I just noticed the same problem with my minions. Can someone please confirm if this is a bug or a new “feature” of the patch? If it is a bug, how soon will it be fixed? Right now, this is making my minion master virtually unplayable!
I agree that it would be great if ANet made GW2 town clothes work more like GW1 costumes, where there’s an NPC that “stores” all the outfits you paid to unlock. Barring that, a pane on the Collection tab for town outfits would work too. Being able to wear them “over” your armor in combat if you want and having the toggles to choose when they display (in town, in combat, both) like the GW1 costumes would be ideal as well.
I can access the link in the OP and in the sticky, and I can get also to the site if I type the address in the address bar of my browser. However, I can’t find the site if I try to do a Google search. Weird . . .
Hi!! I’m considering creating a 7th character and trying to pick between a guardian and warrior since I don’t have either yet. Which one do you feel is better and why? I play PvE almost exclusively, sometimes solo and sometimes with family & friends. I tend to prefer ranged with my other characters, so I’d like this one to have decent ranged options as well as melee. Thanks in advance!
We had this problem too. Last night my husband, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and myself were exploring the Iron Marches (Yak’s Bend server), and we all were experiencing occasional lag and were even disconnected from the game client a couple of times. We also tried one of the dragon events the night before and experienced a crazy amount of lag, to the point where I couldn’t tell which if any of my attacks were actually going off. I have a fairly new gaming laptop and have not had these kinds of problems before last week’s update.
I just got the same thing—got 2 at the same time, bringing me to 6/5 achievements, but no reward. I can has my rewards plz?
I just got the same error. Still got my gems like the OP.
I don’t have any characters of high-enough level yet, so I don’t know personally what it’s like to try to earn a legendary. But of course I agree in principle. But from what I understand, the legendaries aren’t any more powerful than other items, they just have a unique appearance. So you don’t have to have one, and if you don’t want to grind to collect the materials for it, don’t do it.
Plus, I don’t know if your comparison is valid. Though as I mentioned I’m not speaking from personal experience, it doesn’t seem like you’re limited to only one type of activity to earn the materials for a legendary—you should be able to earn them whether you do PvE, WvW, FotM, etc. Whereas according to your original argument, we should only be allowed to earn ascended items (which do give a stat bonus, not just cosmetic like legendaries) through FotM.
You keep on arguing that earning ascended gear through laurels is going to be “easier” than through FotM. Yet you don’t know that, since you or anyone doesn’t know yet how much ascended items will cost in laurels. It could very well be that to earn one, you have to spend just as much time in-game doing your daily/monthly achievments as you would have to doing fractal runs. And since there is a limit on how many laurels you can earn in a day, while there isn’t a limit to how many fractals you can do in a day, it may actually take longer in real-time to earn an ascended item through laurels. I would respectfully suggest that you wait until we have more information on the costs before getting upset.
I’m looking forward to the laurels too. I usually try to do the dailies whenever I’m in-game (the monthlies need to be fixed to not force people into FotM or WvW), and I think it’s great that we’ll be able to use them to earn new stuff. I’m also excited for the different daily requirements throughout the week and the upcoming ability to pick which 4 out of 6 (or whatever the actual numbers turn out to be) activities you want to complete. I hope this gets applied to the monthlies as well, since that would fix my previously-mentioned issue with them.
We shall see how much of a bonus it is when the final cost of items is released.
It’s just another gated system that funnels players into the gem store.
How exactly is this going to funnel people to the cash shop? The laurels are an extra benny to earn doing what should be your normal activities (at least for the dailies), and I don’t see how anything in the cash shop, including more gems/gold, is going to improve your ability to earn them. I get tired of people trying to make everything into some conspiracy by ANet to force people to spend money.
I think that getting ascended items for laurels is not fair to ppl who spent a lot of time doing fractals of the mist up to now. I spent a lot of time on fractals (over 250+ fractals) to get some ascended items (and im still now somewhere on middle of my way) and now everybody can easily buy it just for doing daily and montly and this is not right. Lazy ppl who dont work for their ascended on fractals should not get this ascended items. You want ascended? Then go hard work to fractals like other ppl and not only do daily/monthly. If I remember good Anet said that ascended items are items between exotics and legendaries with corresponding difficulty of getting it and what we see now? Ascended items for daily/monthly. Are you normal Anet? What will be your next step? Legendaries for daily/monthly? Let ascended item only for those who did hard work on fractals and deserve it and not for all. Ppl doing daily/monthly dont deserve ascended items. I hope that at least ascended will need 3+ months of daily/monthly to buy it.
