lack some reasonable animation. Take an asura for comparison. Have one jump off a cliff. Arms and legs flailing, screaming (sometimes). Do the same with a Norn. They drop like a rock, no animation.
Probably why I play asura so much, they’re very animated, sometimes comically so.
Unless it’s changed since I used mine, the level 80 HoT boost lets you test-drive it (only on the Dry Top map) on any character you have along with the gear and traits (auto-selected, I think). This might be a good opportunity to check out the assorted professions at level 80 in a PvE environment at your leisure.
PvP/WvW temporarily upgrades you to level 80 without the boost, which is another means of experimentation and a good way to earn XP from what I hear.
Perhaps some new cosmetic racial skills could be developed. For fun and racial flavor as it were.
For example:
Norn – Favor of one’s chosen animal spirit. Whichever one you choose at creation becomes an unlimited transformation ability with costume brawl capabilities. NPCs in various areas could sell artifacts that allow for alternative transformations by anyone.
Asura – Mind Control: This race of superior master minds has learned how to use mind control on critters. This allows critters to be used in a remote costume brawl against other controlled critters. Like the Norn, various Asuran NPCs would sell devices to let anyone control a critter’s mind. Perhaps figure in a way to specialize based on a character creation factor.

I’m able to get by with exotic gear. No ascended needed.
You might need to consider different stats on your armor and changing up your play style a bit in order to survive better. Caution is also warranted. Try not to take on too many enemies at one time by yourself. Having said that, some of my characters do much better than others, regardless of my play style. These new areas are meant to be end game quality and difficult. Learning how to survive and elite skills, such as gliding,
help a lot. The more you know, the better you become. Don’t let the fact that nearly EVERYTHING there WANTS to kill you, or do generally very bad, no good things to you, get you down.
The level 80 boost that comes with HoT provides a set of exotic Soldier’s gear, which generally gives better health and defense with Power for damage.
What character types are you taking to the new HoT areas? Maybe I can help a bit. Feel free to look my up in game sometime.

As much fun as this all sounds, in PvP/WvW situations, the potential for abuse of such cameras to be used as spy-cams might outweigh the benefits.
Also the Inventor’s Sunglasses need to be fixed.
Do the reading and wide rim glasses even have lenses?
They appear to be empty frames on my characters (no lens reflection, nothing to show anything is there). Not sure about the insides of those glasses, but I suspect they are like the others and don’t display.
My warrior can get really angry…then burst into a red flaming ball of energy (berserker mode).
Sadly, no chi blast powers of any sort and it only lasts for a few seconds. I won’t go into how many episodes of DBZ it takes for some of the fight scenes let alone an entire fight from start to finish.
I just have to mention, as someone who plays asura almost exclusively:
Asura have ears instead of beards. Ears can be individually selected, regardless of face. Their qualities (tip shape, thickness and length) can be changed with sliders.
So, MORE EARS for asura and sylvari!!
More beards for male norn and humans! Give females (and males?) makeup or piercings
More horns for charr!
Ultimately, more for everyone is better.

GW2 has a “high fantasy” theme, always did. And with a touch of the Steampunk/Magitech. Every person have their own taste, likes and dislikes. I’m not a super fan of some of the parts myself (You can shuttle the asura with all their stuff to the moon for all that I care). But they’ve made it this way so that everyone should be able to find something they like somewhere.
Ascalon maps, the Charr areas, are in general some of my favorites. Like the terrain and all the ruins, though personally think the charr is too fond of all their machines. Ah well, when I need a break from that I can go to Siverpeaks for more unspoiled nature, or to Kryta for a more traditional “fantasy” setup.
What we will never get: GW1 back in GW2. For good and bad (depending on the person and their taste). And it would probably feel like a waste for most of ANet to make GW1 maps over again for GW2, they tend to have plans with any maps they create (for story etc), so it seems unlikely they have a use for a “GW1 map” again.
/rant
Go ahead, shuttle us asura to the moon. You just KNOW we would make a secret (or not) moon base up there. Today, Tyria. Tomorrow…
It’s probably no coincidence that green is one of our skin colors. Little AND green.