Why should those of us who aren’t interested in FotM be forced to do them to get the same level of gear? We’re not lazy, that’s just not what we want to do in-game. ANet has said that GW2 should be about “playing the game your way,” so limiting a tier of equipment to only one activity goes against that philosophy. You don’t know that it’s going to be “easy” to earn ascended items via laurels since we don’t know what the costs will be. And no one forced you to do 250+ fractals. You should have done them because you think they’re fun, and that should be a good part of the reward of doing them—or doing anything in this game.
Unless I can only be on for a very short amount of time on a particular day, I always try to complete my daily. As others have said, you can complete most of the requirements doing your normal activities—though I do sometimes have to seek out those last few kill varieties or DEs—and you get extra XP, money, karma, and maybe a BL freebie. What’s not to like?
I’d be all about a RL baby quaggan backpack! And a RL plushy griffon too!!
I get a dye every 1-2 days, I think.
@Wheezy: Colin Johansen mentioned that the laurels will be a currency that doesn’t take up inventory space, like karma and gems, and that they will be account-bound.
Even if it was a hack, why bother reporting it? It’s a cosmetic change that isn’t giving him an advantage or affecting anyone else. ANet has far more important things to deal with.
The announcement may cause some of the current server populations to get skewed, but I suspect that the situation will eventually balance out as new people join the game and go to the servers that have more room.
Lelani Firecaller (Human ele)—one of my GW1 characters: Lelani is made-up, Firecaller because she was a fire ele. She was my favorite character in GW1, so I had to re-create her in GW2.
Isabella Fuochi (Human mesmer)—one of my GW1 characters: Isabella because I liked the name, Fuochi (“fire” in Italian) because GW1 character was another fire ele and had red hair. Used it for my GW2 mesmer because I like the name and she also has red hair.
Aerndis Bjorndottir (Norn ranger)—one of my GW1 characters: she was a tall, blond warrior, so I gave her a Viking name (should have been Aerndis Bjornsdottir, but that was too many letters). Seemed natural to use this name for my GW2 Norn.
Fluffy Sniffynose (Charr eng)—I saw a video from Kotaku where he made a female Charr and kept exclaiming about her fluffy tail and sniffy nose. So I made a Charr character for the last BWE named Fluffy Sniffynose, and then my husband insisted that I use the name for real when GW2 came out. We now have the Clan Sniffynose guild because my husband, his brother, his sister, and his nephew also made Sniffynoses.
Belladonna Morte (Sylvari necro)—Belladonna for the poisonous flower, Morte because well, duh, death.
Tess Crankshaft (Asuran thief)—Tess is cute and fits the Asuran naming conventions, Crankshaft because she needed a surname (just Tess was taken) and that sounded appropriate for an Asuran.
We’ve noticed that a lot of people tend to switch servers over the weekend—jumping ship to whichever server is winning in WvWvW. We had friends who couldn’t join us on our server when they tried on a Thursday but were able to get in later in the day the next Friday due to the server-jumping. So if all else fails, see if your friends can tranfer over the weekend (as long as your server isn’t winning).
It’s not a bad idea. My husband has done something similar with some of his characters. The only issue may be is that as your crafting goes up in levels, you’ll need to go to higher-level areas to get the higher-level crafting mats.
I’m enjoying my alt-itis so far—I have 1 character of each race and each class except warrior and guardian so far. The alts give me a chance to explore different looks, play styles, personal story options, etc. Crafting is not as grindy since I’m making gear for several characters. And it gives me more choices about who I feel like playing each day . . .
OP, I’m really glad that you’re enjoying the game. I’ve played GW2 since the pre-launch, and I’m still loving it—the graphics, the variety, everything. Yes, there’s things that could be improved or fixed, but I think that ANet has been doing their best to fix issues while continuing to provide new content. My highest level character is “only” level 56, but that mostly due to my alt-itis.
I think a lot of the people who are so negative on these forums have missed the point of this game. They’ve been so busy rushing to max level, looking for rewards, and/or expecting what they’re used to from other MMOs that they miss out on what makes GW2 so awesome. If you take the time to explore, experience, and enjoy what this game has to offer, you’ll keep having fun.