I almost hate to reply to a necroed (sp?) thread, but if you’re using Windows 10, you can also try the Character Map app under the Windows Accessories folder on the start menu.
Chances are the game interface uses the Arial font. On the bottom right of the app window is the alt-code for the specific character selected when using the app. Hold down the alt key and type the number on the numeric keypad (then release alt) to create the character.
Agree on this, designers at anet do seem to love weird looking armour and they cannot get enough of trench-coats and also butt-capes for that matter, even tho nobody seems to like them, but then the anet ppl say; ppl seem to wear them so they must like them right..? Well lets just see how true that is when you start making actual cool amours.
I like the trench coat on my thief. He’s worn it for years although he’s accessorized it with different head and shoulder pieces. Even wears outfits from time to time. Those black sport sunglasses and a trench coat…pure Matrix-like goodness especially with dual pistols, Trinity style.
I don’t seem to like trench coats, I do like them. If that makes me a nobody, then so be it.
Having said that, I do agree that variety is a good thing. More is always better.
There was a cave in Lion’s Arch, used to have pirates/bandits in it. Last I knew, skritt took over in there. Not sure if they are still there. But…one of the skritt vendors inside the cave sold backpack straps really cheap.
I just purchased the Wedding Attire for my male sylvari (primarily) and noticed this big patch of glowy night time “skin” on the left side of the back of his neck. Yes, it’s related to the sylvari glow at night time. The patch pulses and is the same color as my sylvari’s glow. It’s very distracting. This does not show up when viewing my racial armor with the outfit turned off.
After searching the forums, I’ve discovered this issue was mentioned about a year ago. I take it this has not been fixed or is too difficult to track down.
So…I am reporting it once again in hopes that it can be addressed or a work-around provided (also avoiding a necro post). The outfit has otherwise been working well for me.
Restarting seems to have fixed it…for now.
With regard to jumping and possibly related, when the magnetic descender first arrived on the market, just after the patch, I had a jumping issue where I could not jump. My glider did not deploy and I splatted. Typing worked just fine. Restarting the game fixed that too.

I seem to have encountered something really strange in Kessex Hills. My engineer fell into the water and when trying to jump back out onto the dock to continue fighting some bandits, encountered some weird screen flashing where he appeared to be hovering/falling in limbo. After a few attempts, he was warped to another area of the map.
It was very unsettling and a first encounter. I will try a a restart of the game.
1kb to 2kb per second here. Mostly 1kb. Unacceptable.
In fact, I am unable to wait for the download at this speed. I simply don’t have the time. I will try again tomorrow morning. I’ll have to play something else tonight.

I seen a really glowy charr the other day. Very yellowy-orange. Balthazaar outfit, no helmet. Big hair.
Tiger, tiger, burning bright.
the airship for 4 winds already crashed in drytop……
they can’t bring it back without changing something otherwise it will conflict with the lores…..well, another map created just to be used for a few times.
The four winds could be brought back without the airship. The survivors could regroup there and enlist the players assistance in rebuilding. We did it with Lion’s Arch, more or less.
We could milk the events and story for a year or two. The crash survivors camp could eventually become an outpost in Dry Top.

Any word can be used by anyone as a substitute for bad words. An urban dictionary should never be used as a measuring guide unless it’s a commonly used term, accepted and widely used by the general public.
Eventually, none of us will be able to speak without it being considered offensive to someone in some way.
Take the word kitty (kitten) for example. The innuendo (that word itself being such) should be obvious. No petting allowed.
Edit: Hmm…Cheeseburger. Now there’s a word that could be turned to the dark side (eww)… Very easy when you consider what it’s made of and we all know kittens and cheeseburgers go together (can haz?). But then that’s probably not common use. Probably isn’t even in a dictionary. But it could easily be abused for nefarious purposes, thereby destroying a popular cultural phenomenon.

Tier 1: +10% Damage to other players
Tier 2: PvP poison lore. You take no damage from Poison.
Tier 3: +10% Damage to other players
Tier 4: PvP Stealth detection.
Tier 5: +10% Damage to other players
Tier 6: PvP Trap detection.…. on second thoughts. No thanks.
If I did most of my damage via conditions and poison (in a stealthy manner), I would certainly object. It would only be fair to make other damage types irrelevant as well.
Building a character for counteracting a certain play style is much different than having the game make that style irrelevant. Nerfs and developer choices for a healthier gaming environment excluded of course.

What about hero point farming? Or others that just want to farm XP by killing mob spawns?
Not everyone on the new maps wants to participate in the meta-events.
Perhaps something could be worked out when attempting to taxi other players in, based on their participation level, give them priority. But even this could be abused. There’s no easy solution to give everyone what they personally want.
The easiest way to install the 64bit client that I’ve found, in Windows 8.1, is to right click on the 32bit client shortcut (what you use to normally start the game) and select Open File Location. This will open a folder right to where the 32bit client is located and is the same location where you want to place the 64bit executable.
Do a drag and drop from wherever you saved the 64bit executable to the game folder (which moves the file if it’s on the same drive). Then, right click-and hold on the 64bit executable, at it’s new location, and drag it to the desktop. This should present a small options menu. Select Create Shortcuts Here which will place a new shortcut to the game (64bit) on the desktop.
That’s how I installed the new client and it only needed to download a few files.
Disclaimer: This may or may not work for everyone and I don’t offer any guarantees. These instructions also presume anyone following them is comfortable doing such things and understands what is being done. Your mileage may vary, etc.
My druid/ranger is a Sylvari in cultural armor. He doesn’t have a trecnh coat as his current armor, but some of the leaves do hang down suspiciously in the back…
Thing is though, I like trench coats, especially on my (Asura) thief. With dual pistols, dressed in a trench with dark sport shades and black/abyss dye, he looks like a total badkitten.
Note: Had to actually type “badkitten” but the context remains.
With regard to casting in trench coats, I’m reminded of The Xmen. Many super-powered blast and such were slung by trench coat wearing heroes and villains. Granted, scepters, foci and staffs might not look as good in trench coated hands unless made for it.
With regard to Star Wars (the game I won’t mention here since it’s competition), I like the fact that males actually DO have sexy and awesome outfit choices. Lots of bare chests (robes and/or armor) and tempting skin options. One of the few games with equal opportunity clothing. If you ever seen an anime called One Piece and seen the villains with their bare chested outfits, you’ll know what I mean. They’re meant to show off.

A sylvari walked into a salad bar and was promptly served.
(not sure if this is original or not, seems so obvious)

You do realise this is system-wide and nothing per se to do with HoT, yes?
That would make the problem/issue bigger than I had originally thought.
It’s certainly very visible on the HoT maps. We can mouse over our mini-map to see our participation information and map progress. We can even track them with optional progress bars shown next to our mini-map.
When you say system wide, do you mean for any map that has a progression mechanic in place for the entire map? Silverwastes or Dry Top for example? If normal core game maps are using this, how so?
(edited by GamerOnline.3650)
I understand why some HoT maps force players to leave (in 60 minutes) at times. If enough players leave after a certain point, the map will close in order to keep the player count high.
Many of these forced closings happen often when map objectives are met. The map goes from day to night, everyone gets their participation rewards and some leave for other activities. The map wants to close. Those of us left behind must either leave or hope enough players arrive to fill the map back up before we are forced out.
I can accept the reasons for the change. What I cannot accept is the loss of my time invested in participation, especially if I am willing to keep participating. If I must go to another identical map that may not be as progressed as the one I’m leaving, why must I lose all of the time invested in my participation on that map? This effects my rewards from what I understand. The more I participate, the better my rewards will be.
My participation is my personal investment. I should not lose that because others no longer wish to continue playing. Map progression is a group dynamic effort which progresses, or not, with players coming and going.
I would suggest letting players keep their participation level upon map change as long it is to an identical map.