Where are you getting the impression that the Feb update will be mostly for WvW? Colin Johanson’s post mentioned “new features that will be rolled out across PvE, WvW, and PvP in early 2013 . . .”
My husband and I played GW1 fairly regularly for the past ~3.5 years until GW2 came out. Since the GW2 pre-launch, I have not gone back to GW1 (though I may at some point just to get a few more HoM points); my husband occasionally goes back for holiday events or to get GoT. We’ve both been really happy with GW2 so far—amazing graphics, cooperative atmosphere, lots of gameplay options, etc. Either I haven’t run into the things people keep complaining about or I don’t have the same level of (somewhat unreasonable sometimes) expectations they have. It’s still a new game, and the devs are still working to improve the game all the time—look at what’s been released since the launch! I expect that in time, ANet will release many of the things folks have been looking for, such as guild halls, guesting, etc., and continue to work on the issues that are really bugging people.
As for the complaints about the cash store, I think people need to remember that there’s NOTHING in the gem store that’s necessary for game-play. It’s all either purely cosmetic (minis, dyes, costumes, etc.) or can also be found in-game (boosters, keys, etc.). If you don’t like something, think it’s too expensive, whatever, then you don’t have to buy it. I personally don’t like the RNG issue with the “mystery boxes,” so I don’t buy them—simple enough, no QQing necessary.
There is one situation in which your participation will decrease someone else’s reward: dynamic events. however, no one is going to complain if you help out, they will probably thank you immensely. a 2nd person means it’s completed twice as quick, and at worst they would get like 15% less reward. Basically, there are 3 tiers for rewards on dynamic events: gold, silver, bronze. which tier you get is determined by your participation. Say you’re defending an area. If someone is just standing there, they’ll probably get bronze. If they’re there the whole time and killing everything: gold. If they kill half and you kill half, you both might get silver. I’m not even close to 100% sure on this, only that that’s how it sounded when reading the wiki (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dynamic_event)
I don’t think this is correct. I’ve been in plenty of dynamic events with a large number of PCs contributing and still got gold. It’s all about how much you individually put in. If you only get a few hits in, you’ll get bronze; if you get a lot of hits in, you should get gold.
There’s a thread stickied at the top of this forum that also has a lot of useful advice:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OMG-If-you-only-knew-this-tips-for-new-players
In-game, your Map is very useful for figuring what to do—it will show you all the renown quests, points of interest, vistas, skill challenges in the area, as well as any dynamic events currently active.
And don’t be afraid to ask specific questions in this forum—someone will answer it eventually. We were all noobs once too!
Meow meow steampunk demon kitties with boomsticks meow!!
I really would like to create another Charr character in addition to my female engineer. But my problem is that most of the Charr armors are butt-ugly, and I’m having a hard enough time finding decent-looking armor for my one character. If ANet could come up with better-looking armor, ones that are designed for the Charr body intead of kitten stretched-out human armor, and maybe if they could make the female armors look at least a little different than the males, then I’d gladly make an army of Charr characters!
Can you give us more info, such as what type of tips you’d like to learn and what do you like to play (melee, ranged, PvE, PvP, etc.)?
We had a similar problem a couple weeks back when some friends got new accounts and tried to join our server (Yak’s Bend). There seems to be a higher rate of transfers on the weekends, particularly Fridays, as people try to transfer to a server that’s winning in WvWvW. If your server is not winning this week, then your daughter may have a better chance to join or transfer in this weekend. That’s what worked for our friends.
I’m pretty happy with the existing armors for the “humanoid” races, i.e. Human, Norn, and Sylvari. The light armors offer a mix of revealing and covering armors (I’m a female gamer, and I tend to prefer the more revealing armors myself ). The medium and heavy armors tend towards more concealing but still have many attractive options. My main complaints are regarding the armor for the Charr and Asura:
1. Why is the female armor exactly the same as the male armor? Yes, there isn’t much body shape difference between a male Charr/Asuran and female Charr/Asuran, but there should be differences in their aesthetics. After all, the differences between male and female Human fashion (in game or IRL) aren’t solely dictated by body shape.
2. Can we have some female Charr armor that isn’t butt-ugly? My female Charr engineer is currently wearing the Heritage armor skin because there aren’t any medium Charr armors that I like. And as much as I would like to create another Charr character, I can’t convince myself to yet because there are NO Charr armor looks that I find appealing in light, medium, or heavy.
There’s been a lot of protests about Tixx’s innocence and the slander to his good name. But what about our innocence and good names? I’m talking about all us loyal toys who follow our owners around peacefully and try to entertain everyone around us. I just want to spread some fluffy love and Wintersday cheer. But thanks to the violent actions of a minority of malfunctioning toys and the indiscriminately harsh words of those spreading these stories around, people are running away from me instead of smiling. We good toys should not be judged by the actions of a few rotten apples. Sniff . . . I just want a hug!
Sincerely,
Squee, a sad plushy griffin
Only people who missed doing any of the Infinarium events earlier this week will get the big reward—i.e. anyone doing that particular event for the first time. If you’ve already completed the event before, then repeating it will only get you the choice of Wintersday gifts.
This is obviously a frame job! Why aren’t the authorities investigating that traveling skritt mentioned in the LANN transcript??
Yes, thank you ANet for putting together a fun Wintersday event so far (I haven’t had a chance to try everything yet, but I hope to by this weekend)!
I doubt there will be a way to get enough cogs to make more than 2 minis—if you want the rest, you’ll have to go to the gem store. The additional frames are to make endless tonics for those people who either used their frames to make minis or who used their endless tonics in the Mystic Forge to try to get an Endless Toymaker Tonic.
I don’t know if this is something they planned to do from the beginning. If not, I think it’s great that they’ve responded so quickly to players’ requests to be able to make all the tonics. Now I can make a Endless Griffin Tonic to go with my plushy mini-pet!
Why are you sad now? You can get more frames at the Wintersday vendors. Just farm the crap out of the Mysterious Presents to get more ugly wool socks/hats/sweaters. It’s what I plan to do to make a Endless Griffin Tonic to go with my adorable griffin mini-pet!
The Blizzard plushy is not the same as the Tixx plush griffon toy. PLZ ANet, we can haz real plushy griffons? I too would happily give you moneyz for this!
Disclaimer: I am NOT unhappy with this Wintersday event. Overall I’ve been enjoying all the new content this week. That being said, there are some areas that could use some tweaking, and hopefully ANet will not mind the feedback.
1. Could we go back to the mini-pack that was offered during the Halloween event rather than having minis in the RNG boxes as in the Lost Shores and Wintersday events? I will glad plunk down the gems to pay for guaranteed content but am far less likely to do the same to play the lottery with the RNG boxes on the hope that I’ll get what I really want. As it is, since I don’t have a lot of money to spare right now (RL or in-game), the only way I’m going to get a Foostivoo is if I’m lucky with one of the giant gift boxes. Foo . . .
2. The toy mobs that spawn from opening the mysterious presents are a bit overpowered. My husband and I frequently have to run away to keep from being gakked, which we normally don’t need to do in monster fights. Either there should be less toys per mob, or the toys’ stats should be dialed down.
3. Since it’s too late to go down to only 1 type of ugly wool item, could we get a way to exchange them for the others, like being able to exchange socks for hats and hats for sweaters or vice versa? It’ll then be easier to get the higher-requirement items, and there’s less chance of leftover ugly wool items at the end of the event.
4. As much as I have been enjoying the daily events at the Infinarium, they are rather repetitious. It would be nice to have more unique tasks each day, or at least to have more of a mix-up of the repeated tasks, rather than having the “Paint the princess dolls” one EVERY day since the dolls came out.
Thank you for your time, ANet, and for giving us an overall enjoyable event!
I too have really been enjoying this event. I LOOOVE my plushy griffon!! Considering that I originally thought the only way to get the toy minis was through the gem shop, the fact that we can make 2 for free is great. And being able to make endless tonics out of the remaining mats is a bonus—though I do hope Anet addresses the RNG issues people have been having (I haven’t tried myself yet). The daily events have been pretty fun, and I’m looking forward to what happens in LA later today. And of course the decorations are awesome! I’m hoping this weekend to have time to try out the bell choir, JP, and snowball fight.
I saw him earlier this week on the Yak’s Bend server and LMAO, then had to show him to my husband. I <3 the Norn Boxing Day Rabbit!
To all the people complaining on other threads about Wintersday, I want to say, “Stop. Look into your griffon’s plushie eyes. Bask in its adorableness. Become one with its fluffiness. Then let your troubles drift away on little squeaking wings . . .”
I, meanwhile, spent Tuesday night running around Hoelbrak shouting “It’s so FLUFFY!!”