Hmm…not to derail my own topic, but I took a look at the new Druid glyphs and none of them are compatible with water either and it makes no sense. I wonder if this is a trend…
A very, scary trend.
Makes me glad I don’t use glyphs. Looks like HoT is all about land and air. No swimming allowed. I’m thinking all of the new classes are not water compatible at present for whatever reason. At least I can hope these will all be addressed in a future update.
(edited by GamerOnline.3650)
I’ve set up all 4 of my available legendary stances. Only 2 of them work under water. The 2 I normally use do not work under water. They are not compatible with water (they should adapt). If my stances should change automatically when I dive in, they are not doing so.
My gear, traits and stats are not set up to use the other stances. So my choices are limited and I am still handicapped due to my preferred choices.
I’m using the Legendary Centaur Stance and the Legendary Dwarf Stance.
Imagine my shock and horror when I dive into a lake only to discover I have zero under water skills for both of those stances. I’m at an extreme disadvantage vs. other players. I can edit my stances if I wish (but not while in combat) to one that works, but that shouldn’t be necessary. Why should I be forced to play differently when swimming? I’m geared with stats to heal (primary) and tank (secondary).
Under water, all I can use are my spear skills…and speaking of spears, why do I have two aquatic weapon slots when I can only use a spear?!? No tridents or harpoon guns.
Elite skills are shinier than core skills. New moves, new skills and a new weapon.
Like how legendary weapons are shinier than exotic or ascended weapons. Fancy graphics, special effects. Adjustable stats.
Neither give a player an advantage over standard/core equipment or skills available to everyone, thereby maintaining balance in the game.
One shows off their elite-ness by having these new skills fully mastered and unlocked. The skills are shinier than the core skills. They look more cool (I’m very impressed by the berserker’s new moves) than standard moves, the shouts (sound fx) are more awe inspiring etc.
For what it’s worth, a gold sink removes gold from the game. Waypoint fees are a good example of this.
The Trading Post is not a gold sink. The gold remains in another player’s account and in the game, regardless if the player chooses to use this gold or not.
Working for an item, hunting for ingredients is all well and good. Depending on RNG to reward you for your work is like hoping your employer will pay you for your week’s efforts on their behalf. That is not work, it’s gambling your time in hope of a reward.
RNG is not grind. RNG is not work. With no guarantee of success vs. effort, RNG is gambling. Nightfury is a gamble due to the (randomness and) rarity of one of it’s ingredients. You can put in enormous effort (time) in obtaining what you can, but unless your odds improve over time and effort spent to the point of a guaranteed drop on all of the ingredients, it’s still a gamble.
Profession armor, racially styled would be my preference. A Charr Warrior should not look like a Human Warrior etc. The armor would most likely meet all the same requirements we have now but be customized to reflect a profession’s style/theme and gain a restriction for that profession.
Dare I mention outfits as well? At least for crafting…it might be nice with options to automatically switch to our preferred outfit(s) when we activate a crafting table.
I’d be happy to show you where I hunt for copper in Queensdale (look me up if you wish). There are at least 2 rich copper nodes there with many other normal nodes. There should be a path worn on the ground from my many trips through the map.
Greetings
I loaded up one of the many generous boosts I have received in Black Lion Chests &
went-a-wandering looking for the elusive copper veinsI tried several of the 1-15 zones & found TONS of iron & silver but ZIPPO copper
Also had a look on YouTube for advice/locations & turned up copper-less as wellI understand they “reappear” every 23ish hours but I also thought I read something about nodes/veins being player specific
Perhaps copper “spawn” needs to be looked at?
Many thanks
Free-To-Play doesn’t cause toxicity. Toxic players (attitudes) cause toxicity.
Just like guns don’t kill people…people WITH guns kill people. Triggers don’t pull themselves. Well…unless we are talking about an engineer’s turrets, but that’s a whole other topic.
I just experienced this wind(y) instrument for myself on my warrior. Good thing I don’t use it that often. It feels rather embarrassing.
Those who blow it, know it. Those who hear it, fear it.
(edited by GamerOnline.3650)
I’m all for a meat dress outfit, if they also release the meat greatsword skin that’s already in game.
Now as for “reviling” dress for female charr, the fur already covers everything up, so charr are naturally censored.
Back to the outfits, if we had more outfit options, that would make the player base happier. Especially for RPing players who really like charr.
For me, the Greatsword would have to be a (very large dragon style) T-Bone, though I suppose gnawed meat could still be left on it to help give it shape.
A naturally sexy charr, I should think, would be well groomed with fur easily blowing in the breeze, not matted down armor fur (helmet hair etc). Scantily clad to show off said clean fur.
Why else do cats groom themselves so much?!? They KNOW they’re looking good!
I think re-using the Queen’s Pavilion would make a lot of sense. Get everyone fired up for battle. Hone those fighting skills! New enemies to train with from the far away lands of Dry Top and The Silverwastes!
As a conditions mesmer (specced for confusion), I take perverse pleasure/pride in watching my enemies melt their own faces from the inside out in PvE.
It could also be a case of giving the offender enough rope to hang themselves, so to speak.
In other words, give the offending person even more of a chance to show why the kick (and block/report) is justified.
It’s a good idea but runes and sigils also make an ok gold sink. Not sure if Anet wants to do this
Also would help the amour and weapons bought with badges of honor. Because once you cannot salvage or change them. Wich makes them a bit more expensive than I first thought.
A gold sink takes gold out of the game.
Buying a rune or sigil from the trading post simply puts the majority of the gold into someone else’s account. Buying the same from an npc would be a gold sink, but the majority I’ve seen are purchased with dungeon tokens, another form of earned currency.
I want my mini golden pig to do a happy dance when I loot coins, cry when I spend them and get larger and fatter depending on how much gold I have in my bank. Sadly, my piglet would most likely appear be a sickly shriveled up golden raisin.
(This would actually go with my mesmer’s classic hobo style.)
Perhaps make the Golden achievement the cap. The piglet could even glow/shine or sparkle with over 200 gold.
As for a completely new, never before seen pet: A fish out of water! It would flip-flop around and follow me wherever I go (blowing bubbles and making squishing noises) and actually swims, if a bit erratically, whenever I’m swimming.
Re Edit: Also another new mini pet I’d like to see. An honest to Dwayna mini parrot, not just a tropical bird. Or parrots in multiple color schemes. Make them a set! Have them say “piratey” things, or sing pirate song snippets in a parrot voice.
Re re Edit: @Blair — Chests that follow you around in a game would most likely be Mimics. These are classic dungeon monsters that look like chests which entice greedy adventurers close enough to be eaten or attacked. Would be funny if someone "F"ed your pet Mimic and had it freak out on them or chew on and spit out that person’s own mini pet. Asura could most likely create golem versions of Mimics. Perfect for the disposal of “defective” test subjects.

First person camera view. Hmm…
I hope they add in support for the Bobblehead Laboratories for those of us that own/use them. Make our first person view bobble when we move. Not recommended for those with motion sickness.
Add in some excessive (in-game) alcohol consumption for a more robust experience! Anyway, I’m looking forward to the camera changes regardless.
If a player enters WvW to attempt map completion, people attacking them will keep them from their goal and tend to provide a negative experience contrary to their intent and efforts.
A player entering WvW to join the fight is expecting to be attacked and to join in the fighting. For them, this will be a more positive experience (hopefully) more in line with their intent and efforts when entering the map.
Or a rock that rolls, with a smiley face.
Levitation could work too, short height with a small dust cloud as it follows.
I think the Golden Pig should do a happy dance when you loot coins (or claim them from the TP). Or make some sort of sign/sound of happiness.
I got my pig the moment it was set free on the market.
Personally speaking, in-game, lore based racism is OK. It’s part of the story. Charr vs. Humans, Asura (superior intellect) vs. everyone else, for example.
Racism based on real life reasons or the real world is NOT OK. Don’t pollute fantasy with reality. :p
With regard to spending money or not in the Gem Store or to purchase Bank Tabs: This is how Arena Net pays for the world servers and continued support. They provide a way to obtain bank tabs with in-game currency to gem conversion if you wish to pursue it, but don’t expect it to be convenient or cheap vs. time spent.
Perhaps you could get an in-game friend to buy you bank tab space as a gift, though I don’t recall if that’s gift-able. Personal trading is not in the game so you can’t trade anything for a “gift”, sadly.
You are given the bare minimum bank space to survive with your first character. More characters usually means you’ll need more space. More stuff to collect over time means more space will be needed. Extra armor sets at level 80 and extra weapons means more storage will be needed unless you plan to carry everything with you at all times. This also touches on extra character inventory slots (belongs to one character only and is lost if that character is deleted) and larger bags for your inventory but is a whole other matter.
Making your own private guilds for storage only works for non-account/non-soul-bound items. You can save extra stacks of resources and sell them when the price is high or buy them when it’s low as you see fit. You can save fresh, unbound items for later use. Store extra/salvaged runes and sigils for future use. Food and potions too.
Edit: With regard to what someone mentioned up above and subscription fees: Why not save 10 dollars (US) per month and buy gems (800 for $10) with it? You can use them for whatever you wish in the Gem Store or for Bank Space or extra Character Inventory Bag Slots (limit of 3 extra per character). $10 is about the cost of a good meal at Subwayâ„¢
